nc packs4 patriots Support Our Local Heroes

We are a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices. Packing care packages for deployed troops is a way to show your support and appreciation for the service and sacrifices by our military members. We also provide support for troops at home, their families and veterans. We have had a very busy year, while working through the challenges of Covid. Some of the challenges include losing the support of organizations who traditionally support us with fundraisers. We had to stop volunteer groups due to our small space which put more work on our team of volunteers who worked singularly or in small teams. We met these challenges while supporting troops through deployments, quarantines, homeland activations. We continued with support from caring volunteers and donors who want our troops to know that America cares about and appreciates their service. We will be posting our yearly statistics soon. Please continue to support our troops by: ~ order needed items from our Amazon list ~ support us with financial donations for postage ~ send cards and letters of support Ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need. Please don’t forget our military members who are serving away from home and family this year. Thank you!

2021 is quickly proving that nothing can stop the Movement. With more Crusaders comes the initiative to keep creating and cultivating new programs to offer. WWMG has successfully implemented multiple programs to assist growing the strength, skills and Worth of each and every Crusader. The Empire Enrollment Program (EEP) is designed to encourage Crusaders to build relationships within the motorcycle community, to cultivate the Empowerment. Once a Crusader has referred five (5) completed Crusader Members, she will receive one year of membership for free. This can be used for herself or to pay it forward to another woman. She will also receive the “EEP Award” and badge of honor. The Mentorship Program is offered to build skills and confidence on the open road. Whether you are a beginner or advanced rider with skills to sharpen, this is the program for you. Keeping safety and legalities in mind, we pair an enrollee up with a Crusader for guidance. This is a free and volunteer service, hence Both parties participate at their own risk. (Release and Indemnification Form required for participation). The Road Renegade program exemplifies the absolute strength, determination and Empowering Inspiration of these ladies. Each month we honor a “Renegade of the Month” on our WWMG Sisters Support Page. At the end of the year we vote on one of these spectacular ladies to become our “Road Renegade”. These are some of the most amazingly moving stories of strength and perseverance against a variety of odds that life has to throw. This Road Renegade receives a year membership, a patch to wear with honor and a few other gifts from WWMG. Apprenticeship Program allows for Crusaders to become more involved with the Movement. There are opportunities for a Liaison Chapter Leader Internship Program as well as the State Ambassador Apprenticeship Program. Cultivating leadership skills is just one more way to pay the Empowerment forward for our Crusaders. All of these programs can be found listed on our website, WOMENOFWORTH.BIKE.

Happy 95th Birthday Mt. Olive Pickle Com

Fans today can enjoy a crisp Mt. Olive Pickle thanks to the forward-thinking business leaders of the North Carolina town of Mount Olive back in 1926. That’s right: America’s favorite pickle company is 95 years old. In the 1920s, several produce markets in town served a wide agricultural region. While cucumbers grew well in the area, there wasn’t much market for them. Faced with bumper crops of cucumbers rotting in the fields, the group established a pickle company, reasoning that a new market for area farmers would benefit the local economy. They named the company for their hometown.

12

Organized on January 2, 1926 and formally incorporated a few weeks later in February, Mt. Olive Pickle Company started with $19,000 in capital and a 3,600 SF building. By year’s end, 37 local men and women – among them merchants, physicians, prominent farmers, railroad men, and even one 23-year-old mechanic still living at home – had invested in the fledgling firm. In the earliest days, employees used old coffee pots to pour sweet pickle brine into jars. At night after supper, the directors of the company, including the local bank president, would go down to the plant to glue on the jar labels. Less than 20 years later, in 1943, Mt. Olive implemented a profit sharing plan for employees, one of the first 200 companies in the country to do so. That plan is still in place today.

From those humble, yet visionary beginnings, Mt. Olive Pickle Company grew to be the best-selling brand of pickles, peppers and relishes in the U.S. Today the company employs 1,200 people who pack and sell 230 million jars of product annually. Mt. Olive continues the commitment to the idea that a strong company makes for a strong community, focusing on producing quality, innovative products and serving customers well. In turn, 2020 was a record year for company giving: Mt. Olive provided over $1.1 million in financial support and products to non-profits. “It’s amazing to think that the company was started by people who simply wanted to make their community better,” said Greg Smith, vice president of sales & marketing. “It’s even more amazing that we are still here and going strong 95 years later.” Amazing, indeed. Happy Birthday, Mt. Olive. Lynn Williams, Public Relations Manager at Mt. Olive Pickle Company.

Snow Reason Not To Ride We asked you to send in photos of what you do when it snows and you are not able to ride your motorcycle...we were overwhelmed with photos! Here are a few of them.

What else but ride your bicycle in it and make snow angels! Alice in Nash County, N.C.

Having moved down here from Rochester NY I had put my bikes away every winter. But right by my home on Lake Ontario there were many ponds. There were a group of dirt bikers that had tires with spikes and they would ride on the ice that formed on the ponds. Stanton Mesh - NC

Tucker, the biker dog, from Nash County, N.C. says he’s tired of snow! He says, pee on this!

Go sledding, of course! Leila in Rapid City, S.D.

Dodging snowballs and shredding the gnar....Jason Gupton with Rowdy Ryker.

This is a whole new meaning for snow tires....Rowdy Ryker in Nash County, N.C.

Raleigh Clayton Area Riders - RCA Storyand photos: Michelle Nelson Honecutt In the past couple of months the members of Raleigh Clayton Area Riders (RCAR) had the pleasure to show respect for some of the greatest heroes ever, our Veterans. On December 19th many of our members participated in Wreaths Across America. A group ride was designated to the Raleigh National Cemetery to place wreaths on the graves of Veterans. The cold weather didn’t stop us from showing up to acknowledge, and show our respect and deepest gratitude for the admirable sacrifices these men & women had so selflessly given. We also returned to the Cemetery on January 9th to help remove the wreaths.

Then on January 10th, we were honored to escort a Marine to his final resting place. More than a hundred bikers started in Hudson, FL. to escort USMC Corporal Steven J. Bradley to his family in Clayton, NC. RCAR was able to join in SC and assist in the escort. The impact that these events left on our members was heartfelt and very personal. Bikers know... Riding is the greatest sense of Freedom. RCAR would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to each and every one who is serving or has served our country to ensure our Freedom. Be Safe Out There & Let’s Ride!!

Raleigh Clayton Area Riders (RCA) is a group of people who have one passion in common, To Ride Motorcycles. Now with more than 700 members, this Facebook Community was first started on July 21, 2020 by Greg Toback and co-founder, Dan McCormick.

Old School Bike Shop

Louisburg, NC

story: Doobie photos: Gail Dawes, George Horton, & Doobie

6 February 2021 It was a great day today at Old School Bike Shop LLC for a little get together in remembrance of Gary Tant and the Biker Barn! George cooked up some mean Biker Barn pork chops and he also had boiled potatoes, butter beans, string beans, and broccoli casserole, and corn. It was all amazing! George is an awesome cook! Many folks brought a covered dish or homemade dessert. There was so many and it was all so delicious!!! It was so nice to see ol’ friends again and share our memories of Gary and the Biker Barn! Many told funny stories about Gary that they remembered or things about Gary that were special to their heart. He was a very dear friend to so many! We miss him so!

Remembering Gary of The Biker Barn It was also a great time for everyone to get a look at the Old School Bike Shop first hand and see what Gregg has been up to lately. He has been very busy with bikes being serviced, repaired, and with custom builds. Gregg carries on the tradition from the Biker Barn to the Old School Bike Shop. He is meticulous with his work when working on motorcycles! I know...Gregg works on my bike and has for many years!

They pay very close attention to every detail. Everything they touch looks much better after they detail it than when it came off the showroom floor! That’s a promise! Give Gregg a call and make an appointment with all of your bike needs today and give George a call for all of your detail needs! You’ll be glad you did. Thanks for your support of biker owned businesses!

The Bullw Chron By Bob Seymour Six years ago today my kids and I stood out in freezing temperatures in a snowstorm at the end of a hole in the ground to bid our final farewell to Toots. The night before I stood before several hundred people and delivered her eulogy without shedding a tear because the anointing of the Spirit was resting on me. I don’t remember everything I said but I remember the Spirit whispering to me that He had “anointed me to present the gospel...” and that He would give me the words to speak when I stood at the pulpit. The anointing was more than powerful that night but the next morning I was a total mess. I had to call Fred, the brother I co-pastored the church with, and ask him to officiate the graveside ceremony because I knew I wouldn’t be able to maintain my emotions. I managed to stay next to the grave until Fred finished reading some scriptures and committing her body to the grave but as soon as he said Amen at the end of his prayer I turned and walked through the snow to my truck..... The source of many of the nightmares I have stem from seeing the pine box with her body in it suspended over that frozen dark hole as the wind whipped the snow. It took years for that memory to lose its power over my emotions and even though I occasionally wake up from a nightmare of that morning the residual effects only last a few minutes instead of hours..... From the first time I heard the word cancer the Spirit of God began to show me these verses from 2 Corinthians, “May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. God Offers Comfort to All. All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us...” At the time all I got out of those words was that He would give me the grace to go through the valley and that He would comfort my spirit.

26

After 6 years of life on the road I’ve felt that grace and comfort manifest not only in my own life but in the lives of thousands of people I’ve met that are going through their own storm. In the beginning of the journey all I wanted was to either die or find a cave to run and hide in but the Spirit kept denying my requests and instead kept leading me further from the past toward the destiny He had set for me. I begged Him a thousand times to end the grieving so I could go on with life but again and again He denied my request. The darkness was debilitating at times but His presence gave me enough light and comfort to retain my sanity. One morning a couple months after burying her I was riding in the mountains of Virginia through thick fog trying to get on the Blueridge Parkway when I cried out for Him to let me get out of the valley and up to the mountain top where I could be closer to Him but again He denied my request. I was crying like a baby when I asked Him to take me out of the valley and the tears became a flood when He spoke these words to me, “You’re not ready to climb the mountain yet son, I have much more to show and teach you in the valley. I have to allow you to go deeper into the depths of grief than most will ever go because I’m going to lead you to many people who have lost all hope and you have to experience a pain greater than theirs. When you come through this valley you will have not only the sympathy and compassion you have naturally but you will have the empathy that is critical for the call I am putting on your life this day..”. When I heard those words I got angry and twisted the throttle up to 70 mph in some of the thickest fog I’ve ever been in hoping I’d end up dead under a truck or flying off of a cliff but thankfully He cleared a path through the fog that morning....

Livin ' The Life BehindBarz.com

winkle

nicles

Today I am more than thankful for the depth of grief I went through because it has allowed me to relate on a gut level with others who have suffered great loss and to share with them the same comfort He gave to me in my darkest days. I would never have chosen this path for my life but because I trusted and followed Him many who would have given up on life now have hope for their future. I don’t know how much longer this journey will last but as long as it does I will continue to share the hope, grace and comfort the Spirit gave to me in midsts of the chaos of my trial. I took a lot of crap from a lot of people including some of my family and my closest friends because I couldn’t shake off the depression and feeling of hopelessness to get my life back to normal but I didn’t allow myself to be angry with them because I understood that they could not understand what was happening to me. Some of the criticisms inflicted deep and painful wounds that my natural man wanted to react to but instead I prayed that their ignorant and sometimes harsh and callous statements would not return to them through the loss of someone they loved deeply. I know many who are going through tragic situations today and I want to encourage them all not to give up. It may feel like all hope is gone but the God I serve will fill your spirit with hope and when the power of grief is overwhelming He will carry you until you can walk again. Today as I look back at the depth of despair He has brought me out of my prayers are for the hurting, the lonely and the lost.... He is waiting with His arms outstretched for you to cry out to Him for hope.....

"Best of the Best"

Enjoying the great food... Doobie & Darron

Some of our favorite eateries!

These are some of our favorite restaurant eats... and some of our favorite foods from those places. The Behind Barz Crew has been all over tasting some of the South’s best foods!

Fresh made lemon cake! Plus, they had so many others to choose from.

SISTERS CAFE Bunn, N.C. Darron and I decided to have a late lunch at Sisters cafe. I’ve always wanted to try their tenderloin and gravy...boy, am I glad that I did! I got the tenderloin plate with mashed potatoes and broccoli casserole. Darron got the tenderloin and gravy plate with fried ocra and mashed potatoes and gravy. Both plates came with bread or a roll.

Tenderloin and gravy plate with broccoli casserole and mashed potatoes!

Our plates came to the table piping hot! Our waitress kept our beverages topped off. And even though we didn’t have anymore room left after our meal, we ordered a slice of their fresh made lemon cake! It was very moist and tasty! One of the many things that Sisters Cafe is known for, other than their overall great food, is their breakfasts! We haven’t gotten their early enough for breakfast but will soon! Their home cooked lunch specials vary every day and they have several different ones to choose from each day. If you check out their Facebook page the specials and many sides are posted there every morning for your viewing.

Friendly folks!

They are located in Bunn, are easy to find and they are a biker friendly business! They are open Monday - Friday 5:30am - 2pm and Saturday 6am - 11am. Closed on Sundays. Stop by and visit Sisters Cafe, enjoy a great meal, and pick up your free copy of Behind Barz Motorcycle Mag, while you are at it! Darron & Doobie

From The Mind of I slapped the battery in and with a few gags to the throttle she was rumbling out her sweet melody. I say to Hell with this. This bike is sounding good. I went in the house grabbed my helmet and let her hit the wind for a few miles. I was just digging into the throttle and letting the bike chug up some gas. I hit a few of the backroads around my house and let the neighborhood kids hear those pipes as my bike screamed past their houses. Man! That just feels good! I just put everything past me...the virus, the house, the crap election. I just dropped it all on the asphalt and left it behind me. I wanted to just keep digging into that throttle and forget the world for awhile and You know what? I did. I got back home and parked that Harley under the shed, hung my helmet up and I felt good inside. It’s the best therapy in the world, if you ask me.

Big Ed aka 2Timer

Hello You Happy People! Happy Spring to y’all!! I didn’t get to ride much in January. Me and my wife decided to jump on an opportunity we had to remodel the bathroom. Ripping down the old paneling and replacing with sheetrock and replacing the toilet, the tub, and the vanity. Inside “Honey Do” list that had been needing some attention for some time. When all was done with that I had me a good ol’ fire in the backyard and kept a good eye on the blaze as I downed with a few beers. The whole month has been screwed up with the Virus hitting my family members, including myself. We had to do everything late. Christmas parties, family gatherings, and we are yet to get a Birthday party done for my daughter. But we’ll get it done before you read this article...I promise. While I was out in the yard I figured I’d go out to the shed and check on my bike. You know, give her a crank and let the girl run for a bit. It took a minute, I guess my charger just can’t hang during the really cold moments but once I charged the battery on the big battery charger she sang.

32

Something about it man, riding motorcycles, it’s just something about it that feeds my soul. I remember back in the day. I was working at Dupont. I was 18 years old and I really didn’t have a trade or any skills back then. I was just a poor boy who was getting a taste of the real world. I worked 12 hour shifts at night and my job was to push and pull cart loads of product to other areas of the plant. It was hard work. The carts were big and old and the wheels won’t in the best shape. I remember them sometimes being a struggle to get them to move, plus I was like 150 pounds soak and wet back then. So, sometimes it took every bit of strength I had to get them going. Those nights were long and most of the work was coming from my back, so there wasn’t much going on in the brain department. This gave me a lot of time to day dream, and trust me people. I was 18 years old. There was just only a few things on my mind. Women, getting high, more women and winning some sort of lottery. We didn’t have scratch offs and lottery back then like we do now. The only thing you could wish to win big back then was a visit from Ed McMahon. I’ll let you research that for those who ain’t old enough to understand that. Very often my day dreams would fall on hitting like 20 million. 20 million dollars sounds like a good round about number. With that I could throw some towards my family so mom and dad could chill for life. Then I’d head straight to the motorcycle shop. There I’d buy the bike of my dreams and my road gear. I’d pack what I needed and head west to chase the sun right out of the sky. Bare bones and check out this great nation from Behind Barz. I’d go to places I’ve always wanted to go, like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and the Badlands in South Dakota. I’d head over to California and drop into those wild head shops I’ve heard about. Then run over to Yampa Valley, Colorado. Just because of it’s beauty. Then turn my forks towards the south and chase the Worm in a bottle down in Mexico.

Big Ed... I wouldn’t need a lot of comfort and shine. I’d camp off the side of the road somewhere at night and maybe burn me a chicken or something on top of my fire. Then lay back and maybe burn me some sticky green in a bowl and watch the stars as the moon dances across the sky. When I start to smell like a junk yard Dog. I’d knock the road dust off my boots at some five star hotel. Walk my rough ass to the counter and watch the jaws drop from the high society upper class as I drop those Benjamins on the counter top to pay for a room. Hell yea, son!. That was my day dreams back then. I always thought that would be the way to live. Young and have that much money. Shit, that’s freedom of unimaginable sorts!. Those day dreams carried me right on through some very long nights pushing and pulling those carts around. Now days, I don’t day dream much. Life has made some good turns. No, my bank account ain’t high rollin’ but I have some beautiful children and I have a beautiful wife and you can say I’m living my day dreams these days. I spend my time chillin’ with my family and still get to hit the road and let that Harley carry me down that black top chasing the horizon. Ain’t nothing wrong with that. I see my brothers in the club and share some laughs. Life ain’t all about that dollar. It’s about making memories with your friends and family and sharing some adventures on that open road. Well folks, I’m going to leave you with that. It’s not going to be long now. Spring is about to swing back our way and it’s going to be great to drop those heavy leathers and catch some sun and the breeze to the knees. Y’all be safe out there and I’ll see you once again, Behind Barz.

Big Ed / 2Timer

the good news! ”Here’s Your Sign” Bikers, are a against the grain mindset. It’s shaped by a heart to ride free Behind Barz. Our World view looks forward through arms raised with hands wrapped to control Clutch, Gear, Throttle, and Brake. Clutch at the ready to move, changing gears to determine distance, and throttle for how fast one wants to get there, brake at arrival. The past two Months, I’ve had the clutch pulled in and determined looking forward to hear the command, ”Let’s Ride”. Anticipating the “Sound of our people” throttling up shifting gears pushing RPM’s exhaust into the amosphere, dreaming of the freedom of no stop signs...thats my kind of freedom. I am reminded of the song, “ Signs” by the “Five Man electrical band” back in 1971. Lead vocalist Les Emmerson wrote the song after a road trip on Route 66 in California where he noticed scores of billboard signs that blocked Gods creation scenery. “Do this don’t do that, can’t you read the signs”? Today, everywhere we go are signs, on doors, windows, tables, wear a mask, keep apart, sit here, don’t sit here, in this door and out this one.

Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak Thee Redeemed House biker Church

Here’s Jesus’ only billboard sign . John 3:14-17 14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whosoever believes in Him, will have eternal life. 16 for God so loved the world (you), that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 for God did not send His Son to condemn the world (you) ,but in order that you would be saved through Him.” Release the clutch, gear up with full throttle to the Cross and ride free set free by the only Sign that matters. Here’s your sign...the Cross of Christ!

Am chomping at the bit to foot slap a kickstand, release the clutch, gear up the throttle to a road that will take me as far away from signs...An open road, free from any sign that bids for my attention . The only sign I want to see is others with this same mind and heart set, “Not of this world”, N.O.W. Jesus prayed f or the Disciples, in John 17:14,15,16. “ I have given them Your Word, and the world has hated them because they are not of this world. 15 I do not ask that You take them out of the world, but that You keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They are not of this world, just as I am not of this world”.

We Say Good Bye photos courtesy of: Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum

Dale Walksler Dale Walksler, founder and curator of Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum, passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side, at home on February 3, 2021, after a courageous four year battle with cancer. An entrepreneur as a teenager, Dale Walksler found his life’s passion in motorcycles. In 1967 at the age of 15, Dale built his first motorcycle, sparking a life-long love affair with American Motorcycles and their history. At the age of 18 he bought and sold Harley-Davidson parts during high school before launching Dale’s Hogs motorcycle store in Illinois. At 22, Dale established a Harley-Davidson Franchise in Mt. Vernon, Ill: Dale’s HarleyDavidson. His signal success as a dealer grew to include the decades-long work that would define his life: the creation of the museum we now know as Wheels Through Time.. In 2002 Dale opened the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. From humble beginnings in a small Illinois town, one of the world’s premier collections of rare and vintage American motorcycles, automobiles, and memorabilia emerged. Wheels Through Time became an Iconic American Institution and known internationally.

Dale was always looking for the next big challenge, and in 1997 he took Maldwyn Jones’ 1917 Henderson, which Jones used in a 24-hour endurance run, and broke the cross country record set by Alan Bedell in 1917. The journey took Dale from LA to New York in 6 days and 6 hours. His spirit of adventure will always live on.

Dale’s vision was not just one of preserving the past but was also focused on the future. In that regard, he made great strides to ensure that the museum and his legacy would carry on for generations to come. Although the Dale’s Wheels Through Time Museum is open to the public only six months each year, more than 100,00 visitors pass through its exhibits annually. From December through April, the staff restores bikes and arranges new exhibits. Dale was a man of vision, zeal, intensity, imagination, and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the staff at Wheels Through Time, and as well as by the countless tens of thousands who have visited the museum.

From the ground up - Throughout his life, Dale has built everything the same way, from the ground up with skill and precision. Throughout the museum, in every bike and even through those who have met Dale, the passion, care, and attention for detail is evident. His vision will continue to move forward, always as Dale said, “exceeding expectation.”

Left: When it came to vintage motorcycles, Dale helped redefined the meaning of preservation. He had a natural ability to recognize a “diamond in the rough” and spent a lifetime chasing and acquiring America’s most historic and original machines. This mission led him to found Wheels Through Time in 1993. Over the next several decades, Dale assembled what many consider to be the best collection of rare American motorcycles in the world.
