Thatched Tavern, for the happy hours you spend with friends and family. This 13th century Thatched Tavern is more than just a pub on the edge of Cotswold. It’s a community asset to the village of Honeybourne. Think ‘chocolate box’ thatch appeal; exposed beams and ancient cruck construction; roaring fires in winter; beautiful gardens in summer, and delicious fare that showcases the very best of the British countryside, although there is more than a hint of the Mediterranean. The ‘Thatch’ is operated by The Honeybourne Pub Company, a local business headed up by Fay Mathias and her daughter Amy. Amy leads and manages on a day-to-day basis with the support of the family and head chef, Lee McDonald. They took over the pub on 2nd November 2020 and two days later were locked down by Covid. Fay saw this as the opportunity she needed to begin an extensive refurbishment to sympathetically restore and refresh this grade 11 listed historic pub. Heineken subsequently made a significant £135,000 investment in the Thatch, ready to serve allcomers during the Christmas party season and beyond. The Family responded to the Covid restrictions by developing a takeaway food menu with coffee

and cakes. This ensured customers continued to visit the Thatch, engaging them in how the work on the ‘Thatch’ was developing This warm and welcoming pub offers delicious food; fine ales, beers, wines and spirits. One visit will make you a regular! Thatched Tavern, 12 High Street, Honeybourne, Worcestershire WR11 7PQ T 01386 834273 E bookings@thatchedtavern.co.uk www.thatchedtavern.co.uk

Struggling with Menopause?

Gain the power to reclaim command of your life with DSJ Hypnotherapy

If you’re suffering the dismal effects of menopause or perimenopause, take heart! DSJ Hypnotherapy has solutions which can restore your confidence, lift your mood and give you control over wayward emotions. Women frequently suffer a range of unpleasant symptoms as their childbearing years end, releasing hormonal chaos. They find themselves feeling anxious, stressed, perhaps angry, with disturbed sleep, ‘brain fog’, hot flushes and inability to concentrate. Donna Jones, the registered nurse, clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist behind DSJ Hypnotherapy, can help. Not only does she have considerable professional expertise, she has also been there herself! Mother of two Donna had a total hysterectomy after suffering from painful endometriosis. Then, unexpectedly, she suffered the effects of ‘surgical menopause,’ experiencing depression, fatigue, anxiety, joint pain, insomnia and other symptoms. Herself a complementary therapist of more than 20 years’ experience, she signed up for hypnotherapy to see if it

could help. It was so successful that she decided to train in it herself and to specialise in this niche field, helping menopausal women to regain personal power and gain freedom from debilitating symptoms. As a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH), her techniques do not involve reliving past traumas, but rather helping clients to think differently about what they are experiencing, adjust attitudes and notice their own small victories. “I use clinically proven

techniques which are based on modern neuro-scientific research,” says Donna. “It isn’t a cure-all but it helps them to think about things in different ways, which opens up new neural pathways in the brain, bringing down anxiety levels and stress. That helps them to regain control and to feel happier and more confident.”

Call now to arrange a free initial consultation without obligation. DSJ Hypnotherapy 132 Henwick Rd, Worcester, WR2 5PB T 07944 111489 E dsj.hypno@outlook.com www.dsjhypno.co.uk

This unique shop in the centre of Pershore is just the place to browse for that elusive something different, from Bohemian clothing to colourful caricatures. The people behind this fascinating shop are Amanda and Andy Meanock, who met as art students and started out by buying Amanda’s parents’ market business. As they sold on the traditional stock of bags they replenished with Fair Trade goods from developing countries, ethically sourced goods from the UK and their own specialities, eventually moving into the Broad Street shop. Amanda specialises in 3D art and floral arrangements including seasonal wreaths and bouquets, made from flowers which are locally grown. Anance is named after the Greek goddess of necessity, that fabled mother of invention. The business is how creative mum Anita Gemmell has combined her love of crafting with a career and looking after two young sons. She started by helping a friend make paper flower bouquets, then went into jewellery making and sold at craft fairs. When her first baby arrived, she switched to making box frames holding displays, pictures and mottos for friends and family. Then, she challenged herself to learn new skills every week and soon the hobby became a home-based business. Now, Anita sells a wide range of items for men, women, children, valentines, and indeed anybody who is anything in someone else’s life. She takes great care in making every item, whether they be pretty Christmas tree decorations,

personalised baby gifts or amusing keepsakes. Anance also delivers excellent customer service. “It’s snowballed since I started six or seven years ago,” says Anita. “I love making things and I hope my customers love shopping for them.” Anance, Bromsgrove T 07809 836935 E info@anance.co.uk www.anance.co.uk Facebook, Twitter, Instagram @ AnanceHCA

Hodgehill started as a modest concern selling tomatoes from a shed. Now it is a fabulous destination in its own right, comprising a top quality farm shop, garden centre and café offering some of the finest fare to be found anywhere in Worcestershire. Success has come from a commitment to excellence by the Needham family owners and a determination to give the public a premium experience, including a very pleasant shopping environment which is dog friendly, even in the café. General Manager Ben Brookes says: “A big thing for us is sourcing everything as locally as possible, from independent businesses, and promoting it through the café. Everything we serve in the café is also sold through our Farm Shop” The farm shop stocks the freshest and finest of local foods, from fruit and vegetables grown in Worcestershire to meat farmed with the highest standards of animal welfare and tracked ‘from field to fork.’ The enterprise has grown to encompass artisan products across bakery, dairy and frozen

foods, ready made meals and locally manufactured beers, ciders, spirits, wines and soft drinks. Fish is delivered fresh from Devon and Cornwall and in the delicatessen you’ll find continental-style olives and antipasti, cold meats, pastries and speciality cheeses. Kitchen staples, jams and pickles are also sold. The on-site café is staffed by a highly experienced and enthusiastic team of chefs. Their delicious menus for breakfast, lunch and lite bites showcase the all-round farm shop ingredients, including meat from the Hodgehill butchery. They are regularly changed to take advantage of seasonal arrivals such as

asparagus and strawberries. Another major part of the Hodgehill presence is the Garden Centre, with large selections of both indoor and outdoor plants. Multiple deliveries every week ensuring lots of customer choice, good prices and always something in flower. In addition, you can find a great selection of hand-crafted garden furniture, woodburners and stoves. Lewis Carroll Lodge in Cheltenham celebrates ‘Friendship Month’

C

hurchill Retirement Living is encouraging older people in Cheltenham to leave loneliness behind and make new friends at its Lewis Carroll Lodge development. It comes as new research shows that a quarter of older people would like to make a new pool of friends but have no idea where to start. A survey of 1,000 people aged 65 and over revealed 30 per cent think they have lost the art of small talk as they have got older. And almost half (45 per cent) don’t feel like they spend enough time socialising. Overall, a third of older people admitted they have experienced loneliness – a feeling which can cause the decline of both their physical and mental health.

Your new carpet. In the shop today, in your home tomorrow Craycombe Carpets is an independent flooring specialist able to supply everything from Luxury Vinyl Tiles to laminates, but for customers wanting carpets it offers enormous choice and super-quick service. Because Craycombe holds around 100 rolls of carpet in stock at any time, suitable for both home and commercial premises, and fitting can usually be arranged very rapidly. Business owner Ali says: “Often, you pick today and we’ll fit tomorrow. You don’t have to trawl through sample books and wait weeks for it to arrive. You can have your carpet straight away. “We are the only independent stockist in the area who can do that, as opposed to a franchise store. All our customers get personal service and, of course, our customers can see, feel and compare carpets when they are in our store.” The carpets in question come with free grippers and door bars suit and include brands

such as Penthouse, Associated Weavers, Abingdon, Mastercraft Rugs, Cormar and Brockway. There are also budget buy offcuts and remnants available. If customers are unable or prefer to shop from home, staff can take samples along to their homes at a convenient time. Ali and his team are also able to supply and fit all kinds of flooring, including vinyls, rubber matting, engineered wood and laminates, along with the preparations needed to ensure a faultless finish, such as screeding, latex and damp-proof courses. All these are favoured for their easy cleaning properties – especially by people with children and pets – and the laminates are a cost-effective alternative to solid wood. All the fitters are fully qualified and self-employed, but they only work for Craycombe Carpets and are fully insured in case of any mishaps. Craycombe Carpets is based in Evesham and covers all of

Ayrshire

Ayrshire gave Scotland one of its most famous sons, the bard Robert Burns. The prolific poet and lyricist inspired his countryfolk to the extent that he and his work have since 1801 been celebrated on his birthday, January 25, in extraordinary ways, from ‘addressing the haggis’ to boisterously singing Auld Lang Syne with crossed arms and joined hands. The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in the village of Alloway is a 5 Star attraction. It gained the Best Heritage Tourism Experience in the Scottish Thistle Awards in 2019/’20. A visit begins with a journey through village landmarks of Burns’s life to the modest cottage where he was raised, with more than 5,000 artefacts and frequent screenings of his works being performed. The grounds include a Burns- themed play area, Scots Wa-Hey, with Tam o’ Shanter zip wire, Witches’ Cauldron roundabout and Auld Kirk climbing wall. Ayr itself is a popular seaside resort an hour’s drive from Glasgow with a long, sandy beach and esplanade. Ayr race course dates back to the 16th century hosts a busy schedule of events, including the Scottish Grand National and the town has a great variety of shops and places to eat. West Kilbride is Scotland’s first accredited Craft Town and a great place to buy quality contemporary art and craft from a diverse range of skills showcased in local shops. At the heart of it is The Barony Centre – a converted church – offering a range of workshops and events.

The Burnside Guest House is ideally located in a quiet conservation area near the beach but within easy walking distance of Ayr town centre which boasts a selection of great restaurants and shops. This Victorian terraced Guest House has been tastefully redecorated to retain period features such as high ceilings with ornate cornicing and furbished with beautiful traditional furniture to provide award-winning 4 Star quality accommodation while still retaining the intimacy of a home. The Burnside offers single, twin/double and family rooms, most having ensuite facilities and free wi-fi. For family gatherings, weddings or golf parties the entire guest house can be reserved.
