sterreichs einzige Pop-Art-Künstlerin, die sich nie als solche kennzeichnen lassen wollte, fand schon früh eine Existenz zwischen Performance, Ästhetik und Pose. Geboren 1935 in Graz, verbrachte sie ihre Kindheit mit der Familie in Bleiburg in Kärnten. Schon in der Jugend euphorisch und ruhelos zieht es sie bald nach Wien, an die Akademie der bildenden Künste. Sie zählt zur Gruppe der Avantgarde um Otto Mauer, der ihr in seiner Galerie St. Stephan die erste Einzelausstellung ermöglichte. Ab 1961 in den USA erlebte sie hautnah die rasanten technologischen Fortschritte und auch die Entwicklung neuer Materialien. All dies offenbarte sich schließlich in ihrer „Space-Art“. Mit Schablonen werden Materialen wie Plastik und Vinyl kunstvoll bearbeitet. Bald konnte die oft schrill gekleidete Kärntnerin in der Kunstszene von Brooklyn und Manhattan Fuß fassen und fühlt sich im

New Yorker Inner Circle von Andy Warhol und Roy Lichtenstein wie zu Hause. Im Gegensatz zu Warhol ist sie aber für die Glorifizierung des Kommerzes und die Darstellung alltäglicher Objekte, man denke an die berühmte Campbell-Suppendose, nicht zu haben. 1966 heiratet sie in London den Onkologen George Schwarz, nach der Geburt ihres Sohnes kehrt sie nach New York zurück und pendelte immer wieder in die Heimat. „Sie hat sich immer als Kärntnerin empfunden“, sagt Anna Sauer, Archivarin der Kiki Kogelnik Foundation in New York und Kuratorin der Ausstellung „Kiki Kogelnik. This is your life“. Ihr Ouevre umfasst Malerei, Skulptur, Grafik und dreidimensionale Objekte wie die aus Murano-Glas gefertigten , heute weltberühmten, „Venetian Heads“. Im Jahr ihres 25. Todestages wird bis 30. Oktober 2022 im Werner Berg Museum ihre Biografie n unter dem Titel „This is Your Life“ erzählt.

"Being an artist is not a profession, but a way of existing, a passionate way of being a human being." Kogelnik established a distinct motto for her life when she made this statement. Satirical critique struck her as the most appropriate form of encounter with the world of consumerism and the exalted posturing of the feminine advertising world and fashion industry.

ustria’s only female Pop Art creator, though she never wanted to be labeled as such, discovered an identity between performance, aesthetics, and posing at an early age. Born in Graz in 1935, she spent her childhood with her family in Bleiburg in Carinthia. Already euphoric and restless in her youth, she was soon drawn to Vienna, to the Academy of Fine Arts. She was part of the avant-garde group associated with Otto Mauer, who allowed her to stage her first solo exhibition at his Galerie St. Stephan. From 1961 onwards in the US, Kogelnik witnessed at first hand the rapid technological advances as well as the development of new materials. Ultimately, all of this was reflected in her “space art.” Using stencils, she created artistic effects on materials like plastic and vinyl. Soon the often garishly dressed Carinthian was able to gain a foothold in the Brooklyn and Manhattan art scenes and felt right at home in the New York inner circle headed by Andy

Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Unlike Warhol, however, she was not given to glorifying commercialism and depicting everyday objects, like the famous Campbell’s soup can. In 1966, she married oncologist George Schwarz in London; after the birth of her son, she returned to New York and commuted back home time and again. “She always regarded herself as Carinthian,” says Anna Sauer, archivist of the Kiki Kogelnik Foundation in New York and curator of the exhibition Kiki Kogelnik. This is your life. Her ouevre encompasses painting, sculpture, graphics, and three-dimensional objects such as the now world-famous “Venetian Heads” made of Murano glass. In the year that marks the 25th anniversary of her death, her biography will be chronicled at the Werner Berg Museum through October 30, 2022, in a program n titled This is Your Life.

Sowohl der Firmensitz als Ort der Begegnung in Klagenfurt wie auch seine Alm auf der Simonhöhe ganz in der Nähe spiegeln seine Liebe zum Wörthersee wider. Als Landwirt mit eigenem Teich kocht er leidenschaftlich gerne, Kitesurfen und Wasserskifahren locken ihn an seinen geliebten See. Kein Wunder, dass er mit „Kärnten pur und meer“ auch ein teilweise autobiographisches Buch herausgebracht hat. Mittlerweile habe er bereits Menschen getroffen, die nach der Lektüre an den Wörthersee kamen und sich in seinen Fußstapfen bewegen n wollten.

Aber auch in anderen Branchen führten seine genialen Ideen zum Erfolg, er wurde „Vater“ der Reisesuchmaschine checkfelix und checkrobin, gründete ein Hubschrauber-Shuttle-Service in den USA und bietet mit seinem Unternehmen houseofweb digitale Lösungen für nahezu alle Branchen an. Wenn man ihn auf Vorbilder für sein Leben anspricht, sind stets Udo Jürgens und Niki Lauda ganz oben, aber auch sein Vater und vor allem das Geschenk einer liebenswerten Jugend hätten ihn ganz stark geprägt. Hannes Jagerhofer has always shown visionary tendencies, and even 26 years after the debut of the legendary beach volleyball tournament on Lake Wörth, he still makes people sit up and take notice with his grand plans.

n this case, a lack of success might have been the kick-off for a very big career. In 1980, the Klagenfurt native moved to Vienna to study medicine and computer science. However, success eluded his efforts and brought his “adventure” in the big city to a premature end, as his father, dissatisfied with his performance, ceased to provide him with financial support. Clever as he is, Hannes embarked on the pursuit of his dreams and eventually set up his own highly successful business, ACTS. But his ingenious ideas also brought success in other industries. He became the “father” of the travel search engines checkfelix and checkrobin, established a helicopter shuttle service in the US, and his company houseofweb supplies digital solutions for virtually every industry.

Both the company headquarters as a venue for gatherings in Klagenfurt and his Alpine farm on the nearby Simonhöhe reflect his love of Lake Wörth. A farmer with his own pond, he is passionate about cooking, while kitesurfing and water skiing draw him to his beloved lake.

Am Programm stehen Werke von Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Georges Bizet, Giacomo Puccini und Franz Lehár. Savinskaia ist nicht das erste Mal im

sonnigen österreichischen Seenland, sie begeisterte bereits vor drei Jahren beim Hans Gabor Belvedere Gesangswettbewerb in Villach das erstaunte Publikum. Die schneidende Klarheit und die für die Mittzwanzigerin überraschend reife Stimme sorgen seither rund um den Globus für Aufsehen. Die in Moskau geborene Sopranistin schloss 2017 am Tschaikowski-Konservatorium bei Anastasia Bakastova ihr Gesangsstudium mit Auszeichnung ab. Schon 2018 setzte sie in der Kunstprivatuniversität der Stadt Wien ihre Ausbildung in der Opernklasse fort und wurde als Novomatic-Stipendiatin ins Ensemble der Wiener Staatsoper berufen, wo sie unter anderem „Giannetta“ (L’elisir d’amore), „Ida“ (Die Fledermaus) und die Titelrolle in Albin Fries’ Kinderoper „Persinette“ mimte. Rollen bei der Deutschen Oper Berlin, wie "Pamina" und "Erste Dame" (Die Zauberflöte), "Annina" (La traviata) sowie "Yvette und Georgette" (La rondine), sowie das n Debüt als "Elektra" in Salzburg 2020 folgten.

It is his tenth symphony, which was completed using artificial intelligence based on existing drafts, and premiered in 2020. Another special highlight awaits visitors in the form of the Young Stars’ Opera Gala, accompanied by the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra (KSO) under the direction of Nicholas Milton. The piercing clarity and a voice that, for the twenty-something vocalist, exhibits a surprising degree of maturity, have since attracted attention around the globe. The Moscow-born soprano graduated with honors from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 2017, studying voice with Anastasia Bakastova. In 2018, she continued her education in opera at the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna and was appointed to the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera on a Novomatic scholarship, where she performed roles such as “Giannetta” (L’elisir d’amore), “Ida” (Die Fledermaus), and the title role in Albin Fries’ children’s opera Persinette. Es mangelt weder an Kultur, noch an Kulinarik: Der ursprüngliche Altstadtkern von Klagenfurt ist mit seinen Renaissance-Bauten komplett erhalten, wurde in den vergangenen Jahren aufwändig restauriert, unter anderem von Star-Architekt Boris Podrecca, und lädt zu Streifzügen ein. Im Sommer gilt die Stadt als „wahres Mosaik aus Musik, Kleinkunst und ganz vielen Geschäften und Lokalen“. Das Flair erinnert teilweise aber auch an holländische Grachten: So geht es über den Lendkanal ganz bequem per Boot zum See. Unter vielen schönen Brücken hindurch passiert man Gebäude wie die Johanniskirche (Neugotische Schablonenmalerei), das Komponierhäuschen von Gustav Mahler oder das Schloss Maria Loretto.

Reifnitz hört, denkt oft zuerst an GTI. Als ehemalige Location des Auto-Treffens bekannt, wurde mit dem Granit-GTI sogar ein Denkmal gesetzt. How did Lake Wörth get its name, and where is the most beautiful place on that lake? While many a geography expert might know the answer to the first question – the name Lake Wörth is derived from the Old High German “Werdersee” or “Island Lake” and is a reference to the three islands (Flower Island, Capuchin Island, and Maria Loretto). As for the most beautiful spot there, who can answer that question objectively?

The lake’s aura of color is created by fine particles of limestone that are carried in by the Alpine tributaries, making it glow – especially on warmer days. One of the most well known places is Velden. ana blew the music scene away with her new single “1000 Gründe.” After all, the song is an expression of her own life in its profound dialect sound. “I draw inspiration for my songs from my own life. From my family and friends. These are our stories,” says Dana. “Everyone knows the feeling of being abandoned, and yes, it’s really hard to learn to deal with that,” she continues. When she’s not on stage, the nature-loving Carinthian navigates the motorboats at her parents’ business across Lake Wörth. In the process, she’s had the chance to chauffeur such well known guests as James Bay and David Hasselhoff. Local color is present in all of her work, with typical elements from the German pop genre incorporated into her dialect music. But if you’re looking for folk instruments, you’ll search in vain; her focus is on contemporary sound and cool beats. Dana’s fragile voice coupled with the authentic Carinthian dialect is what makes n her work so extraordinary.

SCHLOSS GOBELSBURG Mit dem Jahrgang 2020 feiert eines der ältesten und traditionsreichsten Weingüter Österreichs seinen 850. Jahrgang. Die Geschichte des Weinguts ist eng verknüpft mit der Geschichte der Zisterzienser, die sich im 12. Jh aus dem Burgund kommend in ganz Europe verbreiteten. Im Jahre 1171 erhalten die Zwettler Mönche einen Wirtschaftshof am Fuße des berühmten Ried HEILIGENSTEINS bei Langenlois. Dieses Jahr markiert den Grundstein einer Jahrhunderte alten Tradition.

as barockisierte Renaissanceschloss bettet sich malerisch in die sanften Terrassenweingärten des Donautals. Wenn man von Wien kommend bei Fels am Wagram auf die ersten Weingärten stößt, bemerkt der aufmerksame Besucher die von Löss geprägten Hügellandschaften auf denen vorwiegend die österreichische Identitätsrebsorte Grüner Veltliner angebaut wird. Nähert man sich dem Weingut erheben sich rechter Hand die markanten Terrassenweingärten der Riede HEILIGENSTEIN, deren Ausdruck durch Rieslinganbau geprägt ist. Historiker wissen um die Bedeutung dieses Weingartens, der nicht nur geologisch eine europäische

Besonderheit repräsentiert, sondern auch historisch eine Sonderstellung in der österreichischen Weinlandschaft einnimmt. Erreicht man Gobelsburg, fällt einem sofort die prägnante Ensemblekonstellation ins Auge, die schon auf die Vorkeltische Besiedlung vor 4000 Jahren zurückgeht. Tritt man in den Innenhof ein, umgibt einen sofort das Gefühl von Geborgenheit. Eine Sonnenuhr zeigt uns, dass auch in modernen Zeiten das Zisterziensische Leitmotive von ‚Einfachheit und Strenge‘ durchaus noch Bedeutung hat. Knarrend öffnet sich das Tor zum Weinkeller und automatisch atmet man beim Betreten den so charakteristischen und doch unbeschreiblichen Keller-

duft ein. Durch die Jahrhunderte alten Weingänge mit Fässern und Flaschen wandelt man, bis man plötzlich im Zentrum der Kelleranlagen ankommt – einem Kreuzgang, dessen Zentrum als Licht, Luft und Wasserbrunnen dient. Michael Moosbrugger, der 1996 die Verantwortung für das Traditionshaus übernommen hat, erzählt, dass die klösterliche Tradition auch heute noch einen Einfluss auf die Betriebsführung ausübt. Nicht nur, dass man gemeinsam nach der Ernte das Einbringen der Ernte mit einer Segnung und dem traditionellen Martinigansel feiert, sondern dass der Geist der Zisterzienser in vielen Entscheidungen ein wichtiges Leitmotiv bietet. Bei der Weinverkostung in

den historischen Räumen lernt man zu allererst die klassischen Weine des Donauraums kennen – Gebiets, Orts und Riedenweine bilden das Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit des Weingutes. Es gibt aber auch eine Reihe an Spezialitäten, denen man sich widmet. Die feinen Rotweine der Pinot Familie oder die Süßweine zum Beispiel, aber auch die Qualitätssekte gehören mittlerweile zum Besten, was Österreich zu bieten hat. Und dann wird dem Thema ‚Reife im Wein‘ noch besonderes Augenmerk in den TRADITION Weinen geschenkt. The cultural Heritage of Austrian Wine One of Austria’s oldest and richest-in-tradition wine estates will celebrate its 850th vintage with the 2020 harvest. The history of Schloss Gobelsburg is closely interwoven with that of the Cistercian Order, which spread from Burgundy throughout all of Europe and arrived at the Danube in the twelfth century. In the year 1171, the monks of Zwettl Abbey obtained a farmyard at the foot of the famous vineyard Ried HEILIGENSTEIN near Langenlois. That year saw the cornerstone laid for a tradition that would then grow and flourish over hundreds of years.

he Renaissance chateau with its baroque accretions nestles picturesquely into the gentle terraced vineyards of the Danube River Valley. When travelling from Vienna and coming upon the first vineyards at Fels am Wagram, the attentive visitor will notice hilly landscapes moulded from a soil called loess, in which the flagship grape variety of Austria – Grüner Veltliner – is cultivated predominantly. Approaching the estate, the impressive terraced vineyards of Ried HEILIGENSTEIN arise on the right, its expression best characterised by the Riesling that grows there. Historians are keenly aware of the significance of this vineyard site, which is not only unique in Europe for its geologic makeup, but also occupies a historically pre-eminent position in Austria’s viticultural landscape. Arriving at Gobelsburg, visitors are immediately aware of the eye-catching ensemble constellation, which reaches back through history to pre-Celtic habitation some 4,000 years ago. Entering the inner courtyard, one is immediately embraced by a sense of security. A sundial shows that even in modern times, the Cistercian leitmotif of ‘simplicity & strictness’ most definitely retains its relevance. The door to the wine cellar creaks open, and automatically upon entering one breathes the characteristic & familiar cellar aroma that remains so difficult to describe. The visitor

proceeds onward through corridors hundreds of years old, past wine in barrels & bottles, until arriving at the core of the cellar facilities – a cloister whose centre serves as a fountain of light, air and water. Michael Moosbrugger, who took over management of this traditional house in 1996, tells us that the monastic ways still exert their influence on operational matters today. Not only that folks celebrate the yield of the harvest together after picking, and feast on the traditional Sankt Martin’s Day goose, but also that the spirit of the Cistercians remains an important influence on many decisions. And at the wine tasting in these historic chambers, one begins by becoming acquainted with the classic wines of the Danube Valley – Gebietswein (regional wine), Ortswein (village wine) and Riedenwein (harvested from individual vineyards) serve as points of focus for the estate. There is also a series of specialties that demands attention as well. The fine red wines of the Pinot family, or the sweet wines – but their classy sparkling wines (Sekt) are now also numbered among the best that Austria has to offer. And then the subject ‘Maturity in Wine’ receives special attention in the line of wines known as TRADITION. n the second season under the direction of Aron Stiehl, eleven productions are scheduled for the main stage, six for musical theater, four for drama, and one large children’s theater production. These include a world premiere and an Austrian premiere. The program is supplemented by additional projects for young theatergoers of all ages and a varied “Statt Theater” program featuring concerts, readings, stand-up comedy, and a series of panel discussions. The Carinthian Symphony Orchestra will present eight concerts in the Konzerthaus. Artistic director Aron Stiehl aims to continue to expand the theater’s activities and make it a place of interaction, encounter, and critical discourse for everyone. rst 2018 kam der gebürtige Kärntner von seiner Erfolgstour rund um den Globus in seine Heimat retour und kocht seither im Salons Restaurant & Atelier und Seespitz im Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden. Seit Jänner 2019 ist er für die gesamte Kulinarik des Hauses verantwortlich. Gruber erlernte das Handwerk unter anderem in Fünf-SterneHäusern und Hauben-Restaurants in den USA, Frankreich und Italien. Ganz spezielles Wissen und Kochkünste vermittelte

ihm aber ein japanischer Sushi-Meister, der ganz nach alten Traditionen lehrte. So werden seine Gerichte auch mit einer Prise Asien gewürzt. "Anders als in den 90ern, als Hummerchips und Zitronengras als innovativ galten, ist der neue Stil technisch und fokussiert aufs Wesentliche", so Gruber. Im Zentrum seiner Kreationen stehen Frische, Saisonalität und Regionalität – dies aber nicht als Marketingversprechen, sonn dern als tägliches Credo gelebt.

t was only in 2018 that the native Carinthian returned to his native region after a successful tour around the globe, and he has since been preparing dishes at the Salons Restaurant & Atelier and Seespitz restaurants in the Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden. Since January 2019, he has assumed responsibility for the hotel’s entire culinary offering. Gruber learned his craft in fivestar and toque-awarded restaurants in the US, France, and Italy, to name just a few locations. But it was a Japanese sushi master

who conferred to Gruber a particularly unique set of culinary skills and expertise, taught in accordance with ancient traditions. As a result, his dishes are also seasoned with a dash of Asia. “Unlike the ’90s, when lobster chips and lemongrass were considered innovative, the new style is technical and focuses on the essentials,” notes Gruber. At the heart of his creations are freshness, seasonality, and regionality – more than mere marketing claims, n they’re put into practice every day.

n eigener Stil prägt das Erscheinungsbild der Naturlandschaft. Bei einem Spaziergang am Ufer lässt sich die vom Jugendstil beeinflusste „Wörthersee-Architektur“ besonders gut bewundern. Franz Baumgartner ist der Vater dieser Stilrichtung und bis heute der bedeutendste Vertreter der Wörthersee-Architektur. Von ihm stammen beispielsweise das Schaukraftwerk Forstsee, die Villa Kretschmann, die Villa Stefanie Turkovic, die Pfarrkirche Unsere Liebe Frau sowie die Villa Edelweiß in Pörtschach. Mit dem Mösslacherhaus am Karawankenplatz wollte er ein beachtenswertes, städtebauliches Ensemble schaffen. Gemeinsam mit dem danebenliegenden Hotel Kointsch und dem Hotel Carinthia gibt es dem zentralen Platz in Velden sein markantes Erscheinungsbild. Der gebürtige Wiener hat die Architektur am Wörthersee bis in die 1930er Jahre stark geprägt. Wohl auch deshalb,

n the Wörthersee region, the appearance of the regional landscape is characterized by a very distinctive architectural style. One walk along the shore of the Wörthersee will give you more than a glimpse of “Wörthersee architecture”, which was heavily influenced by the Art Nouveau style. Franz Baumgartner is the father of this style and to this day the most important representative of Wörthersee architecture. He designed the Forstsee power facility, the Villa Kretschmann, the Villa Stefanie Turkovic, the Parish Church of Our Lady, and Villa Edelweiß in Pörtschach. In his design of the Mösslacherhaus at Karawankenplatz, he aimed to create a remarkable, urban architectural ensemble. Together with the adjacent Hotel Kointsch and the Hotel Carinthia, these buildings give the central square in Velden its unique flair.

Aus einer Liaison im Alter von 17 Jahren mit der Hausdame seiner Familie stammt aber sein unehelicher Sohn Franz Eber, den er später durch eine Vaterschaftserklärung anerkannt hat. Baumgartner starb 1946 in Velden am Wörther See und ist in einem Ehrengrab der Gemeinde beigesetzt. Doch in seinen Bauten sind sein Engagement und seine Visionen noch immer spürbar. n

Born in Vienna, Baumgartner went on to influence the architecture in the Wörthersee region well into the 1930s, and his work shows a keen understanding of how to combine local tradition with international trends. He strove to design original types of house construction and developed an independent and rich architectural terminology. The bathing establishments built by Baumgartner, such as the Schlosshotel in Velden and the Bulfonbad, are also particularly noteworthy. Officially, Baumgartner did not have any offspring. The marriage with his wife Helene Hörwarter remained childless. His illegitimate son Franz Eber, whom he later recognized through a paternity declaration, was the result of a liaison at the age of 17 with the house servant of his family. Baumgartner died in Velden am Wörther See in 1946 and is buried in a municipal grave of honor. His commitment and his vision are still evident to this day in his n buildings.

KIKI KOGELNIK: This Is Your Life – An Archival Account The work of Kiki Kogelnik, one of the most significant and renowned Austrian-born artists, continues to enjoy growing international acclaim and recognition. In the year that marks the 25th anniversary of her death, the Werner Berg Museum chronicles the artist’s biography for the first time in the form of an exhibition that draws on newly discovered archival materials such as photographs, letters, posters, films, personal objects, as well as portraits and self-portraits.

WERNER BERG – Chronologie/Kronologija Documenting each year in strict succession, the collection of one hundred oil paintings by Werner Berg offers the first ever comprehensive overview of every phase of the artist’s work. Audio descriptions of the events of each year of Werner Berg’s work accompany the pictures – most of which consist of timetabled personal accounts. Werner Berg was born in Wuppertal/ Elberfeld in 1904. In 1931 he moved to the Rutarhof in the Slovenian-speaking region of southeastern Carinthia, where he lived as a farmer and painter until his death in 1981. Large-scale facade installations serve to extend the Kiki Kogelnik exhibition into the city center. This kind of spillover from the museum’s presentation into the public space, one that dominates an entire urban ensemble, now represents a unique cultural selling point for Bleiburg/Pliberk. Inspired by the work of Kiki Kogelnik, the museum’s sculpture garden was designed with “Standings” by students of the Bleiburg Elementary School n and Bleiburg Middle School..

Born in 1935, Kiki Kogelnik spent the majority of her childhood and youth in the small southern Carinthian town of Bleiburg. After completing her studies of art in Vienna in the 1950s and spending extended periods in France, Scandinavia, and Switzerland, the artist moved to New York in 1962, where the Pop Art movement had just emerged, and made the city her new home. That said, she continued to regard Bleiburg as a special fixed point of reference, returning to her hometown time and again until her death in 1997.

Im Jahr ihres 25. Werner Berg wurde 1904 in Wuppertal/Elberfeld geboren. 1931 zog er auf den Rutarhof im slowenischsprachigen Südosten Kärntens, wo er als Bauer und Maler bis zu seinem Tod 1981 lebte. Großflächige Fassadengestaltungen erweitern die Kiki Kogelnik Ausstellung in die Innenstadt. Ein solches, ein ganzes städtisches Ensemble bestimmendes Übergreifen der Präsentation im Museum in den öffentlichen Raum stellt mittlerweile ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal der Kulturstadt Bleiburg/Pliberk dar. Der Skulpturengarten des Museums wurde, angeregt vom Werk Kiki Kogelniks, mit „Standings“ von Schülern und Schülerinnen der n Volksschule Bleiburg und Mittelschule Bleiburg gestaltet.
