The Organization’s Results in Agroindustry Odebrecht Agroindustrial has released its Annual Report for the 2012-2013 harvest. This is the third year that the company has published its Annual Report based on the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Level A standard – a reflection of the continuous improvement and intensification of its good management practices.

At Mexico’s Largest Greenfield Project On October 1, Braskem Idesa – the joint venture responsible for Mexico’s new petrochemical complex – received a visit by Marcelo Odebrecht, President and CEO of Odebrecht S.A. and Chair of the Braskem Board of Directors; Emilio Lozoya Austin, General Director of the company Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX); Javier Duarte de Ochoa, Governor of the State of Veracruz; Marcos Raposo, Ambassador of Brazil in Mexico; Luis Weyll, Senior Officer at Odebrecht Infrastructure in Mexico; and Roberto Bischoff, Vice President of the Braskem Latin America Unit.

The meeting was also attended by Saulo Vinicius, Senior Officer at Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial in Mexico; Manuel Sanchez Guzmán, Director of the company PEMEX Petroquímica; Alejandro Martinez, Director of the company PEMEX Gas; Cleantho Leite, Commercial Director of Institutional Relations and Business Development at Braskem Idesa; and the

The petrochemical complex Braskem Idesa, known in the region for Ethylene XXI Project, has its construction led by Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial (40%), which is partnered by italian Technip (40%) and mexican ICAFluor (20%).

The group listened to a presentation about the progress at the development, given by Stefan Lanna Lepecki, Project Director at Braskem Idesa, and Eduardo Rozendo, Contract Director of Ethylene XXI Project, and also toured the plant under construction.

The complex is Braskem’s main greenfield project outside Brazil and involves some 10,000 job opportunities during the installation phase.

When it begins operation in 2015, it will have the capacity to produce more than 1 million annual tons of polyethylene, in addition to an equivalent volume of the raw material, ethane.

Progress for Transport in Lima On the first day of October, the President of Peru, Ollanta Humala Tasso, visited the construction work for Stretch 2 of the Lima Subway – currently being completed by Odebrecht Infrastructure.

Together with the Minister of Transport and Communication, Carlos Paredes Rodríguez, the President began his tour at the Caja de Agua station in San Juan de Lurigancho, and walked between the Rímac and Huáscar bridges along the “O” stretch.

With 85% of the construction work complete, Ollanta Humala emphasized that by April 2014, Stretch 2 will be operating and integrated with the Line 1. “The subway is an important project being completed with state-of-the-art technology and will bring value to the city,” said. The President ensured that the project is important to freeing up traffic in Lima.

Eduardo Odebrecht Queiroz received the group with an institutional presentation of the Organization. “We are present in 26 countries, we are the fourth largest private Organization in Brazil and we are an

In order to present the new Operational Control Center (OCC) to passengers, SuperVia – the Odebrecht TransPort asset – has opened the site up for the first visits. The event gathers groups of a maximum of 10 people and lasts up to one hour. During the tour through the OCC, visitors can ask questions about the railroad operation and get a detailed look at the space, considered the most modern in Latin America.

“Assistance and respect for passengers is our top priority,” said João Gouveia, SuperVia Operations Director. “We launched the Operational Control Center virtual visitation platform and now we are opening up OCC’s

A Factory Under Construction Innovative technologies generate opportunities for professional growth. At the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP) construction site in Bahia, several challenging processes have marked the progress of the construction work. One of those with the highest impact occurred in September of this year: the assembly of the trusses at Shop 6, which extends 74,000 square meters, also called the Structure Shop.

At the factory, which is the largest building in the Shipyard, metal plates and profiles will be processed and transformed into blocks to be used to build ships in the future.

“Assembling the first parts was the most complicated, because there is a curve of experience involved with everything that is new, or in other words, a time for learning in order to master the processes,” explained engineer Haylton Considera, Assembly and Electromechanical Manager. The first truss took five days to be assembled, and the second, three days. It is estimated that, in

one week, it will be possible to assemble two trusses per day.

The logistics to hoist the 38-meter structure is complex. Divided into three sessions, the truss has a central part that is assembled and positioned – a method that is then repeated with the ends joined to it. After that comes the prestressing service (to tighten the part) and the paving of the spliced sections. After the concrete curing time is completed, the truss is hoisted to a height of 25 meters, and finally, fastened to the pillars that support it.

“The work involves Members from different areas, such as Earth Leveling and Cargo Movement and Elevation,” said Haylton Considera. He emphasized the importance of synergy between the teams for ensuring the development’s success: “People are interacting, trusting one another more, becoming more efficient, better trained,” said Considera. “Technically speaking, the process tends to flow better when the teams work in harmony,” he said.

One More Challenge Overcome The Aguas del Paraná Consortium – which is headed by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Argentina – achieved a new goal: september 27 marked the conclusion of the second stretch of the tunnel that joins Paraná de las Palmas with the future water treatment unit Juan Manuel de Rosas.

Maracanã: A Good Place to Take the Family The stage for Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo soccer games, Maracanã has pleased the majority of the fans that frequent its installations. In a survey conducted by Datafolha at the request of the concessionaire that manages the stadium, 94% of the people who responded indicated the site as a place for family outings. women also indicated the outing as a good opportunity for family time. The men’s core for the structure was 8.6, while for women it was 8.9.

On October 14, Braskem and Styrolution – a global leader in the segment of styrenes – announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to evaluate the formation of a joint venture in Brazil.

Partnership Reinforced On September 23, the Odebrecht Agroindustrial Araguaia Center held a meeting with its suppliers and local producers through the Lease and Supply Team.

Some 50 guests exchanged experiences, learned more about the different varieties of sugarcane and its handling, asked questions and presented their results. The event featured the lecture “Production Environments vs. New Varieties of CTC – Reed Bed Technology Center,” administered by Joedes Luiz Zuza, Regional Manager of the Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso and Tocantins CTC. For Virgílio Cruvinel, Lease and

Supply Manager at the Araguaia Center, the meetings are important for strengthening relations and earning new partners. “The Araguaia Center has developed programs for two and a half years to promote long term partnerships with grain producers from the region,” said Cruvinel. “We invited current suppliers and also future partners,” he said.

The event was also attended by Fabiano Zillo, Former Head of the Araguaia Center, who presented his successor, Vitório Bredariol. The new head of the center emphasized that his goal is add to and strengthen this long term partnership.

Experience Shared On October 9 and 10, Braskem gathered scientists and researchers from its units in Brazil, the United States and Europe for the 1 st Global Technology and Innovation Conference. The meeting was held in Rio Grande do Sul and designed to promote integration and the exchange of knowledge between professionals.

Involving the participation of 150 Members, the event included a presentation of studies, projects and trends related to polymers, renewables and basic petrochemicals. The teachers Dr. Kenneth B. Wagener, who earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Florida; and Dr. Tom Ziegler, Ph.D., who earned a degree in Inorganic Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Calgary, was the speakers at the conference.

From 2009 to 2012, the Brazilian research center at Braskem was responsible for launching 64 new products, which represent 18% of the total volume calculated with the sale of the company’s thermoplastic resins.

Since March this year, an archeology team has been accompanying the construction work for the Rio de Janeiro Subway Line 4.

Some 200,000 items from the Imperial period have been found, including objects that belonged to the Brazilian royalty

hose who pass through the Rio de Janeiro neighborhood of Leopoldina, in Rio de Janeiro, could never imagine what is beneath the homes and commercial stores found in the region. An archeological site was discovered during the construction work for the Subway Line 4, completed by the Linha 4 Sul Consortium – headed

by Odebrecht Infrastructure.

Since the very start of construction, a team formed

by 26 professionals – including archeologists, historians and biologists – has monitored if some material appears during the excavation. Until October this year, some 200,000 items from the 17 th , 18 th and 19 th centuries were discovered, revealing details about the city’s history.

“We may be looking at the most important archeological site in Rio de Janeiro,” explained Cláudio Prado de Mello, responsible for the research work at the site.

“The amount and the quality of

the material found is impressive,” he said.

“HIS MAJESTY, THE EMPEROR” The items were discovered on the terrain next to the former Leopoldina train station. The site serves as home to a factory for staves (concrete rings), which will be used by the ‘Tatuzão’ tunnel boring machine to open the project’s tunnels of subway.

The materials have been carefully recovered, and after being studied and cataloged, they

will be sent to an archeological research institution to be defined by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute (IPHAN).

One of the objects found by the team was a toothbrush made from ivory and bone with an inscription in French: “S M L’ EMPEREUR DU BRESIL” (His Majesty, the Emperor of Brazil ) . It is believed the object once belonged to Dom Pedro II or another member of the Portuguese royal family, which

The stoneware containers found were imported from Germany, many bringing water back from the “Nassau Source,” known for its purity. It was believed that the water could cure all ailments

In addition to the inscription, this thesis is further backed by the site’ s proximity to the Quinta da Boa Vista Palace, as well as the fact that history proves that the region of the Leopoldina served as a site for disposing of the waste originating from the Imperial Palace. “Just 2. 5 meters under the surface, we found pieces of plates, glass, leather, porcelain and even gold,” said Mello. “With this work, it is possible to recreate the past of this entire region, ” he said.

The edition received 37 projects created by university students from different regions of the country who thought the engineering in a sustainable manner. This is the second edition of the award in Argentina, and it surpassed the number of projects signed up in 2012 by 66%.

Shortcuts to Work More Effectively On September 23, the Maragojipe Water Line – EEP began operating in Bahia, designed to serve the 410 Members of the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP), who used five of the seven boats designed for the commute.

Domingos Sávio, AdministrativeFinancial Manager of the Enseada do Paraguaçu Consortium – responsible for building the Bahia shipyard –, recalled that this was something requested by the workers and also the company’s desire to offer people enhanced comfort and safety. “Although

it is more expensive, the waterway transport offers Members more convenience and benefits,” said Sávio.

“They are the ones who are completing the construction work. We are just the managers.” The next step will be the extension of the benefit to the evening hours.

In August of this year, EEP inaugurated the São Roque – EEP crossing, which shortened the commute from one hour and twenty minutes to just 10 minutes, benefitting more than 600 workers.

Learn and ‘Believe’ On September 26 and 27, representatives from the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) visited the installations of the Continued Professional Qualification Program – Believe at the construction site for the Puerto La Cruz Refinery, currently being built by Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial in the State of Anzoátegui, Venezuela. The goal of the meeting, which was offered by Francisco Penteado, Senior Officer in the country, was to establish partnerships to finance projects in the region.

The visitors listened to a presentation about the stages of the development and toured the different areas of Believe, such as the University Village where the Basic Module classes are held; the Refinery

Area, called J000, designed for technical courses, including with simulators of large equipment operations; and a site that belongs to the Puerto La Cruz City Government called ICAM, where the program’s classrooms are constructed.

The IDB group also visited Basurero Macotal, the former area used as a garbage dump for the entire region, which will be cleaned up and joined with the refinery. The representatives from Odebrecht demonstrated the importance of qualification for the state’s socialcultural, environmental and people development, as well as the availability of resources that are qualified to supply the market demand as required by the client PDVSA - Petróleo de Venezuela S.A.

Developing Leaders On August 22 and 23, Odebrecht Infrastructure in Panama held the 2 nd Annual Meeting of Professionals Responsible for Programs ( RPs) for 217 Members.

The professional were divided into two groups to monitor topics such as the Organization’s action in the country and rest of the world, the challenges faced by the leadership, Workplace Safety, and primarily, the actions related to implementing the Policy on the Identification, Development, Evaluation and Integration of new Members.

There was also a space for participants to exchange experiences and discuss new ideas on the practice of Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology ( TEO ) , together with the items that make up the Organization’ s culture. During the exercise, the RPs were able to share their own perspectives on putting into practice the role of leader responsible for leveraging the work environment as a space for the continuous growth of their team members.

André Rabello, Senior Office in Panama, took part in the meeting and shared her life and career experience, and prompted those present to reflect on the importance of working with purposeful ambition and being disciplined by a pillar for personal and professional growth.

The final phase of the Young Technician Program gathered 31 candidates and selected 16 youth

Building the Future Together September 30 marked the last stage of the selection process for the 2013 Young Technician (JT) Program, promoted by Odebrecht in Argentina. The process is designed to identify youth with a profile considered similar to the Organization’s culture to develop their careers at the Organization.

Lasting eight hours, the final dynamic exercise involved the participation of 31 people from different regions of the country, and was also attended by those

responsible for People & Organization (P&O) from the Odebrecht contracts and office.

The candidates also learned about the career of Carlos Guerra, a Member of the Organization for the past 15 years and currently in charge of the Nuevo Sarmiento Consortium (CNS) Materials area, who shared his experiences and growth at the Odebrecht.

At the end, 16 youth were selected and invited to join Odebrecht starting in 2014.

Chance to Learn and Grow With aims of improving Members’ literacy in the Production area, the Construtor Centro Administrativo do Distrito Federal Consortium - CADF (formed by Odebrecht Infrastructure and Via Engenharia) formed a partnership with the Federal District Construction Industry Social Service (SECONCI) to offer adult education classes.

The teaching method adopted is called “Education for Youth and Adults” (EJA) and recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education. This type of teaching allows people with different levels of schooling to study in the same class by giving them a personalized focus.

At the consortium construction site, the classes take place four times per week

and are led by teacher Vanderlene da Silva Santos. Working for 11 years as an educator, she spoke about her pride at helping give the adults who did not know how to read and write a new perspective on life. “Being able to help these people is very gratifying,” she said. “It touches my heart to be able to contribute toward their growth, primarily because many of them had to give up this right when they were children to help their families earn money,” she said.

Assembler Sandro de Sousa Almeida, age 37, participated in the first group and received his certificate. “Today, I can say that I have a new chance in life and I’m very grateful for the opportunity to learn to read and write,” said Almeida proudly.

On September 29, Odebrecht Infrastructure in Peru held the 1 st Family Pedaling for Members and families.

Some 300 people gathered in the district of Miraflores, with bicycles, rollerblades and tricycles, among other equipment, and received free shirts of the initiative. The participants enjoyed beverages, fruits and cereal bars to replenish their energies during the six kilometer course. The event

also offered equipment rentals and bicycle riding classes.

The start of the pedaling was announced by Liliana Vértiz, responsible for People & Organization in the country. The group Feeling Good conducted the warm up activities, followed by the Odebrecht Outdoor team – a group of members that meets each week to go cycling – responsible for guiding the event course.

Breakfast with the Leader gathers the Contract leadership with Members who stood out during the month in the development of their work activities

In October, the Imboaçu ACP project, Held by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Rio de Janeiro, organized the second Breakfast with the Leader. The initiative offers a breakfast and opportunity for the leaders from the Contract to hear from Members and strengthen the relationship with their team members.

During the meeting, the team has the opportunity to express its opinions and propose ideas to improve the work environment. In this edition, Marcos Saliveros, Contract Director; Gildoberto Porto, Administrative-Financial Manager; Fredy Brito, responsible for Production and Planning; and Ronaldo Richard, Production Engineer, heard from Members Daniel Lira, Claudio Oliveira, Adriano da Silva, Rogério

de Paula, Luiz Filipe Machado, Erenildo dos Santos and Francisco Carvalho. The group addressed topics such as the change in the lunch schedule and the risks related to Workplace Safety.

The Imboaçu ACP began in February 2013 with the objective of desilting eight kilometers of the Imboaçu River in São Gonçalo. Seven neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro will be benefitted through the project. Besides helping to end the frequent flooding in the region, the intervention will also contribute toward the clean-up of Guanabara Bay. The residents will also have paved streets, sidewalks for pedestrians and bicycle lanes, and riverside parks with native species of Brazilian flora.

Together for Health in Angola On October 8, the Business Committee in the Fight Against AIDS, headed by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Angola, held a lunch to debate new actions for controlling the disease in the country.

The event was attended by Angola’s Ministry of Health, Dr. José Van-Dunem; of Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (ONUSIDA) and the Sub-Secretary of the Unite Nations Organization (UNO), Dr. Michel Sidibé; and the Director of the National Institute in the Fight Against AIDS, Ducelina Serrano. The opening was held by the Members of Odebrecht Infrastructure in Angola: Paulo Campos, responsible for the Environment and Social Responsibility;

Dahia Blando, Senior Officer and Marcus Felipe, responsible for Planning and People.

During the meeting, the leaders encouraged other companies and institutions to join the committee by developing programs aligned with the government’s guidelines for controlling AIDS. “Our goal until 2015 is to reduce the number of children born with the disease in the country,” said Dr. Michel Sidibé.

For Jorge Preto, representative from the Business Committee and responsible for the Health program in Angola, meetings like this one help create synergies and leverage good practices for efficiently fighting AIDS, contributing toward the country’s sustainable growth.

Communication as a Strategy During the second half of 2013, the leaders of institutions that are part of the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS) – supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners – took part in the 2014 Planning Cycle. During the monthly meetings, participants define the 2014-2016 Action Plans and the Action Programs (APs) for the upcoming year.

On October 2, a debate on the strategic importance of Communication marked the agenda. Márcio Polidoro, responsible for Communication at Odebrecht S.A., shared experiences about the topic. “There are many institutions that arrive to a community with the best of intentions, but are unable to communicate adequately because they do

not have this priority as something strategic within the AP,” explained Polidoro. “Instead of generating a positive sentiment, expectation resulting from trust, they generate doubt, fantasies and rumors,” he said.

To close the meeting, Caroline Azevedo, Sustainability Director at the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard, presented a Communication and Relationship case with the community in the region where then shipyard is being installed in Bahia. After that, Vivian Barbosa, responsible for Communication at the Odebrecht Foundation, promoted the reflection on the inclusion of Communication-related challenges in the 2014 AP. Also sharing their own impressions about the topic were Mauricio Medeiros and Delcy Machado Filho, Executive Chair and Vice Chair of Sustainability at the Odebrecht Foundation, respectively.

A Different Kind of Breakfast On September 12, the Odebrecht Shared Service Center (SSC) offered the 3 rd Breakfast to the secretaries of the Organization’s Engineering and Construction companies. The event included the participation of 27 secretaries of the offices supported by the area. The idea was to promote the exchange of experiences and answer questions about the processes developed by the SSC, while also offering a moment of integration.

The guests walked around the office and spoke with the Members of the team that make up the support area. During the opening, Dilson Zanatta, leader of the SSC, emphasized that the Breakfast with the Secretaries is an event that has become a part of the area’s annual agenda. “We understand and value the preservation of good relations and open dialogue with this group of people that are so important for the development of our activities.”

The meeting continued with Eduardo Quesada, responsible for the Integrated Receipt (RI) at the SSC, and was closed

by Rodrigo Villa Real, of the People & Organization area at Odebrecht Infrastructure - Brazil. “The receipt, screening, recording and forwarding of documents are the main activities undertaken by the RI area,” explained Quesada. “We currently process more than 36,000 payments per month. That is why we seek constant alignment with those responsible for sending this information,” he said.

Ana Paula Sene, Secretary of the Information Technology area at Odebrecht S.A., emphasized the importance of the meeting: “In addition to clarifying questions about certain procedures, we had the opportunity to meet those people with whom we work and from whom we receive support on a daily basis.”

It means respecting nature, man and life. The country’s work teams are making efforts to value and improve people’s living conditions, contributing toward the development of the communities located near the developments, based on the concepts, principles and criteria of the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO) and the Organization’s Sustainability Policy.

In the area of influence of the Piedra Blanca - Cruce de Ocoa Highway Reconstruction Project, located in the Province of San José de Ocoa, a program was created with aims of contributing toward

the sustainable development of the community of Loz Martínez.

The initiative involves integrated actions that are oriented by three fundamental focuses: generation of income (Inclusion), support for the formal school system (Education) and care with health and the environment (Recycling and Reforestation).

The work has been completed as part of a joint effort with the La Nueva Esperanza Women’s Association, the La Vencedora Men’s Association and the Development Board for the Community of Los Martínez and San José de Ocoa Association for Development, benefitting 50 families and 205 people.

The program Entre en la Red (“Get Online”), which was implemented at one of the community’s teaching institutions, gives children, youth and adults free computer and Internet access

income through different initiatives. One of these is the expansion of a beekeeping project, headed by the La Nueva Esperanza Women’s Association: a total of 17 double beehives will be installed for the production of honey, which together with the 13 that already exist, will make a total of 30 production units. Another 20 units should also be received by the association at a later date.

There was also the definition of a brand and label for the honey packaging – available in the 250-ml and 500-ml sizes –, in order to drive the final product sale process. The company also supported the construction of a new stove and the reconstruction of the stove that had been damaged by storms, for a total of six in the community – three of which are operated by the La Nueva Esperanza Women’s

Association and three by the La Vencedora Men’s Association.

In order to support the formal school system and promote the access to technology, three computers with wireless routers and a printer were donated through the program Entre en la Red (“Get Online”). The new IT Center at the Los Martínez Elementary School is designed for the students to use during school hours and also for community use outside school hours, and also offers Internet access at positions located near the teaching institution.

The tradition of promoting good practices to preserve the environment is a characteristic feature of Los Martínez and is being reinforced through the installation of a curbside garbage collection system that uses plant-derived organic waste to produce organic fertilizer through

worm composters. The organic residue of plant origin is reused for the production of fertilizer by compounds produced by earthworm. The product is then used in the community produce greenhouses. Accordingly, six different collection points were established, distributed throughout all of the areas of the community.

The conservation of the region’s natural resources – forest, aquifers and soil – has been benefitted through the planting of wood trees, such as the Creole Mahogany, Creole Pine and Cedar, and with the cultivation of species of meliferous flora, designed to increase the availability of food for the bees.

Learning while Having Fun To encouraging reading and promoting issues related to traffic and environmental education together with the young public, the Rota do Atlântico Concessionaire – Odebrecht Transport asset – participated in the 9th Pernambuco International Book Biennial.

The event was held from October 4-13 in the city of Olinda. The stand of Concessionaire was developed in partnership with the Pernambuco State Department of Traffic (DETRAN) and promoted different actions and playful games. One of them was an educational game that is part of the Citizenship on the Road Program, developed by the Rota do Atlântico. The group dynamic addresses topics such as environmental preservation; correct disposal of garbage and its reuse; respect for animals; road safety tips and respect for traffic laws. Each player received a kit with a brochure with educational

tips on traffic and the environment and a memory game.

Another attraction was a panel in the shape of a car, which represents the Citizenship on the Road Program brand, where children could pose for photos. Also participating in the action was the Beep-Beep Group, which consists of educator artists from DETRAN-PE, who led and livened up the games. The stand also offered virtual educational games and a space for drawing.

The Citizenship on the Road program began in March 2013, and since then, seven editions have been held. The initiative is structured into three topics: education, safety and health. With each edition, activities are developed designed to encourage, raise awareness, educate and integrate the population that lives in the communities located near the concession, in the Suape Highway Complex, together with the users who commute along the highway.

Cultural and Historical Recovery On October 7, the Enseada do Paraguaçu community in Bahia celebrated one of the most important dates for its residents: the day of Our Lady of the Rosary. This year, during the traditional procession that passes through the city’s streets, the patron saint, which is preceded by images of Saint Benedict of Cairu and Saint Roque, earned the company of Saint Bartolomeu – whose image was granted by the Maragojipe Church. Hundreds of people followed the procession, including Members of the Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP), who were allowed to get off work early to participate in the celebration.

The high point of the event was the reinauguration of the church, the main heritage of the village, restored by EEP. “A bit of perfume always stays on the hands of those who offer roses, said Dona Bite, one of the local leaders, in her thanks to the company.

According to Caroline Azevedo, Sustainability Manager at EEP and the professional responsible for the initiative, completing the restoration was one of the ways of showing respect for people

and for the territory where EEP began to operate in 2010. “Whenever we arrive to a new place, we need to ask permission to enter, and before anything else, learn to listen to the residents and understand local customs,” said Azevedo. “That is why seeing a collective desire become a real action brings so much joy,” she said.

Silvio Zen, Installation Director at EEP, revealed the level of contentment with the remodeling of the church and says he hopes it is possible to bring other projects to the region: “The idea is to improve the community’s quality of life,” said Zen. The Maragojipe Mayor, Vera da Saúde, highlighted the company’s efforts and said that she is ready for new partnerships that will benefit residents.

In addition to the structural maintenance and painting work, two new spaces were erected during the 10 months of construction work: the Bell House and an accommodation suite for the priest. With the replacement of the doors and windows, the ventilation and lighting at the site were elevated. Besides that, the furniture was renewed. And the new anti-skid flooring helped improve the visitors’ safety.

Partnerships to Qualify Youth The CEO of Alstom Brasil, Marcos Costa, visited the teaching units and cooperatives associated with PDCIS in September: “I was extremely happy to hear the reports of those who are learning in practice what it means to be an entrepreneur”

Seeking to qualify and develop youth in the area of Tourism in the municipality of Nilo Peçanha, located in the Bahia Southern Lowlands – one of the state’s richest regions in terms of ecological and cultural biodiversity –, the Alstom Foundation signed a Cooperation Agreement with the Southern Lowland Sustainable Development Institute (IDES) and the Odebrecht Foundation. The idea is to encourage co-responsibility for the development of its communities and influence in terms of building the cultural identity and defining local public policies.

The action is the result of yet another partnership formed between the Bahia Southern Lowlands Environmental Protection Area Mosaic Program for Development and Growth Integrated with Sustainability (PDCIS), of which IDES is part, and supported by the Odebrecht Foundation and public and private partners. For four years, the company has directed a portion of its Income Tax to PDCIS through Tribute to the Future – a program that allows for the investment in actions that bring

high quality education and opportunities for the professional development to talented individuals in the Southern Lowlands.

Established in September of this year during a visit to the region by the CEO of Alstom Brasil, Marcos Costa, the initiative will receive investments of € 80,000 and will promote heritage expeditions that seek to diffuse and add value to regionalization efforts, involving both residents and recognizing leaders up to age 18 for training in the area of Tourism.

There will be the promotion of workshops about the importance of local material and immaterial heritage. “The project is focused on strengthening the region and is geared toward children and adolescents,” clarified Liliana Leite, Executive Director of IDES. According to Clóvis Faleiro Jr., from the Institutional Relations area at Odebrecht and Leader of Tribute to the Future, the support of partners helps build a relationship of trust with this public. “Together, we are effectively contributing toward social transformation in the lives of many youth in the Southern Lowlands,” said Faleiro Jr.

João Brocchi inspired others to become Hit the Net students. The program openings in Valinhos have all been filled and there is a waiting list to form new classes

At age 92, retiree João Brocchi is the oldest student to join the digital inclusion program Hit the Net developed by the Rota das Bandeiras Concessionaire in rural São Paulo. Since October, he completed his first clicks on the computer of a classroom opened up at the Valinhos Municipal Library.

His relationship with the world of computers began four years ago, after his wife passed away. To help him cope with his sadness, he began

writing letters to her. Encouraged by his family, he created a blog, but not being familiar with how to use the computer, he depended on his grandchildren to help him administer it. “I know how to write on the computer, but someone needed to save it and then post it on the blog,” explained.

“Now, I do it all myself,” he said.

On the very first day of class, Brocchi demonstrated his dedication and interest in learning to use the computer efficiently.

Promoting the Relationship between the Student and the Company On September 26 and 27, the Federal Fluminense Institute (IFF) held the fourth edition of the fair Show Yourself, which promotes the approximation between students and companies through an exchange of knowledge and experiences. The event took place in Campos, Rio de Janeiro, and Odebrecht Oil and Gas was one of the participants.

Preserving Panamanian Biodiversity The expansion project at the Tocumen International Airport, currently being completed by Odebrecht Infrastructure in Panama, is designed to give the country’s main airport terminal the necessary infrastructure and logistics conditions to increase the current service capacity by 15 million passengers, estimated for the year 2022.

To start the construction work, the Environmental Impact Study (EIS) was developed and approved by the National Environmental Authority (ANAM). The EIS identified a great biotic diversity within the 1,234-hectare area, identified as zone of influence. The flora and fauna biodiversity preservation became one of the development’s main objectives.

After that, the Sustainability team elaborated the Wildlife Recovery and Relocation program, designed to detect and capture the highest possible number of live animals found near the construction work.

A fauna rescue group is responsible for the nature tours to observe animals, trails, locate dens, nests, young species and those with little mobility and movement.

The captured species are submitted to a detailed analysis by a veterinarian specializing in wildlife, who certifies the animal’s state of health and then later sends it to the Camino de Cruces National Park – coordinated by ANAM. Another front of work for the program is the careful handling of the vegetation existing in the area, with characteristics of agricultural and urban infrastructure activities. A total of 161 species, some of them are of special protection, which were placed in nurseries and generated seedlings to grown later. As a result, there was the planting of 864 species and 109 orchids were collected.

Surprise Visitor

It is believed that the strong currents and winds caused the penguin to deviate from its route

The Barra do Furado Logistics and Industrial Complex, located in Rio de Janeiro – currently being built by the Terra e Mar Consortium, headed by Odebrecht Infrastructure –, received an unexpected visitor: a penguin of the species Spheniscus Magellanicus (Magellanic Penguin) appeared on the beach located near the construction work.

Rescued by the Members, the animal was apparently exhausted and injured.

The consortium’s Sustainability team performed the initial procedures and sent the penguin to an institution that works with marine rescue operations, where it received special care, and after recovery, was released back into the ocean.

Helena Barreto, Member of the Sustainability team, pointed out that it is common this time of year to see penguins get lost and separated from their group and reach the beach. “Our work is to rescue the animals, offer assistance and return them safely to their natural habitat.”

Sustainability between the Lines The Enseada do Paraguaçu Shipyard (EEP) launched the first volume of the Sustainability Collection focused on the topic Waste during a lecture geared toward shellfish harvesters in São Roque do Paraguaçu.

The publication is one of the actions included under the EEP Environmental Education and Social Communication programs and strives to develop themes that are relevant to natural and human resource management. The elaboration of the collection’s six volumes was coordinated by the Sustainability area, which is led by Manager Caroline Azevedo.

“We distribute a brochure for a Believe group, since our expectation is for this to awaken among Members and their families the responsibility that they all have when it comes to local sustainable development as part of the mission to produce today thinking about future generations,” explained Sandra Lima Costa, responsible for the Social Responsibility area at EEP. During the meeting that gathered 31 shellfish harvesters from São Roque do Paraguaçu, instructions were given about the correct disposal of materials and recycling of solutions to deal with the problem of garbage, some of which even constitute a source of income. In the end, participants received the brochure entitled Waste, together with the first edition of the newspaper Navegando Juntos (“Navigating Together”).
