THE benefits of the COVID19 vaccination far outweigh any negatives such as formation of blood clots, which are rare among recipients of some
vaccines noted globally, minister of Health, Jonas Chanda has said. Dr Chanda said yesterday that the local and global health experts having reviewed the medical reports
agree that the benefits of the vaccines far outweigh any risks. “The concerns surrounding the AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson about clotting events have been reviewed

FIGHTING COVID 19
THE coronavirus (COVID19) is still a threat not only to Zambia but to the global community and locally more than 1000 people have been lost to the pandemic and more than more than three million globally. To forestall an increase in covid19 infections, various vaccines have been introduced, though in Zambia, we are only dealing with the AstraZeneca. After more than a week since the vaccination programme was launched, slightly over 3000 people have been immunized. This is not impressive, considering that the nation has more than 228,000 vacinnes to give out. Over the last couple of weeks, a decline of new COVID-19 cases and the beginning of mass immunization campaigns across several countries fueled the world with optimism about a durable solution for the pandemic. However, a third wave of new COVID-19 cases is emerging globally, tempering the more optimistic views about a quick recovery from the pandemic. Importantly, as the third wave of new COVID-19 cases accelerates, several countries are moving again towards more aggressive mitigation strategies. The objective is to lengthen the time through which the virus spreads and to flatten the curve of infections before hospitals get overloaded by a bigger surge of severe cases. We commend the Zambian government for having embarked on the COVID-19 vaccination with the sole purpose of saving lives, increase recovery rates and avoid unintended consequences associated with strained healthcare systems. Like most vaccines, there are apprehensions from some sections of society on the safety of the vaccines. Clearing the myth surrounding the AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson, minister of Health, Dr. Jonas Chanda said vaccines benefits outweigh rare negatives effects. Dr Chanda said the benefits of the COVID19 vaccination far outweigh any negatives such as formation of blood clots, which are rare among recipients of some vaccines noted globally. He said that the local and global health experts having reviewed the medical reports agree that the benefits of the vaccines far outweigh any risks. “The concerns surrounding the AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson about clotting events have been reviewed in the USA, Europe and other countries, and indeed the health experts finally agree that the benefits are vast and in order to curb the Covid-19 pandemic, this intervention is key to protect lives. Many countries that had "temporally suspended" use of these vaccines out of caution to best understand the side effects have now re-started vaccination with AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson, including in the USA and most European countries,” Dr Chanda said. It is important therefore that more Zambians take up the vaccines as this is intended to provide some safeguard against covid19. In the event that one contracts covid19, it would not be as severe as it would be if one did not receive the vaccination. We also feel more sensitization is needed to bring people on board. The fears on clotting need to be laid to rest with assurance from the medical personnel. Therefore, the planned translation of vaccination information into local language can not come soon enough. This is important because it will afford a large part of the population to understand why this vaccine is important and necessary. It will help to lay to rest some misapprehension about the vaccines.
CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI IN A TANGLE By MUBANGA LUCHEMBE HE has been described as a “loose cannon with a lot of valid graft-accusing points, the wrong messenger for the right anti-graft message, an apparent anti-graft activist who hears graft-alleging rumours and if this or that takes his fancy, he runs with it.” So how come this man, called Chishimba Kambwili, is able to create such excitement in Zambia to the extent that most, if not all, the opposition political parties in the UPND Alliance, including his own NDC of which he still maintains to be its legitimate president, have teamed up against him? Whoever said two heads are better than one probably did not have the UPND-led opposition alliance in mind. Formed in 2018 as a way to the country’s regime change in 2021, the opposition political unity that it was supposed to foster began creaking under disagreements between the two men at the top of two main partnering allies, the UPND and NDC. The rift was exposed following Kambwili’s departure from the just renamed opposition alliance, which saw the NDC split into two factions. For a brief moment, it looked as though the Judiciary would have to ride to the rescue. A pantomime-like power struggle within the NDC ensued with court interdicts and counter-interdicts being sought in the High Court by either side to prevent the other from heading the party. Matters took a turn for the worse when Kambwili unreservedly apologised to President Edgar Lungu and businessman Valden Findlay for accusing them of being drug dealers, saying that he was misinformed on the matter. In his reaction, President Lungu responded that he had noted Kambwili’s apology and accepted it in the true Christian spirit. Adding that what mattered was someone’s actions and deeds after one’s apology for the wrongs they had done much to the chagrin of the UPND bigwigs and other opposition political leaders who had been championing Kambwili’s hitherto false allegations of PF government’s corruption as a way for regime change. How did Kambwili’s political affairs’ tangle, come to this and where will it all end? It is common knowledge that for a time UPND president Hakainde Hichlema had been looking for a running mate who would bring in more votes from the Bemba-speaking provinces. To this end, he had made forays into
these four vote-rich and populous regions, namely Copperbelt, Luapula, Northern and Muchinga provinces seeking a suitable deputy. Kambwili was miffed when he realised that he was no longer in Hichilema’s running mate plan, and decided to go against his opposition alliance partner’s intentions. But his challenge and departure distressed his own party the NDC. Besides, NDC faction leader Joseph Akafumba who at one-time doubled as Kambwili’s legal representative in courts claimed that the provincial elections and national convention held by the expelled party leader were illegal.
NDC faction leader Joseph Akafumba advised that Kambwili was at the brink of rejoining the ruling party because he could no longer handle the pressure from the courts, but vowed that the NDC would remain a member of the UPND Alliance. Akafumba added that Kambwili was in a difficult position where in one case he was convicted, he has two other cases where he has been put on his defence. He also has a third case that was coming up for case to answer.
In explaining this, Akafumba further advised that Kambwili was at the brink of rejoining the ruling party because he could no longer handle the pressure from the courts, but vowed that the NDC would remain a member of the UPND Alliance. Akafumba added that Kambwili was in a difficult position where in one case he was convicted, he has two other cases where he has been put on his defence. He also has a third case that was coming up for case to answer. And that his purported provincial elections and national convention were fakes and an orchestrated plan for him to return to the PF. It is just a matter of time before UPND suffers the same fate as the NDC, according to analysts, and before its exponents decamp to the ruling party. Zambian politics are famed for politicians who abandon their parties and reinvent themselves. Indeed, a glimpse into Zambian history reveals that its political parties are not built on ideology and they hardly survive, although the politicians mutate and reinvent themselves.
Long before the UPND leader lost the 2016 vote for Zambia’s presidency, Kambwili had embarked on a nationwide campaign against him and publicly declared that Hichilema was again going to lose the presidential race. Hichilema lost for the fifth time, and Kambwili thrived. He had since been seen as a kingmaker, and the PF victory then had further emboldened him. He made public pronouncements that few would dare whisper. He has made bold statements on intractable problems such as the high cost-ofliving question, and the huge inequality divided along racial lines. His ability to articulate the frustrations of the marginalised unemployed youth on the Copperbelt and national platforms had won him many admirers and many enemies in equal measure. Chief among the latter are the largely Chinese-owned business entities and Asian-origin minorities who feel threatened by his “Zambian first agenda,” as he puts it. It would not be farfetched to suggest that since his apology to the Head of State, Kambwili has spent time on irrelevant issues such as who retains the presidency and who fills other top positions in the NDC. His other petty subjects about this year’s general elections as being a two-horse race between PF and UPND and threats to spill UPND’s secrets do not address youth unemployment and undo the country’s adverse publicity generated by his erstwhile false graft-allegations including his crude, graft-accusing character assassinations that have damaged both the internal and external image of the PF, the government and Zambia as a whole, to cite a couple of the most pressing challenges facing Zambians in the 2016 post-election era. The fact that Zambia, as evidenced by its local currency free-falling exchange rate, has lost direct foreign investment is a harbinger of worse to come due to UPND and Kambwili’s graft-accusing invectives that have already been taken seriously by global investors. The youth need jobs, skills, tertiary education and mentoring in entrepreneurship and in many aspects of their lives to participate meaningfully in society and compete in the ruthless socio-economic environment. What next will Kambwili be able to offer other than threats to expose Hichilema’s underbelly and weaken his chances in the upcoming elections?

SHOCKED HATEMBOS CRY FOUL From Page 1
The sudden appearance of the Hatembo siblings Pheluna and Milton in a video, a few days after accused persons in their suspected abduction were released from custody has worried family members because they have no access to the duo, family spokesperson Lucky Muchimba has said. Speaking in an interview, Mr Muchimba said the abduction of the Hatembo siblings especially Pheluna had left the family disturbed because she left a sick child who requires constant care. Mr Muchimba said the family still believe that their missing relatives were being held hostage by political criminals who wanted to attain power at all cost. He maintained that the video was staged because as family they have not seen the two siblings nor have they had contact with them, for the last three momths. He said the latest video was staged to dupe Zambians into believing that Madam Nawakwi was behind their current situation when she was trying to help the family. Mr Muchimba said the family was shocked by the video and called on the police to use all means possible to identify the place where the video was shot and the individuals behind it. He said ZICTA should trace the origins of the video to help them find the Hatembo siblings so that his mother-in-law could take over
the care of her special needs daughter, Nasilele. In the latest video, which has gone viral, Pheluna and Milton are seen in a room with no other people denouncing FDD leader Edith Nawakwi, in a manner the family say was scripted by the abductors to dupe members of the public. The Hatembos are seen denouncing Ms Nawakwi and accused her of trying to use them for her own political expediency. They denied that they were being held against their will but that the truth was that they were running away from Ms Nawakwi. The Hatembo accused Ms Nawakwi of threatening to kill them if they refused to cooperate in a matter in which they refused to appeal against a High Court ruling in favour of UPND President Hakainde Hichilema concerning an alleged fraudulent transaction of farm number 1924 Kalomo. The matter was thrown out on account of being time barred. In the video, the Hatembos are heard pleading with Zambians especially the women organizations to sit Ms Nawakwi down and persuade her to leave them alone but could not state where they were stationed. Ms Nawakwi on the other hand has accused Mr Hichilema of habouring the Hatembos to prevent them from being witnesses in criminal cases reported to police by Equity and Economic Party (EEP) president, Chilufya Tayali.

TELEPHORE IS FRUSTRATED - BIGOCA BISHOP By KETRA KALUNGA
N
O good counsel can come from Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu because he is frustrated and his hatred for President Edgar Lungu is now manifesting rapidly, says Bible Gospel in Central Africa (BIGOCA) overseer, Bishop Alfred Ndlovu. Bishop Ndlovu, who was reacting to the archbishop’s remarks against President Edgar Lungu, said the other man of God had turned himself into a bitter soul and no good counsel can come from him. And Bishop Ndlovu said the
man of God was a frustrated and retired archbishop who has ran out of ideas. He said President Lungu and the Zambians should ignore Archbishop Mpundu's utterances because they are coming from a person who was retired by the Catholic Pope. Bishop Mpundu said in an interview that the utterances from the former Catholic archbishop was not shocking because he was irresponsible. "He was retired as Lusaka archbishop by the Pope so no good counsel can come from him," he said. And Bishop Ndlovu advised
the former archbishop to be grateful to the government for the support rendered to the Catholic Church instead of constantly insulting the Head of State. He rubbished archbishop Mpundu's remarks that President Edgar Lungu was dangerous, saying the man has his own agenda and that’s why he was attacking the President. Bishop Ndlovu said the President has proved to the Zambian people that his urgency is to uplift their welfare and this was evidenced by a number of developmental programs that have been implemented. According to a statement issued by his special assistant for press and public relations Mr Isaac Chipampe, President Lungu emphasised that work on the project must not be delayed by bureaucracy. President Lungu invited President Tshisekedi to the Commissioning of the Kazungula Bridge in May. The President said the invitation was important so that Congo could be inspired by what Zambia and Botswana
have done. And President Tshisekedi has called for enhanced relations between Zambia and the Congo. He also called for strengthening of relations between President Lungu and himself for the good of the two countries. And speaking during a press conference after the talks, President Lungu told journalists that he was delighted to be in Congo for talks that would build relations between the two countries. Developer defends ownership of Kabwata cultural village structure By KALOBWE BWALYA A LUSAKA businessman has defended his ownership of part of the Kabwata Cultural Villager, halting demolition orders from Lusaka province minister, Bowman Lusambo. “WE got legal documents from the Lusaka City Council (LCC) Kabwata Cultural Village Land,” says Lusaka businessman Essa Junior. On Thursday, Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo called for the immediate demolition of what he called an illegal structure constructed at Kabwata cultural village land in Lusaka. Speaking after he toured the encroached site, Mr Lusambo said he would not tolerate lawlessness in land allocation in the
Province. He also threatened to demolish the building if the developer did not produce any council documentation authoritising the works. But, yesterday, a check by Daily Nation however found works in progress with building materials offloaded on the site. In an interview, Mr Essa said they submitted all the documents to the respected offices to go through including the title deeds for the building that is along Burma Road next to Kabwata gym. He disclosed that all the required documents have since been taken to respected offices including the Lusaka Provincial office for clarification. Mr Essa said they have since
continued with the works at the site because he believed that he followed the laid down procedure in acquiring the same piece of land. He said the land in question was bought from someone who failed to develop it after he acquired it. Mr Essa said, he understood the Zambian law because he is a Zambian citizen, therefore he could not abrogate any law because no one is above the law. “We submitted all the documents to the respected offices to go through including the title deeds for the building that is along Burma Road next to Kabwata gym on the same day Mr Bowman Lusambo conducted impromptu visit of the same place,” said Mr Essa.
Earlier, the council refused authorising any construction works on the piece of land. Mr Lusambo directed the PF Kabwata constituency chairman, Trevor N’gandu, to remove any person at the site until the owner of the property was established. Mr Lusambo also directed Lusaka City Council (LCC) to hand over the file to him so that he could establish the person who was in charge for the allocation of land. The minister said the land where the building is belonged to Kabwata cultural village national heritage site. He expressed shock that the land which belonged to Government could easily be given out without following procedure.

SHODDY WORKS DISAPPOINT MUPEZENI By SIMON MUNTEMBA
P
ARAMOUNT Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni people has bemoaned the lack of seriousness by some Zambian contractors to deliver quality services when awarded contracts in infrastructure development. The traditional leader said for a long time, some local contractors had been failing to implement projects awarded to them by the Government. He expressed disappointment following the shoddy works done by a contractor on some dams in his chiefdom. Paramount Chief Mpezeni said in an interview that a named local contractor who was engaged to work on some

dams in his chiefdom, abandoned the projects when records indicate that he was fully paid, while others did shoddy works. “Uyu muyakine ethawa koma government yemupasa ndalama zonse (this other local contractor abandoned the project despite being paid),” Paramount Chief Mpezeni said. He advised government to carefully scrutinize local contractors engaged to work on projects to avoid shoddy works and losing resources. The traditional leader also said people that certified the completion of such shoddy works should be brought to book because tax payers’ money went to waste.
Land titling key to agricultural development - HH By NOEL IYOMBWA LAND titling is a precursor to real agricultural development, employment creation, poverty and income inequality reduction and, environmental preservation, Party of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) president Highvie Hamududu has said. Speaking in an interview, Mr Hamududu, a proponent of formalization of land ownership said that, once traditional land was titled, agriculture would automatically be transformed into a formal business activity. "The country needs to title land, including land in our villages. The issue of engaging in agriculture on traditional land is an issue of informality which
does not bring about growth, nor lift people out of poverty. Our people in the villages, the land they call 'theirs' must have the backing of the law so that our people in the rural areas are turned into business men and women; because, agriculture must be a business," he said. Mr Hamududu said the real foundation of agricultural transformation was hinged on two assets. "What are the main assets of the real foundation? These are two: the people and the land. So, the first thing we must do is to title land if we are to transform agriculture in this country. It's high time we addressed this elephant in the room which is land titling across the country," Hamududu said.
He also said that, "If you want to run a company, what do you do first? You go and register the company and get the certificate of incorporation. If you buy a car, you have a blue book. If you buy a gun, you have a license. Now land which is more important has got no papers? Hence the poor agriculture, poverty and inequality in our rural areas because, you can never develop under an informal path". He called on the citizenry, government and their royal highnesses to have a serious conversation and confront the issue of land titling as a precursor to broad based economic empowerment, employment creation fight against poverty and inequalities and, environmental preservation.

‘Police must summon Senior Chief Mukuni over HH poisoning claims’
Senior Chief Mukuni
By OLIVER SAMBOKO POLICE should immediately summon Senior Chief Mukuni of Southern Province to explain his claims that Government is planning to poison UPND president Hakainde Hichilema, ZRP president Wright Musoma has demanded. At the weekend, Senior Chief Mukuni accused Government of carrying out sustained propaganda that Mr Hichilema is unwell meant to prepare people’s minds, claiming the PF was planning to poison him during an arrest. But Mr Musoma said traditional leaders should avoid careless talk which could ignite anarchy especially that the country was heading for general elections. He said police should find out more from Senior Chief Mukuni about his claims. Mr Musoma said it was disturbing that a traditional leader who should be working with the government, was busy accusing the state of planning evil against its citizens. He the claim by the traditional leader should not be taken lightly because it was a grave matter that could lead to violence from Mr Hichilema’s supporters. Mr Musona said he was aware that Mr Hichilema and Senior Chief Mukuni were close business partners, but warned against unwarranted claims meant to mislead Zambians. He said the police should be given space to carry out their duties without being intimidated by anyone regardless of their position in society. Mr Musoma said it is wrong for the traditional leader of Senior Chief Mukuni’s status to continue making false accusations that Government was planning to eliminate Mr Hichilema from the 2021 general elections.
Church not doing enough to unite nation - NGOs By PETER SICHALI THE Church has not performed their critical role of uniting the nation through counselling politicians and citizens alike on how to conduct themselves and govern affairs of the nation, Consortium of political parties and Non Governmental organisation Spokesperson Spuki Mulemwa has said. Mr Mulemwa said the Church should not only pray for politi-

"We have noted with grave concern, how the Church has not performed their critical role of uniting the nation through counselling politicians and citizens alike how to conduct themselves and govern affairs of the nation," Mr Mulemwa said. Mr Jere donated BP monitors, surgical masks and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for the medical team at Matero Level One Hospital as they roll out the Covid-19 vaccination. He explained that he
decided to donate because the BP machines were almost obsolete at the hospital. "When I came to do my vaccination on Tuesday last week, I found that the BP machines were almost obsolete. So I promise to get them new ones hence this donation," Jere said when the handover of the devices. Mr Jere said apart from the monitors, he has included surgical masks and PPEs for the medical teams at the hospital which is the biggest med-

And hospital superintendent Dr Mutumba Songiso thanked Mr. Jere for the gesture and said the donation will be put to good use. "We welcome the donations and will dispatch them to the right places in need of these," Dr Songiso said.
PATROITIC Front (PF) Lusaka province chairperson, Kennedy Kamba has advised party officials in the region to be neutral towards aspiring candidates. Speaking in Kafue when he met district officials yesterday, Mr Kamba warned them to desist from siding with aspiring candidates. Mr Kamba said he was aware that some district party officials have been siding with aspiring candidates but said the trend must come to an end to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants. Dad sues daughter for turning house into brothel AN elderly man revealed how he discovered that his house had been turned into a sleazy prostitution den by his daughter who was in the habit of bringing her different boyfriends for sleep-overs. Hall Nkomo from Vulindlela Flats in Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo said her daughter Judy Nkomo turned his house into a brothel as she was also bringing married men from the suburb into the house when he was not there. He said his daughter started engaging in intimate relationships when she was still at school. A devastated Hall revealed this at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he was suing his daughter and son David for disrespecting him. “I am the complainant in this matter and the first respondent Judy Nkomo is my daughter. I am applying for a protection order against her because she is verbally and emotionally abusive towards me and this has been going on for several years. She is always threatening and insulting me. “She is also disrespecting me by bringing her

Woman drowns baby in boiling water It is alleged that Chipo tried to abort her baby, when that failed and the baby came out alive, she dipped her in a 20-litre bucket of boiling water By Thupeyo Muleya
The trial of a 29-year-old Zimbabwean woman who is accused of drowning her newly-born baby girl in a 20-litre bucket of boiling water in South Africa has been set for May 14 at the Brits Magistrates Court in Gauteng province. Wendy Tapiwa Chipo of Rietfonten who is facing murder charges was remanded to May 14. National Prosecuting Authority’s (NPA) spokesperson for North Gauteng, Ms Lumka
Mahanjana said offence was committed on March 16. She said prior to the infanticide, the woman had allegedly tried to abort the pregnancy without success. “It is alleged that Chipo tried to abort her baby, when that failed and the baby came out alive, she dipped her in a 20-litre bucket of boiling water,” said Ms Mahanjana. “She then put the body into a plastic bag. Together with her friend, they went to bury the baby at a nearby bush”. Ms Mahanjana said the cat was let out of the
bag on March 17, when the friend who could no longer keep the secret reported the matter to the police. She also took the police to the shallow grave they had buried the baby and her remains were recovered. “Chipo was arrested a day later while on the run to Pretoria,” said Ms Mahanjana. Last year a 42-yearold mentally challenged Zimbabwean woman killed her six-year-old daughter in Kwazulu Natal. In 2019, a 30-year-old Zimbabwean woman was left

different boyfriends into my house for sleep-overs and this has caused problems with my neighbours as some of the boyfriends are married men who live in the suburb,” complained Hall. He said he was no longer at peace because of his daughter’s coquettish behaviour. He further said his son was also inciting Judy to disrespect him. “The second respondent David Nkomo is my son. I am also applying for a protection order against him because he too verbally and emotionally abuses me. He constantly threatens me and disrespects me in my own house thereby causing his siblings to also disregard me. This is psychologically and emotionally affecting me and I am no longer at peace. I am therefore asking for the court’s intervention,” pleaded Hall. In response David exonerated himself saying it was his siblings who were disrespecting their father. “I am no longer staying at home but my siblings are the ones who are disrespecting him by talking back at him,” he said. Judy didn’t come to court to defend herself. In her ruling presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube dismissed Hall’s application saying it falls out of the ambit of domestic violence. “There are problems in the family which need to be ironed out but however, they do not fall within the ambit of domestic violence that a protection order should be granted. Hence your application is hereby dismissed,” ruled the magistrate. -B-Metro
A hospital employee in Italy has been accused of skipping work on full pay for 15 years, local media report. The man is alleged to have stopped turning up to work at the Ciaccio hospital in the southern city of Catanzaro in 2005. He is now being investigated for fraud, extortion and abuse of office, Italian news agency Ansa reports. He was reportedly paid €538,000 (£464,000) in total over the years he is thought not to have been working. Six managers at the hospital are also being investigated in connection with the alleged absenteeism.
The arrests are the result of a lengthy police investigation into absenteeism and suspected fraud in the Italian public sector. The employee was a civil servant, and was assigned to a job in the hospital in 2005. It was at this point he stopped going into work, the police said. The police have also accused him of threatening his manager to stop her from filing a disciplinary report against him. That manager later retired, police added, and his ongoing absence was never noticed by her successor or human resources. -BBC News

Man gets community service for abusing corpse Harare magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova has sentenced a man who sexually abused a corpse at a funeral to perform 315 hours of community service at Epworth Police Station. In his ruling, Mr Matova said he had considered that Big Sipiliano of Epworth was a first offender. Mr Matova also considered that Sipiliano was a family man. The court heard that on January 2, an informant was attending a funeral with other neighbours in a room where the body lay in state. Sipiliano got inside the room and said: “Musikana uyu ndakabvira kare ndichimuda. Dai ndakatorara naye hangu achiri mupenyu, manje hazviperi zvakadaro.” (I have always loved this woman. I wish I had slept with her before her death). It was the State’s case that Sipiliano went on to uncover the body and said the lady was still looking beautiful. He lay on the corpse and made sexually suggestive moves with his clothes on.- The Herald

Chart-topping rap star Cardi B has suggested that fame had made her feel more hungry. The 28-year-old rap star - who worked as a stripper before becoming one of the world’s best-selling artists - has taken to Twitter to suggest that money had changed her appetite, admitting she never felt as hungry when she was “broke”. Cardi - who has a two-year-old daughter called Kulture with fellow rap star Offset - wrote on the microblogging platform: “Why am I always so hungry ?! [sad face emoji] I swear I was never this hungry when I was broke. [sad face emoji] (sic)” The “WAP” hitmaker has previously suggested that she was happier before finding fame. She explained: “I feel like I was a little bit happier two or three years ago when I had less money. “I had less people who had opinions about my life. I felt like my life was mine. Now I feel like I don’t even own my life. I feel like the world owns me.” Cardi also insisted she takes inspiration from things and people who exist outside the celebrity world. She said: “My role models are the people around me who I see working. “Like for example, my mom would come home from work and get cooking right away. I also admire my homegirl, right? She used to strip. As soon as she would come home at five or six in the morning, she would finish counting singles, then get her son ready for school, and boom, take him to school.” Despite this, Cardi acknowledged that there are some positive aspects to being famous. The rap star - who married Offset in 2017 - reflected: “My family, whatever they want, they get. Everything that I want to buy, I can get. I don’t have to worry so much about my future.”

Chrissy Teigen, Lady Gaga, Ashley Graham, and Alicia Keys are all examples of stars who have done so, helping others believe that makeup is just an accessory — not a necessity — in the process.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR ZAMBIA’S WILDLIFE? business clearly requires one to be driven. It is not enough to only want to set up the business, but one needs to have a passion for what the legal game meat business does for wildlife. Samson Kandala said, “the hardest part of the process was obtaining a recommendation from a game farmer”. For people in cities, this can be a challenge because most game farmers are located on the outskirts of town, but fortunately you can visit www.wpazambia.com for lists of game farmers in Zambia. “I simply had to write a letter expressing what I was requesting” said Ms Mukonge who initially started

Ecotourism Association of Zambia chairperson Grant Cumings further stated that Zambia’s safari tourism sector will lose USD 100 million due to coronavirus cancellations with 168 safari lodges and camps closed. We are now living in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic that has changed the world as we know it. While there are many things we are unable to fix during this time but we can still support Zambian tourism. Bella Thorne The musician and actress called her January 2017 photo a “real skin alert,” and added that it’s “no secret” she has acne. “Sometimes it’s clear and sometimes it’s just not,” Thorne said about her skin. “I’m very self conscious and constantly feeling bad about myself. BUT I shouldn’t feel bad. It is normal to have acne.”
Hilary Duff The 30-year-old actress documented her sweet and simple travel style on her Instagram story in April 2018. At the time, she opted for tousled waves and a cozy gray sweater.“EVERY1 does!” she continued. “It’s only our society and social-media outlets like this one that tells us we have to have ‘perfect skin’ to be considered socially acceptable. outlets were up to standard, water, and electricity availability among other things. A report was written and after two weeks they were contacted to collect their permits to trade. Despite the challenges, the legal game meat retail business presents many opportunities. Apart from job creation and the pioneering work involved, Chilekwa Mukonge, owner of Urban Hunters said that it is a more sustainable way of consuming wildlife meat as compared to the illegal bushmeat trade. Samson Kandala, owner of Pasawi General Trading in Livingstone also mentioned that the business has the potential to reduce illegal bushmeat consumption which in turn would help stabilize wildlife populations in our national parks. Clearly anyone can venture into legal game meat retailing. It is important to be patient and persistent in any business to get what you want. To get the ball rolling, all that must be done is drafting a letter to the Department of National Parks And Wildlife expressing interest. The risks posed by the illegal bushmeat trade to Zambia’s wildlife cannot be ignored as it is the biggest threat to our wildlife. If you would like to contribute to the legal game meat industry, support the legal game meat retailers. The more legal game meat we buy the more the demand grows. This can mean growth for the legal game meat industry and reduced illegal bushmeat trade. Game farming, the raising wildlife on private or community land, is a sustainable way of sourcing game meat because farmed animals increase overtime and can be cropped. Game meat sourced in this way is also safer for human consumption as the meat is only made available to licensed outlets after both the animal and its carcass have been inspected and ensured fit for consumption. Compared to the illegal bushmeat trade that involves indiscriminate poaching of wildlife in national parks and game management areas, game farming/ranching is certainly a viable alternative. Another drawback with the illegal bushmeat industry comes from the fact that poachers often process their illegal kill in unhygienic conditions, posing a serious threat to public health. Unlicensed bushmeat is sold to members of the public who may not be sure if what they are consuming is healthy or safe. It further decreases the potential growth of tourism and the legal game-farming industry.
Another challenge is the duration of the trading permit application process which can vary depending on a range of factors such as the process of ensuring that the applicant has complied with all the necessary requirements. Samson Kandala, who has run a game meat business in Livingstone for about two years now, waited for a slightly longer period for his permit as compared to Ms Mukonge whose permit took only took three months. BLE & BOOSTER PUMPS
. TRUSTED . RELIABLE A HISTORY OF THE UNGA PEOPLE OF THE BANGWEULU SWAMPS
By Namwanja Margaret Chikwabi
Historian and educator Mutale T. Mazimba-Kaunda (MA) has crafted a fascinating and eyeopening read in A History of the Unga People of the Bangweulu Swamps (pre-colonial times to 1953). She takes us on a sweeping journey through time of this small ethnic group called the Unga who inhabit part of Luapula Province in northern Zambia. In the book, MazimbaKaunda delves into pre-colonial Unga society, the colonial experience of the Unga from 1890 and lastly, the impact of colonialism on the Unga people until 1953. So, who are the Unga and where did they come from? Originally, the Unga were a branch-off of a large family of the Ng’oma totem (drum clan), separating due to the desire for autonomy by adult males. They came from ancient Kola in presentday Kabongo, Shaba Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Their movement to present-day Bangweulu swamps was over several years and they travelled in different groups well into the 17th Century. Their initial language was likely a Luba one, but their migration resulted in them speaking a variation of Bemba with distinct intonation and phrasing. Economically, the Unga sustained themselves by hunting lechwe for food, otters for fur, crocodiles and snakes for their skins. fishing and growing crops like cassava and sweet potatoes. They also reared sheep, goats and cattle. Family ancestry in Unga society was traced through the female members of the family, much like the Bemba and Bisa who were/ are also mainly found in northern Zambia. The matrilineal system had socio-political implications when it came to succession. For example, when a king died, power was passed onto his brother and in case he had no brother, it was

passed onto his sister’s son. The king’s sons could never reign, only the sons of the women of royal blood and these woman were called Namfumu (mothers of kings). All children bore the name and clan of the mother and not the father. The history leant and institutions carried from generation to generation were of the woman. However, property and titles still went to men born from the female side of the family. Men inherited from their mother’s brothers and passed on their possessions to their sister’s children. Property ownership and inheritance in the context of marriage had its own rules. By 1900, the British colonial state was imposed on the Unga people after the two most powerful kings within their proximity, Chitimukulu and Mwata Kazembe, were subdued. Native Commissioners were employed to tour districts and collect taxes. Mazimba-Kaunda makes the point that the Unga people resisted paying taxes for many years as a way of protesting colonial rule. Some of them ended up working in the Copperbelt and Katanga mines as wage labourers. Otters were accepted as tax, lechwe were hunted on a commercial basis, and fish trading became big business, all for the benefit of the British government through the British South African Company. On page 83, the author writes: “When a census was carried out in 1907, there were 2,500 Unga people living in 800 taxable huts.” This book A History of the Unga People of the Bangweulu Swamps (pre-colonial times to 1953) is a significant and quality piece of work. This is evidenced from the clarity and depth with which the author writes and from the sources used to craft it: district notebooks, written material from the National Archives of Zambia, interviews, colonial office reports, e-books, articles, dissertations, unpublished works, etc. Accompanying

PONY maps, tables, illustrations and a bibliography make the book come alive because they add context and realness to what is presented on the way of life of the Unga people and how colonialism negatively affected them up until 1953. Mazimba-Kaunda makes the point in her introduction that the last book written about the history of the Unga was over eighty years ago and was written by a foreigner. The case is, therefore, easily made for the importance of the Zambian storyteller to be the active agent in telling the nation’s diverse stories and preserving the country’s history and culture through the written word. That such type of an undertaking should be encouraged, supported and applauded cannot be emphasized enough. There is much to appreciate

MAN ADMITS TRESPASSING ON COP’S HOUSE TO STEAL CLOTHES IMF and lenders are non partisan.
By MULENGA MUSONDA
A
34 years old businessman admitted before the Choma Magistrates Court that whilst doing his hawking business, he trespassed on a Police Officer’s premises with the intention to steal the clothes that were left on the line. In this matter Bright Kabuswe of Choma’s Kamunza Township is charged with one count of Criminal Trespass contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Kabuswe on April 14, 2021 entered the premises of Clement Mukalanga with intent to steal or annoy. When the matter came for plea before Magistrate Muyambango Munukayumbwa, Kabuswe admitted the charge and stated that he entered the premises after observing that there were clothes on the line and no one was home.
After his explanation and admission of guilty, the Court recorded a plea of guilty and allowed the State to read the Facts. According to the facts, Kabuswe was spotted by Mr Mukalanga’s neighbour elusively entering the yard. After the neighbour saw that Kabuswe stayed in the yard longer than normal, he decided to follow him and see what he was doing as he was aware that there was no one home. To his surprise he found Kabuswe with a brick trying to break the padlock to the door. He instituted a citizen arrest and took the accused person to the Police. However, the matter could not proceed into mitigation and sentencing after the State disclosed to the Court that Kabuswe was a second offender and there was need to prove this allegation. The matter was adjourned to a later date for production of past record of conviction. Kabuswe was remanded in custody.

Arrest people with fate G12 certificates Dear editor, IT is disheartening that some people particularly the politicians are in possession of the fake Grade Twelve certificates. Integrity especially among those holding the public office is cardinal in that an honest leader is always trusted by the people being led. In a nutshell, integrity is the state of being honest in whatever the person does. Many fake Grade Twelve certificates were exposed by the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) during the verification exercise for people aspiring for public office in this year's general elections. It was revealed that some people currently serving in various positions had the fake Grade Twelve certificates. On the other hand, some people
vying for political positions for the first time in this year's polls are not spared either. Being in possession of the fake Grade Twelve certificates by those seeking public office is not only disappointing but also an offence punishable by law. These leaders lack morality as a matter of fact. It is not good that some people can have the audacity of holding public office with the fake Grade Twelve certificates. The people with the fake Grade Twelve certificates committed an offence punishable by law. In view of the aforementioned, the culprits of fake Grade Twelve certificates should be prosecuted. Ultimately, this will send a strong warning to would-be offenders. ELEMIYA PHIRI Lusaka.
Importance of political education for cadres Dear editor, AS the election date draws near, the political parties as principal participants have a mammoth responsibility in the quest to drive an issue based approach as the battle for August, 2021 elections rages on. This is on the premise that the supporters of various political parties submit their unquestionable to their respective party hierarchy. This means the political parties drive the narrative which their sympathizers are without question going to carry on. What the political leaders tend to reflect in their supporters and a careful observation of some violent political party cadres traces the origin to utterances made by their leaders. In some instances, affiliation to political parties is rarely influenced or informed by ideological factors, but to achieve certain selfish ends of their founders. There are break away political parties which were formed at gunpoint and as a quest to satisfy the Presidential ambitions of their founders. There are some political parties which have been formed not on the basis of providing political alternatives but to drive their rivalry against PF President and Presidential candidate Edgar Chagwa Lungu. Sadly, even unsuspecting members have been recruited to be part of the army of citizens to drive personal battles. This unfortunate but real state of affairs is blamed on the fact that political parties have taken little time to school their supporters on their founding
principles. The Patriotic Front as the party in power has led by example in making political education a basis of seeking education. After the launch of the manifesto by President Lungu, the party and its specialized units has rolled out a number of activities meant at popularizing the manifesto. This is one of the ways of enhancing literacy among PF sympathizers on what the party intends to do once its mandate is renewed for another five years. This good cause has received support from other non-state actors including the media, our all-weather friends in service to the nation. The PF interactive forum spearheaded by the PF Media Committee has been a platform to inculcate knowledge on what the party stands for. This will have a ripple effect and with this information age, the common PF supporters will have a know-how on what the party stands for. The PF manifesto has been circulated both in hard and soft copies with the various stakeholders having unlimited access to it. We are informed a simplified version which will later be translated into local languages will soon be out and available for distribution. This is one sure way of enlightening the members on what their party stands for. This is the route worth taking and the PF must be emulated if the issue based approach will flourish toward the elections. MARVIN CHANDA Mberi. Lusaka

Readers Forum: The Column You Write
What is the basis or meaning of popularity as a measure of adoption of PF aspiring MP candidates in various constituencies?
Dear editor, WE have heard on several occasions and different forums our top PF leaders emphasising that the party will only adopt popular candidates to contest on its ticket in the forthcoming 12th August General elections. While the pronouncement sounds good and gives hope as a means of coming out victorious in these elections, of paramount concern to note is that no one has come out to clearly define what popularity means with regards to the notion that it should be used as the basis to pick candidates to stand on the Party's ticket. Yes we agree that the pop-
ularity of a candidate in the Constituency is the key element to ensure victory, but we also want to be quick and mention to the final adopting authority that they should remain vigilant and exercise maximum caution on how popularity is used and defined as the basis of adopting the candidates. We say so because there some *crooked elements in this country who know and have mastered the art of some weaknesses of our leaders and may use deceit to portray their popularity in various Constituencies just because the party emphasised on popularity as the basis of adopting candi-
dates. They would target the word popularity and come up with doctored and photoshopped images of crowds of people in an area where the population of the People living there does not resonate with the crowds of People purportedly attending their rallies, shame on them! We believe that popularity of a candidate should be a gradual process that begins with a background history of a candidate 's activities and contributions to the well-being of the people in that particular Constituency. You cannot just come in the constituency today and use
all kinds of tricks and treachery and deceive the blind by proclaiming yourself as popular in the Constituency No ! It takes time to be popular in the Constituency. If Zambia was one of the west African countries l would not want to mention the name now, the Parliament of Zambia would be full of crooksconmen and women. FACT ! ECL FOR REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT! THE appointment of Beston Chambeshi as head coach at Nkana FC could not motivate the Kitwe giants who were stunned 2-1 by Indeni as Chambeshi watched from the terraces at Nkana Stadium. Goals from defender Cephas Handavu and Tiki Chiluba gifted Indeni the win at Nkana stadium as striker Alex N’gonga missed a penalty before getting a consolation for Nkana who were handed their 13th defeat of the season. Nkana were pinned in the opening five minutes with Gravin Chitalu delivering an early scare with his header going narrowly wide. Nkana responded with N’gonga almost putting his new club ahead with a glancing header after making little contact with a Laison Thole’s cross which saw Indeni keeper Charles Luwa collect the ball. Nkana could have gone ahead in the 12th minute when N’gonga beat a defender from the left before putting in a deadly cross from Duke Abuya. Indeni finally broke the deadlock 13 minutes into the first half when defender Cephas Handavu took advantage of Nkana’s clumsy defence following a counter attack by Indeni. N’gonga won a penalty in the 16th minute but failed to convert.
