Greetings Snow Leopards! My name is Marlen Gonzalez and I proudly serve as your Division 24/29 Lieutenant Governor for the 2021-2022 term. A little about me; I’m currently a senior at Pioneer Valley High School and this will be my fourth and final year in Key Club. I also previously served my home club as Secretary during the 2019-2020 term and as President for the 2020-2021 term. I hope that everyone has been having an amazing summer so far! I also hope that you all have been taking advantage of the service opportunities offered throughout the summer. Now that summer is quickly coming to an end, it is important for you all to continue to stay active and participate in as many events as possible. Dues season is approaching and you all know what that means, member recruitment! Please do your best to invite new people to join Key Club and show them the amazing benefits that they can get from joining our wonderful organization. As we begin August, we will be having lots of events coming up including service events and DCMs! Our August DCM will be held on August 28th, 2021. Our annual Region Training Conference is also coming up soon in September. Please do your best to attend these events and be a part of all the great things that Key Club has to offer. I hope that you also start off the school year strong. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about anything, please feel free to reach out to me at any time. I look forward to see you soon Snow Leopards!

Leaping through Service,

2021-2022 Lieutenant Governor

Hey Snow Leopards! My name is Vanessa Rivera and I’m happy to be serving you as your Division 24/29 News Editor for the 2021-2022 term. In case we don’t know each other, I am currently a senior at Pioneer Valley High School going into my senior year and second year of Key Club. Aside from being involved in Key Club, I have been a Girl Scout since I was 10 and have a passion for music and art. I’ve also been a part of my school’s Jazz Choir since freshman year, and can’t wait to perform and meet with my fellow choir classmates this upcoming year! I also love to craft, play video games, and draw during my spare time. Creating graphics and designs is something I find to be exciting and fun and I can’t wait to work with the DLT! I hope you all enjoy what I have to offer and I’m looking forward on creating these monthly newsletters! In this issue of Leaping into the News, you can meet the new Division Leadership Team, view Presidents Spotlight, District updates, recaps, and learn more about MRP! Happy Reading!

Hey Snow Leopards! My name is Clara Landeros and I am an incoming junior next year at San Luis Obispo High School. I'm thrilled to be your Executive Assistant for the 2021-2022 DLT year! Apart from being our school's SLO Key Club’s President, I am also the secretary for the National Honors Society. I love to read and watch the news and movies. I am very into learning Latin and I really enjoy learning history as well! Spending time with my family and friends is one of the things I enjoy the most. I like swimming, hiking, and running too. I enjoy meeting and befriending new people. I also love to cook and bake new recipes (or old ones!) quite often. I hope to be able to serve all of you effectively this upcoming year and can't wait to make new memories with my team!

2021-2022 Executive Assistant

Hey Snow Leopards! My name is Yitzel Chavez and it’s an honor to be serving you as one of your Division 24/29 Executive Assistants this year! Even though many of you don’t know me yet, I hope to get to meet each and one of you and get to know you better! Some things to know about me are that I am going into my junior year at Pioneer Valley High School, this will be my 2nd year being a member of Key Club, and I am currently part of 4 other clubs in my campus. So far, being involved in clubs have really helped me with my communication and social skills to become a better leader. I really love making new friends and learning more about them. I look forward to working together with my awesome team to provide you everyone with the best KC experience. Being an executive assistant is something new for me, but I know I have what it takes to be in this position. Some of my goals are to make things more manageable and to provide whatever resources you guys may need. I’m looking forward for this new term, working along with D24/29 and my team! I am here to help you and answer whatever questions you may have, so feel free to reach out to me.

Hey Snow Leopards! My name is Zoey Nielsen and I am so excited for the opportunity to serve as your Division 24/29 Media Editor this term. I will be a junior at San Luis Obispo High School, where I have served as the Webmaster and Co-Editor of the Key Club for the past year. I am excited to use the skills I have learned at my home club and apply them to the division level! Several hobbies of mine include playing guitar, reading when I have the time, and sketching. Some of my goals this year are to increase posting consistency, create more platforms for our members to view, and generally increase awareness and communication between our Key Clubs, which I believe graphics and media platforms can help me to achieve. Thank you and I am happy to serve as the Media Editor!

2021-2022 Media Editor

Hey Snow Leopards! I am your 2021-2022 Event Coordinator, Rubi Orduña-Hernandez! This will be my second year in Key Club, and I am SO excited to be a part of this term’s Division Leadership Team! I will share a bit about myself for those who have not met me. I am going to be a junior at Pioneer Valley High School, and a huge interest of mine would definitely be the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’d like to point out that Marvel became my absolute obsession throughout quarantine, and it will more than likely only grow. I also absolutely love to watch movies at the movie theaters, to the point where I decided to work at one. So, if you ever see me at Edwards Theater 10 in Santa Maria, then please do not hesitate to say hello to me :). I also volunteer at a variety of places, but I honestly believe that Key Club is the absolute BEST program to volunteer for because of how welcoming it was to me. Now, community service has become such a big part of me because of Key Club. So, with that being said, now that I get to lead the events for this division, I am ecstatic to bring new ideas and opportunities into this Division, especially now that things are calming down a bit. I am absolutely looking forward to meeting Division 24/29 in-person, and hopefully not see anymore foreheads through a screen on zoom. So, let's all give it our best this year Snow Leopards

I am a rising junior, and currently serve as the President of the Ernest Righetti High School Key Club. Other than this wonderful organization, I am involved in various other community service programs, such as Interact and ASTRA. Outside of community service, I have always had a passion for creative writing and competitive mathematics. I am also a member of my varsity golf team, and always enjoy reading a good book. (Big Brandon Sanderson and Stephen King fan!) I also listen to music, and love sleeping and eating. Community service and being a member of Key Club are among my greatest passions, and I can’t wait to serve you as a member of the DLT.

Hey Snow Leopards! Hey Snow Leopards! It’s me! Veronica Garcia, serving as your Spirit Coordinator! I am so beyond excited to be serving on the Division Leadership Team for the 2021-2022 school year!

But first off, so we can get to know each other better, here are some facts about myself. I’m a senior at Santa Maria High School! Go Saints! I’m the Vice-President of Santa Maria Key Club and I love doing community service! Outside of Key Club, I serve as the President of my agriculture organization called FFA and the secretary of the Close Up Washington D.C. Club. I love showing school spirit playing my trombone during football games! I also enjoy playing trombone for jazz band and playing the bassoon for concert band. When I’m with my family, I love traveling to new areas. My family are big nature lovers and so am I! Trees, clouds, animals, flowers, streams and so on I find all so peaceful and calming. Being surrounded by nature helps me relax and calm down after a long day.

There’s a million things more you can know about me but I’ll leave that to share when I meet some of you! I’m so excited to create new, catchy and fun chants this year! Division 24/29 be ready to be the most pumped up, high geared and of course most spirited division there is! Go Snow Leopards!

Service Apps Provided by Jeremy Lee Oani (ERHS) During the summer, the ERHS Key Club has continued to do service via technology with the Charity Miles and Free Rice apps. The Charity Miles app allows members to earn service hours just by traveling certain distances by foot. This could be through walking or jogging. The Free Rice app allows us to earn service hours just by answering questions that deal with vocabulary. For every question we get right, more food is donated to those unfortunate around the world. We have also been increasing participation throughout the whole club by going to DCMs and more. With this, we have been getting to know each other more through more zoom meetings with each other. Additionally, we have been planning on more ways we could get service events going. Whether this be picking up trash at the park or more zoom meetings. We have really used this summer to get fully prepared for the next year. We hope that it will be a great one!

Food Drive Provided by Nathaniel De Francia (PVHS) A service project that our club decided to do was a food drive. This food drive was held on May 15th which was on a Saturday. The officers that assisted in running this event were Nadia Gutierrez (2024 Class Delegate), Nathaniel De Francia (Webmaster), Alex Martinez (President), and Mrs. Clark (Advisor). The plan for this event is to distribute canned goods as well as dropping off bookmarks for the Santa Maria Public Library to the school. There were about seven members that were able to participate in this drive-thru event. Members brought in canned foods, pasta, beans, and many more non-perishable foods. In addition, members brought in homemade bookmarks from a past service event held in our general Zoom meetings.

June DCM: Landing in D24/29 Provided by Finn Westley, (SLOHS) Three members of our club were in attendance at the June DCM where we played games with members of other clubs in the division, received important updates about the Key Club International Summer Leadership Conference, Officer Training Conference, and met our new Division Leadership Team. We also congratulated our officer, member, club, and advisor of the month. A special congratulations to our very own Diana Meyer, who won advisor of the month! All members (and prospective members!) are welcome to join our Division Council Meetings. We hope to see more of you there next month for fun games and information on upcoming events.
