International Day for women and Girls in Science Science has been a major tool used in the fight against climate change. On this international day for women and girls in science, we highlight the work that the Network of African Women Environmentalists, a team of experts and scientists are doing towards restoring degraded land in Lake Victoria, Kisumu. In collaboration with multiple partners and engaging the communities around the lake region, they are employing their scientific research into protecting the rich resources in the lake as well safeguarding a lifeblood of the communities in this quickly changing environment.

Safeguarding Wildlife in Amboseli In Amboseli National Park poaching stops at the community level, thanks to the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s (IFAW) tenBoma project. The initiative is engaging the neighboring communities around the park to identify and stop potential threats that threaten their peaceful coexistence with wildlife . They have also trained community rangers who protect the wildlife population and the community at large.

Green enterprise fighting Deforestation Bamboo is considered the most strategic tool for afforestation and reforestation; the world agroforestry organization is championing for its adoption as it can serve as an alternative to cutting of indigenous trees that take long to grow. Waste Free Park Initiative
Restoring Degraded Land
Wetlands for Better Health
A partnership between Envirowild and Kenya wildlife service has been working towards promoting environmentally friendly parks, free of waste, habitable for plants and animals while at the same time encouraging a positive attitude towards conservation. The initiative started in October 2020 is designed to eliminate irresponsible waste disposal in parks.
Regreening Kenya has embarked on an ambitious journey to bring more than 150,000 ha of degraded land under restoration. The project uses community centered approaches that are integrated with soil and water conservation, reseeding with adaptable grass species and financial mechanisms targeting women and youth.
During the World Wetlands Day on 2nd February, the Ministry of Environment reaffirmed its commitment to protect and conserve wetlands by gazetting the Sabaki Estuary in Kilifi County. In addition, the ministry promised 100,000 mangroves in the estuary and the Mida Creek. Wetlands play a critical role in supporting the ecosystem.
