Practice gratitude and positivity What are 5 good things about your day today?
THE SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA The Solar Plexus, which is also known as the Manipura, is located in the middle of the stomach, just below the rib cage. Connected to the fire element, the Solar Plexus can be represented by a yellowish/red colour but is more commonly shown with just yellow.
This Chakra is heavily connected to the digestive system, as its predominant function is to transform matter, more specifically your food, into energy. This also means that this Chakra works consistently with your metabolism.
In addition to the digestive system, the Solar Plexus Chakra is also responsible for interior traits such as self confidence, expression of will, and intellectual abilities.
Some signs that your Solar Plexus may be out of balance could include a serious desire to be in control, manipulativeness, feelings of helplessness, and more.
If you are experiencing any of the above, or just want to make sure your Solar Plexus is in alignment, here are some ways to realign your Sacral Chakra:
Connect yourself to the outdoors and the sun. This can be done by going for a walk, visiting the beach, or even just sun tanning in the backyard. Other options include meditation, yoga, and the inclusion of affirmations for the Solar Plexus into your daily life.

Taurus Full Moon By: Savita Moon Child
Think back to Spring and the energy surrounding the new moon in Taurus. What was it you were manifesting at that time? What intentions did you set back then? How have they changed? How have your intentions come to fruition over the past six months? Did they manifest the way you expected them to?
Full moons are a fantastic way to allow you to embrace your accomplishments and also release all that no longer serves you. As the new moon entered Libra you would have gained clarity and better understanding to start new projects and initiate ideas.
Full moons are a great time to indulge in some self care, as the sign of Taurus is well known for welcoming sensual pleasures. What does indulging mean to you? It could simply be treating yourself to a fancy meal at your favourite restaurant, or finding ways to relax, like meditating, yoga, or walking in the woods. Singing! Taurus relates to the throat and neck. This is a lovely way to express yourself. Laugh and shout too. Listen to music. Feed your soul by blasting your favourite tunes and singing along.
Taurus is ruled by the love planet Venus and is a reminder to live a life you love and express gratitude for what you truly value. The planet Venus will highlight if you are resisting self-care. Do you feel that you are not deserving of your own love and care? Do you ever allow yourself to rest and pause? These are ways of blocking the universal flow and energy of receiving and this moon is here to help clarify and amend these thoughts in order to receive and be able to give.
During this full moon, utilise the time for taking a break, indulge in a relaxing spa treatment, meditate, or even simply have a glass of wine or two! Just make sure you indulge in all of your senses, whatever it is that helps you feel calm and relaxed. That is what self-care and self-healing is all about, tuning into yourself, your being, accepting your flaws, feeling what it’s actually like to be you. These are all learning opportunities for you to grow and progress on your path. You can ask yourself questions like, “What part of me really needs to let go? What area of my life needs nurturing and a re-start?”
Some ways you can tap into the Taurus full moon are by...
Doing an emotional cleanse Release old emotions that no longer serve you. Write a list of anything that may be holding you back emotionally, mentally, and physically. Use this full moon to let it all go.
Surrounding yourself with your favourite comforts Take time out and enjoy receiving the simple pleasures of life. Take care of your body. Taurus is an Earth sign and this full moon is a reminder to be in touch with the physical world and the physical body. Receive a massage or nurture yourself in a bath of bubbles.
Tempering your emotions Taurus is a fixed sign, and their energy is firmly rooted, accepting, and owning every part of themselves completely, wholeheartedly, and unapologetically, seeing themselves for who they truly are. Ask yourself, “What do I need to feel secure?”
Slowing down Be present and stay in the moment. Turn off all communication with the outside world so you can get in touch with yourself on a deeper level. Bring yourself back into a place of being grounded in the here and now. Focus your intentions on what matters to you and what needs to change in order for you to feel complete.
The Taurus moon wants you to create a life in which your happiness is an inside job and you feel whole, complete, safe, and secure in yourself.
I manifest what I desire easily and joyfully I feel satisfied and confident with the decisions I make
I know the Universe is always providing for me all that I require NOVEMBER AFFIRMATIONS I take ownership of my own personal power
I am accepting of all that I am I feel confident in my inner strength and capabilities
How to Create A New You By: Priya Ali
Have you ever found yourself wanting to make a change and unable to do so no matter how hard you tried? One of the keys to creating new habits, personality traits, or experiences, is to reprogram old patterns that we have created. This programming can usually be found within our subconscious minds. We learn most of our beliefs, opinions , and how to do things, during our childhood, either directly from what was taught to us by our parents, teachers, and other influences, or from our observations of the world around us. As we grow older, we learn and develop additional patterns from repeating the same thoughts, behaviours, and actions.
Think of an action such as walking, chewing, or brushing your teeth. You likely engage in all of these actions daily. Do you need to tell yourself to lift your foot up and place it forward? Do you have to stop and think, pick up your toothbrush, stop and think, put toothpaste on, stop and think, wet the toothbrush, stop and think, open your mouth, stop and think, move the brush with your hand over your teeth? Likely not. This is because the memory of how to complete this task is stored in your subconscious mind, which is responsible for 90 to 95 percent of your total brain function, thus leaving your conscious mind with the power over 5 to 10 percent of your total brain function.
Imagine an army of 100 soldiers. 90 of them are under the regime of your subconscious mind and 10 of them are under the regime of your conscious mind. If your subconscious mind soldiers have been given an order directing them what to think or how to act, what is likely to happen when the 10 conscious mind soldiers try to fight or change that? They are outnumbered 9 to 1, and so attempting to create change like this usually is a losing battle for the conscious mind. Now, if the subconscious soldiers were instructed to stop thinking those thoughts and actions and given new thoughts and actions, the likelihood of change increases significantly.
Once we reprogram the subconscious mind with a new thought and/or behaviour and repeat it consistently, it will become the new thought or/behaviour that runs automatically without us having to think about it. This replaces the old pattern and programming. The time it takes for the new patterning to take effect varies from person to person. You’ll know it’s working when you no longer have to think about it, and it comes naturally to you. Consistency and repetition is the key to successful change.
You may find yourself reverting to the old patterns, in which case, you just refocus to the new thoughts or behaviours and keep soldiering on.
PATCHOULI By: Aria de Lima
Patchouli is a part of the family of fragrant plants that we commonly see and use for essential oils such as lavender and mint. There are three different species of Patchouli; Pogostemon Cablin, Pogostemon Hortensis, and Pogostemon Heyneanus. However, Pogostemon Cablin is used most often in essential oils.
Grown in warmer, tropical climates, Patchouli produces a warm and spicy scent, promoting a number of therapeutic benefits. Asian countries have been known to use the plant as an herbal medicine and a common remedy to reduce dandruff in the hair and dry scalp. It is known to be grounding and soothing while also promoting peace. In addition, Patchouli has been known to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and treat respiratory problems.
Patchouli, or any essential oil, can be used in various ways. Some examples include: mixing a little into a warm bath, adding a few drops to your diffuser, or even mixing in a few drops into your lotion and applying it to your skin. Before adding to your lotion or any other product that will be put directly on your skin, test a small amount on your wrist and wait a few hours to make sure you don’t have a reaction.
5 Recipes to feed you Solar Plexus Chakra Breakfast: Oatmeal with honey Grains are a great way to balance your Solar Plexus Chakra. Drizzle some delicious honey on top of your warm oatmeal for a delicious and filling breakfast.
Lunch: Egg Salad Sandwich Boil 2 or 3 eggs for about 7-9 minutes on high or until cooked fully through. Remove the shells from the eggs and cut into cubes. Mix in 2 tbs of mayonnaise and 2 tsp of mustard and add salt and pepper to taste. Place the mixture between 2 sliced of the bread of your choice and add desired toppings such as, tomatoes, lettus, spinach, ham, etc.
Snack: Fruit Smoothie Add sliced pineapple, mango and banana in to a blender. Pour in about 1/4 cup of your liquid of choice (juice, water or milk). Blend until smooth and enjoy.
Dinner: Pizza Dairy is also helpful when it comes to balancing your Solar Plexus Chakra. Try incorporating items like milk, cheese and yogurt into your diet. A nice cheesy pizza for dinner is never really a bad idea!
Dessert: Banana bread and ice cream
Preheat oven to 350°. Coat a loaf pan with nonstick spray or butter. Mix together 3 eggs, 2 mashed bananas (the more ripe the banana the sweeter it will be), 2 tbsp of vanilla extract, and ¾ cups of vegetable oil in a large bowl until smooth. In a separate bowl, Whisk together 1 ¾ cups of flour, 1 ⅕ teaspoons of baking soda, 3/4 cups of sugar and ¾ of a teaspoon of salt in a medium bowl. Add dry ingredients to banana mixture and mix until smooth. Pour batter into a greased pan and smooth top. Sprinkle chocolate chips or walnuts on top for an extra flavour. Bake for about 60–70 minutes. Leave to cool for about 20 minutes and then remove from the pan and enjoy!

In contemporary society, we like to put everything into categories, adding labels and subcategories for better understanding and organization. The reality of “us” is that we are an amalgamation of energy, physical matter and thoughts simultaneously existing in multiple dimensions.
This helps us to understand the nature of “The Divine”. It encompasses many things simultaneously, including feminine and masculine energies. With self-acceptance, one can accept the truth, that as Divine “beings”, we need the balance of both energies to survive and thrive. The circle of life involves destruction and rebuilding, light and darkness, giving and receiving. Those seeming contradictions bring us balance and wholeness in our Divine Feminine and Masculine energies. Every single process in the universe utilizes both

Establishing a daily rhythm with Ayurveda By: Lisa Brenner
Ayurveda is India’s traditional system of healing and focuses on enhancing one's quality of life, including mental, emotional, and spiritual states, as well as physical health. The simplest way of incorporating Ayurvedic practices into our lives is through our daily routine, known as Dinacharya, which means “to follow the knowledge of the day” in Sanskrit. This is a concept that looks at the cycles of nature and bases daily activities around these cycles. Following a consistent daily routine can be grounding and nourishing, bringing our mind, body, and spirit into balance.
The Ayurvedic Clock Just as our bodies and the cycles of nature are made up of different energies known as the Doshas, so are the times of day which are represented by the Ayurvedic clock. At different times of the day our energies will be more aligned with certain activities. Vata Dosha rules 2-6am and 2-6pm, Kapha Dosha 6-10am and 6-10pm, and Pitta Dosha rules 10-2pm and 10-2am. Vata energy is quick, light, and scattered, which requires focus and grounding. Kapha energy is slow and sluggish, requiring stimulation. Pitta energy is focused, sharp, and fiery, requiring cooling and soothing. As we attune ourselves to these energies we will find a natural rhythm that will help guide us and bring about a sense of ease to our day-to-day lives. There are a number of beneficial practices that you can add into your routine that will help to keep you calm, grounded, focused, and aligned with your energy fluctuations throughout the day. Waking up and going to bed at the same time each day is the best place to start. From there you can begin adding in more practices as your energy shifts. Let’s take a look at a sample daily routine, keeping in mind that it takes time to work in all of these practices! Once you are on a good schedule, you will find that these activities really don’t take up a lot of time but can make a huge difference in your energy, mood, and overall health. You may find you have more time in the morning, or the evening, and can adjust these practices to fit your current schedule. As you begin to weave Ayurveda into your daily routine, remember that building in new habits takes time. Try to add in one or two new practices and stick with them for a couple of weeks before adding in more. Taking things slow and steady, one day at a time, will set you up for success to create lasting, healthy habits that will transform your life. I’ve included directions here for two of my favourite practices, Abhyanga (self-massage) and a Pranayama (breath work) practice known as Nadi Shodhana. Give them a try and see how you feel!

Abhyanga self-massage instructions You will need: Pure sesame oil (not the darker coloured cooking oil), sunflower oil, or almond oil about a 1/4 cup per massage A container to warm oil in (a plastic squeeze bottle is best as oily hands on glass are slippery. If glass is all you have available please be extra cautious) An old towel you won’t mind getting oily
Directions: Place the container of oil in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes. Spread a towel out on the bathroom floor for you to stand on. This will prevent slipping and will catch any oil drips. Starting at the crown of the head, pour about a tablespoon of oil onto your scalp and massage with a shampooing motion. Gently massage your face, ears, and neck. Massage in a circular motion on and around the shoulders and elbows, and use an up-and-down motion on the upper arms and forearms. Continue massaging in large circles over the chest, stomach, and lower abdomen, reaching around as best you can to work the oil into your back. Moving on to the legs, be sure to use a circular motion around the knees and ankles and an up-and-down motion on the upper and lower portion of the legs. Lastly, massage your feet, top and bottom, getting in between each toe. Take a few moments to sit quietly with your eyes closed, breathing slowly and deeply, to allow the oil to penetrate further into your tissues. When you are ready, have a short, warm shower and gently pat yourself dry with a clean towel. This entire process should only take 5-10 minutes and is a wonderful way to begin winding down for bedtime.
Nadi Shodhana Alternate Nostril Breath Nadi Shodhana means ‘channel cleansing,’ and is a gentle breath practice that is very calming to the nervous system. It is helpful in reducing stress and anxiety, quieting the mind prior to meditation, or aiding in falling asleep. Using your right hand to control the flow of breath through the nostrils, position your thumb over the right nostril, the first two fingers gently pressing between the eyebrows, and the ring finger over the left nostril, letting the pinky finger hang loosely. You will be pressing gently on the bottom of each nostril, and breathing softly, making no noise. To begin, sit quietly in a comfortable position, allowing the breath to flow naturally in and out of the body. On your next inhalation, inhale deeply, then gently close off the right nostril with your thumb and exhale through the left nostril. Breathe in through the left nostril, then close off the left nostril with your ring finger, release your thumb and exhale through the right nostril. Inhale through the right nostril, close it off with your thumb, release your finger and exhale through the left nostril. Continue breathing in this pattern for a few breaths. As you get more comfortable with this practice you can work up to doing it for longer periods. On your final exhale, allow your right hand to drop to your side, close your eyes, and return to your regular breath. Sit in silence for a few moments before opening your eyes and rejoining the world. If you have questions about any of these practices please don’t hesitate to reach out. Solar Plexus Aromatherapy By: Andrea Sipcic The use of essential oils is a great way, or at least great addition, to aiding in chakra balancing. The following are a few essential oils that are specifically geared to balancing and healing the Solar Plexus chakra.
Bergamot Bergamot is a citrus essential oil that is slightly sweet and very powerful. It has many healing abilities, namely being an antiseptic, antibiotic, digestive, disinfectant, sedative, and more. For this reason, it is very popular amongst aromatherapists. From a non-physical perspective, Bergamot helps to instil happiness and confidence in oneself, as it is a natural antidepressant. It has been proven to soothe anxiety, stress, nervous tension, aggression, and grief, as well as help to release negative thoughts and emotions, such as fear, guilt, and unworthiness. Juniper Juniper is known to be a purifying, natural antiseptic oil which has been used for physical and spiritual detoxification and the increase of circulation through the kidneys and liver. This oil also helps to promote emotional balance, as it positively affects the nervous system. It’s calming scent helps to relieve stress as well. The aroma of Juniper evokes feelings of peace and love.
Lemon Lemon is a very uplifting, refreshing oil that is very well known for its cleansing and purifying effects. It’s a warm, invigorating oil that has a positive influence on the spleen and pancreas. It is also known to be good for liver and lymphatic cleansing. It is beneficial for the relief of anxiety, stress, and depression, and for the promotion of a sense of well-being, as it is calming and lightning.
To use these oils, you can apply a few drops directly onto the skin, such as wrists, temples, shoulders, or neck, although it may be too concentrated for the face. If preferred you can mix into a carrier oil also. A few other effective and popular ways to use it are in a diffuser, a salt bath, and as a room spray/deodorizer, mixing it with water

What is Yoga Nidra? By: Premadasa Gangadeen If one were to consistently follow the study and practice of the Ashtanga Yoga philosophy with complete surrender, openness, and curiosity, they may come to realize the meaning and effect of Yoga Nidra. To answer the question in the title, one might first want to reference the information that I wrote about in the premier issue of Energi Magazine as a prerequisite. You see, Yoga Nidra is less a technique and more a by-product of steady and consistent practice of yoga in the broader sense. With stronger and clearer intention, the result and therefore benefit of the practice will be greater. As you may recall, yoga is a reference to consciously achieving a balance of body, breath, mind, intellect, and spiritual awareness when accompanied by an earnest yearning for greater self-discovery, acceptance, and expansion. With constant and steady practice of yoga, the state of Yoga Nidra will eventually descend into the realm of the practitioner’s awareness and as one begins to enter this state more frequently, they will be able to remain in this state for longer periods of time, reaping the benefits as they arise. All of the touted benefits that one hears about when practicing yoga come to the practitioner 10-fold when it comes to Yoga Nidra. It’s a great way to reduce stress, improve the quality of sleep and rest, and more importantly, it is an optimal tool for re-training or setting a new and positive pattern for the body and mind for a daily routine. It has the potential to take one’s life perspective from a grainy black and white photo to a full colour and full resolution image in complete splendour. No detail is missed and one is simply in a state of truth, consciousness, and bliss, otherwise known as Satchidananda in Sanskrit. Feedback from students have shown a variety of results ranging from reduced insomnia, deeper and more efficient rest, bringing one’s appetite back into balance, reduced anxiety, and greater clarity of mind, focus, and intention. Students have recounted feeling periods of accelerated healing and wellness from a physical ailment or injury, a lightness within one’s emotional state, and a greater overall optimism for daily activities. Yoga nidra has the ability to improve one’s relationship with themselves and others. My experience with this practice has an unbounded value as it produces the effect of wholeness unto the practitioner. In an attempt to explain what is happening when one is in the state of Yoga Nidra, all I can say is that one can become aware on the most acute level of the body, mind, and surroundings without having to react in terms of attraction toward something or aversion away from something else. One is able to simply see things as they are while remaining in a state of equanimity amidst the feeling that all is happening according to a greater plan as it were. Many years ago while on retreat at Swami Veda Bharati’s ashram in Hrishikesh, India, I was most fortunate that my timing lined up with a World Yoga Nidra conference. It was there, that many scientists who were also meditators and various people from all walks of life and spiritual traditions, all were present to delve into a deeper understanding of what actually occurs when in a state of Yoga Nidra - one need not be yogi or Hindu to qualify to practice it.
There was a steady and exciting schedule of practice, reflection, and discussion over the course of a week and at some point we were all able to have our brain waves and bodily rhythms analyzed via various medical and scientific instruments to record what was happening physiologically as the practitioner transitioned from day to day consciousness to a deeper and more truer version of themselves. What stands out in the findings is that though the body rhythms and brain activity were relatively close to a flatline or inactive due to deep relaxation and stillness, the practitioner was able to recall everything that was happening around them and also from deep within, despite registering almost no activity physiologically. A popular sentiment speaks to how time had also lost all meaning. A common sentiment shared amongst the participants was a great feeling of bliss, abundance, acceptance, deep rest, and total peace. When one factors in the idea that this state is available to all as it comes from within, then the greater effects begin to show themselves. From a practical perspective, what happens when one practices Yoga Nidra is that they lay on their back while supported behind their knees, low back, and neck with blankets as they are guided through a meditation focusing on body, and then breath. This is followed by some visualization techniques.
An ideal setting would be to first practice some yoga postures for any duration, followed by yogic breathing techniques, and then going into a meditation practice. Yoga nidra would be a natural transition arising from meditation. The practice itself could last anywhere from 20 minutes and up, depending on the conditions of the practitioner. There are many schools of yoga which offer Yoga Nidra. Numerous trainings are abound, and there are multiple resources available, both in print and online To say that Yoga Nidra is simply a yogic sleep technique is not exactly so, as no sleep is actually taking place, rather it is more like heightened awareness from a place of deep stillness. To say that Yoga Nidra is a path to the doorway of enlightenment would be creating an expectation of something which would only cater to the mind. I’d say it would be best for one to consider trying it for themselves without any preconceptions in order to set oneself up for a real experience to take place in the present. However you decide to proceed, the best advice that I may offer is to simply let go and be as you are. TAT TVAM ASI Premadasa hosts a weekly Yoga Nidra class online Monday evenings from 9 - 10:15 pm EST. For more info contact: premadasa@playuyoga.com
4 Meridians connected to the Solar Plexus By: Tanya Mouland
A balanced brain-body-heart system is a unified system. This balance is physical, emotional, mental, and cognitive (integrated brain). We also have amazing energetic systems – meridians and chakras - to support our whole being.
When the energetic systems are balanced, we function efficiently, with our whole being, in the present moment. We act. We feel. We connect. We grow. We thrive. When a point within the energetic system is unbalanced, that is to say, either over-energized (excess) or under-energized (deficient), we become stuck.
In the Brain Gym® programme (Educational Kinesthetics), we are introduced to meridians in the “In-Depth: The 7 Dimensions of Intelligence” course. Within the Motivation Dimension, we learn basic information about the 5 Elements Theory and the over-and under-energy of the meridians. We look at the meridians from the perspective of Affirmative Statements; words related to the essence of the meridians. It is usually the opposite of the statement where the individual is stuck, the “conscious expression of an unconscious block.”
In the Brain Gym programme (Edu-K), one of the tools used to balance meridian is the movement of meridian massage. This involves tracing the meridian on the body – slightly above the body, or directly on the skin. Whether we balance our chakras or our meridians, noticing when the energy systems need support and attention, movement – whole body, stimulating specific points on the body, vibration of the words we use - is a powerful method to re-establishing balance in the energy flow in the brain-body-heart unified system.
The 4 meridians commonly connected to the solar plexus are stomach and spleen (earth), and liver and gallbladder (wood). Let’s take a look at the 4 meridians that are related to the solar plexus…and the amazing similarities!

EXPLORING SUBLIMINAL MEDITATION BY: ANDREA SIPCIC
While most people are familiar with the general idea of meditation, subliminal meditations may be newer to some. You may have heard of songs and different types of advertisements containing subliminal messages. These are auditory or visual messages and stimuli that are not perceived by the conscious mind, bypassing it and going directly to the subconscious mind for processing. With continued repetition, this can have quite a strong effect on us, what we think, believe, say, how we act, and even what we consume and like. The same idea applies to subliminal meditations, except these are geared in a different direction, with specific goals in mind. These typically consist of music, usually of a specific healing hertz, making the music the only thing the conscious mind can hear. Essentially, the messages that are being spoken are there, but not audible to us consciously, so it may feel like nothing is really happening.
Much like the subliminal messages, continued repetition of subliminal meditation can have very powerful effects when it comes to changing some of the embedded beliefs and thought patterns we have acquired throughout our lives, that we may not find to be so favourable to us. There are many subliminal meditations available on several different topics, such as abundance and prosperity, self love and relationships, overcoming trauma and addictions, happiness, peace, and eliminating or diminishing anxiety and depression. These meditations can be listened to at any time, but the most effective has been known to be while sleeping. This is because it is during sleep that we are in the state of least resistance and most open to receiving. Developmental Biologist, Dr. Bruce Lipton, speaks highly of the profound
effects of consistently listening to repetitive messages specifically while you sleep, to reprogram the subconscious mind. He explains in much detail how the subconscious mind works and the difference between the conscious and subconscious mind. Below are just a few examples of the many subliminal meditations available on some of the bigger topics we may be looking to target/change in our lives: Be Wealthy - 8 Hour Subliminals for Money & Abundance with Rain https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=2cETyb9N_Sc Boost Your Happiness Manifest Joy - Binaural Beats & Isochronic Tones (With Subliminal Messages) https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=tmnmJWhS0Fo Self-Love & Self-Esteem Night Stream | Subliminal Affirmations | Binaural Beat Meditation Music https://www.youtube.com /watch?v=xGHZ9FAaFQ&t=153s

The mindset is, “maybe if I work harder, I will be worthy and of more value”. The Guides invite you to rethink this mindset and look for the value that already exists in you. Your thoughts may turn to employment or career when you hear the term “workaholic,” but this also refers to any kind of work, including spiritual work, mental work, healing work, even housework.
