Biocom Soon to Relaunch Sugar Industry in Angola. The Odebrecht Infrastructure - Africa, Arab Emirates and Portugal company (40%), in partnership with Damer (40%) and Sonangol (20%) – the company responsible for cultivating sugarcane for the production of ethanol fuel, electricity and refined sugar –, will harvest the first 5,000

hectares (ha) of sugarcane planted in the Capanda Agroindustrial Center (PAC) in July of this year. Angola currently imports all the refined sugar it consumes. When the plantation of the raw material reaches a total of 34,000 ha in 2018, the Biocom factory will have the capacity to produce enough to supply 60% of the national market. “The current import volume is approximately

300,000 tons per year,” explained Carlos Mathias, Biocom’s Director. “Our priority is to supply this demand and serve the Angolan people,” said Mathias. The projects extend even farther than that. After serving the domestic market, the company hopes to turn the company into a refined sugar exporter. “For 2019, we plan to begin the factory expansion work to increase
the production from 252,000 tons (t) of sugar to 500,000 t,” said Mathias. “Accordingly, starting in 2022, the unit will have enough capacity to meet the country’s demand and begin exporting the product,” he said.
From the Stalk to the Bagasse Starting in 2019, besides sugar, Biocom will be producing 23,000
5
m³ of ethanol per year. The volume will be sent for mixture with the gasoline supplied by Sonangol, which will sell the product as fuel. With the burning of the sugarcane bagasse, the company will also produce electricity. A total of 171 GWh per year. The production will meet the internal needs of the farm and sugar factory and will generate a surplus
6
that will be sent to the Angola National Electricity Company (ENE). These figures will reach 40,000 m³ of ethanol and 342 GWh of electric energy in 2022 after the expansion of the unit.

Chaglla Begins to Take Shape The start of production and sale of electrical energy at the Chaglla Hydroelectric Power Plant is estimated for July 2016
In December 2013, the Chaglla Hydroelectric Power Plant project – currently being completed in Peru by Odebrecht Infrastructure - Latin America – completed yet another phase. Workers finished the assembly of theSpiral Casing 1 (part of the turbine) and began the electro-mechanical assembly of the plant’s first Generator Unit. The strategy of building the part in the site where it was installed allowed the project to leap 90 days ahead of schedule and guarantee the delivery deadline construction established.
The plant will consist of two generator units and will have an installed power of 456 Megawatts, with 2.8 Gigawatts/hour per year. These figures earn it a place as Peru’s third largest hydroelectric power plant in terms of electricity generation. The project includes the construction of the main Generator Center; the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP) – with 6 MW of power – in the lower part of the plant’s dam and the 220-Kilowatt transmission line that extends until Peru’s National Interconnected System (SEIN).

Corinthians Arena: Moving Forward at an Accelerated Pace View to the West sector, where the chairs from the grandstand began to be installed
On January 19, Corinthians Arena – currently being built by Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil in the city of São Paulo – received a visit by the General Secretary of FIFA, Jérôme Valcke, who stated that he was “satisfied” with the stadium construction work. Valcke was accompanied by Brazil’s Minister of Sports, Aldo Rebelo; the Vice Mayor of São Paulo, Nádia Campeão; São Paulo State Secretary of Planning and Development, Julio Semeghini; former president of Corinthians and representative of the club at the project, Andrés Sanchez, Senior Officer of Odebrecht Infrastructure Brazil for São Paulo and the Southern region of the country, Luiz Bueno, and Contract Director, Antonio Gavioli. The General Secretary of FIFA emphasized the importance of the test events for

guaranteeing the arena’s operation during the World Cup in items such as security and organization. “The idea is to hold events with different capacity levels,” he explained. Andrés Sanchez revealed that “the stadium is now 97% complete and the inauguration will take place on April 15,” said Sanchez. The main front of the building – which consists of 1,080 glass panels distributed across 6,900 square meters and is 220 meters wide by 24 meters high – has been finalized. In the West, South and North buildings, the finish and installation work continues for the grandstand seats – with some 29,000 chairs already in place. In the East sector, workers removed the crane involved with an accident that occurred in November 2013 and the team is now preparing to remove the metal module of the roof from the site.

The basic rate for Rota do Atlântico is R$ 5.60 for the stretch that connects Recife to Suape Port and Pernambuco’s Southern Coast beaches
Improvements on the Road On January 4, the Rota do Atlântico Concessionaire, an Odebrecht TransPort asset, began operating the toll plaza at the Suape Road Complex in Pernambuco. Drivers are charged at one of the five toll plazas installed only to enter Suape. The initiative covers different services and improvements along the highway. This includes the Operational Control Center (OCC), with monitoring via cameras, as well as the User Assistance Service (UAS), which is available 24 hours per day, and offers a tow truck service for both lightweight and heavy vehicles, a rescue ambulance, traffic inspection patrols, a water truck to fight fires and clean the roads, as well as a vehicle to remove stray animals. “The start to the toll plaza operation went smoothly,” said Elias Lages, President of Rota do Atlântico. “Small lines formed at the toll plazas,
since the service time increases until users become adapted to the system,” said Lages. The Rota do Atlântico road complex will extend a total of 43 kilometers and begins at the BR101 Highway in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, then continues until the PE-038 Highway in Ipojuca. A 30-kilometer stretch is currently operating from the BR-101 South Highway to the VPE-052 Highway, with new viaducts and traffic circles, duplicated lanes, signs and improved paving. Rota do Atlântico will reduce the trip to Pernambuco’s Southern Coast beaches by 8.4 kilometers, which represents a 30% cut in the distance traveled and saves approximately 20 minutes. Rota dos Atlântico User Assistance Service (UAS): 0800-031-0009.

Increasing energy Knowledge Santo Antônio Energia took part in the 20th Brazilian Water Resources Symposium, held in December 2013 by the Brazilian Water Resource Association in the city of Bento Gonçalves in Rio Grande do Sul. The concessionaire presented two works to professionals from Brazil and other countries around the world. In “Mathematical Modeling of Water Quality in the Region of the Hydroelectric Power Plant Reservoir and Downstream (section between the observer and the mouth of a watercourse ),” it was possible to manage the expected impacts on water quality during the filling of the reservoir, optimize the suppression of the plant coverage and reduce the result analysis time. There was no environmental incident related to the ichthyofauna (species of fish that inhabit a specific region). Professionals from Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil and Hicon Engenharia participated in the research work. The project “Comparison between Predicted Results and Those Observed in the Field” analyzed the prognosis for the modeling and what was actually observed in the field during the filling of the reservoir by monitoring the water quality, considering especially the dissolved oxygen. This work, developed by the same authors as the first, also received the support of the entity Ecology Brasil. “We offer the scientific community the data we produced, allowing for the replication of this knowledge at other developments,” said biologist Carolina Mariani, responsible for the two projects at the Santo Antônio HPP in Rondônia.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an international system developed by the Green Building Council to measure the environmental performance of buildings, from the initial plans for their design to their maintenance. The idea is to reduce carbon emissions and promote the construction of efficient structures within the social, environmental and economic spheres. With the participation of 143 countries, the LEED created a global standard for sustainable buildings. The levels of certification (Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum) are based on a points system determined by the total number of credits granted to the building after evaluating seven different dimensions: Sustainable Space, Efficiency of the Water,, Energy and Atmosphere Use, Materials and Resources, Quality of the Internal Environment, Innovation and Processes and Regional Priority Credits.

After the calculation, the user of the tool pays the corresponding amount to plant and monitor these seedlings. The differential of this project is that, in order to neutralize the emissions, the Pratigi Neutral Carbon project restores water sources located in the Pratigi Environmental Protection Area (EPA) located in the Bahia Southern Lowlands, and the farmer that owns the reforested area receives payment for the environmental service offered, thereby promoting environmental preservation and boosting the local economy.

A
n old dream of the rural families who live in the Bahia Southern Lowlands is finally coming true. The partnership formed between the Odebrecht Foundation and teaching institutions that offer a professional education is prompting young people to stay involved with family farming and has earned significant importance in the state’s educational scenario. Through the Rural Family Homes, it is possible to have access to technical professional teaching integrated with high school. Recognizing the importance of the initiative, the Bahia State Secretary of Education established an agreement that will direct approximately R$ 415,000 for the technical-financial support, maintenance, funding and development of educational actions at the teaching units during 2014. “This ensures that the rural youth have the conditions to study and become qualified in their native towns,” said Joana Almeida, Educational Advisor of

the Odebrecht Foundation. The benefitted entities are the Presidente Tancredo Neves Rural Family Home (CFR-PTN), the Agroforest Family Home (Cfaf) from Nilo Peçanha and the Igrapiúna Rural Family Home (CFR-I). The institutions are associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), an initiative supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners, and are accredited by the Bahia State Board of Education, which guarantees the students a school diploma and certifies their qualification in different areas of agriculture. “The agreement is at the heart of the work begun back in 2009 when we obtained the certification from the State Board,” explained Adelcio Menezes, responsible for the CFRPTN projects and agreements. “The formalization with the Department of Education is extremely important
and will serve as the door of entry for making other resources available for rural education,” said Menezes. The Family Homes benefit more than 250 youth, training them to become rural entrepreneurs. For this purpose, they adopt TradeOff Teaching, a method that builds the relationship between the student and teaching institution to transfer technical knowledge,
as well as between the family and community during the process of practical learning. Joana Almeida believes that the agreement with the Bahia Department of Education is just one of many partnerships that can benefit the residents of the rural zone. “The responsibilities are greater and the consequences are even more satisfactory results.”

administrator, António Pilale, as well as representatives from the main local youth and social development associations in Nacala. “This is a very important moment, ” said Pilale. “We know that the city’ s economic and industrial development should go hand-in-hand with the population’ s academic growth, ” he said. The library will be inaugurated by the government in February. “Odebrecht took the first step for us to have a well-equipped library, one that will help cultivate the love for reading, research and knowledge,” added Pilale.
New Life During 2013, Odebrecht found a new destination for approximately 500 kilos uniforms used by Members during projects completed in Argentina. With this material, it was able to promote actions focused on environmental preservation and the social inclusion of women. Through the alliance with the Mediapila Foundation – the NGO that administers the textile training centers that help low income women become professional seamstresses – Odebrecht delivered the clothing to 17 women. In these women’s hands, the material earned new life and
was transformed into bags, wallets and backpacks. The objects were acquired by the company. “It was an excellent experience,” said Sebastián Sarasola, Executive Chair of the Mediapila Foundation. “Odebrecht was concerned with ensuring the best use of its materials and generating work through these. Besides this, the initiative served to encourage those women who had recently joined the institution, giving them a source of achievement and prompting them to learn,” said Sarasola .
