B
urton, Ohio is in the middle of Geauga County not far from the shores of Lake Erie. The area is well known for its lush farmland and friendly people including the 4th largest Amish community in the World. Beginning the first Sunday in March their trees will be tapped, sap gathered and boiled, pancakes and sausage cooked, and coffee brewed for thousands of people who for 64 years have made this a yearly tradition. In October the Apple Butter Festival becomes the main attraction in this quaint village. Steaming copper kettles provide the wonderful aroma of apple butter being made! The grounds are filled with pony rides, picnic games along with gifts, fine arts, crafts, and antiques. In between these celebrations, the town opens every Wednesday, from May thru September, to the cruising community. Historic Main Street comes alive with the rumble and roar of vintage vehicles and the foot tapping music of the 50’s and 60’s.

The Coffee Corners Antiques and Coffee House has been the primary sponsor of cruise night and sort of anchors the event with its great location leading into the village square. They serve fresh roasted specialty coffees, espresso, lattes, mochas, cappuccino, jet tea smoothies, chai, and a variety of fresh teas from Tame Your Tiger Tea. Cookies, muffins, and scones are baked fresh daily. I went to Coffee Corner for something to eat and ordered a huge Reuben sandwich and Jalapeno Mocha Latte Smoothie to wash it down! - Smokin’ yummy! David Pounds, aka: Crazy Dave, kept things moving along and filled the air with nostalgic tunes. The road in this area is extremely wide which allows for angled parking resulting in plenty of room for parking and walking around the vehicles. There is even a wide space between the sidewalks and the street where those attending are free to set down their lawn chairs. Cruises are a fantastic opportunity to catch up on what is happening with your gearhead friends. Did I mention there are also shade trees? Some of the nearby businesses open their parking lots for additional parking space. Burton was settled in 1798 and is Geauga County’s oldest and first official settlement. You certainly need to visit this unique and historic town to check out what it has to offer. While you are at it, plan that visit for a Wednesday evening and bring along your hot rod too! Totowa NJ Car Show Big Hit in 2021 Photos and story by John McCartney
F
or the second straight year the Wells Fargo parking lot located on Union Blvd. in Totowa, New Jersey was filled to the brim with all sorts of cool cars. Once again the Totowa New Jersey Car show allowed car lovers of all ages and backgrounds to get together to enjoy a great Sunday out checking out tons of cool cars. All the proceeds from the show going to The Totowa Board of Recreation to further allow for great events in the Totowa area. Being located on a major road, the Wells Fargo bank parking lot was the idea fit to have a great car show. With tons of wide open space which gave car lovers to bring out their cars and stay social distance which seems to be the norm in these days of Covid to fits well in the states guidelines for all outside events. In addition all that attended did their part by wearing a face covering which no doubt allowed everyone to have a great time with their fellow car lovers. With the show being opened to all cars, trucks and motorcycles of all years and models there was something for everyone to check out and enjoy. Whether you enjoyed Corvettes they were well represented with many of the years covered from classic sixties, seventies all the way up to the brand new models. Modern Muscle was represented as well in the forms of new Dodges, Chevy’s, Fords all on display. If you liked your muscle a little older you could check out the classic vintage muscle in the form of vintage body styles made famous back in the late sixties and early seventies. If you really wanted to step back into the time machine then you had a great selection of antiques, customs, hot rods, and stock production rides from back in the day. During the run of the show judges checked out all the cars that were entered to pick out the best of the best. At the end of the show some cool trophies were handed out in each class with the top three taking home one of these trophies for those cars that stood out a little bit above all the rest. The NJ Totowa Car Show proves to be a great way to have a fun Sunday checking out cars and spending time with friends and family. All this while at the same time raising money to help out The Totowa Board of Recreation to support and put on shows throughout the year. With the second annual Totowa Car Show in the books folks can look forward to number three coming up next year in 2022, make sure if your are in around the Totowa, New Jersey area you take a drive out to take part in the event whether with your car or your family and have a great day out in the car community you will not be sorry. ~John

R.C. and Kim’s 1939 Ford Coupe Madison, OH. I was taking a drive the other day and I couldn’t pass up this shot when I came across this caboose in Grand River, Ohio. This is my 1939 Ford Coupe. I purchased this car in Temperance Michigan at the age of 71 in 2017 from a gentleman’s widow who owned it for 55 yrs. The car was an A/Gasser from 1953 to the mid 60s.Then build into a street rod in 1968. He drove it all over the United States including New Mexico racking up 25,000 miles on the car. The car still carries the paint, wheels and the 350 engine that he put in it in 68. It has it fair share of stone chips and rattles but I wouldn’t change a thing!

John’s 1937 Plymouth PT50 Brunswick, OH. This is my very rare 1937 Plymouth PT50. I bought this truck in July 2020 as a bone stock all original pickup but l had a vision for this truck. The following month the Hot Rod project began, l can’t drive something with only 70 horsepower! I acquired a 392 HEMI from a 1958 Chrysler New Yorker, four speed transmission from a 68 Roadrunner and a Dana 60 rear-end. I had a pro/street frame built and got busy! With help from many of my friends, the engine was rebuilt and shoehorned into my little half ton truck. Nine months later l had a finished product! The body remains 90% original but the frame and drivetrain give me the ability to drive it anywhere. Thanks to Hot Heads Racing and Research, Koffel’s Place for machining the block and Busy Bee Muffler for the custom exhaust.
