Victoria Wood RIP

Award winning Comedian, actress, singer-songwriter, screenwriter, director, Victoria Wood CBE passed away on Wednesday at the tender age of 62 after a short battle with Cancer. Wood wrote and starred in sketches, plays, films and sitcoms, and her live comedy act was interspersed with her own compositions, which she performed on piano. Wood also composed and performed the theme music for her BBC sitcom Dinnerladies. Much of her humour was grounded in everyday life, and included references to popular British media and brand names of quintessentially British products. She was noted for her skills in observing culture, and in satirising social classes.

Wood started her career in 1974 by winning the ATV talent show New Faces. She began to establish herself as a comedy star in the 1980s, with the award-winning television series Victoria Wood as Seen on TV and became one of Britain's most popular stand-up comics. In 1998, she wrote and starred in the award-winning sitcom Dinnerladies. In 2006, she won two BAFTA awards for her one-off drama for ITV1, Housewife, 49. Wood frequently worked with long-term collaborators Julie Walters, Duncan Preston and Celia Imrie. Wood began her show business career while an undergraduate, appearing on the TV talent show New Faces. This led to her appearance in a sketch show featuring the winners of that series, The Summer Show. Her act was described by one of the judges' panel as "like a female Jake Thackray" (a guitarist who performed comic songs in a lugubrious Northern accent). Her break was as a novelty act on the BBC's consumer affairs programme That's Life! In 1976. Later that year, her sketch show Victoria Wood as Seen on TV went into production. This time, Wood chose actors herself: her friend Julie Walters once again starred, as did Duncan Preston. Wood's friend Celia Imrie was also cast, as well as Susie Blake and Patricia Routledge. Wood's most popular comic song, "The Ballad of Barry and Freda (Let's Do It)", originated in this show. It tells the story of Freda (a woman eager for sex) and Barry (an introverted man terrified of sex), makes clever use of allusions to a multitude of risquĂŠ activities while avoiding all taboo words. There was a second series of Victoria Wood as Seen on TV in 1986, followed by a one-off 'special' in 1987. In 1988, she appeared in the BAFTA-winning An Audience with Victoria Wood for ITV. At the time of recording the show, Wood was six months pregnant. Over the following decades she was involved in

numerous projects and far too many to cover here. In 1994, Wood starred in the one-off BBC 80-minute programme Victoria Wood: Live in Your Own Home. Her first sitcom, Dinnerladies (1998), continued her now established milieu of mostly female, mostly middleaged characters depicted vividly and amusingly, but with a counterpoint of sadder themes. December 2000 saw the Christmas sketch show special Victoria Wood with All the Trimmings, featuring her regular troupe of actors as well as a string of special guest stars. However, it was during this period that Wood tended to move away from comedy, focusing on drama instead. She did continue to produce one-off specials, though, including Victoria Wood's Sketch Show Story (2002) and Victoria Wood's Big Fat Documentary (2005). In January 2007, she appeared as herself in a series of new adverts featuring famous people working for supermarket chain Asda. Wood was also the subject of an episode of The South Bank Show in March 2007, and is the only woman to be the subject of two South Bank programmes (the previous occasion was in September 1996). Wood appeared in her own travel documentary show on BBC One called Victoria's Empire, in which she travelled around the world in search of the history, cultural impact and customs the British Empire placed on the parts of the world it ruled. Wood returned to stand-up comedy with a special performance written for the celebratory show Happy Birthday BAFTA on 28 October 2007, alongside other household names. The programme was transmitted on ITV1 on Wednesday 7 November 2007. On Boxing Day 2007 she appeared as "Nana" in the Granada dramatization of Noel Streatfeild's novel Ballet Shoes. In December 2007, while she was the guest on the radio programme Desert Island Discs, Wood said that she was about to begin writing a film, described as a contemporary comedy about a middle-aged person, marking her first foray into film. On Thursday, 12 June 2008, Wood was part of the celebrity guest panel on the series The Apprentice: You're Fired! on BBC Two. In June 2009, Wood appeared as a panellist on the first two episodes of the new series of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue. Wood returned to television comedy for a one-off Christmas sketch-show special, her first in nine years, titled Victoria Wood's Mid Life Christmas, transmitted on BBC One at 21:00 on Christmas Eve 2009. On New Year's Day 2011 Wood appeared in a BBC drama Eric and Ernie as Sadie Bartholomew, mother of Eric Morecambe. In early 2015, Wood took part in a celebrity version of The Great British Bake Off for Comic Relief and was crowned Star Baker in her episode. She co-starred with Timothy Spall in Sky television's 3-part television adaptation of Fungus the Bogeyman, which was first shown on 27, 28 & 29 December 2015. Wood received many awards in her long career. In 1997, she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List. Clubs and Associations Day May 24th On Tuesday May 24th Torrevieja will once again offer an Associations Day. It's an opportunity for Torrevieja and neighbouring clubs, groups associations and interested parties to meet with each other. Associations Day will offer a one stop shop for local residents who would like to become involved in volunteering or joining a social, performance or sports club. Each association will be there with their informative tables, with a few also selling items to raise funds. Torrevieja is one of the most active expat municipalities in Spain when it comes to groups, associations, hobby clubs, sports, performance and leisure groups and the like, however their existence is often overlooked by local authorities and so this is one of the few chances to meet with different associations at the one time and under the same roof. The shocking news was confirmed by Prince's publicist after reports that police were investigating a death at his Paisley Park compound outside Minneapolis. News of Prince's death emerged after police said Thursday that they were investigating a death at his compound in Chanhassen, Minn., with the Carver County Sheriffs' Department saying that deputies were on the scene. The department said via a statement, "When deputies and medical personnel arrived, they found an unresponsive adult male in the elevator. First responders attempted to provide lifesaving CPR, but were unable to revive the victim. He was pronounced deceased at 10:07 am." Prince was just 19 when he released his first album, putting out For You in 1978. In the decades that followed, he went on to develop a unique sound and

James Bond Director Guy Hamilton, 93, Dies In Spanish Island In a statement released to The Associated Press, the hospital Juaneda Miramar in the city of Palma de Mallorca, Spain confirmed that Hamilton died on April 20, Wednesday. The hospital in the Spanish island in the western Mediterranean, on which the late director of James Bond films lived, did not disclose the cause of death and other details of the late director’s hospitalization. In a statement obtained by BBC News, James Bond film producers EON have paid tribute. In the statement, they said, “We mourn the loss of our dear friend Guy Hamilton who firmly distilled the Bond formula in his much celebrated direction of ‘Goldfinger’ and continued to entertain audiences with ‘Diamonds are Forever,’ ‘Live and Let Die’ and ‘The Man with the Golden Gun.’” EON also stated that they celebrate the “enormous contribution” of Hamilton to the James Bond films. The late director worked with Sean Connery in

“Goldfinger” and “Diamonds are Forever” and with Roger Moore in “Live and Let Die”, and “The Man with the Golden Gun.” The last feature film Hamilton directed was “Try This One for Size”, which was released in France on September 27, 1989. The comedy crime film was starred by Michael Brandon, Arielle Dombasle, David Carradine, Guy Marchand, Mario Adorf, Peter Bowles, Harold Innocent, Edward Meeks, and Valerie Steffen, among others. In 2006, Hamilton directed a documentary titled “On Location with ‘The Man with the Golden Gun.’” It featured Moore, Michael G. Wilson, Christopher Lee, Britt Ekland, Albert R. Broccolli and himself, among others. In 1961, Hamilton received his first and only BAFTA Film Award nomination. Along with Roger MacDougall and Ivan Foxwell, the late director was nominated for Best British Screenplay for “A Tough of Larceny.”

'Game of Thrones' Boosts Tourism in Tiny Spanish Town

While Jon Snow sadly didn’t come back from the dead (...yet?), a tiny Spanish town did, thanks to Game of Thrones. Osuna, in the southern province of Seville, welcomed the film crew to its picturesque landscape in 2014—and ever since, it's been filled with tourists. Although it is home to the secondmost-beautiful street in all of Europe, according to UNESCO, and has been around for 3,000 years, the stunning spot faced economic troubles starting in 2008, after many of its residents moved to larger cities. But the creators of the HBO hit series thought it would be the perfect setting for Westeros. The show hired hundreds of local extras and made use of places like Osuna's bull ring.

Once word got out Game of Thrones was in the area, tourism spiked, bringing life back to the town of just 18,000 residents. “The bars are so packed you can’t even find a place to have a drink,” mayor Rosario Andújar Torrejón said. “Everyone has noticed— there are a lot of tourists. Even Americans, which we never saw before. Some used to joke that Americans didn’t know where Spain was. But they’ve found it, and more importantly, they’ve found Osuna.” Other filming locations, like Croatia, Malta, and Northern Ireland, have all experienced a similar boost after Game of Thrones came to town. Perhaps there's magic after all.

Spanish police arrest 'ISIS collaborator plotting Europe terror attacks' in Majorca Police on a popular holiday island for Brits have arrested a suspected Islamic State collaborator. Majorca officers accuse the man - an unnamed suspect who was born in Morocco - of promoting terror attacks in Europe. He is also accused of having close links with leaders of the terrorist organisation ISIS who are based in Syria and Iraq. Officers raided a property in the holiday island’s capital Palma this morning to make the arrest. Spanish Interior Ministry officials said the police operation had permitted “the rapid neutralisation of a direct threat” and described the suspect as a “threat to national security.” The operation was coordinated by a judge at Spain’s national criminal court, the Audiencia Nacional, in conjunction with state prosecutors. A statement released by the Interior Ministry, in which it referred to ISIS by its acronym Daesh , said: “The detainee, a Moroccan man resident in Palma, had a close relationship with the terrorist organisation Daesh. “He represented a clear threat to national security given that he used

the Internet to actively convince vulnerable people he had previously selected. “He sent out radical messages directed towards recruiting new yihadists and promoted and facilitated their journeys to zones of conflict so they could join Daesh ’s ranks. “He also, in smaller groups and to a more selected audience, directed his efforts towards facilitating the commission of terrorist actions in Spain and other European countries. “The investigation has shown that the suspect maintained close links with well-known terrorist leaders currently based in Syria and working for the terror organisation Daesh , whose job it was to facilitate the arrival of new combatants to war zones as well as providing instructions and resources to carry

out terror attacks in Spain or other European countries. “The police operation, which has permitted the rapid neutralisation of a direct threat, remains open.” Last week police in Malaga arrested an alleged arms trafficker accused of supplying Paris gunman Amedi Coulibaly with weapons. A judge agreed to extradite Frenchman Antoine Denive, 27, on Monday. The 55-year-old woman, who has been named as Concha M. N, was discovered in an "unfrequented" area of the cinema in Valencia, on Spain's east coast, on Tuesday. She may have "passed out, fallen and died" when she went to see a film on April 12th, seven days before she was discovered, said the representative of the regional Valencian government, Juan Carlos Moragues. The woman’s body was discovered by a cleaner "between two emergency doors, where there are some stairs" Moragues confirmed, referring to an underground area of the ABCPark cinema in Valencia. The cleaner noticed a "strong smell" and when she opened the door she found the body in an advanced stage of decomposition. Alongside the body the cleaner found a bag and a pair of glasses. The woman was reported missing by her husband on Wednesday, April 13th. "We suspect that she has been dead for one week. There were some bloodstains on the stairs. She could have fainted, fallen and died at this moment," he said. An autopsy was due to be carried out on Wednesday to determine the cause of the woman’s death. Sources close to the investigation told local newspaper Levante that the woman's death was caused by a fall down the stairs.

Back Stage with ANDY WINWOOD Who are you and what do you do? I’m Andy Winwood and I’m a solo guitar/vocal entertainer, also half of ‘That’s Life!’ duo with my partner Heather. She and I are also members of ‘Time Team’ Band. How did you start in the business? I started playing in folk clubs in the ’80s and soon found out that if you could sing in tune, play 3 chords on the guitar and had a drum machine you could go out and earn up to 30 quid a night! I thought: “Hey I can do that!”…. so I did. What would you be doing if you were not an entertainer? I’m a qualified driving instructor so would probably still be doing that. As an entertainer who has been your biggest influence? There’s been so many but, musically above all, I would say James Taylor. Do you ever get nervous or have you suffered stage fright? In a word: Yes. What was your best moment? Apart from meeting Heather when I was gigging on a ship (diplomacy alert!!!), it was probably in 1997 when I was facing redundancy and had decided to turn pro. I had sent tapes (it was the ‘90s!), photos and CVs to just about everyone with virtually zero response. One morning the phone rang and it was a top entertainment agent asking if I would be interested in working with him. Not surprisingly I was. We worked together for many years. He’s retired now but I’ll always be grateful he took a chance on me when nobody else wanted to know. What has been your worst moment? Hmm there’s been a few of those but I’ll go for 1994 when I was in a trio supporting Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen in front of several hundred people. I was desperate to make a good impression but the lead guitarist was so loud I couldn’t hear myself sing. Now any

singer knows that if you can’t hear yourself it’s very hard to stay in tune. During the interval the agent took the other two aside and said that I was not to sing in the second spot as I couldn’t sing in tune and furthermore he would never work with the two of them again unless they got rid of me. Not the greatest confidence-booster in the world. Took me months to get it back again. What’s the best piece of advice you have received or would give someone starting out in the business? I have received much good advice over the years. The best I can give is that talent alone is just not enough. You will only get to any sort of reasonable level by sheer hard work and persistence (and a thick skin). I would say for most of us it’s 10% talent, 90% hard work. Even for people at the very top of the tree it’s probably 20-80. Any little anecdotes or interesting stories? I was working on a ship and a very well-known and popular duo were appearing (not going to name them). 5 minutes before they were due on stage the assistant cruise director found them still in their cabin pi**ed out of their skulls. One of them had to be physically helped onto the stage. We were all amazed because their performance was vocally and instrumentally absolutely note-perfect! Not even a hint of slurring when they talked between songs. When they’d finished they went back to their cabin and carried on boozing. They were true pros and real gents as well. Spiced veggie rice with poached eggs Ingredients • 7-8 spring onions • 2 cloves of garlic • 2 fresh red chillies • rapeseed or olive oil • 2 fresh bay leaves • 4 whole cardamom pods • 3 teaspoons coriander seeds • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric • 300 g basmati rice • 400 g leftover roast veg , such as parsnips, beetroots, potatoes • 6 medium free-range eggs • 1 splash of white wine vinegar • 200 g leftover cooked green veg • 1 bunch of fresh flat-leaf parsley • 1 bunch of fresh mint • 2 limes • 1 pomegranate Method Preheat the oven to 180C/gas 4. Heat a good glug of oil in a large, ovenproof pan. Add the spring onions, garlic and bay leaf, and cook over a low heat for 10

minutes, until the spring onions are soft and sweet. Bash the cardamom pods and coriander seeds with a pestle and mortar and add to the pan with the cumin, turmeric, chilli and a couple of hearty pinches of salt. Stir for 3–4 minutes over a medium heat, until the spices are fragrant. Increase the heat, add the rice and a little more oil if needed and stir to coat in the spices. Pour over about 800ml of cold water – you want it to come about 1cm above the rice. Pop the lid on and put the pan into the oven for 25 minutes. While the rice is cooking, put the root veg on a baking tray, drizzle with oil, season and pop into the oven to warm up for the last 10 minutes. Meanwhile poach your eggs. Place a shallow pan of water over a medium heat, add a splash of vinegar and, once simmering, break in the eggs and cook for 2–3 minutes. Once the veg and rice are done, remove them from the oven and stir them together. Mix through the greens, herbs and lime juice. Pile the mixture into bowls, top each one with a poached egg, and serve with the pomegranate seeds scattered on top.

Hit ‘n’ run traybaked chicken Ingredients • 4 large ripe tomatoes • 2 red onions • 1 red pepper • 1 yellow pepper • 6 skinless, boneless free-range chicken thighs • 4 cloves of garlic • 1/2 bunch of fresh thyme • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar Method Everyone needs a hit ’n’ run recipe like this – it’s the kind of fallback meal you can enjoy when prep time isn’t on your side. It’s simply a case of putting together a combination of ingredients that really love each other, then just tearing, mixing, marinating and baking. It’s super quick to prepare, and you’re letting the oven do all the work.

Preheat the oven to 180ºC/350ºF/gas 4. Quarter the tomatoes and place them in a large baking dish or roasting tray (roughly 25cm x 30cm). Peel the onions and cut into large wedges, then deseed and roughly chop the peppers. Add all these to the tray along with the chicken thighs. Squash the unpeeled garlic cloves with the back of your knife and add to the tray, then pick over the thyme leaves and sprinkle over the paprika. Add the oil, balsamic and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Toss everything together really well to coat, then spread across the tray, making sure the chicken isn’t covered by the vegetables. Roast for around 1 hour, or until the chicken is golden and cooked through, turning and basting it a couple of times during cooking with the juices from the tray. Serve the traybake with a lovely green salad on the side. You could also buddy it up with a little rice, polenta or a loaf of crusty bread to mop up the juices.

Ginger & honey chicken wings Ingredients • 25 higher-welfare chicken wings • Ginger and honey marinade • 5 spring onions , finely sliced • 5 tbsp honey • 2 tbsp soy sauce • 1 red chilli , sliced • 1-2 cm piece of ginger , grated • 4-5 sprigs of thyme , leaves picked Method Mix all the marinade ingredients in a bowl to make a sticky sauce. Place the chicken wings in a single layer in a wide, shallow, nonreactive dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, cover with clingfilm and place in the fridge to marinate for 24 hours. Heat your barbecue or griddle pan until hot. Cook the wings for 15–20 minutes, turning often, until dark and the juices run clear when the chicken is pierced with a skewer. If cooking on a griddle, finish the wings in the oven at 180C/gas 4 for 10– 15 minutes to ensure they’re cooked through.

Easy jerk chicken with rice & peas Ingredients • 2 tbsp sunflower oil • 1kg chicken thighs and drumsticks • 1 bottle jerk barbecue sauce (Levi Roots or Walkerswood from Waitrose) • 1 bunch spring onions, sliced For the rice and peas • 200g basmati rice • 2 x 410g cans kidney beans • 400g can coconut milk • 1 bunch spring onions, chopped • 1 thyme sprig • 1 garlic clove, chopped • 1 tsp allspice Method 1. Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. Heat the oil in a roasting tin, then carefully add the chicken pieces. Brown them lightly on all sides – it will take about 6-8 mins. Pour over the jerk sauce, scatter over the sliced spring onions, then toss to coat each piece of chicken. 2. Roast the chicken for 30 mins, turning occasionally to ensure it gets nice and sticky. 3. While the chicken is cooking, make the rice & peas. Rinse the rice in a sieve until the water runs clear. Bring a pan of water to the boil with the liquid only from the kidney beans, the coconut milk, spring onions, thyme, garlic, allspice and some salt, then simmer for 10 mins. Add the beans, then simmer for 5 mins more until the rice is tender. Drain and serve straight away with the chicken.

Stamps to mark Queen's 90th Birthday

To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen's 90th birthday a specially commissioned stamp sheetlet and cover will be released by Isle of Man Post Office on 21 April 2016, complementing the recently launched stamp collection titled "Long to Reign Over Us". The special cover and sheetlet will be released with a birthday wish from The Sun's royal photographer, Arthur Edwards MBE, to the Queen. Both items incorporate a selection of photographs taken by the renowned photographer on the 20th April 2016 during the Queen's birthday celebrations in Windsor, together with two of the post office's favourite stamps from the "Long to Reign Over Us" collection; the 77p stamp depicting a stunning image of the Queen at the State Banquet in 2011 and the 93p stamp featuring an image of the Queen from her Golden Jubilee tour in 2002. In addition, the special cover features a unique postmark celebrating the date and has a bespoke birthday greeting. Arthur, who has travelled the world for 40 years photographing the Queen, says: "It's a great honour to be taking pictures for such a super souvenir to mark the Queen's birthday." He continues: "I've brought every lens I own to Windsor to make sure I get the perfect picture of this special day for this

collection." Shakespeare’s Schoolroom opens to the Public The opening of Shakespeare’s Schoolroom and Guildhall as a new world-class heritage attraction will provide the missing chapter of the story of William Shakespeare’s life in Stratford – his education and his inspiration to act and write. Visitors will be able to experience the place, not far from his birthplace, where Shakespeare was educated and inspired to become the world’s greatest playwright, and to learn of the extraordinary history of the building and the civic history of the town. With over 400 years of involvement in the social and religious aspects of the town – including Shakespeare’s father’s leading role in the council – there are plenty of stories to uncover. An engaging, interactive and fun visitor experience including soundscapes, projections, two films and browsing panels will be on offer and Guides will be on hand with many anecdotes to bring Shakespeare’s story and those of the Guildhall to life. Built in 1420, The Guildhall, described by historian and broadcaster, Michael Wood, as ‘one of the most atmospheric, magical and important

buildings in the whole of Britain’, is one of only a dozen surviving examples of a late medieval provincial Guildhall. It is home to a series of extremely rare medieval wall paintings, showing the seal of the Guild of the Holy Cross. Between now and April the building will undergo major restoration. This major restoration and conservation programme has been made possible by a £1.4million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Specific volunteer roles has been developed for the project, including front of house positions in which volunteers will welcome visitors from across the world and they are looking for enthusiastic and passionate people to join their team. Wireless electric car charging system revealed in the US A wireless charging system has been unveiled in the US that has the potential to match the power output of plug-powered fast-chargers and is capable of charging electric cars on the go. The 20kW wireless charging system, which is already around three times faster than some plug-in alternatives, has been developed over the past three years by the government-backed Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) with Toyota, Cisco Systems, Clemson University and Evatran. The system has been demonstrated with a Toyota RAV4 fitted with an additional 10kWh battery, with

energy transferred from a transmitting plate in the ground to a receiving plate underneath the front of the car, from where it is then transferred to the battery. “We now have a technology that is moving closer to being ready for the market,” said Madhu Chinthavali, ORNL power electronics team leader. ORNL says its next target, along with developing the system’s ability to charge a vehicle in motion, is to up the system's output to produce 50kW, which would match the power of some plug-powered high-speed charging stations. Wireless charging of electric vehicles in motion is something which is being developed with a focus on commercial vehicles rather than passenger cars, ORNL says. Commercial EVs, such as buses, which travel on regular routes and stop at predetermined intervals, would benefit most from wireless charging systems integrated into the road, charging them on the move and also when stationary at bus stops. The cost of implementing the system is a drawback to more widespread use, though, as it could cost up to $2 million (£1.4m) per mile to

incorporate the system into roads, according to ORNL, and the system is still some years away from being implemented. The institute, which benefited from vehicles and guidance from Toyota in the system's development, expects to reach its 50kW target this year, but it would take a minimum of a100kW system to make wireless charging viable for bigger commercial vehicles. The fastest charging station currently is Tesla’s Supercharger, which is capable of delivering up to 120kW and an 80% charge in 30 minutes, while the slowest three-point plug 3kW chargers take around 6-8 hours to deliver a full charge. Wireless charging systems are set to be tested in the UK, with the government committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050, and Nissan has outlined its plans to implement such a system for its cars.

Audi 'building a midengined R6 sports car'

Audi is rumoured to be working on a new mid-engined sports car to bridge the gap between its TT models and its flagship R8 supercar. Motoring journalists have picked up a report from German magazine Auto Bild and rounded on the prospect of an Audibadged equivalent of the Porsche Boxster. According to Motor 1, it's a rumour that has been circulated "plenty of times", so should be taken with a grain of salt, regardless of the legitimacy of the source. The site adds that Auto Bild expects the car to be developed in co-operation with Volkswagen group stablemate Porsche and that it will eventually form part of a new "R" family of Audi highperformance cars. As for the name, the German mag expects it to take on the R6 moniker, logically placing it underneath the firm's R8. It's currently known within Audi circles under the internal codename PO455. No exact technical details are provided, but it's thought the sports car will be based on the next-generation Boxster, although with different power

units and an Audi all-wheel drive system. While this all seems plausible from a technical point of view, Jalopnik isn't convinced Audi will find good reason to introduce a rival to the Porsche car. First and foremost, the website proclaims the Volkswagen group is the "king of vaporware sports cars" that never seem to come to fruition thanks to a dwindling worldwide market for such models. Autobild sees it differently, though, and rather than introducing an unnecessary car, an Audi model spawned from a Boxster platform would help spread the costs of developing the next 718 Boxster's platform around. It adds that both a soft-top and fixed roof Cayman equivalent will be made. Nevertheless, Jalopnik also warns caution over the rumours, as "desirable as this sports car would be it's hard to imagine the increasingly cash-strapped VW Group going for it over yet another crossover". The reports appear to be separate from calls late last year that the firm's R8 supercar will downsize and use a twinturbocharged V6 engine from 2018.

Match made in heaven: Subaru and Prodrive team up for TT record attempt Subaru USA is looking to smash the lap record on four wheels around the Isle of Man TT course – and it’s enlisted rally legends Prodrive and Subaru Technica International to help it do just that. The brands will combine their extensive motorsports knowledge to produce a

purpose-built WRX STI, designed specifically for getting around the high-speed circuit in a short a time as possible. The TT course is famous for its week-long bike races each year but Subaru, who already hold the record for the highest average speed for a car around the circuit, want to close the gap

between driver and twowheeled daredevil. You aren’t wrong. Back when Subaru was a household name in rallying, Prodrive worked with it and Subaru Technica Internationa to deliver the engineering and finished product that led to three World Rally Championship

Manufacturer titles and three World Rally Championship driver titles. So this is hardly a haphazard attempt for the record. Rally driver Mark Higgins will be back behind the wheel of the modified WRX STI for yet another attempt at beating the record. You may remember back in 2014 when he lapped the TT course at an average lap speed of 117.51mph in a virtually stock WRX STI, smashing the previous 115.36mph record (watch the video below). Modifications then included suspension tweaks to deal with the demands of the course, sticky Dunlop Direzza tyres, and

a roll cage and a fire extinguisher - just in case. Subaru of America’s national manager of product communications, Dominick Infante, said: ‘This is one of the most amazing road courses in the world and the Isle of Man TT is one of the most exciting races of the year. Ronny resigns from Celtic CELTIC Football Club today announced that Celtic Manager Ronny Deila has decided to leave the Club at the end of the season. Ronny has already led Celtic to a League and Cup double last season and is currently aiming to deliver Celtic's fifth consecutive Premiership title. Ronny Deila said: "It is vital that the Club comes first and instead of me being the focus, hopefully now the team and the Club can be the focus as we enter this final important period of the season. "It was an absolute privilege to be named manager of Celtic, such a wonderful football club, and I have enjoyed my time here immensely. I will never forget the welcome I received almost two years ago at Celtic Park from so many fans. When I joined Celtic I knew I was coming to one of the world's great football clubs. "There have been some great times and I am delighted that we have brought some trophies to the Club. I was delighted in my first year to bring our fans a League and Cup double and enjoy some European nights at Celtic Park, and I am pleased this season to be well in contention to win another Premiership title. There have been some disappointments and times when we have not achieved what we had hoped for and I'm realistic and honest enough to admit that, but I know that the players, myself and my back-room team have always given everything we had to bring success to our supporters.” "I would like to thank everyone who has supported me so well at the Club. The fans have been magnificent during the past two years. Our fans are the heartbeat of the Club, they have always given myself and the team such amazing support and always created such a great atmosphere.
