A Perspective on the Odebrecht Brand

“T

he brand construction process may have a starting date, but never an ending one.” It was with these words that Laura Garcia, from Interbrand, the consulting firm responsible for the Odebrecht brand, began yet another cycle of training about the new visual identity on July 31 at the Odebrecht office in the Angolan capital of Luanda. Divided into two groups – morning and afternoon –, 60 Members from Mozambique, Portugal, Ghana, as well as those from the other contracts underway in Angola, participated in the training, which was focused on orienting them as to the correct application of the brand and the elements that make up

4

the Organization’s visual system. The Brand Strategy Manager from Interbrand talked about the creative process for the new brand architecture, which began in 2010, highlighting the strategic aspects of the project. After that, Designer Cristiane Inoue, also from Interbrand, provided a point-by-point explanation of the brand guidelines, presenting cases of correct and incorrect applications. During the meeting, which lasted approximately three hours, there was also discussion on topics such as the interaction between brands, color systems, materials, signs and office supplies. In order to assist with the work of those who need to apply the identity to their daily activities, brand management tools were

developed and distributed during the event: a practical guide, containing basic information on the new visual system; as well as a color scale, which presents the Odebrecht chromatic palette applied to different materials. Considered a market innovation, the scale allows Members and partners to check whether the color of the produced materials is correct. “For about three years now, Odebrecht has been paying special attention to its brand, and due to this, it has developed a strategy that covers all of the Organization’ businesses and companies,” explained Karolina

Gutiez, responsible for the Brand Management Program at Odebrecht S.A. “In this process, all Members play a crucial role. The training sessions are important for training them, so that they correctly and responsibly use the brand and disseminate this knowledge in their own environments,” she said. The training also took place in Panama on July 15, gathering more than 40 Members from Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, México, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela, in addition to the local ones. In Brazil, the training took place from June 3-7 and on

Brand Ambassadors: approximately 210 Members from 14 countries took part in the training sessions, which allowed them to better understand the guidelines related to the brand and its correct use

August 13. In all, the training cycle included 12 groups and included the participation of approximately 210 Members and suppliers. “There are few companies that invest in this type of training for an ample profile of participants,” said Cristiane Inoue. “We had Members from the areas of Communication, People and Organization, Administrative and Financial, among other areas, coming from the line and from the corporate area, all interested in and motivated to learn the brand guidelines. When people understand the identity, it is easier to guarantee the consistency of communication,” she said.

For Arthur Bernardes, from the Odebrecht Communication team in Panama, who participated in the training, the initiative is crucial for the Organization to reflect on the brand and visual identity and for the daily practice of permanent communication and alignment. “Now, we all have the conceptual framework, and primarily, the means for promoting these good practices,” said Bernardes. “Tools such as the Brand Territory website and the color scale awaken interest, primarily because they make it clear with several different digital and physical examples what should and should not be done,” he said.

GOOD PRACTICES In alignment with the guidelines, different environments of the Organization are adjusting to the new identity. The Angola Communication team developed strategies for disseminating the brand concepts and verifying their application in the contracts: it issued internal statements via e-mail, Corporate TV and the other available instruments; it organized debates and called meetings with the area leaders, emphasizing the importance of everyone’s contribution toward disseminating the new identity; and also held visits to the projects to verify

the proper implementation of the orientations contained in the Brand Territory. The result of this work can be seen in projects such as the Population Resettlement Program, which has already fully adopted the visual system at the construction site. “It is a process to which we are already committed, and because of this, we will continue to disseminate it and inspect the environments to strengthen our journey toward the 2020 Vision, with value added to our business image, emphasized Justino Amaro, responsible for Institutional Relations in the country.

Braskem Annual Report: Transparency and Quality Compared to 2011, the company reduced its effluent generation by 10.6%; water consumption by 5.6%; energy consumption by 1.7%; and solid waste generation by 14.6%. It also achieved the best performance rates on issues related to health and safety. Considering Members and partners per million man-hours worked (MHW), the

In July, Braskem launched its 2012 Annual Report. During this edition, the publication achieved the highest level of application of the G3.1 guideline under the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) – A+ –, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the transparency and quality of its communication. The document presents the main results obtained for those topics considered most relevant for Braskem and its stakeholders. In all, it gathered 81 indicators, representing a significant increase compared to the 32 reported the previous year. In order to achieve the maximum level, Braskem interviewed representatives from its stakeholders to better understand priorities and analyzed the dimension of its impact on the economic, social and environmental aspects covered by the guideline.

accident frequency rate both with and without time loss was 1.04. The frequency rate for accidents with time loss was 0.32, and the severity rate was 27.5. Braskem invested R$ 15 million in training and created initiatives for the development of competencies, such as Global Leaders and the Sustainability Competency Development Program. In the area of innovation, Braskem deposited 47 new patents in 2012, 17 more than in 2011, for a total of 650 patents during the company’s entire history. GRI is currently the most complete structure for disclosing information and is based on six principles that ensure the quality of the report: balance, comparability, precision, frequency, clarity and reliability. The criteria established for each one of the levels of application (A, B, C) indicates the progress in the application or extension of the GRI report scope. The positive sign means that the document was submitted for verification by third parties.

Thirty-four years after the first project in Peru, Odebrecht is returning to Arequipa for the Matarani Project (illustrative photo). The start of the work is scheduled for the first months of 2014, with an investment of US$ 156 million

A New Contract in Peru Odebrecht Infrastructure and the operator of the Matarani Port Terminal, Tisur, signed a contract to build a full receipt, storage and transport system at Matarani Port, located at Islay Bay in Arequipa, Peru. The modernization will allow for the launch of the 2,300 TPH (tons per hour) of minerals originating from the companies Xstrata Cooper and the Cerro Verde Mining Society. The port will still have the capacity to meet the growing mineral export demand at the same time that it will prevent the contamination of its zone of influence by installing airtight strips designed to stop the release of minerals to the outer part. The Matarani Project will serve as a fundamental site for the most important port in the country’s Southern region. Through the process, the mineral enters the terminal via railroad and ground transport until reaching one of the four

unloading buildings – each one with a 350-TPH device and transporter line that carries the product to the companies’ warehouses. The entry into the warehouses, which are equipped with a system that prevents the dispersal of the concentrates, will take place using mobile tripper conveyors designed to facilitate the unloading process. After that, the mineral is taken to a transfer tower and tubular conveyor belt – for the transport until the Shiploader –, completing the transmission and distribution cycle quickly, efficiently and with a reduced environmental impact. “We are proud of the trust bestowed upon our teams for the development of the new mineral terminal,” said Igor Cruz, Maritime Project Director. “Thanks to this achievement, we can ensure that Odebrecht will continue to increase its operations with innovative proposals for the Peruvian port sector,” he said.

New Paths for Bahia’s Recôncavo Region On July 27, Bahia Governor Jaques Wagner was at the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP) construction site in the city of Enseada to announce the signing of the service order to build a bridge over the Baetantã River, which includes the system for access to the BR-420 Highway. The projects will receive an investment of US$ 42.4 million. There will also be the recovery of five kilometers of Highway BA 534, with resources of R$ 7.5 million. The projects will benefit the communities of Maragogipe, Nazaré, Salinas da Margarida, Itaparica and Vera Cruz. “We will build a bridge, other complementary roads and we have a commitment to water and energy,” said Jaques Wagner. “It is a major investment by the state government, also preparing the terrain for the development and the orders by Petrobras, which will be filled by the shipyard,” he said. The governor emphasized the efforts to deepen the naval industry production chain: “We are creating an industrial area to attract supplier companies to the shipyard,” said Wagner. “For the construction of ships and rigs, thousands of items are necessary that are produced outside the shipyard, bringing down costs and generating even more job opportunities in the region,” he said. According to Humberto Rangel, Institutional Relations and Sustainability Director at EEP, support is crucial for the installation of the development. “We are here today at a ceremony to launch the bridge that will benefit the population, but which is also necessary for the shipyard,” said Rangel. The paving of BR-534 will also benefit the community of Enseada,” he added.

The Odebrecht Infrastructure team coordinates and supports the completion of the commissioning of the Santo Antônio HPP Generator Units in Rondônia

At the Santo Antônio HPP, More Units Operating In order to guarantee the commercial generation of the highest possible number of machines at the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), Odebrecht Infrastructure is promoting the simultaneous commissioning of up to six Generator Units. The work is concentrated at Generation Group 2 (GG2), which was made available to conduct tests. The commissioning includes tests to check the correct operation of the turbine and generator. These tests are sub-divided into two phases: static, without the presence of water; and dynamic, with the passage of water through the turbine. After being concluded, the Generator Units are connected to the transmission lines for the distribution of energy to Brazil’s North and Central-South regions.

12

“Conducting the commissioning tests at the same time at six Generator Units is an unprecedented event in the hydroelectric plant segment,” explained João Paulo Ribeiro, Commissioning Coordinator. “It is an innovative technology, subsidized by an intense work pace, in which the quality of the product delivered to the client is a question of honor for the construction consortium,” said Ribeiro. The commissioning of the Generator Units at the Santo Antônio HPP began in November 2011, and has already made more than 70,000 tons of equipment available for operation. Currently, the plant is operating with two Power Houses and 14 turbines connected to the country’s National Integrated System (SIN).

Fundamental Parts for Generating On July 20, the launch and installation operation was concluded for the predistributor of the first Generator Unit for the Power House at the Teles Pires Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP), currently being built by Odebrecht Infrastructure between the states of Mato Grosso and Pará. The pre-distributor – a metal part with a diameter of 13 meters and weighing

225 tons – helps direct the flow and promotes the homogeneous distribution of the water to the turbine wheel through 24 fixed blades, allowing the turbine/ generator set to rotate and generate energy. The Teles Pires HPP will have an installed capacity of 1,820 megawatts, distributed throughout five Francis Generator Units, with 364 MW each.

Manufactured by Alstom in São Paulo, the pre-distributor was delivered in March of this year, divided into six parts. The Assembly area joined the parts, and welded and launched the equipment

Since the start of the contract with Petrobras, the NORBE VIII has completed more than 1 million man/hours worked of operation

NORBE VIII: Operation and Sustainability The Odebrecht Oil and Gas NORBE VIII continues to gather distinctions. The first, earned on July 17, is the record of two years without time loss accidents, celebrated by all Members onboard. For Gustavo Marins, Rig Manager Assistant, the record is the result of the team work and effective participation of the supervisors onboard and their teams in the practice of the Management System (SiGOP). “The leaders are experienced and lead by example, following procedures, planning tasks and promoting an environment with a greater perception of risk,” said Marins. This dedication received distinction from the Sustainability area, which recognized the NORBE VIII team for the pro-active approach when monitoring the legal and audit requirements. The unit also has the highest solid waste recycling rate of all the Odebrecht Oil and Gas offshore drilling fleet and has Members who are conscious and dedicated to the completion and fulfillment of the Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) actions. Jack Daughdrill, Rig Manager, stated that due to the fact that the communication channels between the Leader and Team Member are always open, the communication is more assertive. “From the planning of the tasks to their execution, everyone follows the procedures and performs the risk analyses that are pertinent to the activities onboard,” said Daughdrill.

fast news The new rock excavation process was shared with the entire Topography team at the Santo Antônio HPP, which helped execute the project

Topography to Innovate Faced with the challenges to improve the construction methods at the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) in Rondônia, the Topography area at Odebrecht Infrastructure modernized the Drilling Plan in the rock excavation processes, work completed by the Earth Leveling sector. Using telecommunications and IT resources, the procedure that was manually completed was replaced by a technological process, one that guaranteed more service quality, as well as the improved efficiency, savings and reliability of information. In order to put the Drilling Plan into practice in the field, Topography makes the markings where the holes will be opened by the rock drill. In the method used previously, the topographer collected the data on a device called the Total Station, filled out a spreadsheet

16

and elaborated a drawing. The innovation eliminated the need for the use of the paper spreadsheet and manual drawing. After it is collected, the information is stored and transmitted by a device called a Controller via the Internet. After that, the data is hosted on a portal, allowing the information to be extracted and converted into a “smart” spreadsheet, which performs all the calculations. In order to elaborate the technical drawing, the data is transferred from the spreadsheet to a computer program (AUTOCAD). Zedequias Santos, responsible for Topography and creator of the method, stated that the technology will be able to be applied at other projects, including with possibilities for improvement. “It was a low cost project compared to the excellent benefits,” said Santos.

On the Communication Route The Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire – the Odebrecht TransPort company responsible for the administration of the Dom Pedro Corridor in rural São Paulo – celebrated two agreements with the television broadcaster EPTV Campinas, which re-airs Globo Network programs in the region of Campinas, as well as with the radio station CBN Campinas, to grant images from the 16 monitoring cameras set up along the road complex highways. With images in real time at the broadcasters’ studios, Rota das Bandeiras is increasing its services for users, guaranteeing more efficient disclosure of information related to traffic conditions. The partnership did not generate any additional cost for the concessionaire, given that the images are transmitted online. “It is the offer of yet another important service for

the users of the Dom Pedro Corridor, since now they can have faster access to traffic information on our highways,” explained Stephan Campineiro, Communication Manager at Rota das Bandeiras. Based on the agreement, when the reporters have questions about the images they view, the concessionaire’s public relations office is responsible for answering them. In addition to guaranteeing improved efficiency, the measure leverages the positive coverage of Rota das Bandeiras in two important Campinas press publications. “During the first days, we already saw a major increase in the publication of images,” said Campineiro. “We are sure that these agreements will be positive for the parties involved: Rota das Bandeiras, EPTV and CBN and users,” he concluded.

More than 160 specialists in Information Technology from the Organization’s Businesses were present during the 1st Meeting of the IT Community of Knowledge

“O

ur main goal is to exchange different types of knowledge.” This was how André Schneiter, responsible for Information Technology (IT) at Odebrecht S.A., opened the 1 st Meeting of the IT Community of Knowledge, held on July 1 and 2 in São Paulo. More than 160 Members from the different Businesses and countries took part in the activities.

The debut event is the result of a movement that began in October 2012, when more than 400 Members joined the actions and online discussions at the Corporative Portal. “Until last year, we held the Annual IT Meeting, which was the ‘rehearsal’ for forming the Community,” said André Schneiter. “Our main goal is to exchange different types of knowledge,” said André Schneiter. Organization’s Businesses was addressed by the Professor of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Marcos Cavalcanti, who headed the entire meeting. According to him, information and knowledge are intangible assets that are crucial for creating value at companies: “Sharing knowledge generates more knowledge than there was before, and that is why the Knowledge Network is essential,” said Cavalcanti. “Our

24 24

big challenge is to also structure Odebrecht as an Organization of Knowledgeable People.” The consultant also addressed the concept of the “Society of Knowledge” and “Big Data” – a data storage system that allows for the study of people’s behavior through networks. “It’s important for the IT Member to understand the language of the Business in which he or she is inserted,” he said. “Human Beings’ sensitivity still makes the difference.”

LEARN, INTEGRATE AND MOTIVATE The first meeting featured case presentations, workshops on Systems, Infrastructure and Projects, the Suppliers’ Fair, with stands from Blackberry, Cisco, Autodesk, Telefonica, Dell, Oracle and Microsoft, and the integration dynamics. Paulo Lacerda, responsible for Support for Entrepreneurship – Operations, kicked off the lectures by presenting the Organization, its Businesses and the Odebrecht Foundation, and highlighting the diversification of the Businesses starting in 2004. He also talked about the principles, concepts and criteria of the Odebrecht Entrepeneurial Technology (TEO), the foundation for the Organization’s entrepreneurship approach, as well as about the 2020 Vision. Green IT - Sustainability at Odebrecht Ambiental was the theme of the case presented by Heloise Acco Tives Leão, responsible for IT Infrastructure at Foz | Saneatins. The goal of the project is to adequately dispose of IT equipment that is no longer being used, together with the electronic waste (cables, batteries, etc.) from the operation through partnerships with supplier companies and those specialized in recycling. “By assisting the Members, we indirectly assist the population,” said Leão. “Next year, we want to truly expand the project into the communities,” she said. with Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial starting in early 2011. “The new system began to be implemented in February of this year and already serves all of the company’s projects,” said Souza. Luis Nishimori and Renato Sobral, from Odebrecht Infrastructure Brazil, addressed the case IT Adding Value to the Business - Rio de Janeiro Integrating Consortium (CIRJ), whose challenge is to understand the demand and support the consortium in IT and Telecommunications services, with a focus on operational efficiency and costs optimization, based on people, services and information security. The most exciting and informal moment was during the integration group dynamics, conducted by the musician “Master Adamastor,” who used a methodology based on the essence of a Samba School. The participants listened to a motivational lecture that addressed administration and leadership, creativity and innovation, team work and encouragement toward involvement. Then, after being separated into groups, they learned to play musical instruments and, at the end, joined together to form the Odebrecht IT Samba Percussion Band, which presented songs and dances.

In another voting process, held before the end of the meeting, the members chose the Community leader. The elected Member was Alessandro Alves, responsible for IT at Odebrecht Oil and Gas.

Initiative Recognized A panel with the names of the IT projects made up the scenery for the Community of Knowledge. Through the space, participants voted for the Odebrecht IT Award using colorful stickers. The winning project was the Unified Badge Control System, by Anderson Munhoz from the Terra Nova contract in Rio de Janeiro, designed to assist with people control and printouts at the development. Developed using a unique method – in which each record is transformed into information –, the initiative records the access and location of each Member and presents a general overview of the construction site. In this way, the calculation of costs with meals and

administration of the sites, for example, are monitored and controlled. With the administration of the printouts, all printers are hooked up to the network and interconnected. To print, the Member simply places his or her badge near any of the devices at the construction site and the information is reported, including the costs per worker and per department (energy used, amount of CO2 released, environmental impact and water consumed). “We were able to have full control of the printouts, measure the environmental impact, launch awareness raising programs, manage costs per department, create access control and prevent waste,” reported Anderson Munhoz, referring to the positive results of the project.

Connected For the first time, a meeting of the Community of Knowledge was transmitted live via the Internet in a secure environment. A password was delivered to Members so they could listen to the lectures and view the documents presented, while also interacting with the other participants. “The fact that the majority of the members of the Community are from Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias – and naturally already interact a great deal from day-to-day – made this new feature possible without affecting the rich integration that the on-site meetings promote,” explained Olindina Dominguez, leader of CIADEN (Knowledge and Information for Supporting Business Development). Juliana Zogbi stated that during one of the work meetings to organize the event, this suggestion was made with aims of reaching the greatest possible number of people. Cláudio Zafiro, Director of the Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias Central-South Regional Office, was the first to send a question using the virtual chat tool. “I found it to be an excellent

alternative,” he said. “We don’t have any travelrelated costs and the interaction is complete.” For Zafiro, participating in the Community is important, since it promotes knowledge – a crucial item for the entrepreneur in terms of decision making: “In order to be a Knowledgeable Person, it is necessary to seek out knowledge,” he said. “The community won me over due to the ease with which I could find it and share it.” The new tool allowed more people to contribute during the meeting, regardless of the availability of their agendas or travel restrictions. “The online participation allowed people to follow along and contribute as if they were in the room, with the advantage that they could continue working normally during the breaks,” emphasized Marcelo Moreira, responsible for the Odebrecht Infrastructure Commercial area at the Federal District Administrative Center, and also speaker at the event. For Juliana Zogbi, the experience was a success: “I believe that this is a trend and it should be used more frequently by the other Communities,” she said.

A total of 84 Members have been recorded in the online environment at once. An average of 30 people remained connected during each lecture

STRATEGIC FOCUS During the opening portion of the event, Paulo Aridan, Engineering Director of the São Paulo Regional Office at Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias, talked about the expectations with the union of the Organization’s Knowledgeable People. “We hope that the presentations can help people reflect on their daily work routine,” said Aridan. “This is an opportunity to discuss and develop best practices in the real estate segment,” he said. According to Aridan, the meetings also promote the acculturation of the youth and exchange of experiences among the more mature professionals. He further reinforced the entrepreneurial vision that guides the Business: “We do not want to be the biggest, but rather the best company in the market,” he said. The meeting was focused on building the Community’s next set of objectives. In order to obtain the best results in terms of the summaries of that learned, the programming was segmented into

Sustainability, Client Relations, Productivity and Profitability. Each block included an average of four presentations, which encouraged reflection on the main strategic objectives for the Real Estate Developments using real cases. In the Productivity block, Cristiano Vasques, representative from the Hotel Invest Group – a consulting firm in the area of hotel industry investment and Odebrecht partner in projects in Brazil and Cuba –, presented the vision of the hotel as a real estate product. “This development gives the site dynamism,” said Vasques. “It increases the flow of tourists, array of services, and primarily, promotes gains for the image of that address, helping with its transformation as a reference center,” he said. The Profitability block emphasized the topic through opportunities for synergy between the Businesses. Marcelo Moreira and Aarão Albefaro, responsible for the Commercial area and for Installation Projects, respectively, at

Odebrecht Infrastructure, talked about the construction designed to optimize the operation – by Odebrecht Properties – of the Federal District Administrative Center. In the partnerships, such as, for example, with Braskem for the production of concrete slabs based on plastic spheres, the development is synonymous with good results. The project also requested price quotes of materials imported by Odebrecht Logística e Exportação (OLEx) in China, an operation that was then presented by Mauro Rehm. The professional responsible for OLEx highlighted the opportunities for the country as an alternative for supply and how the company structured its operations in the Chinese market to offer the Organization benefits. At the end, Carla Barreto, Managing Director of Odebrecht Properties, presented the partnership between the Business and Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias for the construction of the Odebrecht São Paulo Building, as well as the challenge of using the synergy at the Organization’s companies – such as Braskem for the production of raw materials for furniture; Odebrecht Ambiental for effluent treatment; and Odebrecht TransPort for entry into the parking lot using ConectCar. The Members also viewed the binder of good practices, the Community statute, and had the chance to visit a supplier exhibit with some of the innovative solutions in the market. The suppliers present included Hansgrohe, which produces raw materials focused on reducing the consumption of

makes molds for more productive structural foundations; Vicâima, with new solutions for wood frames; and Multinova, a Braskem client that produces linings for the acoustic insulation of floors.

water; Hyundai, with the latest from the Brazilian elevator market; Quickjet, which

discussed and adding new items to my AP,” he concluded.

RESULTS In addition to the summaries of what was learned, each participant left the meeting with two commitments established, which could be chosen either as including a good practice, a lesson learned or opening a discussion forum in the Portal. The virtual environment offers news, technical articles, a forum of questions and answers, and documents as sources of research for Members, and also provides all of the material from this third meeting. According to Juliana Zogbi, the forum is the tool that can most add to the work routine: “Through it, Members work as internal consultants, since often times, the answer to a question may be inside the company itself,” she said. According to Eduardo Mattos, Contract Director at Odebrecht Infrastructure, in Angola, the Community filled a gap that existed related to the exchange of experiences. “I have the opportunity to look for knowledge with other projects, as well as present the good practices developed in the country, such as the training of the Angolan people in the real estate area.” For him, the 2013 meeting was quite rich. “I am returning to Angola with the challenge of sharing the concepts

O

Established in February of this year, the partnership formed between Foz and COMPESA represents Brazil’s largest sanitation Public-Private Partnership (PPP), to be extended for a total of 35 years

n July 23, Foz and the Pernambuco Sanitation Company (COMPESA) started their sewage treatment operation in 14 municipalities of the Metropolitan Region of Recife and in the city of Goiana, located in the North Forest Zone of Pernambuco. It is the largest Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in the Sanitation sector in Brazil, and will serve 3.7 million inhabitants. The partnership with the Pernambuco State Government aims to reach 90% of the urbanized population over the next 12 years and guarantee 100% treatment for the entire volume of sewage collected in the benefitted municipalities. A total of 8,100 kilometers of sewage networks will be installed, for a total of 10,000 kilometers. The number of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) will increase from 54 to 69. In order to reach these numbers, the investments should reach as high as R$ 4 billion, to be directed

During the first 100 days, Foz will work with a large group of Members focused on cleaning and removing obstructions from part of the existing networks. During the first phase, the municipalities of Recife, Olinda, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Paulista, Cabo de Santo Agostinho and Moreno will be benefitted. In all, more than 64,000 meters of networks will be cleaned and unclogged along more

than 180 streets. Pedro Leão explained the criteria for choosing the sites: “We created a 100-day plan focused on the most critical points of the system, which are causing the most disturbances for the population at present,” he said. At the official start of the operation, Roberto Tavares, President of COMPESA, emphasized the importance of the

partnership between the public and private sectors. “It is not possible to universalize sanitation with public investments alone,” said Tavares. “We need to invest increasingly more in changing the reality of Pernambuco and Brazil.” He further pointed out: “Of the 27 Brazilian states, 22 have less than 40% sewage treatment coverage. Investing in sanitation means more health for the population.”

Most Valuable Part for Challenges In order to ensure that Members can gain a clearer idea of their careers at the Business, Odebrecht Agroindustrial launched the Career Program in July. The initiative is a support tool for the leader designed to systematically reach all the work environments and provide more information about the topic to professionals. In the process of being structured since 2012, the biggest challenge for implementing the program was involving representatives from all of the Agroindustrial Centers and the Entrepreneurial Leader Dynamic Organization ( OD-LE). “The program allows Members to understand the opportunity for growth at the company, both with changes in their career as well as changes within the same area, ” explained Almiro Senna, responsible for People Administration

at the corporate office. A total of 380 programs were surveyed, divided into five topics: Agricultural, Industry, Maintenance, Safety, Health and Environment ( SHE) and Administration. In order to ensure that the 17,000 Members have dialogue with their leaders about the topic, the People and Organization (P&O) teams of the Agroindustrial Centers were involved in order to thoroughly understand the program and train leaders from the Line. “The program is focused on the development of people, and in their capacity and desire to evolve, ” explained Almiro Senna. “We hope that, with all the career-related dialogues held between leaders and team members, each Member has a clearer idea of his or her career opportunities, ” he said. According to him, the action will also allow for the elaboration of Individual Development Plans ( PDI) , the enrichment of the program content, and primarily, reinforcement for cultural engagement, since the support material is based on the values and principles of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology ( TEO) .

Those responsible for P&O received support material for leader training. The idea is for all of them to have the right tools for work, since each one will record the career-related dialogue with their team members

Safe for Better Performances

Exercises and group dynamics are part of the programming for Always Safe, together with the presentations

In July, the Always Safe Program, promoted by the Santo Antônio Civil Consortium (CCSA), began the SHE - PRO Seminar (Workplace Safety, Health and Environment for professionals from the area). The meeting was directed at physical therapists, nurses, physicians, assistants, technicians and engineers from the Santo Antônio Civil Consortium (CCSA) and Odebrecht Infrastructure, responsible for assembly works at Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP). Participants met to align the technical concepts of SHE, with a focus on behavioral aspects, promoting more technical knowledge and encouraging them to engage in increasingly pro-active work. There was an emphasis on concepts for an effective approach on the service fronts and the importance of setting a good example. For Ítalo Damasceno Justino, Workplace Safety Assistant, the activity was highly enriching. “I believe that it is through our example that we are able to teach others,” said Justino. “This seminar expanded our vision about the way of being and acting, and how important it is to first change ourselves,” he said. Délio Galvão, Contract Director at CCSA, stated: “Always Safe is giving us the certainty that we are on the path toward excellence in Workplace Safety.” The program was created in February of 2013 by Members from different areas of the construction site and based on the commitments related to accident prevention.

Promoting Accident Prevention

André Canoas, Construction Manager, talks to workers during the DSS for the service front at the Coal Processing Plant. The Global Accident Prevention Week was organized by the Workplace Safety, Health and Environment area

From July 22-26, the Moatize Expansion Project – a Vale project being completed by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Mozambique – kicked off the Global Accident Prevention Week. With the theme “Working with Discipline Means Caring for the Future,” the campaign took the topic of Operational Discipline to all the service fronts. Through the Health and Safety Dialogues (DSS) and theater plays in the work environments and cafeteria, the campaign clarified Discipline concepts at the operations and presented examples of behaviors that may lead to deviations, such as pressure due to a lack of time, inexperience, precarious communication and excessive confidence. One of the theater plays was produced by Members of the Safety area. Willer Pinto, Director at Vale, pointed out that Moatize Expansion is one of the most highly recognized projects at the company due to the low accident rates. “Actions like this one are helping to reinforce awareness about Workplace Safety, and consequently, reducing risks,” said Pinto. For Paulo Brito, Contract Director, the compliance with safety standards will also help reduce risks.

between the top leadership and the team,” said Cristovão. “The Members talk about the problems they are dealing with on a daily basis, without any intermediary party,” he said. “This is an opportunity to talk to the leaders that we don’t see every day,” reinforced Silva.

The groups are formed by up to 10 people, indicated by their leaders, who debate on productivity, valuing the workplace, the relationship with the team and workplace safety

Meeting at the Corinthians Arena: this is the second time that the Odebrecht SSC hosts a Share Group event

Sharing Experiences In June, the Odebrecht Shared Service Center (SSC ) organized yet another meeting of the Share Group, this time at a space reserved at the Corinthians Arena. The meeting also included a guided visit to the development installations. Consisting of 20 companies, including Odebrecht, Natura, Bosh, Cielo and Saint Gobain, the Share Group meets each month to exchange information, evaluate best practices and identify the best types of operation in existing processes on the market.

In a study conducted by the group, the Odebrecht SCC stood out for obtaining the best productivity in scale and the lowest percentage of error processing compared to the other companies. “The greatest gain that we have participating in the Share Group is precisely the opportunity to exchange experiences and measure the results of our efforts,” said Marco Poiatti, Operation Leader at the SSC. “This thermometer for performance is very important for ensuring that we are always on the lookout for more efficient solutions, ” he said.

books. During the launch, all of the copies were removed and there was a waiting list. The project was then expanded to another construction sites: Nossa Senhora da Paz, Leopoldina, 23º BPM, Jardim de Alah and the Central Administrative Building. “It is great that we have access to such a variety of books at work,” said Eduardo Valoni, Information Technology Assistant, who is currently borrowing his third book. “This was the motivation I needed to get back into reading,” he said. For Maria Beatriz Costa, who came up with the idea for the project and is responsible for Internal Communication at CL4S, reading promotes well-being, together with learning and reflection. “When someone reads, they get a glimpse of a universe that is different than their own,” said Costa. “It is great when the Members want to know more about the author or want suggestions of other books,” she said.

Approximately 150 books are available in Rubem Fonseca Library. Book donations can be send to the consortium Communication area

Aligned with the Peruvian Government’s prevention policy, the Lima Subway Consortium joined the program Es Salud Seguridad Social para todos (“It’s Health – Social Security for All”)

Health at the Construction Site July 17 in Peru was marked by the launch of the government program Es Salud - Seguridad Social para Todos (“It’s Health – Social Security for All”) at the Odebrecht Infrastructure Lima Subway Consortium. With the theme “Zero Tuberculosis in the Workplace,” the goal of the action is to alert the some 5,000 Members from the contract about the disease. The initiative conducted exams and offered medical appointments for the workers and also supplied information about the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis. “In this way, we want to bring the government and private initiative together in the fight against the disease,” emphasized Virginia Baffigo, Physician and Executive President of Es Salud. During the launch event, Carlos Nostre, Contract Director, reinforced the importance of everyone’s participation and encouraged other companies to join the campaign. Peru is the first country to report Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR) – when the disease becomes resistant to the medications commonly used for treatment – and is the third highest country in terms of the rate of the disease.

Attentive to Risks In July, the Workplace Safety team of the Cambambe Hydroelectric Power Plant Facility, an Odebrecht Infrastructure project in Angola, kicked off the cycle of training about the perception of accident risks. The program is designed for Members and focused on leadership, and is part of the strategy for excellence in Sustainability in the search to eliminate the number of occurrences at the contract. Some 100 people of different areas already participated in the courses. “We seek to train them so that they can identify dangers and recognize risks in the work environment, in addition to evaluating the severity of these risks and

correcting them,” explained Daniel de Oliveira, Safety Engineer at the project. At the same time, the contract’s Emergency Brigade promoted first-aid training for members of the Internal Accident Commission (CPAT). The idea was to orient them on what to do in emergency situations. “First-aid is the immediate care provided to the victim with aims of maintaining their vital functions and ensuring that the situation does not get worse until adequate medical assistance arrives,” said Marco Ferreira, from Medline, the company that led the training. “This pre-assistance is important, since it prevents future complications and may even save lives,” he said.

Our Culture, Our Brand Get Inspired The logo is simply a fragment of the visual system that makes up an Organization’s identity. Colors, fonts, images, graphics, signal elements and even the discourse used in texts are also a part of this system. Together, they all contribute toward the recognition of the company, and therefore, it is very important to ensure visual identity in all environments, even when the brand is not applied. In Angola, the Population Resettlement Program has the “Odebrecht look” and is already inspiring other projects to adjust to the new identity. At the construction site, located in the municipality of Viana, the presence of “Odebrecht Red” can be found everywhere: on the enclosures, on the fleet and on the signs. And you, have you already incorporated the new identity into your daily activities? For more information on the Odebrecht visual guidelines, visit Brand Territory:

For the Conservation

C

aring for the environment and conserving natural resources in a systematic and integrated way generates significant results for everyone. This is the thinking of the members of the Bahia State Manioc Starch Producers’ Cooperative (COOPAMIDO), with head office in the municipality of Laje, located 103 kilometers from the capital city Salvador. “Since it was created four years ago, COOPAMIDO has assumed the premise of complying with environmental law and operating based on a sustainable business model, one which adds productivity and social responsibility,” said Jairo Souza, President of the cooperative, which is associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners.

ENVIRONMENTAL PARTNERSHIPS Seeking to promote the generation of jobs and income, COOPAMIDO establishes partnerships with farmers from Laje and from surrounding municipalities to encourage the leasing of their lands to the local farmers, aiming to recover the degraded pastures. These farmers then use the lands to grow manioc and deliver the roots to the cooperative. At the Bahiamido processing industry, the manioc root is transformed into starch, a component used by industries of different kinds. In order to be a part of this process and be benefitted, the farmers must develop actions of an

environmental character, such as reforestation and the recovery of water sources. Besides this, the partner comes to work as a multiplier. “We did not develop any practice focused on the Environment in the region,” explained cooperative member Marceli Andrade, a resident of the community of Cruzeiro in Laje. “With the installation of COOPAMIDO, we began to view this as a commitment and replicate the knowledge for the rural producers in my community,” she reported. At six partner farms that are directly associated with COOPAMIDO, 800 hectares of legal reserve are maintained, where 84 water sources were being recovered or protected. “We want to offer people opportunities to develop their activities, taking conservation practices as a reference,” said Jairo Souza. “It works like a daily educational process, one focused on promoting changes in the region,” he said. According to Alan Sousa, responsible for the cooperative’s environmental pillar, conservation ensures that the manioc planting areas are better used. “The forest that surrounds the crops guarantees the presence of the natural enemies of pests and reduces the risk of the transmission of diseases,” said Sousa. “The plantations are managed using practices that help increase the flow from the water sources,” he said. In order to apply knowledge and operate pursuant to law, COOPAMIDO also receives the support of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the Bahia State Public Prosecutor’s Office (representation in the municipality of Santo Antônio de Jesus) and the Federal University of the Recôncavo of Bahia.

This is the reality of the brothers Alberto and Thiago dos Santos, ages 19 and 16, respectively, residents of the Karin Settlement located in the rural zone of Ituberá, region of the Bahia Southern Lowlands. The youth, both second-year students at the Igrapiúna Rural Family Home (CFR-I), receive the support of their parents to conduct their work in the fields and have already planted their own crops along 1.5 hectares of land located on the family’s property. “I began an intercropped plantation with rubber trees, cacao and banana, known as the SAF – Agroforest System,” said Alberto. “In eight months, I’ll harvest the bananas and guarantee the income to reinvest in my business,” he said. His brother Thiago developed a nursery with seedlings of the heart of palm bush, which are ready to be planted: “Despite the fact that few farmers cultivate heart of palm here in the community, I know that it is a special crop, since it has

transformed the lives of many people from the region,” said Thiago. Thiago’s choice is also based on his plans for the future, since he will become a member of the Bahia Southern Lowlands Heart of Palm Producers’ Cooperative (COOPALM). “As a cooperative member, I have the guarantee that I can transport my own production and sell it at the best price. In addition to this, I also want to encourage my friends and neighbors to join COOPALM as well,” he said. Their mother, Marilene dos Santos, age 46, emphasizes her sons’ discipline. “Their studies at CFR-I helped a lot,” she said. “I don’t even have to remind them to take care of their duties. When I look, there they are in the fields, plowing the earth, planting the seedlings,” she said, smiling. The youth also participated in the Tribute to the Future Program, which supports the educationalproduction projects developed by the graduates of the Family Homes.

PAIR THAT PRODUCES Another two brothers have had experiences similar to those of Alberto and Thiago. The youth Darlan, age 18, and his brother Erivan Conceição, age 19, residents of the Limoeiro Settlement in Igrapiúna, also study at CFR-I and help their parents care for the manioc and guarana crops. With the

support of Tribute to the Future, they began to work together to prepare 1.5 hectares for intercropped planting – cacao, rubber tree and banana. “I really liked to work with agriculture,” said Darlan. “If we learn how to conduct the activities well, there is no reason to leave the rural life,” he said. The youth further reported that, despite already knowing about agricultural work, the experience earned at CFR-I has contributed directly toward improving his knowledge. “I didn’t know how to fertilize correctly and this affected the growth of the crops,” he said. “It was at CFR-I that I learned to better care for my crops and even those which my parents maintained on the property.” Erivan added: “I want to show my community that it is possible to live in the rural zone and earn income,” he said. “This begins within the home, orienting our parents on the best way to do it. When you work the right way, the result comes immediately.” COOPALM and CFR-I are a few of the institutions that are part of the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), an initiative supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners.

Community Recorded

The people of the province of North Lunda now have personal documentation, such as their birth certificate

With the arrival of the Catata Lóvua Project to the Province of North Lunda, in Angola, it was observed that the residents from the local communities experienced a great deal of difficulty obtaining personal documents, together with the problems caused by the lack of the same. Based on the work conducted by the Traditional Authorities, called SOBAS, the project identified that the members of the population did not have a Personal Identification Card – the first document required to become an Angolan citizen –, and because of this, it was harder for them to work or travel along the highways. The Social Responsibility sector at the Odebrecht Infrastructure development then decided to establish a partnership with the North Lunda Government through a Province and Communal Justice and Administration Delegation. The project offered accommodations, transport and meals to the employees of government so that they could provide all of the documents to the population. The group issues the Personal Identification Card to then create the Birth Certificate and Identity Card, which every citizen over age 10 must have. After 15 days of work, 991 documents were delivered in seven communities. The idea is to serve the 27 communities from the Catata Lóvua Project area of influence.
