Sean Connery’s Bond with Andalucia Part II By Bob Yareham Although the Mediterranean Sea tends to stand between them, there is no reason why Spain can’t be passed off as Morocco, or even the good old US of A, as is the case in The Wind and the Lion (1975), made wholly in Spain. Even the sacred White House is none other than the elegant games room of the Hotel Palace in Madrid, built in 1912 by order of King Alfonso XIII and situated just across the road from the Spanish Parliament. Furthermore, Yellowstone Park, where President Theodore Roosevelt shoots a Grizzly Bear (not Yogi, fear not!) and later has it stuffed and displayed in the White House, is in reality Boca del Asno in Segovia province, only a 10-minute drive from the royal palace La Granja de San Ildefonso, another location of many famous films. The term ‘Teddy Bear’ is in fact attributed to ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt, who apparently ‘spared’ a baby bear once after executing its mother. Gerald Ford was a slightly less manly President than Roosevelt, who, at a private showing of the film with director John Milius, was pleased to recognise what he thought was the authenticYellowstone Park, where he used to hunt. The film shows us a macho US President, who boxes and practises on the rifle range or shoots the breeze with his bow and arrow instead of merely squashing flies like his modern counterpart, although the shooting was

shot on an estate near Aranjuez and the boxing, rowing and archery took place in El Retiro, one of Madrid’s most important parks. Moreover, the scene where Roosevelt campaigns from the back platform of a train, as politicians used to do before TV took over, was filmed in Las Delicias Railway Museum, previously a railway station, which is also situated in the Spanish capital. For the rest of the film, the Moroccan parts were filmed using scenery and cities from Andalusia. El Raisuli (Connery) has his headquarters in the austere Moorish castle at Calahorra in Granada province, while his enemy the Sultan holes up in the Reales Alcazázares Palace in Sevilla amidst the splendour of an Arabic architecture that rivals the better known La Alhambra of Granada. The polo match too

was played in one of its courtyards. Various deserted Almeria beaches are used, such as Monsul, Genoveses and the massive Matalascañas, as well as the dunes of Cabo de Gata, where the battle sequences take place at the 18th century Castillo of San Felipe, built by King Carlos III at the fossil beach at Punta del Esparto

near Los Escullos. The wildlife park of La Doñana, a 543 km² area of marsh, shallow streams, and sand dunes bordering Sevilla and Huelva provinces, was also employed, and Huelva also provided locations at the town cemetery and the old jail house. The battle between the Gung Ho American forces and the Sultan’s unprepared bodyguards is enacted in front of the façade of the old ‘Museo de las Artes y Costumbres Populares’ in Plaza de las Americas in Sevilla, built by Anibal Gonzalez for the Latin American Exhibition of 1929 as the Pavilion of Industrial Arts in the Mudejar style, with a dazzling display of tiles and bricks, arches and balconies. The film itself borders on the ridiculous, with Connery’s men starting off as the

baddies, massacring Candice Bergen’s staff in an orgy of destruction worthy of the worst efforts of British football hooligans, except that they managed all of it on horseback. They even murder a poor, native servant who valiantly attempts to serve the wine despite an annoying dagger sticking out of his back. Ok, so they had to ride a long way uphill to Candice Bergen’s house admittedly, so they were probably peeved; but no more so than the citizens of Almeria’s Al Medina district, up through which they fearlessly rode. Later however, the baddies become the goodies, albeit bloodthirsty ones, obsessed with their long curving blades, which are no doubt symbolic of something or other. Twenty US Marines were used in the making of this

picture, as were a number of Special Forces troops from the Spanish army. The military scenes are in fact still apparently used as training films for the US Marine Corps. As well as playing themselves as marines, the American soldiers weren’t too proud to also play the slaves pulling the Sultan’s lavish carriage in another scene, and they can clearly be seen chewing gum if you look closely enough. The Marine assault on Tangier was filmed over the course of several weeks. The scenes, where the ‘American’ soldiers run in formation towards the Bashaw’s Palace, scattering frightened locals, were filmed in Almeria and Sevilla. Almeria also provided the American Embassy,

which was in fact the city’s Casino. The final showdown, a curious battle between Connery’s Berbers allied with the Americans who had engineered a coup d’etat in Morocco, fighting against a German army, whose presence is never really explained, but who are clearly the genuine baddies, in liege with the Sultan’s remaining un-massacred men, took place at the ‘Aqaba’ set, which had been constructed years ago for the film Lawrence of Arabia at Algorocibo beach in Almeria. This same year that he made this film, Sean Connery got married in Gibraltar, the place he has chosen twice for his nuptials, so far.

Human-oriented Technology Greatly Enhances Life and Happiness CES is a gathering for the Chinese internet industry and a revelry of science and technology media. Nowadays, we can see names of Chinese brands, like Huawei, Mi, TCL, Letv and more all over the overseas professional technological websites, such as CNET and at CES. UK airport is named the world's most punctual Birmingham has been declared the most punctual airport in the world in the latest Punctuality League from OAG. Analysis of arrival and departure times last year found over 91% flights were on time from the Midlands airport. More than 100,000 scheduled flights passed through Birmingham last year and the most punctual routes were to Dublin, Alicante, Belfast, Dusseldorf and Glasgow, all of which achieved an on-time rate of over 93%. Thousands hit by All Leisure collapse Thousands of holidaymakers have been affected by the collapse of All Leisure Holidays, run by industry stalwart Roger Allard. All Leisure, which operated Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery, was placed in administration on Wednesday, with 13,000 passengers booked on future departures and around 400 abroad. Allard had already orchestrated a deal to sell the company's third cruise line, Hebridean Island Cruises, to a group of investors late last year. He remains chairman. He has expressed sadness at the demise of the rest of the company and blamed a 'geopolitical storm'. ABTA confirmed that all future Swan Hellenic and Voyages of Discovery cruises have been cancelled. Both brands had earlier announced they were cancelling this week's departures for 'operational reasons'. Approximately a third of the future bookings are ex-UK departures, which are

financially protected by ABTA. The remainder are protected under the company's ATOL. The CAA has posted details on its website for customers claiming refunds. It said All Leisure currently has 400 customers abroad, although due to this week's cruise cancellations, none are currently on ships. Arrangements are being made to repatriate all customers, said the CAA. Andy Cohen, head of ATOL at the CAA, said: "We understand this will be concerning news for anyone who has booked to travel with the company. However, the ATOL scheme exists for exactly this kind of situation and we are making immediate arrangements so all ATOL protected customers can claim full refunds as quickly as possible. "We are also arranging for people currently overseas to get back home to the UK at no extra cost - meaning no-one will be left stranded abroad. "So while this situation is very disappointing for the customers affected, it is also a timely reminder of the importance of remembering to check for

ATOL protection when booking holidays." The CAA has also set up a dedicated helpline for affected customers from the UK on 0808 164 8810 Another member of the All Leisure Holidays Group, Page and Moy Travel Group Holidays, which operated the singles brand Just You and soft adventure firm Travelsphere, has been bought by G Adventures. "Therefore holidays will continue to go ahead and are ATOL protected by G Adventures (UK) Ltd. Customers with queries about their bookings should contact G Adventures (UK) Ltd for more information," it said. A spokesman for Travelsphere and Just You said existing staff will continue to work for both brands. "Both Travelsphere and Just You will remain to be based in their head office in Market Harborough and the brand names will remain," he said. "The announcement of the sale was made to staff on Tuesday. All tours are planned to go ahead and our customers." Travel agents expressed sadness at the collapse of All Leisure, which one described on the Facebook site Travel Gossip as having 'a great team', while others said they were relieved that Just You and Travelsphere bookings would still go ahead.

devices, the app could lead to more claims to airlines for compensation for delays. According to Allay, the claims management company behind the app, passengers only need their booking reference or flight number to launch a claim, or they can check if their flight is eligible just by using a departure date and destination airport. Steven Bell, managing director of airFair, said: "A lot of people do not realise that they are entitled to claim compensation for delayed flights and therefore miss out on money that they are entitled to. "But claiming compensation through the airline can be timeconsuming, so we are trying to make it an easy, hassle-free process. With airFair, by the time you board your delayed flight you will have been able to start your claim for compensation on the app. "This is a first of its kind for the UK but we're already working on version 2, which will be even easier for consumers to claim what they are owed." Towards A Positive 2017

How often have you said “Happy New Year”? Was 2016 any better for you than 2015 or 2014? Will 2017 be any different either? If you do the same things in 2017 as you did in 2016, your circumstances cannot change. Do you ever feel that your life is going in circles, doing the same things, going to the same places and seeing the same people? We can’t control wars and terrorist attacks but there are many things we can control. If you want your life to change and improve this year read on. If not, then continue as normal. I am not talking about a quick fixes, I’m talking about positive longterm change by developing good habits and eliminating bad habits. People are complex. We learn, reason and reach conclusions. Then we either change or continue as we were. We need to realize that we all have needs, physical, emotional and spiritual. Change is possible if we really want it and are prepared to develop some good habits and eliminate bad habits to achieve what we want. If we do something continuously for one month it becomes a habit. So would you like to re-design yourself this year? Maybe change your body, be healthier, more attractive, richer, and have better relationships with family and friends?

Imagine you wanted to build a house, you wouldn’t immediately go to the builder’s providers and order tons of material, no, you would draw up plans first, you would design the house you want to have. You might get professional help. You’d first decide on the number and sizes of rooms and make up a comprehensive plan of what you want. You would be unwise to ignore things like the foundations, roof, windows and doors. All the individual aspects of a house are important and affect the other parts. The different aspects that make you up are important too. Failure happens when you ignore any element that makes you up – physical, intellectual, emotional, educational, spiritual, financial and your relationships. Start by making a written list of what is important to you under each of the above headings. Imagine your list is 20 items long. Identify one or more positive things you could do for each item that may improve that item. Decide to make a habit of the activity you’ve decided upon, and then do it. For example, your relationship with your brother in Australia has

deteriorated to a card each Christmas. You identify that this relationship is important to you and you want to improve it. Your decision is to make a habit of talking to your brother every weekend on Skype or whatsapp (which costs nothing). By this time next year your relationship with your brother will probably be rich and fulfilling. Some habits you form could have many benefits, stopping smoking for example will improve your health, energy and stamina but it will also improve your financial situation. By this time next year you’ll be on average 2,000€ richer, you’ll be able to climb stairs without being out-of-breath and you are more likely to live longer pain-free. 31 years Without Phil Lynott

On January 4, 1986, I was working away on the Sun Line's Stella Solaris Cruise Ship as their resident Disc Jockey. On Saturday the 4th, the cruise line began the 1986 season with the Amazon River / Halley's Comet. That day, my girlfriend Tara and I went ashore to enjoy the sights and smells of Manaus, Brazil, at the mouth of the Amazon. On a small Black and White TV in a shop window, the Brazilian News was on and I saw a photo of Phil Lynott with dates under his name announcing his death. About 1974, I managed to sneak n the back door of the Queen's Court Hotel in Bangor Co.

Down to see Thin Lizzy perform, as I knew friends of Gary Moore, who had just rejoined the band. It was a pleasure to meet Phil and Gary after the gig and I'd occasionally bump into him in Dublin.

Thirty-One years ago Thin Lizzy‘s hard-living frontman and bassist Phil Lynott died at the tender age of just 36 from heart failure and pneumonia, having been admitted to Salibury Hospital in Wiltshire, England, on Christmas Day after “a drink and drug binge” at his home. Thin Lizzy found initial fame in the U.K. with a raucous early-’70s version of the traditional Irish folk song “Whisky in the Jar.” A few years later, Lynott and Company broke in America with their one and only major US No. 12 hit “The Boys Are Back in Town.” Lynott was born to a Brazilian father and an Irish mother in 1949 and had been in a series of regional bands including Skid Row and Orphanage. Lizzy began in 1970 with Eric Bell on guitar and Brian Downey on drums. Guitarists Brian Robertson and Gorham arrived a couple of years later. He also collaborated with Lizzy’s Gary Moore on 1979’s Parisienne Walkways and 1985’s Out in the Fields. But Lynott seemed to be

slowly slipping into obscurity as that fateful Christmas Day approached in 1985.

The accomplishments of Jimi Hendrix as a black musician were a huge inspiration to Lynott, who was half black himself. He remembered Jimi on the 10th anniversary of his death in 1980 with ‘Song For Jimi,’ a relative rarity featuring former Lizzy bandmates Eric Bell and Brian Downey. At the time of his death, it

was rumoured that Lynott was in line to potentially portray Hendrix in a planned biopic. Pre-Thin Lizzy, Lynott was in a ‘60s band called Skid Row with future Lizzy bandmate Gary Moore.

Necessary removal of his tonsils left Lynott without a gig when the band sacked him for his absence. His tonsils were actually causing him to sing offkey. It worked out just fine for Phil though, because a few years later, he found himself a part of Thin Lizzy, the new band that would be the ultimate vehicle for his future success. The Success of ‘Whiskey In The Jar’ Was a Bit of a Fluke: The song was originally set to be nothing more than a B-side, it was the record label’s idea to make it a single. The Lizzy guys were completely against the idea, feeling that ‘Whiskey’ wasn’t representative of their true sound as a band. The label’s choice ended up being a good idea, commercially at least. On the list of awkward ways to close an interview, one that statistically produces an unpredictable result is any variation of “So, what else do you have to say to the fans?” Lynott had a great answer waiting on day, as he replied “Look, I hate those guys in interviews that say 'Come and see the band, and buy all the records.' They always sound so insincere. So I'd like to say, really sincerely, Come and see the band and buy all the records.”

Jack White wrote: about the Official Top 40 biggest selling vinyl albums and singles of 2016, noting that David Bowie was the leading force within 2016's continuation of the vinyl revival sweeping the nation. David's final studio album Blackstar was the best selling LP on black plastic over the last 12 months, shifting 54,000 units since it was released in January 2016. Two days after the album was made available, David unexpectedly died from cancer, leading to a significant period of national mourning for one of the UK's most iconic musicians. In addition to Blackstar, a further four of David's classic releases feature in the Official Top 40 biggest sellers of 2016: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (13), Hunky Dory (16), Nothing Has Changed - The Very Best Of (17), and Changesonebowie (28). More than three million LPs were sold in 2016, the first time that threshold has been passed for 25 years, a report from the British Phonographic Industry (the BPI) revealed today. Song Facts: Careless Whisper By Keith Nicol After the sad and untmely passing of George Michael at the tender age of 53 on Christmas Day, his music has become a feature of the album, singles and download chart in the New Year, with vinyl to follow. Sales and streaming figures for George‘s most popular tracks have surged by 5625% since his death, according to the Official Charts Company. His greatest hits album, Ladies & Gentlemen, re-entered the top 10 for the first time in 17 years, and a number of his singles have raced up the chart. Wham!’s festive classic Last Christmas climbed to number seven, marking the song’s return to the top 10 the first time in 31 years. In a moving statement, Michael’s former longterm partner, Kenny Goss, said that he wanted fans and the public to remember the singer as he was. “The beautiful memories and music he brought to the world will always be an important part of my life and those who also loved and admired him,” he said.

In the UK a number of George’s best-known albums have also returned to the rundown – his last album with Wham!, The Final, is at 40 and 2006’s Twenty Five is at 47. Faith from 1987, 2014’s Symphonica and 1996’s Older are all back in the Official Albums Chart Top 100. The singles chart is also full of his songs, with Careless Whisper landing at 44, Faith at 64 and his Elton John duet Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me at 91.. With the chart announced on Friday night just as went to Press, his chart positions will be even greater this week. The music of the late iconic pop star George Michael has also climbed the Billboard charts in the USA following the singer’s untimely death on Christmas day. According to Nielsen Music, George Michael’s albums and individual tracks, including those with his band Wham!, have seen a surge in sales of 2,678 percent. Indeed, Michael (and Wham!) earned 103,000 equivalent album units (a combination of streams and downloads), with three of the singer’s solo albums and Wham!’s Make It Big landing in the Billboard 200 album chart. The highest charting record is George Michael’s greatest hits Twenty Five, which entered the chart at number 12 , a new high for the collection. Elsewhere, Faith, the singer’s solo debut, lands at number 18, with his 1998 greatest hits compilation, Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael, entering at number 84. In terms of individual songs, Michael’s “Careless Whisper” was the highest charting song, entering the Billboard Hot 100 at number 33. The track was also the singer’s best selling song of the week, shifting 53,000 downloads (up an apparent 3,423 percent).

Careless Whisper Contrary to popular belief, this song was not based on an actual event in George Michael's high school dating life, but rather he thought the whole thing up while boarding a bus. It was a fictitious story, but the tune was great and the song was a hit. Michael was just 17 when he wrote this song. He was taking the bus to his job as an usher at a cinema when the inspiration struck - that's where the reference to "The silver screen" comes from in the first verse. With lines like "Guilty feet have got no rhythm," the song demonstrated his innate talent for the mature songwriting he demonstrated as a solo artist. George Michael claimed that he got more compliments on his writing of the sax solo at the beginning of the song than on anything else he had ever written. The saxophone part was played by Steve Gregory, a session player based in London. As verified by Chris Porter, who was the engineer on the session, 10 different sax players tried to do the solo before Gregory came up with the sound Michael was looking for. One of the challenges was getting so many notes in one breath. This was accomplished when Porter slowed down the tape when he recorded Gregory's solo. When he played the tape back at normal speed, Michael approved it. The result is one of the most famous sax solos in popular music. Most Wham! songs were written solo by George Michael, but this one was also credited to Andrew

Ridgeley, the other half of Wham!. The song was released on the duo's second album, Make It Big, but was also released as a George Michael solo single - credited in the US to "Wham featuring George Michael." "Careless Whisper" was a massive hit, establishing Michael as a solo star but also providing a nice payday for Ridgeley, who got half of the songwriting credit. A few different versions of this song were recorded. The first version was recorded for the Wham! album, but George Michael also recorded it separately for single release. Before going on tour with Wham! to support the album, Michael flew to Alabama with producer Jerry Wexler, where they recorded the song at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios - the same place Wexler sent many Atlantic Records artists to record in the '60s and '70s. Michael then recorded the song in a more familiar location: Sarm Studios in West London. This was the version that was released as a single. According to 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Michael said, "I wasn't secure enough to write something that would expose my feelings, so it's very clichéd in a lot of its terms." He also has complained, "It disappoints me that you can write a lyric very flippantly and it can mean so much to so many people." This was Epic Records first million-selling single and it was George Michael's biggest-selling single in the UK, either as a solo artist or with Wham!, selling 1,365,995 copies. In America, "Careless Whisper" was certified platinum, meaning it sold over 2 million copies. In the UK, this won the Ivor Novello award for being the Most Performed Work in 1984. It would later reach #1 in more than 25 countries and sell in excess of six million copies worldwide. In an interview with the Christmas 2009 issue of The Big Issue, Michael said of this song, "I'm still a bit puzzled why it's made such an impression on people... Is it because so many people have cheated on their partners? Is that why they connect with it? I have no idea, but it's ironic that this song which has come to define me in some way - should have been written right at the beginning of my career when I was still so young. I was only 17 and didn't really know much about anything - and certainly nothing much about relationships." In the notes for the single, George Michael dedicated this song to his parents, saying it was "five minutes in return for 21 years."

18 Starting tonight at 7:00pm (8:00pm Spanish Time) on Saturday 7 January on BBC One, Let It Shine will search for five talented boys to form a band and perform the songs of Take That, in a brand new show touring the UK from late 2017. The judges are looking for a band that exudes the charisma, showmanship and stage presence that Take That became so famous for. The show will feature judges Gary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp and guest judge Amber Riley, and presenters Graham Norton and Mel Giedroyc. Let It Shine will welcome guest judges in each of the three stages of the competition. Musical theatre star Amber Riley, joins the first audition stage (episodes one-four), superstar Lulu joins the second stage.

Let It Shine

Announcements about the live shows in February will be made in due course. The Auditions: The Starway In episodes one to four we meet the contestants for the very first time. Each 'auditionee' sings for the live studio audience and judges Gary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp and guest judge Amber Riley. After their

performances, the judges independently award up to five stars each, without knowing how many stars their fellow judges have given. For the contestants this means they could score anything from a minimum of four stars up to a maximum of 20 stars. The key number is 15: the performers must score 15 in order to make it through to the next stage of the competition. A 'starway' of 20 stars trails from the judges’

desk to the stage where the contestant stands on the 15th star. One by one, the stars light up moving towards the contestant. If the 15th star (the one they are standing on) lights up then they are successfully through to the next stage of the competition. But if the shining stars fall short of the 15th star, then the singer’s journey will be over. The Group Stage: The Collaborations In episode five, the boys who have been successful in the audition stages will take part in a showcase of vocals, dance skills and harmonies that set the scene for what’s to come in the live shows. By the end of this episode the judges will form five boy bands. But before that happens, the boys will

be put into groups of eight and must perform together, to prove they can collaborate with each other and with famous pop stars. Beverley Knight, Kaiser Chiefs, Melanie C, Busted and Olly Murs join as special guests, with each taking a group of boys under their wing for a performance of a medley of hits. Will the boys freeze in the bright lights or seize their moment to shine? After each performance the groups line up on stars and the judges decide which five of the eight have the right blend of talent, charisma and passion to create the best band. Those five names are revealed, with stars trailing from the judges’ desk and lighting up one by one. If the star that a performer is standing on lights up, they are in the band; sadly if their star doesn’t light up, their time on the show is over. The Live Shows: The Battle Of The Bands Twenty five boys will make it to episode six, the first of three live shows. For the first time, they will compete for viewers' votes. Each band has a name, a sound, a look and style of their own - they are now performing as boybands and the judges expect to see polished performances at a professional level. The winning five boys will go on to star in ‘The Band’, a brand new exciting stage musical, featuring the music of Take That. More details regarding the format of the live shows will be revealed in due course.

When members from Torrevieja based "Phoenix Solos Club" were enjoying this years Christmas Day Lunch at a 4* Benidorm Hotel one of their members was thinking of those less fortunate and had an idea to do something for them.

Maureen Bradford 81 from villa-martin offered a kiss to the men and a cuddle to the ladies in exchange for a donation of any amount to "Reach Out" the clubs supported charity in 2016. Maureen said" I just looked at all the food we were eating and thought of all those poor people that don't have anything and the idea just popped into my head" Maureen can be seen in the photograph with some of the members of the club who enjoyed their Christmas encounter with Maureen and helped her raise the 100€ which will be handed over to The Reach out charity when they open in the new year. TAABS Torrevieja Amateur Association of Balladeer Singers was formed some 15 years ago, under the musical Direction of some wonderful people, with the purpose of helping to raise money for any charity. In 2009 TAABS received the accolade of ‘The CoastRider Pride of Spain’ Fund Raiser of the year. Christmas is a time of giving and the time of year when many families decide to adopt a new pet, be it a rescue cat or dog, or a smaller creature from the Pet Shop.

Many animal lovers who experience the joy of sharing their lives with a four-legged friend are spurred on to cement their success with a new addition to the household. Dog lovers often decide to take in another hound as a pal for their prized pooch while soft-hearted cat owners think that they can overcome the traditional battle of the species to introduce a canine companion. But whether it's a cat or a dog, there are a number of basic rules to be observed when introducing another animal into a house that is already home to a treasured pet. Dog behaviourist Mike Mullan advises owners to follow a number of simple steps when bringing home another animal to ensure your household is a haven of peace and harmony as opposed to a fur-flying war zone. Bringing a dog into a home where one is already resident is a very delicate situation as the original

incumbent views it as his or her territory. Mike warns: "There's a good chance that it will attack the other dog, even if it's of the opposite sex. "The best thing to do is, with another person, walk the two dogs together with the two people between them. Then change it round so one dog is on the inside, then again so that both dogs are on the inside. The dogs must be on the lead but should be able to get near each other. EU Opens Up Floodgates For Mortgage Repayments From Spanish Banks By Andreu & Alenda Abogados- legalservice@andreualenda.com

A Ruling from the EU this week has overturned a previous ruling from the Spanish Supreme Court, which initially protected Spanish Banks from certain mortgage repayments. The ruling means that Spanish banks may have to repay Billions of Euros to Mortgage Customers, The banks involved include Banco Popular Espanol SA and BBVA (Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA) after a final ruling by the European Union’s top court. In essence, borrowers who paid too much interest on home loans pre-dating a May 2013 Spanish ruling on so-called “clausulas suelo” or 'mortgage floors' are now entitled to a refund from their banks, proclaimed judges at the EU Court of Justice in Luxembourg on Wednesday. The “clausulas suelo” or 'mortgage floors' were interest clauses, that were included in most variable home mortgages, This clause set a minimum interest rate that the client should pay, regardless of what the Euribor was valued at. Thus variable interest was calculated with the Banks adding a rate to the Euribor (the main benchmark for most mortgages in Spain), and this limitation prevented those affected from benefiting from the Euribo’s fall in value and thus a fall in their mortgage repayment rate. The EU Court of Justice said that a proposed time limit on the refunds is illegal and the Spanish Supreme Court ruing is now null and void and customers shouldn’t be bound by such unfair terms. In May 2013, the Spanish Supreme Court considered these clauses abusive, on the understanding that consumers had not been informed of the economic and legal burden imposed on them. This ruling limited the

maximum retroactivity so that its nullity only had future effects, so consumers would not be repaid what was previously paid due to this clause up to that date. This term of limitation has now been overturned. Since that judgment from the Spanish Supreme Court, clents started asking the banks to reimburse them the sums paid for the excess interest resulting from the application of the floor clauses after May 9, 2013. An appeal was filed before the Court of Justice of the European Union to rule on whether or not such a limitation of compensation infringes European consumer protection rules. The Court of Justice interprets EU law to make sure it is applied in the same way in all EU countries, and settles legal disputes between national governments and EU institutions. There was a preliminary ruling giving reason to the financial entities, and this discourage all consumers as judgements usually respect this preliminary reasoning although it is not binding. The Court of Justice of the European Union has ruled on Wednesday, that financial institutions should now reimburse any consumers affected by the clauses with the full amount that has been overcharged since the beginning of each mortgage contract, and not only from May 9, 2013, as determined by the Supreme Court. From when can the sentence be applied? It has immediate effect. Who can claim against the bank? Any client who has not yet claimed, either before their financial institution or before the

courts, may demand the refund of the amounts even if your mortgage has already being paid, as long as it was not more than four years ago. Will the banks refund me if I do not make a claim? No, the banks will only refund you if a petition is filed. They will study petitions, case by case, to verify whether the client has accepted the formal conditions of the mortgage and the good faith rules haven’t been broken. They will try to avoid payments. These petitions can be filed before your financial entity or in court. Is the refunded amount subject to taxes? Part of what the bank returns to those who overpaid for “ land clauses” as a result of the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) should go directly to the Inland Revenue. This point affects those who have a habitual residence acquired before 2013 and, therefore, deduct the principal sum and interest of the mortgage destined to pay it, in their yearly tax forms. Upon receipt of the refund, it will be found that in the corresponding years they benefited from a deduction higher than that which they were entitled to. We recommend you to contact your tax adviser to deal with this matter as all the previous tax forms from the last four years, will need to be modified. Spanish traffic laws would help in preventing being involved in an unnecessary accident. For residents a change in the 2014 traffic law means you cannot own a foreign registered vehicle. With Brexit looming this might be a problem if you still have a foreign registered (classic) vehicle. Following the closing of the centre of Madrid to vehicles and reducing the max speed to 70kph a new rule prohibits vehicles over 3,500 kilos access to various districts of Madrid. For too long, excessive sized lorries been given free access to everywhere. Other Spanish cities are following Madrid's example, so watch this space.

Wow! Did you remember to put your wellies inside the car at the last drop of rain? Just going around the back of my house the water nearly came up to the top of my wellies. This happened in 30 minutes when the Seguro river burst. I saw on Spansh Television a driver who was caught in a sudden flash flood. Realising that he could be trapped inside the car he managed to open the door. Hanging on to the car with the water up to his knees he tried to get around the car to safety. Suddenly he lost his footing and was swept away. The problem when it rains in Spain it is the speed that the water rises that catch everyone out. This is because the soil has become compacted with the hot sun that stops the rain penetrating and with the vacas (lazy) farmers who leave rubbish and canes accumulating giving the perfect means to create dams and flooding. In three days of rain there was 400l/m2 in Benearres, 137.8l/m2 in Orihuela and 122.4l/m2 in Rojales. There was caos in Orihuela with the barrios of Las Norias, Mariano Cases and Molino being cut off. Almoradi, Benejuzar, San Javier and Alcazares were devastated. You should make a note on your frigde of the safe areas around your neighbourhood. Remember that if you have left your car in an underground car park, do not try to get your car out because you could get trapped and drowned or suffocated by the silt – flood water is not clean – leave it to your insurance company. Seeing the cars being winched out of garages and car parks there was mud inside to the windows. The speed the water rises from the first drop of rain to a metre of water can be less than 30 minutes. my conclusion. This year 117 people have died on the Alicante and Valencia roads. 21 more than this time last year. It is the biggest increase for two decades. This year Valencia Provence has the worst traffic results in Spain. In 2005 there were 358 killed on the roads which shows what can happen if this trend is allowed to continue. This upward trend is being addressed with testing on secondary roads for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Incoming race riders Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro confirmed KTM's suspicion that its maiden MotoGP bike needed to be better in changes of direction. Smith and Espargaro join MotoGP's newest manufacturer in 2017 from Tech3 Yamaha, after KTM spent this year testing and developing its RC16 prototype. Mika Kallio led that programme over the course of 35 days, and then raced as a wildcard in the Valencia 2016 season finale, before Smith and Espargaro rode the bike for the first time in the post-race test. One week later in November, Smith tested again at Jerez alongside Kallio, and Espargaro's crew chief Paul Trevathan says the experience of the race riders matched KTM's own assessments. He said he thinks we have shown now that we have a certain pace In his opinion we have a very balanced package with the RC16 and a good thing is that all three riders we have are pinpointing the same thing that we're missing. CD Montesinos Look Forward To 2017. Our next Friendly match will be at HOME on Sunday 8th January 2017 at 16.30 (that.4.30 pm in English). Our visitors will be Elche Sporting who like Montesinos play in Second Regional in Group 15. League Matches: To confirm: we will play Caliche on Wednesday, 11th January, at 21.15. This match is away. The next League match is on the 15th not the 5th against Benijofar time to be advised. The work continues at the Campo municipal in Los Montesinos, otherwise known as “The Cauldron”. The town council recently announced that work was due to start updating the facilities at the football ground including both changing rooms, the pic-nick area just to the right as you enter the ground, the toilet block, create wheel chair access to all areas of the ground (including the stand area) and put a new roof on one of the storage rooms (which has been without a roof and therefore un-useable for years). But what will get most of us supporters excited in the building of a complete new stand at the ground. The new stand will be sited behind the dug outs and will have four tiers of seating. An area 40 meters wide has been cleared in that space and is in the process of being adapted to fit the stand. Work is expected to continue for some time to get everything in place but improvements are being made at long last to our ground.

Jorge is only 19 years old with great potential and he stands out wth his strong aerial game, good use of the ball and his desire to continue learning and growing. The management team continues to work to strengthen the team especially in attack, where we want to sign at least one more player.
