Fizz, Boom, READ! Summer Reading Club begins June 5
Hold creativity in your hands The Forge makerspace is now open at North Branch Library. Makerspaces are areas designated for collaboration and creativity. They consist of building tools ranging from conventional wrenches and screwdrivers to tools that allow scientific exploration. Denton Public Library’s makerspace, dubbed “The Forge,” is a collection of powerful computer hardware and state-of-the-art software, two 3D printers, and other peripherals for recording and editing sound and video. It also includes Arduino kits, digital drawing/tracing pads and a number of other features. A 3D printing orientation class - required before using the printers - is offered 7-8 p.m. Mondays. The annual Summer Reading Club, a national literacy initiative for all ages, begins in June. Register to read throughout the summer and earn prizes. An Introduction to Documentary Filmmaking
DPL and Thin Line are teaming up to present a workshop led by veteran filmmaker Mark Birnbaum. He will discuss the fundamentals of storytelling, working camera, sound and light, and the basics of editing. He also will screen examples from his own work. Participants will create a short documentary, but must have access to a camera or smart phone and attend all three sessions.
