My Key Club Story When I was a freshman, I decided to take on the journey to join Key Club with my friends who dragged me along. Key Club was not interesting at first since I did not understand the purpose of the club which made me stop attending events. However I came back to take a closer look my sophomore year and became more engaged with Key Club. The day we volunteered at the Long Beach Marathon, I experienced my Key Club moment. It was incredible to do service and have fun at the same time giving away goodie bags to runners who finished the marathon! When we switched shifts to Course Marshal, I could not believe how spirited Key Clubbers were . It is extraordinary to serve the community to the point where it makes you emotional that you are doing something thoughtful. It made me experience a positive outlook towards the community and how Key Club was the right choice for me. Key Club inspired me to become a better person. With that, I ran for Historian to prove myself that I can take responsibility to achieve higher abilities. As a junior now, I will never forget the unforgettable memories that service has given to me. I hope to motivate others to start accomplishing great leadership to set an example for others! Jennie Vong, Lakewood High Lakewood Key Club Historian

When I was 14, I had a friend who was a junior that kept pestering me to join key club. Of course like most people, I thought it was just some club that made keys... literally. I joined the club not knowing what it's real purpose was, and so my key club journey began my freshman year. At FIRST, I was simply looking to join any club in order to fill out my college apps and resumes. But I soon realized what a great impact key club had on the world, I later wanted to continue being in key club in order to change the world one step at a time. When I'm asked what my defining moment in key club was, my answer is super simple... I don't have one, but I have dozens. Every single time that I attend events like DCON, Key Leader, Regional Training Conferences, and service events, I fall in love with Key Club all over again. It's because I always experience a great emotional connection with what we do every time I attend these events. Key Club has influenced my life in ways that I never thought possible. The club opened my eyes to the reality of the world around me, the troubles that face our community, and what we can do to help. I hope key club becomes and inspiration for you so that you can inspire others. I love key club so much, and I'm so glad I joined. Stay crispy! Bethany Nguyen, Warren

Message from your Lieutenant Governor... REGION 8, WHAT’S GOOD?

Hey, what's up, hello!!! Wow I can't believe it's two quarters into this year’s term already. I want to thank you all for attending Region Training Conference from the bottom of my heart. It was extremely difficult for me doing a lot by myself to get things done for you all. Though thank you to all the Presidents, Board Officers, Division Leadership Team and Green Monkeys who made it happen. I can't believe that was my final RTC forever… It was where for the first time I met the region and bonded with so many of you whom I have built such strong friendships with. It's insane how this year I was on stage and hosting workshops; running around to ensure your experience was the best it could be. We hope you all had an amazing time celebrating service and meeting your fellow Key Clubbers. RTC was definitely lit! I mean c'mon the fire alarm went off. I'm looking forward to Fall Rally and all the amazing things ahead of us. Don't forget to attend DCM and Fall Rally prep!!!

Julie Trinh Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor 2015-2016

...and Division Leadership Team Hey y’all! I hope everyone had a great time at RTC. It wouldn't have been as fun and great as it was without all the Key Clubbers who came out. I'm so thankful to be a green monkey in the best division out there. Let's make sure to bring all of our spirit to Fall Rally South so that we can win that spirit stick! We have lots of cool chants to teach y’all at the upcoming DCM so look out for those dates. Also we'll be having a Fall Rally prep DCM so that we can make tutus and all that other fun stuff together. Can't wait to see y’all there! Christie Lee Spirit Coordinator Are you a CNH Bee? Because yo body is stinging. Stay crispy! Bethany Nguyen Service Projects/Event Coordinator

From the tutus to the ears to the working on cheers, do not forget that fall rally is all about PTP! Please, don't be afraid to talk to me about anything or ask me any questions! I can't wait to see all you monkeys in repping your amazing spirit wear and cheering with all you have at Fall Rally! Jessica Doan Service Expo Coordinator WHAT'S UP MONKEYS?! I hope you are all doing well! The fall semester can get pretty stressful, but keep working hard and persevere! Thanks for making October a great month. RTC was lit thanks to you guys! John Glenn’s President: Gisselle Bulan

As Key Club president for John Glenn, being part of this club has really opened my eyes. Before I was appointed this position, I was a huge introvert. But as time went by and elections for the 2015-2016 came, I wanted to try something new, which was running for a board position. I wanted a position that would get me out of my comfort zone, and something that I wouldn't imagine doing. I chose Key Club out of all the other clubs to run for this position because my heart belongs to doing community service.

MONTHLY RECOGNITION Club of the Month: Lakewood High School Being my home club, I get the chance to create a closet bond with Lakewood’s Key Club. I believe they should be recognized for their efforts at all their events as well as for the division and region. They have fundraised for PTP, held spirit sessions and freshman training, and participated in multiple service events. I am so proud of their successes and achievements! I hope they will continue to grow and I cannot wait to see what else they have in store for the rest of the year.

Member of the Month: David Kith, Lakewood David is an outstanding member of Lakewood. He has volunteered and participated in many Lakewood Key Club events. He also created a vlog for RTC and continues to take photos of his Key Club journeys and then posts them for the club to see. I hope he continues to do what he does! Congratulations to David, Louanne, and Lakewood High Key Club!

Officer of the Month: Louanne Santos, Norwalk I chose Louanne Santos for this month’s Officer of the Month because I wanted to recognize her work ethnic and determination to complete the tasks she is given. She is able to juggle being a student and as a President of Key Club while helping me with division events.

This past month Norwalk Key Club had its members help prepare food such as sandwiches to feed the homeless on Skid Row. Volunteers gathered together to assemble delicious food! We had a good turnout. Furthermore we are planning on doing fundraisers, like offering boba on campus or even creating Halloween goodies. We are also on track of sign ups and dues for the upcoming RTC and Fall Rally South.

Kelly Rueda, Norwalk On October 3rd, Warren Key Clubbers spent their Saturday night volunteering at the Beacon Light Mission Church. The Beacon Light Mission Church is also a shelter, providing the people with the necessities for everyday life. Volunteers helped set up tables, chairs, and so much more! They also prepared food to feed the homeless making sure that they had a warm meal for the night. Despite working countless hours that night, Warren Key Clubbers had bright smiles on their faces and were very enthusiastic to serve their community.

Bethany Nguyen, Warren This month Cerritos High held the first meeting of the year! Excited freshmen filled the auditorium along with returning members to finally start a year’s worth of Green Monkey fun! The Key Clubbers learned about our chants and heard about all the upcoming events we had in October! It was amazing to see all the spirit as the theater at Cerritos High filled up within minutes of lunch getting out! Nikita Advani, Cerritos

For the month of September, Lakewood Key Club spent their time volunteering at the Downtown Long Beach Global Energy Bimbo Race. This event took place on September 27 and Key Clubbers had to wake up early for their 6 AM shifts. They began by unwrapping all the nice medals and laid them on the table neatly in stacks. Later on, volunteers were assigned different shifts at gear check, water station and cheering on the runners at the finish line. As runners were coming through the finish line, Lakewood Key Clubbers put on their bright smile and passed out the medals to the runners. Everyone was in spirit mode and cheered to their hearts’ content. For the last runner of Global Energy Race, Lakewood Key Clubbers made a fabulous tunnel for the final runner to go through. It was a touching moment! In addition, Lakewood volunteered at the Long Beach Marathon on October 11. Volunteers came out in the early morning to help set up, pass out goodie bags, distribute medals, and cheer on runners. It was such a heartwarming experience to see how thankful runners were when they got to us at the finish line. We cannot wait to volunteer again next year!

Throughout September and October we’ve reached our goal of three or more events each week and now we are getting prepared for Fall Rally South. We are really grateful to the Huntington Park Key Clubbers who were up since 4 AM to go to Redondo Beach and hand water to our Students Run LA! It was a bit of a rush and we had to clean the trash afterwards but it was a fun experience in which we will participate every once a month. Our weekly Food Distributions have a great turn out. We have plenty of volunteers who love this specific event because the people who we hand the food to sometimes go through the worse and we have the opportunity to turn their day upside down. Gardening Day was my favorite because we went outside our community to help out a school with their garden. It’s a school for students with disabilities and every Friday they sell their grown vegetables. They get to learn what it takes to make money and how to manage it. It was a great experience to know we helped them out with that. Every other Tuesdays, we team up with Tree People. We go out to one of our local parks and we mulch and water the trees. It’s amazing how many trees need to be maintained so it’s always fun to help with that. We had a chance to walk for 6.2 miles at the Los Angeles Aids Walk! All the Key Clubbers felt both tired and accomplished because they knew they did it for a good cause.
