North central Massachusetts is a mosaic of diverse natural communities, small towns and urban centers. Through the work of conservation organizations, many areas of natural beauty and ecological value in the region have been preserved, but many areas remain threatened. The North County Land Trust (NCLT), a non-profit organization at work in the region since 1992, looks to assess the areas of highest conservation concern that are currently unprotected in the region. Using a combination of digital tools, a process
emerges from these pages that prioritizes unprotected areas based on NCLT’s values.
