Throw Back Thursday Denton Films: When We Were All Broncos In this documentary, director David Barrow interviews townspeople, his fellow students at Denton High School and his teammates on the 1972 Bronco football team, to explore how Denton emerged from the dark days of segregation to become the diverse and dynamic town it is today. SRC Teen Volunteer Training Learn all you need to know to help with Summer Reading Club this summer. You must complete one of these trainings to volunteer for Summer Reading Club table. Documenting the Upshaw Family

Author and photographer Richard Orton will talk about his book, The Upshaws of County Line: An American Family, and the 25-year experience documenting the Upshaw family and the freedom colony of County Line, located in northwest Nacogdoches County. Toddler Drive-In

Join us for indoor fun as we turn boxes into cars and enjoy a short film at our “drivein.” This program is best for ages 2-5. Registration required. Wed 6/24 South Branch 10 a.m.

Animal Ambassadors

Come explore animals and their environment and see live animals. This program is presented by the Heard Museum and is best for ages 5 and older. Seating is limited and free tickets will be available starting an hour before the show on a firstcome, first-served basis. Wed 6/24 North Branch 2 p.m.

ABC Craft Time

Get ready to get crafty with the letters A, B, and C. Pictures, die-cut letters, recycled materials, and more will be available in this come-and-go program. What will you create? Ages 1-5. Thu 6/25 North Branch 2 p.m.

In some cases, free tickets are distributed one hour prior to a program, at the hosting library. This is common when attendance historically has filled a venue to capacity. We also ask that individuals with special needs and groups of six or more call before an event so that we can provide the best possible library experience.

Box-town

Prehistoric Turtles

Pulp and the Paper Maker

Big Denton Playdate

Engage in fun games designed to delight young children and encourage early literacy. Come to play and leave ready to turn ordinary household objects into your child’s favorite toy. Denton Independent School District, Denton Public Library, and the University of North Texas will provide hands-on examples of different, engaging activities at this free come-and-go program. David Chicken

The three-time Emmy Award-winning musician leads the audience through his hilarious, high-energy, interactive performance. Joined by the singing-andrapping Mama Chicken, David invites members of the audience on stage to sing, play musical instruments, and be a star! Super Red Arowana Fish Hunt

Frozen Sing-A-Long

Cool off and watch the sing-along edition of Disney’s Frozen. Don’t be afraid to “Let It Go” and be loud in the library! For Frozen fans of all ages. Free tickets will be available starting an hour before show time on a first-come, first-served basis. Frozen Sing-a-Long Edition is rated PG and is 102 minutes. Denton Public Library is partnering with students from the University of North Texas early childhood program to bring some of their favorite children’s books, lessons, and enrichment activities to the library. Children will learn about some really excellent children’s books and participate in some fun activities. For ages 5-8. Wed 8/12 Emily Fowler 4-5:30 p.m.

Back-to-School Montessori Art

Express yourself the Montessori way with certified Montessori instructor Cassidy Fuess. Children will explore art by discovering how materials work in a natural, child-directed manner. Registration required. Ages 3-6. Fri 8/19 North Branch 2 p.m.

Star Wars Celebration

Calling all Star Wars fans! Visit with characters from a galaxy far, far away. Meet members of the 501st Legion in authentic costumes (bring your cameras). Baby and Toddler StoryTime This program for children age 3 and younger is designed to promote literacy and caregiver bonding through books, songs, and finger plays. Howdy, pardners! Kick off the North Texas State Fair and Rodeo with this cowboythemed StoryTime with stories, songs, puppets, and crafts. For ages 1-6. Wed 8/26 Emily Fowler 11 a.m.

Libraries will observe Independence Day All three Denton Public Library locations will be closed Friday, Jully 3, and Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. The libraries will reopen with regular hours on Sunday, July 5.

Join us for interactive preschool classes that use stories, songs, and puppets to build early literacy skills and prepare children to learn to read. For children ages 1-5 and their caregivers. Open Art Lab

Explore different analog art media with an emphasis on creative reuse. We provide the materials and you provide creativity. This is an open-ended art program in which teens can create a new work of art each week or work on an ongoing project. After completion, teens may display their work in North Branch’s Teen Room. Creative Women’s Conference The Creative Women’s Conference is an event to celebrate and promote women in their creative endeavors. Please join us as we examine various women’s takes on the artistic creative process and its place in the larger world. Saturday 8/1 North Branch 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Dementia Conversations Representatives from the Alzheimer’s Association will provide guidance on how to have those tough conversations about some of the challenging and often uncomfortable topics related to Alzheimer’s and dementia.
