Orihuela's Budget Yesterday, Friday, an Extraordinary Meeting to approve the General Budgets for next year was held. There will be a budget of 670.000€ to fix all the roads and to fix the landslides of Cabo Roig’ cliffs. This is a beautiful path that goes along the coast, right beside the sea from Cala Capitan to the Cabo Roig Nautical Club. The Town Hall is decorating the roundabout the leads La Zenia Boulevard with a beautiful boat, and it will be named “La Armengola” (a woman whose history we will bring you in the coming weeks). The Town Hall is close to finishing and will soon inaugurate a new multicultural centre, in calle Tosca in the PAU-8, Villamartin Area. It is a brand new two-floor building containing different multipurpose rooms that can be used for concerts, performances, rehearsals, meetings, etc. It is open to all the registered neighbourhood associations, clubs, associations and charity groups. However the associations and charity groups must be legally established and properly inscribed with the Town Hall. This is the area's third such facility as the Orihuela Costa already has two more civic centres: the Centro Civico Alameda del Mar, located behind Hipercor at calle Allodia, plus the Punto de Lectura in Lomas de Cabo Roig; this being a library that features different multipurpose rooms. A Very British Way Of Raising Taxes tourism and hospitality industries.

Taxation in the British Isles has always been high on little vices and the necessity of driving your vehicle from A to B to C. The latest talk from Madrid is that the Spanish government is eyeing up a tax hike on tobacco, alcohol and diesel fuel, with these proposals backed by the emerging centre-right group Ciudadanos to avoid raising income taxes in general. Spain has always enjoyed some of the lowest taxes on smoking and drinking and enjoyed a love affair with diesel cars rather than petrol or electric ones. As the government explores its options for raising more revenue next year, which could also include raising corporate tax, emerging centre-right group Ciudadanos has said it will accept hikes on tobacco and diesel fuel as part of the Popular Party’s (PP) 2017 budget, as long as Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy agrees not to increase sales or income tax. Spanish Finance Minister Cristobal Montoro mulls his options. “We can accept these increases in such a case,” said a member of the economic team of Ciudadanos, which reached agreement with the PP this summer to support its minority government in Congress. Ciudadanos leader Albert Rivera has also called on the government to raise more revenue by cutting spending on regional administration, an overhaul of company taxes, and clawing money back from people who benefited from the PP’s 2012 tax amnesty which barely raised half of the €2.5 billion in back taxes and instead shed light on at least €25 billion estimated to be

Spain must present a package of measures to Brussels by the beginning of December to meet demands to cut €5.5 billion to reduce the country’s structural deficit – debts it believes it can avoid. The government has indicated that it intends to lower the current 21% sales tax on concerts and theatre shows to 10% – part of the deal struck with Ciudadanos that brought the PP to power – and that it won’t raise sales tax from 10% to 21% in the

33 Years Of Flying Saucers

A new report in El Pais reveals information about sightings of UFOs over Catalonia for a period of 33 years. Spain’s Defence Ministry has declassified reports of sightings between 1962 and 1995. Over 1,953 online pages provide information about 33 years of investigations carried out to clear up the origin of strange lights spotted in the sky. Although more than 80 UFO sightings in Spain have been published by the Defence Ministry on its online library, more than three decades of probing have failed to turn up any answers. One of the best-known cases in the Catalonia region took place on May 13, 1969. At the Reus military base, near Tarragona, a motionless light was seen in the sky by air traffic controllers. It was spotted while a Boeing 727 flight bound for Düsseldorf, Germany was taking off. An agile light aircraft that was in the area was ordered to approach the UFO, in an attempt to identify what it was. But as soon as the plane came closer to it, the light disappeared in the blink of an eye. This is just one of the previously confidential cases that have now have been declassified. Sixteen sightings from a total of 84, documented between 1962 and 1995, took place in Catalonia. In each report the circumstances surrounding the sighting are detailed. Time, place and meteorological conditions are included, and in some cases there are pictures, drawings, pieces of

news or interviews that help to contextualize them. Ufology enthusiasts believe that Montserrat mountain, one of the Catalonia’s most important tourist attractions, is a good place to see UFOs. A group meets there the on the 11th day of every month in a bid to spot new unidentified objects on the sky. The day was not chosen randomly. One of the most famous ufology cases in Spain took place on November 11, 1979. A plane flying from Austria to Tenerife had to make an emergency landing at Manises Airport, close to Valencia. While the aircraft was flying over Catalonia, the crew was surprised by three red lights approaching dangerously close to it. Captain, co-pilot, crew and passengers all witnessed the incident. A military aircraft tried to identify the origin of the lights but when they came close to the UFO, it disappeared. It seems the only thing the pilot was able to see was a triangular object. In 1971 there is evidence of a sighting in Montserrat. The abbot of the Santa Maria de Montserrat Benedictine abbey reported seeing mysterious lights in the sky on on October 23. In fact, it was not an isolated phenomenon. That same day many warnings of sightings were received throughout the whole Iberian Peninsula. Although some of these events have perfectly rational theories that would explain the sighting, some are not that easy to solve and serve to keep the mystery alive.

But even with the support of Ciudadanos in Congress, the PP does not have the votes needed to pass its 2017 budget and will be looking for support from the Basque National Party and the Canaries Coalition. The Socialists (PSOE) have said they will not support Rajoy’s public accounts. Ciudadanos also wants the government to go after the beneficiaries of its 2012 tax amnesty

In an interview with the Financial Times on Sunday, Economy Minister Luis de Guindos said the government was not planning to raise sales or income tax and that corporate tax would make up the bulk of any shortfall in revenue. He said that in 2007, Spain collected some €40 billion in company tax and that this year the figure would be €20 billion. He attributed the drop to the ongoing economic crisis, but added that Spain’s economy was picking up and company profits were returning to similar levels to those of 2007. “What is the difference? Many companies have accumulated a negative tax base and you can deduct that.” He added that the government would now close some of the “loopholes and deductions” used by companies. Guindos also referred in the interview to the privatization of Bankia, the former Caja Madrid savings bank and financial group bailed out and nationalized in 2012. He said next year’s deadline could be extended, and that a decision depended on market conditions.

A Brief Cinema Tour Around the Streets of Toledo By Bob Yareham Toledo, like any significant historical city, is built on a loop in a river, on a hill. The railway station is just across the river to the east, where the N400 road begins, and it is here that we catch a glimpse of Johnny Depp on his brief visit to Toledo during the mystery film The Ninth Gate (1999). If we return towards Toledo, we cross the mighty Tagus over the Puente de Azarquiel, and if we look to the right on the western bank, we can see a park where the Playa de Safont used to be and a large waterwheel. It was here that John Wayne himself strolled the banks in the company of an elephant during the film Circus World (1964); not one of his best. Carrying on along the road we come to a roundabout, and going straight on, Calle Honda on our right will take us to the Hospital Tavera, now a museum and one of various landmarks of the city that features in The El Escorial Conspiracy (2008). Here Michael York duelled with the other three musketeers in The Three Musketeers (1973), in the courtyard full of washing before turning on the Cardinal’s men, and here too Christian Bale explored Constantinople in The Promise (2016); as yet unreleased but with some train shots taken in the Valencia Community near Segorbe. The Bisagra Gate also features in The El Escorial Conspiracy (2008), which can be found if we head south and walk there through the Parque de Merchán. Entering through the gate we come to the

Puerta Cristo de la Luz and turn right passing the Convento Carmelitas, the Monasterio de Santa Clara and the Plaza Santo Domingo El Real until we reach Calle Buzones. It is here that Johnny Depp finds the bookshop of the Cenizas twins and is attacked by an evil mass of scaffolding in The Ninth Gate (1999). Continuing east, and walking parallel to the city wall we follow Calle Real until Plaza Cambrón, behind the Puerta Cambrón, and here we turn left along Calle Reyes Católicos, arriving immediately at the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes. Mel Ferrer played El Greco (1966) in a sixties version of the film which featured many of Toledo's finest locations, including the cloister of the Monastery. A bit further along the street, on the other side is one of Toledo's most curious monuments, and one that shows its varied history. The Sinagoga de Santa Maria la Blanca is the setting for the aborted coronation of the Caliph during Sinbad and the Eye

of the Tiger (1977), one of three Sinbad films shot in Spain. It is an extraordinary building once inside, the most outstanding feature of which is its thirty two pilasters, with capitals decorated with carved pineapples and rhomboidal scrolls, where no one is the same as any of the others. It reminds us immediately of the Mosque of Córdoba, although a smaller version. We continue along Calle Reyes Católicos until Calle San Juan de Diós on the left, which takes us to Plaza del Conde and the Iglesia de Santo Tomé. This is the home to El Greco's famous painting El Entierro del Señor de Orgaz, which is visited by Ann Margaret in The Pleasure Seekers (1964). Next door is the Palacio de Fuensalida, where scenes of the madhouse were shot in El Greco (1966), which may be significant bearing in mind that the building is now the official residence of the President of Castilla La Mancha. To the right hand side of the Palacio is Calle Taller del Moro, which takes us to Plaza El Salvador. From here we go along Calle El Salvador and then turn left along Pasadizo de Ayuntamiento, which brings us to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Here we see the looming mass of Toledo Cathedral, in front of which we witness the execution of the Moorish servant girl during The El Escorial Conspiracy (2008). Circling the Cathedral along Calle Cardenal Cisneros and turning left along Calle Sixto Ramón Parro, we reach the Plaza Mayor, where we can see the impressive facade of the Teatro de Rojas, which was employed, as were the atmospheric streets of Toledo, to represent Paris in Murders in the Rue Morgue (1971). From there, up Calle Tornerías, turn right to the end of Cuesta Mona, left along Calle Trastámara, and right again halfway up we come to the Plaza Horno de la Magdalena, where we find the Hotel Carlos V, which is Johnny Depp’s Toledo hotel. Here he has a reencounter,

fag in hand, with Emmanuelle Seigner (‘the girl’ in the credits) and then receives a call from the evil Frank Langella, in scenes filmed in the same hotel where John Wayne stayed while filming ‘Circus World’.

Behind us looms the imposing Alcázar, symbol of the city when seen from afar, as it is in many films, such as The Return of the Musketeers (1989), or A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1966). And here our journey ends, leaving you with plenty of time to visit Toledo's many other splendid sites.

Tapas: The Ultimate Crowd Pleaser The one and only Jame Oliver thinks of this as the Ultimae Crowd Pleaser and I would tend to agree. Its's Party Squid with Harissa mayo. Jamie says: “Fresh, crispy squid dunked into this beautifully bold harissa mayo – perfect for feeding a crowd. Serves eight, cooks in 40minutes and it's not too tricky.”

Ingredients sea salt freshly ground white pepper 3 lemons 3 sprigs of flowering oregano 2 tablespoons fennel seeds 300 g plain flour 12 whole medium squid , prepared, with tentacles vegetable oil , for deep-frying a small bunch of fresh flat-leaf parsley

Place a large, deep saucepan over a mediumhigh heat. Fill three-quarters full with vegetable oil and allow to heat up. To test if the oil is hot enough, drop a piece of bread into the pan – if the bread floats to the surface, sizzles and turns golden, it's about right. Shake off any excess flour from the squid, then use a slotted spoon to carefully lower into the hot oil (you’ll need to do this in batches).

For The Harissa Mayo: 1 clove of garlic 3 heaped tablespoons Mayonnaise 4 teaspoons harissa paste 1½ teaspoons rose water

Wash and pat dry the squid, then slice and open out the tubes like a book. Cut a criss-cross pattern onto the surface, then add to the flour along with the tentacles and toss well to coat.

Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, or until golden, crisp and cooked through. Transfer to a double layer of kitchen paper to drain, then repeat with the remaining squid.

Method To make the harissa mayo, peel and bash the garlic in a pestle and mortar with a little salt, then muddle in the mayo. Add 2 teaspoons of harissa, followed by the zest and juice from ½ a lemon, then mix well, taste and add a little more lemon juice, if needed. Transfer to a bowl, drizzle over the rosewater and ripple through the

remaining harissa. Set aside.

Rinse the parsley sprigs under cold running water, shake off any excess water, then pick the leaves into the flour. Toss to coat, then lower into the hot oil for a few seconds, or until crisp. Transfer to kitchen paper, then slice 1 lemon horizontally into thin discs, dip into the flour and place in the hot oil for around 1 minute, or until crisp.

Scrunch the oregano flowers into a liquidiser and discard the stalks, then add the fennel and a teaspoon each of salt and white pepper. Blitz to a

50th Anniversary Of Torrevieja's Saint By David Hudson On Sunday 20th November, with a bitter cold wind blowing in from the Mediterranean, hundreds of Cofradia members, including our own Costaleros, gathered outside the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in the Plaza Oriente, Torrevieja. The Junta Mayor of the Cofradias (brotherhoods) decided to celebrate the Jubilee year the Pope had authorised Torrevieja's Patron Saint, with an extraordinary “Via Cruces”. Surprisingly, right on time, the large procession assembled and with a Cofradia Band banging out the traditional beat of Easter and following the blue flashing police car, the procession made its way towards the seafront behind their banners and Guild members. The strong cold wind coming from the sea did not deter the spectators lining the streets. The sound of the drums echoed against the walls of the apartments giving us a sense of pride. At the Paseo Vista Alegre the procession wound its way towards the parish church of the Inmaculate Conception. As each Cofradia arrived at the church, the parish priest was waiting beside the illuminated paso of the Virgin. A representative from the Cofradia read a passage of the station of the Via Cruces then placed a tile in a frame to form the Shield of the Junta Mayor. This was a gift to the parish that would be placed on a wall. Our President Pilar said that the International Costaleros is a fundamental part of the Brotherhood of “El Huerto” and asked us to support the occasion which by the numbers in attendance, we certainly did. This occasion was more than a celebration of the Jubilee. It was also to show the council of Torrevieja that Semana Santa holds a special significance to the people of Torrevieja. Spain has a unique history in Europe with being a christian based country under the Romans and Visigoths. Then Spain suffered 700 years under Muslem rule and finally in the 15th century returning to christianity. Fellow costaleros in Loca, Murcia and Ubeda, Andulusia explained to me that it is the obligation for every christian to publicly declare their faith at Easter. This is why there is so much passion at the Easter week processions. The current Mayor does not agree with the Santa Semana processions. He has withdrawn support and does not participate in the parade. He is also trying to change the use of the Semana Santa Museum. Perhaps he would like to join us on the Easter Palm Monday procession, which has

thousands lining the streets, and almost all are people of all ages from Torrevieja. He could be there there to represent all Torrevejense not just the few who voted for his party. I saw my first Easter procession in 1984 which was a simple village event. Two decades later, under Torrevieja's Culture Councillor Eduadro Dolon, this has grown to a spectacular spectacle with over 2,000 people taking part and takes four hours for the floats to pass during the Friday procession. The Semana Santa Processions are also now recognised as an event of special Tourist interest in the Costa Blanca. I, like many international costaleros, responded at the personal invitation of Eduardo Dolon, Torrevieja's Culture Councillor at the time, on 8th September 2004, to become a member of the “El Huerto” and because I had seen the processions so many times, decided I wanted to be one of the Costaleros or “strong ones”. During those months before the Easter parade in 2005 we were considered something of a joke by the Spanish Television channels. Now we set the standard for the other 'costaleros'. At the first meeting, with only a few committed men the President of the Junta told us that until we got 50 men

committed to the cause, then they will not be able to pay for the conversion of the paso to be altered from wheeled version that was pushed around on a chassis, to one to be carried; at a cost of 30,000€. The second meeting we achieved the manpower target of 100 strong-men, and we have not looked back since. The paso was altered in Murcia and only came back a few days before our first carry, still needing the gold effect to be added on the base. When we saw it we all said that no way could we lift the paso let alone carry it around the hills of Torrevieja. Most of the practice with this paso happened on the carry down from the museum. On the first night we assembled behind the church in front of the cafeteria where we had our last minute instructions then our chaplan said a prayer and all of us said the Lords Prayer each in our own different languages. We then lined up by the side of the church. With special 'knocks', we lifted the paso and then began the swaying walk down the steep slope to the main road. It was then we saw the huge crowds for the first time. The paso is longer than the width of the road so we had to walk into the crowd and pivot n order to swing the paso on its axis to get into position to start at the church door. This manoeuvre is necessary at every corner on route; sometimes walking over people who would not move. The experience is emotional – a hand will touch my arm and a tear faced lady will say “gracias” - old men will doff their hats – young men with arms crossed will nod an approval - teenagers will shout “Viva El Huerto” and five year olds will gaze upwards to the paso inches away and two stories high with their mouth open. Our costaleros come from France, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Brasil, Argentina, the UK and Ireland and there is never a problem with language and we all feel as one. I have carried it every time since 2005 but at 77 next year it is time to call it a day and I will regret not being part of it as well as being their physio. In essence it's a post Christmas push to build trade in time for the Christmas rush. Sales started two weeks ago, and will continue through next week with many market experts predicting that Black Friday 2016 would be the biggest ever. Black Friday follows Thanksgiving (Thursday) in the Gold Ol' USA and heralds in the holiday season, and by effect, the shopping season. And while you may have blinked and missed it yesterday, no worries, as the Austrailian's might say, because you still have ‘Cyber Monday’ to look forward to. Adobe Digital Insights predicts sales on the day of Black Friday will touch $3 billion for the first time, with the entire holiday season – measured as November 1 to December 31 by Adobe – expected to grow 11 percent year-overyear to hit $91.6 billion overall in the US itself. Car Hire Lefties: Couple 'forget' baby in hire car as they rush to catch a flight Some of the most unusual things left in hire cars by holidaymakers rushing to catch flights home this summer included a baby, a West Highland Terrier and a bag of sex toys. One multinational company said it often finds electronic items such as iPads and clothing, but this year was a first when a couple left their baby strapped in its car seat. "It's not every day that parents leave a child in the back of one of our cars and fortunately, in this case, it didn't take them long to realise they were missing something," said their client service director Tonica. "Our customers are often in a hurry to catch a flight or a train when returning their cars to our network of over 80 offices, so it can be quite amusing at times to see what they leave behind."

Suitcase Full of Cash: Not suspicious. Not at all. The small suitcase, left in a rental near Heathrow Airport, was found to contain several thousand pounds in cash. Promptly returned to its owner who missed their flight in coming to retrieve it, the suitcase full of cash officially remains a mystery though there is much speculation among the rental office agents. Batman Costume: Apparently Del Boy's Batman was planning a comeback. The very odd, adult-sized batman mask was stashed inside the console of a car hire in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Supporting President Trump by Raymond Kearney Hillary Clinton received 1.6 million votes more than Donald Trump in the US Presidential Election but because of the delegate system (electoral votes) that they have, she lost the “Key” states. That is to say, the states that have the most delegates and so Donald Trump is the US President Elect. But all electoral systems have their strong and weak points. Those who have supported Donald Trump will have no problem in accepting a post in his cabinet or in other roles of importance but there will be many who did not support him or who were vocal in their condemnation that will have a real conflict if they are asked to now support the new administration. The American people voted for change: not the usual type of change from one party to another but this time from a succession of diplomatic politicians to a controversial and unconventional businessman. The American people were prepared to overlook Donald Trump’s human failings, weaknesses, morals and total lack of diplomacy to get a business approach to how America should be

run. To be fair and on the good side, in general, politicians reward their cronies and backers whereas businessmen appoint the most skilled people for the job they are expected to do and who put the company first. Donald Trump does not give a hoot about being Mr. Nice Guy; he doesn’t care about who he offends; if he perceives that someone stands in his way, he will attack them. After an opponent is no longer an obstacle to his goals, he seems to be prepared to forget their past opposition and capitalize on their strengths. Donald Trump wants to run the United States of America like a Fortune 500 company. If there is a trade deal that takes jobs away from the USA, he will scrap it. If another country puts forward a real win/win proposal, he will listen to it. If a country behaves in an anti-American way, he will sanction it or even attack it. If a certain group of people seem to act against American interests he will act against them. Donald Trump sees himself as the CEO of USA PLC. His company mission statement is probably to be the biggest, best and most profitable public limited company (PLC) in the world. We have seen in his campaign that he will say or do anything to achieve his goals. People everywhere

are full of doom and gloom and understandably see this upcoming Presidency as dangerous for the whole world. They wonder who could stop Mr. Trump from figuratively or actually pressing the big red button? ISIS? Theresa May? Angela Merkel? Vladimir Putin? His foreign allies and enemies have little influence on him.

There are only a few who may be able to help the world; they are those people who do accept cabinet and other important posts. They will have the most influence on him; these are the people who will be able to provide President Trump with a moral and diplomatic compass. I have a question for people with high moral standards like Mitt Romney, which would be better? Leave President Trump alone with people of dubious moral and ethical standards to implement his ideas or to accept any position of influence with him? For those of high standards, four years working with President Trump trying to smooth troubled waters could be like an eternity. Maybe this is Mitt Romney’s destiny, not to be US President himself but to be the man who helps steer the new President onto correct paths.

Do They Know It's Christmas? Recorded back on November 25th 1984 and Released on 3rd December 1984, was the charity single that would establish a benchmark for all to follow: Band Aid and Do They Know It's Christmas? / Feed The World. Written in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in reaction to television reports of the 1983–85 famine in Ethiopia. It entered the UK Singles Chart at number one and stayed there for five weeks, becoming the Christmas number one of 1984. The record became the fastest selling single in UK chart history, selling a million copies in the first week alone and passing 3 million on the last day of 1984, on the way to becoming the biggest selling single of all time in the UK. It held this title until 1997 when it was overtaken by Elton John's "Candle in the Wind 1997", released in tribute to Princess Diana following her death. The original version of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" has sold 3.78 million copies in the UK to date. The song was also a major success around the world, reaching number one in thirteen other countries outside the UK. In the US, the single fell short of the top ten in the Billboard Hot 100 due to a lack of airplay, but it had sold an estimated 2.5 million copies in the US by January 1985. Worldwide the single had sold 11.7 million copies by 1989. Geldof's cautious hope was that the single would raise £70,000 for Ethiopia, but in the event "Do They Know It's Christmas?" raised £8 million

within twelve months of release. The single's worldwide success in raising awareness and financial relief for the victims of the Ethiopian famine led the recording of several other charity singles in the UK and in other countries, such as "We Are the World" by USA for Africa. The song also led to various spin-off charity events, such as Comic Relief, and the Live Aid concert which would take place seven months later in July 1985. "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was re-recorded three times: in 1989, 2004, and 2014. All the rerecordings were also charity records; the 1989 and 2004 versions also provide money for famine relief, while the 2014 version was used to raise funds for the Ebola crisis in West Africa. All three of these versions also reached number one in the UK, and the 2004 version of the song was also a UK million seller, with 1.17 million copies sold.

Following this month's release of three new Frank Zappa albums, the Zappa Family Trust and UMe are continuing their extensive reissue campaign by releasing five iconic works of the musical innovator on vinyl for the first time in decades: Cruising With Ruben & The Jets, Joe's Garage, Lumpy Gravy, Weasels Ripped My Flesh and We're Only In It For The Money. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Zappa's first release, the Mothers of Invention's debut album Freak Out!, and to celebrate the Zappa Family Trust and UMe are steadily reissuing the cultural icon's catalog and rarities from his famed vault on CD, LP and digitally as part of a long-term licensing agreement. The five vinyl releases follow new albums Meat Light (The Uncle Meat Project/Object Audio Documentary) Little Dots and Chicago '78, released earlier this month, and several other exciting projects. The self-produced album became one of his personal favourites. The LP will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl from a pristine 1968 analog safety tape found in Zappa's vault. In the top 300 of Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums, We're Only In It for the Money is a scathing satire of right-versus-left politics that's as fresh in today's charged political atmosphere as it was upon release in 1968. In part a parody of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the album pits the hippies against the squares, skewering them equally, as pawns held sway by corporate sellouts catering to the masses in the name of profit. The restored original 1968 mix is pressed on 180-gram vinyl from FZ's approved Digital Master. Cruising with Ruben & The Jets is the fourth Mothers of Invention album. Released at the end of 1968, the concept album was written in the style of 1950s doo-wop and classic R&B, a childhood love of Zappa's and members of the band, including singer

Weasels Ripped My Flesh is the last album of recordings made by the original Mothers of Invention lineup released after it was disbanded by Zappa. The group, which included a horn section, made the blend of studio and live experimental and traditional tracks from 1967-69. Weasels Ripped My Flesh, released in 1970, provides a fascinating look at the group's range and diversity of influences, from avantgarde tracks like "Didja Get Any Onya" to the straightup R&B of their cover of Little Richard's "Directly From My Heart to You." In an interesting historical footnote, Lowell George makes an appearance here with the band previous to forming Little Feat with bass player Roy Estrada. Conceptually and musically as challenging as anything Zappa released in the 1970s, three-act rock opera Joe's Garage was released as two separate packages in 1979 (the new release arrives as a threeLP set). Zappa described the dystopian tale as "a stupid little story about how the government is going to do away with music." The rock opera proved prophetic years later when the government began to examine ways to limit the spread of explicit content in music. The song cycle, conceived over a weekend, tells the story of a young rock 'n' roller who's thrown into prison and released into a world turned upside down by evil corporate, political and religious forces who've outlawed music. Zappa used the practice of "xenochrony" to record parts of the album, taking previously cut live guitar solos and overdubbing them onto new studio tracks. This 2016 vinyl edition is mastered in all analog by Bernie Grundman using the 1979 1/4" safety master tapes from The Vault.

In honour of Capitol Records' 75th anniversary, A Capitol Christmas presents some of the most cherished holiday classics from Capitol's vast catalog and legendary artists. His Christmas single for Capitol, "Do You Hear What I Hear," a call and response arrangement with the Ralph Carmichael Singers, became a worldwide hit. Singer, songwriter and actress Peggy Lee spent an illustrious 30 years on Capitol and the selections of hers span her tenure at the label. The gentle "A Christmas Spell," arranged by her then-husband and frequent collaborator, guitarist Dave Barbour, was originally released as a single in 1949. "Like A Sleighride," Lee's jazzy adaptation of "Jingle Bells," is from her sumptuous 1960 holiday album, Christmas Carousel. No holiday collection would be complete without the seductive duet, "Baby, It's Cold Outside," of which continues to be recorded by scores of artists year after year. The version here features Capitol Records co-founder Johnny Mercer, the world-class songwriter and recording artist, along with Margaret Whiting. Mercer's swinging "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" from 1947 shows off his croon alongside the vocal stylings of the Pied Pipers. (perhaps not wise to name names) We often play at a nudist beach in Almeria and Sergio says that he once saw the rare and not often seen Golden Cockwomble !!!!! After Hours at Papillon Bar/Restaurante Tell us about yourselves My name is Andrea and I am originally from Germany. I own and run Papillon Bar & Restaurant along with my lovely staff. I have lived in Spain for 29 years. This is the third bar/restaurant I have had and, great as it has been, it will definitely be my last. Before I did all this I used to do translating for the police; Spanish – English – German. What made you open a bar? Well, apart from doing the translating, I reckon I can’t do anything else, not on a long-term basis anyway. I guess you can say I am addicted to hard work… and you certainly get plenty of that in this trade. Where did the inspiration for the name come from? “Papillon” is a lovely word, it is French for ‘butterfly’. It just sort of flew to me… apologies for the pun, but the name just came into my head and I liked it so that is what we became. We are informally known as ‘the Most International bar’ as our clients are from so many different parts of the world. I suppose it helps that I speak a number of languages. Apart from German, English and Spanish I get by in a few others,

including Dutch, Norwegian.

Who does the cooking? And how would you describe your style? I do most of the cooking. I like to prepare home-made dishes. I am talking mainly English, German and Spanish, although with the cosmopolitan nature of our clientele there are often other influences thrown into the mix. Thankfully they seem to appreciate the variety. What’s your favourite dish on the menu? Being from Germany I love schnitzel and we have a ‘schnitzel day’ each week. I also have a taste for good old English style fish- in- batter and

Favourite day of the week? I mentioned schnitzel day. This is on a Wednesday so I always look forward to that. I also like our music nights as I love all sorts of music, especially when it is live. In the winter that is normally Fridays and Saturdays.

We were together for a long time and although it didn’t work out in the end we are still friends to this day. Another amusing story is of a lady, I’m not sure of her nationality but we spoke in English, and she asked me what was the German word for ‘peace’, as in ‘peace after war’. I told her it was ‘Frieden’. Her next question was “So how do you say mushy peas?”

Any interesting tales? A few years ago we had a British man who came in regularly and all the other customers used to remark on how exceptionally grumpy he was. However he was not grumpy with me.

Children In Need 2016

People from across the UK have come together once again to raise a phenomenal £46,624,259 for BBC Children in Need. Live on BBC One and Two from 7.30pm on Friday until the early hours of Saturday morning, the 2016 Appeal show marked the crescendo of this year’s fundraising activities for BBC Children in Need with a special night of family entertainment to help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

The Children In Need live appeal show raised nearly £47 million as the show paid tribute to the late Sir Terry Wogan. Presenter Rochelle Humes said that Sir Terry would have been "proud" of the "absolutely incredible" amount raised on the first appeal night since his death. The much loved broadcaster hosted the annual charity event for 35 years until 2015 when he was forced to pull out due to poor health. He passed away in January. Friday's star-studded event raised £46,624,259 - a huge rise on last year's £37.1 million.

Announcing the sum, Mrs Humes said: "That's absolutely incredible and I just know how proud Sir Terry would have been." In tribute to Sir Terry, his son Mark gave out the first Sir Terry Wogan Fundraiser of the Year Award. Mark told the audience: "It was his favourite night of the year, mainly because the money raised tonight and through the year actually made a difference to people, that's why he loved it." The first winner of the prize was Lauchlan Muir from West Lothian, who raises money by being a human statue. Mark said: "Dad always said Children In Need was the thing he was most proud of in his entire career. He said he was just one player in a massive team and that you at home were the real stars. "It was always about helping the children, for him."

Luftikid: Safety Seat for Kids

PASTIMES The classic micro car boom The Classic Microcars in Spain By David Hudson In the last year a huge surge of micro cars has spawned a number of National and International Concentrations around Spain especially in this area. There is a local microcar club in Almoradi. With it there is an increase in the value of these unique and historic micro cars that reflected a period mostly forgotten of hardship and rationing.

This trend has meant that from a few thousand euros two years ago to purchase the 1954 Biscuter now sells from 10,500€ while the Isetta 3 wheeler starts at 25,000€. The Bond 3 wheeler is 11,000€ and the four wheel PTV 18,000€. The unique 3 wheel Messerschmitt 200cc will cost 17,500€ and the four wheeled Messerschmitt 500cc will cost you over 25,000€ if you can get one. The International meeting held in Marrese in June was the home town of Sr. Peramon who was one of the founders of

the Spanish PTV Company that made these micro cars and attracted micro cars from France, Germany, Holland, Austria, Portugal and the UK as well as from Madrid, Balearic, Albacette and Valencia. There were a number of unique prototypes plus the Spanish Sports PTV 400 with swarms of Messerschmitts 200cc and 500cc. The micro cars also included the Spanish Biscuter, Autobianchi Bianchina, Berkeley, Puch, Kapi, Isetta, Goggomobil, Heinkel, NSU, Vespa, Velorex . These unusual names mostly came from Germany because the plane manufacturing was banned. The companies turned to other projects which included micro cars especially the Messerschmitt and Heinkel plane makers. My Messerschmitt 200cc was my first micro car and was the most exiting though only getting 70mph top speed it was just a few inches from the road and being in a enclosed perspex "cockpit" you seemed to travel much faster and going into the corners on the 1950s roads with its winding roads and tight blind corners it was better than the Fairground rides. I travelled to London to buy the Messerschmitt and though I had no experience in driving a car I returned to Abingdon a distance of 70 miles with no problem even the rush hour was not a problem. I remember picking up a Red Beret parachuter near Newbury who was hitching a ride back to the RAF Barracks in Abingdon. The Messerschmitt being designed as a cockpit we flew along the roads with him behind me. Getting out at the Guards house in Abingdon he told me that it was one of the best experiences he had had. Not everyone appreciated the riding experience as my mother proved. I said that I would save her the 2 mile walk into town by taking her in the Messerschmitt. When we got to the shops my mother got out and in a high voice told me that she would never get “into that thing again!” As a foot note to reverse you switched the engine to run in reverse that allowed you to travel backwards in four gears! The unique front lights gave a flat beam flooding the road in front of you which made the problem of dipping the main beam using your feet while trying to change gear and brake easier because you could drive on dip lights all the time. My second micro car was a three wheeler fibre glass Berkeley sports car that had a 2 stroke 2 cylinder Enfeild 328cc engine which had plenty of poke and being a single rear wheel layout you could drift it around tight corners without taking your foot of the pedal. It was a lot bigger which meant that Angie and I could sit side by side and not have to shout as we did in the Messerschmitt

with Angie behind me. The Berkely only produced about 1000. If you have not guessed these micro cars are a lot of fun and unique and in the 50s they gave you 100mpg or more. The Spanish like most of Europe in the 50s wanted a cheap easy to run car and set about producing ideas on solving this problem with the limited raw material available from the devastated industry left by the civil war and the world war. Three people set about producing their own type of micro car by forming the PTV Company which were to manufacture vehicles from 1956 until 1961 and it was in direct competition to the SEAT 600. Giuillen Tacho was born in Altea (Alicante) on 13 March 1912 and after serving his apprenticeship he worked for Hispanio-Suiza where he learnt many secrets and gain experience on building the motor cars and developing engines and in 1932 he formed the Garage Tacho where he also distributed Renault cars and Montesa motorcycles. He then started developing engines and designing cars. In 1950 he with his brother Antoni and Josep Villa produced their first Microcar

which was developed by Tacho and called Ballena then in 1953 was followed by the second micro car called Coca. In 1956 Guillen's brother, Antoni with Josep Villa formed AUSA (Automoviles Utilianes) SA. The company separated the micro car section and called it PTV Company after the main Directors Srs. Perramon, Tacho and Vidal and was responsible for the manufacture the micro cars in Bages. On 11th July this year, Maurice Perramon died at the age of 89 and Guillen Tacho died on 7th August 2014. Both of them were still involved in the restoration of the micro cars with Tcaho's nephew Toni and Xavier Perramon taking over the reins of keeping a little part of the Spanish motoring history alive. The PTV 400 had a 250cc engine though a 350cc was developed but not put into production. It was the second most popular micro car in Spain with the Biscuter the number one. Like in the UK of the 50s it was easier and cheaper to drive than a car needing only the motorcycle licence. They went the way of the UK that when affluence arrived in Spain the 600 was to take over from it but that is another story.

Ten Easy Ways To Safeguard Your Car Two in five car owners don’t appear to think twice about leaving their car keys with a stranger, despite the potential security risk, according to the results of a YouGov consumer survey published today by the automotive industry, government, police and insurance bodies. Responding to police figures showing reported incidents rose by 8% in the year to March 2016, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Home Office, Metropolitan Police Service and Thatcham Research, the motor insurers’ automotive research centre, have joined forces to understand the nature of modern day car theft and develop solutions to tackle it.

Modern Cars Are Too Big For Britain’s Ageing Parking Spaces Popularity of giant SUVs possible factor in 35% surge in parking prangs costing £1.4bn per year, says Accident Exchange. Some car parks now ‘no-go’ areas as 87% of councils use outdated government guidelines of 4.8 x 2.4 meters. Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class and BMW X5 too large for average parking bay. Britain’s car parking spaces are too small to cope with consumers’ love affair with big family SUVs, and Spain's older Car Parks all face the same problems. The average parking space is just 4.8 metres long and 2.4 wide**, however, popular SUVs like the Audi Q7 and Mercedes-Benz GL-Class measure in at five metres plus, and nearly two metres wide. With the added challenge of pillars and tight ramps in multi-storey car parks, manoeuvring larger vehicles is now making some car parks ‘no-go’ areas for Britain’s motorists. The research undertaken by Accident Exchange, which assists vehicle manufacturers and dealerships in keeping motorists mobile in the event of an accident, estimated a 35 per cent increase in parking prangs since 2014, and the meteoric rise of SUVs could be a factor.

The study, which measured the growth of some of the most popular vehicles in the UK, found that the latest Corsa had undergone the biggest change to its size over a 15-year period. The popular hatchback has expanded by a staggering 16%, a trend that persists across most vehicle segments.

With an average bill of £2,050 to repair accidentdamaged vehicles, parking-related incidents now account for more than 30% of all accidents. It is now estimated that there are over 675,000 car parking collisions of this type annually – a staggering 1,859 every day. The SUV segment has enjoyed huge success in the UK, with figures in February alone revealing an 44% rise compared to the same month last year, which could be a factor in the alarming rise in parking prangs, despite packing technology to avoid accidents. It’s not just the popularity of SUVs which is impacting the average size of vehicles, smaller vehicles like the Vauxhall Corsa are significantly larger than their counterparts just 15 years ago.

Scott Hamilton-Cooper, Director of Operations at Accident Exchange, commented; “Drivers are having to squeeze increasingly large cars into spaces that generally haven’t got any larger for a very long time. Almost all of the councils we researched carried over the government’s recommendation, which makes things tight for large cars. This could be contributing to the rise in car parking incidents we are seeing. Manufacturers follow the market, and so cars are outgrowing parking spaces. “Not only are popular SUVs usurping smaller hatchbacks when it comes to new cars sales, older smaller cars are being taken off the street. The undoubted success of the SUV segment will have played its part – perhaps the roads aren’t quite ready for them because some drivers feel certain car parks are no-go areas due the sheer length and width of their cars.” The recent study examined over 85,000 incidents recorded by Accident Exchange between mid-2013 and August 2016.

I will be returning to the whole question about low emissions in cities and the pressure to use an electric car at a later time. This attitude could be the start of the end to the freedom in driving a classic as it is in some parts of Germany.

Non-Resident Tax Declarations Deadline Approaches December 31st By Andreu & Alenda Lawyers The deadline for the non-resident tax declarations is set for December 31st. Many expats ask us if they have to do this formal tax declarations. The answer is simple: YES, YOU MUST. You are considered a resident, by the Spanish Inland Revenue, if you live in Spain for more than 183 days per year. Under that period of time you can be considered as nonresident. All people living in Spain are subject to taxes: residents and nonresidents. December 31st is the time limit to present the annual imputed income tax and rental tax, if you are

renting out your property. This refers to the previous year of 2015 (not 2016). Even if you only own a property in Spain, you must file in the form. Not complying with your fiscal and taxation obligations, or if you file it late, might incur a penalty or might affect your property, if you want to sell it. In addition to the above, you will be required to pay tax geared penalties and interest on any outstanding tax payments. WHAT IS THE PRESCRIPTION OF TRAFFIC TICKETS? By Andreu & Alenda Lawyers Prescription is the legal figure by virtue of which, for a period of time (set by the law in each case): when a 'right' is lost. The time to exercise a 'right' expires. It is when the administration loses the right to claim a payment of a traffic ticket as the time has passed. In this case, the administration is the Dirección General de Tráfico (General Traffic Directorate), City Halls or other public bodies are capable to impose fines. When do traffic tickets expire? The term to execute economical fines expires after four years of its imposition. If the fine is of any other nature, it expires after one year (RDLeg

339/1990 Article 92.4). In both cases, the limitation period begins to count from the day after the Administration declares the sanction to be final (it cannot be appealed).

How is the prescription period calculated? The limitation period begins to count from the day after the traffic ticket cannot be appealed and it is considered firm. However, this period may be interrupted. The limitation period may be interrupted by administrative activity held by the competent body to claim that fine. This means that as long as the Administration is working on your file, for example, trying to get the accused off the fine, through notifying them by all means, the counting of the term stops. The countdown starts again the day after the Administration leaves the file paralysed and does nothing with it. The prescription penalises the administration for their inactivity. So sometimes, citizens are lucky and the administrations forgets about them.

Being Abused By The Electric Company By Andreu & Alenda legalservice@andreualenda.com

For many years, the electricity company IBERDROLA, through its distribution company, has issued invoices to its customers for exorbitant amounts. They have accused some customers of having manipulated their electrical meter counter to read a lesser amount than their actual electrical consumption; thus avoiding paying higher chargers, than the one paid. Iberdrola practices a policy of 'subjective regularisation', taking into account the supposed consumption of electricity that they think you should have made during the period in which the consumer has supposedly carried out the manipulation of the meter. In most cases these invoices are accompanied by a very brief report of a technical inspector, carried out without prior notice to the consumer so that they canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t be present during the inspection and making it impossible for them to be able to check the reality of this situation. Thus, the consumer, even though they are totally uninformed of the rights that they have by Iberdrola, is placed in a position of submission based on what is stated in the technical report. Clients have to face paying higher charges, against their will, and pay whatever amount that

Iberdrola has decided to impose at its discretion, because the non-payment of the bill entails cutting off their electricity supply and thus depriving clients of their basic needs. Thus the client is guilty until proven innocent. Faced with this situation, the consumer tries by all possible means to contact the electricity company for an explanation of their bill and, above all, to see for themselves the 'clear evidence' of the accusation made against them. Phone calls to the company are eternal: they pass you through one operator to another, they just say that the information presented in the invoice is what they have on their computer, thus avoiding proving a real answer to the question. They do not give you any way to amend the situation or to prove a means to prove otherwise; they just recommend that you pay the invoice or to go court. The electric company acts in a totally authoritarian way, granting the consumer a deadline to pay the invoice, while warning that otherwise the supply will be cut. What is significant is that the contract holder is accused by the company without any evidence and they are considered guilty of manipulated their Electric Meter until proven otherwise. Surprisingly, Iberdrola issue bills for the amount of 2,500â&#x201A;Ź, or higher, which forces the consumer, if they want to protest and to appeal the invoice, to go to court.To do so they require the assistance of a lawyer and be represented by a court prosecutor, with a high cost for legal fees. In addition to this, you are forced to

pay the high electricity bill regardless, if you do not want your electric supply to be cut-off: as we all know that Justice in Spain does not happen quickly. Are You A Charity Group? This Might Interest you. How To Legally Constitute An Association By Andreu & Alenda Lawyers There are numerous and varied non-profit associations that carry out activities along the coast. But are they all created in accordance with the law in force? Do members know the benefits of being official? Probably not, nor have they been constituted in accordance with legality and are simply a group of citizens with good intentions. They are probably unaware of the fiscal and economic advantages that would benefit them if they had done so officially. The establishment of an Association is made through the express agreement of three or more parties, legal or corporate, legally constituted, committing themselves to share knowledge, means and activities in order to achieve licit and common purposes for general or particular interest through a non-profit. The operation of the association will be ruled and governed by the agreement made through a founding act; signed by all the founders parties. Once it signed, the association acquires its legal personality and the full capacity to go through, even though if it has not yet been fulfilled with the obligation of registration in the corresponding register. The fact that the association is non-profit implies that the benefits cannot be shared among the partners, but that does not mean that activities that generate economic income for the association cannot be carried out and that they might obtain an economic benefit at the end of the year. The way to establish an association starts when the founders intending to create the association and lay down its basic points. These

points are drafted in the Statutes and are approved by means of the so called Founding Act. All the founders need to sign all the pages of these documents. We recommend drafting four copies, as we will need them later. This constitutional act needs to be inscribed in the public registry of associations. Depending on the scope of action of the activities that will be held by the entity, the registry will be the local, provincial or a national one. If the scope of action of the entity is less than the territory of an Autonomous Community (eg local or regional), registration should be made in the Registry of Autonomous Associations, however, if the scope of action affects more than one autonomous community (Although not the entire state), the registration must be done in the National Register of Associations. You will need to submit the application form according to the model standardized by the registry, plus two copies of the Founding Act and the statues, the identification of the promoters in the founding act (name and surname, domicile, nationality and NIF/NIE) and the payment of the corresponding fees. Once all the documentation has been submitted in the register, they must respond within three months: you can consider the application formally registered in the event that no response is received within that period. The registry will keep one of the copies presented and will return the other copy with the seal stamped as registered copy. Once this registration process has been

carried out, the association should apply for the fiscal identification number to the Inland Revenue. They will have to declare the starting of the activity by means of the Declaracion Censal (form 036). They will declare in this form the type of activity to be carried out by the association. We always recommend to inscribe the association before the town hall of its domicile and those where they will be acting. Towns Halls usually have a small budget line to help economically the associations providing subsidies. To become an association has advantages and disadvantages. It is an advantage, that they can accept donations and that they are beneficiaries of some tax relief, this tax relief can also be enjoyed by those people or entities that help them financially. Being declared an association of Public Utility is an incentive for donors. In addition, being an association has a marketing profit as a "seal of guarantee" that, in some way, endorses the good work carried out for the purpose pursued. Disadvantages, it is clear that the enjoyment of such tax advantages entails a series of fiscal and legal obligations that must be complied. On Wednesday 23rd of November 2016, history was made on the Costa Blanca for the expat community. In a cosy cafe setting at The Clubhouse Restaurant in Ciudad Quesada, Rojales, was held the very first Death Cafe on mainland in Spain in English. The event was organized by Denise Fruehauf Washbourne and sponsored by Grupo ASV Funeral Services. Months of planning and preparation took place to really make sure the Death Cafe was something spectacular that people would remember. The turnout was great. Denise, Antonio and the ASV team made sure everyone felt welcome and all of their questions were answered. But who exactly are Grupo ASV and what is a Death Cafe? Grupo ASV was founded in 1928. In 1987 they opened their very first funeral parlour, which at the time was the 10th largest in Spain. Today Grupo ASV are one of the largest funeral services groups in Spain especially in the regions of Andalusia and Levante, helping over 20.000 families every year with dignity, humility and respect. The idea originates from a man called Bernard Crettaz a Swiss sociologist who organized the first ever “Cafe Mortel" in 2004, with the idea of braking the “tyrannical secrecy” surrounding the topic of Death. The idea of a Death Cafe was brought to the attention of Antonio the Director of Grupo ASV for the Veja Baja region, by the Costa Blanca most popular Civil Funeral Celebrant Denise Fruehauf Washbourne. Denise is a Civil Celebrant here for the expats. After working with bereaved families Denise has learnt the difficulties people face with the understanding of how the funeral system works here in Spain. what exactly will happen when the day comes. At 11 am promptly the doors opened and people began pilling in. The turnout was overwhelming with everyone excited to see exactly what was on the “menu”. The Death Cafe Menu was actually placed on the table to help people feel more comfortable knowing where to start on this “taboo” subject. For Starters we had: Is there such a thing as a good funeral? Religious or Civil Ceremony? Main Course: Do you know what happens here in Spain and the process compared to the U.K? What do you expect in/of a funeral? Dessert: Organ and body Donation Your “wishes” list: Leaving your loved ones a note or a letter To end they held a Q & A session for anyone wanting to ask anything that might have been brought up over the

morning. Within minutes of grabbing their complimentary coffee and cake people where finding their table and opening up to each other about this thing called “Death” we all hate talking about. There were smiles and laughter from almost every table, like a sign of relief as if to say. Both Antonio and Denise took it in turns to visit every table and talk to people about their individual worries and questions, while encouraging them to write them down on the note pads that had been provided for the Q & A session being held at the end for the morning. Whilst all this was going on I was also lucky enough to go from table to table and speak with people about why they came along to this unique event. The response from all of them was astounding. Positive comments were flying at me. There were people from all ages. Nicole, a career woman in her early 30s, was glad to have found correct and professional answers to give to her clients. Susan, a retired woman in her 60s, was not sure exactly what would happen to her ashes when she passed and if her family could eventually be able to fly them over to U.K., and Antonio informed that Grupo ASV could arrange everything for her family so they would not have to worry about anything. I myself had always wondered how I would go about donating my organs after death. And this was one of the questions that was asked. I was surprised even this was a very simple process. If we visit our local hospital they can provide with a donors card. All we need to do is make sure we carry it on us or our next of kin knows where to find it. So many more questions were asked. And even more great information was shared throughout the day with everyone there. But I really do not want to spoil the fun for everyone! November 22, 1963: Death of the President Fifty-Three years ago, on 25 November 1963, JFK was laid to rest. Shortly after noon on November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated as he rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas. It was a day that those old enough to remember it, can most likely place themselves back to the exact time and place when they first heard the news. By the Autumn of 1963, President John F. Kennedy and his political advisers were preparing for the next presidential campaign. Although he had not formally announced his candidacy, it was clear that President Kennedy was going to run and he seemed confident about his chances for reelection. At the end of September, the president traveled west, speaking in nine different states in less than a week. The trip was meant to put a spotlight on natural resources and conservation efforts. But JFK also used it to sound out themes— such as education, national security, and world peace—for his run in 1964. On November 21, the president and first lady departed on Air Force One for the two-day, five-city tour of Texas. A light rain was falling on Friday morning, November 22, but a crowd of several thousand stood in the parking lot outside the Texas Hotel where the Kennedys had spent the night. The warmth of the audience response was palpable as the president reached out to shake hands amidst a sea of smiling faces. Back inside the hotel the president spoke at a breakfast of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, focusing on military preparedness. "We are still the keystone in the arch of freedom," he said. "We will continue to do…our duty, and the people of Texas will be in the lead." The presidential party left the hotel President and Mrs. Kennedy at Love Field, Dallas, Texasand went by motorcade to Carswell Air Force Base for the thirteen-minute flight to Dallas. Arriving at

The first lady received a bouquet of red roses, which she brought with her to the waiting limousine. Governor John Connally and his wife, Nellie, were already seated in the open convertible as the Kennedys entered and sat behind them. Since it was no longer raining, the plastic bubble top had been left off. Vice President and Mrs. Johnson occupied another car in the motorcade. The procession left the airport and traveled along a ten-mile route that wound through downtown Dallas on the way to the Trade Mart where the President was scheduled to speak at a luncheon. The Assassination Crowds of excited people lined the streets and waved to the Kennedys. The car turned off Main Street at Dealey Plaza around 12:30 p.m. As it was passing the Texas School Book Depository, gunfire suddenly reverberated in the plaza. Bullets struck the president's neck and head and he slumped over toward Mrs. Kennedy. The governor was also hit in the chest.

At Mrs. Kennedy's request, the cortege and other ceremonial details were modelled on the funeral of Abraham Lincoln. Crowds lined Pennsylvania Avenue and many wept openly as the caisson passed. During the 21 hours that the president's body lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda, about 250,000 people filed by to pay their respects. President Kennedy Lies in Repose at White HouseOn Monday, November 25, 1963 President Kennedy was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery. The funeral was attended by heads of state and representatives from more than 100 countries, with untold millions more watching on television. Afterward, at the grave site, Mrs. Kennedy and her husband's brothers, Robert and Edward, lit an eternal flame.

He was being held for the assassination of President Kennedy and the fatal shooting, shortly afterward, of Patrolman J. D. Tippit on a Dallas street. Over 40s Cricket Tournament It was the turn of the Spanish over 40s to make camp at La Manga resort, and it was Spain’s turn to host the Quadrangular Tournament and compete against Dansk XL from Denmark, SGS from Holland and The XL Club from the UK. This historic and competitive tournament sees the international over forty players compete in two competitions comprising of 45 overs, and T20. With the pitches at La Manga

going through a facelift, for once the wickets were not up to their usual high standard, however with some hard work and juggling fixtures around, the tournament went more or less to plan with good and bad news for the Spanish team. The 45 over competition was won by The XL Club from the UK with SGS coming runners up. The good news: The Spanish team dominated the T20 competition with 3 comfortable wins out of 3, and after four years playing in this tournament, having travelled to Copenhagen, Rotterdam and Newport in previous years, they had finally won their first trophy and on home soil. Stuart Simkins led the way in this competition with a breath-taking 146 No off 77 balls against Dansk XL followed by a 55 in his next match against SGS. Left hander David Williams was not to lose out, scoring 102 of 60 balls also in the match against SGS. The Quadrangular Tournament is not just about playing competitive cricket, it’s just as important for all teams to unite together after the game and share good stories and laughs together. The Spanish team has made many friends during its four years being involved in this tournament, and having been well looked after when they travelled to their friends countries, the team and the organisers did Cricket España proud in returning their kind hospitality, arranging after game events, Paella night, Spanish and Bollywood dancing, visit

If the first half was one sided, the second was even more so. A twice taken penalty right at the start of the second half was converted by Vaz for his second of the game. Alfredo made it 0-6 and further goals from Aure, Carlos, Dario and Coco completed the rout and a historic day for CD Montesinos who are a completely different side under the management team of Carlos Perez and Angel Ivan, two former FC Torrevieja players.
