Eduardo Dolon: Deputy of Tourism EDUARDO DOLON, the former Mayor of Torrevieja has been appointed the Deputy of Tourism for Alicante. The president of the Delegation of Alicante, Cesar Sanchez, announced his first appointments through a decree that will form the government team to address the issues of the day and ensure the functioning of the provincial institution. Sanchez, will soon appoint other delegations, and administer a strategic plan to meet the needs of the province’s municipalities in the framework of the 2015-2019 legislature. The President also announced that Carlos Castillo Márquez as Spokesperson for the Grupo Popular in the areas of the President, Economy, International relations and Coordination of the Government. Adrián Ballester Espinosa is the deputy speaker. Eduardo Dolón Sánchez will oversee Municipalities and Tourism for province and Alejandro Morant Climent for Finance and Administration, which includes Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and General Secretariat. Finally, Congressman Jaime Lloret Lloret will control the areas of Emergencies, Architecture and General Services. The first appointments respond to government priorities and the needs of internal organization of the institution. Eduardo Dolon stressed his commitment to the provincial government team though his post overseeing municipalities in addition to addressing the important role with the Tourist Board, as we enter the full summer season. Castillo will manage the area of the Presidency encompassing the coordination of government departments. Alejandro Morant will direct the administrative machinery of government itself and Lloret takes over as head of security and emergency at a time of year when the risk of wildfire across the province is at its highest. During the week that Torrevieja takes it place on the World Stage and is broadcast throughout Spain on National TV thanks to the Habaneras Contest, Eduardo Dolon, announced that the Provincial Tourism Board will
strengthen support for the Habaneras in Torrevieja in the next edition, the 62nd that Torrevieja will stage. The vice president of the Provincial Council of Alicante and Deputy Tourism, has attended every evening of the 61st edition of the International Contest of Habanera and Polyphony of Torrevieja, which closed on Sunday night However, it seems that the ruling five party coalition in Torrevieja are not all happy with the appointment of Eduardo Dolon as Deputy of Costa Blanca Tourism. At the awards ceremony on Friday evening, Eduardo Dolon told the media that he was prevented from presenting a prize at the Habaneras Festival that the Diputación sponsors to the tune of 25,000€. Eduardo Dolon stated that the new Government had rejected the idea to invite Eduardo to give the award. Eduardo said: "this situation is a typical provocation to produce a conflict between the new Torrevieja government and the institution of Alicante, but with my new position as the Minister responsible for the Tourism in the Costa Blanca, I will continue to support the Habaneras Contest, with or without the help of the new government." He added; "You all know what my views are, but I don’t think that one can govern with hatred and rancour. I mean it. And it seems to me that someone did not want to recognise that the Costa Blanca Tourism Board is the one, which endowed the Habaneras Contest with 25,000€. I think it is a pretty serious mistake by the government team. I would put this down to the mayor, because he is the head of the Habaneras Board. The Mayor should understand that Eduardo Dolon, is not a person to represent the council but would have done so as the deputy provincial for Costa Blanca Tourism. With this attitude, you would think that the Torrevieja Government want to find a reason to stop the Costa Blanca Tourist Board supporting the event…” Eduardo Dolon added; “When we speak of international tourist interest you know that our contest is declared as such and therefore there is an amount of
Eduardo Dolon enjoying the last night of Habaneras
sponsorship money that is used for promotion.” He also noted; “that the agreement with the organiser of Habaneras Contest is that whomever subsidizes an awards, is that the award be named after the institution. However this did not happen last night.” About the Contest, the Deputy of the Costa Blanca Tourism Board stated that "this is the most important contest of choral music in the world," and he emphasized the high level and the quality of the invited choirs as well as the work done by the Habaneras, “especially the work of the technical commission and staff throughout the year that ensures that each and every aspects of the event promotes Habaneras around the World plus I do not want to forget the involvement and good work of staff, volunteers and support staff these days'.” Spain’s Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism José Manuel Soria noted during his last visit to Torrevieja that: “the Government of Spain treat the Tourist Municipality of Torrevieja, in a very favourable way. The Ministry will proceed to restart the paperwork to allow the city to receive financial compensation from the Government to improve the Tourism offerings in the city due to the large numbers of hundreds of thousands of people, many of them with second homes in the region, who make up Torrevieja’s ‘floating population’, through changes to the Local Finance Law.” Being Deputy of the Costa Blanca Tourism Board will see Eduardo Dolon travelling much of Europe and Spain promoting the region, and of course, when given the opportunity; Torrevieja. Eduardo Dolon takes over the post of Deputy Provincial Tourism Costa Blanca from his numbe two in Torrevieja and the former Deputy Mayor, Joaquín Albaladejo. Albaladejo noted that over the last four years the Costa Blanca Tourist Board attended 89 different exhibitions in Europe, Russia and for the first time, the USA. While Eduardo Dolon will not attend all of these in person, he will always be present at the larger and most important events to promote the region, especially in the UK, Ireland, Russia, Scandinavia and many cities throughout Spain.
