GIRLS BASKETBALL

So, what’s new? Our U14 Basketball team has been doing amazingly! We are the DASSA league champions! Recently beating DESC in an intense final, 39-18. We initially began in league pool 2, we beat everyone in our pool and then went through to the quarter finals against NAS, we then played JESS in the semi-finals beating by 10 points before reaching DESC in the final.

Our team has secured layups, jump shots in the key, rainbows and basic dribbling techniques, and has begun to work on two ball dribbling and shots from further out. We have also been regularly shooting free throws, as they can win or lose a game, and our consistency has clearly improved when we put the techniques in practice in our games. The rainbow drill and the figure of 8 drill as well as 3-man weave back into a 2 on 1 are all excellent drills for practicing in more intense, game like conditions, as they allow us to cheer and pressure each other to score, and reach an aim of 20 baskets, 10 baskets, etc

Moreover, having been coached by amazing trainers: Miss Hember and Coach Milos from Dubai Basketball Club, we can start to see major improvement in the confidence of the players on the court. Everyone, from the strongest player to the beginner, has taken the ball to the basket aggressively, has made passes with 100% accuracy, and has taken shots without fear of missing. I, as captain, think this is what makes the best team. The team that has the most potential to win the leagues, and I am excited to see what we will be able to do next year.

An opportunity which has become available to us next year is an incredible 5-day trip to Spain, Valencia, where we will learn to put our practice against different teams and players. I am confident that DC and the incredible sports coaches and facilities will create more and more challenging opportunities for us to improve. I look forward to next season!
