Clear it up BY: ANDREA SIPCIC
It has become more and more apparent to many that cleaning and clearing our home does not only consist of physically cleaning it. Clearing the energy of our space is just as, if not more important than physically organizing and cleaning it. Keeping our space’s energy cleared does not have to be a long, tedious chore though. When doing a deep clear, people often use sage. However, the following suggestions work really well for general upkeep.
Burn incense - Be sure to choose high quality incense that you enjoy. There are many great local suppliers as well as larger companies that also have incense specific to clearing your home. (Although any high quality incense will do). Open your windows - Even when it’s colder outside, opening your windows for even just five to ten minutes is beneficial, allowing the flow of the fresh air in to cleanse the air and energy inside. Have plants Make a room spray or diffuse essential oils - cleansing oils such as lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus, lavender and sandalwood are great options to use to make a room spray or to diffuse in a diffuser. Crystals - These are always a great option to have for cleansing and elevating the energy in your space. Keep in mind they require regular clearing. This can be done by regularly burning incense near them in addition to gently moving your crystal over incense (or fire) smoke. The previous suggestions for clearing your space are also beneficial for the cleansing of crystals, as well as this previous issue crystal article: https://energimagazine.love/2020/1 0/29/clearing-your-crystals/

APRIL READING WITH INTUITIVE GODDESS PRIYA The card for the month of April is the Gaia card. The message from the Guides is that we are infinitely connected to one another, the way we are connected to our Great Mother, Gaia, also known as Mother Earth. For some of you, the message is to take time during the month of April to get connected to the earth and all things in nature. Connecting with the earth can help you to feel grounded and can increase your abilities to bring your ideas into your physical reality. For some of you, the message is to see yourself as one with others. Offer them the same compassion and empathy that you would wish for yourself. Being open to seeing situations from the point of view of others will benefit you in the long run and allow others to feel that you are fair and balanced. For others, the message is to yourself as one with the Universe and all its components. The Guides wish to reassure you that you are an important part of Divine Intelligence. They have noticed you feeling separate and as though good things happen or ease comes to others but not you. By claiming your place in the Universe, you will activate your receptive mode, allowing the Universe to flow energies your way. This is a month full of “birthing” energies, which will allow you to birth new relationships, experiences and opportunities. The Guides encourage you to take full advantage of these energies. The Power of
Focus By: Andrea Sipcic
When it comes to clearing and cleansing, the immense importance of the mind can often be overlooked over our body, home, relationships, etc. However, there has definitely been a lot more emphasis on the importance and value of meditation, a wonderful tool for the practice of mind clearing, calmness and intended focus. What happens after our 15 minute meditation and we start our busy days? What do we do when we feel like we can hardly keep up, with 37 things on our to-do list, many of which we merit as being worry-worthy, not to mention tomorrow’s list already creeping up? As ideal as it would be, it’s not always possible to stop and meditate 17 times a day. So how do we clear our mind so we can feel more relaxed and adept at navigating through our days and tasks? Here is where we talk about the power of focus. The mind can only have one thought at a time. This means we can only truly focus on one thing at a time. It also means, while many pride themselves on being great “multi taskers,” this may be something to re-consider as being a sought after, advantageous attribute. This is a prime example of how the mind (and body) get bombarded, overwhelmed and stressed out. When we multitask, we are not fully giving our attention, energy and focus to any one thing, but instead, dividing it into all the different tasks and thoughts we are trying to focus on at once. Add in any negative, stressful thoughts and we have a recipe for mind chaos in much need of some clearing.
To avoid or minimize this, we want to practice focus; mental focus, where we choose one thought at a time and focus on one thing at a time, giving our undivided attention to it. This involves slowing down our thoughts and eliminating ‘mind racing’ and even slowing down our body so we can re-train ourselves to be and operate from a steadier pace. If you find yourself wandering at all, reset and return to the subject at hand. Do this for any task or situation you are handling and with time and consistency, it will get easier. By focusing on only one thing at a time, we automatically wean out all other thoughts, worries and the other 36 things on our to-do list, ultimately providing clarity. For those of us who find this challenging at all and may be used to a very busy mind, practice and consistency is required. I am very much part of this group of people and know well, through my own inconsistencies, the importance of consistent practice and commitment. It may seem slowgoing at first, but time and patience with yourself is most required. Remind yourself that you choose your thoughts, so you can choose clarity or you can choose chaos.

Getting into the Spring Cleaning Spirit By: Anja Lavigne We are waving goodbye to the cold, still slumber of winter, once again, as we begin to welcome the feminine energy of fertility, re-birth and renewal. Ahhhh the Spring Equinox is here to greet us with its warm, longer and brighter days. The opportunity arises to embrace the joy in birds chirping or tulips pushing themselves through the ground as the new season greets us at our doorstep. The Spring Equinox, also known as 'Ostara' in Pagan tradition, is arriving in the Northern Hemisphere. This date marks the start of the Spring season, representing the start of a new year in some cultures and astrology. On a spiritual level, it is a new time of growth mirrored in Mother Nature as you see the breath of life again as she sprouts and blossoms. Just before the Equinox, we will move into the full moon in Virgo on March 18th. Now is the time to think about how you can transform your home and release what no longer is needed for the coming months ahead. Now is the time to focus.
Spring Cleaning Cleaning carries the energy of rebirth and renewal. It is a common practice for a pregnant woman to begin what is called “nesting” just before the birth of her child. The definition of nesting is a burst of energy a woman gets in the last few weeks of pregnancy that inspires them to clean and organize the house in preparation for the baby's arrival. This is an instinctual drive that is prepping for the birth of something and spring cleaning mirrors this in preparation for the birth of spring. To welcome this refreshing and nourishing energy of a new season, we can cleanse our spaces to bring balance and make room for new beginnings! Getting to the Core with Dust Bunnies Your spring cleaning is the time to sweep and clear away winter’s accumulations of dust and grit. Dust is a mixture of dead skin cells, hair, clothing fibers, bacteria, dust mites, dead bugs and bits dead of bugs, soil particles, pollen and microscopic specks of plastic. This dust has accumulated from the
Refresh Your Curb Appeal Our porches, entrances and balconies can take a real beating during the long winter months. Begin with a good sweep, then wash down the front and back of all doors. A good clean out of your winter urn is a must. Stand on the sidewalk facing the front of your walkway and porch, or balcony and take a close look. With a willingness and open mind, notice what needs to be repaired, replaced or renewed. Where are the dings in the paint? Address what needs touch up. Is this the year for a fresh coat of paint anywhere? Your front, side or back entrance are where you first lay your eyes on your space when you come home. Think about how you want to feel when you walk up and enter your home. Spring is a great chance to refresh. Consider adding a new welcome mat. The Eyes of your Home Glistening windows will make your house more aesthetically pleasing, removing grit and grime that builds from snow and sleet. When you clean your windows and window sills, you remove negative energy. Just the simple task of cleaning and opening up the windows to let fresh air in cleanses your home in a matter of minutes. Opening windows also removes toxic fumes and bad smells. Disinfecting surfaces also rids your space of negative energy. Window cleaning is very important because it helps to remove contaminants and pollutants that have stuck on the glass and have prevented natural light from penetrating inside. Maybe make this your annual inside and outside window clean either by doing it yourself or hiring a
professional. You will have brightened up and brought in a clearer vision. Spring Summer in, Fall Winter out The garage or your home’s storage space is an extension to our home. We may think that it just houses our seasonal tools, toys and equipment, but it matters. With spring in the air, change out these items by bringing forward your gardening tools, lawnmower and bicycles, making them more accessible. With these in the forefront, it’s time to sort through the winter tools and toys and put them away. Shovels, salt containers, toboggans and anything winter/fall moves to the back of your storage. As you are doing the switch over, take some time to see if anything needs repair or a cleaning. Anything that needs repair, attention or throwing out should be noted and ideally done as soon as possible. Washing down your garage, balcony or storage space cleans out dirt and grime and will bring in a feeling of freshness.
Switch it out Switching your seasonal clothes can be a fun and easy task or a long and daunting one; the choice of how it goes is about your mindset. Here are some quick tips to help with a successful switch out.
01.
Schedule a time and make a date with yourself, allowing 2-4 hours.
02.
Collect your spring or summer clothes.
03.
04.
05.
Take stock of your fall/winter clothes before packing them away. Be honest with yourself when you ask, “Do I love this piece of clothing? Did I wear this all season? Do I still want it?" Why would you want to clog up valuable real estate? As well, ask yourself, "Is there anything that needs to be repaired?" Sweep, dust and clean out your closet and drawers before placing in your spring/summer clothes. This will ensure you are not inviting breeding ground for clothes moths. When you bring in your spring/summer clothes, ask yourself, “Am I greeted with appeal? Does this fit the way I want it to? Does anything need repairs? Will I wear this?" Embrace each new season as it brings in a new perspective, new gifts, new inspirations and possibility. Happy Spring!

5 COPING SKILLS FOR WHEN LIFE GETS STRESSFUL By: Chris Lee Stress has often been dubbed “the silent killer.” Nearly any illness or disease is worsened by high stress. The way that stress sneaks upon us is the reason it’s referred to as “silent.” As stress takes hold of the mind, thoughts become more despondent. As stress takes hold of the body, muscles tense, arteries narrow and heart rate increases. The central nervous system sends your body into survival mode, also known as “fight or flight.” Over time, living in survival mode wears us down and even affects the immune system. Here are five strategies to help you cope when life gets stressful. Stay Grounded To stay grounded is to remain in touch with yourself and your values regardless of what is going on around you. Have you ever reacted to someone in haste or out of anger and later regretted your handling of the situation? Being grounded can allow you to respond to challenges rather than react. One of the easiest ways to stay grounded is to meditate on a statement or affirmation that reminds you of either what you desire or who you want to be. For example, if you’re struggling with feeling upset by past events or interactions, you could say: “I release the need to dwell on bad feelings.” This will definitely take practice. You’ll likely go through three phases: 1) You’ll feel like this is not working. 2) You’ll start to believe but will have debates in your head. 3) The affirmation will take hold and will begin to have a positive influence on your thoughts and attitude.
Avoid “All or Nothing” Thinking
Avoid These Hidden Stressors
All or nothing thinking is a distorted thinking pattern where someone views the likely possibilities of a situation only as either the best case scenario or the worst case scenario. Example: “If I bomb this presentation, my boss will probably fire me.” As we know, there are many different possible outcomes to most of life’s situations.
Life is full of surprises; there’s plenty that happens that we have no control over. Often there are things that contribute to our stress levels that we do have control over but may not realize it. For example, simple things like too much caffeine, the music we choose to listen to, eating junk food, abusing drugs or alcohol, can be silent contributors to our stress.
Being present and being mindful are effective ways to combat all or nothing thoughts Become aware of the thoughts, then use positive self-talk to work your way into a better frame of mind. A better feeling thought would sound like this: “I’ve prepared well for this presentation and I will do my very best no matter what.” This statement releases the need to presuppose the worst outcome.
Exercise Whether it’s a ten minute walk around the block or a 45-minute exercise class, it’s very important to move your body. On a physical level, exercise enhances your mood and reduces cortisol (the stress hormone). On a spiritual level, exercise moves energy around in your energy field. This frees up your mind, body and spirit to bring you solutions to your trouble, but also to put you in a better position to cope with life’s challenges. Talk to a Friend A conversation with a close friend can go a long way towards reducing stress. Good advice, a pep talk or even just a fresh perspective on your situation can help alleviate stress. I schedule weekly or bi-weekly checkins with a few friends and I always leave the call feeling better than when it started. Managing stress takes intentional effort and practice, but the rewards are definitely worth the effort!
DOES YOUR MIND NEED DECLUTTERING? BY: PRIYA ALI
While our subconscious minds can process upwards of 11 million bits or pieces of information per second, our conscious minds can only process 40 to 50 bits of information per second. Just because we can do something, doesn’t mean it’s healthy or ideal for us. Just this evening, my husband and I were cleaning out our pantry and disposing of stale snacks and near empty packages. Once everything was cleared out, he turned to me and said, “Now we have all this space, I don’t know what to fill it with,” to which I replied, “Nothing. It’s ok to have space.” Similarly, it’s ok to lighten up your mind and have some free space. There are a few ways to do this:
Use Less Words Many people today feel compelled to overshare or use too many unnecessary words when communicating. Practice being more concise with your conversations. When you use less words to communicate, you use less energy from your mind. Some people use extra words or details in order to prolong a conversation or because they enjoy being listened to. Allowing a natural flow in conversation or communication creates energetic space for others to receive what you are saying. Let Go of Thoughts that Don’t Serve You Whether it's your own negative self talk, or judgmental thoughts towards others, clearing out these lower frequency thoughts will help you to declutter your mind. Take stock of your thoughts for a few days and see what thoughts don’t serve you. Make a conscious effort to let them go. Preparing a list of positive thoughts that elevate your mood and vibration can be helpful. Use these uplifting thoughts to replace negative ones, the same way you would throw away something old and broken from your home and replace it with something new. Practice Quieting Your Mind Learning to quiet your mind can be an effective way to help you declutter. When we attempt to quiet our minds, oftentimes we actually realize what thoughts we are having and how often we are having them. Quieting your mind can be likened to cleaning your home; it gives you a chance to reset with a clean slate. In today’s world we are being bombarded with information which can stimulate our thoughts both knowingly and unknowingly. Just like our homes, when things slowly pile up it doesn’t take long for clutter to develop. Take the time to do regular daily maintenance to stay on top of things and keep your mind organized and clear.
Spring Cleansing Breath By: Premadasa Gangadeen As we in the northern hemisphere turn toward the spring, new beginnings, fresh ideas and the clearing of our space both internally and externally help to set the foundation for positive transformation with renewed vigour. The practice of Yoga can also be viewed through this cyclical lens, whether in terms of developing a practice, going deeper into a pose, or simply studying the effects of Yoga overall. For success to be measured, first we must start with our breath or breathing, the most fundamental action in our lives and the vehicle for greater expression, expansion and extension into further experiences. The rate of our breathing has a direct relationship to the fluctuations of our mind, brain, nervous systems and many other functions of the body. Perhaps when in an excited state, one can note the shortness of breath, perceived irrational thinking and the body preparing for fight/flight/freeze as a result. Conversely, slow, deep and full breaths can cultivate the opposite to the above, leading to greater states of ease, pleasantness, mindfulness and meditation. From a yogic perspective, one practices pranayama (the extension of pranic life force within the body) to carry forward the benefits from the observance of the yamas, niyamas and asana toward the latter stages of sensory withdrawal, concentration, meditation and ultimately Self-Realization.
There are a multitude of pranayama practices which all yield differing results for different purposes. Below I’ve attached some reference suggestions based on personal experience. For the purpose of this article, I’ll include some accessible pranayama practice for personal use. However, when it comes to intermediate/advanced pranayama practice, I highly advise that the reader seek person-toperson instruction with one who is well-versed and experienced in the practice as well as teaching it out of caution for one’s personal health. Without further delay, I present some springcleansing breath practice to try. In all cases, it is best to set the conditions of your space as follows:
Practice at the same time of day in the same location once or twice daily Ensure that your space is tidy and well-ventilated Effective sleep, nutrition and exercise prior to pranayama will yield optimal effects Sit straight on a comfortable seat 1. Equal Ratio Breath The inhalations and exhalations are equivalent in terms of timing ie. 5 seconds to breath in and 5 seconds to breath out Produces a balance in the mind 2. Unequal Ratio Breath The inhalations and exhalations are not equivalent in terms of timing ie. ratio of 1:2 like 5 seconds in and 10 seconds out Produces a calm nervous system, setting the stage for meditation Practice the Equal Ratio Breath technique for a week before moving on to this one 3. Viloma Breath The inhalations and exhalations are interrupted briefly and separated by brief rests Inhale fully, then exhale in brief spurts or pulses, pushing the exhalation out Conversely, inhale in brief spurts or pulses then exhale fully Practice the exhalation and inhalation techniques above on separate days and be gentle with the practice Promotes cooling and lessening of anxiety
Become established in technique #1 before moving on to #2 and then #3. Take your time within each technique and journal immediately at the end of your practice to observe any effects. Viloma breath is meant to be performed gently at first for the novice, so go easy. May the above techniques serve you as a conduit toward better health and wellness!
