Each year we fill our publications with stunning photography of our favorite projects from recent years and the 2024 Landscape Design Lookbook is no exception. This year, however, not only did we want to show you images of the many different types and levels of projects that we take on, but we also wanted to give you a sense of what it would be like to work with Gasper on your next project. So, to that end, we have also included a sampling of what our homeowners had to say about working with us, in their own words. These mini testimonials come from unsolicited letters we are sent after projects are completed, online reviews, as well as direct interviews we conduct with our homeowners for quality control. As the owner, I have to admit there is nothing that makes me happier than to hear that our clients are beyond happy with our work. Who knows? The origins of Gasper Landscape Design & Construction began in 1987 when owner Bob Gasper, a self-taught plant enthusiast and designer, landscaped his first home in Holland, PA, the results of which impressed many of his friends and neighbors. Soon more and more homeowners were hiring him to landscape their yards, and Gasper Landscape Design & Construction was created. Today, Bob oversees the entire Gasper organization, which includes the Landscape Construction division, a retail garden center and nursery, a nationally recognized casual furniture store, and a hardscape and building supply store. Keeping it in the family, Bob’s wife, Paula, and their children, Dana and Bob, work and lend their expertise to the company’s landscape and retail divisions.

The Gaspers pride themselves on their love of their family business and their accomplishments in becoming an award-winning and community-loved company. The Gasper family has created a team of sales designers, landscape designers and architects, seasoned craftsmen, carpenters, masons, and horticulturalists who continue to support Bob and Paula’s original vision of delivering top-notch customer service and quality built landscapes.

Gasper had everything all under one roof, which was important to us when choosing a contractor.

We both work and it minimized the number of contacts we had to deal with. I was able to make one phone call, instead of several. I did not have to find a Landscape Architect and an Interior designer.

What is design-build?

A professional design-build firm like Gasper can provide its clients with creative design AND quality construction. Design-build firms have several advantages (which can save both time and money) over those that provide design services only. Design-build saves time because homeowners can streamline their projects with a single company instead of coordinating multiple companies. It saves money because the proposed project costs are known much earlier in the design process, allowing for value engineering of projects to avoid costly design revisions.

Do not think you will sacrifice design quality by choosing a design-build company. At Gasper, our team of professionally trained and accredited landscape designers and PA-licensed landscape architects have decades of experience with any style or size of landscape, hardscape, or carpentry project.

CONSTRUCTION PROCESS

One of the things we like about working with Gasper is that we always received notifications and good communication about scheduling. You don’t want surprises when working with a contractor. Gasper was upfront about their scheduling. And once they started, they were here every day until they finished. This has not been our experience with other contractors.

One thing that really struck me was that Erik told us ‘We will not start the job until we have all the pieces.’ And he was true to his word. What this means is that once they started our project, they were able to work continuously on our job. I would say that over the two months that it took to construct our project, the crews were only off site on one day, and that was because of torrential rain.

Another thing that I really appreciated was that they were neat. I usually have to clean up after contractors to make sure the dog doesn’t get into anything, but they did a great job of cleaning up every night. There was no trash.

WHAT CLIENTS SAY ABOUT GASPER BEING A ONE STOP SHOP

It was good that Gasper is a big company. It was all-in-one. They do the design and the construction, and they also do the design for the furniture.

I really appreciated that it was one-stop shopping … the design … the 3D model … the construction and then the furniture. The team at Gasper made it so much easier by taking the burden off of us.

No other company could do it all.

Everything is through Gasper. Everything was under our sales designer, Erik. We did not want any disconnect through that process. The other companies were either a landscaper or hardscaper and we would have had to contract out for the carpentry.

At the end of the day the quality of the work is for me what is most important. Obviously you want it to be fairly priced, which it was. The quality has been fantastic, and we have been very pleased.
