HELP US TO HELP LOCAL UNPAID CARERS

Carers Helensburgh & Lomond

SUPPORTING UNPAID CARERS

3-IN-5 The number of us who will be a carer at some point in our life

Making a positive difference to the lives of carers

Help to secure our financial future... Dear Helensburgh and Lomond resident, I am writing to ask for your help in supporting the unpaid carers in our communities. Everybody knows a carer. A parent with an autistic child. A young person with a parent, brother or sister, who needs support. A son or daughter looking after an ailing parent. An elderly person looking after a failing partner. And everybody knows that being a carer is demanding, stressful and time-consuming. In recent years Argyll & Bute Council and NHS Highland have taken on some responsibilities for carers. We carry out work on their behalf and they provide some of our funding. Otherwise we rely on donations, fund-raising events, volunteers, and above all grants from charities for particular activities. In the last 5 years we have secured over £500,000 of these grants, all of which have benefited local carers. Our work with young carers was funded by a grant to set up programmes for them. That grant has now ended and continuation of these programmes presents a funding challenge! To be able to fund this work properly and have the resources to apply for and secure grant funding in future we need to strengthen our funding base. Please help us to continue carrying out this extremely important work. Thank you.

Sir William Rae, “It’s important to support and appreciate all those behind the scenes working hard to maintain family lives and their environment. I designed the Young Carers dedicated room because it is essential we support and give them a space to be themselves”. John Amabile

Please join our financial supporters group. We will keep you informed about what we are doing through a twice-yearly newsletter and by inviting you to our annual members’ meeting. All donations from taxpayers are eligible for gift aid, which adds 25% to your gift, and higher rate tax payers can obtain further tax relief on donations. We promise that we will not bombard our financial supporters with further requests for funds!
