SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES Letícia Bernardi Etz18 United Nations (UN) developed for a not so distant future, 17 goals to be accomplished until 2030. The Agenda 2030 is multidisciplinary and urgent and it requires strategies for the transformation of the Earth. In this scenario we are living, it is visible the impossibility of staying with the current model of development and the SDG11 (sustainable cities and communities) comes to try to change it. It is divided into seven little goals. The number one goal deals with the necessity of solving the problem of the lack of basic sanitation, housing and urbanization that does not bring any kind of benefit to the SDG11. In the dictionary sustainability is defined as something that can be sustainable, that can provide the needs with what it produces. Sustainable cities that adopt many efficient practices to improve the population’s quality of life, economic development and environmental preservation. Basic sanitation is a group of measures that aim at preserving or modifying the environment with the goal of preventing diseases, promoting health and improving the population's quality of life. Urbanization is basically the transformation process of a society, region or territory into urban, it means it does not represent just the population growth of the cities, but its growth in relation to the rural population. The lack of safe housing is a serious problem experienced in some Brazilian cities. It is lack of access to places with the basic conditions for housing. Similarly to several other goals in the Agenda 2030, the goal related to sustainable cities and communities has been developed by taking into account the housing sector, the Secretaria Nacional de Habitação do Ministério das Cidades, which coordinated the elaboration of Plano Nacional de Habitação (PlanHab). Its goal is to universalize the access to safe housing for all citizens. There is also the green streets, inspired by an initiative carried out in Chicago. The bike lanes and parking lots were paved with photocatalytic cement, which its composition reduces the pollution among other contributions to UN projects. With the present investigation, we can conclude that the Agenda 2030 promotes project for sustainable cities and communities and have a lot of benefits to the whole world. We also observed that in order to make sustainable cities we do not need much and we can start with small actions, for instance, to give garbage a proper destination, use renewable energies, among other things we can do together to make a difference.
