The Depot Park project was initiatedin conjunction with the master plan toaddress specific concerns brought up byresidents (see sidebar) and to activateunused spaces. The focus area chosenfor the project was the former train depotand its surroundings, which anchor theeast side of the plaza. The space is wellsituated to connect to the public schools, natural areas in town, and the millionpeople who drive by on Highway 85 eachyear. As suggested in community meetings, the design for the Depot Park focuseson a few key groups. The first is childrenand teenagers from the nearby schools, for whom there are few gathering placesin town. The second is visitors to theChamber of Commerce, which will soonmove to occupy the train depot itself.
