It is Their Turn: Women at the Operations
W
omen’s presence has been growing at the 14 different Businesses that make up the Organization. Often times, it is they who help create harmony in the work environment by combining professionalism with their natural characteristics as women. There are 24,871 female Members working in 26 countries in which Odebrecht operates in either operational or leadership functions. This figure represents 13.7% of all those who work at the companies and in the support areas. The lower number of women is due to the extensive male presence in engineering and construction Businesses – these companies account for 69% of all Members. In the other Businesses, the percentage of women is higher: at Odebrecht Environmental, it is 5%, at Braskem, it is 6%, at Odebrecht TransPort, it represents 7% and at Odebrecht Agroindustrial, it is 11%. In celebration of International Women’s Day and to honor those women who make a difference in the daily professional routine, Odebrecht News gives you a glimpse of the female professionals who work at the Organization. For 11 months now, the Odebrecht Agroindustrial sugarcane plantations have been frequented by a work front consisting exclusively of women. The group is part of the team of agricultural Members at the Rio Claro unit, located in the municipality of Caçu at the Goiás Center. There are some 60 Members in the three work shifts that can be identified by the pink shirt they themselves designed and which they wear underneath their uniform that reads “Women’s capacity surpasses men’s strength.” With ages ranging from 28-40, these women are recognized

Isabella Marquez, an Agricultural Supervisor and responsible for the women’s work front during the 2013/2104 harvest, said she sees advantages in a group formed by women. “Many of us share the same reality, such as holding a job and also having to care for our children and the home, which creates a feeling of solidarity and mutual

In the sugar-energy sector, and especially at the nine Odebrecht Agroindustrial units, this is a growing phenomenon. For Ricardo Oliveira de Paula, Agricultural Manager at the Goiás Center, the efforts and results achieved by women in the activities are surprising. “They are able to bring a lightweightness to the work fronts without negatively affecting production,”

ENVIRON
Odebrecht Environmental invests in feminine differentials. Proof of this can be found in the positions some of them have filled along the Line: Paula Violante is the Concession Director at Rio Claro and Santa Gertrudes, located in rural São Paulo; Rosemeire Pagni is Concession Director of the Mairinque Unit, also located in São Paulo; and Alaíde Barbosa is Concession Director of the Jaguaribe Unit in Bahia. For Paula Violante, the experience of working in a male-dominated environment has been a reality since she earned her degree in Chemical Engineering. “I have always been respected during professional career,” said Violante. “A Member of the Organization for the past 19 years, she revealed that the interaction between men and women is something productive: “Regardless of gender, what is important are the relationships we build, the results we achieve and the learning that we bring for ourselves and the entire team,” she said. She added: “Men are objective and focused. We women, we complete the team, since we have the tendency to be more detail-
6
oriented, thorough, multi-disciplinary and empathetic.” Alaíde Barbosa said she believes that the woman’s presence demands a constant posture and positioning. “We have to demonstrate our capacity for leadership. Leading is something natural to us, it is something we learn at home with the real leaders of the family,” she explained. For Rosemeire, the challenge also lies outside the operation itself: “The most difficult thing is taking care of the other tasks that society expects of women, such as caring for children and the home,” she said. “Thankfully, us women are already born “multi-tasking” and with the skill to manage several projects at once,” she says, humorously. The Mairinque Unit Concession Director believes that the mindset in which women were viewed as having weak skills is a becoming a thing of the past: “It will be a matter of years before women are considered equal to men in absolute numbers,” she said. “However, the Organization is already take steps toward this not so far off future.”

Their testimonials represent the strength and achievements of women in the workplace and also in their families and society. Angélica dos Santos, which balances her work at Braskem with her studies toward her Chemical Engineering degree, is the only female member working at the PE 8 CUB unit. She believes that she is an example that proves how women are entering new areas of operation, such as the industrial area. “Braskem has contributed toward
working at Braskem, it is the female force that allows her to be a wife, mother and professional all at the same time. She further emphasized the opportunities that women currently have to make their own decisions. “We are no longer restricted to the home,” said Farias. “We continue with our personal lives, balancing out work shifts and children.” In Mexico, Yarelly believes that women currently have more independence to work in different business areas. “We have demonstrated the capacity to develop our professional growth, together with our personal growth,” she said.

ENSEADA INDÚ
With an increasingly greater presence at the shipyards, women are earning their own space and finding opportunities in positions occupied predominantly by men. This is the case of Adriana Andrade, who has worked as a welder for approximately five years. Since 2012 , she has been one of the 268 women that form part of the team working on the project Conversion of VLCC Hulls into FPSOs at the
10
Inhaúma Unit of the Enseada Indústria Naval , located in Caju, Rio de Janeiro. Because they have a more detail-oriented profile, are more organized and work well in a team, certain areas such as welding have become fields in which female professionals have successfully stood out. “Women generally have a greater concern with the finish, for example, those that end up standing out in such a detailed activity as welding,” said Andrade.

ARGENTINA Romina Bustos has worked on civil construction projects for the past four years and is currently dedicated to the Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial North Gas Pipeline project in Argentina. She revealed that adapting to the predominantly male environment became easier because she worked with Members and leaders adept to work environments also made up of women. “Not losing the female essence and subtleties are both fundamental
for giving their work more value,” said Bustos. For Milena Amengual, who worked on the Continuous Catalytic Reformer - CCR project (finalized) for approximately two years, the most important aspect is women’s passion for the profession. “The dynamics of the construction work are something intense and demand effort,” said Amengual. “Being passionate about what they do is greatest secret shared by women who work on the major projects.”

MÉXICO In Mexico, the Talent XXI program, promoted by the Ethylene XXI project, trains residents from the communities located near the projects in the areas of blacksmith, carpenter and bricklayer and offers students the opportunity to join the project. Of those already trained through the program, 107 began working at Ethylene XXI and 25 are women. One of these professionals is María Gómez Medina, from the neighborhood of Ejído 5 de Mayo in the community of Nanchital. “Through the program, I was able to receive training as a Carpenter’s Assistant and I began to work at Ethylene XXI,” said Medina. “I am very grateful to Odebrecht for the training received, which brought me a whole new life.” Due to the solid results generated by the program, in 2014 Talent XXI will become a part of the Believe, a professional training program promoted at different Organization Businesses.

DEFENSE AND Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN), an Odebrecht Defesa e Tecnologia company responsible for the Submarine Development Program (PROSUB) in Rio de Janeiro, has three women working in its Welding area. It is these women who add that feminine touch to the team consisting of 62 welders. Patrícia Leme is one of them. She works two shifts a day one as a professional at ICN and another as the mother of Letícia, age 15. She works at the company in the area of submarine cavern welding (structural rings of the vessel). She chose the profession while searching for jobs, when she found out that the welding area was becoming more popular among women. She became interested and completed a threemonth course at Brazil’s National Industrial Learning Service (SENAI). In 2014, Leme completes five years of work in the welding area, with experience at five
14
major projects, including ICN. When questioned what it is like to work in such a predominantly male environment, the welder responds that it is “super laidback” and that she identifies with the area. “I maintain a relationship of respect with the welders,” she said. “We exchange knowledge during the day.” In September 2013, ICN sent its female welders to France to take part in specific qualification courses involving the installations and processes of DCNS – an Odebrecht partner company and holder of the submarine construction technology. The idea was to train them for three months so that they can multiply knowledge with the other ICN Members. The qualification involved a specific type of welding: orbital welding. The methodology allows workers to make adjustments, calibrate machinery and validate the programs run on the
TECHNOLOGY equipment. Leme took part in the qualification in France and said what she brought home was extremely important. During the training, she learned new welding techniques and returned to Brazil even more confident to work at
ICN. “The Members of DCNS were available to assist us and answer our questions at all times,” she said. “Besides this, I learned about the parts and processes that we will use to build the submarines in Brazil.”
Patrícia Leme’s day begins with the preparation of the machine, verification of the welding process components and authorization for the start of service

INFRASTRUCTURE - AFRICA, AR
ANGOLA A good portion of the female Members at Odebrecht Infrastructure - Africa, Arab Emirates and Portugal in Angola have job positions related to civil construction, such as carpenters, welders, blacksmiths and bricklayers. For Roberval Fonseca, responsible for Equipment at the Cambambe Hydroelectric Power Plant Facility, it is necessary to break the paradigm that certain jobs are exclusively for men. “Women have shown determination and willpower and the challenges make them more dedicated,” said Fonseca. Smiling and joyful, which are noted characteristics of Angolan women, they receive support from their families and are becoming a source of pride in the household. Amélia Fernandes Mateus said she feels accomplished to work on the Biocom project. “She pays for her own university studies in the area of Psychology and supports her three

siblings . “I want to develop my skills to become a Mechanized Harvester Supervisor at Biocom,” she said. Elisa Correia Calunga, Member of the Industrial Shop - Equipment at the Cambambe Hydroelectric Power Plant Facility, was the first woman to work on the project’s welding team. For her, the dedication of the leader and support of the Members were both crucial for her development. For three years, Antónia Da Costa Santos has served as Medium-Level Technician in Human Resources at the Luanda Expressway project. “Before, it was very difficult for us to work at a construction project,” she explained. “Today, we see many women occupying different engineering professions.” In 2011, she received a medal for her 25 years of work at Odebrecht, where she represented as the woman who has been working the longest in the Organization at the project.

INFRASTRUCTURE - AFRICA, ARAB EMIRATES AND PORTUGAL MOZAMBIQUE In Mozambique, Vanina Loforte Miquidade, Civil Engineer at the Moatize Expansion Project, revealed that her integration into male-dominated environments began back in college. When she was a student, she witnessed a women’s pro-engineering movement designed to encourage women to complete their studies in the area of Engineering, primarily Civil Construction. “The complexities inherent to these activities always generate doubts and uncertainties about women’s capacity to
perform these functions, even when they have the same skills as men, and with responsibility, passion and competency that is either equal or greater,” she said. Miquidade further emphasized that she feels honored to serve as an exemplary female in the work environment and promote social equality between genders. “I want to encourage those women who are still hesitant about exercising their activities in a predominantly male environment,” she said.

COLÔMBIA Tilcia Ochoa is a Paving Assistant at the Construtor Ruta del Sol Consortium (CONSOL) - North Stretch. For her, there are many benefits and advantages of being a woman and serving in job positions in the area of civil construction. “My family is proud of me,” she said. “Since 2011, when I began working at the consortium, I learned things I could have never imagined. This became a challenge, and today I am seeing the results.” Adriana Quintero leads a 37-Member team at CONSOL - North Stretch, where 90%
of all workers are men. “It seemed impossible for a woman to coordinate a predominantly male team,” she recalled. “This is my reality and I am thankful to my leaders for believing in me and in my capacity.” Cláudia Patricia Escobar is a forewoman at the CONSOL South stretch. “My challenge is to continue training and giving it my best to show everyone that with love, effort and courage, female hands can also help build Colombia’s most important road infrastructure project.”
For those Members with whom she works, Claudia Patricia Escobar is an example of leadership.

INFRASTRUCTURE ARGENTINA For the past five months, Carla Dapice has been part of the Nuevo Sarmiento Consortium (CNS), a project currently under the responsibility of Odebrecht Infrastructure - Latin America in Argentina.
For her, the companionship that exists between Members, both men and women, in her work environment, helps ensure that there is no prejudice. Her life goals include the desire to grow professionally and also build her family, learning to balance her professional life and her role as mother.
ECUADOR Flor González, Treasurer of the Trasvase Daule-Vinces Project, currently underway in Guayas, pointed out that the “feminine touch” is an important tool in the work environment, but that the male presence is also a positive one. “Men are more reserved in terms of how they express themselves and they help women develop virtues such as emotional control,” said González.
“Being a woman gives us the serenity required to resolve challenges and conflicts in the best possible way” - Maristela Carvalho, from the Manduriacu Hydroelectric Power Plant Project.

For Maristela Carvalho, who is responsible for Sustainability at the Manduriacu Hydroelectric Power Plant Project, difficulties exist and present women with the challenge of working professionally to overcome them. “When we do what we want, problems become lessons learned and help us grow,” she said.

RONDÔNIA Eliana Xavier Miranda Araújo, Telescopic Crane Operator at the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant ( H PP ), balances several different roles : being a mother, wife, daughter and professional. Born in Bacabau, Maranhão, the Member left her native city in search of new opportunities and with the dream of becoming a heavy equipment operator. At the Santo Antônio HPP, an Odebrecht Infraestructure Brazil project in Rondônia, she had the opportunity to learn to operate the Partek pump – a high pressure water jet designed to clean previously paved surfaces before they receive a new layer of concrete. She also worked as a Telescopic Crane operator (Telebelt) – equipment that weighs approximately 35 tons and has a 38 meters, used in the paving process. Having worked at the projects for some five years, the Member celebrates her achievements: “It was what I wanted,” she said. “Women are not only capable of running a home; they can also run a Telebelt.”

RIO DE JANEIRO Civil construction in Brazil is constantly evolving and one of the most visible changes is women’s presence. Skillful, capricious and detail-oriented, women have earned a place and have found in the construction segment a way to earn more money when compared to traditional female professions. Valdicéia Souza de Araujo worked as a manicurist in Itaguaí, Rio de Janeiro, when she learned about the Odebrecht Believe Program and had the opportunity to join PROSUB-EBN – the project that will build the naval shipyard and base required for the production of Brazil’s first nuclearpropelled submarine. The hands of Valdicéia add a careful touch to the project finish services. “For me, since I do manicures, hair and makeup, it is easy to pay attention to the details, ” she said. After one year and a half at the contract, she received the opportunity to lead an assembly team. “For a woman, having your work recognized at the construction project is an important step for development,” said Araújo. “Many think that we
are not capable or strong enough for this work, but I am proof that we are. ”

MATO GROSSO The world’s largest civil construction crane in operation is at the Teles Pires HPP, a plant under construction at the border between Mato Grosso and Pará, and it is operated by a woman, Dejane Lima Pardal. The equipment is 79 meters high and has the capacity to hoist up to 60 tons 32 meters off the ground. Pardal, mother of two, arrived to the project in June 2012 from Pará to accept the position of signaler. She said that when she saw the crane for the first time, she was fascinated by it set out to fulfill her dream of one day operating it. “When I saw the crane, still in the assembly phase, I decided that what I really wanted was to drive that steel giant,” she said. With the support of her leaders, she completed a crane and hoist course, and she has been operating the equipment for the past year, transporting cargo that totals some 100 tons each day. “Operating the crane is an indescribable sensation; it’s what I most love to do,” she said.

OIL AND GAS
In January, Odebrecht Oil and Gas welcomed its first female Rig Manager: Clarisse Rodrigues, age 33. Originally from Belo Horizonte (MG), she earned two degrees in Engineering (Civil and Oil), as well as a graduate degree and master’s degree. “In the beginning, my family was a bit shocked about my decision to work in the offshore industry,” she recalled. “Where I was born, most people end up working in the area of mining or metallurgy.” For her, the greatest challenge in the oil market is knowing how to deal with
people. “It means knowing what each person can do and influencing them to do their part well,” she said. “Humbleness is also important in order to learn every day and from there, improve constantly.” Rodrigues revealed that she feels flattered, but believes that the distinction between genders is more cultural than it is real. “When I see women in important positions for the first time, I know that it is a great achievement, but it would be the same for a man,” she said. “I believe in meritocracy, regardless of gender.”
Clarisse, to the left, began her career at Odebrecht Oil and Gas in 2008, as a Young Partner. She is currently a leader of the NORBE IX semisubmersible rig in Campos Basin

ARENAS Anyone who thinks that the world of soccer is essentially a male one is completely mistaken. With flexibility, sweetness and organization to resolve those more delicate issues, three female journalists face the challenge of leading the Communication area for the o arenas operated by Odebrecht Properties. At Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova since the reconstruction of the former stadium, Carine Aprile emphasized that the challenge of working in a predominantly male world is a big one, but it does not intimidate her. “It is exciting and brings new learning each day,” said Aprile. We have to deal – in the case of the press – with a specific group of radio show hosts and sports commentators who have a very specific language and way of working.” The motivation also comes from her pride to work at a tourism destination in the state where she was born. “To think that I am heading Bahia’s first multiuse equipment gives me butterflies in my stomach, since there is so much responsibility involved. But this is the sensation that drives me.” Mariana Scalzo leads the communication team at Maracanã stadium and has taken on the challenge
26
of caring for the soccer icon’s image in Brazil. “It is always a feat to work and be recognized in these spaces,” she said. “It may seem incredible, but often times, men are still surprised to see a woman in this environment.” For Scalzo, you cannot be careful enough when managing the passion and expectation of those who visit Maracanã: “We talk to our public all the time: fans, tourists or those who come to fulfill their dream of seeing Maracanã! They need to have precise information, the offer of services, entertainment, culture and there is no wrong or right thing for this,” she said. Julia Ferreira Kacowicz is the professional responsible for Communication at Itaipava Arena Pernambuco. Before assuming the job position at Odebrecht, she also wrote for a publisher from the area of Vehicles, so it was not the first time she worked in an environment considered to be male-dominated. For her, the arrival of the arenas brought changes in several different spheres: “There is an enormous amount of expectation, one that mirrors Brazilians’ passion for soccer,” said Kacowicz. “It has been a very positive challenge and great learning opportunity.”

PROPERTIES MINAS GERAIS Christini Kubo, Investment Director of Inova BH, in Minas Gerais, joined the Organization 11 years ago at Braskem. She served in different positions in the Financial area of the former Odebrecht Investimentos em Infraestrutura and Construtora Norberto Odebrecht, and at Odebrecht Oil and Gas Odebrecht TransPort. “One opportunity led to another, until I received an invitation to work on the Line at Odebrecht Properties.” For her, being a woman at Odebrecht means confirmation that the main talent recognized by the Organization is the capacity for entrepreneurship and efficiency when it comes to generating results. “In most work situations, I am the only woman among many Members, and most times, nobody even notices this, not even myself,” she said.
28
Christini Kubo pointed out that the company’s dynamic nature and its immense capacity to offer new challenges allowed her to grow as a professional, and primarily, as a person.
REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENTS BAHIA Janice do Rosário Silva is the Supervisor of Grouting and Cleaning at the construction project for Parque Tropical in Salvador. “My grouting team consists only of women, which guarantees that the work is done with caution,” she said. “The grouting must be done with care and attention, considering that it is one of the last phases before delivering the unit to the client.”
For her, working in a predominantly male environment does not interfere with her performance. “Some Members are bothered by the fact that the supervisor is a woman, but this does not negatively affect the work. We are making our way gradually and we have earned our own space.” She further revealed that she does not feel either “better or worse” for being a woman. “Odebrecht is a company that offers opportunities for everyone.”

REAL ESTATE DEVELOPMENTS FEDERAL DISTRICT Elizangela Alves da Natividade Soares worked as a housekeeper when in 2011, a friend told her about a job opportunity in Jardins Mangueiral, Brazil’s first Public Private Partnership in the area of housing, currently being built by Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias in the country’s Federal District. “When I started working in the area of civil construction, I had no idea what it was about, but I adapted to
the activities and now, I can’t imagine myself doing anything else,” said Soares. She says she believes there is no difference between women and men for the activities she develops. “The supervisors always recommend training courses in the civil construction area for me. I feel that they like working with me, since I am dedicated and detail-oriented. This is a woman’s thing,” she said.
TRANSPORT PERNAMBUCO At the Rota do Atlântico Concessionaire, an Odebrecht TransPort asset, Rafaela Araújo, Civil Engineer, leads the Operations area. She works with a high number of men and over the years, she has found that women are more focused and dedicated: “This is also true of daily situations, in which it is necessary to overcome challenges or resolve problems,” she said. Today, she leads both men and women and observes that the female differential is to always deliver beyond what was
30
asked. “We are more detail-oriented, careful and organized,” said Araújo “We do not wait to be asked, we simply take care of the details and think one step ahead, with determination and commitment.” She explains that she divided her day between work and two other passions: her 7-month old son Vitor and her husband. “In my personal life, I am as determined and careful as I am at work. “This feminine dedication is important for both environments, and women know how to balance tasks.”
TRANSPORT RIO DE JANEIRO Maria Dulce de Castro leads four men and one woman in the Traffic Safety area of SuperVia. An Electrical Engineer, in 1979 she became the first woman to work at the company’s shop offering services such installing equipment on trains, and revealed that she felt a resistance from both the men and also other women, who were responsible for more “delicate” activities. For Castro, there is no difference in capacity
between genders when it comes to work. “Regardless of the environment in which you work, the flow between people is based on mutual respect,” she said. Castro believes that if there is some differential for women, it is the intention to protect, almost by instinct. “We women bring a bit of our maternal affection of caring for people,” she said. “This feminine touch makes a difference amidst the piles of iron, gravel and cross-ties.”.

Good Performance Portrayed in a Book
Five hundred copies of the book 10 Anos Projeto Braskem (“10 Years - The Braskem Project”) were distributed to executives and Members of the Organization and local government entities
Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial celebrated the launch of the book 10 Anos Projeto Braskem (“10 Years - The Braskem Project”) to commemorate the anniversary of the project currently underway in Camaçari, Bahia. The publication describes the history of the project and emphasizes the development’s main characteristic - that of developing people from the community and Members. “During these years, the performance and quality of the Braskem Project were recognized with several different awards, both from society as well as business-related, which emphasize our respect toward others in everything we do,” emphasized Luís Ubirajara, Contract Director. He pointed out that the main driver behind the

development’s success was More Action - a motivational program that sought to professionally train Members and develop their social skills. The Braskem Project began in 2004, working in the segment of industrial assembly, primarily with “shutdown” events at the Braskem unit. The activities are specific for the alliance contract established between Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial and Braskem for Shutdown Management and Investment Management at the Braskem Business Units. It is considered a large-sized business due to the team that is mobilized at peak service times, one that may reach as many as 4,000 Members. During the year, the project has an average of 1,200 people working on the contract.

Maravilha Port Celebrates New Phases
A
t the start of this year, the revitalization process underway in the Rio
de Janeiro port region – called Maravilha Port – began a new phase. The development benefits from the synergy of four Organization Businesses: Odebrecht Properties is coordinating the work as part of the Porto Novo Concessionaire, responsible for the region’s urban administration for a 15-year period; Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil participates in the civil construction work through the Porto Rio consortium; Odebrecht TransPort is part of the VLT Carioca S.A. Concessionaire for the operation of the new means of urban transport that will pass through the neighborhood – the Light Rail Vehicle; and Odebrecht Realizações Imobiliárias is building a hotel and the Porto Atlântico multiuse complex.
One of Brazil’s largest PublicPrivate Partnerships (PPPs), under construction since 2011, Maravilha Port will benefit the some 100,000 people on average that circulate through the region, in addition to approximately 25,000 who live and work nearby. This number is expected to reach 100,000 people in 20 years. “The region is predicted to become one of the most import asset centers for Odebrecht Properties, from the Organization’s new head office in Rio de Janeiro to the corporate and public buildings (hospitals and schools, for example),” said Geraldo Villin, Senior Officer of Public Properties at Odebrecht Properties. “Maravilha Port can also offer spaces to new developments in the area of entertainment (such as convention centers and arenas),” he said.
Maravilha Port is revitalizing some 5 million m² in the Rio de Janeiro port region. The construction work is 50% completed

MANAGING THE COMMON GOOD
Porto Novo S.A. Concessionaire – which has Odebrecht Properties (37.5%), Construtora OAS Ltda. (37.5%) and Carioca Christiani-Nielsen Engenharia (25%) as shareholders – is responsible for completing the construction work and providing continuous services with aims of revitalizing the Rio de Janeiro port region. The services include the security, maintenance and conservation of public areas, storm drains and garbage collection, among others. For this purpose, the company has studied and researched intelligent and sustainable solutions in Brazil and in other countries that can be adapted and applied to the urban operation.
The garbage collection, for example, was inspired by the curbside collection model with underground storage, where the garbage from public recipients is discarded directly in large cans located beneath the asphalt. The system optimizes the public cleaning and recycling work and frees up the sidewalks. The traffic control also falls under the responsibility of Porto Novo, which created a monitoring system for the region’s roads. With its own Operation Control Center, the concessionaire supports CET-Rio and maintains direct contact with the city government’s Rio Operations Center so the two can complement the other in terms of monitoring the site..
Inspired by European experiences, the curbside garbage collection model that is being implemented at Maravilha Port is considered innovative in Brazil

CONTINUOUS EVOLUTION On January 17, workers began the second phase of the Perimetral Overpass removal work, which will allow for the advance of the Expressway tunnel construction, currently with 537.2 meters excavated. Differently from the first phase, which was imploded, the remainder of the Perimetral Overpass will be disassembled by the project team due to the fact that the structure is so close to residential and commercial buildings. On January 25, the last stretch of the overpass was also closed off to complete the disassembly process. The removal of the structure opens up the space for workers to complete the installation of the new Maravilha Port rapid transit system and the
water main that will connect the Pedregulho Reservoir to the Morro do Pinto Reservoir, together with all of the storm drain and sewage collector networks. On February 16, the Praça XV Underpass – an important street that connects the city’s Southern Zone to its North Zone – was closed off and passenger vehicles were also prohibited from circulating along the avenue Rio Branco, one of the main streets in the city’s downtown area. The closure was necessary in order to readjust the current route of the avenues and incorporate it into the new Expressway tunnel. For the Port Binary Road, the team is now dedicated to finalizing the tunnel, scheduled for the second half of 2014.
The removal of the Perimetral Overpass was divided into three phases. The team, which consists of approximately 1,000 people, is currently focused on removing the second stretch

MUSEUM OF TOMORROW VISITATION ROOM One of the main legacies of the Maravilha Port Urban Operation, the Museum of Tomorrow is currently under construction at Mauá Pier in Guanabara Bay. In order to give the public a sneak

peak at the new cultural space and its content, the Museum of Tomorrow visitation space was inaugurated on February 19. The attraction was installed at the project’s construction site and organized by the museum’s curatorship team, which is
sponsored by the Roberto Marinho Foundation. The space is designed to promote reflection, urging visitors to consider how their actions impact the planet through the use of interactive content. At the visitation room center, there is a table with a game of
questions and answers that presents issues such as climate change, biodiversity and population growth in the cities. Distributed throughout the room, 10 tablets help increase visitors’ knowledge about the topics addressed by the game and present details

about the museum’s curatorial and expographic work. A model of the building completes the environment, together with a map of the Maravilha Port region detailing the modifications to the site with the revitalization process. “The opening of the room helps people better understand the concept of the Museum of Tomorrow: tomorrow is not a date on the calendar or a place where we will fatally arrive; tomorrow is the construction that we create as people, citizens and members of the human species,” said Curator Luiz Alberto Oliveira. He added that the museum’s narrative, reflected in the project’s visitation room, invites visitors to think about the choices we make today and which will mold different possible “tomorrows.” “If we undertake certain actions, this will help promote future scenarios,” he said. “Recognizing that our common
future is still open is the first step in terms of helping us to deal with the challenges and opportunities that await us in the decades to come.” Present at the inauguration ceremony for the museum’s visitation room were Rio de Janeiro Mayor, Eduardo Paes; Municipal Secretary of the Presidential Chief-of-Staff, Pedro Paulo; Municipal Secretary of Culture, Sérgio Sá Leitão; President of the Porto Novo Concessionaire, José Renato Ponte; President of the Rio de Janeiro Port Region Urban Development Company, Alberto Silva; Sub-Secretary of Strategic Projects and Public Service Concessions and Public-Private Partnerships, Jorge Arraes; Chair of the Roberto Marinho Foundation, José Roberto Marinho; and the President of Santander Bank, Jesús Zabalza, sponsor of the Museum of Tomorrow.
Admission to the Museum of Tomorrow visitation room is free, and the site is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A DIFFERENT SPACE
With inauguration scheduled for March 2015, the Museum of Tomorrow will be a different kind of science space. Science museums usually have one of two lines of operation: some explore traces of the past, such as natural history museums, and others are focused on the evidences and experiences of the present day, such as science and technology museums. The Museum of Tomorrow proposes a third line, one focused on exploring possibilities. The public will be prompted to examine the past, consider the different current trends and imagine possible futures for the next 50 years through audiovisual environments, interactive installations and games. In this way, the
museum will promote a reflection on the “symptoms” of the new geological era of Anthropocene – in which man became a force capable of changing the climate, degrading biomes and interfering with ecosystems. The facility will be located on a 30,000-m² area with gardens, reflecting pools, a bicycle path and leisure area. Within this structure, 15,000 m² will be dedicated to the building, whose architecture will include sustainable items based on the use of natural resources, such as the water from the bay to air condition the inside of the museum and a roof that moves based on the position of the sun to supply the solar energy panels.
The architectural project for Museum of Tomorrow was designed by architect Santiago Calatrava

Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial has innovated in terms of the dissemination of knowledge, using the concept of Distance Education (EAD). In order to make the training possible, reducing the costs and time spent on participants’ travels, the Business’ Information Technology acquired the Cisco Webex tool, which allows for the conducting of meetings,
