New Technology at Cargo Terminals
Developed by Embraport, the new resource is unprecedented at Santos Port and helps streamline the procedure to release the cargo
4 2
I
nvesting in efficient and creative solutions that contribute toward the flow of the cargo terminal operations is part of the very essence of Embraport, an Odebrecht TransPort company. The most recent innovation, developed by the Information Technology (IT) area, is a solution that allows users to send online data during the activities at the Import Container Removal Guide (GRCI) – a procedure for transferring cargo from other terminals for storage at Embraport. In the previous process, the clerk (professional responsible for checking the cargo documentation) was responsible for going to the other terminal to inspect the container, check the documentation, record the information and authorize the release of the merchandise so that it can be sent to Embraport. Now, using a smartphone with 3G technology, the clerk can complete the inspection and the legal procedures more quickly and reliably. Data on the seal identification, volume, terminal exit time, driver identification, license plate of the trailer that is transporting the cargo, state of the cargo or possible damages are transmitted daily from the device to the Embraport Online System (EOL) using a specific application. Once the clerk provides the confirmation through the device, the system then schedules the trailer’s entry into Embraport, guaranteeing practicality and eliminating entire phases. With the new access format, the Customs Process and Property Security teams area able to monitor the exit site in real time, together with the transit time, estimated arrival, possible damage and even the destination ship for the cargo. It is also possible to search the history of removals for a specific cargo. Another important point is related to security. Any information
about possible damages or violations of the seal will be checked when the cargo arrives to Embraport. If any divergence is discovered, the system itself alerts the inspectors. “The new procedure means savings of up to 50% in the cargo entrance time at the terminal,” explained Marcio André Mateus, IT Coordinator at Embraport “It eliminates the need for manual scheduling, granted that the verified information is exhibited to the Embraport inspectors on their data collectors, making it necessary only to confirm the information, in addition to offering more detailed information in the EOL,” he said.
FASTER AND MORE EFFICIENT SERVICE Embraport has had another innovation available to clients since May: the option to request the reweighing of cargo through the Embraport Online page. The action involves the removal of the container from its current position to be sent to one of the mobile scales in the yard, representing additional security for those clients that wish to verify the weight of the container previously entered in the terminal system. If there is some divergence with relation to the last weight entered or if there is some divergence that is greater than 10% of the volume, the client becomes responsible for the transfer costs. The new measurement is beneficial both for Embraport as well as for the clients, since it establishes a standard for the process, avoiding revenue losses for the company and generating control and safety for the clients, who can consult the expenses from previous re-weighing procedures.

Construction Work Ahead of Schedule in Bahia On May 27, Enseada Indústria Naval finalized the pile driving phase (placement of piles) for Dock 2 of the Paraguaçu Unit in Bahia. This phase should be concluded on July 10. The operation began in September of last year and mobilized some 70 professionals from areas such as Foundation, Maritime and Cargo Transfer, Manufacturing Support and Bracing. When concluded, Dock 2 will be 188 meters long and 35 meters wide and be used to move – on rails – one of the “legs” of the super crane Goliath, which is being assembled at Enseada. The unit already has Dock 1 ready, completed some four months ago, to moor the vessels carrying equipment that is
crucial for the Business’ industrial process. The second dock will also have strategic importance for the Paraguaçu Unit shipyard. “It will be in it that our first drill rig, Ondina, will dock to receive the top-side parts,” explained Roberto Bastos, responsible for Industrial Support at Enseada. Diomedes Victor, one of those responsible for the foundations in the sea at the Estaleiro Paraguaçu Consortium (CEP), revealed that Dock 3 is already ahead of schedule in the pile driving phase. “The entire team has made a major effort,” said Victor. “That is why we will also complete the pile driving of the third dock before the originally scheduled date.”

Guatemala: New Opportunities for Growth
Odebrecht is recovering and duplicating Guatemala’s main highway: the CA-2

I
n June, Odebrecht Infrastructure - Latin America completes one year of operations in Guatemala, the most recent Central American country to join the Group’s map of operations. Odebrecht is completing the recovery and duplication work of 140 km of the 300 km of the
Centro Americana 2 Highway (CA2), which traverses the Southern part of the Guatemalan territory from the border with El Salvador to Mexico. The road plays a crucial role in the country’s logistics, since it transports the equivalent of 65% of Guatemala’s GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in the form of products for export and domestic

consumption. The contract, worth approximately US$ 384 million, is one of the largest investments

potential for new business in Guatemala,” said Marcos Machado, the Senior Officer in the country. The completion of the CA-2 Highway project creates some major challenges for the team

due to the contractual term and climate and geography conditions. The rainy periods in the region, for example, which extend from May to October, have rainfall rates between 4,000 and 5,000 millimeters per year. Even under these conditions, the work must be completed until June 2016. In order to overcome these difficulties, the project was organized along three stretches extending approximately 45 km each with 18 simultaneous work fronts engaged in earth leveling, bridge construction and paving activities. “We are already completing work along 30 km of road,” said Leonardo Sverzut, Production Manager.
support the production of the paving teams,” explained Sverzut. The field teams are also working to build eight bridges. The San Francisco Bridge – the first to be delivered in April 2014 – represented a milestone in the advancement of the CA-2 construction work. Its inauguration was attended by the President of Guatemala, Otto Pérez Molina. “The bridge offers a unique level of safety, with a shoulder for cars and exclusive sidewalk for pedestrians,” said Carlos Eduardo Marques Rosa, Contract Director. “It is considered an unprecedented standard in the country,” he said.
21
The CA-2 construction work has generated job opportunities for some 1,900 Guatemalans, including both Members and sub-contracted workers. Of the 588 Members, 21 recently graduated from universities and joined Odebrecht through the Young Partner Program. Below are the stories of three Odebrecht Members in Guatemala.
JAIME ESCOBAR, RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INDUSTRIAL ASPHALT PLANTS
With 20 years of experience at shredding plants, Escobar left his job as a technical consultant and his portfolio of clients to start working at Odebrecht. “I was very motivated when faced with the challenge of leading large industrial plants and about the possibility of growing at the company,” said Escobar. “Besides this, of course another factor was the possibility of my name being part of the history of development in my country with the major construction project,” he said.
22
JORGE JUAREZ, PROJECT ENGINEER After having worked at American and Japanese companies, Juarez states that at Odebrecht, he found more freedom to communicate and contribute. “Here, I have a leader who orients me and allows me to lead a business, and this makes a huge difference,” he revealed. “I can use my experience without running into too many limitations.”
JOSÉ DIVAS, YOUNG PARTNER As part of his first professional experience, Divas is working in the Sustainability area as the Security Supervisor along one of the project stretches. “The road where we are working is considered one of the country’s most hazardous due to the high number of accidents,” he explained. Accordingly, maintaining the zero accident goal in this environment is a major, constant challenge that has greatly promoted my own development. “The trust and support they dedicate to us are incredible.”

Highways:
Sum of Experiences
A
mong the different infrastructure projects completed by the Group in Brazil and in the other 40 countries
in which it has accumulated experience, highways have earned a special space over these past 70 years of Odebrecht’s history. This is primarily due to the way it has increased its knowledge in this field, consolidating the Group’s position as one of the main construction companies and operators of projects n this segment. In 1980, Odebrecht and the Brazilian Project and Construction Work Company (CBPO) joined their experiences in civil construction engineering, associating technical and management knowledge and mutually complementing one another. This union added some important experiences, such as the construction of stretches of the Imigrantes, Trabalhadores and Castelo Branco Highways, all important roadways in São Paulo. Projects like these, completed in Bahia, Pernambuco and São Paulo, in Brazil, or in Peru, Portugal, Argentina and Colombia, gave Odebrecht a solid base of knowledge for building highways. So, why not expand the Group’s activities and also operate these highways as well?
24
RENATO MELLO is Highway Director at Odebrecht TransPort. He has been a part of the Group for 26 years and worked on several different concession projects at Odebrecht in Brazil and in Portugal, United States and Germany. When Odebrecht TransPort was created, the Group had three assets: the Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire in São Paulo; Litoral Norte Concessionaire in Bahia and Rota das Coqueiros Concessionaire in Pernambuco. The merging of these companies formed a new Business in 2010
The trust in this knowledge accumulated in the highway segment and in Members’ capacity to constantly innovate led to the creation of two new Businesses: Odebrecht TransPort, created in 2010 and operating eight highway concessions in Brazil among its portfolio of assets, and Odebrecht Latinvest, created in 2012 and which holds infrastructure assets in the segments of roads, rapid transit and pipelines, prioritizing Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Panama.
In order to celebrate the Group’s 70-year anniversary during the course of the year, Odebrecht News presents special articles in its different editions. Access the Odebrecht 70 anos icon on the ON website: www.odebrechtnoticias.com.br
25
P I O N E E R I N G A P P R OAC H Innovative methods and techniques applied by Members at the projects have continued to satisfy clients during these past 70 years. So much so, that they bestowed Odebrecht with a new responsibility: that of not just building, but also administrating important roads. For Renato Mello, the Group’s experience acquired through highway concessions in other countries was an important differential for the operations in Brazil. In developed countries, the infrastructure projects are generally made possible through partnerships with the private sector under the project finance regime. “Odebrecht has contributed to developing the use of this mechanism in Brazil,” said Mello. With a balanced distribution of risks between the public and private sectors, investors are more secure about what was contracted and the financers are protected in relation to the feasibility of the projects. Even when it started out, Odebrecht TransPort was prepared when the state and federal governments in Brazil began a movement to accelerate concession projects, recognizing the importance of the partnership with private initiative. Based on such opportunities, Renato Mello pointed out that the synergy with Odebrecht Infrastructure, assuming the engineering and construction of roads through Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts, was decisive for the rapid growth Odebrecht TransPort in the highway concession sector. “The partnership represents an important competitive advantage, since with good engineering we can streamline processes and guarantee the delivery of high quality services,” reinforced Mello. This synergy is yet another example of the innovation demonstrated by the Group, which extended far beyond the
26
construction or operation methods. During the course of its history, in all of the projects and assets administered, the exchange of knowledge between the Members themselves is what has guaranteed the necessary drive for the Group to continue growing and receive recognition in the market. In order to promote this practice and document this experience, in 2001 Odebrecht implemented the Communities of Knowledge, an environment in which Members interact – both onsite and virtually – to share what they have learned and good practices, exchange both successful and unsuccessful cases, ask questions and support projects. The topics include the Highway Community of Knowledge, led by Member Mauro Hueb. Since 2005, the space has been an efficient way of gathering together the Group’s biggest wealth: the Knowledgeable People that are part of it. The Highway Community of Knowledge has 683 participants from different countries and different Group Businesses.
VISION OF TH E FUTURE With this “heavyweight team” and the knowledge it has acquired, the perspectives for growth for the Group in the field of Highways are quite positive. Odebrecht TransPort, for example, already has eight concessions that administer 1,768 kilometers of roads in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Mato Grosso, Paraná and Pernambuco, the route for over 785,000 vehicles daily. In terms of the concessions, Odebrecht’s commitment has extended beyond the civil construction work itself. It is also attentive to the users’ well-being. The residents of Salvador who work at the Camaçari Industrial Center, for example, now enjoy a better quality of life with the new layout of the BA093 Highway System. The commute time between the Salvador
27
capital and the factories was reduced by a whole hour, the direct result of the 34-km duplication completed by the Bahia Norte Concessionaire. Some 400 cyclists pass along Rota dos Coqueiros each week to use of the 6.5 km of bicycle paths that the concessionaire maintains along the Paiva Reserve road system in Pernambuco. In May, the company launched the Cyclist on the Route program, an initiative that offers maintenance services for bicycles, such as brake regulation and calibration and safety tips for cyclists. “We want to encourage the use of bicycles as a way of improving the population’s quality of life, and primarily, orient people on how to go cycling safely on roads,” said Roberta Nunes, responsible for Sustainability at Rota dos Coqueiros. Offering users the best possible service sometimes involves unusual situations. In March of this year, Luciana Miranda and Tereza Calvim Fornazieri, Members of Rota das Bandeiras, rescued driver Amarildo Marques de Souza and his wife Selma Pereira de Souza, who was pregnant. Selma was in labor, and without time to reach the hospital in Campinas, the baby was born at the toll plaza located in Cosmópolis, rural São Paulo, with the support of the concessionaire team that followed the orientations of the physical on-call at the Rota das Bandeiras Operational Control Center. “I will always be grateful for everything that was done for my child, my wife and myself,” said Amarildo. For 2014, the focus of Odebrecht TransPort has been to implement the recently-awarded contracts: the PR-323 corridor, result of the first highway public-private highway in Paraná, and Rota do Oeste, which will administer a 850.9km stretch in Mato Grosso – the road is the main means for the transport of agricultural production from the country’s
28
Central-West region, which accounts for 30% of the national grain production. “The projects are examples of how the company is attentive to opportunities in those regions with a growth potential above the Brazilian average and which have decisive roles when it comes to reducing logistics bottlenecks,” explained Renato Mello. Over the next five years, Odebrecht TransPort plans to invest R$ 7.3 billion in its own assets as well as those of third parties in the highway sector in Brazil. One important factor guiding this growth is the offer of services where, due to the quality of the highway, the user enjoys gains in terms of transport costs, time, convenience and safety, and being satisfied, is able to recognize the cost-benefit of the concession highways. “The projects that interest us are the structuring ones that bring social gains and promote real changes in the lives of people and productivity of companies,” said Mello. “This is development.”
“
With the improvements along BA-093, there was an improvement in people’s quality of life and the road became safer

Nacala International Airport. In 2013, Odebrecht received the award for being a Model Company in Social Responsibility from the Nacala Province Government for its actions related to the Believe Program and the social programs focused on health and citizenship.
PRESENCE IN MOZAMBIQUE In 2014, Odebrecht is celebrating 10 years of operations in Mozambique MOÇAMBIQUE as well. The Group won the bid for its first project in 1994, which was the rehabilitation of the National Road 6, Inchope Machipanda stretch for the National Road and Bridge Department. With the construction work completed in 1997, Odebrecht returned to the country again only in 2007 for the Moatize Coal project. The Group’s work in the country has been accompanied by the implementation of several social-environmental programs, including Believe, with some 2,000 people trained, and the Social Agricultural Project, which has already directly benefitted 90 families and was winner of the 2013 Destaque Award. As part of a partnership with the Ministry of Labor, Odebrecht also promoted an unprecedented type of training in the country: it qualified 21 technicians in Workplace Safety and 52 monitors. During these past 10 years, it has served public and private clients as part of important infrastructure projects for the country. Recently, it won the rights to a contract for the construction and operation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), a project that will transform rapid transit in the capital of Maputo.

Infrastructure - Brazil celebrated World Environment Day in synergy with Odebrecht Infrastructure - Latin America and Odebrecht Infrastructure - Africa, Arab Emirates and Portugal. The Baixo Iguaçu Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) – currently being built by Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil in Paraná – created a campaign to raise Members’ awareness about each one’s responsibility to preserve the Environment with activities promoted during the week of June 2-6. During the campaign creation process, Anelisa Cantieri, the professional responsible for the Environment Program at the Baixo Iguaçu HPP, shared the initiative and the publicity materials with her former work colleagues, who are
52
now stationed at other Odebrecht projects. This prompted Nelson Costa Alves, responsible for the Environment area at the Laúca Hydroelectric Facility in Angola, and Edwin Richard Díaz, leader of Sustainability and Communication at the Chaglla Hydroelectric Facility in Peru, to also share the campaigns promoted at their contracts. The idea behind the three projects was to promote the actions undertaken by Odebrecht designed to protect those regions in which it operates as well as emphasize the importance of Members’ involvement with the cause.
THE BEGINNING During the week, the Baixo Iguaçu HPP cafeteria hosted a photo exhibit showing the main processes adopted at the construction site to reduce environmental impacts. In

addition to the exhibit, there were also lectures about environmental preservation at the start of each work shift, during the Daily Safety Training Sessions with the field teams. The project’s proximity to the Iguaçu Waterfalls and Iguaçu National Park, home to one of the few Atlantic Forest conservation sites, requires even more care by the Environment team.
For Cantieri, the most important role of the Baixo Iguaçu HPP Environment Week is to receive each Member’s help in the environmental preservation processes. “Projects can only be sustainable if everyone involved participates,” she said. “By raising the team’s awareness, we can improve results.”

ANGOLAN INVOLVEMENT During the same period, the Laúca Hydroelectric Facility, currently being built by Odebrecht Infrastructure - Africa, Arab Emirates and Portugal in Angola, presented for the team plays, lectures and phrase contests about Environmental Preservation and Quality of Life. The lectures addressed everything from conscious energy use to the importance of preserving water, which included the participation of the laboratory that monitors the drinking and ground water from the Kwanza River for the Laúca Hydroelectric Facility. The theaters presented

plays featuring topics such as curbside collection, assistance during environmental emergencies, the importance of water and environmental preservation. At the end of the week, the winners from the phrase contest were announced, with the top three receiving awards. The First Laúca Environment Week included the participation of approximately 1,500 Members. With the success of the initiative, new campaigns will be held during the year, aiming to increase the participation and awareness of the Members to improve quality of life and promote a concern with the Environment.
At the Chaglla Hydroelectric Facility, Environment Week worked to raise the awareness of some 1,000 Members
PERUVIAN INITIATIVE At the Chaglla Hydroelectric Facility, the week included activities to raise Members’ awareness about the topic and also publicize the socialenvironmental actions promoted by Odebrecht near the construction project. There were conversations on each contract work front about the results of the environmental programs promoted by the project, such as the recovery of the region’s fauna and flora, solid waste management and
the composting process for the production of organic fertilizer, in addition to actions focused on income generation, the promotion of health and education for the local community. At the Sustainability Fair, the social-environmental highlights of the Chaglla Hydroelectric Facility were presented in an educational and interactive way with games and a drawing for prizes. In this way, the contract renewed its commitment to the Peruvian community for the continuous improvement of environmental management.

families. With the mission of organizing and strengthening the social capital, creating the circumstances for the full exercise of citizenship, the activities began at the Rights and Citizenship Institute (IDC) – one of the entities associated with the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), supported by the Odebrecht Foundation together with public and private partners. Ten years later, with four permanent units located in the Bahia municipalities of Camamu, Nilo Peçanha, Presidente Tancredo Neves and Valença, IDC has offered 350,000 appointments, benefitting more than 100,000 people. “During this time, we learned the importance of doing things together, of being united to work toward a common goal and building solutions for the development of our region,” emphasized Maria Celeste Pereira, Executive Director IDC. The institute works through two centers: Citizen Assistance, offering access the public policies (such as the

issuing of basic civil documentation: worker’s card and identification card, among others), and Education for Citizenship, designed to train community leaders and qualify the Municipal Board for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA) and Guardianship Councils of the Southern Lowlands. On May 27, an event was held to celebrate the 10 years of IDC, which gathered together the community, Members and local partners at the Novo Horizonte Farm, head office of the Presidente Tancredo Neves Rural Family Home in Bahia. Also attending were representatives of the executive, legislative and judicial branches from the municipalities of Valença and Camamu, from CMDCA and the Guardianship Council. “IDC works to interact with the surrounding community and its mission is to serve citizens,” explained João Nildo, Coordinator of the IDC Social-Productive Inclusion area, who has worked at the institution since 2004. “We started a dialogue and through this process, we were able to contribute toward the development of the region’s residents.
I’m very proud to be part of the history of this institution and contribute toward the transformation in the lives of many
being part of this initiative,” he said. “The many strong words of phrase expressed here only confirm the
of the families in the place where I live,” emphasized Nildo. Luiz Rocha, Secretary of Planning and President of the Presidente Tancredo Neves CMDCA, stated: “I want to congratulate all of those for
importance of the grandiose service offered by IDC to the municipalities of the Southern Lowlands.” For Celeste Pereira, “the achievements should be celebrated and encourage new and bigger challenges.”
