CONTEXT Promotion is important for a new product or an event. Design Task 5 A group of students in your school have formed a band and want a complete set of publicity material for their future events. The set must include a CD Case which has a minimum of four folding panels containing any number of CD’s and relevant information. The panels can fold in any direction and could hold a combination of CDs. Promotional material should also contain an item which incorporates a smart or modern material.
Target Market: The age range of the customers who will be buying my product is around12 – 35, because older adults would not normally listen to this type of music and that is the same for younger people. For my product I will focus on females more than males because of the type of music however it will appeal to both genders. My initial potential customers will live around Morpeth as my band is based in Morpeth but this music could spread across England. Due to the language barrier and expense of advertising the album overseas it‟s unlikely to be sold across seas. The music would be mainly listened to in cities. The customers could have a very wide range of jobs for example a fashion designer also they could be unemployed and just live at home. The main type of occupation is school as they are teenagers and are not old enough to have a job. The general likes my customers would have are that everything they wear, do and listen to would be main stream and they like parties and concerts. The dislikes for my customers would be that they do not like hard rock and punk music also they do not like typical nights in. The typical customer wants a good CD with good songs and a well designed CD cover which would be colourful and vibrant. My product will have the most recent song and an eye catching CD cover so that they are tempted to buy the CD. The most common design requirement is that the cover is vibrant pop looking. The factors that my potential customers are likely to consider before buying the product are right songs on and the right price. My customers value that my company is very kind and our products are affordable for young adults that may not have a job. My customer will find out about this product by advertisement through posters, TV adverts, Facebook, and on the radio. Previous customers have said that they really like my product as they can afford it and also they said that the music was very up to date. The cost influences whether the customer will buy, as if the price is too high then they will spend their money elsewhere. My customers can contact me by phone, email, Facebook, post, in store and online. Customer Profile: My name is Jane and I am 14, I go to The School in England. I live in a hoose. When I leave school I would like to be a fashion designer or a model. I like hanging out with my friends and going shopping to Holister and Jack Wills. I do not like loud heavy music. I get £10 a week pocket money and I like to spend that on going to parties and concerts with my friends. I sometimes buy a CD, I like a good well designed CD that is graphically made.
What I Learnt? This page helped me to understand what I had to do and create throughout the project. On this slide I have reviewed what type of customers my product is aimed at and what type of stuff they like.
Hi I am Jane Jones and I am going to be popping up a lot in this project to give my thoughts on this work.
What I Learnt?
On this page I learnt what type of graphical products I could use to advertise my band. This page also got me thinking how much work I had to do and so I could work out how much time I had to do it in a lesson.
I plan to make, do and analyse a poster and a four fold CD using acceess FM. I also plan to do a disassembly where I will explain about glue tabs and describe the die cutter and what it is used for. Then I plan to make a mood board which will help me think of ideas for the logo. After that I will make an image board which will have good poster designs and tickets to help me design my own tickets and posters which will give me ideas.
Aesthetics: The product is bright and pink. It stands out, but more for women than men. It has lots of information but not irrelevant information, also it is very easy to read as the white really stands out on the pink background and the writing is in bold. The colours blend in to make a girly, pop feel. The visual impact of this product is strong because of the clear image and the banner with the date and where it is really catches your attention. The information at the bottom of the poster does not really attract your interest as it is white and black which is boring and the font size is tiny and really hard to read. There are only three main colours on this whole poster, the three colours are white, black and different shades of pink. The white really stands out on the different shades of pink and the writing really stands out. As there is no specific logo, just her name in white writing in a signature type font, the name stands out and it is recognisable and widely known around the world. The font chosen is easy to read as it is not to small and it is in a handwritten style of font almost like a signature. There is no surface decoration on my poster as it is just digitally printed. Client: The target market for this product is around 13 year olds to 30 year olds. The customer will like pop music and will follow the charts. They are most likely to be girls but some boys will also like this music and buy tickets to the concert. Cost: As this is a poster that is on the wall to advertise the concert there is not a price for the poster. I think that it would be relatively cheap to make as it is quite simple in terms of graphical editing. I think it would have cost around ÂŁ500 for 1000 posters. Environmental: It is made out of recyclable material, but I do not think that is made from reclaimed materials. There is definitely minimal packaging used for this product. The product cannot be reused as it is paper. Ergonomics: It is easy to use however it could be easier to use by not having the information about HMV giving a wristband to people. The poster allows you to easily see when and where she is playing. The product suits its user by the background being pink and the main audience of this singer is women and girls and pink is a very girly colour. The customer uses the product to find out information about the concert e.g. timing and place. It is an appropriate size and weight however the shape could be more unusual to make it stand out more however this may increase the cost. Safety: This product is very safe as it does not have any sharp edges but you could get a paper cut from the poster. There is not many different components of this product as it is just printed from the computer. There are also no lose components on this product and it is safe for children. There is no safety consideration for the end user. Size: The shape of the product is an oblong and the size of it is A3-A0. This is the normal size for a poster that is adverting a concert. This is big enough to catch peoples attention and it will stand out on the wall. Function: The function of this product is to inform people of the concert and tell them the time and place. The purpose of this product is to get lots of people to see Carly Rae Jepson at the concert. It definitely does itâ€&#x;s job properly. It only has one function which is to get people to go to the concert. Materials: This product is made of paper and plastic the plastic is so when it is outside in the rain it does not get ruined. Printer ink is also one of the materials in this product as it would have been digitally printed. There are not a lot of different materials in this product.
What I Learnt?
On this page I have learnt about what each letter in acceess FM means and what you would write for each letter I have also learnt what the customer expects of the product. I found out what my poster needs to look like and I could see what information was usually on a poster. I also gained ideas about brushes and typography
Aesthetics: The product I am looking at is a very colourful and eye catching four fold CD. I think that this product stands out for women and men. The title of the cd really stands out to its audience. It is very clear to read as it is in a bold, black and white font. It feels like the cd would be cheerful and bright. It is very interesting how on CD I and CD 2 the picture on the front of the cd packing is split in half throughout the two CDs. The visual impact on this cd cover is strong because of the colourful background and then the plain white and black cd title. On the cd the visual impact is that is colourful balls from the cd cover are then linked into the cd around the edge and each cd has a different colour. There are three main colours throughout the cd and packaging. The three colours are bright yellow, red and blue. The logo of this product is the name “Ministry of Sound” around in a circle with a crow at the top. This logo is recognisable and well known all around the world. The font that is in the front of the cd packaging and the logo and font type for the CDs is very easy to read it ad is the right size for the front of the CD. There is no surface area decoration on this product. There is also no unique visual features on this product. Client: The target market for this product is around 25 year olds to 50 year old. There people that are buying this product will like 80's Pop, New Romantic, Rock type of music. The customer is more likely to be male then female for this product because of the type of music. Cost: The exact selling price of this four fold CD is £12 from HMV. I think that it would cost around £6 to make taking into account how much it would cost for the cd itself and the plastic cd case and then there is making the songs on top of that. I think that if the design was more simple it would be cheaper to make. You could make it simpler by making the whole thing out of card. Environment: I do not know whether the cd package is made from reclaimed material but I think that it would not be made from reclaimed material. The whole product is recyclable. I think that there are minimal materials used as there is not a big box for a small product. I think that the cd cases will be able to be reused as you could just take the little book out and put in a different cd. Ergonomics: The product is easy to use but it is quite hard to get the two cd cases back in the packaging. This product suits its user as it is kept in good condition by the packaging and it is easy to stack as you can see from the spine what cd it is. The customer uses the product to listen to music. The cd cover and packaging are an appropriate size and shape and weight for what they are. Safety: The product is safe as there is not really sharp edges but you could trap you finger in the sides of the cd case. There are quite a lot of components to this cd e.g. the cd, case and then the packaging of the cases. This product is reasonably safe for children to use. The safety considerations for the end user are the sharp edges and how easy it is to open and close. Size: The shape of this product is a rectangle and the size of this cd case is 13cm by 15 cm. This is an average size for a cd case. Function: This product allows people to listen to music though a cd player. The purpose of this product is to advertise Ministry of Sound and also to make money from the customer who is buying the product. It definitely does its job properly. It only has one function which is to allow people to listen to music. Materials: The product is made from card, plastic, paper, ink ,polycarbonate plastic with a thin layer of aluminium.
Photographs by Mr Bryant What I Learnt? On this page I have learnt about what each letter in acceess FM means and what you would write for each letter I have also learnt what the customer expects of the product. I learnt what I could achieve when designing a four fold CD package. What was really helpful was the fact I could see how it fits together with the four panels.
I am analysing a graphical product to help me understand what a product can look like before it is glued together. This net is made from card and ink from a printer it is then cut out by a die cutter. This is a picture of inside the box . It is all white because it would be a waste of ink if it was all in yellow because you are not going to see it. All of the name and logos are on one side because when the packaging is glued together you will not see the inside so it would be a waste of a picture or logo. As you can see it is not in a square shape because there are lots of tabs which is how it sticks together. The glue tabs are where the arrows are pointing. These glue tabs are used to make it nice and neat when it is glued together and it also makes it easier. The material they have used is card. They have used this material in this product because paper is not as strong and also if paper gets wet it will just break. Card is also very cheap and easy to cut out with the die cutter. All the information is on one side so when it is glued together you can see it all. Some packages have windows in the card and this is so that when it is on the shelf you can see the product that you are buying. This is a really good idea but it will not work on this product as it is so small and also the way that you lift the top to access the product if its feature. The front has a main image to advertise the product and contains all necessary logos and symbols. The front is kept simple and most of the information about the product is on the back. The image on the front of the package informs the customers of what they are purchasing. On the front of the net there is a barcode that does not get in the way of any main selling images.
Photographs by Mr Bryant
What I Learnt? On this page I have learnt what I have to include in my CD packaging to make it successful and what a die cutter is and what it does also about glue tabs. I now know not to waste ink and colour the whole thing in. Also all the aspects on a package that you donâ€&#x;t usually notice.
This is a small die cutter, you usually use this size of die cutter in School. These are really good when you are wanting a lot of the exact same net design. It is a lot easier than trying to cut out 100 of the exact same thing. It can cut right through paper and also it can make it as a fold line.
What I Learnt? On this page, I learnt lots of different brushes and textures and placed them on Photoshop to create an effective composition. This helped me a lot with my project as I could think of a lot of logo ideas from different parts of my mood board.
This mood board is good as all the images go with the genre of pop as it is bright and also it have lots of images so it will be easier to come up with logo ideas.
What I Learnt? This page really helped me with my project as I could see what techniques professionals use when they are designing a advertising products. The page also helped me with choosing what font and colours I could use in my products.
Primary Colours: These are Blue, Yellow and Red these colour can not be produce by the mixing of other colours. These colours are the colours that are mixed together to make any other colour, so they are the base colour for any colour in the colour wheel. Secondary Colours: These are Orange, Green, Purple. You get these colours from mixing two primary colours together. Secondary colours are completely different to primary colours e.g. Blue + Red =Purple these colours are the second colour on the wheel. Tertiary Colours: These are the colour that are in between they are produce by mixing primary colour and secondary colours together. For example yellow and orange or green and blue. These colour are very similar. Foe example you could have light blue and also dark blue. These colours tend to be earthy colours. Harmonising Colours: These are the colours that are next to each other on the colour wheel these colour work quite well together on a scheme of work. For example a red back ground with orange writing. These colour are very similar to each other.
Complementary Colours: These are the colours that are opposite each other on the colour wheel these colour work very well with each other. These colours also make each other stand out . Another name is Contrasting Colours. They are also used together in Colour Therapy to give balance. For example Purple and Yellow and also Blue and orange.
What I Learnt?
This page helped me with my project as I could see how I could blend colours and tones together in an attractive way, and I could analyse the colour wheel in depth to find colours that would suit my theme. I could see which fonts suited my band name, and which did not. I could also see which ones fitted with each colour scheme .
Colour Association: Different colours
mean different things through this you can make your product really eye-catching. Also if you use colour in the right way you can show felling through it for example Red can show anger as well and romance. Bright colour represent warmth where as pastel colours represent more peaceful colours. Yellow: cheerful, warming, joy, sunshine, brightness , feeling, honour, freshness, energy, good felling, jealousy, decay, sickness, intellect, summer, happiness, hope, intelligence, light , loyalty, vitality and study. Orange: pride, energy, friendship, success, opportunities, excitement, joy, fire, happiness, creativity, success, encouragement, hotness,, harvest and autumn Red: anger, death, romance, love, Christmas, sunset, chilli, blood, warning and strength. I really like all of my fonts and choices of colour Black: evil, strength, authority, velvet, night, darkness, silence, respect, aggressive, power, as they all reflect my target audience and it is what my customers would what to see in this death, thin, unknown, mystery.
Blue: sea, cold, sky, chilled, water, wisdom, freedom, trust, sadness, calmness, confidence, depth, softness, masculine, air, heaven, confidence, loyalty, intelligent, wisdom and truth. White: snow, clouds, pure, ghostly, empty, surrender, safety cleanness, beginning, successful, coolness, light, goodness, angels, doctors and also dairy products.
Green: growth, luck, jealousy, nature, peace, hope, money, health, banking, medical, ambition, restfulness, safety, spring, earth, grass and fertility. Purple: dreams, rich, wealth, faith, majesty, creativity, magic, children, independence, romance, depressed, artificial, energy, wisdom and mystery.
product. I like the last one as these are harmonising colours the second one is also harmonising. I also think that the typography is unusual they are not just the normal plain font they have a feature i.e. the swirls.
I think that all of these fonts are good as they go with the genre and the colours work with the typography . My best font is the bottom one.
Materials & Tools
Advantages
Disadvantages
Where in my product?
Health and safety
Phosphores cent
It‟s a SMART material and it will give an interesting effect.
Sticking it on could look bad and it‟s also expensive.
I will use this on my wristband or poster.
Might be sharp and could give you a paper cut.
Vinyl
It comes in different colours and makes the product look attractive.
This is not easily to cut is it is advised to use a plotter cutter and these are expensive.
This will be used on the four fold CD.
You will have to be careful when cutting this product out.
Laminate
It gives the product a shine which looks professional. Also, it will protect and make it waterproof.
If you do not have a laminator it is very hard to do and these are quite expensive.
I will use this on my flyer.
You might get a paper cut and the laminator could get very hot.
Grey Card
This is sturdy, which is really good for the product I am making. Looks nicer than cardboard.
Card is easily ripped by hand and water will damage it. Also it is not as good as cardboard.
I will use for my poster, tickets, and the main product the four fold CD.
You might get a paper cut using this product.
Craft Knife
Easier to use than scissors and cuts materials easily.
It might not be as accurate since I haven‟t used it before.
I will use it to cut the all the different materials.
It‟s quite sharp and you could cut yourself.
Safety ruler
This product has a dint in so it is easier to grip on to. It is better than a normal ruler without the grove
When using this tool it might be hard to see the measurements and it might scratch your work .
I will use this when using the craft knife.
This tool is very safe as it has a ridge in the top for you to put your fingers so you don‟t cut them off.
Cutting mat
This is really good as it stops the desks from getting scratched and damaged.
I do not think there is any disadvantages to a cutting mat.
When ever I use the craft knife I will use the cutting mat.
When you are cutting be careful not to cut yourself.
Glue stick
Glue sticks are very easy to use, and very cheap to buy.
The glue is not very strong so they do not stick things to each other very well.
To stick my CD cover and other products together.
When using a glue stick, it can be harmful to sniff inhale the fumes.
Computer and soft ware
This is good as software like Photoshop lets you do quite a lot of graphical aspects.
If you do not have word, Photoshop and a computer then it is very expensive to buy.
I will use this all time in this project because
The computer is bad for your eyes sight so you should take a rest every hour.
What I Learnt? This page really helped me with my project as I could see what materials and tools I need to use in my product. I also learnt what each of the materials are used for and the advantages and disadvantages for each of them.
Ethical issues: An ethical issue is a certain issue that may offend certain groups of the society or even a whole country. A CD could go on sale worldwide, so you need to check for any ethical issue you product might have. Ethical issues would not apply to all groups. When I design my product, I will make sure I do not include any offensive language to make sure I get the most sales I can. Environmental issues: I need to make sure my cd packaging is as environmentally friendly as possible. Although I cannot make every think environmentally friendly like checking whether the materials are from sustainable sources e.g. Sustainable forests, I will make sure I use the least of all the materials e.g. I will not waste any paper when making my product. This will save money and be better for the environment. Fair Trade: This is where the farmers are paid the right amount of money for how hard they work. The company fair trade aim to improve the lives an living condition of countless people in the world. The products that have completed the fair trade conditions are allowed to put the logo on there product this is good as people are prepared to pay more when they know it is fair trade. There are many product they you can buy that are fair trade like Bananas, tea, cotton and many more. Carbon Footprint: this is caused by the carbon emissions by everyone everyday. This should be kept very low. A carbon footprint is the “footprint on Global warming. I will be thinking about this when making my product by using as little electricity as possible. Recycling: this is where you put different types of material in different bin in your homes you do this so materials from a product like a metal can to make many more new products. Then the stuff that can not be recycled goes in the other bin. It is very important to use recycled materials as it is not very environmentally friendly to keep using new materials. Unfortunately, I may be using recycled paper in my final product depending on school resources. Copyright: this is where people use other peoples work so if you copyright something this stops the person being allowed to copy it. I will not need to worry about this though as my product will not be for commercial use so this means I can get pictures and text from Google and Dafont without worrying about whether it is copyright or not. If I was mass producing my products then I would need to take my own picture or apply for copy right. I will make sure not of the things I use on my products are copy right as I will create them all myself. Sustainability: I will make sure I include materials from sustainable resources in my project as much as I can as I know it is very important. For example to make sure we do not run out of wood every time a sustainable company cuts one tree down they would plant another two. Being sustainable is very good for the environment and it also make the world a better place for our future generation as a result of this I will be sustainable when creating my products by trying to use recycles paper with as little waste as possible. Reclaimed materials: this is where they are not recycled they are materials and products that have been used before. Then someone uses that material and males something else out of it. I might use, used material when creating my product it depends on the schools resources. What I Learnt? This page helped me with my project as I could see what environmental issues would affect my product and design. I now know that there are a lot of different issues I will have to consider, but many of them are not written here, as these issues mainly apply to professional graphic designers.
Wastage: I will use as little wastage as possible. For example when I am printing out my different products I will make sure I am leaving as little white space as possible and this will save paper. Green designs: This is a product that does not cause any major effects on the environment. I can use this in my product by only causing minor effects on the environment.
Materials: My main products will be made from card and the wristband will be made from rubber. These materials are really suitable for the products as they are good for the environment and look good on the product. Some of the product might be better if they are waterproof so I would laminate these products. Size and weight: My product CD case will be about 125mm height by 140mm width with 20mm depth the larger box slightly bigger and my CD will be smaller with about 120mm in diameter. The size of my poster will probably about 900mm in height and 610mm in width. However the sizes of my products may vary depending on its size, small, medium or large. My product will be very light so it‟s easy carried around by the customer it should not weight more than 2kg. Aesthetics: my product will look like bright, cheery and will use colour such as neon and pink girly colours. I will chose my typography from my colour theory page it will go with the genre of the music and the colour choices. The logos that I make will stand out amongst others and will be simple. I will have images of the artist(s) and cheerful colours. My product will appeal to the target market in each of these areas because in general people that listen to follow fashion and fashion is bright and cheerful.
Cost: All together it will cost around £4 including the four fold CD, poster and wristband. In shops it should cost around £8 to earn profit. This is value for money as it is cheap and it has very good songs and good quality. this cost is suitable for the target audience as it is cheap and the bands target audience is young and they will not have a job so they will not have lots of money. Function: My four fold CD will be used for listening to music and the poster will be advertising the band, CD and concerts that they do. I think that my poster will do its job very well as it will bring customers to my product and I will then sell more tickets and more CDs. I think that to make my products successful I need to make it eye catching and very bright and colours.
Ergonomics: The product will be a comfortable shape to hold and will be safe to use. Testing: I would test my product on a small group of my friend as they fit target audience age range. I also know that they would tell me honestly one their opinion.. I will also be testing how easily it snap and the strength of the casing. I would test my product on my friend as I need to know whether it works for my customers and also if they like it
What I Learnt? This page helped me with my project as I could see what my product would look like and also the key issues that I need to consider and my target audience. I also found out what size and weight my product was. I then found out the timescale and the deadline for the project to be finished.
Target Market: The target market of my product will be around the age off 12-35 the is because this is the type of music they like to listen to. They are really happy and lively all the time. I think it is countries like USA, Europe and Asia.
Durability: my product if under the right conditions it is expected to last for a long period of time. This is because of the materials the card it think so should not wear easily. The fold should be neat and should stay folded to look professional. Safety: My product is very safe as it does not have any sharp edges or loose parts and it‟s not flammable. There will probably not be any warning labels since it‟s pop music, but occasionally pop music has a „parental advisory.‟ Timescale: December 2013 is the deadline for my whole project that is everything done and it goes to get marked. The average lesson time I will get in the project is 45 hours. The project is split into five different sections. These sections are Investigating the Design Context, Development of Design Proposals, Making, Testing and Evaluation and Communication. Instructions: The four fold CD will not contain instruction as this product is very easy to use. It will contain a booklet which has lyrics, dedications, band members and ways to find out more about the band. Environmental issues: in my project there is little harm to the environment as possible. I will use recyclable products and also when they have been processed the resources are extracted from sustainable forests.
Issues: There is some issues I will need to consider when designing my products it must not be offence in any way. I will not need to worry about copy right as it will be a one off product for school but if I was going to mass produced, I would have to think about copyright laws.
The font and position of the letters were changed so they read from top to the bottom. I also reversed the black and white.
On this logo I developed it by adding a light blue gradient colour it turns from blue to white.
I made each of the keys a different bright colour and left the font the same as the original. What I Learnt? On this page I learnt what colours and fonts go with different designs and what works best. I learnt some new Photoshop skill in the process of developing these idea.
I used coloured musical notes for the background on this logo.
For this development I changed the font to a more detailed musical note version. The position of the font was also changed .
I chose this tunnel as it looks as if the person is walking down into it so it links with the name of my band. I developed it by warping the name and I changing every other letter to a red colour. I also changed it so it was darker using the curves and levels.
I chose this keyboard because it links with music and it looks like steps and people walk up steps, therefore it links with the name of my band. I made the keys darker using curves and levels and then I got my font and used the warp tool to make the writing flow with the keyboard.
I chose these lips because they are very pop looking and they are simple to it will be easy for customer to remember. I added a gradient on the lips so it gets lighter as it going into the mouth. I then added my typography and warped it so in curved with the bottom lip.
I chose this book as i thought that it linked with the name of my band walkin within, since when you concentrate on a book, you get „within‟ a book. To enhance this drawing I added colour and the name of my band and make the letter go smaller as they went into the book so it looks 3D.
I chose this dog as one of my logos as it was a very simple shape so it would easily be remembered as a logo. I made the „walkin within‟ really contrasts with the dog and stands out. I then added the collar to add a bit more detail and also the paws to add more detail.
I chose this eye because I thought it stood out on my moodboard. The text „Walkin Within‟ is within the eye, so it relates to the name of the band. I added a fill colour to the middle of the eye to make it stand out more.
What I Learnt? On this page I learnt what colours go well together. I designed all of them so they linked in with my band name and also some of them link with music as well. This page also help me with the starting point to enhancing my logos to making them look better and more professional.
To change this logo I added foot prints into the dog, then I change the font and position.
For this development I added musical notes into the dog and also changed the font to a dog bone style.
On this logo I developed it by adding black and white stripes and then changed the font and the colour so it would stand out more. What I Learnt? On this slide i learnt new Photoshop skills and also what colours and typography look professional and link with the gene and theme of pop music. I also need to make it simple so customers would remember it.
I changed the font and colour on this dog so it would be simpler and also bolder.
For this last development I added check squares and change the position and style of the font.
For this development added a background of feet to my book and I changed the font and position.
To develop this logo I added a big W to one page because in some books at the start they have a big letter I also changed the position of the font and style.
I deleted the band name from this logo and added it over and over again as if it was the story in the book. I also change the font style.
For my final development I changed the pages in the middle to a whirlpool. The shadow and cover was also changed to different shades of blue.
I added a red background to the paged of the book because red is associated with books I also changed the font, position, colour and style. What I Learnt? On this page I learnt different and interesting ways of changing something to make it look better. I also found out what would work successful on my products and also as an overall logo.

From this I have found out that the worst of my logos was the book everyone said it was a really good design but not very suitable as a logo. Also the book did not really have anything to so with music but it did relate to the name. The best of my designs was the blue keyboard as although it was very simple it would be easily recognised. I really thought that the dog stood out and also related to my band name but it is not very professional.
What I Learnt? On this page I found out what lots of different people thought about my logos. Also by the rating which of my logos was the best and which was the worst.

A CD booklet is used to include song lyrics, Band to and from thank you notes and also images of the band . The materials for this booklet would be card and staples.
A Point of sale stand needs to contain: Product Suitable images Name Gray board It is used to advertise the product so it needs to be eye catching to its target audience.
The front of a CD cover need to contain: Album name Singers name Graphical image Pricing Producer of the CD Thanks to and from the band Booklet inside Images of the band/singer The back of a CD cover needs to contain: Barcode Track list Recording company Over all the materials used are Card, Plastic and ink. It is used to hold the CD and have information.
What I Learnt? On this slide I have learnt the main features that is needed on each individual product to make it successful and appropriate for its audience. I learnt also the sizes of different parts of the products and where everything is meant to go.
A CD needs to contain: Singer name Album name Graphical images Track list Producer Recording company Itâ€&#x;s made from it is used to play the music/songs

I have created I number of net deigns that I could used as my net package. I knew it need to have a minimum of four folds but I wanted to add extra to make my work my complex. To make my work look professional I also wanted to add spines. As you can see I have created six designs. The top design think looks very good however it was very had to make all of the triangles the same size and only one CD would fit in this comfily and to make I look professional I wanted to have 2 CDs in it. The next design is the same I think it look very effective but it was very hard to create the steps so they were the exact same size. I also thing the step doesnâ€&#x;t really link with my work. I also created some isometric drawings of my CD package and this shows my package from a different angle. The rest of my designs I think look very effective but curvy one was very difficult to get the curve perfect and if I did that design and my curve was not smooth I do not think it would look very good and also the 2 CDs would not fit in very well so I decide against this design. For the other two designs in think they look very good but there had too much about them making them quite complicated and also very thick when all put together so it would not be practical for the user. I design that I chose to do was the bottom left one and I did this because it was simple for the use to use and it could fit everything in comfily and also it is not just a boring straight line package.
What I learnt?
This page of net designs show how i began to get more imaginative with my designs, creating more eye catching net designs. This page made me realise that you can create a wide range of designs, that no one else would think of or create.
What I Learnt?
This page shows the modelling of Two net designs and how they would look when actually produced for the final product. It made me understand how the measurements have to be correct the first time when folding the design. All the measurements where correct because, they all folded together perfectly.
Creating mini models of load of different type of designs I could use for my CD packages, this really helped me as I could see want I would look like, whether it was simple to use and also which would be the front and back. The first design I made was just a simple straight four fold design. I thought this was very simple and easy to use but it looked boring. After this I decided that I would make it more interesting so I first made a new one and then cut some triangles out of on of the sides of the package. I thought this looked really good but it was very hard to do so I decided to make it more interesting in a different way, so I added a flap on one side I that was were I would going to put my booklet. Then I added a fold on the other side and it was a triangle I felt this made my design look a little better as it had a extra interactive piece. Another thing that creating these models helped my with was creating spines.
This is my back of my ticket and it is used to be able to get into the concert . For my ticket I changed the paint splats to black and white. I also added the logo and the band name to make the ticket more personal to the band. I included a seating plan so that they knew where their seat was. Another thing that I added to the back was the terms and conditions for buying the ticket. I put on the logos for Facebook and also twitter so they knew where they could follow the band to see what they are up to. I also added the special guests that would be supporting the band. Finally I added a glow effect around the text so that it stood out against all the paint splatters in the background.
This is my poster and it is used to advertise the band showing people when and where they are playing. Like all of my other designs I have used the paint splatters as the background and then added the silhouette of the man and the dog. Once I had done that I put a white box over some of the paint splats so when I added all of the dates and venues it was easy to read. I added the MTV logo as this would act as a sponsor for the band, another thing I included was the logo for virgin records as this is popular record company for pop music. Finally to make it more realistic I added the bands website and also the ticket hotline number so that they could ring to buy tickets.
What I learnt: I learnt many different Photoshop techniques from creating all of my different products . I also learnt about what graphical designs would be on all of the products such as on the ticket you would need to include a barcode.
This is the front of my ticket and it is used so that when people go to see the band they can get in and also they now where they are seating. To start this off I used the paint splats and the silhouette of the man and dog. Then I added the name of the band with the support acts and also where the band was playing and when. Then I added a barcode as this would be the way they would check to see the number of the ticket. After that I added the times that the doors would open and the pricing of the ticket. In this design I then added the information that would go on the side but so when the perforations were snapped they still have the most important information. The next thing that I did to make this design look more realistic was add where the ticket was Purchased and also the logo for where the band is going to play. Finally I added A glow effect to all of the text I did this so the writing stood out more and they could easily read it.
This is my inside of my CD package and this is used to hold the CD and also show which song will be next on the CD. The first thing that I did for this design was add the paint splats this was done by using a number of different brushes on Photoshop(colours add Shape). Then I added a silhouette of a women and changed the bending options. Then to make it stand out I added the glow effect around the girl. I then repeated these steps for another silhouette but this time I added a girl jumping and again I add the glow effect. The second last thin that I did was block out all of the parts o the CD package that i did not need. Finally I add the last silhouette and added the glow effect.
What I Learnt?
I learnt many different Photoshop techniques from creating all of my different products . I also learnt about what graphical designs would be on all of the products such as on the Cd package you would need to include the song lists
This is the outside of my CD package and it is used to hold the CD s. The first thing that I did was add the background of the paint splats onto the cd package. The next thing that I did was add on the name of the band and also put the silhouette of the dog and also the man with the umbrella. After that I added all of the names of the song on to the back cover I also added a barcode as this is what you would see on a real CD package. I then added another silhouette of a women jumping and on this I put a glow effect to make it stand out. i repeated these steps and put another silhouette on and put on the same glow effect. Finally to add some more detail to the flaps that I made, I added an inspirational line .
This is my first CD and this is used to hold all of the song that the band have made. The first thing I did was find a suitable CD template and made sure that it was the right size. I then added a number of different brushes in different sizes and colours. Once I had filled all of the background with these brushes I then added then added the silhouette of the man, with the bands name. finally I added CD 2 so they knew which CD include which songs.

What I Learnt?
This is the inside of my booklet and this is used for a number of things, some of these are where the band says its thanks, also it could be where the song lyrics go to all of the songs on the CDs. I used the same background as I did on all of my other products then added two silhouettes of people with umbrellas which links in with my theme. Finally I added a glow to the silhouettes to make them stand out.

Finally I added the name of the band at the top of the booklet and I added a glow around that to make it stand out.
This is my point of sales stand and it is used in shops to advertise the product in some way it would hold the product or many samples of the product. Again for this I added the paint splats for the background and then the name of the band at the top. I also added the white glow effect behind the writing to make it strand out on the background. Finally to hold my cd I added a black piece of card that stuck out on the front of my design.
This is the back of my flyer and this is used to advertise the band they are usually given out in the street or posted through doors. Firstly I added the paint splats to my design as the background to create a colourful raining effect I then added the logo for the band which is the man and dog silhouette. Finally I added the band name at the top and the white glow effect around that.

CADCAM: This stands for Computed Aided Design and Computed Aided Manufacturing. This is software used to design products such as electronic circuit boards in computers and other devices. There are many advantages and disadvantages to CADCAM. Some of the advantages for CADCAM are: • In large –scale production, the result are consistent. • This enables very high accuracy levels in large –scale production. • Usually speeds up production of low-volume products. The disadvantages of using CADCAM facilities are: • The software itself is expensive so initial costs are high. • Can be slower than traditional methods for one off or low volume production. • Staff need to be trained how to use the software and machinery. This will add to the cost. I am going to included a piece of vinyl to show that I can used 2D deign and also use weeding to move the vinyl from the sticky back to my design. Embossing, by definition, is to mark or decorate a surface with a raised design or symbol. The opposite of embossing is debossing, which is to mark or decorate a surface by creating an indent in the material. An example of where embossing is used is on credit cards for the numbers on the front they stick out of the plastic. Light weight and heavy coated papers are not good for embossing as they will easily crack. The depth and the degree of bevel achieved are determined by the thickness. The thicker the card can offer more dramatic embossing effects because the impression can push deeper into the card and varying levels of relief become possible. Embossing is very simple and very cost effective. The way I am going to get my 2D design from the computer to my package is print my design off using a plotter cutter then carefully remove the excess vinyl and then stick my design onto my work.
This is an example of embossing
This is an example of a vinyl design.
This is an example of a hologram.
Modern and Smart materials: A Smart material is a material where by the properties can change. A Morden material dose not react to its surroundings but it is a new material that has been created with in the last 50 years. I am going to use an example of one smart and one Morden material. The example of a Morden material that I am going to use is a hologram I have decided to use this as it will make my work look more realistic as there are many different ticket that use a hologram. A hologram is used so that they know it is not a fake ticket. The smart material that I might use in my work is glow in the dark material. I might use think in my work as it will make some parts of my work stand out. I will stick my hologram on my ticket as this is where many bands would put the hologram they do this to make sure there are no fake tickets to the concert. I might stick the glow in the dark material onto my point of sales stand. This is a plotter cutter. A plotter cutter is a computer printer for printing vector graphics. It can cut out the same shape over and over again and it would very accurate.
Laminate: to laminate is to overlay (a flat surface) with a layer of plastic or some other protective material. There are a couple of different types of laminating machines. The hot laminating machine come in to different type one of these are the large film type this is used for bug or many items at once. The machine is turned on to heat up and the items are placed on the bottom sheet of clear laminate. A roller near the heat mechanism holds the top layer of laminate. When the machine is turned on the rollers pull the bottom layer forward as the top layer is rolled out simultaneously. The heating mechanism seals the two layers together wherever they touch, sealing the item inside. I am going to laminate my ticket to make the card have a shiny look.
I am going to create the effect of embossing by putting some of my logos into my work. As shown below the program „2D Design‟ has been used to create a section of the original logo design which has then been cut out using the „Plotter Cutter‟. Vinyl has been used and this design has then been stuck onto one of the point of sales stands. This is an example of how I am going to create that effect.
This is my final design the reason I have put all of my work on to the one document as that it was easier for the printer to print off all my work. Another reason for packing it all together to tightly was because this will save paper and therefore saving money and the planet. This is known as tessellation.
What I Learnt? This page shows how the development of the CD packaging, both inside and outside. It shows the colours and the design of the CD packaging. I have also included all the relevant information onto the design on Photoshop. It has made me realise all the information to include onto the final design.

These are the processes that I went through to make my final products. Some of theses are printing out the nest and them cutting out roughly, then using a craft knife to make all of the edges as neat as possible. Next I using a print stick I glues my flyer, ticket, booklet and cd packages together. After that I backed the point of sales stand, poster and CDs this allowed them to become stronger to make sure they were suitable for the purpose and looked professional. I put the hologram on to the ticket in a suitable place to avoid forgery before putting it in the laminator to receive a water proof and shiny look. Finally I created my vinyl on 2D design and sent it to be cut on the chosen colour of vinyl and I put it on to the point of sales stand.

What I Learnt? From this page I have learnt about what other people thought of my work and the kind of improvements other people thought I should make if I was to re‐make my products again. I have also learnt what different aged people and genders think of my work and products.
Opinion 1( Rachel Kramer):I
thinks that Zoe's work looks very professional and I would defiantly buy this CD if it was sole in shops. I really like the paint splatter to make a colourful rain effect I think this really links with the target audience as pop is associated with bright colours.
Opinion 2(Rachel Jackson):
I really like Zoe‟s work and there is a number of reasons why I think the logo is really cute and goes nicely with the silhouette of the man. Another reason for me liking Zoe‟s work is that it is very easy to use as it has a simple design.
Opinion 3(Emily Fisk): I thing I like
most about Zoe‟s work is the CD package I think it looks very professional and the design is very good. There are a couple of things Zoe‟s could do to improve her work such as add more information to the booklet like adding the song lyrics or thanks from the band members.
My opinion: over all I am very pleased with all of my products I think they all look professional as they have all the relevant information. I know that there are some improvements I could make such as the materials that I used for each of the products. I really like my design as I feel it really links well with my target market with all of the bright colours.
Customer as you can see from my target market page the age range for my customers is from 1235. we designing my products I have this in mind all the time so I knew how I was going to make it appeal to that age group. My design is very bright and vibrate which I feel would attack the attention of my customers, I think my design has a very sophisticated theme of the paint splats. This would make it more appealing for purchase and advertisement.
Initial task-This is the task that I was set at the beginning of my project. I believe I have achieved all of my points to a high standard. I believe this as my finished CD case and many items of promotion material to match the target market. Throughout all of my different pieces f promotional material I tried to make them as realistic as possible including the band name and logo on all of my products. To make my ticket as realistic as possible I added a hologram and I also laminated it to make it look like it had a shine.
Gender: Within the target market I stated that product I will focus on females more than males because of the type of music however it will appeal to both genders. I have acted on this by using a range of vibrate colours, this use of colour really makes the product stand out to either gender.
What I Learnt? Doing this page I have learned that I have stuck to my design specification and that I made all my products and designs suitable for my target audience. I also found out a few improvements that I could make to my work if I had some extra time.
Geographical location: When designing and advertising my products, especially the posters and flyers, I bases them on the UK. I did this by making it all in English and placing all the venues around the UK. This will help meet the needs of the band and customer. Advertising: there are a number of ways a business could advertising with some types more suitable than others. As I have said in the target market there are number of ways the customer could find out about what the band is doing for example posters. Throughout this project I created a number of different pieces of advertisement for the band. I think that all of my promotional material for the band looks very professional and tells the customer everything they will need to know.
Target market: As I stated in the text above to create a successful CD package I would need to create a vibrant, eye catching set of designs. I believe hat I have achieved this due to my 3rd party opinions and with the colours that I used. I think my overall project looks very professional and this was my biggest aim. It also links into the theme and the music genre of pop. Further more I have created memorable and interesting names and logos to appeal to the audience and band.
Customer: throughout a number of my PowerPoint pages, I have included a statement from a member of my class. This stamen included what she thought of the page and giving her opinion one a couple of different ideas. This really help me to make my decisions on my logos, fount and colour choice.
Symbols: The symbols on a product
make it more realistic, products are obliged Function: the function of this product to have signs and symbols to show the was to create a four fold CD package customer the authenticity. I took this into and within that to have 2 cd. I feel I did account when creating my product and this well as I managed to create a incorporated the correct and most realistic professional looking CD package and symbols I thought were necessary. I also a point of sales stand to promote the included things like a bar code and more. band.
Durability- I think the durability of my
finished product isn't as good as it could be because it is not water resistant and I only used a glue stick to stick my products and designs together, therefore it may start to peel because it is not very strong. All though I think my product is hand wearing.
Materials; the materials
finish my work by December initially, however our deadline moved to the end of February, therefore I completed my work on time.
Issues: Before creating my product I
Size and weight: the size
took into account any cultural and religious issues and had to be careful not to offend anyone with the textual contents, for example any derogatory language. My finished product does not include any harmful or offensive language or textual contents as I took in to account my target audience.
and weight of my CD package turned out like I would have hoped. Both of the CD fit perfectly into the packing making the whole look of my package very professional.
Aesthetics:
What I Learnt? Doing this page I have learned that I have stuck to my design specification and that I made all my products and designs suitable for my target audience. I also found out a few improvements that I could make to my work if I had some extra time.
all of the products that I produced are very safe I made sure my products were going to be like this as I did not used any harmful glues when sticking my work together. I also made sure there was not sharp edges
Timescale: I was meant to
I used were simple and constructive, making my product look very professional. Some of the materials I used were grey board, white card and vinyl.
The product I have created is bright, vibrant and eye catching because of the pop theme and consistent colour scheme. The typography i have incorporated within my designs is suitable and fits in well with the rest of my designs and themes. I got inspiration from my mood board when creating my logo which was useful to help me create a high quality logo. My finished product appeals and is relevant to my target audience as I have created relevant themes, textual contents and images through-out.
Safety:
Cost: I have kept the costs of my
products low to appeal more and apply to my customer „s profile. After manufacturing my product I think I have made it to a high standard and it would be value for money.
Testing: I am going to give my

product to several people to test like I said on my design specification. This will allow them to tell me there they thing I have done well and where I can improve my product.
Target Market:
The age range has stayed the same throughout the Ergonomics I have followed making and designing of my product and it is within the ergonomics section of the the correct price range. I design specification in all of my have used a range of products I produced. It is at a realistic size and shape which has colours to unsure that my not sharp edges so it is safe to use. product did not become sexist.
Modifications: There are many modifications that I would make to my products, some are only modifications due to my own errors, for example, some of my products are not cut as smoothly as I would prefer, so if I were to make my products again, I would like to take more time when cutting, so the edges of my products would be as smooth as possible, with no ragged edges hanging off. I would also use some different materials for my point of sakes stand as when it was kept in the cupboard it got cold and damp and the support started to bend. There fore next I would change were a kept all of my product and use stronger material. Furthermore, I would have liked all of my designs to be initially printed onto strong card. This would have saved time as I would not have had to cut out other bits of white card out and stick them onto products in order to strengthen them, for example, when I backed the outer CD case with white card, so that the overall CD case would be stronger and more durable. By using a stronger card to print on in the first place, it would have improved the aesthetics of my products because it was quite a messy job to back the products with card. If I were to make this product again, I would also want to use a double sided printer for products such as my CD, the ticket and the flyer. Again, this is to save time because it was time consuming to cut out both sides and stick them together, making sure they fitted together perfectly. In addition, it would improve the quality of my products more if they were not stuck together, instead they were double sided in the first place. It would also make them look more professional. Using stronger glue would be another modification that I would make. Although I used glue from a glue gun on my POS stand, for my other products ( flyer, ticket and poster) I used Pritt stick to glue them. This was fairly acceptable to use when sticking the two tickets and flyers together, however when sticking the poster to the backing card, a stronger glue should have been used, as Prittstick was not very effective.
One-off Production: One-off production is when only one of the product is made. It is labour-intensive, because every product is different. One-off graphic products might include a presentation book as a souvenir of a special event. This is what I have done as I have only make one of each of my products making this one very unique. Batch Production: Batch production is when a set quantity is made. It may also require a lot of labour, but jigs and templates are used to aid production. Often the machines can be easily changed to produce a batch of a different product. Batch-produced graphic products include poster for a play or concert. Another example of this is in programmes they might want 2 thousand of one product and 1 thousand of another this would be batch products. To link this to my work if I was going to sell my products I might get 400 CD packages and also 1 thousand flyers to hand out and all of these would be to the same quality. Mass Production: Mass production is when a very large number of the same product is made, usually on a production line. The product changes regularly so production cannot be continuous. Examples of mass-produced graphic products are newspapers and magazines. Linking to my work I could get mine CD package mass produced to get many of he exact same product. Continuous Flow: Continuous-flow production is when many thousands of products are made. The process is often automated and few workers are required. Continuous-flow production is used for graphics products that sell in large numbers throughout the year, but do not need to be frequently changed, such as cereal packaging The difference between this and mass production is that the production line is kept running to eliminate the expense of stopping and restarting the production process. I could do this with some of my products but it would not really be necessary as the band I am designing the products for is not very big therefore would not sell my of their products.
What I Learnt? Some of the things that I have learnt on this slide are Another reason found this page really useful as I was able to learnt about all of the different types of production and what happened in each of them.
Just in time production: Just in time production is when a company only buys enough stock to cover its immediate needs. It ensures that the right amount of material arrives when needed. There are many advantages to this method of production some of these are it reduces storage cost, allows production runs to change more quickly, reduces overstocking of materials.
