Club Spotlights Thank you letters & future plans San Marcos / Emily Bautista / 12 This month a lot of our members have either been busy or travelling out of state. Because of this, our member participation hasn’t been high this month so we’ve held off on planning events in consideration of our members. However, we’ve continued to hold a few virtual events from previous months such as writing thank you letters to friends and families in case members wanted to gain hours and participate in Key Club events. Only a couple members took advantage of this, but we expect to see increased member participation in a couple months when school starts up again. Even as things begin opening up as more vaccines roll out and more in-person events start to take place, we hope to be able to continue hosting virtual events as well. The flexibility and accessibility of these virtual events encourage and allow more members to participate in volunteering, and this is something we aim to continue to hold even after COVID restrictions are lifted. Our club hopes to hold a fundraiser within the next couple of months to raise money for Key Club; we’ve looked into holding one at either Menchie’s or Chipotle since other clubs at our school have had successful fundraisers at these locations. Although our school Key Club hasn’t been able to mandate recent events, we’ve had a focus on our visions and goals for the next couple of months to prepare for when school returns in the fall.
Posters for seniors & origami hearts High Tech High / Ella Maldrid / Senior Summer has officially started for our Key Club Jellies and the rest of our school over at High Tech High! Although this long awaited break brings relief to all of the students, it also leaves us with a bittersweet goodbye to our senior class. Due to distance learning and hybrid learning being an option, a lot of students did not get to bid farewell to the seniors because of the COVID 19 restrictions. To attempt at overcoming this, our High Tech High Jellies made it our job to show how much the class of 2021 really means to our school. As a club, we banned together to create origami hearts and posters with appreciative and motivational messages. Those who participated in the poster making event at the school had also taken the time to hang the posters up for all of the seniors to see as well. We wanted to give the class of 2021 one last hoorah before they were off into the world outside of grade school. Of course, this project couldn’t have been done without our amazing key club members. The officers behind this event were so proud of the continued amount of participation coming from everyone. This service event was an absolute success and we hope our seniors appreciated the gesture.
