March 14, 2015 from 9:26 a.m. to 5:35 p.m., all the numbers will align for a full day celebration of math geekiness. The North Branch Library will host the day with guest speakers from the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) exhibits, pi reciting and pi video contests, and math activities and demonstrations for all ages. We will end the day with our Pi(e) Walk giveaway. Free pie, of course! Join us for an irrational, transcendental, really fun day.

Recite Pi Contest

North Branch Library is hosting a pi recitation contest on Pi Day, Saturday, March 14. There will be two age categories; 12 and younger, and 13 and older. Trophies will be awarded to the winners with the most digits memorized in each age category. Did you know you only need to recite the first 20 digits after the decimal point to get on a pi world ranking list? Documentary Screening - Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way

Celebrate Women’s History Month with the Denton Public Library and the League of Women Voters at a special screening of the documentary Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way. The film chronicles Ferraro’s career and inspires women toward roles in leadership and political activism. Thu 3/26 Emily Fowler 7 p.m.

Renew your sense of wonder this spring at the library! Conversation Club

All speakers of English as a second language are invited to practice conversational English in a relaxed, informal setting. Nurturing Literacy: Tips for Parents

Presented by the University of North Texas and Denton Public Library

Literacy Night: Early Literacy This class shares with parents different ways that children learn to read, how to follow their progress, and who to talk to if they suspect difficulty. It will outline the literacy milestones and give warning signs of reading deficits. Children are welcome to attend and will be entertained with books, crafts, and board games. Best for parents with elementary aged children (K-3rd grade). Mon 4/20 South Branch 6:30 p.m. Literacy Talk: Shared Reading Parents will learn the importance of shared reading and discover some reading techniques to use while reading with their child during this interactive program. Teddy Bear Parade

Two parts brainy and one part zany, Professor Brainius is a whole lab full of laughs combining science, music, and entertainment for the whole family. Seating is limited and free tickets will be available at the library starting an hour before show time on a first-come, first-serve basis. All ages. Sensory StoryTime

Sensory StoryTime is geared for children ages 8 and younger who have a hard time in large groups, are on the autism spectrum, or are sensitive to sensory overload. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is a United Way of Denton County program that provides free tax preparation and e-filing services for low-to moderate income families and individuals.
