Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros: 35 Years with a New ‘Look’

C

orporate security has always been present at the Odebrecht Businesses since the Organization’s foundation in 1944. The concern with the Organization’s assets and Members has become more complex throughout the history of its development. For a long time, the contracting of insurance was outsourced by regional brokers, who selected the insurance companies responsible for issuing the policies. At the end of the 1970s, with the growth of its operations in engineering in Brazil, the diversification of the Businesses and the first contracts abroad, it became necessary to rethink risk management and the measurement of the Organization’s coverage types. Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros was created to protect shareholders’ tangible and intangible equity. Founded in August 1978, it supports the entrepreneur-partners at all the

Businesses and in all countries in which the Organization operates.

A NEW BRAND In order to celebrate 35 years of operations in Brazil and abroad, Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros is assuming a new identity with a new brand. From OCS - Odebrecht Administradora e Corretora de Seguros, the company is changing its name to Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros. Its Members will have access to new e-mail signatures, business cards, office supplies and other materials. In an internal statement, the leaders of Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros, Bettina Skelton, Kátia Luz and Luis Barretto emphasized the importance of the Organization’s new visual identity: “The new architecture of the Odebrecht brands helps strengthen us as a global Organization,” they said.

Guarantee the protection of the Businesses’ equity and cover the engineering risks of the developments built: some of the objectives of Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros

Learn more about the history of Odebrecht Corretora de Seguros in the Timeline, found on page 6 of this edition of Odebrecht News. INSURANCE IS NOT A COST The importance of contracting insurance is part of the Odebrecht Organization culture and this practice began back with its very foundation. One example of this is the episode that occurred right after the start of Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO).

For one project, a single truck had been purchased through financing and required bodywork. Aware of the importance of that equity, which was designed to generate new wealth, Norberto Odebrecht decided to insure it before sending it to the joinery. The following day, a fire destroyed the joinery and the truck.

The Challenge of Building an Underground Wall An important phase of the PROSUB-EBN (Submarine Development Program – Naval Shipyard and Base) construction work is currently underway in Rio de Janeiro: the construction of an underground steel and concrete wall, called the diaphragm wall, by Odebrecht Infrastructure. The wall will permit the installation of the dry docks – a site for the maintenance and exchange of nuclear fuel in submarines – and will support the side load of the soil so that it does not collapse during the excavation, in addition to serving as a barrier against the sea water. “Wall 1 is already ready, and Walls 2 and 3 are currently in the phase of removing the guide wall, given this name because it is designed to guide the excavation tool,” said Leonardo Veras, Civil Engineer and leader of the construction work. “Walls 7, 8, 9 and 10 are now being built,” he said. During the first phase, the excavation work takes place, forming spaces with varying depths and widths called lamellas. The lamellas fit into one another, forming the wall’s continuity. For the excavation, a piece of hydraulic equipment called a hydromill is used, which drills the soil until reaching the rocky layer, varying from 28 and 65 meters in depth. At the same that it cuts the soil, the hydromill inserts stabilizing silt designed to make the excavated walls consistent. A steel reinforcement is placed in the lamella and that is when the concrete laying process begins. The concrete used is supplied by the concrete center installed in the North Area of PROSUB.

Santo Antônio HPP: Important Stages at the GG3 In August, Odebrecht Infrastructure finished the electromechanical assembly work for the first Generator Unit of the Generation 3 Group (GG3), located at the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant in Rondônia.

After 189 days of work, the electromechanical assembly work was completed for the first GG3 Generator Unit. The third Generator Group has 12 turbines

The team testing the electrical auxiliary system panels at GG3 includes 40 Members, including commissioners, Power and Control electricians, assistants and helpers

22

Weighing 1,400 tons, the machine is one of the world’s largest bulb turbines, with an installed power of 71.05 megawatts. The activities at Unit 21 fall under the responsibility of the Commissioning area, which will conduct the necessary tests for guaranteeing the start of the energy generation. The month of August also marked the start of the tests in the GG3 electrical auxiliary system panels – after the activities in GG1 and GG2. The idea is to check the operationality of the equipment that guarantees the proper functioning of the first GG3 Generator Units, scheduled to begin commercial operation by the end of this year. Known as BOPE (Balance Of Plant Electric), the auxiliary electrical systems supply energy to other systems. The tests consist of “cold” tests (before being powered) and “hot” tests (with the powered panels). According to Paulo Teodoro da Silva, Commissioning Coordinator at BOPE, in order to complete the work it is necessary to have constant investments in the training of the team: “The Commissioning is a school for those who want to learn,” said Silva. “Of this group, Odebrecht will be able to make Members available for other programs, opening up paths to new developments,” he said.

More Santo Antônio HPP: the Work at GG4 In August, the Odebrecht Infrastructure teams began the electromechanical assembly of the first Stay Column at Power House 4 (GG4) of the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant, currently being built in the former bed of the Madeira River in Rondônia. The part is the first of the Generator Unit to be installed and is designed to sustain the entire Unit set. After that, the Stay Column will be joined with the Stay Cone and together, the two will form the Bulb Case set. After that, the well will be passed on for the civil construction work to lay the parts in with concrete. After it is paved, the well will be released for the assembly of the other Generator Unit components. “It is an extraordinary milestone, since we have now started the first Generator Unit of the last Power House,” said Renato Alonso, Assembly Manager. “Another 12 units and we will complete this grandiose development. We are certain that we’ll meet our goals within the deadlines and at the costs agreed upon,” he said. The electromechanical assembly of the 12 GG4 suction tubes were completed in August. The following phase falls under the responsibility of the Civil Project team, which will finalize the concrete laying of the parts. Each suction tube consists of five ferrules, launched at the bases prepared by the civil construction work teams. After the launch, all necessary adjustments are made, together with the welding process and locking of the set. The suction tube is the first of the metal

parts of the Generator Units to be assembled. The assembly of the GG4 tubes began in March of this year. Renato Alonso attributes Members with the merit and success achieved in terms of the rates, deadlines and costs: “This team is extremely dedicated and committed to the result, and that is why we were able to achieve some extraordinary records,” said Alonso.

Members celebrated the start of the electromechanical assembly work for the first GG4 Stay Column. The energy generation at the first unit is set to begin in December 2014

A New Kikagil in Angola On August 22, the Expressways contract, currently being undertaken by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Luanda, reopened Kikagil Street – part of the project that connects the avenues 21 de Janeiro and Pedro de Castro Van-Dúnem “Loy.” Extending 1.3 kilometers, the stretch received some structural improvements, primarily designed to reduce the daily traffic jams along the accessways to the country’s capital. During the celebration, Jorge Bengue, the Luanda Province Director of Transit, Traffic and Mobility, declared that the highway will allow for the improved fluidity and organization of traffic. According to Bengue, the street connects two avenues with intense traffic, and their transversal streets are important axes for the mobility of this zone. The Province Director of the Angola Road Institute (INEA), Rosaria Kiala, emphasized the work completed by Odebrecht and commented on the benefits for the region, considering that together with the remodeling of the road, there was also the restoration of items such as sidewalks, the lighting system, sewage drainage network, sign system, asphalt paving, rainwater drainage and regularization of the sub-bed.

The revitalization work along the street Rua do Kikagil, part of the Expressways project in Luanda, lasted six months

Solutions in Plastic for Civil Construction During Concrete Show 2013 – one of the main national civil construction events held on August 28-30 in São Paulo – Braskem presented plastic products developed in partnership with clients for use in the sector. The resins have played an important role in the development of products designed to preserve natural resources while also boosting efficiency and quality for infrastructure and building. The items presented were divided into the areas of sanitation, buildings, construction sites, geosynthetics and infrastructure. The diversity of solutions represented the company’s investment in innovation to elaborate parts that meet the demands of the construction market in search of efficiency and sustainability. Until December 2012, Braskem deposited 650 patents and 18% of its earnings with resins were generated by products launched over the past three years. “Civil construction is an important area

The visitors to the fair also had the opportunity to learn about more than 30 solutions created with the plastics produced by Braskem: polyethylene, polypropylene and PVC. Among the products featured are the helmets made from the “green” polyethylene known as I’m green TM derived from sugarcane, as well as the geosynthetics for reinforcement, drainage, filters and the waterproofing of the terrains. Another new feature is the BubbleDeck system, which uses plastic spheres to reduce the weight of the slabs and polypropylene to occupy the concrete zone that does not exercise any structural function, helping to streamline the work while lowering the cost and environmental impact. Furthermore, the expanded polyethylene covers are a solution designed to reduce the noises between the pavements to be applied between the slab and sub-floor. PVC, used heavily in construction for the

for the country’s development and has proven to be in constant development,” stated Mônica Evangelista, responsible for the Polypropylene Market Development at Braskem. “In order to support this growth, we are investing in research and in the expansion of our portfolio with more sustainable products that bring more practicality, efficiency, comfort and quality to the construction projects,” she said.

production of pipes and connections, is now being used for different applications. One example is the PVC Concrete construction system, innovative technology that allows workers to quickly construct different types of buildings on an industrial scale. The system cuts losses due to debris, helps reduce material waste and the consumption of water and energy, while also allowing for expressive gains in productivity.

fast news Pedro Moreira provided an overview for the two years of Transoeste construction work: “We combined the population’s need, client’s dream and Odebrecht’s capacity for achievement to transform the project into a reality.”

Highlights of the Urban Infrastructure Forum The construction of BRT Transoeste – Lots 1 and 2, which extends between the Alvorada Terminal and the road Estrada da Matriz – was the theme of the 1 st Urban Infrastructure Forum, promoted during the 2013 Rio de Janeiro Construir Fair, held from August 14-18. Pedro Moreira, Contract Director at Odebrecht Infrastructure, presented the company’s historical presence in Rio de Janeiro for more than 45 years, and talked about how it is currently responsible for important projects that are changing the city’s reality. He talked about the development’s challenges, the innovative technologies used and the solutions implemented from day-to-day. According to Pedro Moreira, the greatest challenge was completing the project in a densely population area and with different interferences without causing any major

26

impact on people’s lives. “We sought to understand the demands of the local population and we created joint solutions to minimize the daily impacts,” said Moreira. “In this way, we made the community a partner in the construction work,” he explained. The technological innovations used in the Grota Funda Tunnel was another highlight of the Contract Director’s lecture. “The tunnel has unique control and automation systems in Latin America,” said Moreira. “The project has been an example in new tunnel construction, so much so that our methodology was already sought out by seven cities,” he said. The new features cited by Moreira include the gas control system, automatic firefighting system and special ventilation system, the anti-graffiti walls that support the impacts of collisions, the LED lighting and anti-collapse system, among others.

Improved Efficiency and Reduced Costs Offering specialized services with efficiency, corporate security and reduced costs: this is the goal of the Bahia Southern Lowlands Shared Service Center (SSC), installed in Ituberá. The result of a partnership established between the companies Artconta Consultoria Contábil and IQ Tecnologia, the SSC serves the institutions associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners. A model adopted at some of the Odebrecht Organization’s Businesses, the SSC supports financial, tax, accounting, personnel administration and information technology processes. Umberto Matteoni, responsible for introducing the SSC in the Southern Lowlands, emphasized that the proposal is focused on the development of the region and on people’s growth. “The idea is for the companies to be able to concentrate on what is essential for their operations,” said Matteoni, who

also headed the installation of the Odebrecht SSC in São Paulo. “The result of this work will be seen over the medium and long terms, since it involves the training and qualification of the professionals involved,” he said. The Southern Lowlands SSC began its activities approximately one year ago. Since then, it has been reorganizing and standardizing the processes of the institutions associated with PDCIS. “The relaxation of the flows allows us to focus on our objectives, giving Members more freedom to monitor the goals established, assured Volney Fernandes, leader of the Strategic Environmental Service Cooperative, associated with the Land Conservation Organization (OCT), one of the clients of the Southern Lowlands SSC. For Leonardo Brandão, leader of the Southern Lowlands Dynamic Organization, it is crucial that the institutions have synergy and commitment. “We should emphasize that, in just a short period of time, the institutions understood the true role of the SSC and the results are already visible and just tend to increase,” said Brandão.

Productive Inclusion in Debate The creation of “Multi-Sector Strategies for the Productive Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups” was the theme of the meeting promoted on August 27 in Salvador by the Inter-American Development Bank. The opening of the meeting included participation by the directors of the state and federal governments, in addition to the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP), which was represented by Márcia Lapa, Professional Education Manager. Data presented by Andrew Morrison, Head of the Gender and Diversity Unit at BID, reveal that in Brazil, 82 million people present a profile of vulnerability. He also talked about the institution’s role elaborating the studies concentrated in Bahia, Ceará and Sergipe that will offer support when formulating public policies. After that, Gleide Costa, Coordinator of the Brazilian Ministry of Labor and Employment, and Bruno França, from the Ministry of Social Development, addressed the National Employment System (SINE) and the work market of vulnerable individuals in Mercosul, respectively. During the opening portion of the meeting, Márcia Lapa talked about the partnership between public entities and a development the size of EEP. “We are building a successful project, basing our work on actions that consider, primarily, the scenario of vulnerability that we sometimes find,” said Lapa.

ugust marked the opening of the 2013 onsite modules of the Odebrecht Organization Knowledge Network Training Programs. The initiative began in 2011, based on the need for the Members’ technical training, as identified in the Communities of Knowledge.“During the meeting of the Rail Transport Community, held in Venezuela, we identified training opportunities in

34

the area of tunnels,” said Olindina Dominguez, responsible for CIADEN (Knowledge and Information to Support Business Development).“The leader of the Community itself needed to mobilize people for his construction project and there were no Members available with such training.“That was when we realized that besides being an important instrument for disseminating Education Through Work, the

Personal Growth and the Organization Communities could also contribute toward Education For Work,” she said. Learn more about the first onsite meetings of this year for the members of the Contract Management, Highway and Rail Transport Communities of Knowledge.

Management area gathered for Module 1 of the Contract Management Training Program, held in São Paulo. The course was structured into four months, with two phases of distance teaching – the first was held in June and July – as well as two onsite phases. The main objectives include:to develop competencies, emphasize the importance of collective efforts and align the commercial actions of the contract teams and Legal Support areas.

With 210 people signed up, the Contract Management Training Program takes place in three different groups. The first, which began in June, included the participation of 63 Members. The others will take place in 2014

and continue to learn and grow at the Organization,” he said.

PROMOTING PRODUCTIVITY Based on the Highway Community of Knowledge, there was the development of the first edition of the Paving Training Program to recover the fundamental concepts related to paving work and allow for the advancement and dissemination of such knowledge. The idea is to promote and disseminate good and correct engineering practices at the Organization to obtain increased quality levels when building highways. The program has two distance modules and two onsite ones. The first onsite one was held from August 12-16 in São Paulo. With content focused on scientific knowledge and the exploration and analysis of case studies, the event addressed everything from topics related to the physical-chemical and geomorphologic characteristics of the different existing regions,

38

to the precautions related to the “flatness” of the pavements (how flat the surface is, to a point that it will produce comfort for users). During the meeting, Mauro Hueb, Community leader and Senior Officer of Odebrecht Infrastructure in Cuba, highlighted that the program goal is the quest for excellence in highway construction quality.“We need to be excellent without being required to practice engineering in its fullest sense,” said Hueb. After all, engineering is the very essence of our Business,” he said.

ROUTES FOR INFORMATION Members in the Production and Engineering programs (RP II and RC I) of the Organization’s developments requiring excavation work in tunnels had the chance to participate in the third edition of the Tunnel Worker Training Program. From May to November, the course takes place in two modules that combine distance teaching with two onsite meetings.

The pioneer group was taught in 2011, when the Trail Transport Community of Knowledge identified the need to accelerate the training of professionals and develop the technical and theoretical aspects of underground excavation in NATM (sequential excavation of solid rock that uses, among other things, projected concrete and lattice girders as support)

Maia, responsible of Production and Equipment of Line 5 – Lilás of the São Paulo Subway and Coordinator of this edition, conducted the event with integration activities and summaries of the learning at the end of each day – promoting the discussion of the lessons learned and encouraging reflection of the topics addressed. The agenda also involved a visit to the

and the TBM (the tunnel boring machine that excavates and lines the tunnel, informally known as “tatuzão”).“This training is very important for complementing the technical training of those Members who participate in the underground work, primarily for the younger ones,” said Danilo Abdanur, Community leader and the professional responsible for Production at the Line 2 construction work for the Los Teques Subway in Venezuela.“We have achieved some good results and we will continue to improve and mold the program based on the related demand,” he said. The first meeting of 2013 took place during the week of August 12-16 in São Paulo, and included a complement to the study of the four disciplines that make up the first module:geology and geotechnique; NATM; Drill & Blast; and risk management. Nilton Vargas, consultant at Neolabor and Academic Coordinator of the program, and Carlos Henrique Turolla

construction work along a stretch of the São Paulo Subway Line 5, when 26 participants were able to tour the stave factory and view the TBM that is being used to open up the tunnel. During the second module, started during the sequence that extends until the end of November, the Members learned more about the TBM and Workplace Safety.A new meeting is scheduled for the week of November 4 to consolidate learning and finish the training for this group.

During the lecture on risk management, the participants of the Tunnel Worker training answered “true or false” questions about the topic of NATM

Commitment to Members On August 19, PROSUB-EBN (Submarine Development Program – Naval Shipyard and Base) signed the National Commitment to Improving Work Conditions. The initiative was created in 2012 by the Brazilian Federal Government and is designed to improve the work conditions at the country’s construction sites. At the project, a commission formed by seven Members nominated by the trade union will offer assistance three hours per week to receive the demands of the workers, propose solutions and help resolve problems. The union between this group and another three Members indicated by Odebrecht Infrastructure forms the Bipartite Work Relations Committee, which assumed office and was presented to the Members.

In order to monitor the action, there was the creation of Permanent National Desk for Improving Work Conditions in the Construction Industry, with representatives from the government, business sector and trade union centers. The group will be coordinated by the General Department of the Presidency of the Republic together with the Ministry of Labor and Employment. In addition to serving as a permanent space for discussions, the initiative has the responsibility of receiving and disclosing those companies that join. “The goal is for all civil construction developments to assume the Commitment, establishing a new relationship between employers and workers,” emphasized Manoel Dias, Minister of Labor and Employment.

T

he brothers Luis Gildo, 33, and Luis Wilson, 37, are examples of union wherever they are. Both born in the municipality of Assaré, in rural Ceará, they left Brazil’s Northeast region in search of better opportunities. Since they left their native city, they have worked on construction projects in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Porto Velho. “When people leave their home, they don’t have any ‘pre-set’ place to go,” revealed Wilson. After eight years working on Petrobras developments, Luis Gildo received a proposal from the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP) to work as a Hydraulic Supervisor for the revitalization of the Inhaúma Shipyard in Rio de Janeiro. The activities began with the The brothers Luis Gildo (in green) and Luis Wilson (in blue) are already working on projects in São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Porto Velho. Administrative Building No. 63. It was June 2012. “At the time, the project was only 12 days old and now we are completing the services and will start working on another building,” he said with a satisfied smile. One month after he was contracted, Gildo recommended Wilson, who is an Industrial Plumber. “Where I am is where my brother is, and vice versa,” reinforced Gildo. And not only his brother. “After me came my nephew and my niece’s husband,” explained Wilson. Residents for the past 10 years of the neighborhood of Caju, located in the Downtown region of the Rio de Janeiro capital, the brothers stated that they were pleased with the new work opportunities. “I have a health insurance plan for myself and my children, a food staples basket and

overtime pay,” he said. “I can get home in 10 minutes on foot,” said Luis Gildo. His brother added: “Here, everyone uses complete PPE [personal protection equipment] and there is a maximum concern with safety.”

TRANSFORMATIONS IN THE OLD RIO DE JANEIRO NEIGHBORHOOD With the installation of EEP, Luis Gildo and Luis Wilson stated that Caju is also seeing some major improvements: “We live on a street where there was a lot of drug trafficking. Now, you don’t see any more armed criminals around here. Not to mention the restaurants. Several of them closed and reopened,” they said. One of the oldest neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro – it was first populated in 1800 –, Caju houses an important port area in the city, in addition to Caju Cemetery, the largest in Rio de Janeiro, and several different military installations. And if the brothers plan to return to Ceará one day? “I want to save a lot of money and go back to live there without stress,” said Wilson. “I brought my wife and children. I have a goal and I will reach it,” he said. Differently from the Ceará brothers, Paulo Victor Rangel is from Rio de Janeiro, but also lives in Caju. It is the first time that the 25-year-old Systems Analyst has worked on a construction project. “The pace is more intense, but there is an enormous amount to

learn, since I need to understand the details of each area to offer the best solution,” he said. The youth is optimistic about the arrival of companies to the neighborhood. “They generate job opportunities, you know? “Just look at how many people leave their homes on foot around here. They are all residents of the area,” he said. Even Paulo did his part. He recommended his neighbor for the position of General Service Assistant, and one week later, the two were working together at EEP. When the challenge is a big one, union and solidarity are ingredients you cannot do without.

Paulo Victor Rangel, Systems Analyst and also resident of Caju, pointed out the professional growth: “The pace of work is intense, but there is an enormous amount to learn.”

The Subway Route is B

F

or some historians, Panama was said to mean “an abundance of fish and butterflies.” Others attribute the country’s name to the majestic tree locally called the “Panama,” a low-canopy shade trade under which families gather. Currently, the Línea Uno (Line One) Consortium – in which Odebrecht Infrastructure holds 51% stake – is

62

promoting the Educate to Conserve Program with aims of planting trees and increasing the attractiveness the first line of the Panama Subway, while also raising environmental awareness among students and teachers from the schools located near it. The program has already trained 1,200 students, ages 11 to 13, together with 60 educators in seminars and workshops

that demonstrate the importance of sowing and caring for plants and seedlings. The initiative also has 11 greenhouses that are located at the teaching institutions, where the youth are in charge of cultivating the tree species. According to Kenia Acosta, responsible for Community Relations at the consortium, when the seedlings

reach a considerable size, they will be transplanted in the development’s areas of influence. “Transforming the youth into the leaders of the program means ensuring that they become guardians of the Environment,” said Acosta. “These students are responsible for protecting the ‘green’ route, she emphasized. is also to plant more than 20,000 seedlings of different species – including shrub and wood-producing – along the 15.8 kilometers of the subway’s Line 1, “painting” the sites in an attractive green due to the trees and their flowers. In this way, the population will be benefitted with crucial elements that emphasize the landscape of Panama City, in addition to preserving the Environment.

SUPPORT OF THE COMMUNITIES During the course of the Educate to Conserve activities, the communities neighboring the project began to join the initiative and also “painted” their work areas and homes “green.” The program also reached the Curundú Urban Renewal Housing Project – undertaken by Odebrecht –, where children who live in the region and Members of the Línea Uno Consortium planted over 1,200 seedlings. The tree planting effort was promoted in partnership with Panamanian institutions, such as the Panama Subway Department, National Police Community Preventive Unit (UPC), National Environmental Authority (ANAM), Municipality of Panama (MUPA) and the country’s Ministry of Education (MEDUCA).

64

The Educate to Conserve Program has already promoted the planting of 5,540 native tree seedlings in Panama

In order to protect the species and leave the sites looking more attractive, the plants are fenced in using ornamental pots, produced at the contract through the reuse of palettes and wood

Expansion of the Farmers The Capanda Agroindustrial Family Agricultural Program, located in the Angolan Province of Malanje, called Kulonga Pala Kukula – established by Odebrecht Infrastructure four years ago – has entered a new phase of expansion. In February of this year, it changed its name to Kukula Ku Moxi, when new producers sowed the first produce seeds. At that time, the program has 120 producers in 11 communities. The program currently has more than 500 participants, granted that 323 already sell their products in 21 neighborhoods of the region, and another 192 will harvest over the coming months. In August, the average sales per producer totaled US$120.00, a growth from the US$36.00 per month defined as the poverty line by the United Nations Organization (UNO). Kukula Ku Moxi has the goal of supporting 600 families by the end of this year, thereby increasing the participants’ income, improving their living conditions and also cooperating with the communities’ sustainability. To achieve this, the program forms partnerships with both public and private entities, both inside the Organization and out, which offer financial, logistics

and administrative support – such as the companies SODEPAC, Maersk Oil, Sonangol and the Cacuso Municipal Administration. The partners are also clients that purchase the foods. Among these are GAMEK, the Ritz Hotels and the Odebrecht projects in the country: Laúca, Cambambe, Biocom and NossoSuper.

Music for the Construction Site In August, the Young Concert Musician Academy Project, formed by youth who bring classical music to different parts of Brazil, gave performances at the South Line 4 Consortium and Olympic Park construction sites, both Odebrecht Infrastructure projects in Rio de Janeiro. Under the artistic direction of Simone Leitão and regency of Daniel Guedes, the group played some of the classics of Brazilian musicians Villa-Lobos and Guerra-Peixe and the compositors Mozart and Shostakovich. “We like to play in environments that generally do not have classical music as part of their daily routine,” explained Simone Leitão. “It was gratifying to be at the projects that will benefit thousands of people,” he said. Electrician José Luiz, Member of the South Line 4 Consortium, attended the concert and recorded it in photos and video. “I feel flattered to be able to listen to an orchestra of this size,” he said. “The performance was wonderful and it’s great to be able to hear music while at work.” Some 100 students assisted by the Darcy Vargas Foundation – an institution that is supported by the Porto Novo Concessionaire – also attended the performance by the Young Concert Musician Academy.

To Serve the Community Some 100 low income families received assistance through the New Lima Roads project, currently being completed by Odebrecht in Peru. Members joined forces to collect clothing in a good state of conservation, together with income to purchase blankets in order to protect these people from the cold in a region located at Km 40 of the Panamericana Norte Highway. Created and implemented by Members, the campaign was called “Together we Can Beat the Cold.” The infrastructure work for the project is concentrated on the Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sul and Ramiro Prialé highways. The construction of clovers, returns and walkways all help organize transit in Lima.

After collecting warm clothing and purchasing blankets, the Members of New Lima Roads delivered the items to the communities on August 29
