Manchester City walk it against the Mentals Monte Mentals, those walking footballers from Los Montesinos, played an entertaining two days of football against a visiting squad from Manchester City last week. Thankfully the weather men completely got the weather report wrong and although Thursday was a little overcast, the sun shone brightly for the teams on Friday. The more experienced, younger and drilled Manchester City team ended up winning more games than the Mentals did however, lessons were learnt by the fledging Costa Blanca squad, so never let it be said that you can't teach old dogs new tricks. City brought out an A and B team while the Mentals fielded two evenly matched teams, so with splitting their better players between two squads, neither team could cope with the first team from Manchester City, although if the Mentals had chosen a first and second team, matters might have been different. And while walking football might not attract Manchester City Players of yesteryear such as Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee or Asa Hartford, it does attract players of all ages from fifty to seventy plus, who can still enjoy a style of football, even though many hung their boots up decades

ago. At the end of the day, it's all about having some fun, staying fit and doing what these seniors really enjoyed in their youth and never thought they would have the opportunity to do again. Last year, 'City in the Community' introduced Manchester to Walking Football, a revolutionary sport designed for over-50s, but open to all age groups wanting to keep fit. The programme quickly became a success and the number of participants getting involved just keeps on growing. The one key difference between Walking Football and standard football is simple - no running allowed,

although it must be said, there are different interpretations of what is walking and what falls in between. Head of City in the Community, Mike Green, couldn’t be happier with the impact this initiative is already having on the community. “You never know which activities are going to draw a crowd, but this one definitely is. Every week our numbers grow and it’s just amazing to see so many people in the community getting active and having fun as they do it. Walking Football has it all really being a highly rewarding and social sport. I think that’s

2,508 Signatures and still counting Signatures for the Save Our Park campaign have now passed the 2,500 mark as more and more people back the campaign to have the pentapartito council restart the project. Last week, 2,408 signatures were officially handed into the PROP office in Torrevieja, and will be officially presented as part of the Council Meeting at the end of the month, no matter whether or not the Mayor Jose Manuel Dolon or other pentapartito councillors wish to address the issue or not. Space permitting, anyone who wishes can attend Council meetings, which are held on the third floor of the town hall, on the last Thursday of the month, at 5.00pm.

why so many people have taken to it. We just hope it keeps on growing, because a healthy lifestyle only gets more important the older you get and the well-being of our local community is extremely important to everyone at CITC.” CITC’s Walking Football sessions will be held every Tuesday at the Manchester Tennis and Football Centre on the Etihad Campus. Each session costs just £2 and is definitely worth a

shot. Locally, more and more teams are starting up and along with the Monte Mentals there are popular teams in Playa Flamenca and further inland. Plans are already afoot to start up new teams in Torrevieja and Dream Hills among others. More information on the Monte Mentals and advice on Walking Football in the local community from Stan at: montestan@gmail.com.

Torrevieja celebrates Valencia Day

On Friday the Mayor along with the majority of both sitting and opposition councillors, including the Vice President of the Alicante Provincial Council, Eduardo Dolon took part in the symbolic flag raising ceremony for Valencia Day. This simple act was attended by a large audience and accompanied by the participation of Union Musical Torrevieja (UMT), who interpreted the Hymn to Torrevieja and the Valencia Hymn during which the Mayor Torrevieja raised the flag of Valencia, ending with the interpretation of the Spanish National Anthem. The event was also attended by the Salt Queen, the Reina de la Sal, Ainara Antelo and her 'Dama' Marta de Miguel. After the ceremony finished, some people attending tried to talk to the Mayor and other members of the pentapartito council, asking for solutions and answers to their many problems.

Three arrested for transporting 465 kilos of cocaine Three men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in transporting a stash of 465 kilos of cocaine that was seized on a pleasure boat last January in the marina of Torre de la Horadada. The three arrested allegedly belong to a group dedicated to using pleasure boats to transport large quantities of cocaine they collect from 'mother ships'. The arrests occurred during a joint operation by the Guardia Civil, the National Police and the Tax Agency. The investigations began in July 2014, when knowledge of the presence of an organisation that introduced significant amounts of heroin into the province of Alicante were first reported. The first investigation determined the procedure used for transporting drugs involved the use of pleasure boats who met their main supply boats off the coast of Alicante. Last January, 2015, a Guardia Civil patrol spotted a pleasure boat moored at the Marina in Torre de la Horadada, Pilar de la Horadada. At first glance, they noticed suspicious packages on board: thirteen bales of large dimensions. The subsequent search of the ship found that the

bundles contained a total of 465 kilos of cocaine and officers arrested the owner of the yacht, a man in his 70s and his son of 43, suspected of a crime against public health. Both were allegedly responsible for collecting the drugs on the high seas but had no direct connection with the criminal gang that organised the shipment, said the statement from the Interior Ministry. In addition to the drugs, agents impounded a sailboat and two

Inquiries led to the agents arresting three alleged members of the drug ring: two of them Spanish and one in Montenegro, accused of being responsible for shipping the drugs. Sources of the Provincial Commissioner of the National Police in Alicante have specified that these three people, all with police records, were captured in Alicante and the towns of Aspe and Torrevieja. These men allegedly used the boats to transport their drug caches and provide technical resources and expertise to transfer and hide the narcotics, noted the press release of the Ministry of Interior. The PP accuses the pentapartito of hiding the truth behind contract negotiations Partido Popular Councillor JoaquĂn Albaladejo said last week that "the only objective of the pentapartito government is to try and hurt the popular party." Councillor for the PP Municipal Group, JoaquĂn Albaladejo, noted that the council has awarded different services and tried to claim this was the doing of the pentapartito, however the vast majority of these negotiations for services and contracts were started in the previous mandate of the PP. "The pentapartito have tried to deceive the citizens without the full details being communicated by the current government" and added that "other contracts were shelved only to then be initiated in an identical fashion with just some small amendment proposed by the council before the signing of the contract." The PP Councillor said that "it appears that the council will go to unimaginable extremes with the pentapartito's sole purpose is to only harm the PP. We do not know if Torrevieja citizens realise how transparent they are: such as the resolution of issues that have been so controversial as repairs or for fuel for sports facilities and educational centres, plus mainly the insurance of the municipal sports schools." He also noted that there is a 'new' contract, the access

control to the Pavilion Cecilio Gallego, with a booking and online reservation system, to help modernise the management and prevent movement of users to the pavilion; all of which was started in the previous mandate. Albaladejo said that this is "a minor amount of money for the same contract with the same company, with the same technical specifications without offering the possibility to expand the system further, as the

pentapartito announced last week with great fanfare." Albaladejo added "the contract had already been awarded, thanks to the efforts of the Popular Party and the work of the technical contract for the supply of fuel for the sports facilities and schools, thus ending the provision of these services without contract as was the commitment of the previous government team, with each and every one of those who were in this situation. Torrevieja citizens should note that the vast majority of cultural and sporting events, CIAJ Youth facilities plus programs and events, school programming, public building construction, etc., are all part of the mandate left to the pentapartito by the Partido Popular. However, to date, the council has not released any news as to their plans for such things as the widening of the N332, the opening of the Semana Santa Museum, plans for the Harbour Zone, movement of the Ice Factory and fishing fleet, the La Siesta Park, the Christmas Carol Concert, plans for the La Plaza Commercial Centre not to mention, after almost four months in power, what if anything, is happening with the Foreign Residents Office, of which not a word has been mentioned to the International press, since the pentapartito took power.

Travel Europe from a fiver starting in Spain this November Flixbus is an eco-friendly operator and a major player in the low-cost bus market. It's time to forget about those seats that give you backache and projection of long-forgotten films on a tiny TV screen at the front of the bus that is too far away to see or hear. The bus of the future, that is Flixbus, will be arriving in Spain in November. The German owned company promises journeys from five euros, with free Wi-Fi, entertainment, and reasonably-priced snack and drinks. Flixbus, is preparing to arrive in Spain next month and forever banish uncomfortable seats and terrible films. The company promises cheap tickets, free Wi-Fi, an entertainment service and, just to help make your trip more enjoyable, and something missing on typical aeroplanes, "space to stretch your legs". It isn't a new idea. Many expats will probably remember the days of such companies as Magic Bus back in the seventies and eighties who offered basic buses travelling all over Europe and Northern Africa, although these were certainly a 'no frills' service. The budget bus market has been growing over the last few years along with the sky's total domination by low-cost airlines. In fact, the bus market is now providing competition to the likes of Ryan Air, Easy Jet, Jet2 and others: "We can't offer the same speed as a plane, but the standard of our services is very close", noted the German firm. What is novel is the concept. FlixBus is looking to make travelling by bus 'sexy' (their exact words), with the possibility of offering flexible reservations, a mobile app and the potential to compensate for CO2 emissions during the journey. "We offer new, eco-friendly transport to those who want to invest more time than money. Our clients are demanding, and responsive to prices: they want to make reservations and change tickets easily; and have safe journeys that respect the environment", elaborates a company spokesperson. FlixBus began to attract funding in Munich in 2011 and entered into the market in 2013. Since then, they have received expert input from automotive corporation, Daimler, and also financial assistance from Holtzbrinck Ventures and General Atlantic funds. The operator is currently up and running in 15 countries, and is growing rapidly within the French and Italian markets following its experience in Germany. The company has just launched the Spanish version of its website, the step prior to initiating routes from Spain. Their website: www.FlicBus.com notes: Travel through Europe with FlixBus on one of our green buses. Choose your route from our extensive route network; with over 20,000 daily connections to 400 destinations in over 15 European countries you really can explore Europe. Planning a backpack trip through Europe? Want to go on a last minute city break? Or a holiday with

friends or family? No problem at all. We will take you from A to B at unbeatable prices. Choose from France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia not to mention Sweden, Denmark, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Austria – FlixBus provides the travel you want when you need it. Getting you from A to B stress free: thanks to the bus stop information on our website, up to date and current bus schedules and our helpful workers and friendly bus drivers on site, you do not need to worry about a thing. You can plan your bus trip and board your bus feeling completely relaxed. Our aim is to offer you a convenient, low cost and straightforward bus service. If you have any queries during the planning phase of your journey, take a look at our FAQs or simply give us a call. Our friendly customer service team will solve any of your problems and uncertainties! All contact information can be found in the contact area of our website. Buy your low cost bus tickets online, via our bus app, in one of our FlixBus shops or directly from the bus driver. Your ticket is your guarantee for a comfortable seat on board. Snacks & drinks are available from our friendly bus drivers along with free Wi-Fi and plug sockets on every bus. So you can surf the web, watch movies and stay connected for the duration of your journey. Save money with our unbeatably cheap bus tickets, save time with our detailed bus schedules and punctual buses and save the environment as bus travel is the most environmentally friendly means of transport. Go green. Get exclusive offers, competitions and news by signing up to our newsletter and liking our Facebook page. You will be the first to know all FlixBus news and updates. Their FAQ section answers most of the typical questions and once again, is a lot easier to navigate than many cut price airline sites. In order to board the bus you need either a printed out ticket or a ticket in electronic form (a pdf document or a QR code on your Smartphone). You also need valid official photographic identification (ID card, driving license, passport, armed forces ID, or similar). You will receive your booking confirmation, which you can print out, via email after you have completed your booking (please also check your spam folder.) The big difference between airline transport and their buses is in what you can take with you. You may take one piece of hand luggage and two pieces of baggage with you on your bus trip. Please label your baggage with your name and address. Hand luggage is one piece of luggage that does not exceed the measurements of 42 x 30 x 18cm and a maximum weight of 7kg, all valuables should

be carried as hand luggage. Normal baggage is limited to two pieces of baggage with each piece with measurements of no more than 67 x 50 x 27cm. Each person can take a maximum of 30kg on board. You can take up to three extra pieces of baggage; each piece must not exceed the dimensions stated above and a maximum weight of 15kg. Each additional piece of baggage costs 5.00€ and must be registered at least 48 hours before your departure time. In many of our buses you are able to bring bicycles of a standard size and without superstructures (max. weight of 25kg) on board. These can be added to your trip during the booking process for an extra fee of 9.00€ per item. You will select the number of bicycles that you would like to take on board at the same time of booking as you select the amount of passengers (max. 1 bike per passenger). Musical instruments that do not exceed the hand luggage weight and dimensions (42 x 30 x 18 cm, max. 7kg) can be taken on board free of charge in your passenger compartment instead of a regular hand luggage. For safety reasons we do not allow any pets or animals on board our buses. With the exception of guidance and assistance dogs who are accompanying a disabled passengers, upon presentation of the appropriate certificates. Guidance and assistance dogs are transported free of charge and must be registered at least 36 hours before your departure. Buses travel on scheduled routes and are therefore tied to a timetable. Therefore we ask that you give yourself plenty of time and arrive at your bus stop at least 15 minutes before your departure time. Please note that on some routes (of a distance under 50km and less than 1 hours driving time) there is an operating ban and therefore we are not permitted to sell tickets. Therefore it is not permitted to board or exit the bus at these stops and the connections are not available for booking. Each of our buses is equipped with air conditioning, an on board toilet, reading lamps and comfortable seats. Moreover, there are also refreshments, free Wi-Fi and also on some of our buses you will find plug sockets and a media centre with films and music on demand. On some of our journeys there are scheduled breaks that comply with the driving and rest periods of each trip. Principally, our aim is to take you to your destination as efficiently as possible, so we do not offer extra breaks. Our on board toilet and low cost snack list mean that even on our longer routes it is not necessary to make additional stops. Smoking on board our buses is not permitted, electronic cigarettes are also forbidden. However, you can exit the bus at the scheduled stops for a “cigarette break.” The Spanish site is presently being tested, but for example a trip from Paris to Amsterdam can cost as little as 19.00€ each way.

CIAJ Youth events and Zombie walk

Autumn events organised by the CIAJ were finally announced by Torrevieja's Councillor for Sports and Youth, Pablo Samper last Tuesday. The new autumn schedule of youth activities at the Centre for Information and Youth Animation (CIAJ) covers the months of October, November and December. The schedule has a number of highlighted activities including a Zombie Walk and Halloween party plus special Youth courses designed to improve the employability of Torrevieja's Youth, to be carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment. Samper also reported the launch of a new information service via WhatsApp at the number 606 055 291. Samper was accompanied by the technicians of CIAJ, Rosa Mª Lázaro Alfaro and Gustavo García Silva, who discussed the different training, leisure and recreation activities plus volunteering and employment opportunities aimed at the young population of the municipality. The first main activity will be held in Torrevieja on the night of Halloween, Saturday October 31st, called "Zombie Survival" a Real Game in the style of the "Walking Dead" set in an apocalyptic world full of zombies, with the goal being the survival of participants. Also included in the programming of the CIAJ, after receiving many requests to do so, is a trip to Port

Aventura, on the 7th and 8th November. In terms of training, they have included the implementation of a program aimed at young people aged between 16 and 29 who neither study nor are in work and who wish to improve their employability through training courses, practice and jobs experience in which youth can participate as a partner of the SIJ Project + Youth Guarantee the Ministry of Employment and Social Security. One of the most popular of all the events offered at the CIAJ is the continuing of the English Language conversation classes to help students improve their oral English with native English speaking volunteers. There are also several workshops including "Funny Science" aimed at young people and the ESO course "Become A Youtuber" and a typing course. All workshops are conducted in collaboration with schools in the city and offer significant discounts to Jove Card holders that Samper noted are also available in the CIAJ, through IVAJ office. In addition, the Generalitat Valenciana, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Torrevieja, has organised a course of online business management and two workshops on self-employment for young entrepreneurs. The Volunteer sector will be organising two talks. "Volunteering in civil protection" and a briefing on the European Voluntary Service. Pablo Samper also highlighted a Gymkhana for young people in terms of festivities and a trip to the snow in Sierra Nevada in January 2016. More information can be found by visiting the CIAJ, located in Paseo Juan Aparicio 5, on the seafront close to Burger King, through their website: www.ciaj.es and the new WhatsApp number: 606 055 291. But back to those Zombies. Torrevieja will be filled with the Walking Dead on Halloween Night when they will host the 36th edition of the Zombie Survival, a reality game that mixes hide-and-seek with gymkhana, through the main streets of the city. The Survival Zombie game features several players characterized as zombies, police and doctors.

The Zombie Survival will be held overnight in a closed location and through the streets of the city. Participants can choose to be survivors who are fleeing to avoid being infected or to get dressed up and be zombies. The game will start at about 11.00pm and lasts 8 hours, with everyone having a role to play and trying to reach the end of the game without being "hunted" by any zombie. If that happens, you can stop playing or join the camp of the living dead, thanks to the makeup department of the organization. "We wanted to bring an event for young people and this is a different game is enjoyed by more than 50,000 people in Spain. And as it happens, it coincides with Halloween night so we hope you will join in, along with many other people and the actors, the zombie scenes and all the surprises," said the councillor of Culture, Alejandro Blanco, who was accompanied by the Councillor for Youth, Pablo Samper. The Director of World Real Games, Diego de la

Concepción, said that "we expect between 1,500 and 2,500 players" of the whole area of Alicante and Murcia, as well as from Valencia. "For the first time in three years the game falls on Halloween night on a Saturday, and we are preparing many surprises for everyone to enjoy in Torrevieja". Tickets to take part in the event range from 5.00€ to 33.00€ and are available on the website of http://survivalzombie.es/event/torrevieja/ and various outlets in Valencia including: WarZone and La Base Secreta. Those registered in Torrevieja will receive a discount. Those who can participate in the game include children from ten years accompanied by an adult. World Real Games has over five years’ experience creating reality games aimed at participants overcoming several tests over a set in a town or city tour while trying to survive and stay 'alive' to the end. Along the route, the survivors discover the network of an apocalyptic story that they should be able to form into a plan of action to help avoid the "end of the world" and stop the zombies conquering the territory. http://survivalzombie.es/event/torrevieja.

The advice stems from a joint campaign with the UK’s Mental Health Foundation that aims to raise awareness of how British nationals with mental health needs can prepare before travelling overseas, and is part of World Mental Health Day on 10 October. British Consulates in Spain handled 67 cases involving mental health needs in 2014/15. Will Middleton, Consular Regional Director for Spain, said: “Staff at our consulates in Spain are seeing more cases involving mental health. A deterioration in mental health whilst visiting a foreign country can cause considerable distress, both to the person concerned and to family and friends in Spain, as well as back in the UK. “So if you have a guest who has mental health needs, do take some simple steps to help ensure their visit is trouble-free and enjoyable for all concerned.” If you are hosting a friend or family member with a mental health condition, you can: Ask if your visitor has taken out travel insurance and whether the policy covers any pre-existing mental health conditions, and has a valid European Health Insurance Card (visit www.ehic.org.uk for more information) • If the visitor is on medication, check what they are taking and the normal dosage, and ask them to bring enough for their visit plus some extra to cover any unexpected delays • Whilst they are with you, encourage your visitor to continue to take their medication even if – as sometimes happens – they are feeling better because they are on holiday

• Be aware that English language help for people with mental health issues may be limited in your area and that the approach of health authorities may be different to the UK. You may want to find out what support is available locally, in case you need it • Consider who you would contact if your guest’s mental health deteriorates while in Spain, and ensure you can contact them in an emergency •Make sure your own passport is valid and in a safe place, in case you need to travel in an emergency Jenny Edwards, chief executive of the Mental Health Foundation, said: “Many people in the UK with mental health conditions manage them well day to day. However, there are a few extra things to consider when travelling abroad. Check your travel insurance covers pre-existing mental health conditions before travelling and make sure that your medication is legal, available, and sufficient for your trip. “Changes to your itinerary or a delayed flight could impact your mental health needs so it is important to travel prepared – pack medication in your hand luggage and keep a record of your mental health contacts in the UK in case you need to reach them. Research your travel destination and locate the local mental health services for that country. By following these simple steps, a relaxing trip can be easily enjoyed.” For more information about foreign travel and mental health, visit www.gov.uk/fco/mental-health-abroad. Oliver Stone: 'Aznar was Bush's poodle' During his visit to Palma for the Mallorca International Film & Media Festival (MIFF) with his new book, Filmmaker Oliver Stone, said that former Prime Minister, José María Aznar, was a "friend and lapdog" of President George W. Bush who helped “polarize the world and fill it with weapons.” In a press conference at the Hostal Cuba, Stone also vented against the President of the United States, Barack Obama, of whom he said that; "he has never been qualified to receive the Nobel Peace Prize" and has made the situation 'worse' than that he inherited from Bush during his tenure as "increased alertness, despite declaring in favour of transparency, with terrorist groups that have spread to all countries as Obama acted as a promoter of the Empire". Stone argued that giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama "was a mistake" and that "his speech in Oslo and was in favour of defensive war." "They should have waited a bit to give it to someone who deserved it," he lamented. "Obama declared against the exaggerated continuation of war on terrorism but the situation has been made even worse; the terrorist groups have spread to all countries, and it is the president who has most fiercely persecuted journalists who have used the Espionage Act of the First World War to spy on 17 people, thereby ruining their lives. He has bombed seven Muslim countries and increased the drone war that could be used against us at any moment." Regarding his new book, he said that what concerns him are the "mistakes" of his country, from the Civil War to the present, The director pointed out that "this is his

most ambitious work," and "would need 24 hours of television so that it can be dramatized and count as work. A collation of this, Stone has recommended the documentary series about the "shame" of the US and that is the basis of this book part. About the events described in the book, Stone stressed that it "no speculation, but it is orthodox" and that, for example, with "very concrete data shows that the objective of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasiki was to send a message to the Soviet Union and not Japan." He said that the book is having "a good reception" where it is published and that in the US it has caused a "great controversy". The director of films such as 'Platoon' and 'Born Murderers' acknowledged that his latest projects have been subject to censorship. He recalled about how his documentary about Cuban

leader Fidel Castro was cancelled by HBO just two weeks before its premiere and major studios who do not want to finance anything that generates "controversy". "Never call it censorship. They read the script and they like it but when it comes to the 'big bosses', we do not get the support. To carry out my latest project, 'Snowden' I had to resort to independent distributors and Europeans," he added. He commented that it is a "dramatization of the life" of Edward Snowden, the technology consultant who made public classified National Security Agency (NSA) documents and that "it is not that the NSA itself has censored the film, it is that the corporations themselves apply selfcensorship because we live in a climate of fear." Regarding having made three films about the Vietnam War ("Platoon," "Born on July 4" and "Heaven and Earth"), he said that he is "a playwright of history" and that if you make "a film of Vietnam, I do not make it because it's Vietnam, but because there is a great story. At first I told my own experience of war," in the second, I told the story of Ron Kovic, a veteran who was paralysed and in the Last, I narrated the life of Le Ly Hayslip, a woman who also lived through the conflict," said Stone. On the withdrawal of the HBO documentary "Comandante ' which was based on 30 hours of interviews with Castro, Stone complained that no explanation was given and asked if he could make another film, something to which he was refused. "Then I made another documentary, 'Looking for Fidel' with other excerpts from the interviews, and both of my works I'm very proud off," he asserted.

Grandma of the Camino British grandmother became a local celebrity in Spain after a short stroll spiralled into a 440-mile trek. Elena Mansell, 82, only aimed to make a short journey out of Pamplona in north-eastern Spain with her granddaughter, but decided not to stop and ended up on the other side of the country. Ms Mansell, from Garstang, Lancashire, was visiting 36-year-old Carla Gallagher when the two made the spontaneous journey that earned them hundreds of fans on their travels. She was swiftly dubbed the Grandma of the Camino as, armed with her walking stick, hiking boots and all-weather gear, she traced the path of an ancient Christian pilgrimage last month. Aside from one set of walking gear, they packed only spare socks, some vests, two tops, underwear and a sleeping bag lining. The pair stayed in hostels. The route ended at Santiago de Compostela, close to the north-western tip of Spain. During her travels, which last a month and took her past hundreds of small towns and villages, locals poured out to greet Ms Mansell and walk alongside her for part of the route. Speaking from her home Friday, Ms Mansell said: 'We didn't plan or book anything, we just started walking and worked out where to stop along the way. 'It was funny being known as the Grandma of the Camino and people would recognise me and tag along. 'When we were staying in hostels we had French,

Italian and Spanish men offering to cook us food, which was great. 'There were loads of big burly men dropping like flies because of injuries but I didn't understand what they were complaining about. 'I had a couple of blisters throughout the whole walk even though it was very different to walking in Lancashire as the roads are so gravelly. 'We walked from around 6am until 2pm, mainly because of the heat and then just sunbathed and explored after that. 'The adventure was amazing but it's something I won't be doing again and I'm really glad to be home.' Ms Mansell - a member of the Garstang Ramblers walked over 25 miles a day. Her journey lasted from

August 28 until September 27, and saw her visit hundreds of small towns and tiny villages. She and her Ms Gallagher followed one of the many famous medieval pilgrimage routes to the holy city of Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia, where the shrine of St James is located. The Camino de Santiago, or Path of St James, was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages during the Middle Ages, together with those to Rome and Jerusalem. James, son of Zebedee, was one of the Twelve Apostles, and the first to be martyred. He is the patron saint of Spain. Legend holds that St James's remains were carried by boat from Jerusalem to northern Spain, where he was buried on what is now the city of Santiago de Compostela. The name Santiago is the local Galician evolution of the Latin sanctus Iacobus or Saint James. While hundreds of Christian pilgrims take up the route for spiritual reasons, Ms Mansell said she and her granddaughter did it for a 'bit of fun'. She said: 'At first I was only going to do 100km but then I thought I probably won't get many chances to do this sort of thing... so I said let's do the whole thing! 'Lots of people take loads with them but we decided to just take a few clothes and the bare essentials. 'We didn't plan or book anything, we just started walking and worked out where to stop along the way.'

Spanish political newcomers Ciudadanos surge, Podemos drops in poll MADRID (Reuters) - Support for the center Ciudadanos party surged while backing for antiausterity party Podemos dropped sharply in October, according to the latest poll published by El Pais on Sunday, just two months before a general election on Dec. 20. Ciudadanos (Citizens) would take 21.5 percent of the vote if the election were held tomorrow, according to a poll of 1,200 people by Metroscopia, up from 16.1 percent a month earlier, bringing its support close to that of the two main parties. The Socialists (PSOE) and the ruling People's Party (PP) would gain 23.5 percent and 23.4 percent respectively, leaving Ciudadanos, led by 35-year-old Albert Rivera and only running with a national agenda since January, as potential king

maker. Podemos (We Can), led by political scientist Pablo Iglesias, would take 14.1 percent of the vote, according to the poll taken Oct. 7 an 8, after 18.6 percent in September and a long way from its height in January with 28.2 percent. A deep and prolonged economic crisis, massive unemployment and a slew of corruption scandals has prompted many Spaniards to turn away from the two traditional left and right parties and seek an alternative. However, support for Podemos has shrunk since the start of the year, especially after the Greek crisis, in which fellow anti-austerity party Syriza was forced to accept unpopular measures or a potential expulsion from the euro zone. Ciudadanos's rise, with its message of transparency and freemarket policies, was also reflected in a poll of voting intentions in the traditionally PP region of Valencia, published on Friday. According to an analysis on Sunday in El Mundo, in the recent regional election in Catalonia, some 30 percent of Spaniards which voted for the PP in 2012 migrated to Ciudadanos in the polls Sept 27.

Barca's Messi: father faces Spanish F1 driver Carlos trial on tax fraud charges Sainz airlifted to hospital

A Spanish court has ordered Lionel Messi and his father Jorge to stand trial in a tax fraud case and the state attorney said Barcelona's star player should serve a jail sentence of up to 22 months if found guilty. The two men are accused of defrauding the Spanish state of 4.2 million euros in tax from 2007 to 2009. Court documents published on Thursday said the hearings in the case would take place at a court in Vilanova i la Geltru near Barcelona but gave no date. The stance of the state attorney, which defends the interests of the Spanish state, contrasts with that of Spain's public prosecutor, who has said the soccer star should not have to answer the charges as his father oversaw his finances. The company that controls Messi's image rights, Leo Messi Management SLU, issued a statement which said Messi's defence team would present evidence in court "in coming weeks" that would show the state prosecutor's stance was the correct one and not that of the state attorney. "The jail sentence that the state attorney is asking for does not mean it would be served in full," the statement added. The public prosecutor this week recommended a jail sentence of 18 months and fines of more than 2 million euros for Jorge Messi. Lionel Messi and his father have

already paid 5 million euros to the tax authorities as a "corrective" measure after they were formally charged in June 2013. A Spanish court has previously ruled that Lionel Messi, 28, could have known about and approved the creation of a web of shell companies allegedly used to evade taxes on income from image rights. Revenue was hidden using companies in Uruguay, Belize, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, according to the prosecutor's office. Argentina-born Messi has been resident in Barcelona since 2000 and has had Spanish citizenship since 2005. He is 10th on Forbes Magazine's list of the world's highest-earning athletes over the past decade, with income of â‚Ź300 million.

SPANISH driver Carlos Sainz has been airlifted to hospital after a high-speed crash with the barriers during final practice. But the 21-year-old was conscious and even managed to give the thumbs-up as he was put into the back of an ambulance on a stretcher. His Toro Rosso was pictured submerged in the tyre barrier at the highspeed turn 13 section of the track which runs through Sochi's Olympic Park. The red flags were deployed and with 14 minutes remaining the decision was taken not to restart the session. Sainz was attended to by medical staff at the scene of the crash but Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost told Sky Sports F1 the driver was "conscious". He added that a decision would be taken later on whether he could play any further part in the race weekend. The Spanish driver - who who is competing in his debut Formula One season - was taken to the on-track medical centre and the sport's governing

body, the FIA, confirmed he was conscious. Sainz's team boss Tost said: "Carlos is conscious, he's with the doctors now. They will see if he can continue the race weekend." Replays of the incident appeared to show Sainz lose control of his Toro Rosso under braking. He collided with the wall and his frontleft wheel broke off before he went headon into the barrier at turn 13. FIA press officer Matteo Bonciani added: "Carlos is conscious, he's OK. He has talked to the doctor, so apparently we think it's fine," he told reporters at the trackside. "We need to see when he will be a little bit better, he is here inside the medical centre. We will see what's going on, we will need to see how he is when the adrenaline has gone down. "He is conscious, he is talking, and he even tried to remove his helmet on his own." Sainz's Toro Rosso team-mate Max Verstappen had said over the team radio: "Is he okay because it looks like a big one?" "We lost the power on the car so we don't know," his team replied. There were worrying concerns on the faces of his team, and throughout the paddock, as it took 20 minutes to extract the Spaniard, son of double world rally champion Carlos Sainz Snr, from his car.

I am your Father

The documentary 'I Am Your Father', about the man under the Darth Vader suit, opens this October in Sitges. The Spanish documentary is all about the man behind the costumed villain of the' Star Wars' Darth Vader saga, and will be released this week at the 48th International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, held in Sitges from 9th to 18th October. The film is directed by Mallorcan Marcos Cabotá and Toni Bestard. The shooting of this film, formerly known as 'Meet David Prowse' ended in early March this year with an interview with Robert Watts, one of the producers of the series of 'Indiana Jones' and 'Star Wars'. This was the finishing segment for the films and done when the documentary was already in post-production. David Prowse played Darth Vader in the first trilogy of Star Wars but neither his voice was heard nor his face seen, because when the face of Vader in 'Return of the Jedi' was revealed, the face that was then 'discovered', was from another actor. The documentary was funded in part by the system of 'micromezenazgo' crowdfunding and cost a total of 20,310€, of which 18,500€ was thought to be the initially needed budget. IB3 also participated in its production. According to Wikipedia: David Prowse, MBE was born on 1st July 1935 and won the British heavyweight weightlifting championship in 1962, 63 and 64. He represented England in the weightlifting event at the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Perth, Western Australia but is best known for playing Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, though the character's voice was provided by James Earl Jones. He also played the Green Cross Code man, a character used in British road safety advertising. Prowse spoke the dialogue during the making of the films and although he was never going to be used as the voice of Darth Vader, Prowse claims he was originally told that he would be seen and heard at the end of Return of the Jedi when Vader's mask was removed. Instead, actor

Sebastian Shaw was used. Lucas claims he wanted a "darker voice: that is, a deeper, more reverberating voice. In the 2004 documentary Empire of Dreams, actress Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia Organa in the original trilogy films, quipped that they nicknamed Prowse "Darth Farmer" because of his un-intimidating accent. In the lightsaber battle scenes between Vader and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Prowse, who was not a skilled swordsman, was doubled by the scene's fightchoreographer, the stuntman and fencing coach Bob Anderson. Prowse claims his contract for Return of the Jedi included a share of profits on the film, and although it grossed $475 million on a $32 million budget, Prowse explained in an interview in 2009 that he has never received residuals for his performance. Due to "Hollywood accounting", the actual profits are sent as "distribution fees" to the studio, leaving nothing to distribute to others. In July 2010, Prowse was banned by George Lucas from attending official Star Wars fan conventions but Lucas has reportedly given Prowse no reason, other than stating that Prowse "burnt too many bridges" between Lucasfilm and himself.

13

Many will remember Prowse as the Green Cross Code Man, a superhero invented to promote a British road safety campaign for children in 1975. As a result of his association with the campaign, which ran between 1971 and 1990, he received the MBE in 2000. He had a role as F. Alexander's bodyguard Julian in the 1971 film A Clockwork Orange, in which he was noticed by the future Star Wars director George Lucas. He played a circus strongman in 1972's Vampire Circus, a Minotaur in the 1972 Doctor Who serial The Time Monster, and an android named Copper in The Tomorrow People in 1973. He appeared in an episode of Space: 1999, The Beta Cloud in 1976 right before he was cast as Darth Vader. Around that time, he appeared as the Black Knight in the Terry Gilliam film Jabberwocky (1977). He had a small role as Hotblack Desiato's bodyguard in the 1981 BBC TV adaptation of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. He appeared in the first series of Ace of Wands on LWT and as a bodyguard in Callan. He played Charles, the duke's wrestler, in the BBC Television Shakespeare production of As You Like It in 1978. Prowse played Frankenstein's monster twice, in The Horror of Frankenstein and Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell. Prowse made two uncredited appearances on The Benny Hill Show. On Hill's first show for Thames Television in 1969, he played a briefs-clad muscleman in the "Ye Olde Wishing Well" quickie, and in 1984 he showed off his muscles in a sketch set to the song "Stupid Cupid". The earlier routine was also featured in the 1974 film The Best of Benny Hill, in which he was credited. Amongst his many non-speaking roles, Prowse played a major speaking role in "Portrait of Brenda", the penultimate episode of The Saint broadcast in 1969. In May 2010, he played Frank Bryan in The Kindness of Strangers, an independent British film produced by Queen Bee Films. The film screened at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

CoastRider CoastRider - Edition 568 - Edition - October 470 13th - March 2015 5thwww.coastridersl.com 2013

Back Stage with Tony Marsh Artists Direct –Spain had a chat with Tony Marsh of Shades Of Grey back stage. Who are you and what do you do? My name is Tony Marsh and I am lead/rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist with the band Shades Of Grey. How did you start in the business? A couple of years ago, I was asked by Colin Hulcoop (Bass guitarist) if I could play an instrument. I went for a rehearsal with his former band and shortly after that, we set out together and formed what is now Shades Of Grey. After a few hiccups and a turn around with members, we are now a happy band of brothers. What would you be doing if you were not an entertainer? Well I am now retired but used to be a Carpenter/Joiner, so I suppose I would have continued along that path. I do still dabble occasionally but I prefer to pluck the strings as I have done since my father taught me as a boy. As an entertainer who has been your biggest influence? I am the youngest of 5 siblings and as a child I would be forever listening to their music. So the music of the 60’s has been my overall influence. I loved it then and I love it now. Therefore, no one person in particular but the entire decade. Obviously my love for music spans a vast spectrum as I love to play almost all genres. Do you ever get nervous or have you suffered stage fright? Surprisingly, no. I have never proclaimed to be a singer but it seemed I was the best of the bunch at the time and landed myself a full time job. That was somewhat scary initially but I believe I have improved over time!!

What was your best moment? My best moment was sitting in a local bar minding my own business, then being approached and asked if I had my guitar to hand. I fetched my acoustic from the car and began to twang. I had never played to an audience before and couldn’t always remember the words but within a very short space of time, I had people singing along, dancing, clapping and really enjoying themselves. It was mind blowing. One young lady (opera trained) sung a wonderful rendition of “summertime“ which had me near to tears. After several hours and numerous handshakes and hugs, they passed round the hat. The proprietor then booked me for several more ‘pluckings’, great stuff. What has been your worst moment? Worst moment, was a first gig at a club opening. Thirty minutes in, the amp decided to blow several fuses. Whilst one member shot off for a replacement, we entertained with one drum and one guitar and a medley of instrumentals. A big ‘thank you’ though to most of the audience that stayed with us through a very difficult and nerve racking time. It couldn’t have been that bad as they did ask us to return again. What’s the best piece of advice you have received or would give someone starting out in the business? First and foremost, enjoy yourself, go out and have fun. Smile your way through every obstacle you may encounter. Secondly, take on board all constructive comments and listen to your audience. Any little anecdotes or interesting stories? Just three of us carried off another 4 hours of entertainment to an audience of about 200 people at a posh hotel overlooking the sea, with a luxurious interior and tables laid for a banquet. We should have been fed and watered as agreed but no reservation had been made for this. After much debate and not so friendly discussion, we legged it up the road for hamburger and chips, returning to venue 5 minutes before we were due to start. Coastrider Gig Guide Jammy Dodgers

From its inception in the summer the website has grown to over 70 acts. The website has many solo acts, duos, bands, speciality acts, shows, karaoke and DJ’S all available to be booked direct with each act themselves, whether for a bar, restaurant or a birthday party by the pool. Each act has a page on the site which shows publicity pictures, gives their contact details, videos, sound tracks and promotional material if available. It is not an agency – it is a go to place to find acts and book them direct. On the website there is a section called ‘I’m Free which is those acts that have dates that have become available usually though cancellation or those acts still available to be booked on special days of the year such as New Year’s Eve. We also have a ‘Muso’s Corner’ section on the site which is for anything vaguely musical. You can buy sell share or swap, buy new online and many of the businesses listed offer discounts for those acts registered on the website. As well as their own page – each acts gigs are listed on the site and form part of the gig guide in The Coastrider each week so you can easily see where your favourite act is playing. We also offer a free feature for acts not registered on the site to add their gigs to the Coastrider gig guide using an online calendar. Contact info@artistsdirect-spain.com to find out how. As well as our Facebook page, artists direct also run a Facebook Group called ‘Book Acts Direct’ which is specifically for venues looking for acts. This has proven very effective for venues sometimes requiring a specific type of act or an act at short notice. There is always something new on the site with new acts coming on board all the time. 10 post-menopause positives Looking forward to waving goodbye to hot flushes and night sweats? There are plenty more reasons to feel positive about your post-menopausal years. 1. Your memory will improve Many of us see forgetfulness as an inevitable part of ageing – but there's strong evidence to suggest our memories actually improve after the menopause. Around 60 per cent of women suffer a temporary decline in memory during the menopause, according to a study from the University of California. But note the word 'temporary'. Researchers found that learning capacity had returned to pre-menopausal levels after the menopause. 2. You'll sleep better If night sweats have been wreaking havoc with your sleep patterns, you'll already be looking forward to a good night's slumber when they finally subside. In fact, aside from a brief blip in middle-age, our allround sleep quality actually appears to improve as we grow older. A University of Pennsylvania study of 150,000 US adults found the fewest sleep complaints among the over-70s. 3. You'll be much happier Feeling down and disheartened during the menopause? Don't worry: you're set to cheer up very soon. Our satisfaction levels reach their lowest point during our mid-50s, but start to rise again soon after – peaking at the age of 69, according to a study at the London

School of Economics. 4. You'll be less disappointed Here's another cheering statistic from that London School of Economics study: at 68, people underestimate their future happiness by 4.5 per cent. Or to put it another way: we think our future is going to be slightly worse than it actually turns out to be. That may not sound hugely positive – but compare this to the great expectations you had in your 20s, and the disappointment you felt when all your dreams didn't come true after all. Age teaches you acceptance and appreciation, and to be satisfied with your lot. 5. You'll feel much calmer An end to the menopause means an end to the often debilitating mood swings that are triggered by hormonal changes. And if you'd spent the previous 40 years suffering from PMS every month, you'll be even more relieved to finally see the back of your periods. 6. You'll suffer fewer headaches Headaches – and migraines in particular – can often be triggered by hormone fluctuations and stress, both of which are prevalent throughout the menopause. The good news? Around 67 per cent of women find their migraines go away entirely or improve significantly after the menopause, according to Migraine Action. 7. You could have the best sex ever Think your most satisfying times between the sheets are over? Not necessarily so! More than 60 per cent of over-65s enjoy a fulfilling sex life, according to an Age UK

survey. And a recent study at the University of San Diego found that 67% of sexually active older women achieve an orgasm 'most of the time' or 'always'. Co-author Dr Susan Trompeter commented: 'Not only were the oldest women in this study the most satisfied overall, those who were recently sexually active experienced orgasm satisfaction rates similar to the youngest participants.' 8. You'll feel more confident Coping with menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, mood swings and disturbed sleep, can knock your body confidence for six. But once things settle down again, there's a good chance you'll feel a lot better about your appearance. After all, experience has told you how to look your best. In fact, women feel most confident in their beachwear after the age of 55, according to a survey of 2,000 people for TK Maxx. 9. You'll have fewer colds As we age, we spend less time fighting off the sniffles – simply because our immune systems learn to deal with familiar viruses. The average 50-something catches half the amount of colds as a teenager, for example. And while we're on the topic of sniffles, you may be pleased to hear you're less likely to suffer hay fever as you grow older, too. 10. You'll have more freedom Reaching retirement age means you have more time to do the things you enjoy doing – unencumbered by menopause symptoms, of course. Now's the time to see more of your friends, travel the world, take up new hobbies and generally just enjoy yourself. So what are you waiting for?

How to avoid catching a cold No 1 Wash your hands after being in a crowded place or in the same room as someone with a cold. This really works. A survey published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine showed that episodes of colds and flu among 1,442 naval recruits at a training centre in Great Lakes Illinois almost halved after they were commanded to wash their hands more frequently. The old theory about colds was that cold viruses were spread through the air, carried on tiny droplets of moisture that were then breathed in by other people. This is certainly one method of catching a cold, but experts now believe that many or even most colds are passed on via hands. No 2 Don't touch your nose and eyes unless you have to. We all do this many times a day without being aware of it. Once the virus is on your hands it's all too easy to transfer it and tears drain from the eyes via a duct into the nose so virus can easily spread from the eyes to the nose. During a cough or sneeze, 40,000 infected droplets may be expelled as far as 30 feet. Some of these droplets will be deposited on objects, where the virus may survive for up to three hours, to be picked up by anyone who touches the object. Door handles, handrails on public transport, light switches and crockery are common culprits. You can also pick up cold virus by shaking hands with someone who has recently blown their nose. No 3 We often pick up colds from people we have never met so wear gloves when you travel on public transport. Yes I know that to some people this might seem a bit over the top but it is very easy to pick up cold virus from handrails on the bus or Tube. No 4 Your granny was right: you need to wrap up. In an experiment at Cardiff University's Common Cold Centre 90 volunteers spent 20 minutes with their feet in cold water and, surprise, surprise: 29 per cent developed cold symptom within five days compared to 9 per cent

of the control group who simply dangled their feet in an empty bowl. No 5 When wrapping up don't forget your nose - you should cover it with a scarf when the weather is cold. The importance of the effect of cold air in the nose is a new idea. Professor Ron Eccles, director of the Cardiff centre who came up with it, says that viruses multiply in the cells that line the nose, and they breed faster when the cells are cool. No 6 Take a walk to boost your immune system: even on a cold day it still helps. Again it is to the USA that we have to turn for the relevant research. A study by Professor David Nieman at Appalachian State University in North Carolina examined the risks of catching a cold among a group of women aged between 65 and 84 over a 12-week period. Their findings revealed that walking for between 30 and 40 minutes five times a week almost halved the women's risk of catching a cold. No 7 Fewer colds seems to be one advantage of getting older; most of us are able to fight off a good selection of the 200 or so different cold viruses without much difficulty. After the age of 50, the average person has 1-2 colds each year, whereas 20-year-olds have 2-3 colds and small children have many more. Over time, the immune systems of older people may have learnt to deal with a wide range of cold viruses. Also, many older people spend less time with children, who are the main reservoir of cold viruses. No 8 Try a nasal spray, such as Vicks First Defence (available from pharmacists). This jelly-like substance coats the virus so it cannot attach to the lining of the nose. It is also slightly acidic (which cold viruses dislike), and it stimulates secretions to wash the virus away. The idea makes sense, and preliminary research has shown it halves the likelihood of getting a cold. No 9 Banish stress. It might be easier said than done,

but it really seems to help. Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh asked 276 healthy volunteers about the stresses in their lives, and then deposited cold viruses in their noses. Those who had reported chronic stress (especially personal difficulties with friends or relatives) were more than twice as likely to become ill with a cold. It seems that chronic stress affects the immune system, and makes people less resistant to infection. No 10 Finally, don't waste money on Echinacea. In a study at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, USA, 473 volunteers were given either Echinacea or a dummy version for several days, and then a dose of common cold virus. Sadly, the results, published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2005, showed that Echinacea had no effect on the likelihood of developing a cold or its severity. Vitamin C does not fare much better. Scientists at the Australian National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health looked at 55 studies of vitamin C and the common cold, going back over 65 years and involving more than 11,000 people. They concluded that, for most people, taking vitamin C regularly does not reduce your chances of getting a cold. However it did have a noticeably good effect on marathon runners, skiers and soldiers exposed to extreme conditions.

How to Overcome Job Burnout Are you feeling tired and even a bit depressed when you go to work in the morning? Have you lost your enthusiasm for your job and even your co-workers? If so, you could be suffering from job burnout. Long hours of work and time spent away from family and friends can make you susceptible to this common syndrome. Not only can job burnout make your time spent at work unrewarding, it can also lead to physical problems such as high blood pressure, headaches, and digestive problems. Is there an easy way to overcome job burnout? Here are some suggestions to help you regain your enthusiasm for your job: Alter your schedule Sometimes a change in your work schedule can be a quick cure for job burnout. If you're not a morning person and you're arriving at the job at 5:00 A.M, you're fighting your body's natural biorhythm and reducing your potential productivity. If your job is flexible, see if you can change your hours so that you arrive two hours later. Likewise, if you're getting home late in the evening and missing time with your family, see if you can go in earlier to allow you more free time in the evening. Determine when you're most productive and arrange your work schedule around those times. Plan mini vacations A long vacation is not always the best approach to handling job burnout. Being away from the job for long periods of time can make it harder to return to your regular schedule. Try taking more frequent short

vacations instead, such as a three-day weekend. This will give you just enough time to feel refreshed and ready to retackle your assignments, plus you'll be able to take them more frequently. Mini vacations can be an excellent job burnout treatment. Learn a new aspect of your job Sometimes job burnout occurs due to boredom and repetition. Is there a college course or seminar you could take that would help you gain additional knowledge and skill related to your job? This may be just the challenge you need to overcome job burnout. Plus, those additional skills may be a stepping-stone to a promotion or a salary increase. Education can be an effective job burnout treatment for many people. Turn your job into a game Give yourself fun challenges related to your job every

day. See if you can get a certain job done in less time than it took you to do it yesterday or challenge yourself to approach a task in a different way. Experiment with new ways to increase your productivity. Give yourself points for completing certain assignments and see how many points you can accrue by the end of the day. Challenge and mental stimulation can be an excellent job burnout treatment. Give yourself small rewards When you complete a job-related task during the day, give yourself a small reward such as a quick coffee break or a small piece of chocolate. Congratulate yourself on a job well done. Positive reinforcement can be a great technique to help overcome job burnout. Learn stress management techniques There are a variety of effective techniques for conquering stress-related symptoms. For some people focused meditation or yoga can be an effective way to manage stress and overcome job burnout. For others, an intense workout at the gym may be an effective strategy. Explore some of the different methods available to help reduce stress and incorporate them into your daily routine. Be sure you're eating a healthy diet and getting enough sleep since these factors can play a role in exacerbating stress. By making some subtle changes to the way you approach your job, you can overcome job burnout and reduce your level of work related stress. If you're still feeling blue after making changes, you may want to reconsider your choice of job or career.

How Can You Boost Your Immune System?

You may not be aware of it, but every day there’s a battle raging inside your body as it is under constant attack from dangerous free radicals and foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. What keeps ill health at bay is a strong immune system. Your immune system consists of various antibodies, each with a special protective role. These are dependent on good nutrition and a supportive lifestyle. However, if your immune system becomes overworked or is not nourished properly, it gives up the fight and surrenders to the bad guys. Once this happens, not only will you be ill frequently, but you will also take a long time to recover from whatever has made you ill. What can you do to give your immune system that extra boost? Here are a few suggestions: Step up your intake of ‘ACE’. Vitamins A, C and E have the power to boost the immune system and limit the damage done by free radicals — unstable molecules produced by the body. They can trigger degenerative conditions, like heart disease and cancers. Free radicals, also known

simply as radicals, are organic molecules responsible for aging, tissue damage, and possibly some diseases. These molecules are very unstable, therefore they look to bond with other molecules, destroying their vigour and perpetuating the detrimental process. Antioxidants, present in vitamins A, C and E, are molecules that prevent free radicals from harming healthy tissue. Befriend friendly bacteria. Probiotics, ‘friendly bacteria’ added to yogurt drinks and also available in supplement form, could boost your immune

system. It appears that probiotics help to activate certain cells in the immune system, and studies have found that the beneficial bugs can cut the duration of the common cold by nearly a quarter. Sink your teeth into zinc. This valuable mineral increases the production of white blood cells that fight infection and helps them fight more aggressively. It also increases killer cells that fight against cancer and helps white cells release more antibodies. Zinc supplements have been shown to slow the growth of cancer. A word of caution: too much

zinc in the form of supplements (more than 75 milligrams a day) can inhibit immune function. It's safest to stick to getting zinc from your diet and aim for 15 to 25 milligrams a day. Exercise regularly. A healthy amount of energy is a great boost to your immune system — half an hour of brisk walking, five days a week, is all it takes. Exercise is also a great stress buster, and stress puts a real dampener on your immunity. Just don’t overdo the exercise. ‘Overtraining’, actually suppresses the immune system. If your workouts are too long, too intense or you don’t allow yourself enough rest in between, you’ll leave yourself more vulnerable to illness. Get a full night's sleep. Everybody's different: your body

may need anywhere from 6 to 10 hours of sleep each night. Whatever your personal sleep requirement is, get it! Sleep has been linked to balanced hormone levels (including human growth hormone and the stress hormone, cortisol), keeping weight down, clear thinking and reasoning, improved mood, and vibrant, healthy skin. Avoid these enemies. Your immune system has many enemies — try to avoid: • Stress • Pollution • Cigarette smoke • Food contaminants such as pesticides • Too little, or too much, exercise • Obesity • Crash dieting • Poor nutrition

Foreigners Invested 741.6 Million Registrars publish English guide Euros for Golden Visas to August to buying property in Spain

The Entrepreneurs Law in Spain has benefited from investment amounting to some 741.6 million euros from foreigners acquiring a home in Spain for more than half a million euros, in order to obtain a ‘Golden Visa’. In this regard, up until the end of August 2015, the Spanish Government had granted 11,411 new residence visas. The extensions made by the Government to boost capital inflows and foreign investment, through the Second Opportunity Act, has resulted in an increase in ‘Golden Visa’ requests over the past year. These changes have allowed investors to not only gain a residence permit but also obtain the right to work, while their relatives could obtain residency in Spain.

Of the total 11,411 visas granted, idealista.com reported that some 5,856 of the visas related to investors and companies, and 5,555 to relatives. During these past two years, a total of 3,872 visas have been granted to qualified personnel and executives, followed by entrepreneurs and investors (1,182) and researchers (802). In addition to the main investment expenditure of around 741.6 million euros associated with the purchase of housing, a further 509 million euros was invested in bringing qualified staff to the companies, while 414 million euros was spent on inter-company movements and 245 million euros related to entrepreneurs’ investments.

The Spanish Registrars Association, in collaboration with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in Spain (RICS), and the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP), have published a new guide to buying property in Spain. Written in English, the guide follows the journey of an imaginary British couple – Frank and Diane – who are close to retirement in their fifties, as they set about buying a home in Spain. All the key steps and costs are explained, along with buying tips and “crunch points” that illustrate pitfalls to avoid. As the introduction to the guide explains, “although Frank and Diane are British, they could just as easily be Lars and Lotte from Belgium, Max and Mia from Germany, or Shirley and Sheila from Australia. The dangers are all the same when folks “leave their brains behind at the airport” and the rewards are the same when they do it right.” The guide aims to “guarantee the security of the buyer throughout the process,” explains the press note from the Registrars. The fact that the Spanish Registrars Association is helping to publish a guide to buying in Spain aimed at foreign buyers shows how important this demand has become. “Foreign citizens were involved in 12.5% of all homes purchased in the first half of 2015, even reaching between a third and a quarter of sales in some autonomous communities, like the

Balearics, where they represented 33.5% of all purchases in this region in the second quarter, followed by the Canaries (27.5%), the and Valencian Community (25.7%),” they explain. “In Murcia, Andalusia, and Catalonia, they represent between 12% and 15% of the market, whilst in Madrid 4.7% of purchases were made by foreigners.” in Spain, as in other countries, private property rights are most secure when inscribed in the property register, known in Spain as the Registro de la Propiedad (Registradores.org). For maximum peace of mind, buyers in Spain should check the registry information of a property before purchase, and then inscribe their title deeds in the Spanish Property Register after the purchase has been witnessed before a notary public. This new Guide To Buying A Property In Spain can be viewed online at the website of the Spanish Registrars Association www.registradores.org/wpcontent/revista/otros/guideAIpp/

The average home that installs window films will make back their investment in approximately three years. The window film requires no maintenance and has a service life of ten years. “This product is brilliant. I am happy with the protection window film. It does what it said it would do and looks great too,” says Mr. Olef, homeowner in Torrevieja and customer of Folix. Now he benefits from

lower heating and cooling bills by installing Folix Protection Window Films. “My house in the summer is like an oven,” reports Mr. Olef. “I have 16 big windows, so as the sun rises in the morning the temperature creeps up and up and then stays at an average of 35 degrees. As soon as the protection window film was on my windows you can really feel the difference. I looked into all the other alternatives but this was the cheapest. The installation was so fast, just in one and a half days, without noise and dirt. I would recommend this company to anyone who needs a window film.” FOLIX: +34 96 678 59 23 or info@folix.es / www.folix.es

After Hours at The Porter House jam featuring acoustic guitar, banjo and, of course, singers. It is much more like the traditional jam sessions I remember back in Ireland, everyone is welcome, anyone can get up join in and we provide free food for everyone that comes along. We have Phil keeping everything together in his own relaxed style. It is often a pleasant new experience for people who may have previously only sang on the karaoke to sing with real live musicians. Any interesting tales? One wild karaoke night we had two male karaoke presenters who had gotten up together to sing ‘Sex Bomb’ by Tom

Whats On Costa Blanca recently shared a glass with Linda at The Porter House Tell us about yourselves My name is Linda and I run the Porter House bar, Altos del Limonar along with my husband Tony and daughter Katie. We have been here for more than 8 years now. We are originally from Dublin, Ireland, and I did a lot of bar work there over the years before we came to Spain. What made you open a bar? The bar was originally opened and run by my uncle and I used to help out there when I could, although I was also working in another bar at the time. About 8 years ago he decided to return to Ireland for health reasons so Tony and I took it over, and have been here ever since. Where did the inspiration for the name come from? That’s an easy one…’porter’ is another word for ‘stout’, meaning ‘Guinness.’ Therefore we are ‘The House of Guinness.’ Who does the cooking? And how would you describe your style? My daughter Katie does a lot of the

cooking as does Sonia, one of my excellent staff. There again sometimes I do it myself. We like to serve up a combination of classic All day English breakfasts and good traditional Irish food…cabbage and bacon is an Emerald Isle favourite. We serve straight forward food, but plenty of it like the Big Burger we do, huge thing – must be a half pounder with absolutely everything on it and a soft drink included in the price. What’s your favourite dish on the menu? My personal favourite is the good old Sunday roast. Favourite day of the week? Any day when there is music. We have karaoke several nights a week, even in the winter, with different presenters so there’s always variety in that sense. Of course there’s even more variety with the many different singers who take part. However I have to say that my favourite time of all is Saturday afternoon when we have our jam session. Our jam has a more laid-back feel as it is an acoustic

Jones and had decided to strip to the waist. This was fine but then halfway through the song a lady in the audience got up and started rubbing baby oil all over their naked upper bodies. God knows where the baby oil came from. She loved it, they loved it and so did all the other people in the bar. It was totally appropriate for the song and a great time was had by all. I laugh out loud every time I hear that song now. The Porter House is open every day for food and entertainment. Contact them on 672 504 724 or go to whatsoncostablanca.com and see what they have going on each day.

Bacalao a la Vizcaina-Cod Bizcaine Style Bacalao a la vizacaina is yet another example of the very tasty yet very simple dishes that come from the northern Spanish region of the Basque Country. The main ingredient of Bacalao a la vizacaina is codfish. Cod is perhaps one of the most consumed fish in Spain, although historically this fish was mostly a product eaten during Lent. It is also a fish that is easily fished around the coasts of Spain, of which there is a lot! Originally from the Basque Country, Vizcaina sauce on the other hand, is a sauce that is extremely versatile and is used in a number of dishes from the region. It is often used for many stews and products such as the pork dish called 'Manos de cerdo con salsa vizcaína'. In some parts of the Basque Country, they even use the sauce in an escargot recipe. However most people will associate the sauce immediately with cod. Nowadays it is a rather polemic recipe, as the argument whether tomatoes should be one of it's ingredients or not is a very alive debate among gourmets and cooks, though many say that the red ingredient is pepper. Either way, the sauce is a rich red colour and is tasty with either ingredients. So when you come to make this dish, the choice is up to you! The pepper theory seems historically more plausible, as tomatoes were not used as food in Spain even 200 years after they were imported; first they were used as ornamental plants. Perhaps, pepper was used originally and then, once the tomato became more commonly used in Spanish cooking, the sauce was adapated. But it

One of the great things about vizcaina sauce is that it is fairly simple to make and generally uses common and inexpensive ingredients. This means that it is a great option for those people who love Spanish gastronomy, but want to enjoy it on a budget!

doesn't really matter, in truth there are many formulas to prepare this sauce, and despite how much people may argue about it's historical accuracy, they are delicious anyway. You might find that certain people use a type of Spanish biscuit, often a 'galleta maria', when they are making the sauce. These biscuits are used to help thicken the sauce, but it can often make it much sweeter. The sauce may be thick or runny, depending on your personal taste. If you don't want to use biscuits to thicken your sauce, you could always use plain or corn flour instead. Bacalao a la vizcaina is perhaps one of the most notorious Spanish dishes along with paella and Spanish tortilla. It may be found in many bars and restaurants in the country and served as a dish or a tapa. We recommend you to try it if you ever come to Spain.

Ingredients: • 1 large salted cod loin • 1 large onion • 2 garlic cloves • 2 roasted peppers (preferably chorizo peppers • 1 tomato • 1 tbs of flour • Extra virgin olive oil Preparation: • Soak the cod loin in water for 24 hours, changing the water frequently to get rid of some of the salt • When it's on the right point of salt put the cod loin in a pan with cold water and heat. Remove from the fire when it begins to boil. • Cover the bottom of a frying pan with olive oil. Stir fry the diced onion until it begins to brown, then add the garlic cloves, peppers and tomato. • When all the ingredients are lightly fried add the flour, it must toast a little. • Add some of the broth in which the cod was cooked (two teacups) and let it boil at low heat. This broth has the flavour and jelly of the cod. • When the sauce gets a good thick consistency add the cod and keep on the fire at low heat, only enough time to heat.

Toyota S-FR coupe stars in quirky Toyota Tokyo Motor Show line-up Toyota will reveal the broadest line-up of concept and production cars at this month’s Tokyo Motor Show – from new showroom-bound compact sports cars to fuel-cell vehicles to quirky back-to-basics machines to production ready hybrids to robots. Heading the line-up will be the highly anticipated S-FR sports car. Standing for Small Front Engine, Rear-Drive, it’s 2+2 sports car that Toyota says will be its entry-level sports coupe. Toyota is remaining tight-lipped on performance, but we have it on good authority that the coupe will tip the scales at about 980kg and be powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine generating around 130bhp, putting it right in Mazda MX-5 territory. In fact, the S-FR is almost identical in size and curb weight to the mini Mazda. The S-FR is actually the lower end of a three-pronged sports car line-up that will include the 86 directly above it and the new Toyota-BMW co-developed Supra successor above that. Expected to be priced around £13,000 the S-FR will go on sale in early 2017 – and it could be sold globally including the UK. By unveiling the FCV Plus Concept at Tokyo, Toyota is putting its weight behind the burgeoning hydrogen movement. Earlier this year, Toyota became the first manufacturer to launch a production hydrogenpowered fuel-cell car in the Mirai. Looking more like a spaceship than a car, the FCV Plus is a four-seater vehicle with a more compact rearrangement of the Mirai’s fuelcell stack and hydrogen tanks.

Short for fuel-cell vehicle, the FCV Plus can also generate electricity enabling it to be used as a portable source of power for use at home or on location. When the car is parked, its electric power becomes part of the social infrastructure, supplying other vehicles or the local power grid. Toyota is not only trying to inject fun into motoring with the S-FR and some environmental consciousness with the FCV Plus, but it’s also questioning the way cars are made and the level of craftsmanship that goes into them. Enter the bare bones Kikai. Toyota has taken the machinery, normally hidden beneath the car’s body and brought it out into the open, making the function a component of the exterior. From the centrally positioned driver’s seat

surrounded by four analogue gauges, the pilot can see the suspension struts in motion through glassed viewports, and as Toyota puts it, get a more instinctive sensory connection with the vehicle. Incorporating the company’s TNGA – Toyota New Global Architecture – a new Prius will sit next to the C-HR concept. Boasting gains in weightsaving and extra body rigidity, the C-HR crossover made its first appearance at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The Prius’s sportier big brother will inherit the fuel-sipping model’s 1.8-litre hybrid powerplant, but will also be offered with a 1.2-litre turbo and a choice of two and four-wheel-drive layouts. Toyota also thinks the car, or its accessories, should talk to you, too. A 10cm tall robot called "Kirobo Mini” was created by Toyota to add value to its future cars by offering a robot that’s seemingly inspired by Astro Boy — a robot with a tender sympathetic heart that can carry on a basic conversation with a car’s occupants. It’s like a cross between Siri and R2D2 with a toned down Iron Man look. Also on display will a Yaris test mule that’s currently under development for Toyota’s World Rally Championship challenge.

Zenos confirms attendance at London Motor Show 2016

The British Motor Show is making a comeback next year, and it’s heading to the capital. Zenos Cars has confirmed it will be attending the London Motor Show, which opens its doors in May and more are expected to follow. Zenos, the newly formed startup run by ex-Caterham boss Ansar Ali, build a range of lightweight and affordable sports cars down the road from rivals, Lotus, in Norfolk. The base E10 uses a 2.0litre turbocharged Ford Ecoboost engine producting 200bhp, which in the 690kg

two seater is enough for 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. The more powerful E10 S gets another 50bhp, but the price still comes in at under £30,000. The London Motor Show, hosted in Battersea Park rather than the previous British Motor Show’s London ExCeL location, is aiming to join the ranks for Geneva, Paris and Frankfurt as one of Europe’s top showcases for new and exciting brands and models. Tickets will cost from £13, with the first press and public day on the 5th of May.

La Peña Madridista de Torrevieja, celebrated its 57th anniversary La Peña Madridista de Torrevieja held a special celebration on Saturday evening at the Hotel Masa International, for the 57th anniversary of this organization. The Peña Madridista is one of the oldest clubs not only in Valencia but throughout Spain, and the evening consisted of meal for members of the Real Madrid supporters club in general and an award ceremony. noted the number one socio was Eduardo Dolon, who narrated several anecdotes from many years ago that showed his experience and support for Real Madrid, a club be has had in his heart since he was eight years old . The event also served as a meeting with other Real Madrid clubs from Alicante, Murcia and other parts of Spain.

The event was attended by about fifty diners, divided into ten tables. In his speech, Tomás Roncero highlighted the "cunning" of the Whites that placed the dinners at tables according to the European Cup they won. Roncero's speech was an exaltation of Real Madrid, making a few veiled references to the Catalans, comparing the joy of being Madrid and energy that it prints with the apathy of "other" clubs that are put "sad" and crestfallen when having to pay their taxes. On behalf of the City of Torrevieja, sports councillor, Pablo Samper thanked all those attending. Since their parents were among those honoured as veteran members, the Deputy of the Provincial Government and the Costa Blanca Tourist Board, Councilman Eduardo Dolon was also present along with Councillor Javier Manzanares.

In less than two months, the Portuguese club Oporto has sold the number of shirts that were planning to sell throughout the entire season. The financial administrator of Porto, Fernando Gomes, said on Friday that the thousands of T-shirts with the number '12' of Iker Casillas had been "sold out in a few weeks", but confirmed that they had reordered more shirts of the Spanish goalkeeper for November. Gomes also said that "it was not something I expected." Never before has any player sold out the entire print run and reservations for the entire season within a month. He confirmed that "as new requests were made" for the shirt of the 34 year old goalkeeper by fans the order was sent to the

Torrevieja win Orihuela derby A two nil win at home for CD Torrevieja against local rivals Orihuela saw the home team gain three valuable points and send Orihuela into relatively unknown territory, as the Scorpions now find themselves hovering around the relegation zone rather than contesting for promotion. From the whistle, Torrevieja didn't waste any time in showing their commitment and intent as they ran down every ball and Orihuela under pressure. This first Vega Baja Darby (Crevillente aside) in the Third Division was always going to be a match of high intensity because of the importance of the three points at stake with Torrevieja sitting in 17th and Orihuela at 16th, with both wanting to climb out of the danger zone. The game took off in the seventh minute when Vicente Boix, sprinting down the right win had his cross/shot intercepted by the arm of Franco and a penalty was awarded. Caesar calmly became the first penalty taker of the season and for the second time this season, the men in blue and white actually took the lead in a game of football, as happened in their other victory against Muro. The first half passed without either side producing any clear chances but Torrevieja looked strongest and safe in midfield with a lot of great work pressuring Orihuela every time they had the ball, especially from Martin in the midfield, with Torrevieja always trying to launch a counterattack. Nothing changed at the beginning of the second half. Orihuela seemed to be devoid of any ideas as how to break down the Torrevieja defence and although they were slowly approaching the area, Torry goalkeeper Oscar never looked in much danger as their shooting was distant and harmless. Torrevieja seemed to turn off a little at the start of the second half and relied once again on the quick counterattack. Meanwhile the crowd urged Torrevieja on, with fingers crossed that the unthinkable would not happen and allow Orihuela somehow to score. With eleven minutes to go and the game in the balance, Torrevieja's two Croatian's combined when Brani received

a pass from Matej on the side of the area and moving towards the near post, he cut past two defenders before hitting the ball into the net on the other side. Two nil. The final frantic minutes were full of many faults, with Torry already celebrating victory and the visitors wishing the referee would signal the end of the game. After four additional minutes the derby ended in victory to CD Torrevieja, who took better advantage of their opportunities. CD Torrevieja move to fourteenth place with nine points and victory on Sunday afternoon may give them the confidence for the beginning of a fight back towards the play off positions. Meanwhile, Orihuela CF will have a tough week ahead and despite the confidence of the Directive towards Coach Gabriel Correa, the pressure is on. He insisted his position was safe regardless of the outcome of the derby, but many local supporters and journalists note that you should not be surprised to hear of the dismissal of the Uruguayan coach unless he can add some impetuous and an improvement in team play. This defeat puts Orihuela CF in sixteenth place with just seven points, just one away from the relegation zone but everything is always tight in this division and so they are only trailing a playoff position by ten points and are fifteen points behind leaders at. Saguntino. After nine games played and with one of the best squads in the 3rd Division there are certainly some negative feelings to be felt after the

derby. The pressure is on next Sunday at Los Arcos with the visit of Crevillente Dptvo with the Scorpions feeling the obligation to win but not wanting to finish the day in the relegation zone. No game at this level seems to be complete without a slew of yellow cards and Referee Cánovas García Villarrubia didn't disappoint, reaching double figures as he passed out the yellow cards to Torrevieja's Martin, Juanma, Jorge and Coach Antonio Pedroza while Orihuela went home with cards for Franco, Theo, Flequi, Maiqui Ruben and Chema. Club Deportivo Torrevieja: Óscar, Vicente Boix, Luis Carlos, Jorge, Quintero, Martín (Matej 77’), Sánchez, Carrasco, César (Juanfran 72’), Juanma and Adrián Banderas (Brani 66’). Those who did not play: Miguel Serna and Burguillos. Coach:

Antonio Pedreño Saura. Orihuela Club de Fútbol: Emilio, Álex, Franco (Coco 45’), Pastor, Flequi, Rubén, Maiqui, Theo (Quique 57’), Chema, Ernesto (Ginés 66’) and Juanjo. Didn't play: Adrián and Pablo. Coach: Carlos Gabriel Correa Viana. CD Torrevieja move up the table to 14th, which even with their dreadful start to the season is only 8 points off a play-off position. Next weekend Torrevieja have a tough game, away to Elche with the next home game, one of the glamour ties, against Castellon at the Estadio Vicente Garcia on the 25th October with the kick off at 5.00pm.

Football y Fútbol The International break has come to an end with Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Spain all going through, while the Republic of Ireland have to contest a playoff game and Scotland let in an injury time goal to dash their hopes of qualification. But the Internationals have taken their toil on some of the world's top players in both Europe and the Americas while others remain on the injury list. Ten major star players were injured playing for national teams last weekend. Juventus may have a reason to smile after star striker Alvaro Morata escaped with a slight fibula injury after fears that he might have broken his leg went viral. He was stretched off in the 4-0 win against Luxembourg. In recent weeks Chelsea fans have complained about Branislav Ivanovic continued inclusion in the starting eleven despite the fact that he has been very poor defensively this season. They might not have a reason to complain anymore after the Serbian Captain sustained a hamstring injury that will keep him out for several weeks. But Chelsea fans will hope Nemanja Matic injury is not serious after the Serbian left the pitch with a muscle problem in the clash against bitter rivals Albania. Though it does not serious, Juventus may have play the next game without their new number 10 Paul Pogba after the former Manchester United youngster injured his ankle in training ahead of the friendly game against Armenia. David Luiz, the former Chelsea defender may not be able to help PSG in the next few games after twisting his knee Paul Pogba

in vicious tackle between him and Chilean Eduardo Vargas. Brazil still lost the World Cup qualifier to COPA America champions. Manchester United fans may have a reason to see a victory against city rivals Manchester City after watching City star player David Silva limp off with an ankle injury in Spain 4-0 demolition of Luxembourg. He might be out for few weeks meaning he might miss the derby next week. Shortly after losing Bastian Schweinsteiger minutes before the game against Republic of Ireland, Germany fans witnessed their World Cup hero Mario Gotze carried off the pitch after tearing his adductor muscle. Bayern Munich will have to do without him for close to 12 weeks. Rafa Banitez will be forced to change his plans after star striker Karim Benzema pulled his hamstring in a friendly match against Armenia. Benzema scored twice in the match. He is expected to be out for three weeks. Ander Herrera may get a nod in Manchester United next league game against Everton after Schweinsteiger suffered an adductor injury in the run up to Germany clash with Republic of Ireland. World Champions lost the game 1-0. Manuel Pellegrini will hope new signings Raheem Sterling and Kevin Debruyne can start firing after the shocking news of Sergio Aguero hamstring injury that will keep him out for four weeks. Manchester derby set to take place next week will certainly make Pellegrini a worried man. Argentina lost 20 to Ecuador. Back home, Costa Blanca sometime resident Sam Allardyce, 60, who became Sunderland's latest manager last week, says he would still like to manage England. Allardyce is planning a return to one of his former clubs to sign West Ham centre-back James Tomkins, 26. Southend say they have had no contact with Sunderland regarding

Sam Allardyce

their manager Phil Brown, despite reports that Allardyce would like a reunion with his former assistant on Wearside. Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is being linked with a rapid return to management, by replacing Tim Sherwood at Aston Villa. Although he's been taking a sabbatical in Spain, there is absolutely no truth in the rumour that he was approached by CD Torrevieja. Tottenham, already monitoring the progress of Gent's Belgium international forward Laurent Depoitre, 26, who started and scored against Andorra on Saturday, are now monitoring the club's winger Moses Simon, 20. Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller, 26, has hinted the Premier League's money might eventually lure him to Manchester United according to the Manchester Evening News while new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has informed Liverpool that he wants to sign Porto midfielder Ruben Neves, 18. Southampton boss Ronald Koeman believes Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho should adopt a more attacking mentality - like his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger says the Daily Express. Barcelona's Dani Alves believes former team-mate Pedro should have stayed at the Nou Camp rather than join Chelsea. Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero, 27, has expressed his desire to play under Pep Guardiola, who has been tipped to become their new manager at the end of the season if he leaves Bayern Munich say the Daily Mirror while across town former England and Manchester United captain David Beckham says his new club in Miami should be up and running within six weeks - and plans to model it on Manchester United. And from those who just can't resist the lure of social media, following the Republic of Ireland's defeat in Poland, injured goalkeeper Shay Given tweeted: "Wasn't meant to be tonight, got to stay positive for next months play offs. Meanwhile Manchester United's Spain international goalkeeper David De Gea is in Kiev to play for his country against Ukraine on Monday, at the stadium where Spain won the 2012 European Championships. "Looking forward to play in a stadium that's part of the history of @sefutbol Last official game before the #Euro2016," he tweeted. Following news that Tim Krul will miss the rest of the season with ruptured knee ligaments, his Newcastle teammate Paul Dummett tweeted: "Sorry to hear the news @TimKrul hopefully we will be playing together again soon." Swansea boss Garry Monk, one of only two Premier Tim Krul

League managers on Twitter, took advantage of the international break with a trip to Chepstow races. He tweeted: "Great hospitality, enjoyed thanks!" And having replaced Brendan Rodgers as Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp is moving into his predecessor's former apartment, a £1.2m penthouse in Sefton Park for which he will pay £4,000 a month according to the Daily Mail. Chelsea are ready to back manager Jose Mourinho with a fresh move for Everton centre-back John Stones and Paris St-Germain defender Marquinhos, both 21, in January while Manchester United are prepared to sell defender Marcos Rojo, 25, in the January transfer window and replace him with 23-year-old Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi say the Manchester Evening News. Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina, 27, is set to be dropped for a number of key fixtures, including in the Champions League and could push for a loan move in January. New Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has told his players they must do things "one way, and that is my way" after being unveiled at Anfield. Liverpool chairman Tom Werner says Fenway Sports Group's ownership of the club will not be considered a success unless the club starts winning more silverware. Werner says former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was given ample time to improve results. Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood wants a greater say in transfers after head of recruitment Paddy Reilly and Ramiro Funes Mori

sporting director Hendrik Almstadt recommended deals in the summer note the Daily Mirror while Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori, 24, is confident he will be fit to face Manchester United - despite facing a 6,000-mile journey just days before the game, after being on international duty with Argentina. Crystal Palace hope to sign Ballymena striker Matthew Shevlin, 16, despite having a bid rejected. The Northern Ireland youngster has impressed manager Alan Pardew during training sessions with the club. The Football Association of Ireland is set to open contract negotiations with manager Martin O'Neill after they moved to the verge of qualification for next summer's European Championship finals. And more from the world of social media and it's Canadian Justin Bieber who tweeted a message of congratulations to the team and his "brother Keano" after their Euro 2016 qualifying win over world champions Germany. Bieber then posted a video of Robbie Keane and the squad listening to him on their team bus after their victory. Liverpool's retail department wasted no time in putting new manager Jurgen Klopp's quote about being the "normal one" on a T-shirt while former Manchester United keeper Peter Schmeichel ?responded on Twitter to a quote from new Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp saying he will win a title within four years: "First mistake..?? Others have made the same promise #It'sNotThatEasyMrKlopp" And in the 'what a surprise' section: Englishman Keith Armstrong was sacked as manager of Finnish side FC Ilves after the 57-year-old spent a Sunday afternoon analysing a day of Premier League fixtures on television rather than taking charge of a league game.
