I believe that this activity was an excellent opportunity for us to put this into practice,” said Alain Arcalji, responsible for supporting the Investments’ activities. AMÉRICA LATINA AND LATINVEST

Transversality is also among the focal points of América Latina. According to Luiz Mameri, 16 contracts are projected, in synergy with Engenharia Industrial, Latinvest, Ambiental, Latin Fund, Braskem and Agroindustrial

For the first time, Odebrecht Infraestrutura - América Latina and Odebrecht Latinvest gathered together Senior Officers, Contract Directors, and Investment Directors for the Annual Meeting held during the morning of December 16, in Costa do Sauípe, Bahia. “Our objective is to assess 2013, the challenges we have ahead of us, and to create an environment of understanding between people from engineering and our area of investments,” said Luiz Mameri, Entrepreneurial Leader of Odebrecht Infrastructure – Latin America, during the opening. The importance of public-private partnerships and concessions was the subject of the presentation by Jorge

Barata, President and CEO of Odebrecht Latinvest. He discussed the main highlights of the business. In Peru, IIRSA Norte and IIRSA Sul invested in new projects and conducted a satisfaction survey with highway users. “At IIRSA Sul we had a 71% approval rating, and at IIRSA Norte the approval rating was 80%.” The concession holder Rotas de Lima, in turn, has turned highways into communication routes. In Colombia, the concession holder Rota do Sol recorded 1,000 days without accidents with time off from work, and it promoted Traffic Education programs for communities in the surrounding area. According to Jorge Barata, the challenges for 2014 are the following: integrate and develop knowledgeable people with a profile that meets the characteristics of the investment businesses; leveraging the engineering projects together with Odebrecht Infrastructure – Latin America to optimize the investment and operation and maintenance costs; guarantee that the investments are feasible; define and monitor the Business’ performance and efficiency indicators; strengthen Workplace Safety and highway safety and consolidate the Odebrecht Latinvest brand as an investor company, presenting

the international competency in the operation of transport and logistics assets. For Luiz Mameri, the major challenge for Latinvest is synergy between the investment and engineering areas. People, Productivity and Work Safety were presented by Luiz Mameri as focal points for América Latina this year. “In 2013, we beat our record for economic and financial indicators. Our results were excellent this year.” The Entrepreneurial Leader further pointed out the launch of the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development in Colombia and in Ecuador; the progress of the work at Porto Mariel in Cuba, and Highway CA-02 in Guatemala; inauguration of the Curundú project in Panamá; the Safety and Productivity

programs, and the process of selling carbon credits from the Chaglla Hydroelectric Plant in Peru; the opportunities for new contracts in Mexico; the conclusion of five projects and winning a new contract in the Dominican Republic; the Sarmiento project in Argentina, and the meeting of Young Builders, which gathered 150 participants together. For 2014, the América Latina teams face the following challenges: promoting participants, particularly Young Partners; qualifying dialogue between Leaders and Team Members; mobilizing new DSs and DCs; training middle management in Occupational Safety; establishing a Communication Policy; promoting Sustainable Development, and developing synergy between the various businesses.

“In 2013, Odebrecht Latinvest had 2,500 employees, and our projection for 2014 is to reach 3,700 people,” said Jorge Barata

3,700 people, and 2,750 were hired in Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. THE POWER OF SMALL COMPANIES In the session “Discussions with the DP,” Marcelo Odebrecht answered questions asked by the participants in the 2013 E&C Annual Meeting. The ongoing dissatisfaction with results – one of the characteristics of the Odebrecht executive, was one of the subjects discussed: “We must create more value for the Organization, from the inside out. We need to be stronger to search for values and results.” For the DP, an entrepreneur must have two virtues: “To be demanding of himself, and tolerant of everything around him.” Marcelo Odebrecht emphasized the Organization as a confederation of Small Companies: “The Small Company

leaders are very important because they train people and create results. Everything is a consequence of that.” The focal points listed include productivity, improvement in assessing synergies, and internal and external governance, selectivity in contracts, individual assessment, investments, and the Code of Conduct. “I am very proud of what you all have done over the years,” he concluded.

“Little by little, millions of people will have more access to our services, they will get to know us, and they will recognize us. We need to be capable of bringing in more people with skills and talent, young people and more mature people alike,” Marcelo Odebrecht affirmed

Good Practices Shared and Awarded

T

he Organization’s

decentralization and geographic spread create the constant challenge of disseminating knowledge and good practices between Members. As a way of overcoming such challenge, the Destaque Award was created, in 1992, as the first structured program of the Odebrecht Knowledge Network, designed to record, publicize and encourage the reuse of creative solutions. “The initiative is focused on recognizing Knowledgeable People at the Organization, encouraging Members to work productively and creatively and exchange experiences,” emphasized Fernanda Camera, responsible for the Knowledge and Information to Support Business Development (CIADEN) Knowledge Network program. A total of 4,272 projects from 8,500 Members were signed up for

the 22 nd edition of the Destaque Award, many of them considered examples at different contracts. One of these is the BubbleDeck System, which uses plastic spheres inserted between two iron and concrete frames, allowing for the construction of more resistant and lightweight slabs, used for the first time in Brazil at the Odebrecht head office in Salvador. Since then, the idea has been replicated at Mariel Port in Cuba and the Federal District Administrative Center in Brasília. The works are entered in the categories of Innovation; Young Partner; Knowledge Reuse; Environment; Community Relations; Workplace Health and Safety; Continuous Improvement and Adding Value to the Client. Celebrated Launch Event Paiva Reserve, located in Pernambuco, will soon receive a new development. On December 7, Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias launched the Verano residential development. Some 280 people, including clients, Members and partners, took part in the launch event held at the neighborhood sales space. Eighty percent of the condominium units were sold within just 15 days of the pre-launch. Ana Maria Pessoa, who lives in Muro Alto (Ipojuca), was the first to buy an apartment at Verano during the launch party. “I found the structure of the condominium, size of the apartment and the location all excellent for investment,” she said. For Ana Rossini and her husband Marcílio, who acquired a residential unit and a room in the development’s multi-use center, it is a solid business deal due to the quality and excellence of the project, privileged location, beauty offered by the surrounding nature, the credibility of Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias and the payment conditions. “Paiva Reserve is currently the best site for investment,” said Rossini. “The value of the m² compared to the North of Recife is basically the same, given that the cost-benefit here is better,” she said.

n December 18, the Rio Santa

Consortium – formed by Odebrecht Infrastructure – Latin America (74%) and the Peruvian company Graña y Montero (26%) – won the bid to build the third phase of the Chavimochic Irrigation project in Peru. The concession guarantees the consortium a 25-year contract, including five years for the construction and 20 for the operation and maintenance work. Set to begin its activities at the end of 2014, the phase covers the construction of 63,000 hectares of hydraulic infrastructure, as well as improvements to the irrigation systems along another 47,000 hectares in the provinces of Chao, Virú, Moche and Chicama. The new structure will also help leverage the production existing along more than 40,000 hectares, making Chavimochic the largest irrigation project to be completed in Peruvian history. “It fills us with pride to have earned this contract,” said Gibran Loor, Contract Director of the Rio Santa Consortium. “The third phase represents a major challenge and it is pleasing for us to be able to continue with this important project right when Odebrecht is about to complete its 35-year anniversary in the country,” said Loor.

46

OLD ACQUAINTANCES In 1988, Odebrecht began the Chavimochic Irrigation project and built 277 km of channels and a hydroelectric power plant facility with 7.5 MW of power as part of a two-phase project. It also supplied equipment and machinery for the installation of agroindustrial complexes. It is currently also responsible for the operation, maintenance and offer of the water supply service for the structures built during these first two phases. Peru is part of the Organization’s history. The start of Odebrecht’s international operations in 1979 happened in the country with the construction work for the Charcani V. Hydroelectric Power Plant. In the same sense, Gibran Loor believes that Chavimochic is an emblematic development for the Organization. “With the completion of this third phase, the project is reaching its full production capacity, multiplying the economic and social benefits for the region, while also helping to increase exports from the country by US$ 1.2 million per year and generate some 150,000 job opportunities,” he said.

debrecht TransPort concluded the negotiations it began 18 months ago and promoted a corporate restructuring process to allow for the entry of a new partner BNDES Participações S.A. (BNDESPAR), a full subsidiary of Brazil’s National Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES). With a R$ 1 billion investment, the institution focused on promoting development came to hold 10.61% stake in the company. This represents an important step as well in terms of moving forward with Odebrecht TransPort’s plans to announce its Initial Public Offer (IPO) in the future. The negotiations started back in 2012, when BNDES began to examine the Odebrecht TransPort business plan, initially studying the company’s strategic vision for the Rapid Transit area – particularly the recovery program for SuperVia – the Rio de

48

Janeiro railroad transport system. At the same time, the Brazilian Federal Government was launching the Logistics Investment Program (PIL), focused on resolving infrastructure bottlenecks in the country in the areas of highways, ports, airports and railroads. To demonstrate its trust in the Odebrecht TransPort developments, the Unemployment Guarantee Investment Fund (FI-FGTS) – until then the sole partner – followed the increase in the company’s capital and maintained its stake at 30%. To ensure its position, it made an investment R$ 428.5 million. After that, the Odebrecht TransPort shareholder ownership changed as follows: Odebrecht S.A., 59.39%; FI-FGTS, 30% and BNDESPAR, 10.61%.

an integrated logistics project for the exports of sugar produced in Brazil’s Northeast region. The initiative still requires the approval of the country’s Special Port Department (SEP) and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE). The companies will form a Specific Purpose Company (SPC) for the construction and 25year operation of a sugar terminal at Suape Port in Pernambuco. Odebrecht TransPort will hold 75% of the SPE stake and Agrovia will hold 25%. The companies will establish a lease agreement for the Suape Dock 5 – which has a total area of 72,500 m² and a berth extending 355 meters – and they plan to invest in systems for highway receipt, bulk refined sugar storage, bagging and the lifting of the sugar to the bulk carriers. The project represents an innovative operation in Brazil. The SPC will invest in the construction of silos inside the production

units for refined sugar (type 45) and bulk highway transport in the specialized vehicles until the terminal. The model will guarantee improved quality control, making the sugar more competitive, primarily in the demanding European market. Another differential can be found in the material shipment process at the port, which at the new terminal can take place in ships with the capacity for up to 35,000 tons – much bigger than the current capacity of 10,000 tons. The gains in time and productivity will be reflected in the improved logistics costs for exports of sugar produced in the region. It is estimated that the Suape Port sugar terminal will begin operating in September 2015. This is the 19th Odebrecht TransPort asset, which has another three companies in the Logistics area, eight in the Highway area, six in Rapid Transit and the Galeão Airport concession in Rio de Janeiro.

Júnia Ferreira Furtado, a professor from the Federal University of Minas Gerais, talks about the production process for her historical research

O

n the evening of December 18, the Salvador Arts Palace in Bahia served as stage for the launch of the book O Mapa que Inventou o Brasil (“The Map that Invented Brazil”) by Head Professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Júnia Ferreira Furtado. The publication is the result of the winning project from the 8th edition of the Odebrecht Historical Research Award - Clarival do Prado Valladares in 2011. “It is such a thrill to win this award, which is the only one in Brazil focused on the area of History, allowing us to complete our research work,” said Furtado. The art book investigates the intellectual partnership between the diplomatic representative of Portugal in France, Dom Luís da Cunha, and the French geographer Jean-Baptiste Bourguignon D’Anville in order to produce the Carte de l’Amérique méridionale, the map that backed the geopolitical project advocated by Portugal for its possessions in America. The elaboration of this document began back in 1720 and continued over a period of three decades. Although it was not taken to the negotiating table during the Madrid Treaty (for political reasons, the Portuguese decided at the last minute to present another map, Mapa das Cortes), in 1750, the document “invents” Brazil, or in other words, it gives the country traits that are very similar to those of the current Brazilian territory. “The research began 10 years ago with a brief letter from 1720, which describes the travels by brothers Nunes de Salvador and Vila Rica in Minas Gerais. In addition to the letter, I discovered documents from 1740 about Brazilian cartography,” explained Furtado.

51

With access to the documents, she analyzed hundreds of maps, manuscripts and travel logs to elaborate the book. Versal Editores was responsible for the editorial coordination and Karyn Mathuiy for the graphic design and layout work.

A DECADE OF ART AND CULTURE Created in 2003, The Odebrecht Historical Research Award - Clarival do Prado Valladares finances research projects focused on Brazilian history. Over the award’s 10-year history, some 1,500 works have been entered and nine books published – with four of these winning the Jabuti Award – an important recognition of Literature in the country (three in the Graphic Design category and one in the Architecture and City Planning category). The winner of the first edition was the professor of the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), Consuelo Novais Sampaio. The book 50 Anos de Urbanização - Salvador da Bahia no Século XIX (“50 Years of City Planning – Salvador, Bahia During the 19th Century”) was launched in 2004 and addresses the transformations that occurred in the Bahia capital with the emergence of the first public transport, water, sewage and lighting services. Starting with the third edition, Odebrecht decided to take the award all over Brazil – considering that in the beginning it was focused only on projects associated with the history of Bahia. “For the fifth edition, we had more than 300 projects signed up,” recalled Márcio Polidoro, responsible for Communication at Odebrecht Infrastructure – Latin America and Chair of the

52

Organization’s Cultural Committee. “It is the most important award that the Brazilian researcher can receive,” pointed out Dom Gregório Paixão, Bishop of Petrópolis and PhD in Anthropology from the Free University of Amsterdam and winner of the 7th edition. The book Mosteiro de São Bento da Bahia (“Bahia’s Saint Benedict Monastery”) was launched in 2011. The 10th edition, held in 2013, chose two winners: Um Sertão Entre Tantos Outros (“One Scrubland Among Many Others”) by Nathalia Diniz, and O Conhecimento Científico do Mundo Português do Século XVIII (“The Scientific Knowledge of the Portuguese World of the 18th Century”) by Magnus Roberto de Mello Pereira and Ana Lúcia Rocha Barbalho da Cruz. “The 10year result of the award fills us with pride.

What we did will be available forever and there are still several new studies taking place throughout Brazil.”

CLARIVAL DO PRADO VALLADARES Researcher, art critic and professor at the Fine Arts School of the Federal University of Bahia, physician Clarival do Prado Valladares (1918-1983), who earned a graduate degree in Pathology from Harvard University, combined scientific methodology with sensibility for a sociological approach to the artistic object. His important legacy for understanding Brazilian artistic and architectural heritage can be found in works such as Arte e Sociedade nos

Cemitérios Brasileiros (“Art and Society in the Brazilian Cemeteries”), Nordeste Histórico e Monumental (“The Historical and Monumental Northeast”) Aspectos da Arte Religiosa no Brasil (“Aspects of Religious Art in Brazil”) Rio Barroco - Rio Neoclássico (“Baroque Rio – Neoclassic Rio”) and The Impact of African Culture on Brazil. A mentor of the Odebrecht Cultural Educations, which he ran for several years and which gathers more than 200 works on different topics considered relevant for national culture and other countries where Odebrecht is present, Clarival do Prado Valladares served as the inspiration for the Odebrecht Historical Research Award.

T

he work of Bahia native Mário Cravo became part of the landscape in the neighborhood of Barra in Salvador. In order

to celebrate the artist’s 90th birthday, the exhibit launched on December 15 is open to the public until Carnival, which will take place in March of this year. The exhibit enhances the beauty of one of Bahia’s most important postcard views - the Barra Lighthouse. Organized by Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil – responsible for the Coastal Urban Park Requalification project - Barra stretch – in partnership with Shopping Barra, the ACM Institute and Bahia Network, the initiative is a tribute to the artist and also a way of taking culture and leisure to the streets. “The construction project planning work includes educational, cultural and social activities,” explained Henrique Paixão, Contract Director. “In this sense, we decided to pay tribute to this great Brazilian artist,” said Paixão. The exhibit consists of 20 totems made from reforestation wood with 40 images of the projects created by Mario Cravo during his 70-year career. The artist defends the

idea that outdoor art receives the perfect amount of lighting and can also be accessed by people of all social classes. “I am perhaps the first sculptor to insist on holding an outdoor exhibit,” he said. The visit is also an opportunity for visitors to get a more in-depth look at the universe of the Candomble religion, syncretism and the magic of historical Bahia. “It makes me proud to see the transformation of this neighborhood, which is so important to us, take place not only on concrete, but primarily in terms of culture so that it indeed can become a legacy for the city,” said the Salvador Secretary of Development, Tourism and Culture, Guilherme Bellintani.

ART AS FOCUS Mario Cravo is a sculptor, engraver, sketch artist and professor. He was a student of the Yugoslavian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic at New York’s Syracuse University. Upon his return to Salvador in 1949, he set up his atelier in the neighborhood of Barra, a site that soon became a meeting point for artists such as Carlos Bastos, Genaro and Carybé. In 1994, he donated several of his works to the State

of Bahia, which became part of the Cravo Space archive located in the Pituaçu Metropolitan Park. His work uses a range of different artistic traditions, including those regional ones with which he came into contact during the trips he took throughout Brazil’s Northeast rural region. Mário Cravo seeks out pure, simple forms and shapes related to the organic world. In addition to drawing and painting, the artist also created sculptures using wood, stones and metals as his main materials. During the 1960s, for example, the use of iron and a focus on themes inspired by Afro-Brazilian myths became more intense in its works.

Youth and their interaction with their families is the driving force behind PDCIS, winner of the CFI Awards Programme

Odebrecht Foundation Recognized Capital Finance International (CFI) recognized the Odebrecht Foundation with the CFI Awards Programme, which identifies people and organizations that have adopted best practices around the world that can be replicated. The recipients of the award are nominated by readers, subscribers, employees and those visiting the CFI website, and the winners are chosen by a judges’ committee. According to the institution’s website, the goal is to discover good ideas and demonstrate that it is possible to learn from one another. The Odebrecht Foundation promotes social inclusion actions in the Bahia Southern Lowlands through the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS). The challenge is to turn a rural area with important environmental assets

into a prosperous and dynamic region, placing talented youth in the field. The actions focus on the youth and their interaction with their families, aiming to transform the reality of the rural zone. The activities are made possible through the contributions of different partners from the public and private areas. For Mauricio Medeiros, Executive Chair of the Odebrecht, Foundation, the main differential of PDCIS is its innovative Participative Governance system, which creates a synergistic and collaborative space for coming up with different social initiatives, generating benefits for all those involved. “Governments, Organized Society and Private Initiative work together, focused on a single goal: the structuring of a rural middle class, on which takes control of its own destiny,” emphasized Medeiros.

Renewed Partnership for Believe Program Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil and the Brazilian Federal Government have renewed their Cooperation Agreement focused on the implementation of professional qualification and actions designed to help insert individuals into the job market through the Continued Professional Qualification Program - Believe. Through the renewal of the agreement, the company is prioritizing the partnership with the National Program for Access to Technical Instruction and Employment (PRONATEC) – which offers public funding to institutions to help them expand their professional and technological training – and the contracting of the professionals trained through the program. André Vital, Senior Office of Odebrecht for Bahia and Sergipe, who represented Benedicto Júnior, Entrepreneurial Leader of the Business; and the Minister of Social Development and Hunger Alleviation, Tereza Campello, gathered in Salvador at one of the PRONATEC graduation ceremonies to sign the agreement as well. Based on this new model, a Believe/ PRONATEC pilot project is underway at the Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant – currently being built by Odebrecht Infrastructure – Brazil in Paraná. The courses are being given by the National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI) in spaces set up by the company. First held in August 2013, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP Believe program has already trained 190 professionals from the region

of Capanema in the courses of carpenter, bricklayer, welder, assembler and vibrator operator. Vagner José Maciel dos Santos, age 25 and resident of Capanema, viewed the program as an opportunity to become a welder. “I always thought the profession was unique, but I never had the opportunity to take the course,” said Santos. “When I found out the company would offer it, I signed up right away.” In addition to PRONATEC, Believe also holds a partnership with the Capanema Municipal Government.  The first version of the Cooperation Agreement for Believe was signed in 2008. The renewed version includes a partnership with PRONATEC. The new model currently being studied at the Baixo Iguaçu HPP has 163 students and represents an investment of approximately R$ 400,000 from the Brazilian Federal Government

One of the country’s most modern flour factories will be installed at the head office of the Presidente Tancredo Neves Rural Producers’ Cooperative (COOPATAN) in the Bahia Southern Lowlands. The investment for the construction resulted from a Technical and Financial Cooperation Agreement established between the Brazilian Economic and Social Development Bank (BNDES) and the Odebrecht Foundation. First signed in 2009 and with a six-year term, the agreement covers investments in social, production, environmental and training actions for the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners. COOPATAN is one of the institutions

70

associated with PDCIS and seeks to guarantee income and quality of life for its associates, while also offering high quality products to its social partners and clients. The cooperative is focused on cultivating manioc and fruits, and in 2012, it inaugurated its Fruit Pre-Processing Unit. “Our work is essential for strengthening the chain of these products in the region,” emphasized Juscelino Macedo, Manioc and Fruit Cultivation Business Coordinator. The new flour factory will help promote integrated and sustainable development, strengthening productivity and increasing the members’ monthly income. According to Macedo, it is estimated that the construction work will be completed in one year. “In addition to increasing the average monthly income for cooperative members by R$ 640.00, we will have a significant increase in the number of COOPATAN associates,” said Macedo.

“We believe that in four years, the factory will allow for the addition of more than 100 new cooperative members.” The production will meet the requirements for the certification of the cooperative’s own brands, as well as of those of the main supermarket chains that are partners of PDCIS and which sell its products at their stores. BNDES’ support also made it possible to build the head office of the Build

Better Professional Training Center, in Valença, and acquire machines, agricultural accessories and vehicles for the Bahia Southern Lowlands Heart of Palm Producers’ Cooperative (COOPALM). Additionally, resources were granted for the remodeling and expansion of the Igrapiúna (CFR-I) and Agroforest (Cfaf) Rural Family Homes – teaching units that offer training geared toward the region’s rural reality.

COOPATAN cooperative members will be benefitted from the installation of the new manioc flour factory. A total of R$ 5.7 million have been invested to build the development
