On the weekend of 26th/27th November 2016; Torrevieja Christian Fellowship (TCF) www.tcf-spain.org will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of its inauguration in 1991. To mark the occasion, a special social event (including a buffet and light-hearted entertainment) will be held on Saturday 26th November – for those who regularly attend TCF, and other invitees. This will be followed by a great celebratory Service on Sunday 27th November – to which everyone is invited. Simon Foster (Elim Churches UK) will be the guest speaker at both events. A bit of history: In the late 1980’s before TCF was registered as a Church; a number of people used to meet together for worship at the Fontana Hotel in Torrevieja on Thursday nights. The people later met for a while at Mil Palmeras. TCF was officially registered with the Spanish Government in November 1991.

After a few other temporary locations; the Church eventually rented premises on Calle Zoa; and grew steadily. After about 7 years, the Church had outgrown that location; as between 70 and 80 people were gathering regularly. In 1999, TCF moved to new rented premises at Calle San Luis 20; near the Park of Nations. The Church continued to grow under the ministry of John and Doreen Jessop who came from Ware in the UK – to the point where two services were needed each Sunday to accommodate the total congregation which would sometimes number about 150 people.

In 2008; after the retirement of John and Doreen; Roy and Wendy Davies relocated from Glynneath in South Wales to lead the Church. After holding the Sunday services in Restaurant salons for a while (Asturias and Los Arcos); TCF moved to the present beautiful premises on Avenida de las Cortes Valencianas, in October 2009. The Church continues to grow; with more than 200 people attending on a regular basis; and up to 400 on special occasions. The church hosts Conferences, Concerts, Carol Services; plus the regular Sunday Service at 10:30 am (with Kids Church and communion), and a Fellowship meeting each Wednesday at 6:00 pm. TCF has a great history – and we are believing for an even greater future: Sheila Newton (nee Astley) was a missionary, and founder-member of TCF. She said: “Little did I know when I came to Spain in 1988 to work with the ex patriot community to tell them about the love of Jesus, that from starting a women’s coffee morning, we would grow and move premises more than three times and after registering the church in 1991 resulting in the establishing of the church we see today!” The current pastor, Roy Davies, said: “TCF now has a wonderful church venue that is a blessing to all who come through the doors. It is truly amazing that from Sheila’s vision for a Torrevieja church more than 25 years ago; are now holding Services with attendances often exceeding 200 people; and a website ministry reaching a potentially vast number. But there are still so many people who need to know and experience the presence and love of God – so we are still on a mission to reach them with the Good News of the Gospel.” And after more than eight years of very happy and fruitful ministry at TCF; Pastor Roy will be retiring in April 2017. Donald Trump President-Elect
Donald John Trump was probably best known for his real estate deals and playing Mr. Nasty on the US version of The Apprentice to UK and Irish audiences, until he decided to stand as President of the USA in 2015. The American businessman, reality television personality, and politician who is President-elect of the United States as well as chairman and president of The Trump Organization, the principal holding company for his real estate ventures and other business interests. During his career, Trump has built office towers, hotels, casinos, golf courses, and other branded facilities worldwide. He was elected as the 45th U.S. president in the 2016 election, defeating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, and will take office on January 20, 2017. At 70 years old, Trump will be the oldest person to assume the presidency. Trump was born and raised in New York City and received a bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1968. In 1971 he was given control of his father Fred Trump's real estate and construction firm and later renamed it The Trump Organization, rising to public prominence shortly thereafter. Trump has appeared at the Miss USA pageants, which he owned from 1996 to 2015, and has made cameo appearances in films and television series. He sought the Reform Party presidential nomination in 2000, but withdrew before voting began. He hosted and co-produced The Apprentice, a reality television series on NBC, from 2004 to 2015. As of 2016, he was listed by Forbes as the 324th wealthiest person in the
world, and 156th in the United States, with a net worth of $3.7 billion in October 2016. In June 2015, Trump announced his candidacy for president as a Republican and quickly emerged as the front-runner for his party's nomination. In May 2016, his remaining Republican rivals suspended their campaigns, and in July he was formally nominated for president at the 2016 Republican National Convention. Trump's campaign received unprecedented media coverage and international attention. Many of his statements in interviews, on Twitter, and at campaign rallies have been controversial or false. Several rallies during the primaries were accompanied by protests or riots. On October 7, a 2005 audio recording surfaced in which Trump bragged about forcibly kissing and groping women or being able to do so; multiple women accused him of similar conduct shortly thereafter. He apologized for the 2005 comments and denied the allegations, describing them as part of a wider smear campaign. Trump's platform included renegotiation of U.S.–China trade deals, opposition to particular trade agreements such as NAFTA and the TransPacific Partnership, stronger enforcement of immigration laws together with building a wall along the U.S.–Mexico border, reform of veterans' care, repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act, and tax cuts. Following the November 2015 Paris attacks, Trump called for a temporary ban on Muslim immigration, later stating that the ban would focus instead on countries with a proven history of terrorism, until the screening for potential terrorists is improved.
In what was probably a surprise to most onlookers, on November 8, 2016, Trump won the presidency with 306 electoral votes to 232 received by Clinton. Trump became the fourth U.S. candidate to win the presidency despite receiving fewer votes than his opponent. Trump's victory was seen as one of the biggest political upsets in American history, as nearly all polls at the time showed Hillary Clinton with a modest lead over Trump. This was later attributed to pollsters overestimating Clinton's support among well-educated and nonwhite voters, while underestimating Trump's support among white working-class voters. Trump's win simultaneously marked the first time that Republicans gained control over both the White House and Congress since 2006. In the early hours of November 9, 2016, Trump received a phone call in which Clinton conceded the presidency to him. Trump then delivered his victory speech before hundreds of supporters in the Hilton Hotel in New York City. The speech was in stark contrast with his previous rhetoric, with Trump promising to heal the division caused by the election, thanking Clinton for her service to the country, and promising to be a president to all Americans. The following day, Trump had a first-time meeting with President Obama to discuss plans for a peaceful transition of power. The meeting was notably cordial, with the The New York Times stating: 'It was an extraordinary show of cordiality and respect between two men who have been political enemies and are stylistic opposites."

Hollywood and History in Valencia By Bob Yareham Hollywood and History is a project that has now been running for three years and is designed to use the many English language films made in Spain (over 700) to give students an idea about some of the major events that have shaped the world. Films such as Ridley Scott’s Exodus (and his 1492), Richard Burton’s Alexander the Great, Kirk Douglas’s Spartacus, Samuel Bronston’s Fall of the Roman Empire, El Cid and 55 Days at Peking, Richard Harris’s Cromwell and Olivier’s Richard III; Patton, Doctor Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, Green Zone; all made partly or wholly in Spain. The list is a never-ending story of opportunities to help students understand in one session the chronology of events, and most importantly, to know, thanks to Raquel Welch’s '1,000 BC', that people never coexisted with dinosaurs. The activity includes a guided tour in English of L’Iber Museum. The number of museums in Valencia has grown considerably in recent years, L’Iber is an outstanding example, housing the largest collection of toy soldiers in the world; over a million. The L’Iber Museum in the medieval ‘Barrio del Carmen’ is situated in the Palace of Malferit (which rather appropriately means ‘badly wounded’) in Calle Caballeros 20, and is dedicated to toy soldiers and other similar toys. It is the brainchild of Alejandro Noguera, an archaeologist whose father, Álvaro Noguera Giménez was a Vice President of Banco de Valencia and a founder of El Pais newspaper. It was Álvaro who started the collection and was given toy soldiers as presents by his own father at the age of two. On his death, the foundation of which the museum is a part, was taken over by his French-born wife Agnes.
Alejandro and his sister in law Paloma went on to increase the collection with visits to Sotheby’s and Christie’s, and to model fairs such as the one in Folkestone, Kent. The museum also has a library replete with history books, a third of whose 50,000 volumes are in English, including documents such as the Duke of Berwick’s comments on the Battle of Almansa, which in April 2007 celebrated its 300th anniversary. There is a scale model of the battle in the museum, which contains 5,000 figures from their total stock of well over a million. Many of the pieces are in fact from the prestigious ‘Britain’s’ company, and another exhibit shows a scene from the Valencian writer Joanot Martorell’s book 'Tirant Lo Blanc' (now a film) of a joust that takes place in Oxford in the presence of the English king and nobles. Since the museum’s inauguration, there have been many special exhibitions, such as the ones about the Zulu Wars, Napoleon, the First World War or North America. The

marking Valencia’s declaration as a member of the Silk Route amalgamation, shows scenes from the film '55 Days at Peking', filmed at a gigantic set built near Madrid. However, the figures in the museum’s collection are not all bellicose, as demonstrated by the exhibition on Sports and Leisure launched in November 2013. They also frequently present newly published history-related books. Alejandro and Paloma laughed as they
recalled a dash they once made to London in an old car to buy up a collection from Forbes; and then having to hand-wrap each piece in silk paper in order to bring them back home. The soldiers are not only made of tin; lead, plastic, balsa wood, ceramic, clay and even pewter are also used, and some of the lead ones even suffer from a kind of ‘lead disease’, which will eventually see them dissolve into powder. Apart from soldiers, there are sections dealing with fashion, sport (including cricket of course), comics, and trades. They were very emphatic that the museum does not attempt to glorify war. There are also historical sections from primitive man through the Sumerians, Egyptians and Carthaginians, including Hannibal’s siege of Sagunto Castle, a fact which brought actor Vin Diesel to Valencia some months ago for research on a film he is longing to make about the great general. At present there are 10 rooms, as well as a gift shop and conference centre in the historic building which is still the family home; and there are workshops, tournaments, a ‘friends of the museum association’ and temporary exhibitions. Shepherd's Pie
rather than seared it. To replace the browned meat flavours that usually form the basis of the sauce, we sautéed the onions, mushrooms, and tomato paste in the skillet until quite dark, and then we deglazed the pan with fortified wine.
With a slight nip in the air these evening, we look at a dish that we all grew up with: Shepherd's Pie. In a warmer climate such as ours in Spain, the traditional version of this dish of meat and gravy topped with mashed potatoes is not only time-consuming to make but the end product maybe a bit heavy for modern palates. We streamlined the process by building and serving the pie in one skillet and by using lean ground beef rather than braised chunks of meat. To keep the meat tender, we treated it with baking soda, which raised the pH and kept the proteins from bonding too tightly, and we simmered the meat in the gravy
Ingredients ½pounds 93 percent lean ground beef 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons water Salt and pepper ½teaspoon baking soda 2 ½pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted ½ cup milk 1 large egg yolk 8 scallions, green parts only, sliced thin 2 teaspoons vegetable oil 1 onion, chopped 4 ounces white mushrooms, trimmed and chopped 1 tablespoon tomato paste 2 garlic cloves, minced 2 tablespoons Madeira or ruby port 2t ablespoons all-purpose flour 1 ¼cups beef broth
2teaspoons Worcestershire sauce 2sprigs fresh thyme 1 bay leaf 2 carrots, peeled and chopped 2 teaspoons cornstarch Instructions Serves 4 To 6 Don’t use ground beef that’s fattier than 93 percent or the dish will be greasy. 1. Toss beef with 2 tablespoons water, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and baking soda in bowl until thoroughly combined. Set aside for 20 minutes. 2. Meanwhile, place potatoes in medium saucepan; add water to just cover and 1 tablespoon salt. Bring to boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until potatoes are soft and tip of paring knife inserted into potato meets no resistance, 8 to 10 minutes. Drain potatoes and return to saucepan. Return saucepan to low heat and cook, shaking pot occasionally, until any surface moisture on potatoes has evaporated, about 1 minute. Remove pan from heat and mash potatoes well. Stir in melted butter. Whisk together milk and egg yolk in small bowl, then stir into potatoes. Stir in scallion greens and season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover and set aside. 3. Heat oil in broiler-safe 10-inch skillet over medium heat until shimmering. Add onion, mushrooms,
1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are just starting to soften and dark bits form on bottom of skillet, 4 to 6 minutes. Stir in tomato paste and garlic; cook until bottom of skillet is dark brown, about 2 minutes. Add Madeira and cook, scraping up any browned bits, until evaporated, about 1 minute. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Add broth, Worcestershire, thyme, bay leaf, and carrots; bring to boil, scraping up any browned bits. Reduce heat to medium-low, add beef in 2-inch chunks to broth, and bring to gentle simmer. Cover and cook until beef is cooked through, 10 to 12 minutes, stirring and breaking up meat chunks with 2 forks halfway through. Stir cornstarch and remaining 2 teaspoons water together in bowl. Stir cornstarch mixture into filling and continue to simmer for 30 seconds. Remove thyme and bay leaf. Season with salt and pepper to taste. 4. Adjust oven rack 5 inches from broiler element and heat broiler. Place mashed potatoes in large zipper-lock bag and snip off 1 corner to create 1-inch opening. Pipe potatoes in even layer over filling, making sure to cover entire surface. Smooth potatoes with back of spoon, then use tines of fork to make ridges over surface. Place skillet on rimmed baking sheet and broil until potatoes are golden brown and crusty and filling is bubbly, 10 to 15 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

The Story Of The Poppy The inspiration behind the poppy as a symbol of Remembrance.

Remembrance Day, commemorated on the 11:11:11:, eleventh hour, eleventh day, eleventh month, holds mystery for our Spanish hosts and many of our resident neighbours from around the world about what the Poppy symbol actually means. As a main fundraising and awareness symbol of The Royal British Legion, we turn to them for their thoughts on yesterday's event.
In Flanders' fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders' fields.
During the First World War (1914–1918) much of the fighting took place in Western Europe. Previously beautiful countryside was blasted, bombed and fought over, again and again. The landscape swiftly turned to fields of mud: bleak and barren scenes where little or nothing could grow. Bright red Flanders poppies (Papaver rhoeas) however, were delicate but resilient flowers and grew in their thousands, flourishing even in the middle of chaos and destruction. In early May 1915, shortly after losing a friend in Ypres, a Canadian doctor, Lt Col John McCrae was inspired by the sight of poppies to write a now famous poem called 'In Flanders Fields'. McCrae’s poem inspired an American academic, Moina Michael, to make and sell red silk poppies which were brought to England by a French woman, Anna Guérin. The (Royal) British Legion, formed in 1921, ordered 9 million of these poppies and sold them on 11 November that year. The poppies sold out almost immediately and that first ever 'Poppy Appeal' raised over £106,000; a considerable amount of money at the time. This was used to help WW1 veterans with employment and housing. The following year, Major George Howson set up

Shoppers age 18-36 say store brand products are also more innovative than brand name ones, deliver better value and are higher quality than ever, according to a report by Mintel. What's more, millennials aren't the only group driving the growing demand for store brands. Private label brands now account for nearly 18 percent of all sales in the USA - $115.3 billion, according to the Private Label Manufacturer's Association. In supermarkets, store brands make up 23 percent of all products sold and more than 17 percent of all products sold in drug stores, the PLMA says. Early store brands had a reputation for mimicking the winning qualities of national brands, but many of today's private labels are leading the way. Continuing on his tour of the Baltics, if the same person fancied a tipple in Finland he is more likely to make a joke about needing a mortgage to pay for a bottle of vodka.

Welcome to the eurozone, where the coins and notes are the same but the prices differ markedly. While its 19 member countries share a currency, they do not share the same prices for products in their respective states. The cost of living and relative purchasing power varies across each of the member states. In other words the real value of 100€ varies across the currency union. Germany and Italy are closest to the European average at €100 and €99 respectively.
On the other side of the coin, spending 100€ in Luxembourg gets you the least of any of the Eurozone countries - 68€’s worth: while 100€ has the purchasing power of 77€ in Ireland and Finland. This can be a hard concept to understand but it basically boils down to a whole bunch of items varying in price across different countries. For example, you can probably find an espresso in Paris for 1.50€, if and only if you find a real Parisian cafe and don't want a view of the Eiffel Tower. In Italy there would be riots if the price of a shot of coffee exceeded 1:00€.

When you apply this across a range of goods and services, you suddenly discover the purchasing power of the euro in each of the countries. Some of these basket items have been plucked apart in Eurostat’s explainer. For example, Ireland, the home of Guinness, as if we didn't know that, is the most expensive place in Europe for alcohol and tobacco while Bulgaria is the cheapest. Clothes are priciest in Sweden except for footwear which is even more costly in Denmark.
However, you can forget about that one euro coffee in people-watching Venice. Tourists going to Venice beware - and make sure you read the fine print as seven tourists from Rome got a bitter surprise when their bill for four coffees and three liqueurs at an outdoor cafe topped 100€, at the famed Caffe Lavena in St. Mark’s Square. What the tourists apparently did not notice when looking at the menu was the “music surcharge” of six euros per person. It added up to 42€, or nearly half of the bill. “If they found the prices too high, they could have got up and gone somewhere else, like many people do, or have the coffee standing at the bar inside, where it costs one euro,” Lavena’s manager, Massimo Milanese, told the Corriere della Sera newspaper. But Spain still offers great value for money: Menu del Dia, breakfast specials of a tostada with tomato and Serrano ham including a coffee, tea or soft-drink for only 1:80€ if you know where to look, and Spain remains hard to beat.
World Travel Market Another Success
Tourism ministers, bloggers and party goers turned the final day of the revamped three-day WTM London into a festival of business and fun. The UNWTO & WTM Ministers’ Summit is one of the highest-profile sessions of the entire event. Now in its tenth year, more than 100 tourism ministers and their aides from around the world were joined by board-level representatives from some of the biggest travel companies. Some of those attending included councillors from Torrevieja, Alicante, Orihuela and other Vega Baja municipalities.
This year’s Summit called on the industry and governments to work together to help destinations cope with the threat of terrorism, which UNWTO Secretary-General Dr Taleb Rifai described as “forces of darkness”. Mohamed Yehia Rashed Tourism Minister Egypt assured delegates that his country has the technology and security measures in place to protect tourists and urged for standard security measures to be introduced globally. Vinod Zutshi, Secretary of Tourism in the government of India – WTM London’s Official Premier Partner – said countries needed to be more responsible when issuing travel advisories as perception of safety in destinations is a key factor. Zutshi’s call was echoed by Fritz Joussen, Chief Executive TUI Group, who noted people’s perceptions often compound the problems of terrorism. “The probability of being killed by a terrorist is lower than having car accident on the way to the airport,” he said. As the leading
global event for the travel industry, WTM London welcomes all levels of participants in the business, from ministers to bloggers. At a dedicated Speed Networking event, 100 bloggers from 15 different countries talked to exhibitors interested in using this increasingly important channel.

Attendees at his well-attended session were given first access to its 2017 consumer trends analysis, getting advance notice on wearables as a payments device, travel brands sponsoring the restoration of iconic monuments across Europe, chatbots and AI becoming a mainstream customer service channel and the potential time-limited offers and promotions. Elsewhere Mexico City Tourism Trust Director Magdalena Sanchez noted that Donald Trump’s victory in the US election today came on the 27th anniversary of the day the Berlin Wall came down. “The most important thing is to say Mexico is open for business to the world. As a tourist service we are working to strengthen our markets, this is why we are here,” Simon Press, Senior Director, WTM London 2016 said: “Our decision to revamp WTM London as a three-day event was in response to our listening and responding to our core audience of buyers, exhibitors and visitors. We are confident we have, yet again, delivered a best-in-class event which reconfirms our status as the leading global event for the travel industry.”

Ray's Rant: Chinese And Other Rubbish By Ray Kearney When I say Chinese Rubbish, I am not referring to the products being sold inside Chinese shops but to the large mounds of cardboard boxes and other debris outside their cheaply built shop units. Our Chinese neighbours on the Cabo Roig Strip, in Alameda del Mar, beside Zenia Boulevard to name but a few seem to think that it is OK to have visible mounds of waste on their own land for all to see. Maybe in China it is OK to create eyesores that are also potential fire hazards but this is not acceptable in Europe, unless of course you are Justo Quesada who chooses to place a dozen rusty skips on his land in front of a commercial area. This type of behaviour shows a lack of respect for customers and neighbours. Why are these so called business people allowed by the local police and their local town hall to treat the environment in such a shoddy and “couldn’t care less” manner? Why are these people not told to clean up their acts? Why don’t they get a fine every day until they do? Why are there no waste bins on the Cabo Roig strip? Why are footpaths black with walked-in grease and dirt outside commercial centres and in places like the Cabo Roig strip? Why does almost every council bin stink and the ground around them is full of dirt? Why are broken bins not repaired or replaced? Is it too much to ask for a two man team with a small truck with water, a generator and a power-washer to go from bin to
bin to clean and repair, this same team could power-wash grimy dirty footpaths as well? Graffiti mars the area where we live. Some graffiti in Orihuela Costa is 10 years old: successive governments have ignored this problem. Only one councillor (Pedro Mancebo - CLR) in the last 18 years that I have lived here has made an effort to erase unsightly graffiti from the walls of the coast. Then councillor Mancebo was removed from office by the communist mayor (Guillen 2011-2015) after only six months as councillor for the coast because he was moving the coast forward and becoming too popular. Communities and businesses should paint over graffiti on their community walls, but if they fail to do so, then the town hall should clean up the graffiti and bill the community or property owner for the cleanup. Every autumn tons of dates fall from the palm trees in Cabo Roig and other places causing an unholy sticky mess on the footpaths and roads where palm trees stand. The dates could be removed from the trees in late August or early September and used for animal feed. This is not done. Green waste is a constant problem and although councillors try different initiatives to resolve these problems, no great improvement is visible. Add to this weeds growing through footpaths and it all contributes to making our area
look uncared for. Undeveloped land and waste land by law should be cleared of weeds and fenced. There are many individuals who own small plots of land and quite rightly have been instructed by the town hall to comply with this regulation. There is however others who own larger pieces of land who are either forgotten by the town hall or the owners ignore the regulations. Those who treat our environment with contempt should be censured and fined. We all have a duty of care to this beautiful area we live in, let us all treat it and our neighbours with respect. Subterranean Homesick Blues By Bob Dylan By Keith Nicol Bob Dylan Nobel Laureate, is possibly best know for his protest songs from the 60's and rightly or wrongly some of these classics were probably what the Nobel Prize committee had in mind in presenting him with his award for music and literature. The singer did change his range from anti-establishment to country to pop and back to folk again, but it's possibly the protest and songs of social injustice we think of most with the mention of his name. Dylan's top ten protest songs include such classics as: ‘Blowin’ in the Wind’, 'Masters of War', ‘Oxford Town’, ‘A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall’, ‘The Times They Are a-Changin'', 'The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll', ‘With God on Our Side’, ‘Hurricane’, ‘Chimes of Freedom’, ‘Maggie’s Farm’ and ‘The Times They Are aChangin’'. However, Bob Dylan‘s entire career has been filled with detours and left turns. He took his first major risk and arguably the biggest, on March 8, 1965 when he released the single, “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, for Columbia Records, This was his second foray into rock'n'roll from his album Bringing It all Back Home. “Subterranean Homesick Blues”, borrowing from the title of Jack Kerouac’s novel The Subterraneans, was a beat poetry-inspired glimpse into the
burgeoning counterculture set to the rapid-fire pace of Chuck Berry’s “Too Much Monkey Business.” While Subterranean Homesick Blues” sounds like nothing much more than a surreal stream-ofconsciousness, it’s relatively one-dimensional when the slang is deciphered. The song’s first two verses depict a scene of low-level drug dealers holding off the cops on the beat with bribes until they’re inevitably busted on orders from above. He polishes it off with the oft-quoted line, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.” Musically, it was a unique take on the blues. Instead of the eight or 12 bars that are the standard for blues-based songs, Dylan needed 18 bars to cram in all the words in his verses. Bassist Bill Lee (filmmaker Spike Lee’s father) appears confused by the structure because he regularly loses his place in the song – and it didn’t help that Dylan started the last verse early in order to add a 19th bar. Still, this rawness and lack of precision gives the song its immediacy and shows how Dylan was building upon his influences by refusing to be confined by tradition. On May 9th 1965, Bob Dylan performed in his first major United Kingdom concert, when he appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in London. While on this UK Tour he was joined by director D.A. Pennebaker, who captured the tour in the documentary 'Don’t Look Back'. For its opening,
Pennebaker filmed a one-shot clip (embedded at the top) in the alley behind London’s Savoy Hotel, where Dylan held a series of cards with (more or less) a word or two from each of the song’s lines, dropping each one as it played. Over on the left, poet Allen Ginsburg and artist-songwriter Bob Neuwirth are talking to each other. The video, which also served as the theatrical trailer for the movie, has taken on iconic status over the years. It has been the subject of numerous homages and parodies over the years, most notably INXS’ “Mediate,” which wound up in heavy rotation when added to the end of the video for their hit single “Need You Tonight.” “Subterranean Homesick Blues” was Dylan’s first charting single. While not a massive hit – it only reached No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number nine in the UK, one of his six top ten hits. It was enough to give Dylan what he wanted, an audience beyond the folk world. A few months later would see the release of “Like a Rolling Stone” and Highway 61 Revisited and even bigger fame. The major irony is that Bob Dylan became a hero on the strength of a song in which he clearly said, “Don’t follow leaders.”

Dylan: Once There; Now Gone By Keith Nicol The enigma that is Bob Dylan, Robert Zimmerman to some family and friends, was back in the news last month. Not so much for his music but because, even though he could be found performing around the USA, after taking nearly a week to acknowledge the award of his Nobel prize in literature on his website, a day later it disappeared.

That single sentence on his website for the best part of 24-hours, was the sole public recognition Dylan had given to the prestigious award. It's been suggested that Dylan could refuse the title of Nobel laureate – though the Nobel committee does not acknowledge refusals, and continues to list its winners whether or not they want the prize – as per the wishes of the Nobel prize’s founder, Alfred Nobel.
We all know that Dylan can be a shade cantankerous at times, and that he's never fully acknowledged or thanked many of the organisations that have previously honoured him. This time it took Bob Dylan the best part of a week to acknowledge that he had been awarded the Nobel prize in literature. Newspaper and Media outlets were filled with mini-biogs about him, which in part will him to introduce his formidable talent to a whole new generation of prospective listeners. What the majority of media outlets had failed to mention at the time was that although he been bestowed the honour, he had not actually accepted it.
Possibly of more concern to Dylan was the loss of a number of his original paintings in a fire along with a collection by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood. Their work was among art destroyed in a fire in Exeter, at Castle Fine Art. The thousands of pounds worth of art, much of which is irreplaceable, includes collectors limited edition pieces. Friday November 4th was meant to be the launch of Bob's latest collection at galleries nationwide, including Castle Fine Art. They had 15 of his signed limited edition pieces from his new collection 'The Beaten Path'. The blaze spread to, and also destroyed, England's oldest hotel: the iconic The Royal Clarence.
When he finally did acknowledge the award, it was almost done in an off-the-cuff, dismissive way: within an update to a page on his website plugging a new collection of his lyrics. But now it appears he's had a change of heart and all mention of the Nobel Prize for the mercurial music legend has disappeared. The simple words “winner of the Nobel prize in literature”, which appeared on the page for The Lyrics: 1961-2012, have now been
removed. Bob Dylan, Nobel laureate, is once again plain Bob Dylan. His site, www.BobDylan.com does mention his Grammy win: 'Bob Dylan Wins a 2016 Grammy Award: Bob Dylan’s album The Basement Tapes Complete: The Bootleg Series Vol. 11 was awarded a Grammy as Best Historical Album, and his Shadows in the Night was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album category.' But nothing about his latest honour. But you never know: as if by magic if could have reappeared as we went to press. According to Sara Danius, the Nobel academy’s permanent secretary, attempts had been made to

Leonard Cohen
21, 1934 in Westmount, in the Canadian province of Quebec. His mother had emigrated from Lithuania to Canada and his father Nathan, whose ancestors came from Poland, owned a prosperous clothing store. His father died when Cohen was just nine years old but left his son a trust fund that would enable him to pursue his chosen literary career.
In the early hours of Friday morning, the passing of Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen was announced on his website and Facebook page. It said: It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away. We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief. Leonard Cohen, the remarkable musician and poet and one of the most visionary artists of his generation, winner of the Prince of Asturias Award 2011, has died at the age of 82 years. Cohen was one of the most influential representatives of the generation of musicians who rose to prominence during the sixties and seventies. Only Bob Dylan, in the opinion of specialized magazines like Rolling Stone, had a greater influence on his time and only Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell Canadian equaled as a poet. Leonard Norman Cohen was born on September
The young Cohen attended a privately run Jewish co-educational day school where he learned to play guitar and formed a folk group called the Buckskin Boys. "Guitars impress girls", was the reasoning he gave. Shortly thereafter, he leaned toward poetry, after discovering the work of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. After graduating from the prestigious McGill University in Canada, Cohen moved to the Greek island of Hydra. There he wrote his first book of poems, "Flowers for Hitler" (Flowers for Hitler, 1964) and the novels "The Favourite Game" (1963) and "Beautiful Losers" (1966). Frustrated by poor sales of his books, he moved to New York in 1966. There came into contact with a few fledging artists involved in the folk and alternative scene of the time, becoming friends with folk singer Judy Collins, Pop Artist Andy Warhol, the Velvet Underground and German singer Nico. After his first success with the song Suzanne, based on his poem Suzanne Takes You Down, became a hit for Judy Collins he soon became the author of reference of musicians like Collins, James Taylor and Willie Nelson, among others. Last month Leonard Cohen responded to Bob Dylan winning the Nobel prize for literature.

On the evening of the announcement (October 13), Leonard Cohen was speaking in Los Angeles at a playback and Q&A for his forthcoming album, ‘You Want It Darker’. Giving his thoughts on Dylan’s award, Leonard said “To me [the award] is like pinning a medal on Mount Everest for being the highest mountain.” On hearing the sad news, many stars have turned to Twitter to share quotes and personal notes on the late poet. Actor Russell Crowe thanked Cohen for "the quiet nights ... and the truth." Leonard Cohen was, arguably, one of the most enigmatic poets and songwriters of his generation. While many of the themes in his work hinted at depression, he always felt that he was just a keen observer of the realities of life. "Seriousness, rather than depression is, I think, the characteristic of my work," he once told an interviewer. " I like a good laugh, but I think there's enjoyment that comes through seriousness. We all know when we close the door and come into your room and you're left with your heart and your emotions, it isn't all that funny."

Backstage Interview with Tim Taylor Who are you and what do you do? I am Tim Taylor and I play guitar and sing as a solo act. I also play keyboards with Nilo and his band as well as play keyboards and guitar in the Time Team Band. I just love playing music.

How did you start in the business? When I was 5 my dad recognised that TV was a time waster (even before Big Brother and X Factor) and swapped our TV for a piano, and I used to copy what my eldest brother played as he was learning piano at school which taught me to play by ear. When I was in my teens my other brother was learning guitar from a friend of his which got me interested as well and I started strumming a few chords and singing. When a work colleague told me he used to play in a band we decided to have musical get together and eventually formed a band and ended up playing together for 18 years in which I played keyboards and guitar. I later had formal lessons in classical
What would you be doing if you were not an entertainer? Probably travelling a lot more as I love to explore the world, but not as much as performing. Do you ever get nervous or have you suffered stage fright? I sometimes feel a little nervous on the way to a gig at a new venue, probably due to the unknown factors like finding the place and somewhere to park and whether there will be a good audience. Once I am there and setting up I usually just cannot wait to get up there and perform. What was your best moment? Playing an outside gig to a large appreciative
audience in a lovely setting (in Spain of course) What has been your worst moment? Turning up at a gig in pouring rain and finding we had to take all the gear up an outside fire escape to access the concert room (in England of course). What’s the best piece of advice you have received or would give someone starting out in the business? Better to perform something you are comfortable with, than trying something more technically difficult and struggling with it. Any little anecdotes or interesting stories? While making a recording of a song we had played for a number of years one of the members of the band who was singing harmonies was found out to be singing completely incorrect and ridiculous words which was not apparent when we all sung together. We ended up laughing so much we had to drop the song as we were afraid we would burst out laughing on stage and be unable to carry on.
After Hours at The Black Bull Steak Bar & Restaurant Tell us about yourselves My name is Gummi and I have run the ‘Black Bull’ restaurant, together with my twin brother Christian, for just over a year now. We are located between San Miguel da las Salinas and the village of Torremendo. We are originally from Iceland and have been in Spain for 10 years, since we were teenagers. We went to school and college over here. What made you open a bar/restaurant? Neither of us had done much of this sort of thing before as a job but on several occasions we had organized a “food fest” for the Icelandic community on the Costa Blanca. This was always fish-based with matured skate and fishy tapas. These occasions always went
extremely well and inspired us to open a restaurant ourselves. Where did the inspiration for the name come from? In the years before we took over the place had been several different types of establishment with various names, including the ‘Black Bull.’ This was the name that seemed the most familiar to our locals and we liked it so that is what it became. Who does the cooking? And how would you describe your style? Christian is the head chef, ably assisted by Vicente who is Spanish. This means we can offer an interesting mix of Icelandic and Spanish cuisine. Vicente’s forte is ‘Speciality Spanish Tapas’ while Christian particularly likes cooking
steaks and Hunter’s Chicken, which contains bacon with edam and mature cheddar cheeses. Also we all like traditional English food such as fish and chips. What’s your favourite dish on the menu? I’ve asked around on this one. My personal favourite is spare ribs while Christian’s is fillet steak. Vicente went for pan-fried breaded fish with chips and fried onions. Our waitress Stefanie also chipped in with her choice being chicken with cheese… Icelandic style. I guess this gives an indication of the variety of our menu. Favourite day of the week? I love Sundays when, in common with many other places these days, we do a carvery. Christian particularly looks forward to Saturdays as this is the day he prepares his steak specials. Finally, and maybe we shouldn’t say this but, we all love Tuesdays because it is our day off. Having said that we always look forward to re-opening on Wednesday morning as we love what we do here. Any interesting tales? I can give you a couple of snippets about ourselves. Christian literally went from working as a bricklayer to becoming a chef overnight. I have to say that he’s taken to it like a duck to
water. As for myself my only real previous experience working in this environment was a short stint in a coffee bar in Reykjavik, Iceland. It happened to be, however, Iceland’s most famous coffee bar, the “Svarta Kaffi”. (The name means ‘black coffee’). Oh and we pride ourselves in keeping our French windows clean, so much so that in our early days a couple of people walked into them thinking they were open. Thankfully nobody was hurt. We stopped short of putting up signs saying “This is a window” but we now put up posters or something similar to make it obvious there’s a window there. Three simple ways to improve your Facebook security Your Facebook profile is a representation of you on the Web. It's where you connect with friends, learn the latest news and find the best reviews of the restaurants and products you enjoy every day. You use your Facebook profile all the time, so you want to make sure the information you display on Facebook remains as safe and secure as possible. Facebook works 24/7 to protect people's accounts, but there are also simple things you can do to take more control of your security.
2. Turn on login approvals. If you're only going to make one change to improve the security of your account, this is it. Otherwise known as two-factor authentication (2FA), login approvals provide an extra security step whenever you log in from a new device. You will get a special code on your phone that you use along with your password to complete the login process.
Here are three easy options: 1. Take a security checkup. Security Checkup is the quickest and easiest way to add extra layers of protection to your Facebook account. With three simple steps you can: Control where you're logged in. This makes it easy to log out of devices you haven't used in a while or may have forgotten about, meaning you'll only be logged into Facebook on devices and browsers you approve. Turn on Login Alerts. When this feature is activated, you'll receive a notification or email alert whenever someone tries to log into your account from a new device or browser. Review your password security. Only use strong and unique passwords. You should never use your Facebook password anywhere else online and never share it with anyone. You can start your Security Checkup any time by searching for "security checkup" in the Facebook Help Centre, or by typing facebook.com/securitycheckup into your browser.
To turn on login approvals, all you have to do is go to "Settings" in the Facebook app on your phone or in your browser. Once you've done this, select "Security Settings" and check the box next to "Login Approvals." If you don't have login approvals turned on already, you should do it as soon as possible.
3. Use your Facebook login with third-party apps. Your Facebook login allows you to quickly and safely log into many third-party apps using your Facebook account. Maintaining a login system is hard, and by using your Facebook account, you don't need to trust your login to every app you sign into. They never get to see your Facebook password. As an added bonus, using Facebook Login means you don't need to create and remember lots of new passwords. You can also control what information you share with these apps by clicking "Edit the Info You Provide." And best of all, you choose whether to let the app post on your behalf. To sign into an app with Facebook, simply click on the Facebook button on the app's sign-in page. In addition to the steps above, you can also visit the Facebook Safety Centre, which provides additional tools to help control your experience on Facebook, as well as numerous tips and resources for safe and secure sharing. It also gives you access to the Bullying Prevention Hub, a resource for teens, parents and educators seeking guidance on how to prevent and address bullying on the Internet. Your home comes with locks on the doors. Your car comes with an alarm. Your cell phone comes with a passcode. Yet every day you take additional steps to protect these possessions and the valuable information they hold. Why not do the same for your Facebook account? With just a few simple clicks, you can give your account a tune-up and more safely connect and share on Facebook with the people you care about.

Ladies who Lunch Seven new members joined the successful Ladies who Lunch ( LwL) group last month, enjoying a menu del dia at Sabores Restaurant , situated in The Marquesa Golf area of Quesada.LwL are now in their 7th year, having donated 14,000 Euros to a variety of charities , predominantly in the local area. Some of the Charities that have benefited include Paul Cunningham Nurses, The Samaritans, Age Concern, DEBRA, Afeecancer and The Torrevieja Stroke Association. One of this year's highlights for the group was to receive a personal thank you from Her Majesty The Queen, for the specially designed card sent to celebrate her 90th birthday. The main aim of LwL is
to raise money for charities, however, Janine Williams, the founder, also wanted to bring like minded ladies together for support and friendship. Many strong friendships have developed within this group, and will continue to flourish as new members join.

At choir practice on Friday October 21st everyone said a fond farewell to Lesley Rolls. She and her husband Stuart have decided to return to England after more than ten years in Spain.

Lesley has been a staunch member of the choir throughout her time here, for many years choir secretary and a keen committee member. She will be remembered also for the comedy songs she sang at Crescendo’s own Christmas
fundraising concerts. Stuart, although not a singing member, has supported the choir in many ways. The choir presented Lesley with a beautiful china fruit dish. We wish her and Stuart all the best for the future and hope that it will not be too long before they return for a visit. Why You Need A Spanish Will by Fuensanta Alenda Andreu The European Union forced Spain to make changes to their laws, when it comes to writing out a Spanish Will and who will benefit after death. It is becoming usual (or more and more common) to file a petition before the Spanish courts on behalf of the children that were not included in the last will of their parents, British nationals and resident in Spain. Why? Last year came into force the European regulation No 650/2012, on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition and enforcement in matter of succession and on the creation of a European Certificate of Succession. This ruling is to apply to a succession involving the death of a person on or after August 17th 2015. One of the main significant changes to the present legal situation is that to succession and wills the applicable law is that of the State of the habitual residence of the decease but rather the law of the State with which the deceased was manifestly more closely connected. But what does that really mean? According to the Spanish Civil Code, the applicable law of who should benefit after death depended upon citizenship. Due to that, foreigners would typically grant their will according to their national law not observing the fixed rules established by the Spanish Civil Code. Now that the EURegNo 650/2012 has come into force, the applicable law will be that of the place of your habitual residence
must be given to your descendants, if you have them. One third of this can be freely deposited to the person or entity of your choice; you can leave it to whomever you wish. Most of the Common Wills granted by expats here in Spain, agree to leave what they own in Spain to their partner, whether they are married or not. This will be enforceable only if the testator included in their last will that the applicable law to the inheritance is their national law. The same law applies to the whole succession, irrespective of either the type of assets (moveable or immoveable) concerned or the country of their location. If not, Spanish law will be applied and his/her children might claim their rights. at the time of death, regardless of your original citizenship. However, the term habitual residence is not legally defined in this regulation, but this is a matter is something we shall cover in further articles. The applicable law will govern, for example, the determination of the beneficiaries and their respective shares; the capacity to inherit; the powers of the heirs; the executors of the wills and the administrators of the estate and the liability for the debts under the succession. This has a special relevance, as the Spanish Civil Code is completely different, for example, than British applicable law. One of the aspects of the Spanish law, is that two thirds of your rights and properties (despite their nature: house, car, jewellery, investments, etc...),
However, before their death, a person can instead choose that the applicable law should be the law of their country of nationality or they can choose the law of where they live, but in either case, this election must be clearly included in their will. If the other party is responsible for the accident or the other driver involved in the car accident refuses to collaborate, you should take note of any details that may serve to identify them, the licence plate number, and any persons witnessing the accident, etc. Even though you might think you are not injured, we always recommend going to a Hospital or Medical Centre. Some damages, for example, a neck contracture (whiplash), appears a few hours after the accident occurs. Make sure the doctor drafts a detailed report stating the extent of any injuries resulting from the accident and a complete diagnosis. This report will be a very important factor for your lawyer. Friends With Benefits Friends With Benefits: Don;t get ahead of me: it's a study on the positive consequences of pet ownership. Pets can serve as important sources of social and emotional support for “everyday people,” not just individuals facing significant health challenges, according to research published by the American Psychological Association. And, the study found, pet owners were just as close to key people in their lives as to their animals, indicating no evidence that relationships with pets came at the expense of relationships with other people, or that people relied more on pets when their human social support was poorer. Psychologists at Miami University and Saint Louis University conducted three experiments to examine the potential benefits of pet ownership among what they called everyday people. The results of the current study were reported in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology®, published online by APA.
“We observed evidence that pet owners fared better, both in terms of well-being outcomes and individual differences, than non-owners on several dimensions,” said lead researcher Allen R. McConnell, PhD, of Miami University in Ohio. “Specifically, pet owners had greater self-esteem, were more physically fit, tended to be less lonely, were more conscientious, were more extraverted, tended to be less fearful and tended to be less preoccupied than non-owners.” Until now, most research into the benefits of pets has been correlational, meaning it looked at the relationship between two variables but didn’t show that one caused the other. For example, prior research showed that elderly Medicare patients with pets had fewer doctor visits than similar patients without pets, or that HIV-positive men with pets were less depressed than those without. In this study, 217 people (79 percent women, mean age 31, mean annual family income $77,000) answered surveys aimed at determining whether pet owners in the group differed from people who didn’t have pets in the areas of well-being, personality type and attachment style. Several differences between the groups emerged, and in all cases, pet owners were happier, healthier and better adjusted than were non-owners. A second experiment, involving 56 dog owners (91 percent of whom were women, with a mean age of 42 and average annual family income of $65,000), examined whether pet owners benefit more when their pet is perceived to fulfill their social needs better. This study found greater well-
being among owners whose dogs increased their feelings of belonging, self-esteem and meaningful existence. The last study, comprising 97 undergraduates with an average age of 19, found that pets can make people feel better after experiencing rejection. Subjects were asked to write about a time when they felt excluded. Then they were asked to write about their favourite pet, or to write about their favourite friend, or to draw a map of their campus. The researchers found that writing about pets was just as effective as writing about a friend when it came to staving off feelings of rejection. “The present work presents considerable evidence that pets benefit the lives of their owners, both psychologically and physically, by serving as an important source of social support,” the researchers wrote. “Whereas past work has focused primarily on pet owners facing significant health challenges … the present study establishes that there are many positive consequences for everyday people who own pets.”

Iconic phone boxes on sale for first time in 25 years The image of the red phone box is one that is known across the world as one of the iconic symbols of Britain. The striking Post Office-red boxes once provided a splash of colour in villages, towns and cities across the UK - and often sparked a sigh of a relief in many a stranded traveller. But the widespread use of mobile phones, coupled with vandalism, has sounded the death-knell for the boxes. Just 10 years ago, there were 92,000 BT phone boxes on our streets. Now there are just 51,500 kiosks including 11,000 traditional red phone boxes across the UK.

The Jubilee kiosk, as it became known, was designed by English architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and became the first genuinely standard telephone box to be installed all over the country. Sir Giles was also responsible for designing Liverpool's Anglican Cathedral, Battersea Power Station and Bankside Power Station, now home to contemporary art gallery Tate Modern.
As payphone use keeps falling - calls have declined by more than 80% in the last five years and around 60% of phone boxes lose money - the numbers of red and modern kiosks will continue to shrink as BT cuts their numbers to match demand. But you can now secure your piece of telecom history - either privately or for your community - as the company is selling off its surplus old red phone boxes for the first time in more than 25 years. The company has teamed up kiosk and payphone specialist X2 Connect to sell original cast iron K6 boxes, refurbished and finished in their original red and black livery, with prices starting from £1,950.
By the end of production in 1968 there were nearly 70,000 in Britain but the advance of telecom technology alongside soaring vandalism costs has left BT facing an uphill struggle to fulfill its responsibility to provide emergency kiosks. This is despite successful new ideas which have helped phone boxes pay their way, including advertising on 20,000 modern kiosks and combining Wi-Fi and cash machine services with both modern and traditional boxes.
Katherine Ainley, general manager for BT Payphones, says: "The most fantastic thing about the Adopt a Kiosk scheme has been how communities across the country have become involved. Red phone boxes have become a focal point for all sorts of activities of real value to the local community. It's so gratifying to see our old, rarely used boxes given a new lease of life.
BT last sold red boxes direct to the public in the mid 1980s when thousands of old K6s were sold off at public auctions as part of an extensive payphone modernisation programme. Since 2008, the company has been selling decommissioned red phone boxes to local communities for just a £1 under its Adopt a

Rules for Classic Vehicles in Spain

So how much do you know about some of the special laws regarding owning and driving a Classic Car in Spain? David Hudson is here to help and says: Those who drive an historic vehicle should know that if the vehicle cannot reach 60kph they cannot drive on motorways, 50kph on dual carriageways, 45kph single carriageways. Also Trafico (DVLA) can prohibit historic vehicles travelling on certain dates and routes if the vehicle cannot maintain 80 kmh. Any historic vehicles that do not have lighting or signalling systems required by law are not allowed to travel between sunset and sunrise.
A new law introduced on 14th July 1995 tried to clarify the cultural status of Historic/Classic vehicles and allows the local authority to opt out of collecting tax from historic vehicles 25 years or older but you need to apply for exemption for vehicle tax if the Municipality has opted out. Our club: Club Torrevieja Clasicos, being a legally registered club can provide accreditation and if necessary a letter in Spanish for your municipality, detailing your vehicle and the law that applies to help you when applying for exemption. If you are a

If you don't then you could be fined 60€. When you have to have the vehicle tested for ITV it must be done in the Province that the vehicle is registered in and not the most convenient or cheapest as it will be illegal and you face a fine and a retest. The reason is that Autominuos Communities have their own standards. In Spain any vehicle 25 years or older is
classed as Historico (Classic) and imported vehicles can choose between normal registration and tested every year or historic registration which is three times more expensive but it will only be tested to the original specification and retested every three, four or five years depending on the rule in the province you are in. If registered on Historic plates then your insurance will be more expensive. Most makes from 1950s will pass the current test but it wise to go to a classic friendly ITV station such as Redovan. Those who need to register their vehicle in Spain the club recommends using the ITV testing station at Redovan who are classic car friendly and have helped members for the last 13 years. It is advised to import American cars to the UK first then as a UK registered vehicle it will be easier to import into Spain. Some of the makes that are on standard plates include Mercedes from 1960s, Porsches, 2CVs, 600s from 1950s, Rolls Royce from 1950s, Triumph Stags & TRs, & Minis, VW Beetles & Beach Buggies and American Camper Vans. It does not mean you need historic plates. for your classic vehicle because there is no financial advantage and your insurance will be more expensive. It does not mater if your vehicle is on Historic plates or normal plates, you will still have to pay the vehicle tax if the municipal has not opted in to exempt historic vehicles. It is possible that next year classics may have to have to change to the current plastic reflective plates, possibly because of the type of speed cameras being used now. Just in case it is necessary it would be wise to source out a supplier if you have a square shaped rear plate so you don't run foul of the law, should it change.

This weekend 11th – 13th November is the penultimate F1 Grand Prix of the 2016 season and looking like Nico Rosberg could secure his first World Drivers’ Championship being 19 point ahead of his teammate Lewis Hamilton with a win in Brazil. It's been a season of twists, turns and even collisions for Rosberg and Hamilton and it's made for a thrilling title race. São Paulo being 760m above sea level makes it a challenge for top engine performance. Despite the lack of a real Brazilian hero since Ayrton Senna's death, the local fans passion remains strong with high attendances at the Autódromo José Carlos Interlagos Circuit of 80,000. History will however record that Daniel Ricciardo finished third in the last race in Mexico GP but how he got there was far from straightforward. He crossed the line in fifth,
before two sets of penalties for Max Verstappen, and then Sebastian Vettel elevated him to his eighth podium finish of the season. Sebastian Vettel was summoned to meet with race stewards following a near miss with the Red
Williams name Lance Stroll as driver for 2017 F1 season By Nigel Owen Williams has a great record of introducing young drivers to Formula Canadian Lance Stroll will become the youngest driver on the grid next season. Stroll, 18 last week and who does not have a road licence, will replace Felipe Massa, who is retiring after a 15-year career in F1. He was nominated by the Fédération de Sport Automobile du Québec as Rookie of the Year in 2008. Stroll comes from wealth, as his father, fashion billionaire Lawrence
Vettel, who finished in third position after Ricciardo's teammate, Max Verstappen, was handed a 5 second penalty for gaining an advantage by going off the track, was alleged to have made a defensive move under braking, which was outlawed at the U.S. Grand Prix a week earlier. Max Verstappen will be the first F1 driver to finish 3rd, 4th and 5th in one race. Prior to the change in the rules, it had been Verstappen who had been guilty of pushing the defensive boundaries and, rather ironically, Vettel had been the most vocal complainant. Having just one podium finish from the past 10 races prior to the Mexican round of the championship, Vettel spent a great deal of the race venting his frustration over the team radio, mainly ?over the lack of blue flags, Verstappen and race director Charlie Whiting.
MotoGP Jorge Lorenzo
Stroll, reportedly spent no less than $80 million making sure his son got a seat in F1. According to German site Auto Motor und Sport, Stroll spent an exuberant amount of money on teams, engineers, and simulators to lock in his son as Williams' next number two driver. Stroll purchased the entire Prema F3 team and hired skilled Ferrari engineer Luca Baldisserri to oversee the winning 2016 season. He also bought Williams a new high-tech racing simulator for his son to practice on with the team. By Nigel Owen After 9 years, 43 victories, 38 pole and 106 podiums, and 3 world championships, Jorge Lorenzo will start his final MotoGP race for Yamaha in Valencia this weekend 11th – 13th November. Lorenzo from Palma, Majorca Spain is changing teams to Ducati next season and will make his debut in the post-race test. He is hoping for a win with Yamaha, a result that would end a ten race losing streak for the Japanese manufacturer. Lorenzo sealed his third world title by leading last year's Valencia race from start to finish. Lorenzo looks set to finish third in this year's
championship, being unable to catch Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi ahead of him, but he has a 17 point lead over Maverick Vinales. Vinales will then take over Lorenzo's seat, alongside Rossi, at the post-race test. Lorenzo started the 2016 season by winning from pole in Qatar. In the following three races, Lorenzo failed to get a win and fell behind Marc Márquez in the title race following a crash and two runners up finishes. Two consecutive wins in France and Italy put him back in front of the championship only to fall back to third due to a bad performance over the following 5 races. Lorenzo is known for his very aggressive riding, especially when overtaking.

CD Torrevieja took all six points from their last two matches as they continue to climb out of the relegation zone. They are now within three points of leaving the dangerous 'red' zone depending on results this weekend. And having lost more than a few players in recent weeks who have gone elsewhere, the good news for the club is that David Soto González "David Soto" (Antequera, 1991) has joined the squad. The club's website says of the players that: “David plays in the centre of the attack but can also play in the inside positions. He is a multipurpose player with great technical qualities and who gives 100% in each game. Having played with his home team, Antequera CF, the player went through the lower categories groups of Malaga CF and then played in San Roque de Lepe. His ambition took him to the capital, for a trial at Atletico Madrid, where he impressed those responsible for recruitment, Rafa Juanes and Gerardo Guzman. So much so, that they drafted a letter recommending the player but only an excess of players in the position were he plays, deprived him of playing in one of the best clubs in Spain. Carlos Perez has them superbly marshalled and they have yet to concede a goal in their last three matches. The relief at the final whistle was palpable as Monte inflicted the first defeat of the season on a very good, young Callosa side. CD Montesinos go onto nine points although they are waiting to get back the six points that the Valencia FA “docked” them a few weeks ago, something that the club have appealed against and are confident they will have the points returned. Should that be the case, Monte will be right back amongst the small group of clubs challenging for the top spot this season. Costa Cobras RFC charity shirt presentation By Dutch This week Costa Cobras RFC presented Walter of the Shamrock Bar in Guardamar with the winning Ireland ladies international 7’s shirt that he had won in the DEBRA raffle draw the weekend before. Also Costa Cobras RFC have had for the moment changed their training times and place to accommodate the players working arrangements. For now we are training from 20.30-22.00 on Monday and Wednesday at Dolores sports ground. The first training there we got along 6 players, so not a bad start. This week we are supposed to be having a meeting with Guardamar to hopefully finalise the pitch and accommodation and then finalise the touring teams that have asked to come over to the area. We have also been invited to go on Big FM sports programme this coming Saturday sometime between 16.00 and 17.00 to talk about the club and
