Odebrecht Agroindustrial Celebrates Six Years 4
O
n July 4, Odebrecht Agroindustrial completed its six-year anniversary. Despite its young age, the company already boasts some significant figures and has earned a position of leadership in the sugarenergy sector. Founded in 2007, it has nine agroindustrial units in the
states of São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Goiás, which generate more than 17,000 direct job opportunities. The company is already Brazil’s second largest ethanol producer. “In just a short time, we were able to raise more than R$ 9 billion in investments and become a model

company in the bioenergy sector due to our capacity for results, our concern with people, as well as with the health, safety and development of the communities in which we operate,” said Luiz de Mendonça, Entrepreneurial Leader, in a statement to Members. According to Luiz de Mendonça, the challenges that lie ahead are even greater: guaranteeing the

team work,” he said. It is estimated that the company will achieve a milling capacity of 25 million tons of sugarcane – 30% more than the volume processed during the 2012/2013 harvest –, allowing for the production of 2 billion liters of ethanol, the co-generation of 2,000 GWh of electric energy and the production of more than 700,000 tons of sugar.
In order to celebrate the company’s six years and promote Members’ engagement, Odebrecht Agroindustrial prepared an interactive campaign, launched July 4, with actions that will extend until December of this year. The actions are designed to continue with that created for the brand change, in February of this year, under the theme Today, We Are More. Now, the theme is Together We Are More and reinforces the concept of the pride of belonging among Members, who will answer the following questions: “What is being ‘more’ in life?”, “What is ‘more’ at work?”, “What does it mean to be ‘more’ sustainable?” and “What does it mean to be ‘more’ for the future?” Each question will be presented during a different month (July, August, September and October). Members will be able to answer via a free mobile text message or via the hotsite: www.hojesomosmais.com. br. In order to encourage people to participate, the 1,000 first messages will receive a collectible pin – the goal is for each participant to collect all four pins by answering the questions or trading with their colleagues. All of the answers will be revealed on the

In addition to all of the actions included under the campaign,
each unit holds a special event each year involving the integration of the agricultural, industrial, maintenance, SHE and administrative teams. The campaign also involves external communication in the cities in which the company operates. All of the local radio shows have spots on their programming during the month. Besides this, billboards were placed at strategically chosen points in these municipalities with the message: “We are proud to forge our history together with all of you.”

Grass Grows at Corinthians Arena One week after being planted, the grass at the Corinthians Arena has begun to sprout up on the future game field. Imported from the United States, the grass is a special type designed for winter, and accordingly, during the summer months, it will be cooled using a complex chilled water system installed underneath it together with the drainage systems. It is estimated that the grass will be completed by September of this year, and ready for the first game by October. During this period, in addition to the fertilization and irrigation, small imperfections will be corrected with new plantings. Another new feature for the development construction work is the demolition of the former Training Center used by the Corinthians Juniors’ category. Used as an office at the start of the project, the terrain will provide space for the circulation of spectators. The construction of the Corinthians Arena, currently being undertaken by Odebrecht Infrastructure, is right on schedule. Nearly 82% of the project is completed, with special emphasis on the roof, whose East and West sector structures have already been installed. The stadium should be ready for delivery by December of this year.
The planting of the grass began on June 25. Until September, there will be a post-planting maturation period that lasts some 90 days, which involves pruning, irrigation, fertilization and pest and disease control, among other tasks

Future Olympic Legacy On July 1, the installation began in Rio de Janeiro for the three pavilions of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Park that will host the basketball, taekwon-do, Olympic and Paralympic Judo, wrestling, free fighting, wheelchair basketball, Paralympic bowling, seated volleyball and wheelchair rugby. The construction work is currently being completed by the Rio Mais Concessionaire, led by Odebrecht Infrastructure, with the coordination of the City Government through the Municipal Olympic Company, RIOURBE, and the Sub-Department of Strategic Projects and Public Service Concessions and Public-Private Partnerships of the Chief of Staff Municipal Department. The activities include the drilling of the soil and paving of the continuous helical displacement pile – foundation structures designed to support arenas. Under this system, a set of equipment drills the soil and installs the frame, and then another machine paves the pile. The installation of the arena structures will begin during the second half of this year. After the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the three pavilions will be part of the Olympic Training Center (COT),
In order to complete the soil drilling and pile paving work, 50 Members and two machines were mobilized
designed for high performance athletes. The COT will also include the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, Cycle Stadium and Tennis Center. The Olympic Park will occupy an area of 1.18 million square meters, where 14 different Olympic sports and 14 Paralympic sports will be disputed. By 2030, it is estimated that new developments will be installed, forming a residential neighborhood that will serve as a reference in Sustainability, with unprecedented energy efficient and accessibility components.

Among the areas visited, Graça Foster visited the superstructure, navigation room, drill floor, driller’s cabin, sieve room, silt pump room and the fitness gym
“Impressive” was the word used by the President of Petrobras, Graça Foster, upon visiting the NORBE IX drilling rig on June 19 in Rio de Janeiro. Accompanied by representatives from Odebrecht Oil & Gas and by Marcelo Odebrecht, President and CEO of Odebrecht S.A., Foster visited a sixth generation drilling rig and learned about the new technologies used and the specific characteristics of the unit. According to Clarisse Rodrigues, Rig Management Assistant, all of the Members onboard worked together to ensure the client’s satisfaction. “All of the effort was worth it,” said Rodrigues. The President of Petrobras was impressed with the structure,
organization and technology present at the unit, and also learned information about the equipment and operational systems,” she said. For Rodrigues, who joined the Organization in 2008 through the Young Partner Program, the visit was a practical demonstration of the concept “Dream the Client’s Dream.” She commented: “It made me proud to share some of my knowledge with Graça Foster and see her interested and enthusiastic about the NORBE IX.” The unit was chosen based on the recommendation by Bernardo Gobbi, Coordinator of the Study and Planning Cabinet at Petrobras, who evaluates the NORBE IX as “new and very good.”

Strengthening the Daily Work Routine Vitamins are crucial compounds for life and Human Beings require many of them for their survival and growth. In the same way that the body needs these substances, professional life requires efforts that help with the performance, both in a group or individually, of workers. With this in mind, the Communication team of the ACP SHE project in Argentina, currently being implemented by Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial, developed the tool TEO Vitamins. The goal is to give the Members small “doses” of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO) each week. “We are inviting the Members to reflect on the principles, concepts and criteria of the TEO through topics that are easy to read, with infographics, illustrations and videos,” explained Hernán Córdoba, responsible for the initiative. FIRST SHIPMENT The Embraport activities began with the stopover of the ship Mercosul Manaus – the first commercial vessel to dock up at the terminal, operating the maritime transport of cargo through cabotage (see explanation in box). Operated by the Mercosul Line in partnership with the company Login, the ship is 210 meters long and has the capacity for 2,500 TEUs (unit equivalent to 20 feet or 6,096 meters). On the occasion, representatives from the Embraport Operations and Commercial areas made the symbolic delivery of a plaque to the ship’s commander as a way to celebrate the moment.

In all, 271 containers were shipped, including 13 reefers (with frozen cargo). The work involved 60 Members and was completed in nine hours. The operators Luis Claudio Castilho, José Henrique Garcez de Andrade, Aguinaldo Soares Leite Filho, Luiz Gustavo dos Santos Muniz, Claudio Pereira da Silva and Alex Henrique dos Santos were responsible for the shipment of the first containers that left the yard, destined for the ship Mercosul Manaus. After seven months of training, the team was eager for the start of operations. Andrade stated that the Daily Safety Dialogue (DDS) at the start of the shift was different: “Oscar Paredes [Operations Manager], Senhor Turbides [Operations Director] and Ernst [President] were present to guarantee that everyone’s safety was the most important goal of the day, more so than productivity. “This gave us peace of mind and left us confident about the first operation,” he said. For the 2013/2014 harvest, Biocom has the challenge of planting 6,600 hectares of sugarcane to start its operation in 2014
New Challenges The agricultural team from the Angola Bioenergy Company (BIOCOM) gathered its Members for the Action Program (AP) Planning Cycle for the 2013/2014 harvest, which defined the next goals and challenges for sugar and ethanol production in the country. Based on the favorable scenario for the agroindustrial sector in Angola, which currently presents several opportunities, the areas gathered together the lessons learned during the previous harvest, orienting the leadership during the elaboration of the new guidelines. “The goal was for Members to learn their goals so that the consolidation of the leaders’ APs reflects the results established for Biocom,” emphasized Alécio Cantalogo Júnior, responsible for the Agricultural area. He also explained the people development plan: “Each Brazilian
expatriate needs to train an Angolan successor,” he said. “In this way, we can consolidate the business in the country, together with the transfer of knowledge through Education Through Work.” Adão Daniel Miguel, Agricultural Maintenance Leader, addressed the dialogue between the teams as a fundamental item during the harvest. “We discover the points that impact our results and find the most efficient solutions,” said Miguel. “Learning our goals and those of the other areas gives us a more ample vision to reach our results,” he said. For Adilson Jorge Rodrigues, from the Agricultural Planning area, it was surprising to see the importance given to each Member in terms of the Biocom result: “Participating in planning means feeling like I’m part of the company,” he said.

Focus on Small Businesses from the Plastic Industry On June 17, SEBRAE and Braskem launched a production supply chain program focused on the Brazilian chemical industry. Lasting 36 months, the initiative will serve three links in the chain: small companies, suppliers of products and services for the Braskem industrial units; small transformer businesses; and cooperative recyclable material associations. The goals include: increasing the sales volume by 10% and the number of professionals from small businesses in the plastic sector chain by 5%. Another result expected is the 25% increase in small companies’ performance when it comes to the quality criteria established by Braskem. The estimates are inspired by the performance obtained in the pilot project developed in Alagoas. Since 2009, SEBRAE and Braskem have worked in the area of training and innovation of micro and small plastic transformer companies in partnership with the Alagoas State Federation of Industries, National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI) and the trade union from the area, SINDPLAST. The experience in Maceió and Marechal Deodoro presented some significant results in three
44
years: the number of small companies increased 61%; the number of job opportunities grew 56%; and the salaries of the Production area workers were raised by 33%. Furthermore, there was a 71% reduction in the loss rate. The main pillars of the program include the development of administrative and financial business competencies among participants and the competitive strengthening of small companies and cooperative recyclable material cooperatives operating in the plastic value chain. “Braskem has the goal of promoting the development of all the links of the chain in which it operates,” said Marcelo Lyra, Vice President of Institutional Relations. “Accordingly, it seeks to be a strategic company for the economy, helping to resolve socialenvironmental problems and contributing toward the development of our society,” he said. The investments planned for the new phase of the cooperation agreement total up to R$ 7 million. The initiative expects to reach 150 supplier companies, 250 small plastic transformation businesses – purchasers of the thermoplastic resins produced by Braskem, and 25 recycler cooperatives, benefitting 1,000 trash collectors.
Building Healthy Lifestyles Practicing physical activities regularly is one of the most important things that we can do to preserve or improve our health. With this in mind, Odebrecht Infrastructure promoted running and walking activities in Venezuela with the participation of Members and their families. More than 500 Members from Line 5 and the Caracas Subway Mariche, Petare Sul and Antimano metrocables participated in the 5k Challenge, organized by the People and Organization area. The walk began at the central construction site and continued until Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Park – the largest in Caracas. The Bridge to Health walk gathered Members from the Nigale Bridge project – the project to construct the second bridge over Maracaibo Lake, located in Zulia State – together with their families. Participants also received health services, such as blood pressure control and measurements of body mass index, bone density, cholesterol, weight and height.

LRV: An Innovative
O
n June 14, the Rio de Janeiro City Government and the consortium formed by the companies Odebrecht TransPort, CCR, Invepar, Riopar Participações, BRt and RATP signed the contract for the construction and operation of the Light Rail Vehicle (LRV) system. The ceremony included the participation of the President of the Brazilian Republic, Dilma Rousseff, Governor Sérgio Cabral, and Mayor Eduardo Paes, in addition to representatives from the companies that make up the consortium, such as Paulo Cesena, Executive Director of Odebrecht TransPort, Rodrigo Carnaúba, Director of Urban Mobility at Odebrecht TransPort, and Leandro Azevedo, Managing Director for Rio de Janeiro at Odebrecht Infraestrutura. The project will be executed through a PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP) under which the consortium will be responsible for the installation
work, purchases of the trains and systems and operation and maintenance of the LRV for a 25year period. The new means of transport is part of a strategy being implemented by the Rio de Janeiro state and municipal governments to guarantee adequate infrastructure for holding the 2016 Olympic Games.
CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS AND THEIR BENEFITS The system will connect the Port Zone to Rio de Janeiro’s financial center, and during a second phase, to the Santos Dumont Airport, involving investments of around R$ 1.2 billion. LRV has six lines, with 42 stations distributed throughout 28 kilometers of streets. Once all lines have started operating, the capacity will reach as high has 285,000 per day. Each car will

e System have the capacity to transport up to 415 people and the interval between the sets may vary between three and 15 minutes, depending on the schedule. The average estimated speed is 17 km/hour. The construction work is set to begin during the second half of 2013 and will be divided into two phases. The first involves the installation of the Vila de Mídia-Santo Cristo-Praça Mauá-Cinelândia stretch, which should be concluded during the second half of 2015. The second phase includes the Central-Barcas, Santo Cristo-América-CentralCandelária, América-Vila de Mídia and BarcasSantos Dumont stretches, to be finalized during the first half of 2016. The Rio de Janeiro LRV will be one of the world’s first to be designed entirely without overhead lines (cables that capture the electricity in the suspended wires). The energy will be supplied using the APS
system (ground-level power) – a type of third rail –, successfully installed in different European cities. In practice, it is an energy supply system through the soil combined with a “supercapacitor” (imbedded energy source). This innovative means of transport in the city and the country will offer some important benefits for the population. Studies conducted during the bidding process indicate that the LRV will generate savings of approximately R$ 400 million for society and in terms of public spending. These figures are the result of a financial calculation that considers the commute time for public and individual transport, expenses with fuels, the carbon emissions of the vehicles that will cease from circulating in the region, and the reduction in the number of traffic accidents and expenses related to the population’s health.

Owls in the Way A team from the Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire, controlled by Odebrecht TransPort, found an owl of the species Tyto Alba, together with two owlets, during the construction work to recover the viaduct located at Kilometer 64 of the Engenheiro Constâncio Cintra Highway (SP-360) in Jundiaí, rural São Paulo. Popularly known as the “Church Owl,” the bird laid four eggs in a hollow space located in the lower part of the structure. In order to avoid affecting the owl’s breeding, the alternative adopted
was to invert the order of the work. Until the owlets can fly, the Members are working only on the outer part of the viaduct. “The change in the construction work schedule was crucial for the owlet’s survival,” explained Ronaldo Brasil Jungers, a Member of the concessionaire’s Environment team. “If the work had continued, the adult owl would abandon her eggs,” he said. The species is considered one of the world’s most useful birds, since it feeds on rodents.
