Your options
Choosing what to study You have so many options for education and training after GCSEs that it can sometimes feel like an overwhelming decision. We want to help you choose the right next steps for you. When choosing what to study and where, it can be helpful to make a list of things which might influence your decision, and how important they are to you. Here are some things you may want to consider:
What will you enjoy learning?
The first thing to consider when choosing a course is always what you will enjoy learning. Even if you don’t know what you want to do in the future, you will find your course much more engaging and rewarding, and will do better, if you’re learning about a subject you’re passionate about!
What is your dream career?
If you’ve got a career path in mind, consider whether you need to study certain subjects to get there. You might need to study a science or Maths in order to go to university, for example, or complete a training course at college before you can progress into employment. If you’re not sure where you want your course to take you, our online Career Coach tool can help you learn more about yourself and what careers would suit you, find a career based on the course you’re interested in, build your CV and more.
How do you like to learn?
Everyone has a preferred learning style. If you’re academic and perform well in exams, studying A Levels could be the right choice for you. If you’re more of a hands-on person and prefer to learn by doing, you might prefer a vocational course or an apprenticeship to develop your skills in our specialist facilities.
Are you getting the best advice?
It can be helpful to get advice from friends, family and teachers when choosing your next steps. However, it’s important to stay focused on what you want and what’s right for you; don’t choose a course just because your friends are doing it, or because someone else wants you to.
What will you do when you finish this course?
Does the course you’re considering usually lead directly into employment, or are there further study and training opportunities available? Will you want to take those next steps? Consider the course as part of a longer-term plan and where it could lead. Find out more Visit our website to apply or find out more

Your options
Entry requirements and levels of learning When you join us, we want you to be placed on a course that’s the right level for you. Your GCSE results will indicate which course level you will begin at. Whatever level you start at, there are plenty of opportunities to learn and progress onto further study, an apprenticeship or employment. You can stay with us all the way up to degree level. If you achieve five GCSEs at grade 4-9, you are likely to join a Level 3 programme. There are some exceptions, for example, if you have not studied the subject before and need to develop new specialist skills, such as hairdressing or brickwork. If you do not gain five GCSEs at grade 4-9, you will simply start on a lower level course initially and then have the opportunity to progress to Level 3. We will discuss your options with you at your course information meeting, or when you visit us for an Open Event. Remember, all school leavers are guaranteed a place at the right level for them for September 2022 entry. Find out more Visit our website to apply or find out more

Attend an Open Event
Open Events are your opportunity to come into the College, meet staff and current students and see our facilities for yourself. You can get expert advice and information about all of our courses. We also have virtual tours of our Centres on our website, so it’s easy to take a look around.
Make your application
Once you’ve decided what to study, apply! You can change your mind throughout the application process and only make your final decision when it’s time to enrol. You can apply via the College website from the relevant course page, or phone us if you would rather use a paper application form.
Attend your course meeting
You will be invited to the College for a course meeting. This is an informal discussion about your choices, future plans and to ensure that the course is right for you. If your choice of study changes, you will be invited to another course meeting with the relevant department.
Guaranteed place
You will be offered a place on a course that is right for you, subject to meeting the entry requirements. Once you have your GCSE results you will be invited to enrol. Should your GCSE results not be what you hoped for, we will discuss your options and offer you a place on another appropriate course. Apply now Visit our website to start your application
