Just a few more weeks left until we all return back to school. Yay! Don’t forget to plan events with your board members and how to recruit new members especially during Club Rush! I wish you all luck for the upcoming school year. It’s been a great few months into my term and I cannot wait to see what else is in store for all of us. Historians, I know schoolwork may get in the way of things, but you always have your board and members to back you up. Remember to take service photos and submit your article by the 10th of every month! Thank you guys. Without all you Green Monkeys, there would be no newsletter.

My Key Club Story
3
Key Club? I actually first found out about it in the 8th grade when upperclassmen I knew started joining it. My freshman year I decided to check it out and join. I wasn't an official member until my sophomore year however, which is when I also ran for club secretary. That decision was life-changing. I learned many things during my term: communicating with others, the importance of teamwork, and of course, leadership qualities. My Key Club moment was actually during Project Shepherd in December of 2014. That was when I realized and felt the true meaning of service, and Key Club. I wanted to become even more of a better leader to inspire others, so I ran for club Vice President. When that didn’t work out, I applied to become the Division Executive Assistant. I'm very blessed and happy to be here today and I really wish I had gotten involved sooner. Serving as a club Secretary and currently a Division Executive Assistant has really broadened my horizons, in terms of learning and caring for others and improving myself to become a better person. This is my Key Club story. Ansley Tran, Lakewood High D13N Executive Assistant
Acknowledging that such an innovative and communicative organization has manifested young, ambitious students into potential leaders with an endlessly evolved responsibility and passion to provide assistance and orientation to their communities, Key Club Intl. has constructed environments and ajared opportunities for individuals of all generations to indulge in various interactions establishing appropriate preparations for potential challenges or obstacles. Unlike the majority of the members of the Huntington Park Key Club who are informed about the organization’s operation and the volunteering events either through community affairs or social interactions as an underclassmen, I was introduced to Key Club and its corresponding philosophy before prior to high school through the influence projected by my older sister who facilitated the activities of the club as president during her senior year, formerly secretary. After participating in a food/toy distribution at the community’s Salvation Army and assisting in the decoration of the City of Downey’s Rose Float for a required academic assignment, I was intrigued by the communication between volunteering students and the adults appreciating all of the students’ hard work and the satisfaction of utilizing ones hands for the community’s benefit accompanied after a long day. Encouraged to pursue positions in the board for my junior and senior year, my freshman year of high school was orientated immediately with the influence of Key Club, anticipating the opportunity to obtain applicable experiences that will not only provoke my identification but also commence innovations that will stimulate younger generations to obtain access to reliable sources and become our future. Influenced by the direction my sister utilized to maintain appropriate stability and the community’s initiative to prepare younger generations for the real world as a priority, being secretary ajared the opportunity to practice this philosophy: the members express an intriguing mentality that define the identity of the club that enrich the Kiwanis Family. MEET HUNTINGTON PARK’S PRESIDENT
My goals for the school year are to have as many events possible while still making them very fun and to get our club to expand in member participation. I have already started with my goal to make as many events available by teaming up with the tree people organization and the LA Food Bank by setting up volunteer days that range from now to the end of the school year. We also volunteer at a local church every Friday helping distribute food to the needy. Big events such as the Aids walk, Heart walk, Relay for Life, etc. are carefully planned out months ahead. In order to raise member participation, we plan to make social events, reward members with food at meetings, and advertise our club as much as possible. In order to raise up funds, our Key Club hosts bake sales where we bake brownies at someone's house and then sell them at city fairs or events. The manager of Shakey’s in our city is also a Kiwanis member, so he helps us with fundraising there too. Other fundraisers we plan to do are Wing Stop and Panda Express. Nothing of this could be done without the collaboration of the board or of the members, so I'm looking forward to working with both in order to make this year great! You can contact me through my email: marcoperez1815@gmail.com .

What had happened at the social was‌. On July 21st, Division 13 North and South got together for a social held at the Bellflower Kiwanis Hall. Key Clubbers had the opportunity to break the ice by playing different games such as uno, speed, mafia, and musical chairs. Congrats to our very own monkey, Bethany Nguyen, for winning! Attendees also got to relax and eat some popcorn and drink some kool-aid while socializing and having fun.

Lieutenant Governor for the Metro Division of Circle K Hello Key Club! My name is Josef Madrigal, and I am the Lieutenant Governor for the Metro Division of Circle K. Just a little bit about myself...I joined the Kiwanis Family during my sophomore year of high school through Key Club. I was a member of Division 38W, and I have held the Key Club positions of Club Secretary and CNH SAA Task Coordinator. I entered UCLA in Fall 2013 as a Neuroscience Major and joined Circle K right away. Currently, I am finishing up my second year of college. I held the position of UCLA's Kiwanis Family Youth Chair this previous year and was elected as Metro Lieutenant Governor last month. As Metro LTG, one of my biggest goals is to strengthen Kiwanis Family Relations at all levels of the organization. Because of this, I definitely want to build a strong relationship with each one of you, and through that, I hope that our Divisions will be better able to interact.
WHY ATTEND?

This past month Cerritos Key Club focused all their service on bingo with senior citizens. They volunteer at the Artesia Christian Home every Saturday from 10am-11am. Cerritos Key Clubbers enjoy attending this event. Bonding with the seniors is an amazing experience, especially when Key Clubbers attend often and therefore are recognized by the seniors. It gives Key Clubbers a chance to look at situations with a different perspective and listen to stories while playing a good game of Bingo and having fun.
Nikita Advani, Cerritos During July 11, 2015, Lakewood Key Club volunteered for TLC which stands for “Teens in Lakewood Care”. TLC is a program that has been running for over 20 years and teens would first gather at a youth center. Teens help out by providing free home maintenance for Lakewood residents that are physically unable to do their work or clean their home. By accomplishing this, Lakewood residents are capable of living in a better environment. Lakewood Key Clubbers went to a house where two elderly ladies resided. Volunteers started out by unloading a bunch of tools like wheelbarrows, brooms, rakes, shovels, and gloves. They began cleaning through the process of removing tons of trash, rotten wood, bricks, chicken wires, food wrappings, and bags. They cleaned up enough to fill up two dumpsters! After a tiring day, they handed over the job to the city’s cleaning services.
Jennie Vong, Lakewood On August 8th, Warren Key Club provided the people in need throughout the entire neighborhood of Downey with food. Volunteers carried around carts helping people by placing items on it. They also helped set up the event! The event took place at the Downey First Christian Church, where people can come and get food weekly for free! Many people are struggling with finances and cannot afford food, therefore, our goal is to feed them and support them though their hardships. Giving food to the people in need provides them with a healthy meal so that they can feed themselves and their families as well!

John Glenn Key Club had the opportunity to volunteer at the Wet N Wild 5k Race in La Mirada on August 8th, 2015. Key Clubbers helped out by guiding the runners through a course. This race included different age groups which made the event more fun. As always, our members cheered on and motivated the participants with their Green Monkey spirits. The runners felt the energy and did not give up. They went through multiple obstacles and stayed strong. The runners were able to get wet through the course of splash. This allowed them to cool down and refresh themselves from running. Everyone was having a great time at the event. Our advisor, Ms. Juarez, received first place in one of the categories which made us very proud. On August 20, Norwalk is hosting a Social and Sports Fest so we can get to know our members more. We are going to have burgers, hot dogs, and a lot of fun!
As a club we have many future events in mind. We are always looking for ways to help our community. One of the future events that we have in mind is freshman orientation at John Glenn High School. Through this event we will be able to familiarize the incoming freshman with the school surroundings, resources, and a supportive community. We’re excited for the incoming freshman to join our club.

Huntington Park Key Club has been working with the Tree People twice a week this whole summer. As a board, we have tried our best to try to make every event. We came to Raul Perez Memorial Park along with the Tree People and helped water, clean, and maintain the trees. We have made a deal with the Tree People where we will have an event with them every Wednesday when school starts which we are all excited about. Our goal of having three events every week will be achieved. In addition, we helped set up a city event, National Night Out, where we recognize what our police department does for us. We unfortunately did not get any pictures of the setting up because they needed all the help they can get. We did get to set the water stand, canopies for the mayor, and different posts within the event. At the end, they gave us our own post, which we started to promote D13N, and started recruiting. To end the night, we watched Big Hero 6 with the few people that attended this wonderful event. We are still continuing to try and build a great bond with our Kiwanis. We try our best to attend each of their meetings. Every Tuesday, 12:30 pm. We your Huntington Park board invite you, you will be our plus in other words despite what they told you. YOU HAVE TO COME. You can meet the rest of them and see how everything is.
Jazmin Perez, Huntington Park

The Artesia green monkeys continue to bring a healthy environment to our beaches! Each month keyclubbers go out to clean Seal Beach and create a better place for people to enjoy themselves! Many of the keyclubbers enjoy cleaning Seal Beach because they get to spend time with their friends and create memories! We encourage the Artesia Key Club to go make our beaches a cleaner and safer place for the animals and people that like to go enjoy the beach! We do not just simply encourage our club to clean Seal Beach, the green monkeys bring along friends and family to have a huge crowd cleaning the beach! Cleaning the beach each month is a tradition we all enjoy as Artesia Green Monkeys!
Alyssa Jarnetta, Artesia
