Many older people dread having to move into full-time residential care, but realise they can no longer manage alone with deteriorating health or mobility. Live-in carers can provide a very welcome alternative, helping them to stay in their own home, retaining their independence, control, and lifestyle, for a cost comparable to that of going into a paid-for residential setting. Spring Retirement is a small, well-established family business which provides that full-time, live-in support from a pool of well-qualified, highly experienced people who combine kindliness with the highest standards of professional care. Rated all-round as ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission, the company carries out careful assessments of each client’s needs and matches them with carers of compatible personality. The carers take a spare bedroom and live in as a family member might do, helping with tasks including housework, shopping, personal care, social activities and special interests. At this time of year many

people take pleasure in tending their own gardens and a live-in Spring Retirement carer can help them do as much as they wish and are able. Importantly, they keep their whole home and stay in their own neighbourhood, among friends and familiar faces. When people find that a few hours a week of domiciliary care from an agency is insufficient the Spring Retirement live-in service means somebody is always present, providing not only practical help but also companionship. And, with the company’s IT kit, trusted relatives can log in at any time to check that all is well, giving them peace of mind. Support may be short-term, perhaps for just two or three weeks following illness or surgery, or long-term, when you can get great support from the carers looking after you. Managing Director Richard Sharples says: “With a live-in carer you get one-to-one attention, which is very different to other options.”

Your new carpet. In the shop today, in your home tomorrow Craycombe Carpets is an independent flooring specialist able to supply everything from Luxury Vinyl Tiles to laminates, but for customers wanting carpets it offers enormous choice and super-quick service. Because Craycombe holds around 100 rolls of carpet in stock at any time, suitable for both home and commercial premises, and fitting can usually be arranged very rapidly. Business owner Ali says: “Often, you pick today and we’ll fit tomorrow. You don’t have to trawl through sample books and wait weeks for it to arrive. You can have your carpet straight away. “We are the only independent stockist in the area who can do that, as opposed to a franchise store. All our customers get personal service and, of course, our customers can see, feel and compare carpets when they are in our store.” The carpets in question come with free grippers and door bars suit and include brands

such as Penthouse, Associated Weavers, Abingdon, Mastercraft Rugs, Cormar and Brockway. There are also budget buy offcuts and remnants available. If customers are unable or prefer to shop from home, staff can take samples along to their homes at a convenient time. Ali and his team are also able to supply and fit all kinds of flooring, including vinyls, rubber matting, engineered wood and laminates, along with the preparations needed to ensure a faultless finish, such as screeding, latex and damp-proof courses. All these are favoured for their easy cleaning properties – especially by people with children and pets – and the laminates are a cost-effective alternative to solid wood. All the fitters are fully qualified and self-employed, but they only work for Craycombe Carpets and are fully insured in case of any mishaps. Craycombe Carpets is based in Evesham and covers all of

Clinic 66, your new holistic wellness centre

A derelict bakery which was subdivided into apartments and then left empty has been reinvented as Clinic 66, a wellness centre in the heart of Bewdley, offering a range of medical and holistic treatments to help people look after their physical and mental health. Registered nurse Faye McCann has fond memories of playing in the beautiful garden of the property at 66 High Street, Bewdley, when her grandparents owned it in the 1990s. They had intended to live in it themselves, but although that never happened, Faye herself rented one of the flats when she was a teenager. Her grandparents both died last year and, being sad to see the property looking run down, she decided it was time to revitalise it. Renting it anew, she has now refreshed the ground floor into a pleasant clinic where people can enjoy one-to-one treatments by a range of specialist practitioners, all promoting health and well-being. Faye herself retains her NHS role as

a district nurse and will be providing ear irrigation to rid people of wax blockages and restore their hearing, something she loves to do. Two more nurses have taken up time slots offering the latest aesthetic beauty treatments, including Botox and fillers, helping clients to enjoy smoother skin. A podiatrist provides care for the feet, an aromatherapist/ reflexologist offers supremely relaxing treatments utilising essential oils and other specialists arrange crystal workshops, reiki, massage and meditation. After an official opening on March 31, Faye is delighted with the way things are going. “I love the NHS and will keep working in it as that’s my history, it’s who I am. But, having worked through the pandemic, it’s clear there’s a bit of a mental health crisis out there. I think we have all got to look after each other and look after ourselves. It’s so important. “I believe Clinic 66 can help with that.”

Natural Health & Wellbeing I have been using herbs medicinally since the mid-1980s, and, since my formal training, have been in professional practice for nearly 2 decades. The Green Man Herbal Apothecary is based on the old Apothecary whereby, the individual may consult with the practitioner and gain access to remedies for both acute and chronic conditions.

Welcome to Goodness Gracious!

Chronic conditions are treated through a holistic approach that takes time to fully listen to your case, while considering the factors that make up the human condition such as diet, lifestyle and emotional blocks.

The CBD market can be rough sailing at the moment with it’s growing popularity and availability, but can you really trust the products you’re buying?

We are dedicated CBD experts currently based at our shop in Kidderminster selling top quality, award winning CBD products.

Many people in the U.K. are being enticed by low quality product at a high price point, and often tied into recurring monthly bills.

I acknowledge dis-ease as an individual expression that is best treated by balancing those factors and resolving the underlying cause, rather than merely suppressing symptoms

We make sure that every product we stock comes from trusted suppliers with a guaranteed level of quality. This means you get exactly what you’re paying for.

Treatment is achieved through the bespoke blending from a range of about 120 herbs as well as Flower Remedies.

Don’t know what product to try? Come in and talk to our team, and maybe have a fresh from the bean CBD coffee while you’re here. Find us at 61 Oxford street in Kidderminster town centre.

Prioritise your mental wellbeing with Laura Wellness Centre Looking after our mental health has perhaps never been so important since the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the turmoil in Ukraine and the prospect of rampant inflation. Thankfully, the Laura Wellness Centre in Worcester offers a safe, tranquil space where people can experience counselling, psychotherapy and complementary treatments to help them not just to survive but to thrive, even in the midst of turmoil. The Laura Wellness Centre is run by Laura Baluta, a highly qualified psychologist and psychotherapist with great experience of working with people of all ages, from young children to the very elderly. relationship difficulties, stress and mental discomfort in general. Discovering negative attitudes and behaviours enables them to be changed toward more constructive attitudes with better outcomes. They also help to generate greater resilience to cope with what comes and make improvements. Laura says: “COVID is still a focus. During the past couple of months, I’ve seen more people suffering from agoraphobia because they have grown so used to staying home. Some can’t even bear having the rest of the family inside their house. Also, the war in Ukraine is having an effect. We are bombarded with so many distressing images every day and there is a palpable fear about how it will develop. “Our therapy is about giving them a safe place to voice everything that is in their head, being able to express their feelings without being judged and learning to live with all this uncertainty that is in our lives.”

Laura’s techniques help people to identify the root causes of their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem,

Deluxe glamping in Yorkshire hideaway North Yorkshire has so much to offer visitors it’s a job to decide where to stay, but Wighill Park Glamping offers luxurious accommodation pods on a farm fringed by ancient woodland. It’s ideally placed between York, Harrogate and Leeds - three great places packed with things to do – and it’s closer still to the historic market town of Wetherby and also Tadcaster, famed for its beer brewing heritage. The 12 pods on this family-run site are all modern, purpose-made and self-contained, the smallest for two adults and the medium and large ones for two adults and three children. They are made to superior specifications with full central heating, upmarket furniture and fittings, fully-equipped kitchens and en-suite flushing toilets and hot showers. They even have smart TVs with Netflix, along with decking, firepits and outdoor dining space. The outlook is idyllic, especially at this time of year when there are cattle grazing and newborn lambs gambolling in the fields outside. Some pods even have a hot tub available for that perfect, relaxed end to the day, perhaps with a glass of something special under the stars.

Luxury Welsh glamping for outdoor adventurers

Glamp in style and space with Deerstone

Active people find everything they need and love on hand at Emlyn’s Coppice, an idyllic glampsite in North Wales, ‘the adventure capital of Europe.’ Self-contained accommodation pods sit in ancient woodland beside a hillside stream, providing affordable luxury including their own steaming hot tubs. The surroundings attract badgers, rabbits, woodpeckers, even water voles.

Anyone who craves a simpler way of life for a few days will love the tranquillity of Deerstone Glamping, a pet-friendly site set in glorious Lancashire countryside overlooking the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines and Pendle Hill, erstwhile home of the famous 17th century ‘witches.’ This exceptional site offers luxurious but affordable camping in furnished bell tents, erected and ready to use on arrival.

The spot is just two miles inland from the coastal village of Talacre, golden beaches and the stunning Wales Coast Path. Just outside the gates are the Offa’s Dyke long distance route down the Welsh Marches to Chepstow and the Sustrans cycle route crossing into Wales from Chester and continuing all the way to the Isle of Anglesey.

Deerstone Glamping extends over 80 idyllic acres, plenty of space to spread out and relax. Birdsong fills the air and the local wildlife wandering at will includes deer, hares, rabbits or even nesting curlews.

The site was developed by passionate outdoor adventurers Nic and Caroline in the grounds of a former school and named after a pupil, Emlyn Williams, a noted actor, writer and director. Their pods are fully equipped and cosy in all seasons, with underfloor heating, woodburning stoves, comfy beds, kitchenettes, their own showers and toilets, firepits and outdoor space. Two are designed

for couples. A third pod for young families will arrive in June. Nic says: “It’s an amazing place and there’s so much to do, but the surroundings are so attractive some people just come for a break in the woods. They stay put and chill out.” Emlyn’s Coppice – Luxury Woodland Glamping, School House , Llanasa Road, Gwespyr, Flintshire CH8 9LU T 01745 270156 E info@emlynscoppice.co.uk www.emlynscoppice.co.uk

The bell tents themselves each have a comfy double bed and either single beds or bunk beds and bedding, bean bags for comfy lounging and a wood burning stove, cooler, cutlery and crockery, towels, toilet and shower. Additional facilities provided by owners Karin and Chris include a kids’ play park, film nights, picnic benches and a communal firepit where people gather to socialise. If wished, added extras can include a cooked breakfast delivered to your tent by local businesses and use of a

sauna and cold plunge barrel. There are also plenty of bike routes and footpaths. Popular places to visit include Skipton, ‘Gateway to the Dales’ and picturesque Bolton Abbey with its famous ruins, ancient woodland, riverside and waterfalls, both within about 10 minutes’ drive. Sunrise Pods, Luxury Glamping in the Shropshire Hills Glampers chill out with smart TV, en-suite showers and their own private hot tubs when taking a break with Sunrise Pods, in the beautiful borderlands between England and Wales. The luxurious pods are styled to contemporary taste, electrically heated, fully equipped and ideally suited for romantic breaks, walking holidays or personal space. The three pods are nestled in countryside near Chirbury, in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just a few minutes’ walk from two ancient stone circles. Lovers of the outdoors often seek out Stiperstones National Nature Reserve or challenge themselves walking Wenlock Edge or parts of Offa’s Dyke.

Angie Adams, who runs the site with her husband, Stuart, says: “The views here are amazing. Some guests come just for those, the pod and the hot tub. They don’t go anywhere, just chill and watch Netflix.” Sunrise Pods, White Grit near Chirbury, Shropshire T 07854 976593 E sunrisepods.shropshire@gmail.com Facebook @ Sunrise-Pods-LuxuryGlamping

Others head for the towns of Shrewsbury, Welshpool and Montgomery, enjoying shops, eateries, castles and attractions, perhaps taking a ride on the Welshpool and Llanfair steam railway or visiting the exotic collections and world class gardens of Powys Castle. At the end of a hard day’s exploring, guests love to relax in the hot tub glass in hand under the stars, perhaps after a meal rustled up in their wellequipped kitchen then snuggle on the sofa to end their day. Glamping in a Kent wildlife haven Nature lovers will think they’re heading to the countryside but find themselves in something akin to heaven when they alight on Moat Farm Kent. The charming shepherd’s hut and bell tent accommodation stands in a stunning wildflower meadow teeming with bees, butterflies and grasshoppers and ablaze with colour in all seasons. Guests can even see four generations of longhorn cattle, relaxing at leisure. Sleeping two people, the hut has everything needed for a comfortable stay, including electricity, hot water, a flushing loo, shower and a comfy double bed. Set in an oak worktop there is a butler sink, hob and fridge. A log burner to keep your evenings cosy and, for warmer evenings, a firepit overlooking the meadow. Romance is fuelled by barbecued meals under the stars, perhaps with a glass or two of wine from the Kent vineyards and an audience of overhead barn owls. In the daytime, guests enjoy use of a heated outdoor swimming pool in an idyllic country garden bursting with roses in summer and may wander the 250 acre farm, all of which has been turned over by owners Mike and Jan Bax to nurturing wildlife. The project utilises 160 acres of ancient woodland, 30 ponds supporting frogs, toads and lizards and meadows with an abundant array of flowers and wildlife, including a thriving population of nightingales filling the air with enchanting birdsong.

Cherished experience, Cherish Glamping Cherish Glamping has provided camping luxury in the Yorkshire Dales since it opened in 2019, providing quality yurts with kingsized four poster beds and en-suite facilities including their own rainfall showers and private hot tubs. This season it has upgraded the amenities by providing a spa, with guests able to book sessions with a larger hot tub, barrel sauna and plunge pool. The site is a 27 acre smallholding with fabulous views near the heritage village of Askrigg in Wensleydale, ‘Darrowby’ in the TV series ‘All Creatures Great and Small.’ Owners Steve Graves and Jo Holtom moved north from London for a wildly different lifestyle and now have pigs, chickens, lambs and other companions helping to keep the campers entertained. The yurts are dog friendly and there are meadows where pets can run free. They even come with room service breakfasts and dinners, locally produced and ordered by What’s App. Many visitors use Cherish Glamping to explore the stunning local scenery, including Yorkshire Dales National Park, and frequently Wensleydale

Creamery, home of famous cheeses. The adventurous go wild swimming in nearby Mill Gill or hike parts of the Pennine Way, Coast to Coast or Dales Way. Sometimes, though, Cherish Glamping has everything its guests want or need on-site. It was founded by freedom-loving fans of the iconic Airstream glamper and aimed to provide a green and pleasant hideaway with an unconventional vibe, different but welcoming to one and all. Based at Ratcliffe Culey, near the Leicestershire/ Warwickshire border, the site has only been open for five years but has already been transformed by a massive bulb planting effort and the sowing of millions of seeds to create a wildflower meadow. Owners Linds and Dom also contribute 300 trees – one for every booking - to One Tree Planted, a charity which plants trees in countries where they are needed.

They look forward to launching their beautiful Peacock Garden, which has been shaped and planted to look like a 3D peacock when viewed from above. Guests can also meet the permanent residents, two Highland cows, four Nubian goats, two Kunekune pigs, four donkeys and chickens. Ettie’s Field holds 5 Star and Unique Camping awards from Quality in Tourism and a recommendation from Cool Camping. Dog and child friendly, it has about 30 pitches, most with electric hook-ups and nearby water, some with hardstanding for vehicles and others grass for camping. All have chimeneas for barbecuing and warmth. Site facilities include hot showers and flush toilets and an Elsan point. A cosy clubhouse with a fire, comfy seating, plump cushions and a

coffee machine makes a focal point for people to share time together. A New Age shop sells colourful Fair Trade goods and foraging expeditions are offered regularly. The whole site can be booked for private parties, rallies and other special events. Linds says: “Everyone is welcome and there’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere throughout the site, although we’re constantly upgrading. “We’ve put great effort into the planting – working with our ‘Meadow Man, Gary McReynolds-White – and there is so much more we want to do. We want people to enjoy it and hopefully take something away that they can do at home to support wildlife.”

HOLIDAY OF THE MONTH

F E AT U R E D

Unique Retreats Many people discovered parts of the UK they had never known before while COVID put their customary international holidays on hold. For most, it was an eye-opening delight, notwithstanding our notoriously changeable weather. Now, even though we are all relatively free to travel again, it’s highly likely that many people will just keep exploring our home territory, enjoying the hugely varied range of landscapes, activities, events and attractions that keep the domestic holiday scene vibrant and unique.

This month we focus on England Wales and Scotland. Some places may seem familiar as holiday destinations, others less likely because of their inland locations, but all have masses to offer their visitors by way of great accommodation, entertainment, places to visit and things to do. There are pleasant surprises waiting in every town and village. Our featured locations also offer unspoiled countryside and wide open spaces. These are places untouched by the ‘concrete jungle,’ where people

Recharge all your batteries in the heart of the West Country at The Bickford Arms Eco-friendly holidaymakers will be able to charge their electric car batteries while they sleep at the Bickford Arms, a welcoming country inn with 11 comfortable en-suite guest bedrooms near the cusp of Devon and Cornwall. The green-minded owners have invested in six onsite charging points so their guests can make the most of their time in touring ‘Ruby Country,’ the unspoiled countryside between Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor. The Bickford Arms is modern and inviting for everyone and their wellbehaved dogs, with the bonus of an acre of forest on the side for those early morning and late evening walks. The spot is within convenient travelling distance for beautiful beaches, wild moorland and any number of visitor attractions, from the famous fishing village of Clovelly – erstwhile home of ‘The Water Babies’ author Charles Kingsley – to the pirate lair of Jamaica Inn. Guests in all bedrooms enjoy quality beds and

bedding, smart TV, superfast Wi-Fi and beverage making facilities. They also have use of a function room, popular as a meeting point for group holidays. Hearty breakfasts, lunches, evening meals and Sunday carveries are all cooked with enthusiasm by the Bickford chef team and regularly attract compliments. Guests also enjoy a built-in social life alongside the locals at this friendly freehouse. Real ales, craft ciders, jaunty gins and many other choice tipples are available at the bar and the atmosphere is always convivial. The beer garden is another popular facility when the weather is mellow and is especially lush this autumn. Owner Keith Reynolds, who runs the premises with his partner, John, says: “We have a big car-park that can accommodate not only cars but also motorhomes. People travelling around in those are often glad to stop over for one night and enjoy the amenities, including proper showers, space and well-cooked food.”

If you like ‘quirky’ as well as ‘supercomfortable,’ you’ll love the American school bus-turned-luxury-holiday-accommodation of the Wildaway hideaway of East Sussex. With a reputation honed on TV, it’s at Latchetts Lakes, in exceptional walking country and within easy reach of Brighton and the South Downs National Park. At Oakwood West Holidays in West Sussex, stables have been transformed into superb holiday lodges with hot tubs near the Georgian city of Chichester, where the ancient harbour is a hot spot for sailing and also an outstanding nature reserve. Don’t miss the long, sandy West Wittering beach nearby. Shropshire offers another unique location, the luxurious glamping village of Hencote Wine Estate, with an on-site restaurant making best use of both its own and carefully selected international wines. The vineyards are close to charming Shrewsbury and the mighty educational opportunities of Ironbridge Gorge, ‘Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution,’ with its array of museums and hands-on experiences. Get close to nature at Chestnut Shepherd’s Hut, Hampshire, but don’t miss out on the medieval charms of Winchester or the unique exhibits of Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, including the Tudor warship Mary Rose, Nelson’s flagship HMS Victory and the viewing platforms of Spinnaker Tower. Another idyllic setting for a shepherd’s hut break is at the Hare’s Rest near Trowbridge, Wiltshire, with exquisite walking, cycling and wild swimming nearby. Wold Meadow is another glampsite with personality. For adults only, it sits in the Yorkshire Wolds, between the ever-popular seaside resorts of Filey and Bridlington. 46 countylifestyleandleisure.com

Everybody is craving more time in their lives for nature so we asked ourselves the question, “Can we help get people out into nature without sacrificing home comforts?”. We found an answer - this stunning American School Bus conversion. We shipped a bus over from New York, cut the ceiling off to raise it 1.5 feet (for MORE headspace), built a luxury 3 room hotel suite inside (including a flushing household toilet), Italian tiles in the bathroom, induction hobs, farmhouse sink, and cut a hole big enough for a double glazed window in front of the sofa. You may have seen us on Discovery+, QuestTV or Channel 5 but we’d love you to come and stay to see it for yourselves.

Angus Kilry Eco Pods In the Angus Glens

Our pods are a fantastic romantic little getaway, it is a base to explore the local Glens. The only sounds you’ll hear at night are the owls and the odd cow or sheep. Both pods have a double bed and a camp bed. They are en-suite with a small kitchen, complete with electric hob, microwave, toaster, pots, and utensils. There are plenty of walks from the pods or a short drive away. There are rivers, lochs, and reservoirs nearby. Also, a great spot for biking, with and without an engine. This area has lots of golf courses too. There are local wildlife hides if you are keen to photograph or simply watch the wildlife. Or just simply come, open a bottle of wine and light the campfire, or cosy up for the night.
