The days are getting shorter but we’re staying open!

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a monthlong celebration of Hispanic history and culture. Denton Public Library is hosting an art contest for students:

SuperWhoOrphanLock Fandom Fest

Calling all Supernaturalists, Whovians, the Clone Club, and Sherlockians, to a totally geektastic event filled with food, friends, and fluffy tissues for all your feels. Games will be played, trivia will be questioned, and prizes will be won. Tears of joy and/or heartbreak may also be shed. For all ages.

♦♦ Open to children and teenagers in grades 4-12 ♦♦ Artwork must be original and hand-made (not produced digitally)

♦♦ Artwork can be created on paper sized 8.5-by-11 inches up to 9-by-12 inches (do not use ruled notebook paper). ♦♦ Artists may use any media but work cannot be mounted or framed ♦♦ Artwork must represent positive images reflecting the theme, “Latino/Americans: Building America Past, Present, or Future” ♦♦ Entries will be accepted Sept. 1-15 at any library location Artwork will be displayed at North Branch Library. Winners will be notified in October and winning entries will be mounted and displayed at the Denton County Courthouse. International Games Day @ South Branch

Join participants all around the world to celebrate International Games Day. We will have board games, Wii video games, and even a life-sized version of the arcade classic, Pac-Man. For all ages. Sat 11/21 South Branch 2-5 p.m.

Join us as we celebrate International Games Day with a library full of gaming options! We will provide board and card games to keep everyone challenged and entertained. Special guest Alexey Root, Woman International Master of Chess and author of the upcoming book Be Prepared with Chess Strategy, will provide chess puzzles for all levels throughout the afternoon. Bilingual StoryTime Here Comes the Fire Truck!

Join the library as we read stories, then visit the Fire Department to learn about the gear and tools used to fight fires and stay safe, and see fire truck up close! (Unless it is out fighting a fire!) Best for ages 5-8. Thu 9/24 South Branch 3:30 p.m.

Fire Fighter StoryTime

Big Denton Playdate

Engage in fun games designed to delight young children and encourage early literacy. Come to play and leave ready to turn ordinary household objects into your child’s favorite toy. Denton Independent School District, Denton Public Library, and the University of North Texas will provide hands-on examples of different engaging activities at this free come-and-go program. Denton County Traveling Museum and Hispanic Heritage

Take a trip back in time with Gretel L’Heureux of the Denton County Office of History and Culture. Libraries will close to observe Labor Day, Thanksgiving All three Denton Public Library locations will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. The libraries will reopen Tuesday, Sept . 8 with regular business hours. The libraries will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and remain closed Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27, in observance of Thanksgiving. The libraries will reopen Saturday, Nov. 28 with regular business hours.
