Cannon Hinnant Benefit Ride Written By: Moe
Photos By: Moe and Gypsy
On August 22nd, 2020, 423 Bikers gathered at The Bottom Bar in Goldsboro, NC, to ride in honor of Cannon Hinnant, a 5 year old child tragically murdered on August 9th in Wilson, NC. The Bikers and the Cagers formed a 12 mile long line and rode from Goldsboro to Wilson and back to Goldsboro to The Bottom Bar, where BBQ plates and BBQ by the pound were sold. Also, a silent auction was held to raise money to be donated to the Eastern NC Make a Wish Foundation in Cannons name as requested by Cannon’s family. Bikers from all over NC, Virginia, West Virginia and SC attended the benefit. Nine teams of cooks, along with their Volunteers, dubbed “Team Cannon”, stayed up all night prior to the benefit, preparing the food to be served. 1200 pounds of BBQ was cooked and sold at the benefit. The Make a Difference Food Pantry in Mount Olive, NC, cooked and donated all the sides served with the meals. Believe me, the food was amazing! $13,057.00 was raised and ALL the monies raised was donated to Eastern NC Make A Wish Foundation. Three children will be able to enjoy their wish from the money raised. Many thanks goes out to Cindy Goodman and Reggie Davis for organizing the ride, John Kearney and The Bottom Bar for organizing the cooking of the food, Jordan and Jessica Boggs of The Bottom Bar for hosting the fundraiser, Team Cannon for cooking the pigs, all the sponsors for their donations, The Goldsboro Police Department, Wayne County Sheriffs Department, Wilson Police Department, NC Highway Patrol, and all the Bikers and Cagers that made the Memorial Ride and Fundraiser an amazing success. #Cannon Hinnant #Say His Name #Justice for Cannon

nc packs4 patriots Support Our Local Heroes
Friends : NCPacks4Patriots is facing a crisis for our holiday care packages. During the time we have been packing care packages dental offices have conducted candy buyback programs for Halloween candy from their patients. We inspect this candy carefully and then sort out what can be used for Christmas packages and send that candy onto the troops. This year we are finding out that dental offices are not conducting the candy buyback programs due to Covid-19. Last year we received close to 9000 pounds of candy which lasted for several months in care packages. Our deployed troops do not have the luxury of being able to stop at a convenience store whenever they want a candy bar. The only snacks come in care packages. Please please purchase candy for our care packages. You can also order from Amazon. Please ask your grocery store managers if they have candy that they would donate. Nothing says Christmas more than chocolate candies so let’s get stocked up on candy for care packages.

Photo above: Great morning of volunteers work by ECU Det. 600 Air Force ROTC! Bagged teabags so they fit well in our packages!
We need you to join our team for Christmas packages! Ideas: Order items from Amazon, assemble goody bags with 6-8 items in a sandwich or party bag, add 2-3 small unbreakable ornaments and signed cards. Make as many as your family, church or bike group can help with! Make financial contributions for postage. Groups are welcome to setup GoFund me pages for postage. Make holiday crafts. Purchase holiday decorations - lightweight and unbreakable. Our financial donations have dropped significantly and monetary donations for postage is our greatest need. Please don’t forget our military members who are serving away from home and family during the holidays. Thank you!

What a mesmerizing book! Gloria Tramontin Struck has been riding a motorcycle for over 75 years! ...and she is still riding on two wheels, at the age of 95! Gloria is one of the early members of the Motor Maids, a women’s motorcycle club. She joined in 1946 at the age of 21. She is both a Sturgis Hall of Fame and Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductee! Gloria has ridden a motorcycle in every US state and a number of European countries, as well! She travels every year to convention with the Motor Maids wherever that may be. The location of the MM convention changes every year to a different state and sometimes Canada. Gloria has ridden her motorcycle from her New Jersey home to every one of them! She is defenately a lifetime motorcycleist and has met and rode alongside some pretty interesting and famous people over the years...Evel Knievel, Lorenzo Lamas, Charlie Brechtel and Jay Leno just to name a few. Gloria Tramontin Struck has been Living The Life and has done and seen more than many of us ever will! The cover of her book is actually a painting of Gloria by her famous artist friend, David Uhl.

Women of Worth
On The Open Road Empowering Women What a Season of Sisterhood!!!
As much as riding the open road can be solo therapy, it is also about a social aspect that only riders would understand. The comradery, loyalty and respect is unwavering and rare in today’s society. It is just that, together with the Sisterhood of WWMG that is taking this mission to endless possibilities in 2021 and beyond. Growing by leaps and bounds we are moving into a non-profit organization. We now have programs within the organization that offer mentorship as well as a Renegade of the Month and Year. The compassion from the ladies with all the empowering ideas for the mission is amazing and endearing. In September, a group of Crusaders left for a seven - day adventure. From veteran riders to absolute beginners, they supported each other while traveling, both trailered and riding, to Tennessee. Once there, together they traveled the many beautiful mountainous routes and…they SLAYED THE DRAGON!!!!!! An accomplishment not to be taken lightly…. Women of Worth Crusaders share such a strong commitment to empowering and mentoring women to have the strength, self-worth and beliefs that they can ride the wind, wherever that may lead. Across the United States, and in two other countries, there is always an open-door policy for a sister. Whether she needs a place to crash on her journey, or a place of support and mentorship for her journey, they are always there.

Hosted by Exiled Motorcycle Club ~ Bracey, VA
Exiled MC’s Annual YNAD event a HUGE Success “There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.” ― Mandy Hale There is a lot of truth in those words. To find a single individual that truly goes out of their way for others is definitely possible but how easy is it to find an entire group of men who are relentless and genuinely authentic in their pursuit of being a beautiful difference in their community? Add to that, how easy is it to find a community that supports that group of men beyond anyone’s wildest imagination? It is extremely rare but I have personally witnessed how it exists within Exiled Motorcycle Club and the Bracey, Va. Community. This is something that can be witnessed on any given day throughout the year but it shines particularly bright during YNAD (Your Not Alone Day). YNAD may come only once a year, normally the first Saturday in October, but the dedication and hard work can be seen months in advance of the actual event. Never have I personally witnessed a group of people get so emotionally attached to an event – much less a group of “burly bikers” but Exiled MC is not your stereotypical “Motorcycle Club”. Their fan base runs deep within the Bracey community. The support for the YNAD event extends out to other big hearted motorcycle clubs and communities in surrounding areas. It is because of this, that even in the craziness of 2020, YNAD was a huge success! All of the proceeds from the event this year went to Clyde Bracey, fighting kidney disease and Nicholas Wilson, who is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. YNAD’s Poker Run brought out 116 motorcycles and 20 “cages” including some beautiful hotrods, trucks and jeeps. Both the silent auction and live auction produced amazing results after the Poker Run. Beautiful handmade crocheted blankets were donated by Amy Snodgrass, Rebecca Kegley and Yolanda Dorrier. The winning bid for Kegley’s blanket came from Thomas Klegg and was then given to Tiffanie Stiltner by several MC members and other attendees as a token of appreciation for her vision and hard work in making YNAD the success it is today. Stiltner is the creator and inspiration behind YNAD.

facebook.com/behindbarzmag
There was also a huge outpouring of donations from local businesses and individuals within the community that contributed in making both of the auctions a success. Furr’s Deli, located in Bracey, donated 40% of their Deli sales for the day as well as winning the bid on Snodgrass’s blanket. Total Image Solutions also made several donations that had a huge impact on the money generated for this year’s YNAD families. The generosity and the compassion openly displayed during the auction left many attending (and hosting) the event in happy tears. The event closed with live entertainments, great food and drinks and with wonderful fellowship with those who chose to stay after the auction came to an end. This was a new addition to YNAD this year. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day and I am positive there was many people who woke up on Sunday morning excited about YNAD 2021! 2020 has brought a lot uncertainty, fear and disappointment for many people and, if just for a day, I hope people attending YNAD had their faith restored in the level of kindness, compassion, love and fellowship we all want/ need to see in this world because it DOES exist within Exiled MC and the Bracey community. story by: Missy Elliott Johnson photos by: Cindy Clayton Merino, Shana Williams Steffey and Missy Elliott Johnson

BEHIND BARZ ~ Sorez The one constant throughout life, Winds blowing by. Always out there, somewhere, calm as a whisper. Elsewhere, thundering down with rage. Accompanied by screaming shadows, in the dust, kicked up by the Wind. Once again, having a fit out there. Every now and then, somewhere.. out there.. riding in the wind... Roads that have been freshly paved, but are still a danger baking in heat. Cagers on the left and two the right. And the only way is fast and forward. Away from those ever present dangers. Even if only for one more mile, One more moment, of living the lifestyle that I promised myself as a child to ride. That I would grow up to be a biker. Riding down the highway of life. Two wheels and Open Roads my quest and the Wind my salvation. Behind Barz! Where Every Moment Matters and a mile turns into a lifetime. Out there, upon two wheels. In search of open roads where the sun shines, the mind clears and spirit revives in the wind. Welcoming miles on roads once treacherous. Calming winds that where for some time as dangerous as the road itself. Although every single moment out there is cherished. Saddle bags filled with memories of brothers and sisters who have come to know each other. With the deepest of love and respect. People who are bear hugged and not let go of. Knowing our journeys on the road at times will take us in different directions, but as long as we are Behind Barz in the wind, Our roads, no doubt, shall cross again.

In Memoriam: Mike Sanchez, The Great Big Life of One Biker
19
Sanchez with his dog: “Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.” ― Anonymous Santa Chez getting ready to ride.
A man who knew that a tankful of gas and good intentions got you on the road that is paved with at least a little bit of heaven on earth...
There are some souls who show up and you wish the world had about a million more just like them. Okay, asking for a million would be on the wrong side of greedy, but If we could just have a few more folks just like him or her, then life wouldn’t be so hard around here; life would hold a little more fun and a lot more good vibrations. The great big life of Mike Sanchez fits the bill for that. If there were just a few more of the Sanchez types, then the laughter and brotherhood would surely have a firmer foothold. When people speak of Mike Sanchez, it’s like they are talking about a character from a movie or a great TV show. Let’s say 70 percent “Easy Rider” and 30 percent “It’s a Wonderful Life.” I mean, what could be better than that combo? When we asked local bikers and friends to share their Sanchez stories, you couldn’t get people to stop talking. From the way people tell it, Mike Sanchez was everything from a brilliant master carpenter, a boundless source of positive energy, a natural-born counselor, a person who would stand in and help a kid when he needed a good man to take him fishing or offer some encouragement, and a music enthusiast who knew all the Skynyrd lyrics (he even did security for Lynyrd Skynyrd back in the day and his job responsibilities once included having to haul drummer, Artemis Pyle, over his shoulders and put him back to work at the drum-kit after Pyle had decided to take an unscheduled break mid-concert!). There’s an old saying, Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul...Mike Sanchez rode hard and played hard and was 100 percent living from his soul on every ride he took, but never more than at Christmas time. Back in 1996, Sanchez and his beloved wife, Gina, decided that the true meaning for Christmas in their family was going to be taking care of those who needed a helping hand. They determined the best use of their assistance would be the Raleigh Rescue Mission and they started creating a holiday tradition that bikers around Wake County still talk about.
By: Deana Vassar, Marshall Kearney, Dan Shanahan and a host of good elves. Photos provided by: Denise Sanchez
Santa Chez & Mrs. Claus, Denise.
Gina didn’t want to go half-way with their holiday project, so she stitched up a gorgeous heart-red Santa suit for her man and Santa Chez was born! Gina and Mike knew that to make a difference for Christmas at the Rescue Mission they needed to get plenty of good elves on the job so the plan was to make feeding the hungry for the holidays a good old-fashioned competition. Participating bars in the area would have 55 gallon barrels installed to collect food and toy donations. The bar that collected the most food won the “Cycle Santa Ride” contest and the prize was incredible! When springtime came back around, the winning bar won a pig pickin’ with all the fixings including entertainment from a live band. Over the years, what began with just Mrs. Claus (Gina), Santa Chez and a couple of riders, became a holiday tradition with over 30 bikers being Santa’s reindeer and ushering the man in red to the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Adding to unforgettable tradition, was the last stop on the run at Mike and Little Deb’s place (Blistering Pines) where everyone participated in the annual “buttery nipple” toast in memory of Gina. After the tragic death of the original Mrs. Claus, Mike’s beloved Gina, God smiled down on him because Mike was able to find true love again with Denise, a treasured friend from his former life in Pennsylvania. He marveled at the miracle of finding that sort of heart bond again and Denise brought her own brand of joy and enthusiasm to the annual Santa Run. What a blessing she became to Mike and the Run. Not only has Denise always been a great person, but she can also ride the hell out of a motorcycle. This Christmas, remember that there is a Santa Claus...And he looks different to different kinds of folks. But in the memory of many Wake County, NC bikers he looks like the late, great Mike Sanchez. Always a smile, always a helping hand and a willingness to drop whatever was on his agenda and assist someone in need. With this group of folks, Santa likes Skynyrd, star-gazing, tequila and keeping the spirit of brotherhood 365 days a year. To be one of those rare souls who change the atmosphere with your smile, your humor, your kindness and goodness, that truly makes for a wonderful life...

The Bullw Chron 2020….what a crazy ride through time it’s been and it has indeed been one hell of a trip for most but if you’re reading this it means you’re still in the game so there’s still hope….. There are a lot of hurting people all around us and many of them have lost hope because of the chaos being fueled by the current political turmoil and general divisions among us that are being intentionally exploited. Like most bikers I’ve grown accustomed to being profiled or marginalized by society but I have chosen not to allow the mantras created by Hollywood and believed by millions to keep me from attempting to break the mold they’ve made for us. I’m a hopeful optimist who has much love for the people I meet and I try to pass on to others the hope I have been blessed with. I believe in America and I have hope for our restoration but I’m also a realist so I understand that the restoration of our country will never come through the government or it’s legislation process. I also understand that restoring the America I grew up in is likely not going to happen in the short term but will take an unwavering commitment to do whatever I can to influence the people God has me cross paths with. Despite Hollywood’s depiction of who bikers are, we are some of the most generous, kind, loving and talented people anyone could hope to meet. Every leather wearing, tattooed, rough talking, scooter loving partier, aka biker, have people in our circles who are struggling to get through life in the midst of the chaos surrounding them and I believe with everything in me that we can and should try to help them.
With the holidays fast approaching and no end to the chaos in sight tensions are going to increase and with it a rise in tensions but it doesn’t have to be that way for the few we each know. If we truly love our country, and I know of no more patriotic Americans than bikers, we have to take the initiative to reach out to them because the majority of them believe the entertainment industry’s portrayal of us and are afraid to be around us. We have to do what the churches of America are failing miserably at, i.e. to go where the hurting and lost are to offer them help and with it hope. I want to challenge everyone who reads this to find someone outside the scooter world this holiday season and do a simple act of kindness for them. If we want to see the restoration of America it has to start with each of us making an effort to make a difference in the lives of the people in our world. These pictures are just a few of the people I’ve met and reached out to…..

Stilettos on Steel Riding motorcycles is all about the journey, not the destination, and the journey into riding for the ladies who ride is as myriad as the ladies themselves. Some ladies began their journey into riding because a husband or friend encouraged them to, some ladies started because they thought it looked fun and were tired of waiting for someone else to take them for a ride, others ventured into riding as a means of relaxation and escaping the stress of life for a while. Others have gone through some of life’s hard knocks and riding has helped them to find their strength, to help them in overcoming the odds of addiction and even incarceration. Do you see yourself in any of these descriptions? Stilettos on Steel is an example of these strong, independent women who ride. No matter what the reason, these ladies not only found riding companions, but also found comradery and sisterhood in Stilettos on Steel. The sisterhood of SOS is central to its members and is its appeal. Stilettos on Steel is a Female Riding Group and the only requirement, other than respecting one another and enjoying riding with the ladies, is a $40 yearly fee. There are no mandatory meetings nor rides; you participate in the way that fits your life. The demands aren’t there, the sisterhood always is. The ladies of Stilettos include but are not limited to, CEOs, child care providers, teachers, health care workers, veterans, entertainers, retirees, homemakers, business owners, managers, office workers, non-profit organizers, IT administrators, self-made mechanics, and I could go on and on. We even have ladies who not only ride their bike but take their bike apart and work on it themselves. Stilettos on Steel is currently in 17 states: CALIFORNIA, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, ILLINOIS, IOWA, KENTUCKY, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MISSOURI, NEW YORK, NORTH CAROLINA, OHIO, SOUTH CAROLINA, TENNESSEE, TEXAS, UTAH, and WISCONSIN. Check us out, 2021 Membership opened October 1st! Don’t see your state? Contact us through the website. We’d be happy to support you in bringing SOS to where you are. Come join a strong sisterhood, we’d love to have you!

From The Mind of
Big Ed aka 2Timer
Hello You Happy People! I got to tell ya. I love it. I love this life. I love the people who cherish this way of life like I do. The bikes, the wind, the ride, and the bonds made when you share the open road. Folks, I can’t express the gratitude I felt when we had the LOCO SHOWDOWN at the Kinston Drag Strip for our 10th Anniversary. We had so much support. I was standing at the gates and folks where just constantly coming in. I can’t thank you folks enough. It was a great day, as well. We had folks burning up the strip with races and seeing how fast they could cross the line. The sounds of those pipes MAN! What more can I say! Not to mention, it was relaxing. With the virus plannedimic folks were tired of sitting around the house. They wanted to come out and watch the races and be around like minded folks. It made the whole thing that much better. People were checking out the chrome in the bike show. They were checking out the venders. People were walking around just feeling good to be out and talking with friends and family. Nasty, which is our president of Unspoken Sons M.C., he threw this out there and wanted to make our 10 year anniversary as a club to be special. It was a gamble, too. With all the fear and B.S. being thrown out there with the virus, we didn’t know if we were going to be able to pull it off. But man, we did!...and I’m so thankful.

I don’t want to push too much out there about my club, but we are more then a club, we are family and we are close and we work at it to keep it that way. With me mentioning family. I got to tell you good people, our club’s anniversary which is a celebration to USS. It’s also a hard time in our hearts, as well. Nine years ago our brother, Jerry Jarman ( Daytona ), was killed by a drunk driver shortly after he left our club house heading home. We celebrate our club’s brotherhood but it’s followed with pain for a great man. I came into the club 4 months before their first year Anniversary. I didn’t get to know Daytona like the rest of the originals did. I got to talk to Daytona and I rode a few rides with him. I remember him being a calm, cool, and collective individual. He seemed to always have a smile on his face and he loved the brothers in the club. Me, Sparky and Daytona went to a local watering hole and he bought me a beer. We sat down at the bar and he started telling me a bit of club history to educate me for the process that was yet to come with my first steps of being in an MC. So, that alone told me he was serious about the club, but also he was open arms to have me as his new brother. That means a lot. So, to remember and celebrate the life of Daytona, the brothers of Unspoken Sons have a ride dedicated to our brother. The Daytona ride. It’s happened every year and it will continue forever in my eyes. We usually make a nice ride around our county of Lenoir. We begin our ride by going to the spot where Daytona left this world behind. We remember the man. We celebrate his life and the brotherhood we share. This year though, we did it a little different. The club decided to head off to Laurel Springs in the North Carolina Mountains. Man, this was a great trip! I ride an ‘08 Nightster. Yea...I know. I’m 6ft 2. I’m also a delightful 275 pounds and I’m riding a sporty. I can hear the comments already. I’m a man with a family. Family comes first then my motorcycle. That’s just the way I roll and the bike is paid for. So, it’s no hair off my ass! But I will say that 88 miles is the starting point for me looking a gas station. It’s also a wonderful feeling to stop for gas on a sporty. My butt is so thankful especially when you stop for the third time for gas. I stretch my legs, burn a cigarette and take a few sips of a drink. Hell, I’m ready to do another 88 after that! Maybe one day I’ll get me a big boy bike, but my ‘08 Nightster is a good girl and she keeps me in the wind.

Big Ed... Back to the trip. Most of the brothers were able to make the ride this year. So, to roll into the mountains with almost our full crew was sweet as ---- !!! ( I’ll let you fill in the blank ). As soon as I started to see the mountains in the horizon I felt like a kid going to a fair or water park. I was excited and ready to roll up and down that Blue Ridge Parkway. We made it into Laurel Springs a bit later than expected but we made it there safe and in one piece so no need to complain. We stayed at Station’s Inn and Freeborne’s Motel. Which was mighty accommodating with a restaurant and bar being attached to the Motel. We had the entire place to ourselves which was also fantastic. We all celebrated the trip the way Unspoken Sons like to party ( You have to be there ). The next day we headed out for some breakfast and filled our bellies. Shortly after we hit the Blue Ridge and Lord have mercy y’all. It was beautiful! The leaves hadn’t completely changed for USS but the blue horizon of those mountains were breath taking! I also have to mention that the sound of all those bikes wrapping around those mountains was freaking fantastic! I really enjoyed the ride. I mean, we were there to enjoy our brotherhood and to remember the life of a fellow brother. So, it’s bitter sweet. But then to top off that day, one of our brothers took USS to a beautiful overlook of the mountains. As we were enjoying the view and snapping away pictures he drops to his knee and presented a ring to his lady and asked the big question...And she said yes! Congratulations Gump and Shortround!!! I love yall! Anyway, we made it back home after the trip. We once again made it back safe and in one piece. What more can you ask for? We all had a great ride and we got to share a memory with each other that nobody can take away. A wonderful life was ended but a new life was created. That’s good shit y’all! That’s going to be all from me in this one folks. Y’all stay safe out there and I will be seeing you Behind Barz.

LOCO Showd
KINSTON, NC
On September 5th, Unspoken Sons MC, held their LOCO Showdown event at the Kinston, NC Drag Strip, celebrating their 10 year Anniversary. There was an awesome turnout to their event! Bikers from everywhere, from many Clubs and friends and family, attended this Celebration. There was a Bike Show, Car Show, Best Tattoo competition, Best Beard competition, Pin up contest, Burn out competition, and my favorite...the Motorcycle Drag racing. What a way to celebrate a Decade of Brotherhood! Personally, I can’t wait to see what next years celebration brings....Moe The Club started ten years ago, with the thought of Brotherhood in mind. Ten guys wanted something Different, a Club without the drama, but still keeping the old school MC values. A Club with the love of riding two wheels and sharing the black top with your brothers. Who knew that ten years later, Unspoken Sons MC would still be a thriving and growing Motorcycle club. Nasty, the Unspoken Sons President, knew 10 years was definitely an achievement. We’ve come a long way from where we started. We moved from three different club houses. The second one was definitely a favorite among us Brothers. We nicknamed it the “Puke House” for reasons that you had to be there to totally understand it. The club has had some wonderful experiences, but it has had some hardships like with any other Family. The worst was the loss of our Brother Daytona. The Club had just made it to its one year anniversary when Daytona was tragically killed by a drunk driver on his way home. The sorrow and heart break went through us all. In some kind of a spiritual sense, the Club grew even tighter. In a way, Unspoken Sons Brotherhood had to keep the Brotherhood alive to help keep Daytona’s spirit alive and his spirit remains alive and well today. He lives through us all. We love you Daytona.

down 2020 A decade of brotherhood
10 years of traveling the black top we didn’t do alone. We’ve had great support from other Clubs and they’ve shared the Brotherhood love with us. We’ve in return have shared that same love back. We also wanted to show the love for those outside the MC world. To the folks of Lenoir County, who’s always showed up and been by our side. Who’s always helped giving us a helping hand. We have their backs and they have ours. There’s no amount of gratitude enough to express the appreciation we have for them. They’ve all came out to our house when we lost our brother Daytona with pain in their hearts and open arms of support. Nasty wanted this 10 year Anniversary to show how much we appreciate the Brotherhoods amongst us and our other Brothers in different Clubs. Something different to enjoy and talk about for years to come. To make 10 years more than a marker, but a great memory. We agreed with his idea and set out to help make this idea come to life. We were given a beautiful day for the event. The weather was great! The sounds of the bikes burning it down the Kinston drag strip was exciting! People were showing up and they were sharing the same love and Values for this life style we embrace. We had a bike show and car show and chrome was everywhere. I walked the grounds and everyone who came up to me expressed how this 10 year Anniversary for The Unspoken Sons was the best they’ve ever been to. One individual said to me personally, Hey bro, “If you’ve been to one party, you’ve been to them all, but this time y’all took it up to a different level. ”That was awesome to me! It also meant that we’ve accomplished once again what we’ve set out to do. To make an awesome memory shared with Unspoken Sons MC.

Biker Dog Buck story & photos: Colin Cassidy Sometimes I think my dog is smarter than I am. Sounds pretty silly, right? Well, consider the following: He has no job, no bills, no debts, and no schedule to keep. He gets free food, a free place to sleep, toys, treats, and affection from everyone he meets. How did he get it so good? He must know something I don’t. We spend a lot of time together so I’ve had the chance to put a good bit of thought into the subject and I’ve come up with a list of things I’ll share with you. I call it, “Things I’ve Learned from My Dog.” Focus. If you’ve ever played fetch with a dog who really enjoys playing you’ve seen it too. Laser-like focus. The ball is his entire universe and for the half-hour or so he’s trained me to throw it for him, the rest of the world melts away. Every so often I can channel it when I’m riding. Listening to the sound of the bike, feeling the wind, and scanning the road ahead – everything makes sense. I’m not thinking about work or replaying conversations in my mind. I am totally focused on what I’m doing. My eyes, hands and feet working in sync to operate the bike. A seamless fusion of man and machine. He has taught me to find joy in the little things. Happiness comes in small doses. It’s a milkbone, a toy that squeaks, or a bowl of cold water after a long walk. He has taught me how to be happy first thing in the morning; grateful for another day with my best friend. Waking up aching and sore is a gift – at least you woke up! I find joy in all kinds of places now. The feel of a new pair of shoes on my feet that fit just right. I’m grateful to be able to tie them. Or coming home after working hard and jumping in the shower. The feel of the hot water hitting the back of my head as I scrub the dirt off and watch it circle the drain and disappear. Stepping out into the steam-filled bathroom and drawing a smiley face on the mirror. Life aint so bad. Buck has taught me not to feel sorry for myself. My dog has three legs. We were hit by a car last year and both of us got hurt pretty bad. After a handful of surgeries I made a full recovery. Buck didn’t. But he’ll be damned if a bum leg is going to slow him down! The boy ain’t got no quit in him. He didn’t let the crash change him. He still runs and jumps and plays with other dogs. Sure, sometimes he falls down. But he gets right up and keeps going. Don’t try and tell him there’s something he can’t do. He will outrun your dog without thinking twice. He will climb a set of stairs and come down just so he can go up them again. He jumps right up into the sidecar and waits for me to put his goggles on. He can do anything! Except dig. He’s really bad at digging. But that’s ok. It’s important to know your limitations. And it’s even more important to know the difference between knowing your limitations and feeling sorry for yourself. With the assistance of some steel rods and pins, I’m able to walk again. Yeah, it hurts. But I’m not going to let it stop me from living my life. Having said that, I’m not going to run a marathon any time soon. But that’s ok. I’m happy just walking my dog.

I’ve learned a lot about resilience, too. Psychologists define “Resilience” as the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, or tragedy. Webster’s defines it as the ability of a substance or object to spring back into shape. The crash isn’t the only traumatic event in Buck’s past. He’s been attacked by aggressive dogs on three occasions. Most recently, a pit bull bit clean through his right ear. You’d think after these encounters
and His Driver, Colin Cassidy
that he would be more cautious when approaching other dogs – not knowing if they’re friend or foe. He isn’t. He recovers from his wounds and continues trying to make friends with every dog on the planet. A shortsighted person might see this as stupidity. “He hasn’t learned anything!” I take the opposite view. I am amazed by his ability to shrug off trauma and bounce back. You can’t let the past poison your future. As a young man I was hurt a time or two while trying my best to navigate the murky waters of romance. It hurts having your heart broken. Had I known then what I know now, I would have taken comfort in that fact that a bad experience has no bearing on future experiences. Once I found the fortitude to move forward,
I found a love worth nurturing and am proud to announce that I am now engaged to the woman of my dreams. Thanks Buck! I approach life as a constant student. There’s always something else to learn. And Buck is happy to teach me. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that maybe your dog is smarter than you think. If you take the time to watch carefully you just might learn something, too.

the good news! ”Let’s ride!” If I asked you to look at the world today, what would you see? That is a loaded question for today, there is much to see, to know, and to understand. What is the first thing you notice? Are you having trouble trying to focus in on the first thing that comes to your mind? One of the safety instruction one hears before a group ride, is this, you will go where you look. If you look at what’s off the road ,you will drift off of it. It’s important to “Notice” what’s going on surrounding you, but don’t look into it, if you do you’ll go there and it will be a mess. Are you following me? Your destination is focused on the road you’re traveling down. To enjoy the ride and notice the scenery along the journey look where your mind is on it. Are ya upshifting to cruise ,or down to shifting to recognise a problem. Some of the things I’ve noticed when I look at the world today have convinced me to change gears up to cruise and enjoy the ride or down shift to understand the ride. A main conclusion of thought one may have when one looks at the world today, is “ Brother, sister, this world is messed up!”
Rodger Duvall ~ Jesus Freak Thee Redeemed House biker Church
Matthew 24:21 “ For then there will be great tribulation ( a cause of great trouble and suffering). Such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be”... Matthew 24:29,30 “ Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30. Then the Son of man will appear in heaven, and the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of man coming with great power and glory”.
There is good in this world, and today is a great day to ride, and to notice this!
Did you notice the world will mourn? Those of the world will look and take notice in how they didn’t notice Jesus, but now do.
NOTICED Is defined... 1. The fact of observing to something . 2. Notification or warning of something to allow preparations to be made.
There is a destination in all this ride for everyone, there is waiting, a throne room parking lot for whosoever together to ride. K.U. will be announced with a trumpet call!
Look at the world today one will become aware of what’s going on it. The only way to understand the why of its impending warning notice is to know it’s purpose!
We ride for Jesus now, but then we will ride with Jesus! The choice is yours to make. He’s choosing you! This is the event flyer, Going...Interested...or not going ?
This may cause one to down shift here, but its purpose is peace, final peace.
He’s waiting for everyone to gather. Jesus is calling with a knock on the door of your heart! “Let’s Ride” And you won’t look for the world today, you’ll notice The Kingdom to come.
We all want peace, and to desire it is to know conflict. Notice the warning about the world today, from Jesus...

Paul and I My angel here on earth
Kelsey Marshalek Paul got me out of an extremely abusive relationship, and we had been together for 5 years when he asked me to marry him. We had a one year old and a three year old at the time and he had a ten year old and a 9 year old from a previous relationship. Bikes were his life He was in a motorcycle club and lived and breathed it. I had my wedding dress sent to one of his MC brothers’ house because his wife is one of my best friends and I knew if I had it at our home I would show Paul way before our wedding day, lol. The night before Paul’s accident we went to their house so I could try on my dress as our wedding was in less than a month! He actually peeked into the bathroom to see me in it, and was in that boyish mood of giddy excited happiness. We had stayed the night at our friends house because it was late and as I said before our kids are young. The morning of his accident his MC brother and his wife got into an argument and he was hell bent on leaving his wife. Paul (he always wanted to fix people’s problems and make people love everyone) left with his MC brother to talk to him. They went to his MC brothers’ friends house. He had just gotten a new bike (a newer version of Paul’s own bike, a Sportster) and Paul had asked if he could ride it to the gas station a few blocks away and come back.
42
So he got permission and left on the bike. It was on his way back from the gas station when tragedy struck. (The police say he lost control on a gravel patch but everyone who knows him knows that isn’t true and we believe the bike malfunctioned). Paul was still on the bike when it struck a 4 ft. tall retaining wall next to the sidewalk. He was thrown 6 ft. up into the air and 2 ft. away from the retaining wall into a light pole. His MC brother found him, and called his wife and I and he was hysterical telling us that it was so bad and that we needed to get there, now. When we arrived the police officer told me he had seen that people were trying to revive Paul and that life flight had been called but that it was obvious that he had died instantly. They wouldn’t let me closer than two blocks away from him. I laid in the grass across from the mangled bike and cried for 6 hrs until they removed his body and the bike from the scene. His MC brother said he has paul’s face burned into his memory forever because his full face helmet came off but his sunglasses were still on and he had a smile on his face. We both are convinced he was smiling because he died doing the thing he loved to do and he felt free. Paul passed away a few months before what was to be our wedding day. Since bikes were such a huge part of our lives, a month after his accident, I went and took the class to get my motorcycle endorsement and started riding his bike. Then 3 months after his accident I took photos in my wedding dress on his bike to help me heal and move forward.
