MESSAGEMAYOR’S

The Parks and Recreation Department is working on a number of exciting projects this over the coming months including new playgrounds at Cross Timbers Park and the completion of a new Denton Tennis Center that will host twelve tennis and eight pickleball courts! Project details can be found on the City’s website at www.dentonparks.com.

As the summer comes to an end and we move into the fall, I want to express my thanks and gratitude for your continued support of our Parks and Recreation Department. Summer is a busy time for our parks and facilities and I was excited to see the community ready to rejoin us for all of our summer programming and events. I am especially proud that we were able to successfully reopen our aquatic facilities on a full-time basis for our residents to enjoy this summer, something many cities were not able to do. You, the community, through your continued support as members, participants, volunteers, and users, make it possible for us to continue to provide a high quality of life for our community.

A refund or credit equal to the registration fee will be given as long as the particpant withdraws by the deadline. For special circumstances, please contact the activity’s supervisor.

Please have your information and credit card ready. Child care related programs may require in-person registration.

Who Uses the Master Plan?

Denton Parks, Recreation, Trails System Master Plan

MASTER PLAN

40 | Unite, Grow, Play u Parks and Recreation u City Departments u Community Leaders and Decision Makers u Community Groups u Residents u Other Partners/Outside Groups

The parks and recreation department will be making progress on implementing the many components the master plan identifies. Our department is looking forward to continuing the quality of life of our citizens and increasing our efforts to unite, grow, and play!

This includes an implementation action plan to guide future expenditures for parks and recreation, this master plan complies with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA)

the Denton Parks, Recreation, Trails System Master Plan on March 1, 2022. This plan will guide the department over the next ten years. The creation of the Master Plan involved strategically examining the community’s existing services, facilities, and resources and assessing future needs concerning parks, recreation, open space, and greenways.

A compliant master plan provides opportunities for grants and additional funding resources for recreation improvements. You can find a copy of the Master Plan on the City of Denton website.

To receive bonus points on applications for TPWD funding, the agency requires that a municipality submit an updated park master plan every five years and a completely new plan every ten years.

TPWD

This recognition sets parks and recreation agencies apart for excellence in operation and service. The Parks Master Plan is one required element of the accreditation process.

The purpose of this plan is to guide the development of parks, recreation, and trails in Denton over the next ten years, focusing on improving the existing system and expanding the system to meet growing demand.
