Greetings readers! When the enormity of the COVID19, lead to the complete shutdown in Hyderabad we started planning to do our jobs from home. If it weren’t for technology, this event would be impossible. We had to learn to adapt ourselves to these unforeseen circumstances, after which it was decided that this issue will be an online one, due to the closure of the printing press because of the shutdown in the city. In these testing times, it is very easy to feel overwhelmed and confused when there is so much information to process as things are changing so fast. We don’t want to add fuel to fire. We wanted to provide well-researched content on the virus, we spoke to some of the Medical industries best to help understand the nature and precautionary measures with regards COVID 19. As we stay at home flattening the curve, we are bound to get bored in isolation, we at team Tulip have compiled some fun ways to pass your time, tips on how to repurpose your old clothes, easy recipes that can be easily made at home, Travel the world from home and many more. Hope our edition this time is both informative and fun, Thank you for all the support. Keep reading and Stay home and healthy.

Tulip A compilation of all things we are obsessing over this month
Contagion
Soon after her return from a business trip to Hong Kong, Beth Emhoff dies from what is a flu or some other type of infection. Her young son dies later the same day. Her husband Mitch however seems immune. Thus begins the spread of a deadly infection. For doctors and administrators at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, several days pass before anyone realizes the extent or gravity of this new infection. They must first identify the type of virus in question and then find a means of combating it, a process that will likely take several months. As the contagion spreads to millions of people worldwide, societal order begins to break down as people panic. Watch on: Netflix, Amazon Prime

What is a typical day like in your life? Everyday is new and exciting because of the people I come across at the Chalet. Although, we do have a routine set of meetings with everyone that’s on the property, to understand what we can do to help each other and better our work overall. I also ensure to squeeze in some time for my workout! What does it take to be successful in the field you excel in? I’m not entirely sure about “successful”, we’ve not reached there yet. Everyday is a learning for us, and I think it’s important to go in with an open mind to accepting, learning, and adapting - where and when required. How did The Chalet happen? The Chalet has been a concept I’ve dwelled upon for years but never had the exposure, opportunity or courage to put it together. My previous job helped me understand where my grounding lies and I decide to take that plunge. How to u manage work and personal life? I go with the flow - depending upon what requires my attention more at that time, I focus there. There’s no hard and fast rule. I have extremely understanding people at work and at home! I’m grateful for that. Tell us something about The Chalet? The Chalet is an open cultural space, where we work together on building a community that has a common belief - art, theater, culture, sustainable living are our core values. We promote these aspects through our retail space, workshops and events. I love my work, I think I’m majorly defined by my work and I cant go over
a day without being at work or working through emails or calls! It’s very hard for me to not speak to everyone at work, even if it means I have to call and say Hi! :) Where do u see yourself in the next 5 years? I see myself building and working on community spaces - bringing people together on a larger scale 5 years from now. What was the proudest moment in ur career so far? Again, I feel like I’ve only just started my career. I’m taking baby steps. But I would say my proudest moment was when we had a participant travel from Kareemnagar specifically only to attend one of our zero waste talks in collaboration with bare necessities.
Rapid Fire Three things you don’t leave home without? My phone, my bag, my bracelets. Next holiday destination? If all goes well - somewhere in Italy, hopefully. Most recent fashion purchase? I’m not a big shopper - but some make up from rubyS Are you a morning or night person? Morning person Biggest addiction Instagram One habit you’d like to break? Instagram Describe yourself in 1 word? How to make new clothes from old ones
There is a lot of talk at the moment of ‘Fast Fashion’. And how damaging our constant demand for new clothes is on the environment. I personally don’t buy a lot of new clothes for myself these days. But maybe it is time to look to new ways of up-cycling your existing wardrobe into new pieces. To make new clothes from old. - By Peram Srija Reddy
POLO TEE TO SLOUCHY TEE
This was a polo. This refashion to slouchy half-sleeve tee turned out quite a bit better than the original polo. Step one: Cut off the collar. Set it aside to use later. Try the shirt on backward (buttons in the back) and mark the new neck hole with pins. Then cut out the neck hole. Since we cut the collar off, go back with a seam ripper and remove the rest of the collar bits. Step two: Go back to the collar piece and open it up, tearing off the interfacing if there is any. Salvage as long of a strip as possible and iron it flat. Now fold it in half, wrong sides together, and press it flat. This will be the “ribbing” for your neckline. If you can’t get a long enough piece, just use a few pieces and sew them together.
Step three: Attach the ribbing to the neckline with a straight stitch. The length of my ribbing was about 2 inches shorter than the neck hole, so I pinned it evenly and then pulled the ribbing in between pins as I sewed. This achieved a nice tight neckline. If your ribbing is the same length and isn’t pulled tight when sewn, the neckline will be wavy and loose. Press the neckline flat and then sew around the neckline with a wide straight stitch just below the ribbing. Fold the raw ends of the ribbing down at an angle and pin, sewing over them to secure them in place as you sew that seam. Step four: Try the shirt on and determine how much you want to take in on the sleeves and the sides. Then lay the shirt flat on the ground and pin in place. Then sew from the sleeve hem to the shirt hem with a straight stitch. Trim the seam allowance and serge or zigzag your raw edge (optional since knits don’t fray). Press all your seams and you’re done!

XL SIZE TEE TO KID’S JERSEY SHORTS
| FASHION
These little jersey shorts are an easy sew. Add some stripes with a bleach pen and you have some seriously cute little lounge shorts. Your little guy probably needs some tooespecially if it’s hot. Fold your ‘template shorts’ in half. Line up the outside edge of the shorts along the edge of the t-shirt (and the hem of the shorts at the bottom of the shirt). Trace with a fabric pen (stretch out the elastic waist before tracing). Cut around the traced line, leaving a half inch perimeter on the side and at least an inch on the top edge. Pin and sew along the inside edge of each leg. Pull apart and pin together the crotch edges (make sure you line up the centre line exactly). Sew (make sure your right sides are pinned facing each other). With the shorts still inside out, fold over the top edge, pin in place and sew in place. Snip two little holes in the centre of the drawstring casing. Pull the drawstring through with a safety pin (knot each ends so that it doesn’t pull back through). If you want to add bleached stripes, insert cardboard rectangles into each leg. Then, draw evenly spaced lines with a fabric pen onto the short. Use the bleach pen to trace the lines you drew. Then draw lines in between your already-drawn lines with the bleach pen. Let your side set for at least half an hour. Once the bleach is dry, flip over the shorts and repeat. Wash and dry your shorts and you’re done! The perfect solution to really hot summer and a drawer full of pants.
PJ’S INTO CIRCLE SCARF
Take your man’s tired out plaid PJs, and fashion yourself a circle scarf! You can make yourself a circle scarf in about an hour, here’s how: First, take the PJ pants, and cut up the inseam. Open up the pant leg and cut the leg off at the top of the inseam. Do this for both legs. Both legs should be of equal size. Lay the two legs on top of each other, wrong-side out (the outer seams from the original pants should be facing out). Pin the bottom end together. Sew the bottom. Your fabric will now be twice as long. Now, fold your fabric long ways, seams still wrong-side out, pin then sew. Once the long side is sewn shut, turn the fabric right-side out, then fold in half so the two ends are facing each other. Fold the edge of the left side inside itself, about a 1/4 inch, and pin. Then tuck the right side inside the left, and sew shut. The purpose of folding in the left side, before tucking the right side, is to give you a clean seam once you sew the scarf shut. This infinity scarf was sewn like a tube. You can make infinity scarves, or circle scarves, out of jersey, which don’t necessarily require sewing the ends together. Jersey material typically rolls in on itself when washed, which hides the raw edges.

TRANSFORM A TOP INTO A KIMONO @MEGHA YADAV It’s a no sew method. All you need are scissors, fabric glue and a top of your choice. You can use the same method for making a long coat out of kurta as well. So, basically you just need to lay down your top flat. Keep something such as cardboard between the layers. Then, cut the top layers right in the middle. Then, flip a bit of the corners of the cut, use the fabric glue at the corner to stick. Make sure there are no extra threads coming out. Do the same on the other end of the cut. Let the glue dry under the fan. Then, your Kimono is ready.
T-SHIRT INTO TURBAN HEADBAND @SAMIKSHA DUGAR This just gonna take less than 10 minutes and it consists of two basic and simple steps. Take a plain t-shirt (preferably white), then from bottom measure 6-7 inch and cut it. Then take that circle piece and twist it twice. Then your Turban Headband is ready.

MAXI SKIRT INTO BELL SLEEVE DRESS @ARPANA
Take your skirt, Remove the elastic and also remove the stitches on the side. Turn the skirt inside out and lay it flat on the ground. Now, fold the fabric into half and place your old dress such that the folded edges go inside, for marking the measurements. Leave approximately 6-7 inch (your sleeve size) at the bottom of the fabric. Also cut out the lining cloth in similar way. Now place the fabric and lining together and cut the neckline for both front and back respectively. Now, stitch the cloth and lining together, make sure lining is on the wrong side of the cloth. Stitch the front and back pieces together, such that the right side of two clothes are facing each other. Now, hem the bottom and neckline. Now, take one part of the left over 6 inch fabric and cut into half to make the sleeve. Use your old dress sleeve to trace the measurement as cut accordingly. And stitch the sleeves to the dress. For the bell part of the sleeve, take the other part of 6 inch fabric and fold into half such that good sides are facing each other. Then, stitch at the side and also give a simple straight stitch at the top. Make sure that it is the longest straight stitch of your machine, so that it is easier to pull to make frills for the bell part. Now, pull the thread to make frills and stitch it together with the sleeve. That’s it, you dress is ready!
CONVERT OLD SHIRT INTO CUTE TOP @SHRUTI KUSHU
For this transformation, you just need your old shirt, scissors, elastic and of course sewing machine. So basically, first mark our neck measurements and cut out the collar part. Cut the selves or leave then as they are, that’s up to you. Then, take elastic and stitch the selves and neck with it. Here we go, the top is ready.
Here are few less time taking and easy refashion. •
Trim last year’s shorts with lace (or layers of lace).
•
Cut up an old maxi skirt to make a colourful sundress.
•
Paint fabric dyes onto an old dress to make it colourful.
•
Cut a straight line up the back of an old shirt or sweater, and then attach Velcro for a trendy open back.
•
Hot glue a string of sequins to a crop top to spell out a word.

No bake Chocolate cake @101cookbooks
Ingredients Butter, to grease pan 225 g 70% chocolate, well chopped 225 g heavy cream, cashew cream, or full-fat coconut milk 1/2 teaspoon allspice (optional) 2 teaspoons finely ground espresso (optional) 1/4 teaspoon fine grain salt Cocoa powder, to serve Optional other toppings: rose petals, cacao nibs Instructions Prepare your Pan Lightly butter a 6-inch / 15cm spring form pan or equivalent. I typically use small loaf pans which are less common, but many small pans will work here (see main entry). Line with parchment paper and set aside. Make the Cake Barely melt the chocolate in a double boiler over gentle heat. In a separate medium pan heat the cream over gentle heat. Stir in the allspice and the espresso, if using. When the cream is very warm / hot to the touch, remove from heat and stir in the salt. Pour the chocolate into the cream, and very slowly and steadily stir until everything comes together smoothly. Make sure the components aren’t at all separate. Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until chilled throughout, a few hours, or overnight. Serve the Cake When ready to serve, remove from the pan, let set at room temperature for ten minutes or so, dust with a bit of cocoa powder, sprinkle with any other toppings you like, and slice. Alternately, you can slice and serve from the pan. 32 APRIL, 2020 TULIP

Papdi Chaat @thespruceeats
Ingredients For the Papdi Dough 1 cup all-purpose flour 4 tablespoons ghee 1 teaspoon onion seeds 1 tsp Kosher salt Water Vegetable oil, canola, or sunflower oil, to deep fry For the Toppings 5 large potatoes 1 15 oz can chickpeas, drained and rinsed Kosher salt, to taste For Assembly and Serving 2 cups fresh yogurt, whisked until smooth 2 red onions, finely chopped 2 large tomatoes, finely chopped 1 cup tamarind chutney 1 cup mint-coriander chutney 2 cups fine sev or gram flour 2 teaspoons red chili powder 2 tablespoons cumin seeds, gently roasted and ground 3 teaspoons powdered black rock salt Garnish 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped Instructions Make the Papdi Dough Gather the dough ingredients. Mix the flour, ghee, onion seeds, and salt. Add water, a spoonful at a time, and knead to get a firm, smooth dough. Cover dough with a damp cloth, and allow it to rest for 20 minutes. After
the dough has rested, divide it into equalsized balls. Roll the dough balls between your palms until smooth. Lightly flour a clean rolling surface and press one ball flat. Roll the dough balls out into a 1/4-inch thick circle using a rolling pin. Use the circular cookie cutter to cut smaller circles out on the large circle. Remove extra dough from sides of smaller circles. Keep them on a lightly floured tray or plate for later frying (they will become the papdis). Repeat until all the dough is used up. Heat oil for deep frying in a deep pan on a medium flame. When it is hot, add the papdis a few at a time, and fry till they are crisp and pale golden. Drain and keep the cooked dough on paper towels. Repeat until all papdis are made. They can be stored for a few weeks if kept in an airtight container. Prepare the Toppings Gather the ingredients. Wash, peel, and dice
the potatoes. In a medium-sized pot, add the potatoes and enough water to just cover the potatoes. Boil until fork tender. Drain and set aside. Place drained chickpeas into a small bowl. Using a fork or a masher, mash the chickpeas together with a dash of salt to a coarse texture. Assemble and Serve To serve, set up all ingredients—papdis, toppings, and chutneys—within easy reach. Dip 5 to 6 papdis per person into the yogurt. Then arrange on a plate. Put a little potato, chickpeas, onion, and tomato on each Papdi. When all are done in this way, drizzle a teaspoonful each of tamarind chutney and mint-coriander chutney on each papdi. Sprinkle a handful of sev all over the papdis on the plate. Then sprinkle red chili powder, cumin powder, black rock salt, and garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve immediately. TULIP - APRIL, 2020 33

and you can make a figure 8 while holding the spatula up. Transfer the macaron batter into a piping bag fitted with a round tip.Place 4 dots of the batter in each corner of a rimmed baking sheet, and place a piece of parchment paper over it, using the batter to help adhere the parchment to the baking sheet. Pipe the macarons onto the parchment paper in 1½-inch (3-cm) circles, spacing at least 1-inch (2-cm) apart. Tap the baking sheet on a flat surface 5 times to release any air bubbles. Let the macarons sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to 1 hour, until dry to the touch. Preheat the oven to 300˚F (150˚C). Bake the macarons for 17 minutes, until the feet are well-risen and the macarons don’t stick to the parchment paper. Transfer the macarons to a wire rack to cool completely before filling. Make the buttercream: In a large bowl, add the butter and beat with a mixer for 1 minute until light and fluffy. Sift in the powdered sugar and beat until fully incorporated. Add the vanilla and beat to combine. Add the cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, and beat to combine, until desired consistency is reached. Transfer the buttercream to a piping bag fitted with a round tip. Add a dollop of buttercream to one macaron shell. Top it with another macaron shell to create a sandwich. Repeat with remaining macaron shells and buttercream. Place in an airtight container for 24 hours to “bloom”. Enjoy!

COVID19
On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) upgraded the status of the COVID-19 outbreak from epidemic to pandemic. Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on their surface, there are many types of Coronaviruses that were first discovered in the 1960s different types of coronavirus circulate as the common cold and 30% upper respiratory tract infections. In the last 20 years, the world has seen 3 Coronaviruses outbreaks. The SARS in 2002, the MERS in 2012 and now the Covid 19 in 2019. The new coronavirus, now known as Covid-19, was first encountered in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, an infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure, and even death. The name Covid-19 was announced on 11 February 2020 by the World Health Organization. The director-general of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has quoted “We had to find a name that did not refer to a geographical location, an animal, an individual or group of people, and which is also pronounceable and related to the disease. Having a name matters to prevent the use of other names that can be inaccurate or stigmatizing.” - By Inas Inayath TULIP - APRIL, 2020 37

How to protect yourself?
As per the recommendations of the world health organizations, these are the stated precautionary measures to reduce the impact of COVD19
There is no specific treatment for coronavirus infections and most people will recover on their own, according to the CDC (Center for disease control). So treatment involves rest and medication to relieve existing symptoms. A humidifier or hot shower can help to relieve a sore throat and cough. If you are mildly sick, you should drink a lot of fluids and rest. There is no vaccine for the new coronavirus but researchers have confirmed that they are in preliminary stages of developing one.

Myth Busters
COVER STORY |
Common myths about COVD19 This list has been prepared as per the World Health Organization official advisory as an advice to the public Myth: The COVID-19 can only be transmitted in areas with a hot and humid climate According to the evidence collected by the World Health Organization, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. Myth: Taking a hot bath does not prevent the new coronavirus disease Taking a hot bath will not prevent you from catching COVID-19. Your normal body temperature remains around 36.5°C to 37°C, regardless of the temperature of your bath or shower. Actually, taking a hot bath with extremely hot water can be harmful, as it can burn you states WHO. Myth: The new coronavirus CANNOT be transmitted through mosquito bites. To date, there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus could be transmitted by mosquitoes. The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose.
Myth: Can spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body kill the new coronavirus? No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body. Spraying such substances can be harmful to clothes or mucous membranes (i.e. eyes, mouth). Be aware that both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces, but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations. Myth: Are antibiotics effective in preventing and treating the new coronavirus? No, antibiotics do not work against viruses, only bacteria. The new coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a virus and, therefore, antibiotics should not be used as a means of prevention or treatment. However, if you are hospitalized for the 2019-nCoV, you may receive antibiotics because bacterial co-infection is possible. Myth: Can eating garlic help prevent infection with the new coronavirus? Garlic is a healthy food that may have some antimicrobial properties. However, there is no evidence from the current outbreak that eating garlic has protected people from the new coronavirus.
As the Erasmus quote goes, “Prevention is Better than Cure”. Covid 19 has been impacting our lives deeper than imagined, we spoke to some of Hyderabad’s medical experts and others who are part of the community to ask them about their opinions on the ongoing pandemic.
“For many, life, as we know it, has come to a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic. Schools are being closed, employees are being asked to work from home, retail outlets are pulling down their shutters. Social distancing has become the new norm. Amid all this uncertainty, as the whole world is confronting their mortality, doctors all over are being stretched to the limit. They are being asked to face a pandemic that no one fully understands, in spite of being short on personal protective gear, supplies, equipment, sleep, and personnel; thereby risking their own health and lives. Gross inadequacies in the health care systems have been exposed all over the world. I have heard a lot of people complaining about the work from home issues, cribbing about their daily planners that need to be submitted to their bosses. But they don’t realize that doctors are at the frontlines trying to protect them from this pandemic. Doctors don’t have the privilege of “working from home”.To all these people, on behalf of the medical fraternity, we request you to please cooperate with the authorities and stay at home to prevent the spread of the pandemic. At this point, there seems to be no way of containing the spread except by limiting contact with each other.” Dr. Amisha Kawle M. D. It’s time for us to act responsibly. The Corona threat is real and Coming 2 weeks are very crucial and challenging days for our entire health system. Reports from ground zero in other countries don’t look good. We are in a way fortunate to be the last country to be affected. Which gives us time and a better understanding of this ongoing pandemic. We should act responsibly and by proper precautions, we can mitigate its impact.” Dr. Sunil Mohan Murarisetty MD Pediatrics, Fellowship in Neonatology
“I think the ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research) and Govt should speed up testing and conduct random tests. When Community transmission happens, it will spread in a way that cannot be controlled. There will be no looking back! Currently, with only about 166 being infected, the attitude of people and the government seems to be relaxed. But if S.Korea and Italy could have numbers jumping from hundreds to Lakh in days, then we with a billion population need to definitely worry. People need to take this seriously. We need to be kind to what is being said and kinder to people who work with us. Stay home, and stay safe should be the motto. If we are focused on following precautions for 10 days then the situation should subside in India, and we will not be under the threat zone. It has created panic in my thoughts and schedule. The whole scenario of working from home, and cutting down commute is normal until you are enjoying it, but not when you are mentally compelling yourself to. Social recession and isolation are more than just mental changes. I have stopped buying vegetables and fruits. I have switched to e-commerce but the worry is how long does this have to go on for.” Karishma Asoodani, Independent Business Journalist
The key to stopping the spread of CoViD 19 is maintaining proper hand hygiene with soap and water, keeping a safe social distance (3 meters) and if you’re not well to stay at home and use precautions to not spread it to others. Efforts are ongoing to develop a vaccine but until then prevention is key. Dr. Mir Samir Inayath MD, Anaesthesiologist-Postdoctoral Fellow in Paediatric Anesthesiology

“I just went out a week back for dinner and I am very aware of the number of people we actually meet on a daily basis. The cab driver, the maid, the people at the restaurant, the people who serve you, my friends with whom I was out. Now imagining I carry the virus and each of these people goes out and comes in contact with more people? I can’t imagine what that will lead to. That’s when I realized the enormity of what this virus means for us. I just stay home now 99% of the time. Another thing I have noticed is that our privilege allows us to stay at home, work from home and still get paid. People from underprivileged backgrounds do not have a choice. Sadly, I don’t even know how we can remedy this situation. Making everyone work from home, in general, feels like the end of the movement as such. It’s living through tv screens and phone screens. It’s living virtually. It’s all very sad really.” Kriti Samidi, Post Graduate Student
“I’m actually interested in the long-term effects of COVID-19. Now that people are actually working from home, will that become a norm later? Will countries spend more on public healthcare systems? Will online classes and courses become more popular? There are so many questions to be answered once it’s all over. I have been practicing social distancing. And we are all working from home. And washing hands was essential anyway.” Manasi Bhallamudi Project Consultant, Change Seekers LLP

Beat in egg and then vanilla. Reduce speed to low; gradually add flour mixture just until incorporated. Shape dough into 4 disks; roll each between 2 sheets of parchment paper to 1/4 inch thick. Refrigerate until firm, 30 minutes. Heat oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment. Using egg-shaped cutters, cut out cookies. Place on sheets. Reroll, chill and cut scraps. Bake, rotating positions of pans halfway through, until cookies are light golden brown around edges, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on sheets 5 minutes; transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Make icing: Using mixer, beat egg whites and cream of tartar on medium-high speed until foamy, about 1 minute. Reduce speed to low; gradually add confectioners’ sugar until incorporated. On high speed, beat until medium-stiff glossy peaks form, 5 to 7 minutes. Add water 1 teaspoon at a time to icing to make thin drizzling consistency. Spoon 3 tablespoons onto plate. Add a couple of drops of food coloring; swirl using wooden pick. Place cookie top down directly into frosting, then slowly peel cookie away to one side, turning upright, and let excess fall off. Transfer to wire rack until set. Repeat with remaining cookies, changing icing colors as desired.

Easter Basket Cake Ingredients Cake All purpose flour Unsweetened cocoa powder Baking soda Baking powder Salt Brown sugar Granulated sugar Eggs Oil Buttermilk Vanilla extract Instant Expresso powder Chocolate frosting Unsalted butter, Powdered sugar, Cocoa powder, Whipping cream, Vanilla extract, Salt Decorate 8 ounces marshmallows, 3 tablespoons cocoa, Green Shimmer Sugar, Malted Milk Candy Eggs Instructions Cake First things first, start by spraying your cake pans with nonstick cooking spray and lining them with some parchment paper. Tip: Turn your cake pan upside down and use the bottom of the pan as a guide for cutting out your circle of parchment paper. Next, sift together your dry ingredients – all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. It’s important to sift together the ingredients to remove any lumps in your cake batter. Then whisk in some brown sugar and granulated sugar until well combined. After the sugar is thoroughly mixed with the dry ingredients, you’ll whisk in some eggs, oil, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until just combined. Your batter should be pretty thick at this point, similar to a fudgy brownie batter. Then, pour in a cup of boiling water mixed with a teaspoon of instant espresso powder. It doesn’t make your cake taste like coffee, but instead, it enhances the chocolate flavour in the cake. You can also just use 1 cup of strong brewed hot coffee instead. Once you’ve mixed up the batter, you’ll pour it into your prepared cake pans and bake them for about 30 minutes. Chocolate Frosting You’ll start with two sticks of unsalted butter that have been softened to room temperature. I suggest using unsalted butter since the amount of salt can vary between different brands of salted butter. Next, beat the butter for 1-2 minutes just until it’s nice and smooth. Then, mix in the powdered sugar. You can sift your powdered sugar if you prefer, but to be honest I always skip this step. It’s also best to mix the powdered sugar in 1 cup at a time so that it’s thoroughly mixed with the butter. Be sure to stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl as well once you finished mixing the last cup of powdered sugar in with the butter. Once the powdered sugar is mixed with the butter, sift in your cocoa powder. I know I said you can skip sifting the powdered sugar, but I never skip sifting the cocoa powder because no one likes a huge lump of unsweetened cocoa powder in their frosting. Mix in the cocoa powder until it’s well combined, the mixture will be pretty thick at this point. Finally, mix in some heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract,
and a tiny pinch of salt. I suggest starting with 3 tablespoons of heavy cream and then add another tablespoon if you think you need it. You can frost this chocolate cake. Decorate Combine marshmallows and cocoa in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds.Stir marshmallows. {Warning. Hot marshmallows will burn. And it hurts!} Keep stirring. Stir, stir, stir some more! Stir until marshmallows are cool enough to touch and cocoa is completely dissolved. This is where it gets messy. Or fun, depending on how you look at things. Using both hands, stretch a small glob of marshmallow out into a long, thin, stringy strand. Start wrapping the stringy marshmallow around your cake. Go around and around the sides of the cake in a circular motion. Go light at first until you get the hang of it. Less is more! And thinner strands look better in the end. Continue to stretch and drape marshmallow strings. Move up and down the cake as you continue to pull more marshmallow around the cake in a circular pattern. Continue to add more marshmallow. Start overlapping the strings to completely cover your cake and create a woven appearance. Think of grapevine baskets as you go. Call it quits when you like what you see. Fill a disposable piping bag (or zip lock bag) with sprinkles and cut a small hole at end. We’ll use this to carefully cover the top of the cake with sprinkles. We don’t want any stray sprinkles falling because they will stick to the sides of the cake. Build your top layer of sprinkles by first outlining the edges. Get as close to the edge as possible without going over. Then move inward to completely cover the cake in a solid layer of sprinkles. Place candy Easter eggs on top of cake. And you’re finished! Easter signifies the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. All the family celebrations. We pray and attend church services. We have potluck family meals. We decorate eggs with the kids and perform an Easter egg hunt. The hunted eggs are filled with chocolates, jelly beans and cash. Kids are given an Easter basket full of gifts. The gifts include chocolates, jelly beans, colouring books with crayons and stuffed animals, hot-wheels or Barbie’s. All kids get new clothes to wear to church and for the family festivities. Time with my entire extended family was the most memorable time of Easter. The gifts were exciting too, but spending time with my siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents were more memorable than any gift I ever received - except for that $50 dollar bill inside the egg during an Easter egg hunt. This year I plan to pray during breakfast, gifting my children with new clothes and an Easter egg hunt inside our home. Last year, I prayed during breakfast to give thanks to God and then took my family to Goa for a week on a beach vacation. I also gifted my child with a new shirt clothes and put together an Easter basket for him. These are the Easter baskets I gifted my child.

Easter is always special to us. It represents hope, faith and forgiveness. I love preparing for Easter with egg decorating. The kids love the Easter Hunt for chocolates and goodies. We always go to a brunch at a hotel. It means a lot for us to celebrate with family to share in symbolism of unity and eternal love. My father used to get us a big Easter basket each year. That was always the memory of Easter I have. Last year, we went to a hotel brunch at Westin. But, this year due to travel restrictions we have to stay home but at least we are with family.

As a kid, Easter was very special because I am Irish Catholic and was in a church choir, and Easter was big like Christmas. We practiced all though lent for Easter We gave up things (usually sweets) for Lent and Easter was the end of that. In the middle of Lent is St Patrick’s day and that was always a big celebration -- still is. We have a party at our house ever year. Have hosted St Patrick’s parties in Beijing, Kobe Japan, Colombo, Lima Peru and Hyderabad for past 27 years. At the end of Lent would have Holy Week with Maunday Thursday and Good Friday, where we could not eat meat and then Easter Saturday, where at noon, Lent was over. In England Easter Eggs (chocolate) were massive and still are -- all relatives would buy them and my brother and I would usually have around a dozen each. After church on Easter Sunday (where I would sing and play the guitar), we would have a Sunday roast and then eat our Easter eggs! No easter hunt in the UK! Today, in Hyderabad we go for Easter Sunday brunch. It is about new beginnings for me. I always decorate the house with eggs and bunnies etc and enjoy that spring is here and lent is over. A Thornton’s Chocolate easter egg with my name on it in about 1989 from my now-husband, Mike Aside from easter eggs, gifts are not given in my culture for easter. Previous year, we went for Easter brunch at the Park Hyatt - they always do a great job!! But this year, with COVID 19 - who knows -- Our older son Patrick (23) is with us and we hope to be at the PH-- if not a BBQ in the back garden.

CHANGE YOUR
HOME’S MOOD WITH
LIGHTING There aren’t many single factors in your household that can change your mood, your health, the comfort of your home, the appearance of colours, and the feeling of a room with just one aesthetic – lighting. Most of us are trying to find the trendiest sofa to put into our living room or best shade of blue to put into the office room by for getting about the most essential factor i.e. lighting. - By Peram Srija Reddy
Know the impact of light on your mind
Did you know that cool, white lighting makes you want to move, and helps you eat less, whilst warmer, yellow light encourages you slow down or eat more? This is very important to know when lighting your kitchen or dining room. Also ensure you have layers of lights here: white light in the morning allows you to keep moving and yellow or dim lights at night makes you feel sleepy. Make sure you avoid coloured lights unless you want to make a statement.

Interior designing is about designing the spaces which can connect to people who live in them. The most important aspect is enhancing and highlighting the spaces with appropriate lights. Most of the designers keep in mind the importance of lighting in Home Interior Design. You cannot experience the interior architecture to the fullest if you don’t have proper lighting. Good lighting can be used to enhance colours within a design. Also, lightings can add or subtract from the overall colours of a room. Use of darker colours makes a room feel smaller and cramped. It is beneficial to test colours using different lighting types when selecting colours in the design phase. Some lighting such as directional lighting soften the wall colours. The light emitted may be a warm or cool colour depending upon the type of fixture. Color preferences are objective in nature when coming to decorating your home. Considering right Lighting is required to enhance the colours aspects of the living spaces. Ar. Vinay Rathi Architect & Interior Designer @vinayandrashmi

Create light ‘layers’
Merge indoor with outdoor
Lighting, single handedly plays a very important role in creating impact to any given space. Any thing and every thing else can be improved with this. Its definitely worth spending sometime planning out the layering in lights in homes. Basically there are three types of layers in lighting, First one being Ambient light, which is also called general lighting, which includes natural light coming in from windows, french doors or skylights etc in day time. Where as during evenings we use artificial lights like tube lights, ceiling lights, etc. Second layer is called Task lighting, this is most functional type of layer. This can be achieved by adding Table lamps, side lamps, floor lamps, mirror lights, vanity lights, under counter lights etc. Third layer is Accent lighting. These can be also called as mood lighting, or mood boosters. It can be added to accent any given space or things which requires ones attention, which you want to highlight or disguise. Ar. Amit Shah Principal Architect @kamitshah
“Lighting is a simple design element that transforms the ambience immediately! It is super versatile and works with all spaces and every style of décor. In Architecture & Interior design lighting is both functional and aesthetic. Outdoor lighting elevates the residence façade while providing visibility. It’s also a great way to ensure the setbacks of your residence are well lit which provide a sense of security as well. Most home owners normally ignore outdoor lighting because job sites close after sunset. It is important to plan the outdoor lighting design during the construction stages itself to make necessary electrical provisions. No matter the size of the house, generally, outdoor lighting can be used in home porticos/ corridors, sconce (wall lights) in sit-outs/balconies, up-lights for plants and name plates, façade lights to highlight cladding details, etc“ Varsha Prabhu @varshaprabhu Architect
Another way to ensure a room is never too dark or too bright is to add number of lighting layers to your space. Place floor lamps behind large furniture pieces and table lamps on any unlit surfaces such as console tables or sideboards. As for any tricky corners or recesses, there’s a massive amount of wall lights available. To easily layer light, combine plenty of lamps and floor lamps, fairy lights and even candles at different levels, with different wattage bulbs to vary the mood in your home: much more interesting than a single, lonely pendant light, or a ceiling full of indiscriminate down lighters!
Don’t abandon the garden just because the night are drawing in, invest in some lights which draws the attention out of interior to the spaces beyond. This will extend the view from indoors, making the room look larger whilst making the garden look great and ensuring it’s bright enough to enjoy well into the dark nights.

INTERIOR | Allow natural light
How you light your rooms with artificial light and how much natural light pours into your home can make all the difference. Natural light is needed for all humans to thrive and our skin, eyes, hair, mind and all well-being need natural light to be healthy. At the same time, your home reaps the benefits as well. Natural light can kill bacteria that loom in dark and wet spaces in your home and it creates an ambiance that can’t be rivalled by artificial lighting sources.
‘Light plays the most crucial role in interior design. Without proper lighting, the design does not get that appeal. Whatever you spend on your interiors, without proper lighting it won’t stand out, whether it’s natural or artificial. Lighting has two be given utmost importance. Natural light gives a sense of calm and positivity. Whether it’s home or office, natural light adds freshness to the place. We should try to keep our homes well ventilated so that we can get the natural light. If it’s villa, then we can try to get skylight. Apart from normal windows, it will give a good amount of natural light throughout the day. Try having big windows wherever possible, specially east and west side of the houses. Natural light plays a crucial role in interiors. The shadows gives a drama to the ambience, plus natural light is healthy too. Try to have your homes well ventilated. Natural light makes your house look bright, spacious, adds freshness, hygienic, kills germs etc.’ Varun Mehta and Rahul Jain Partners at Think Designz @varunmehta77 @jainrahul9

Consider lighted decorative objects
This is an idea for anyone who likes a sense of fun in their home. Neon signs or lighted objects like photo frames, not only add to space but also add to light layers while making a statement that illuminates décor. You can get useful objects that just happen have lights in them. For example, some clocks, picture frames, even essential oil diffusers come with LED lights which in conjunction with aromatherapy, they breathe out, can really change the mood in the room.
Lighting is something which needs to be conceptualized along with the interiors as it sets the mood and ambience of the space, and should not be considered as an afterthought. Interior lighting design should be in accordance with the space, decor, placement of furniture, colour of the room, and the function for which the room is needed. Decorative lighting creates a visual impact and can be used for accentuating -a wall lamp to highlight a painting and for specific tasks like wall or table lamps to read. Decorative lighting also gives a personality and style to the space. For example, in a bedroom, if a person likes to read on the bed, more emphasis should be laid on having certain wall lights which direct light onto the book which will be more convenient. For a powder bathroom, a decorative pendant would be a great idea in order to create a statement and visual interest for the guests. If there is a neutral scheme in a space, a statement light fitting can add character to the space and enhance the architectural details. Mounika Kodali Architect @beyondspacedesignstudio

It’s unclear if Jones and Chantal are still together, but it does appear as if they had some sort of relationship at some point. IfIf their relationship just ended then she could have been messing with Jones and limiting some of his opportunities. We don’t really know, it could also have been a little from column a and a little from column b.What we do know is she isn’t new to being in relationships with famous men. She also isn’t new to drama. She was involved in some love triangle drama with DJ Drama earlier this year.

MOVIES Movie Reviews
Angrezi Medium Homi Adajania’s ‘Angrezi Medium’ touches upon the pulse of the young generation’s obsession with pursuing further studies in foreign countries, and their family’s determination to embrace every Himalayan hurdle for their loved ones. There are other underlying themes, too, but this remains the primary subject of the film.It is a well-known fact that in reality, Irrfan shot this movie while undergoing treatment. But, while watching this film, you can put that thought aside. What you witness on screen is the actor in his element – in every frame. He just takes you along... you laugh with him, cry with him and every time he overcomes an obstacle, you rejoice with him. Irrfan breathes life into Champak in a way that nobody else can. And walking shoulder to shoulder with him is yet another fine actor, Deepak Dobriyal. The first half of the screenplay is more engaging then the second, but, while trying to fit in too many subplots, the story goes quite haywire. There are some fantastic moments in the film, and sharply written scenes between the characters, too, which in turn, prove to be the highlights of this drama. However, the story is far too convenient and has inconsistencies that are hard to overlook, but Irrfan’s exceptional performance makes it worth the watch.
Bloodshot Bloodshot never had a chance of starting a new cinematic universe. Once upon a time, the Vin Dieselled action movie based on the comic book from Valiant Entertainment would have kicked off a new cinematic universe built around its superheroes. That is no longer the case, largely due to a shift in which studio now has the film rights to most Valiant characters. But even if rights weren’t an issue, Bloodshot — which is more of a middling action movie than a promising superhero debut — doesn’t inspire confidence. And in the midst of a pandemic that has reshaped Hollywood, is there even room for a new cinematic universe anymore? As an action movie, Bloodshot is the worst kind of uninspiring: not bad enough to circle back around toward fun, not good enough at action to be even momentarily impressed by a fight scene. Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is a soldier rebuilt with the power of hightech nanomachines that make him super strong, super fast, and able to recover from any injury. The company that did this wants Garrison to be a guinea pig, and Garrison just wants to use his powers to get revenge on the man who killed his wife. The twist comes when Garrison learns that his memories are forgeries, manipulated to motivate him into doing some corporate dirty work.
Madha Madha (Insanity Personified) is an intriguing psychological thriller pulled off with the help of sharp crescendos and low-lights, which impressively work in creating the kind of atmosphere debutant Sri Vidya Basawa aims for. Putting aside the fact that the film is bogged down by slow-paced introductions and a not-so-gripping climax, Madha works for the most part and is a modest thriller.Earlier on in the film, a psychiatrist called Balasubramaniam (Bikramjeet Kanwarpal) begins his lecture on the human mind, describing it as a dangerous weapon. As he delves deeper into his lecture, Arjun and Nisha’s story runs on a parallel, apart from a sub-plot of a group of scientists working on a gene correction program. How and why Arjun deceives Nisha, and what it has to do with the lecture and scientists both, is what the film is all about.Madha is a technically strong film, coupled with a gripping story that keeps things interesting. But the love story between Arjun and Nisha is a huge letdown, never keeping the audience engaged enough. It’s only when the film manages to cross past that and get to the story that things get interesting. The climax and end again are a disappointment. Despite its flaws, the film works due to Naresh Kumaran’s background score that elevates the film when necessary, even if it goes a bit overboard at times. Abhiraj Nair’s cinematography keeps things interesting with the perfect balance he strikes between the light and colour.

BOOKS Anna Karenina (2012)
Anna Karenina tells of the doomed love affair between the sensuous and rebellious Anna and the dashing officer, Count Vronsky. Tragedy unfolds as Anna rejects her passionless marriage and thereby exposes herself to the hypocrisies of society. Anna Karenina is a classic novel written about life. Author Leo Tolstoy proves that life is really tough, and families all have their battles that they must face. And what a well-written novel it is. Tolstoy has a way with words, though he is constantly drifting off onto other subject matters, away from what the story is really about at that time. He can go off on three page rants on farming methods, political policies, or philosophical discussions on God. In addition, Tolstoy brilliantly displays every character, without leaving a detail out.
Madame Bovary (2014)
When Emma Rouault marries Charles Bovary she imagines she will pass into the life of luxury and passion that she reads about in sentimental novels and women’s magazines. But Charles is a dull country doctor, and provincial life is very different from the romantic excitement for which she yearns. Madame Bovary is often called the first “realist” novel, but the realism is intensely subjective. It is not the socio-economic facts of French life in 19th-century Normandy that Flaubert is interested in, but the moment-by-moment passage of time as it exists in that setting. Flaubert could have chosen any character in any setting, but he chose someone who lived in the world he was most familiar with.
Lolita (1955)
Awe and exhiliration–along with heartbreak and mordant wit–abound in Lolita, Nabokov’s most famous and controversial novel, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert’s obsessive, devouring, and doomed passion for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America. Most of all, it is a meditation on love-love as outrage and hallucination, madness and transformation. For Mr. Nabokov has distilled from his shocking material hundred-proof intellectual farce. His book is slightly reminiscent of Thomas Mann’s Confessions of Felix Krull; but Lolita has a stronger charge of comic genius and is more brilliantly written.

Reading April 2020
Clear your mind, take a few Deep breaths and concentrate on the 3 cards in front of you with the below question in mind: “What are my intuitive/psychic gifts?”
Now choose one card and look below for the answer to your question:
CARD 1
CARD 2
CARD 3
CARD 1:
Strength Look at modus operandi, or technique, in another way. You are involved in a more complicated situation than shows outwardly. For example, one person believes, “We aren’t really dating. It’s just a friendship” The other person considers it a date, perhaps even more. There are a whole lot of emotions operating beneath your awareness. If you don’t know better, you had better find out. This is a different circumstance than you think it is.
CARD 2:
The Star The Star encourages you to tote what you consider errors of judgement into the light of day. Take the time to look at them closely. Recognize first that when your decisions were made, a few of the alternatives were literally unimaginable. Look at what you know now. You can rebound to your advantage at this time. You could be in a significantly better position than you even thought possible.
CARD 3:
The Tower The scary looking Tower is meant to awaken. The symbolic lightning is unadulterated energy. Energy is in you. Got problems? It isn’t wrong to have them. They are opportunities to be alive. What is wrong is to ignore the issues. There are matters to settle before your wish comes true. You know what they are. Besides, what do you get out of things being the way they are? Think about it.
