VALUE FREEDOM ZAMBIA’S 56th anniversary of independence celebrations might have been low key - what with the nation and the world at large being conscious of Covid-19 – but that should not make Zambians lose focus of the country’s aspirations and achievements. The nation marked its independence from colonial Britain on October 24, 1964 under the theme “Zambia at 56, One Land, One Nation, building our future proud and free.” It says a lot of what Zambia stands for, one land, one nation and building our future as a proud and free people. Considering what doomsayers have been saying about the country, the theme should galvanise Zambians into coming together to tackle the country’s economic and political ills. Vice President Inonge Wina aptly defined the theme when she said Zambia’s nation building is a continuous process that has to be worked for and not handed on a silver platter. Ms Wina said Zambians have to put aside their political and tribal affiliations by embracing patriotism and hard work to build a better Zambia as envisaged by the country’s founding fathers and mothers. The Vice President said this when she graced the occasion of the hoisting of the national flag ceremony on the eve of the country’s 56th independence anniversary at the Lusaka showgrounds. Like Ms Wina, we too note and appreciate that the founding fathers and freedom fighters laid a strong foundation upon which all Zambians must contribute to promoting unity, peace and development. For why should some people want to destroy something that nationalists sacrificed their lives for, an independent nation? Zambians must realise that despite all the artificial differences, they are one people and share a common destiny. North-Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu rightly observed that if there was no love, unity of purpose and clear understanding of the mission that was before the Zambian freedom fighters, Zambia as a country wouldn't be celebrating 56 years of self-rule. Mr Mubukwanu said it is for this reason that every Zambian has a moral obligation and duty to ensure that the country does not disintegrate. He said politics of hatred and division should not be given room to flourish and that the responsibility of building a better Zambia should be a collective effort of all Zambian citizens without exception. This is specially so as Zambia inches closer to the 2021 presidential and general elections. Let the violence that is being orchestrated among some of the political players be frowned upon, for that is unZambian. The uncalled for violence witnessed during the recent by-elections in some parts of the country were as a result of some political parties not wanting to operate within the parameters of the law. Respect for the law is cardinal to defending the nation’s independence. Independence was fought for to ensure that Zambians would elect their leaders by voting freely and peacefully without intimidation. “Let the Zambian flag remain a common heritage for all of us. Each one of us must, therefore, contribute to mother Zambia by cherishing the freedom struggle,” Vice President Wina said. That is a legacy all Zambians must hold on to by rejecting those political misfits who think they can cheat their way to leadership of the country.
The Chiefs’ long wait for State-built palaces By MUBANGA LUCHEMBE
MUMBWA Central UPND lawmaker Credo Nanjuwa certainly clocked up some political mileage in Chief Chibuluma’s area where he went to fulfill a pledge of iron sheets for the chief’s house. Apart from this, for whatever reasons he went calling, and most likely it was to garner grassroots support for his re-adoption bid as a parliamentary candidate in next year’s elections, his tour of duty was much publicised in one of the UPND-biased local media outlets. His most high-profile royal hosts were six chiefs – Chibuluma, Moono, Mulendema, Kabulwelwe, Kaindu and Mumba. On the chiefs’ long wait for state-built palaces in Mumbwa, Mr Nanjuwa reportedly turned the government’s stalled building of Chief Moono’s palace into an item of national scorn. In 2015, the government had embarked on the construction of 288 chiefs’ palaces throughout the country in phases due to its limited resources and varied depending on the condition of the existing infrastructure. Three palaces had so far commenced to be built by the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs in each of the 10 provinces in the first phase of the project. All these palaces were of the same design. Each palace was valued at K650, 000 but in some places, the cost came down to K350, 000 with contributions of lo-
cal people. Phase one of the project saw the construction of 30 palaces, while 50 palaces were to be built in the second phase. Given the chiefs’ long wait for state-built palaces, the Mumbwa Central lawmaker in his view suggested that if only the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) was increased enough, probably there would have been an allocation for the construction of chiefs’ palaces. Yet, each constituency is allocated K1.6 million as CDF and which is shared among the wards in any particular constituency. He suggested that if CDF was increased to around K5 million, it could have been easier to get K500, 000 for instance, and build one palace in each of the 288 chiefdoms every year. This got me thinking. Perhaps, Mr Nanjuwa was so preoccupied with grappling with his beleaguered party’s mounting political violence that he forgot to keep himself abreast of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements of the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure in cooperation with the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs to see to it that all palaces across the country got speedily upgraded before he embarked on his salvo aimed at denigrating government’s efforts. The chiefs’ housing allowance revenues could enable the contracted private partner to recover the money invested in the chiefs’ palaces project over a specified and
agreed period of time, after which ownership of the palaces would be transferred to the respective local provincial administration as institutional residences for chiefs. The concessional Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) project arrangement, which allows for greater management of resources and promotion of efficiency, appears to be one of the viable ways that the central government hopes to speedily build and maintain the chiefs’ infrastructure. Perhaps we cannot blame the UPND lawmaker for his ignorance over the BOT project management. Besides, the monarchy in Zambia was once the most powerful institution in the country with kingdoms scattered throughout the land. Then in1911 the country was declared a British protectorate. A century on and Zambia’s royalty remains a shadow of its past glory. But if anything it is seen as a collaborator in its own loss of power. Perhaps the rot started with a name-change. The title “king” became “chief” ostensibly because the colonial administration would not countenance the existence of other regents while there was a perfectly good monarch in Britain. But contemporary Zambia has not fared much better. Since independence in 1964, the country has retained the institution of chieftaincy but its authority is confined to the administration of specifically demarcated localities. Chiefs were also a key stabilising force in the provinces
because of their experience in local administration, owning and distributing land, collecting taxes and settling disputes among other functions. With the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), coming into power in 1991, however, this new-found authority of the chieftaincies began to ebb away as the establishment of the House of Chiefs was completely ignored. Since then the institution of chieftaincy had, for the most part, been significantly diluted by growing interference of successive MMD administrations in its operations. A manifestation of this was the way in which some –although not all – chiefs attempted to influence their subjects’ voting choices in elections. As a result, the governing party became heavy-handed with chiefs before the polls. It was not uncommon, for the Ministry of Local Government to threaten chiefs with probes of wrong-doing if their political loyalties were in doubt. But this deliberate politicisation of the institution of chieftaincy had the unintended consequence of considerably eroding some traditional authorities – to the point where many chiefs no longer had absolute leverage over their subjects. This was because during election time in particular, some chiefs came into direct conflict with their subjects over differing political views and affiliations. After the elections of 2011, which brought the ruling PF to power, the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs was established to restore the dignity and authority of Zambia’s royalty – indeed devolving power back to these traditional bodies.

LUSAMBO, NATHAN RECONCILE From Page 1 According to the Secretary General, it was observed that the provincial committee and the mobilization committee on the Copperbelt were not working together. Mr Mwila was speaking in Kitwe when he summoned the Provincial and Mobilisation Committees, District committee members, constituency Chairpersons, all PF Members of Parliament, PF mayors and Councilors on the Copperbelt. The SG however described the meeting which took place for about one hour thirty minutes as a fruitful one. “The differences that were surrounding the two committees have been resolved. We will now start seeing the two committees working together,” he said. According to insiders, the differences relate to the marathon mobilization tours undertaken without the involvement of the Copperbelt party structures, raising fears and insecurity in local leadership that they were being sidelined. North-Western corporate world ready to ‘deal’ with DRC By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE North-Western Chamber of Commerce Trade and Industry has indicated that the business sector in the region is now ready to do business with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Its president, Mr Mukumbi Kafuta said this is because the DRC is the nearest market and that it shares many things in common. He was speaking shortly after touring some corporate institutions which included two mines as well aa a meeting with some senior government officials from the DRC in Lubumbashi, Mr Kafuta said this was the more reason why the chamber in cooperation with the Congolese embassy in Zambia facilitated the trade mission to DRC. "What is important for now is to have more rapport between the business sector in both countries. Otherwise, we are very ready to start trade with the DRC especially Katanga and Lualaba regions," Mr Kafuta said. He said that despite some bottlenecks, the business sector will continue engaging both governments to try and address them because up to now, a lot of companies still feel insecure to do formal trade where they can be able to export various goods directly to DRC. He lobbied both governments to address the bottlenecks that are hindering massive trade between the two countries.
ed peace and unity from the two parties going forward. And PF Copperbelt Provincial Chairman Nathan Chanda said that the members of the party would move as a united force. Mr Chanda said the provincial leadership would not allow a few elements who may want to take advantage of misunderstandings in the party to succeed. “Indiscipline and lawlessness will not be allowed from anyone. We want to work together with the mobilisation committee,” he said. Meanwhile, Copperbelt Mobilisation Committee Chairperson Bowman Lusambo said the committee would continue supplementing efforts of the provincial committee. “As mobilisation committee, we are assuring you that going forward, our aim will be to get all the 22 MPs on the Copperbelt to parliament in 2021,” he said. The SG was accompanied by the Chairperson for National Mobilisation Committee Richard Musukwa and Chairperson for Elections Yamfywa Mukanga. - NATION REPORTER/#SMARTEAGLES2020.

IRRESPONSIBLE PRIEST BLASTED PF denounces Fr Luonde’s ‘irresponsible’ remarks
By SIMON MUNTEMBA

T is irresponsible and folly of Father Richard Luonde to call on Zambians to rise against the legitimately elected Government, the Patriotic Front (PF) has said. PF Lusaka Province secretary, Kennedy Kamba said the party was not happy with the behaviour and utterances of Fr Luonde attacking Government and President Edgar Lungu for nothing. He was reacting to re-
marks in one of the daily tabloids attributed to Fr. Luonde where he is quoted as having called on Zambians to rise up against President Lungu’s regime. Fr Luonde said NDC leader, Chishimba Kambwili’s conviction was schemed and executed by the PF, and called on Zambians to rise against the ruling party for what he termed as a “dictatorship Government.” Mr Kamba in an interview said it was disappointing that Fr Luonde who is a cler-
gyman could issue such irresponsible remarks against Government. “We are very disappointed with the behaviour and utterances of Fr Luonde attacking President Lungu and Government. It is irresponsible of him to incite Zambians to rise against the legitimately elected government,” Mr Kamba said. He urged Fr Luonde to be objective and not link President Edgar or the PF to Kambwili’s conviction because they had nothing to

STOP BORROWING, JCTR IMPLORES GOVERNMENT By SIMON MUNTEMBA GOVERNMENT must pursue fiscal consolidation and stop further borrowing to avoid the country finding itself in a debt crisis over and over again, says the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR). JCTR executive director, Father Alex Muyebe said it was not the first time that Zambia had found herself in a debt crisis, but advised Government to learn from experience to avoid facing similar challenges. In his message to commemorate Zambia’s 56 years of independence, Fr. Muyembe said the country was still economically dependent. Fr. Muyembe in a statement to the Sunday Nation said the JCTR was deeply concerned with the rapidly weakening economy which was jeopardising the economic and social justice of the ordinary citizens. He said Zambia's total external debt stock which stood at US$27 billion was worrying as it was equivalent to the country's GDP. Further, he said, the fiscal deficit, the inflation rate and the depreciation of the currency are on the rise. “This is not the first time Zambia has found herself in

a debt crisis. Government must learn from these experiences and come up with a lasting solution to avoid finding ourselves in this same bad place over and over again. Government must pursue fiscal consolidation and stop further borrowing,” Fr Muyembe said. Further, he said, Government must put in place a transparent debt contraction mechanism and a robust and workable debt management and debt sustainability strategy. Meanwhile, Fr. Muyembe has implored Government to take a lead in sensitising the people to reject all forms of violence in society. He said over the last 56 years of independence, Zambia has enjoyed the long earned reputation of peace on the continent and beyond, but JCTR was concerned with the rate of political violence threatening the long earned reputation. He also called for adoption of transformative and servant leadership model at all levels of governance in society. Fr. Muyembe said all the wealth and resources divinely endowed on Zambia was meant for the benefit and the welfare of all the Zambian people without any discrimination.
Sakala are charged with theft contrary to Section 278 of the penal code Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia. They were appearing for commencement of trial before magistrate Kabwe Tembo. Particulars of the matter are that the duo stole a cell phone belonging to Chabo Mpeza. They are also alleged to have
later electronically transferred K350 from an ABSA account belonging to the complainant using a mobile account on one of the Sim cards in the phone. The incident is said to have happened on August 1, this year. The mobile phone was an Infinix note 7 and was valued at K4, 900.00. The court heard
Mr Kamba do with it. Mr Kamba said Mr Kambwili committed crimes and the law caught up with him. “In fact, it is not the PF or President Lungu who reported Kambwili to court, it was his fellow opposition leader, Chilufya Tayali. Now, why is Fr. Luonde blaming PF and inciting Zambians to rise against President Lungu? That is being irresponsible,” Mr Kamba said.
that the phone has not been recovered. The court also heard that the complainant lost the phone while he was having a meal and beverages at a bar and restaurant in Chongwe between 17:00 hours and 22:00 hours. The court adjourned the matter to November 16 for commencement of trial while the accused is on bail awaiting his next appearance in court.

Leading several Lusaka residents at the ceremony, Ms Wina said the theme “Zambia at 56, One Land, One Nation, building our future proud and free” was inspiring in that Zambians have remained united and shared destiny despite their different tribal affiliations. She said that the founding fathers and freedom fighters laid a strong foundation upon which all Zambians must contribute to promoting unity, peace and devel-
opment. Ms Wina has since challenged Zambians to respect and honour the national flag as it is a symbol of the Zambian territory and a common heritage which has been hoisted 56 times in the country's 56-year history. “Let the Zambian flag remain a common heritage for all of us. Each one of us must, therefore, contribute to mother Zambia by cherishing the freedom struggle” she said. Ms Wina said the national flag should inspire all Zambians to protect the country’s environment in the face of climate change and diligently use the natural resources such as copper and gold to develop the country for the benefit of all. She noted that while the act of hoisting the Zambian flag at independence remains an indelible mark of freedom, to the country’s freedom fighters, it was a victory that marked a turning point in their history of struggle for self-determination, sovereignty and dignity. - ZANIS. – ZANIS.

UNZA Council, UNZALARU debt dispute rages
THE University of Zambia Council has admitted deducting monthly employees’ contributions but says it will subject University of Zambia Lecturers and Researchers Union (UNZALARU) to strict proof as to what is owed. Last month, UNZALARU sued the University Council in the Lusaka High Court demanding K4.5 million arising from arrears of unremitted union contributions.
The union is demanding interest, costs and incidentals to the proceedings. But in defence, the University Council agreed that it entered into a recognition agreement with the union in March 23, 1993 and that it had been deducting from employees monthly union contributions. However, the University Council denied owing K4.5 million as claimed by the union and that it would sub-

Dr Kelvin Mambwe, the UNZALARU general secretary, said in March 1993, the union entered into an agreement with the University Council which was entrusted with the role of collecting union contributions from the members through direct monthly deductions from their salaries. He stated that the UNZA Council had not been remit-

PRIVATISATION INQUIRY SHOULD SERIOUSLY TACKLE CONFLICT OF INTEREST Dear Editor
W
E are so delighted that President Edgar Lungu has lent us his highly secured listening ear and granted the wish of the majority of youths who requested for the Commission of Inquiry into the privatisation process. Although the issue is now under his watchful eye for careful study of President Lungu for further action and consideration, we are very confident that the privatization ghost will be exhumed in order to appreciate the role played by self-proclaimed men of integrity. The privatisation issue is a multifaceted one but our plea is that attention will be given to specific issues related to
conflict of interest by greedy politicians who ruthlessly slaughtered the proceeds of their advantage to the detriment of the people of Zambia. We pray the terms of reference will specifically address the issues we raised when we demanded for Commission of Inquiry. To be specific, our interest is about conflict of interest, the sale of RAMCOZ, Intercontinental Hotel, Liquidation of Lima Bank among others. We cannot allow the privatisation millionaire now turned politician to misuse the veil of their Presidential ambitions as a gateway to evade accountability for their privatisation sins. We say so in view that leaving privatisation story unattended to will create bad
Dear Editor, LOOKING at the amount of uncollected garbage in Lusaka’s central business district (CBD) chances of avoiding cholera are very thin. With rains coming next month, we seem to have no chance of doing the needful. It is a big shame that people have continued to throw garbage on the aisles gracing our roads in the CBD,
precedence which will make rogues to be seeking Presidential ambitions As Zambians may recall, during the swearing in of former Director of Public Prosecutions State Counsel Mutembo Nchito, then President Michael Sata, the founding father of the PF, guidance was given on the need to probe the named opposition leader who allegedly heavily profited from the disposal of state resources. It therefore makes no political sense to argue that President Lungu is bent at fixing the named opposition leader (who had 15 years experience in losing Presidential elections) historical demands for the inquiry can be traced from the pre-ECL Presidency. We have no ill will against the perceived political foe,
ours is to put this protracted political debate to rest. We only want those who have converted the once productive towns on the Copperbelt into ghost towns to give their side of the story. It is also for their own good if they confessed their involvement in the illicit transactions as President Lungu is a forgiving leader who can easily give them the second chance to mend their relationship with aggrieved citizens. As we put the last nail on the coffin of the seasoned losing Presidential candidate, we vow not to rest without letting him pay for his corporate ills. Zambians must be assured that Inquiry is not targeting anyone save for suspected criminals that abused the trust of Zambians who retained their expertise at the time they were needed the most. Moreover, no election in Zambia can President Lungu lose for as long as he appears on the ballot paper, he will be overwhelmingly be supported. MARVIN CHANDA MBERI, Youth Rights Activist, Lusaka.
GOVERNMENT should know that to develop the country we should remember that Zambia is an agricultural country as most areas have good water supply and fertiliser. We have enough fertile land and good rainfall pattern so we can feed the entire southern and central Africa. Government through the ministries of Agriculture and Livestock must invest more. As a nation we can make money in agriculture and livestock than we can make on copper. The other thing we have to look at is crop diversification. Crop diversification, once fully maximised will contribute positively to the wealth creation and boost people’s livelihood with addition to other crop that have the potential to generate income and stimulate to development. AGRCULTURE Maize is one of the major crops grown in Zambia, but other crops need to be recognised as well. Other crops that we need to focus more are millet, sorghum, rice, beans, soya beans, nuts, wheat and cassava. Zambian has the potential not only to attain lasting food security but to become a regional agriculture hub and global exporter of processed agricultural products. Agriculture presently contributes 15 percent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Therefore agriculture remains vital to employment and rural livelihoods as 70 percent of the labour force works in agriculture. That’s why the Ministry of Agriculture needs to encourage the farmers to grow more food. The Lima credit programme started by ZNFU in partnership with Zambia National Commercial Bank (Zanaco) to address issues affecting small-scale farmers whose particular challenges includes, loans, fertiliser and improved seeds for the farm produce should be encouraged in all provinces. The other one is Lima Chuma which means “Cultivating Prosperity” is a holistic programme
CHOLERA KNOCKING ON OUR DOORS especially Lumumba which now stinks as swarms of wet green flies continue to make their home there. It is unthinkable how Lusaka which is already the Covld-19 epicentre will escape the jaws of cholera if the situation remains as it is. I was shocked the other day to
witness how the area around former Stanley Bar on Lumumba Road has been turned into a huge roadside bar where everything happens. Beers of various descriptions, colours and sizes are the order of the day while other patrons consume nshima cooked on the pavements
of the same road in most unhygienic conditions. There are no toilets around and you can only guess how those people answer calls of nature. With the suspension of our council, the situation becomes even more precarious and what a com-
designed to empower our rural farmers. LIVESTOCK The livestock sector needs only two things to surpass crop production. Firstly disease prevention and secondly the fight against stock theft should be taken seriously. Government should consider revising some policies in the livestock sector that negatively affect the country’s capacity to export to the regional markets. Addressing such policies will enable easy access to veterinary services among livestock farmers. The old policies in livestock have resulted in farmers suffering from escalating cost of vaccines and poor access to veterinary services translating in reduced livestock. The disease situation in Zambia has led to limited export opportunities thereby reducing the potential contribution to foreign exchange. Livestock farmers require support by putting in place appropriate and sustainable policies as well as support services. Problems that hinder commercial beef production in Zambia. traditional A. Most farmers keep animals for prestige and they are reluctant to sell. B. Poor quality meat because the quality is not controlled. C. Poor cattle management leading to over grazing in disease infected areas. D. Most cattle farmers stay very far from the market centers. There are two measures that should be taken by the government and cooperating partners to improve beef production and supply in Zambia. A. Educating farmers on the importance of quality rather than quantity. B. Veterinary officers should start going to assisting cattle owners and attending to animals. C. Provision of markets and cold storage such as Zambeef and Kachema Suppliers. KENNEDY MUNYEMESHA.

‘UHURU’ SPIRIT SAVES THIEF FROM CELLS By MULENGA MUSONDA
A
26-YEAR-OLD man was saved by the bell when the court thought it was wise to give him a suspended sentence because the country was in a joyous independence celebration mood. In this matter, Killan Sinaluti, who was appearing before Resident Magistrate
Ethel Phiri on the eve of independence charged with theft of a bicycle escaped seeing the inside of a prison cell at the 11th hour because the country was celebrating its independence anniversary. Particulars of the offence are that Sinaluti on October 12 stole a bicycle valued at K1, 965 belonging to Mr Lumuno Hachizani.
When the matter came up for plea in court, Sinaluti said he understood and pleaded guilty to the charge read to him through an interpreter in Tonga. According to the facts dictated by Public Prosecutor Pearson Chilumbu, the accused stole the bicycle from Mr Hachizani’s son who had been sent into town to buy some home provisions. The matter was reported to Choma Police Station where Detective Justin Kainga carried out investigations and apprehend the suspect. In passing the 12 months sentence with hard labour, Magistrate Phiri made it known to the accused person that he was lucky that the country was celebrating its independence and hence she would not send him to Prison. She thus suspended the sentence for 24 months.
CALL BOY CONVICTED OF DRUG TRAFFICKING By MULENGA MUSONDA A CALL-BOY who caused hysterical laughter in court by claiming that “smoking marijuana helps him call for customers without feeling shy,” has been jailed for one year, suspended for two years. Twenty-three-year-old Pumulo Kashweka of Choma’s Mwapona Township appeared before Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri. Kashweka during plea told the magistrate that even at that particular time (in court) he felt shy standing before her because he had not smoked. This was in a case in which Kashweka was charged with trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Particulars of the offence are that Kashweka on October 1, 2020 trafficked in 712 grams of Marijuana a herbal product of Cannabis Sativa without lawful authority or medical recommendation.
When he appeared for Facts before Ms Phiri, he understood and admitted that the statement read to him was a true reflection of what transpired on that particular day of October 1. According to the facts dictated by Public Prosecutor Coillard Sikwalulwa, the accused was apprehended by a team of Drug Enforcement Commission Officers at a bar in the Central Business District of Choma after being tipped that an unnamed person was selling controlled drugs in public. Kashweka pleaded with the court to exercise maximum lenience stating that he had learnt his lesson looking at the days he spent at remand where they slept whilst sitted as a result of congestion. Magistrate Phiri sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment but suspended the sentence for 24 months. She further committed Kashweka to 45 days community Service and in default to serve three months simple imprisonment.

Hanakalambo denied the charge compelling the court to record a plea of not guilty. The matter was adjourned to November 3 for trial after Public Prosecutor Dexter Kwalela applied for an adjournment. Hanakalambo was remanded in custody.
In another court, a Choma businessman, aged 28, is appearing in the Choma Magistrates Court on accusations of stealing a cow. Goodluck Munsaka of Choma’s Mwapona Township has been charged with stock theft contrary to the Laws of Zambia. Madrid win El Clasico REAL Madrid beat Barcelona in an entertaining El Clasico behind closed doors. Federico Valverde smashed Real, who had lost their previous two games, into the lead from Karim Benzema's pass. Barcelona's Ansu Fati, 17, levelled from Jordi Alba's cross, becoming the youngest goal scorer in El Clasico history. Sergio Ramos scored from the spot after he was fouled by Clement Lenglet and Luka Modric smashed in a late third. The result takes Real top of the fledgling La Liga table with 13 points from six games, six points above Barcelona. – BBC.

INDENI EXPOSED …as Idris Mbombo gifts Nkana 18th Charity Shield title
By MICHAEL MIYOB
I
DRIS Mbombo exposed Indeni FC weaknesses and gifted Nkana their 18th Samuel “Zoom” Ndlovu Charity Shield title after he scored a first half brace to help the Kitwe giants’ triumph 2-0 in yesterday’s final at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe. Indeni, who were bubbling with confidence after winning the “Big Six” preseason tournament which consisted of teams such as hosts Napsa Stars, Zanaco, Green Buffaloes, Forest Rangers and Green Eagles were exposed by Nkana who dominated play from the first whistle. Nkana had the first chance to break the deadlock in as early as the eighth minute
with Fred Tshimenga sending his shot off target. Indeni responded with striker Martin Zila fluffing his chance after shooting from outside the 18-yard box. Former under-20 striker Patrick Gondwe was unlucky as his first shot on goal came off the post in the 18th minute. Mbombo finally broke the deadlock ten minutes before the half hour mark when he tapped in Patrick Gondwe’s assist to expose Indeni’s clumsy defence. The Congolese international completed his brace with a spectacular bicycle kick after Gondwe’s shot on goal was parried away by goal keeper Charles Lawu as the first half ended 2-0 in favour of “Kalampa.” In the second half, coach Dabid Chilufya made some
changes for Indeni who went on to give a more relaxed Nkana a tough game but failed to catch up as Nkana held on to the 2-0 lead to lift the Charity Shield. “It’s a good game and it has exposed us and I now know where to start from when we resume training. I have seen the weaknesses which we have to work on,” said Chilufya after the final whistle. Meanwhile Nkana coach Manfred Chabinga praised his team for not underrating Indeni who were coming from the National Division one league, to bag their 18th Charity Shield title.

Ethiopia seek revenge over Zambia By MICHAEL MIYOBA AFTER giving up a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 to the Chipolopolo on Thursday, Ethiopia will today seek vengeance when they take on Zambia in another international friendly match at Addis Ababa Stadium. The game presents Chipolopolo coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic another opportunity to fine-tune his squad ahead of the AFCON qualifiers against Botswana and the CHAN tournament slated for next January in Cameroon. “Micho” who travelled with 23 local bullets for the Adiss Ababa expedition is expected to make changes to his squad which came from behind twice to edge Ethiopia on Thursday. Meanwhile, Chipolopolo striker Emmanuel Chabule is hopeful for another victory at Addis Ababa Stadium when the Chipolopolo face Ethiopia. Chabula said the Chipolopolo will attack Ethiopia as a different team from the one they beat on Thursday. The Nkwazi FC striker however said the Chipolopolo will have to avoid coming from behind to stop the pressure which
comes with playing with a goal down. “We will face them like we are playing them for the first time this time around it will be a difeferent ball game so we just have to come up strong again and work on the mistakes we made in the first game because it wasn’t good coming from behind,” Chabula said. Chabula said it will be nice playing at Addis Ababa Stadium for the second time after the team struggled to settle in the first game played on Thursday due to the long grass. “Now we know how the ball moves despite the stadium having long grass, which is an advantage to us,” Chabula said. With Albert Kangwanda having impressed with a brace in the 3-2 victory on Thursday, the young Kafue Celtics striker who is on loan at Zanaco FC is expected to start today having been a super sub in the last game. “Micho” is also expected to make changes in goal having tried out Lameck Siame who failed to keep a clean sheet on Thursday. Defenders Kondwani Chiboni, Zachariah Chilongoshi are expected to start while Kelvin Kampamba, Bruce Musakanya and Chaniza Zulu are expected to give the team stability in midfield as Chabula and Friday Samu are set to partner upfront.

BOGUS DOCTOR WORKS AT PARI FOR 7 MONTHS A TOTALLY bogus doctor, a young man without a medical qualification to his name, worked in the Parirenyatwa casualty unit for seven months until Tuesday this week, accepted by staff, security and patients simply because he wore a white coat and carried a stethoscope. Admire Chisi (25) was finally rumbled when the head of casualty took an interest, found the young man was remarkably ignorant, investigated and called the police, who took him away on charges of impersonating a public officer although other charges may be laid. It is unlikely that he was paid, but that is not yet certain. But what concerns a lot of people is how human resources, security and hospital administration generally could
admit him into the building, let alone allow him to deal with patients, for so long. Chisi took advantage of the doctors’ strike and the general staff shortage in the health sector to penetrate the hospital system in April this year, although that was when there was a tight lockdown and security had been supposedly tightened. But the increased pressure on senior medical staff might explain why it took so long to figure out he was a very bad doctor if qualified. Parirenyatwa Hospital yesterday issued a statement confirming Chisi was a fake doctor and that they had handed him over to the police. “On October 20 2020, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals discovered that the
Accident and Emergency Department had been infiltrated by a fake medical doctor who posed as a physician registrar. “The matter was discovered after our vigilant casualty staff doubted his medical proficiency and made some inquiries. The suspect has been handed over to the police who are now handling the matter,” reads the statement. However, labour lawyers, medical experts and other commentators questioned how the hospital could enjoy the services of a bogus doctor for seven months. They blasted the leadership for failing to properly supervise staff while the security section of the institution was criticised for laxity. B- METRO
Goblins bed family members AMID witchcraft allegations and death threats, a Zimunya couple has done the unthinkable. They have told their relatives to maintain a 250-metre distance from them at all times. The couple, Stanford and Eunice Mutambanengwe, are being accused of possessing goblins that are allegedly sexually abusing their male and female relatives in Dambakurimwa Village. After receiving death threats from their relatives, the Mutambanengwes have now dragged their five cousins to Mutare Civil Court to seek protection. Stanford’s cousins — Hardwork, Dontworry, Oncemore, Forget and Betty Mutambanengwe — last week appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Notebulgar Muchineripi.
Stanford begged the court to order his cousins to keep a distance of at least 250 metres from his family. He said his cousins are in the habit of visiting his homestead armed with axes, bows and arrows; threatening to kill his family. “They want to kill us. They always threaten to wipe out my family. They have made several attempts on my family’s lives and we are now living in fear. They accuse us of being sorcerers and having a hand in the deaths of other family members,” said Stanford. He described the five as very dangerous people who are capable of inflicting harm on his family. “They should not visit my home anymore. I do not want to see them at all. They claim that they are being terrorised at night by my
goblins, yet I do not possess any. I am a God fearing person,” said the man. In response, the five said they have no problem staying away from Stanford’s family. They, however, begged for a reduction of the distance to be maintained between them, arguing that some local paths pass close the couple’s homestead. They also argued that the protection order should be a binding one, claiming that Stanford and his wife are also violent. “They cannot bar us from talking to Stanford’s siblings as those are majors,” said Dontworry. Ms Muchineripi granted a binding over protection order to seven family members. She ordered the feuding parties to always keep a distance of 50 metres from
each other to ensure peace. - THE MANICA POST
Woman catches daughter pants down A WOMAN from Bulawayo went berserk after she stumbled on a teenager performing sexual acts on her naked daughter. Worried about that the woman followed and shockingly caught her daughter lying on a bed naked. Woman mortified after texting family groupchat about her ‘hook up’ by mistake THE woman shared the screenshots showing her parents furious response after she accidentally messaged them to say that she was about to hook up with someone at university. Sending a message to a wrong number can really ruin your day. Especially if its your parents and you’re giving them information that you didn’t really plan too. It’s an easy mistake to make if you’ve had a few drinks or are distracted - as it appears this woman might have been. On TikTok, user Avemay shared her parents’ furious responses after she accidentally messaged them. It’s fair to say that they really weren’t impressed by the content of the message. In fact, it’s possible that they’re currently driving to her university to pick her up and bring her home. Her video describing what has happened has gone viral, with nearly 500,000 views. Avemay captioned the hilarious clip: “The most awkward morning of my life.” The screen shows a groupchat filled with Avemay, her mum and her dad. She wrote: “When you text the family groupchat for ~permission to hu[hookup] with a boy~ when you’re blackout.” In it, she messaged: “I’m bout to hook up with this kid. Is it fine.” Her parents immediately responded with her mum blasting: “What?? Avery BEHAVE!! Were you hacked?” Her dad added: “Huuuuuh. Whatttt? Kidddding. Not Funny. ????” Avery mistakenly responded: “Did u leave?” before catching on and adding: “Sorry wrong person.” Lots of people sympathised in the comments, with one woman advising: “Girl just say it was a prank!!” - MIRROR

GLOBAL FILM DISTRIBUTOR SNATCHES ‘BLACK DOLLAR’ By TERENCE MISELO
T
HE Zambian film enthusiasts might have to wait a little longer before they see the highly publicised and professionally acclaimed movie, ‘Black Dollar’ from local cinemas. This is because the locally-produced movie featuring some of the country’s top actors has attracted the attention of most of the world’s best film distributors willing to pay a lot more millions of dollars to own the distribution rights and command when and where to access the film for public viewing. Although this could suggest bad news for Zambian film followers who might want to see the movie as
soon as it is released, it is definitely good news for the industry, particularly the producers Kazadi Films working in collaboration with Hot Media House. Having a film distributed by an international and independent distributor entails growth, exposure to the world market and a huge gross income return for the production crew. This is mainly because international distributors would ensure the movie is viewed strictly for business. As such, they would control distribution and avoid any form of piracy until such a time a movie makes a profit. But what does this mean for ‘Black Dollar’? According to an insider from the production house, ‘Black Dollar’ has been
sold to an undisclosed distributor and it might take over 12 months to have the film in our local cinemas. However, the producers are keen to treat a few selected individuals and industry influencers including government officials to a highly restricted private screening session and premiere. This according to the source is to motivate the actors and producers to seek professionalism for a film to make huge returns and also expose key players in the industry to a highly professional production that cost the producers close to one million US Dollars. “The distributor has paid for the film already, the production company has recovered all its production costs and has also made a reason-
able profit,” the source said. “Definitely Zambians will see the movie after the distributors have made their returns.” Shot in Zambia over a period of 12 to 13 months ‘Black Dollar’ premiers exclusively in Zambia on November 14th at an undisclosed venue after which, it remains in the hands of the distributor who might possibly take it to one of the biggest international screening platforms. Who knows? “Like any other huge movie produced, the main purpose is to make good money out of it as it is costly to produce a movie. The movie attracting an international distributor means more revenue for our country and great exposure,” concluded the source.

HEN talking about job searching in Zambia, one of the lines you are certain to hear is “you need to know someone to get a job.” This is especially true for sectors like environmental conservation, where networking and making important professional contacts are often the most important component of a successful job search.
While this may not be issue for established professionals who are just looking to move from one organization to another, it is certainly a mammoth task for students and those looking to join the conservation space. Without anyone to give them proper career advice, it is easy for students studying various courses within the field of conservation to feel a little lost and disillusioned. That is why in August 2018, Wildlife Crime Prevention and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife launched Zambia’s first Conservation Careers Fair, a platform for students to interact and connect with established professionals who work in various conservation organizations. The Conservation Careers Fair aims to cultivate an environment that encourages inspired young Zambians to participate in conservation and to show them that conservation can be a rewarding and viable career path. The inaugural event, which was held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, brought together over 20 conservation organizations and more than 500 students from the country’s top universities and colleges. Due to the increasing need for more networking opportunities for Zambia’s next generation of conservationists and the overwhelming responses that followed the 2018 event, the Conservation Careers Fair is now an annual event. In keeping with the Covid-19 times where major events are happening virtually, this year’s Conservation Careers Fair was held online through Facebook Live and YouTube. The Virtual Conservation Careers Fair 2020, held under the theme: Adaptability for survival – for job seekers & organizations, opened with a keynote talk by Ministry of Tourism and Arts Permanent Secretary Dr Auxilia Ponga. In her address, the PS called on the youth to
CONSERVATION CAREERS FAIR: Inspiring Zambia’s Next Generation of Conservationists
identify opportunities and bring refresh approaches to solving the many conservation challenges that Zambia faces. “We face rapid population growth, expanding agriculture and infrastructure, and globalized demand for
natural resources. All of these are exciting potential careers paths. One exciting thing about this year’s event is that it was not a one-day affair. It was spread over a period of four days from Monday 5th
October to Thursday 8th October, with morning and afternoon sessions. The sessions featured inspirational talks and career advice from prominent local and international conservationists, spotlight exhibitions of some
of the wonderful efforts being made by various conservation organizations to protect Zambia’s ecosystems and the wildlife they hold. The sessions also featured master classes given by recruitment experts on topics like “Everything you need to know to get the job”, “Got the job, now what?”, which provided an insight into employment opportunities for young Zambians. Zambia faces many conservation challenges that require young minds and a fresh approach. This makes inspiriting and boosting the confidence of bright young Zambians, the future of conservation, cardinal. For this to happen, young people need to know what a career in conservation looks like, who their potential employers are and some of the pressing issues the conservation sector is grappling with. Some of the challenges facing conservation require an interdisciplinary approach. That is why when we talk about jobs in conservation we are not only referring to traditional professions like ecology and environmental education. It is becoming increasingly common to find lawyers, communicators, teachers, marketers, veterinary doctors and many others from different professions
rendering their expertise to the conservation sector. Some of the inspirational talks shared at the 2020 Virtual Conservation Careers Fair include “From the African Savannah to Capitol Hill” a chat with Jimmiel Mandima - Deputy Vice President of Conservation at International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), “The business of conservation: private sector wildlife management” a chat with Chanda Mwale - Operations Manager at Wildlife Producers Association of Zambia, and a Masterclass on Getting the Job: Everything you need to know about CVs and Cover Letters by Emma Harvey. Anyone who is passionate about protecting Zambia’s ecosystems and its abundant wildlife can access these inspiring and insightful video resources on the Conservation Careers Zambia website and on its Facebook and YouTube pages. In addition to the Conservation Careers Fair, which has become an unmissable calendar event in the Zambian conservation space, Wildlife Crime Prevention teamed up with ARC Zambia to create a dedicated jobs board were job seekers can find the latest conservation and environmental jobs within Zambia and the region.

ACTOR MOSES KAMBO ‘DRASQO’ KASONGO, ASPIRES TO EXCEL FAMILY PASSION
A
T 35 years, he is a civil engineer, an experienced musician and renowned actor. But his passion is acting and he already regards himself as one of the greatest entertainer ever lived. Meet Moses Kambo Kasongo, Aka ‘DRASQO’ who has so far won many accolades as a dancer but now aspires to grow into one of Zambia’s greatest actors, but course inspired by his “artist” parents. Reporter Mwansa Pintu recently spoke to Mr. Kasongo and the following is a verbatim transcript of the interview. 1. Tell us
about yourself, where you grew up and what family life was like? I was born and bred in Lusaka, in the heart of Kaunda Square Stage 2 . I attended primary school at Tunduya Basic School in Lusaka, and secondary school at Munali, then studied Architecture at the Northern Technical College (NOTEC) in Ndola. I’m the second born of 7. I was raised by both my parents. My family life was extra ordinary because both my parents were artists, specifically dancers. They where part of the Zambia National
Dance Troop but they are now retired. I grew up in an environment full of entertainment, art and culture. We basically we did a lot of dancing and singing practice as a family and it surely brought us together up to until now. We’ve been part of the Zambian entertainment industry from a long time ago. 2. What led you into acting, and what are some of the plays, movies and/or adverts that you have featured in? I was introduced to the Entertainment Industry at birth (laughs). My parents told me funny stories about my character as a child and I also realised I could actually dance early 1999 . However, I got introduced to a bigger audience in 2001 after I formed a group called “THE DRAGON FAMILY”. It was the beginning of success. We participated in 28 dancing competition and never lost any of them. Our biggest achievement was when we won the AMANITA Dancing Competition, then Zambia’s biggest dancing competitions, and won K5000 (5million in 2005). I later featured in a film called KAWANU which aired on the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and later on the Zambezi Magic channel. I did television shows like DANCE FEVER, adverts like the CHEESE
CURLS, BOOM PASTE, and in 2008, I represented Zambia in the Channel O Dance Africa Competition in South Africa. I am currently an actor in ZUBA, one of Zambia’s mostly watched shows.
3. What makes you happy about being an actor and, what has been your experience in acting so far? Ooh yes! Much of the happiness in the acting sector comes from interacting with the legends in the industry and being able to learn from them. Being an actor is like doing what you really enjoy and been paid for doing it. Being an actor is an amazing experience because it opens many doors and opportunities for you. It gives you an opportunity to meet and know people from different walks of life. 4. Who has been your strongest influence in your acting career? My parents of course. I mean what do you expect having been born from two artists! They have been very supportive too. 5. What has been your most memorable acting experience so far? My most memorable experience was the action scene when I fought with “the starring” and I took the victory (laughs). 6. Tell us about your family. Would you like any of your children to follow in your acting career steps? My family is amazing got a wife and
kids two boys now. Its a crazy house when ever we are home on weekends, Well if my family or my children should follow my foot steps in the entertainment cycles? Mmmm......huh! I mean if I naturally influenced and inspired them to go that direction, so shall it be (laughs). I would give them my support. 7. How would your friends and acquaintances describe you? People have their own perspective of other people. I wouldn’t really know what exactly they think of me but that is not to say that I have not head some people talk about the good and the bad side of me before. Of course, you expect that when you are in the limelight but then, truth be told that, I respect the other people’s views about me because you cannot impress everyone. Just never forget to separate “the snakes” from your real friends. 8. What would you do differently if you had a chance to go back? I would build my father a culture village, something he has always wanted to own. 9. What are your future plans? I consider myself as work in progress. There is a lot I need to work on and quickly mastering my scripts is just but one of the things on my list just a list. (laughs) I have a lot to learn and change (laughs). I am a family man now. My future plans are dedicated to the well being of my family,
