Drunken Monkey An extremely outstanding place for juices, shakes, smoothies and more…! The place is decent with a lot of playing options like Jenga, Uno and more which help you not know where the time has flown! We had three drinks and were head over heels with its taste! Starting off with the highly recommended, The pharaoh, where Avocado is blended with dates, almonds, cashews and ice-cream! The taste was rich and creamy because of the avocado and a little bit of sweetness due to dates. Go in for a surprise and order the monkey confidential part 1 - it is worth the risk! It is delicious and you still would not know its ingredients because it’s all confidential! We also had the Nutella Coffee Shake which tops our list among everything, it just outcasts all the cold coffees on this planet. All in all, it is an ideal place to chill sip some lip smacking juices and play some Jenga! 8-2-120/115/B, Road Number 2, Opposite KBR Park, Next to Maruti showroom, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad +91 8106951808

Haiku An authentic Japanese cuisine, brought by Haiku, is quite a revolution in the food history of the city. The place is done quite classy and well with a combination of wooden and pure geometrical walls. Haiku is extremely spacious with the theme to be very neat and clean. We love how they have done wooden birds all around the place that makes it so picturesque. Coming to the food, don’t miss out on the Haiku special - Khao soi, a blend of hand cut rice and noodles with coconut milk. This was by far the most perfect Khao sueys, I have ever tasted. A refreshing try would be the tangy Lotus stem which is stir-fried with honey and spices, very crispy and new to the taste buds. Chef’s recommendation of spicy Miso Glazed Chicken Wings was cooked to perfection and not to forget the Chicken Cilantro which was zesty in a traditional bao. We went with some bubble tea to accompany our food with. The portions are good enough for two heavy eaters and help you fill in easily. From the main course, we also tried the haiku special fried rice in Khao pad, which was like a seven treasured rice but sticky like in the Thai. We also had the sushi which cannot be missed, served with a flower creation of Wasabi. Ending this great culinary journey with some green tea and dessert - Layered Indulgence, a brick of caramel, biscuits and cookie dough was just amazing! 8-2-686/d, Above Good Earth, Road 12, Banjara Hills, 040 33165363

WHATS NEW

Zaiqa-e-Hyderbad Zaiqa-e-Hyderabad a new entrant in traditionally old cuisine serves core Nizami dishes. Hyderabadi food is synonymous to Biryani but there is much more to the royal cuisine than just it. Just served in old café’s and traditional Muslim weddings, it’s really hard to find the authentic flavors in urban space; but few restaurants are doing their, research, taking forward the traditions and serving us the (almost authentic) taste. The place is small and the service is far too slow. However the chef ‘Mr. Khosla’ came to our rescue on request and we were then on a food journey with dishes being served back to back. The Haleem at Zaiqa-e-Hyderabad is succulent and good enough to fulfill your appetite, rich in herbs and garnish and less in ghee. They have a very limited menu and even fewer options for vegetarian. In Starters you will enjoy ‘Veg and Non-veg Lukhmi’, another traditional dish of Nizami cuisine. The ‘Shikampuri’, kebab is a delight in a bite and so is ‘Murgh Malai Kebab’ even ‘Sona Zaffrani Tikka’ pleasured us with a hint of smoky flavor, coming from being cooked over charcoal’, ‘Paneer Tikka’ is a good option to opt for vegetarians. ‘Tali Machli’ from the sea food option is crispy fried fillet of fish. However ‘Asaf Jahi Gosht Korma’ and ‘Osmania Jhinga’ won our hearts in terms of flavors in main course paired with rumali roti and butter naan. We also tried the ‘Nizami Handi’ creamy cashew based gravy loaded of veggies, a good change from Paneer options. They have variety in Biryanis as well, like ‘Kacchi Yakhni Biryani’ mutton and rice cooked dum style, most authentic way of preparing a Biryani, they also have options like ‘Chicken Dum Biryani’ ‘Subz Biryani’ and ‘Anda Biryani’ In desserts we would definitely recommend the ‘Double ka meetha’ which was really delightful. Glocal Junction Re-launches its Menu Glocal in tow with trend in city revamped their food and beverages menu adding a lot of interesting stuff. Branded to be famous for their fusion food, they have just notched their level up. With food divided in section s like Small Plates, Pizzastic, Street Foodsie, Salad Sphere, Grillosify, Burwiches among other options. We tried something from each and more than satisfied. From ‘Street Foodsie’ we tried ‘Tokri Chaat’ which is small baskets of filo filled with the goodness of Indian chaat.) Next was ‘Kachapuri’ a Georgian national dish with a blend of minced chicken with cheese on a boat-shaped pie, topped with fried egg sunny side up, this is defiantly a must recommend dish and superstar of the menu. Doner Puri from the ‘Small Plates’ section are small sized puris stuffed with hummus, Lebanese style chicken, topped with desi style sev, it was something very out of box, crunchy and creamy at the same time. The menu has a long list of pizzas, pastas, and risottos. We were served ‘Rice Conjee Risotto’ a glocal twist of Italian Arborio rice cooked in a Japanese conjee way topped with a Slice of Soya Marinated Grilled Fish; creamy and tasteful; and ‘Dosa Waffle with Chicken Sukka’ this is as good as it a dosa can get in a fusion way, bursting with flavors this is fusion at its best. The desserts menu retains our favourite ‘Kalkatta Paan Cheese Cake’, ‘Masala Chai Pannacotta’ but a new addition of ‘Oreo Banofee Muffin’ with caramel sauce is sure to please bonafee lovers. It was a dry day on our visit so let’s just say drinks were for next time. Location: Ground Floor & First Floor, Niharika One, Road No. 1, Jubilee Hills. Ph:65308999 14 APRIL, 2017 - TULIP

Throughout the meal we kept hopping between different cuisines. Whether it was the Nalli Niharithe lamb shanks gravy or China Box, each dish was on point. Stuffed Tangri was another highlight with fillings of cheese and mince. Shammi Kababs available in both veg and non-veg were soft and melt-in-themouth. Cheese Cake Brownie, with gooey fudge sauce was a perfect end to the meal. Location: Mocha Bar & Café,Road 13, Jubilee Hills. Ph: 33165274

Italian with a Season of Bollywood at The Westin Hyderabad Mindspace

Westin Hyderabad conducted an entertaining Italian Food Festival with Chef Antonello from The Westin Mumbai. Food festivals these days are much more than mere food. They come with an entire package of fun, awareness of an entire new cuisine, and of course tasting some of the best delicacy by expert chefs. A special handcrafted menu was curated by Chef that included his personal favourites like ‘Spiedini di Suprema di Polo (parsley chicken skewers) and Frittele di Baccala (cod fish fritters) There was also Foccacia A Formaggio di Recco – cheese filing, sandwiched between two layers of paper thin dough, Risotto Al Vino Rosso – Red wine risotto in blue cheese. Pistachio and Nutella Tiramisu a perfect end to an exceptional meal. Just similar was the Italian food festival by Chef Antonello who also conducted a cooking master class before the launch of food festival, gracing us with lots of tips and tricks to get the authenticity in the dish just right. Chef Antonello is not only a pro in the kitchen but also a talented musician and quite an entertainer. He kept the guests entertained with surprise performance of few Bollywood numbers; our favourite was definitely ‘Chura Liya hia’ which he sang and played on guitar with uttermost ease.

Over a Cappuccino with Seema Azharuddin One of the most influential personalities we know, Seema Azharuddin is more than an artist. She is in conversation with us and talks about her passion, career and more!

Tell us something about yourself as an individual? I would say, I’m someone who has high expectations for my results. I am confident in my ability to produce, and while I prepare for the worst, I do the work necessary to tilt the odds so that the best will happen. This may sound quiet typically an answer to a management type question, but then, I’ve been in the corporate world for over 28 years and have always believed this for myself as an individual, as in a caring consultant in leadership and communications, as a producer of film and international theatre, as an activist for women & children’s education & health, as an actor, writer and journalist. All of the above spanning three decades, makes you think hard about your individuality and as an individual if you did or do continue to make a difference in others, in helping with change, choices and chances, which should be a goal, I believe. As an individual, it is for me. Tell us a little about how the idea of being a Theatre artist came to you? Being a theatre artist really is not an idea. It’s more like, “I am a theatre artist. I provoke changes and transfer imagination to the stage 26 APRIL, 2017 - TULIP

and alter the perceptions of the audience”. Does this sound like an idea? I think not and so to become an artist, in my opinion, is a progression of what already exists in you, came to you naturally to perform and then taking an oath to a lifelong endeavor to hone, to skill, to study, to make believe into a belief, to interact with varying dimensions within the actor in you. So, when I realized I had the potential to become an artist, understanding slowly but surely that it was my true calling, I came up with the idea of starting ‘Kartaal Productions’, my production house, in 2010. This became a reality for me from a dream I had and nurtured 30 years prior! How has the journey been by far? Ah the journey! Yes, it’s always about the journey and the journey is always naturally rough. We began the show with bringing copyrighted Broadway scripts to India then moved to commercial film production. Finding actors with an easy command of

rhetoric and who understand the undying significance to help individualize a character; finding directors for the stage is definitely arduous. Finding the funds, the sponsors, and more partnering producers is always hard and for every production the cycle stares you in the face and one has to keep peddling, keep walking, talking, and living the journey! We, at ‘Kartaal’, are a production house, not a theatre group. Producing Broadway caliber theatrical ventures, making both commercial films and ‘docu – dramas’, comedy spoofs and running workshops both in English and Telugu, has seen its challenges, followed by intense commitment to overcome to not have to resort to compromise or make segues from the original plans. I also enjoy working with film artists and bring them into my productions to give an opportunity to experience theatre. It was an experience having maestro Ilayaraja scoring and making history for our production of ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”! To date, we have produced seven major

LIFESTYLE productions in six years and are in the process of rolling out two more ventures this year. There’s a lot to cover as each production has a different journey in the different paths it travels upon. To your question of the journey then, in all its aspects, I’m going to explain it further with the old saying,” When the going gets tough; the tough get going”! So, how does theatre compare to film in production, direction, acting, making etc. and can your management skills reflect the skills used on these platforms? Theatre, for the most part does not compare to film production. Anything live versus recorded is what we call ‘impromptu genius’ in motion, for one comparison. Theatre does not give you a second chance. It’s like you live it or you die! All of the quick misses or dialogue disruptions are immediately compensated with the creativity and ingenuity of the actors and their sharp minds. I find this fascinating! A month ago I had the pleasure to watch six of Broadways best in NY. It is an overwhelming experience to see such flawlessness in execution, extreme flawlessness. Gives you goose pimples both when watching and after, much later than after! Theatre is, undoubtedly, the greatest platform of expression. Watching a great movie is magic, indeed. Sheer magic! Theatre is an actor’s medium; movies, a

director’s medium. All of the skills on these platforms can be used to orchestrate, administer and execute with accuracy and efficiency at management levels, say in a corporate environment. Theatre and film brings great confidence, understanding of organizational behaviors and development, building excellence in teamwork and greater expressions in both language and speech. It equips one to handle nontraditional experiences, to move when standing, to sit in the third row and evaluate, to be accessible and flexible, amongst other things. You are a consultant in management, a producer of Theatre and films, an actor, an activist, a writer, a journalist. How do you sustain and manage all your activities on a day to day basis? Sometimes it’s the method to the madness, sometimes a leap of faith, but most times it’s the passion that drives. You have to love what you are doing. At my stage, earning to survive is still necessary, but to earn (all bills have to be paid regardless) in the areas of work that one is passionate about, is bliss, is lucky, is fortunate, is blessed! To sustain and manage then becomes an exercise in love. It becomes easy to see it to the end because it’s a bonding; it’s a long lasting sensual affair; it’s everything you want a relationship to be. Most of all it is in the excitement of breaking the rules, reinventing, innovating, becoming a creator for audiences, for the people you work with, for inclusion of mind, body and soul. If there are ten things you love doing, be generous to yourself and do them all, because you can! In your experience, why do people fail or have trouble reaching goals? First off, they all have one thing in common these days: not enough continuous training and come with the delusion that they are ahead of the game. In my case, I see this whether it is with a project in management or nurturing the element of surprise in knowledge, in creativity and imagination. We tend to be delusional about this for sure and have the gall never to accept it leave alone correct it. Failing, as we know, could turn to many positives, if we learn from the mistakes, that is. I have hard time with the youth of the nation that I work with, who cannot accept that the kettle is boiling hot when told, but have to touch it and get burnt to accept it! Learning from others experiences, the mistakes made; without experiencing it live can sometimes save a lot of time. There are many reasons for not reaching goals. I believe that most systems and processes are good but its people who do not choose to adhere to them. We screw up a lot, as a people. In my experience, emotions play a

big role. Among them is the adult and juvenile arrogance that eventually comes back to bite hard at them. What do you do in your leisure time if you are not working? I have a hard time sitting still. Love watching movies, the Theatre, reading play scripts, cooking (it’s truly orgasmic for me!) and most of all give my leisure time to growing people and interacting with them, especially with the young and the restless. I love people in general and for me a cup of coffee with someone I did not know an hour ago or a chilled beer and an interesting conversation with people from all walks of life make for good leisure time. Tell us something about your family? I have two beautiful daughters, all grown up and flown in their directions of choice. My parents post independence Hindu – Muslim marriage sustained through a rough time then and sure did lead the way to opening the gates to a very culturally well rounded and dynamic family and generation in the making, or so I’d like to believe!

Rapid Fire 3 things you don’t leave home without? My phone, my smile and my head on my shoulders! Where would you take your next holiday to? Bhutan. Soundest advice you have received by far? Spend your two cents wisely! One thing that cheers you up immediately? Thoughts of those I love and especially a super hero in my life! Cheers! Your idea of a perfect day? Still looking for it! Your strength? Knowing my weaknesses and getting them out of the way! Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? I imagine only a tomorrow, if it comes, and I rarely see beyond today. Quick advice for young and budding actors? When you’re told ‘don’t give up on your dreams’ it doesn’t mean you keep sleeping! Your inspiration and why? Wonder Woman. The ‘why’ is all there in the name! Your favorite cuisine? It’s called “planet platter’’, food from around the world!

WELLBEING

For that easy Digestion Dr Nitesh Pratap,

is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at KIMS

Can you suggest us something about eating habits for a healthy digestion? We should eat a balanced diet with proper proportion of carbohydrates, proteins, fat, minerals and vitamins. The diet should be a high-fiber diet .There is 2 different types of fiber soluble and insoluble. Both are important for health, digestion, and preventing diseases. Soluble fiber attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion. Soluble fiber is found in oat bran, barley, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, peas, and some fruits and vegetables. Insoluble fiber is found in foods such as wheat bran, vegetables, and whole grains. It adds bulk to the stool and appears to help food pass more quickly through the stomach and intestines. Decrease intake of foods that are high in fat. Chicken, fish are to be preferred over red meat. Eat your meals on time regularly and take adequate amount of water What can one do to avoid gas problems? Eat slowly and chew your food well before Swallowing the food as gulping down food fast leads to swallowing larger amounts of air which may cause bloating. Smoking and excessive chewing of gum can cause you to swallow more air than you should be. Avoid aerated drinks. Yoga and regular exercise are great ways to improve the functioning of your digestive system. Reduce intake of foods like bengalgram, black gram, beans, cabbage and onions and sweeteners might help Avoid milk if you are having lactose intolerance. What are the symptoms of liver problems? Symptoms of liver problems include loss of appetite, yellowish discoloration of eyes, urine and skin (jaundice), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, abdominal distension and swelling of the legs. Why are people allergic to certain foods? Food allergies occur when the body’s immune system overreacts to substances in food triggering an allergic reaction. Food allergies are more common. Any food can cause an allergic response; some are notorious for provoking the immune system. Nuts, seeds and shellfish are well-known allergens, as are corn, milk, soy, eggs and wheat. Exact cause for allergies is not known. What is a treatment for acidity? If one is having problem of acidity (heartburn, pain in upper abdomen, bloating); he should avoid tea, coffee, caffeinated drinks, chocolates and spicy foods. Medical treatment is very useful and includes 1. Antacids that neutralize stomach acid such as Gelusil, Eno. 2. Medications to reduce acid production- Rantac. 3. Medications that block acid productions- Pantoprazole, Rabeprazole. Can you tell us something about anemia? Anemia means low hemoglobin. Common causes of anemia are nutritional deficiency of iron, Vitamin B12 and folic acid, gastrointestinal bleeding and menstrual bleeding in females. Acidity with peptic ulcer is a common cause of bleeding and can be easily diagnosed by endoscopy. Anemia in elderly can be due to large intestinal malignancy and needs to be ruled out by colonoscopy. What are the foods people should avoid for stopping indigestion? Meats- Beef, fried chicken/ mutton. Fats, Oils & Sweets- Chocolate, potato chips, high-fat butter cookies, brownies, fried or fatty food in general. Beverages- Liquor, wine, coffee, 30 APRIL, 2017 - TULIP

and tea. What are the advantages of having early dinner? The later you eat your last meal of the day, the more of it gets stored as fat and you run a risk of putting on weight. Late-night meals and snacking can interfere with your sleep. When you are eating dinner on time and not missing out on the next day’s breakfast, your energy levels will remain high and intact Contact: 9000150678

Tips for easy digestion Make time for breakfast Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism. Remember, you’re doing your digestive system a favour, so don’t skip the most important meal of the day. Make it doubly effective by including a daily probiotic like Activia yoghurt, the only yoghurt specifically targeting digestive discomfort. It comes in a tub. You have no excuse. Eat slowly You’re eating on the run, you’re busy, you’re stressed, you’re late – we get it – but you still need to chew, chew, chew instead of bolting your food. Every time you slow down, your digestive system catches up. Try it; you’ll like it. Get moving Dedicated exercise is a force for digestive good, but all activity counts. Take the stairs. Walk to the shops. Leave your desk for the occasional magical mystery tour of the office. Your digestive system doesn’t care how you move, only that you do. Don’t supersize Gavin calls it “portion proportion” – beware the dreaded supersized serve. We were raised to eat everything on our plate, but that was before portions blew out beyond belief. Try leaving some empty space on your plate at home. It’s that easy. And when you’re out, watch out: if your meal looks too big to comfortably break down, it probably is. Drink water Water. It’s free, fast and fabulous. Drink more - especially 20 minutes before mealtimes. Avoid processed foods Our obsession with low GI foods continues, but Gavin says it’s “all about low HI: foods with low human intervention.” Processed foods are the enemy of digestive health. Looking for a culprit? Put back the box. Anything that can sit on a shelf for six months can stay there.

All you wanted to know about anaesthesia Dr Anagani Kamala Devi,

Senior consultant anaesthesiologist, Care and Maxivision hospitals

Who is an anaesthesiologist and what training do they go under? A-anaesthesiologist is a doctor who after completing MBBS does post graduation degree in this subject ... after which few sub specialize in cardiac, Neuro, regional, obstetric, critical care and pain management specialities. Where and what areas and types of anaesthesia can be given? Majorly, anaesthesia can be GENERAL anaesthesia where in whole body is anesthetized by giving drugs by blood circulation and gases by lungs; this can be given for all surgeries. REGIONAL anaesthesia where in only part of the body where the surgery is being performed can be blocked by spinal, nerve blocks or local anaesthesia. What is the purpose of giving anaesthesia and a role of anaesthetist? Any surgery planned or unplanned will be painful. We, anaesthesiologists make the patient pain free, comfortable by giving the required dose of drugs and monitor the patients E G, pulsate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure through out the procedure

making the surgeon to concentrate on the surgery. We ensure that the patient is safe and discharged home. Who can be given anaesthesia and what is the preparation done before? All age group patients from children (just born) to elderly can be given anaesthesia. Only the dosage and drugs are titrated and changed according to patient’s medical condition. All patients are thoroughly examined before with certain questionnaire and all medical history will be taken. Patient has to come fasting for any anaesthesia. What are the side effects of anaesthesia? There r no major side effects of anaesthesia when administered by experienced doctor. But there may be drug reactions, delayed recovery in few patients. And in patients with underlying cardiac, renal, neurological, lungs problems and in pregnant ladies drugs should be carefully titrated and monitored. When nerve blocks are given there may be nerve weakness which is only temporary and recovery will be complete. What are the myths about anaesthesia? There are a lot of misconceptions that if we take an injection in the back we will have back pain and headache for life... this is not true at all. With advanced technology and fine needles like 27G there is no injury to the back bone, ligaments or neural tissues Lot of them are scared to take whole body anaesthesia as they have heard stories that they have not returned back every patient has a different response. With advanced newer drugs and gases, Anaesthesia is safe in experienced hands. Are there any risks in going under anaesthesia often? In a normal person with no other medical problem no risks in multiple exposure of anaesthesia. But if the patient has other co existent medical conditions than the need for surgery has to be assessed and drugs titrated accordingly Why is it that before giving anaesthesia one asks about whether the patient belongs to certain community?? Yes, in certain communities like Vysyas it is proven that by Burt they lack an enzyme in their blood circulation which eliminates certain anaesthetic drug and if that drug is given to them there will be prolonged action and delayed recovery from anaesthesia --so that drug is avoided. What is the anaesthesia given to a pregnant lady for the purpose of normal delivery? This technique is known as LABOR ANALGESIA, which is a Boon to all pregnant ladies who are ready to deliver. After the labour pains start, we place a catheter at the back of the parturient ( in the epidural space) and local anaesthetic drugs are given in diluted and titrated doses so that the patient has pain relief and no motor block. That’s why this is known as WALKING EPIDURAL where in patient can walk and do normal activity with the catheter behind and drugs. Wing given. When the labour progresses the dose can be increased and the patient knows only the pressure more than the pain making the whole process of delivery bearable and a pleasant experience. Gulaal Creations By Aakansha Agrawal

“Hailing from a traditional jeweller family in Rajasthan, I had always seen women around me wearing clothing with beautiful colours and endless prints. As the creative head for our jewellery company, I was travelling the globe extensively and while the international designs and silhouettes were catchy and trendy, I always wanted to see them in Indian fabrics, prints and the myriad colours. Back home, I was constantly struggling to find a clothing label that made contemporary designs with western silhouettes in quality fabrics at an affordable price. I know many people who like the designs of high street brands but loath the synthetic feel of the fabric. I knew that for many of us, the feel of the clothing is equally important as the look of it. The response so far has been very positive. Our customers give reviews what we had always hoped for - good quality at affordable price. In fact you know you are heading in the right direction once you start getting repeat customers - that’s when you know that you have been successful in establishing trust with them. We enjoy the process of creating each design (inputs are welcome at every stage as we want our garments to be comfortable and practical too) hence there is lots of love that goes into manufacturing each piece. The difference lies in the fact that our garments are priced the same as market however, there is no synthetic element involved in our garments. We try and make sure that Indian textiles and crafts reach our customers at affordable price instead of something that they buy once and can’t afford the next time. What’s next: Having started with block prints, we are now looking forward to expanding towards Ikats. We would love to introduce a new craft every couple of years to our collection. Gentleman’s Community Karan Bangera quit his day job working for a men’s luxury grooming brand. He was looking to explore the men’s fashion space. “I wanted to bring something unique to the table for men’s accessories. I felt that there was a culture shift and men were being more experimental and open about their ways of dressing. The popup/flea market space in 2014 was dominated with brands catering to women only. The men were neglected. I thought of jumping in to fill the gap. I wanted to bring back the classic elegant men’s style with a twist. I started off with vintage timepieces, cufflinks, lapel pins, brooches and lot of vintage eyewear; sourcing products mainly from Europe and the United States through online listings and my personal travels. The main purpose is to satisfy the urban gent with vintage accessories that were superiorly hand crafted back in the day, products that had a story to it, items that had lovely patina and aging to it and certainly a collection that they wouldn’t find in a mall. I started the brand just for the kick, because I wanted to do something fun and different. But, it’s gone to a lot more than that. People are hooked on to the Vintage Sunglasses I curate. I have had 2 international collaborations with grooming brands like Sauvecito and JS Sloane. I have also collaborated with local fashion designers and sourced vintage accessories for couple of Bollywood films like Raaes and Rangoon and also loads of personal sourcing for celebrities and fashion forward people. Looking forward this year, I plan to extend my collection and collaborations with Dubai. I have moved and now live here full time. I also plan to design and produce my own line of eyewear later this year; classic designs inspired by frames from the 40’s to 60’s era. A Full fledge website is in the pipeline as well. I will be traveling to India back and forth for pop up events because I love the personal interactions and telling the story”, he explains. Nenita Praveen - Bharatanatyam Nenita’s journey in the field of Bharatanatyam began at the tender age of 5. Over the years, her love for Bharatanatyam grew from mere classes to a spiritual experience which has molded the person she is today. Through her schooling and college, she followed a strict routine of learning and practicing dance. While working as an Architect, she also pursued Masters in Bharatanatyam through distance education. She is trained in Bharatanatyam under Guru Smt. Rajeswari Sainath for 20 years in Hyderabad. After this, she went to Trivandrum to explore dance and movement under the guidance of Daksha Sheth in 2014 under whom she was trained in the basics of Kalaripayattu and Silambam. She has also been a practitioner of Yoga for the past ten years. She performed in various cities in India, in noted Sabhas and Festivals under both her Guru’s and also performed with the Daksha Sheth Dance Company in Shanghai, Bangkok and Dubai. With the company, she had the honor of performing for our prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and ten other heads of state on two occasions. They also performed for the Women Members of Parliament of India as part of the BRICS Summit. The arduous training under both her Guru’s has strengthened her fundamentals in dance and music. She started teaching in Hyderabad in 2016 so she could share her experiences and learn further. In her classes, students not only learn the intricacies of this ancient art form but also learn to understand their body in stillness and movement - bringing in a holistic approach to dance - as dance is not just a movement but a language in motion. Apart from being a teacher, she is a freelance dancer working with The Daksha Sheth Dance Company from Trivandrum and Raadha Kalpa based out of Bangalore. She also freelances as an architect & heads the marketing for a start-up, Firefly automation, which is a company from Hyderabad that is developing smart automation products to improve energy efficiencies of homes and cities. She owes her achievements to her Guru’s, her mother - who has been her topmost critic till date, her father, her brother and her closest friends. All of them have constantly encouraged and supported her through the ups and down in this field and continue to do so.

SPECIAL

Age: 30 Witty Guy whose Lightning Fast! (Choreographer) Charges: Depends on my mood, if you are good its free, if you are bad its 7 times ! What do you love about dance? I love everything about dance; the fact that it’s an art contributing to a healthy and happy life. I think it’s the best celebrated thing that could ever exist after music .Dance is my favorite stress-buster. I have never felt that I’m working even when I am at work maybe because I’m passionate enough, but, I like the part where it rejuvenates me and puts aside everything else when I connect with music and the flow.

Dance as the narration of a magical story; that recites on lips, illuminates imaginations and embraces the most sacred depths of souls. Choosing dance as a career is not an easy step to take in a country like ours where it is just looked upon as a hobby or a pass time yet some people chose it as an career and followed it up with persistent in spite of all the odds.

What are the styles you prefer? I love all the forms of dance and I can do quite a few but personal favorites are urban and Bollywood. I do this style called bolly swag where I fuse a lot of swag in Bollywood moves and make choreography on Bollywood songs; you can watch some of my videos on YouTube to understand the interpretation. What kind of weddings do you prefer? As long as it’s not my own wedding, anything else works! I have enjoyed choreographing Sindhi and Punjabi weddings the most, so I think I prefer them as they are quite open to creativity, song choices, and ideas. They are also quite participative and enthusiastic about their sangeet performances. I have never had attendance issues with them! All time favorite music? Play me any Salman , Govinda , Akshay Kumar from the 90’s and you will see a different side to me altogether. However, if you are asking about what artist I love the most it has to be Michael Jakson, because his music is evergreen and every song is different from the other. I also enjoy listening to retro music, I think there’s something about these classics and I wish that era comes back. Why did you start dancing or teaching? I was good at it right from the start. As a 7 years old kind, when I performed for the first time, everyone was too happy to watch me; so, I continued. It grew on me each day and I was the happiest when I would dance. About teaching dance? I love teaching and that is why I started teaching. I started training young and got good with time. People requested me to teach their kids, that’s how it began in 2002 and by 2005, I was teaching adults. By 2007, I had performance batches at the studios and then by 2013 I had my own studios. It’s been fun. I was also working at an investment banking firm but somehow I would skip socializing and utilize weekends to dance and teach. I would never let anything stop me from doing what I loved to do. So, I made sure no matter what, I will make time to dance. I enjoy the energy exchange the most in my classes, the happiness, the vibe, the passion and the grace. Trying to sync the body with music through movement is one of the best experiences. Also, I wanted to help people get better at their passion. So, I chose to teach, and I have been thoroughly enjoying it ever since. What made you come in this business and start your own studio? I have never thought of it as business. I do it purely because I enjoy doing it. The day I stop enjoying it, I may leave it too (that’s never going to happen though…hahaha). Having said that, it stands as a business too and one of the reasons why I am in the business is because people coerced me to purse it because they felt I was good at it and there was constant motivation from friends and colleagues. I never wished to pursue dance as a career and hence, I was working full-time and dancing when I was free, but there was a point where dance picked up well for me. So, I went all out then. But it wasn’t easy initially, maybe that pushed me to try harder and work to get better. So, the drive to be the best made me stick around long and work harder. I love the part where I receive messages, comments, and mails everyday from people around the world who seem to enjoy my work. So, as of today, I feel blessed that I’m in the business and my choices weren’t that bad. TULIP - APRIL, 2017 39

That’s something I can say through my personal experience. All time favorite music? I love all the kinds of music. Any music which makes me feel good and increases my love for dance will do. I would still prefer Indian music and Michael Jackson. Why did you start dancing or teaching? When I was young, I watched a lot of dance movies and started liking the way their body moved on the rhythm and beats of the music. I somehow managed to teach myself those moves just by observing keenly and following them. When I was 8 years old, I always aspired to be a choreographer as I could imagine myself dancing in my head whenever I listened to music. I took it as something fun to do at the very start, but then, I fell in love with it and got serious about it and dedicated myself to turning my passion into a career. What made you come in this business and start your own studio? “SPREAD HAPPINESS THROUGH DANCE” is something I believe in, bringing out the creative potential of people through dance is amazing. Dance is a divine harmony of mind, body and soul. My mission is to provide an enriching dance experience to end number of people through performance and classes in a gentle and safe environment that inspires excellence.

JEGATHA MURALIDHARAN A Tamil native but entirely brought up in Goa and moved to Hyderabad about 5 years back, Jegatha Muralidharan is an architect by profession while dance has always remained her first love. She is trained in classical dance forms - Bharatnatyam (3yrs) & Kathak (9ys). During college, she was exposed to the night life in Goa and the entire clubbing scene where she realized her love for Hip-Hop and Freestyle Dance genres. A project in her final year thesis - Designing an international Dance academy - gave her wider exposure on other dance forms as well; including Latin & Ballroom styles. After taking a crash course in all of it (to understand and design spaces as part of the thesis) she was surprisingly offered the instructor Tag. That’s it, there was no turning back. She became a part of the core team of one of the most popular Dance Groups in Goa and got the fame factor in due course. She always had a secret wish to take Salsa to another level, but could not since there were no trainers in Goa at the point. Eventually, she stumbled upon one of her students then who wanted to do the same. Thus, begun our self learning journey..! We self trained in Salsa together and in the 2nd attempt, won the Semi-pro championship in the biggest international Salsa Festival held in India, becoming the first couple in GOA to have won a major championship. (There are Major Latin Festivals that take place in India every year). That’s where one gets more training from the international artists who are invited there. The fire to win on her 2nd attempt was so much that she quit her job as a senior architect. Post that, the Salsa scene leaped tremendously in Goa and the duo took Salsa in Goa a big way. Around the same time, she discovered Zumba Fitness. Eventually, she happened to bump into her now-husband Karthik, who is from Hyderabad, at another Big Salsa Festival that was organized in Goa. That prompted her to move to HYD and realized that there was no Zumba in the city. This was the time when she started promoting Zumba along with Karthik in a big way being the first ones to do so in about 20 centers with the biggest team in the city doing in almost all the major Gyms & corporate under our brand DANCJOCKEY. They also introduced Zumba in the Night club concept being the first ones to do Fitness parties. After this, another major achievement was being selected as the First Zumba® Jammer (ZJ) from India where she was invited to Zumba® Finess llc , Miami US for the training. She has been a ZJ for 3yrs now and the journey as been amazing. She is also a Reebok Fitness athlete. (She represents the brand.) After the inception of the new dance form - KiZOMBA, she enrolled into the Teachers Training certification program. After a year, along with her current dance partner, she went on to learn from various instructors and became Asia KIZOMBA champion last year along with winning professional Salsa Solo Female title. Currently she is the only one promoting KIZOMBA on a large scale in the city also conducting KIZOMBA Special Afro-Latin Socials in a well-known club in the city. AchievementsShe is a Zumba® Jammer doing multiple trainings and Masterclasses across the nation. She also runs multiple Zumba® sessions in the city under our company DANCJOCKEY. They also do an annual fitness event - HYDERABAD FITNESS CARNIVAL. They conduct Kizomba Sessions in the city and across the nation. She also runs a PULP PRESSERY along with 2 other partners on board. Achievements in Zumba world She was selected as the first ZUMBA JAMMER India in 2013. She has been an active ZJ since then. Her achievements in the Latin world- Professional Female Salsa champion IIDC 2016. Asia Open Kizomba champions at IIDC 2016. Professional Bachata couple 1st Runner up India international Dance congress 2015. Professional Salsa Solo Female 1st runner up - India international Dance congress 2012. Professional Salsa Solo Female 2nd runner up - Goa international Latin Festival 2011. Semi-pro Salsa champions - at India international Salsa congress 2010. LYO FLORALS ™ – Forever Memories, is a premier Flower Preservation Company in India, based at Hyderabad, established in August 2016 with Dr.Mahalakshmi Reddy as the Founder and Managing partner. Flowers meet the emotional touch while sharing with people. So far, we have been seeing all flowers withering before our eyes, whether it meets the sentiments of wedding, anniversaries, birthdays, Mother’s Day or even close family events. This concept is from the western world, where the flowers are preserved and serve as lasting memories. The mission of this company is to create awareness about flower preservation; offer an innovative and personalized gifting solution for all occasions and customization of sentimental flowers of weddings, engagements etc. How did it start? Who doesn’t love flowers? Flowers have always been special. My intent was to make a flower last forever. We now have a patented technology for preservation of flowers. Understanding the potential of this technology and knowing my expertise in this area, Mrs.Rama Devi, Chairperson of Association of Lady Entrepreneurs, ALEAP- India, motivated me to establish this innovative research into an enterprise and train the young entrepreneurs for meeting the future demand of the public. My passion and perseverance to continue my research interest, made me start this venture which also gives me an opportunity to keep myself engaged after my retirement. How has the journey been so far? I am happy with the progress. We have well established a workshop with essential facilities, resources, and welltrained staff to meet customer’s demand. My friends and guests are well-wishers for my products at present. They found the LYO Florals products as innovative and ideal gifts for many occasions. So far, I have catered to clients from Hyderabad who have been offering recurring business for my products. It’s interesting to work on customized products and mementos for various occasions such as New Year, Baby Shower, Wedding Event, Birthdays and Special keepsakes for corporate segment. The feedback of the receivers was amazing. It throw’s challenge on creating an innovative design for different occasions. The customizations of flowers and frames desired by the clients make my work extremely exciting. What is your new collection all about? Recently, based on the requirements from one of our customers, we have come up with creations of decorating idols with Lyophilised flowers. The idea behind this is my own family who has deep roots in design and architecture. My inspiration comes from my father-in-law, who is a basically a temple designer, who supports my venture as he is totally convinced about my design creations. We are currently developing gifting solutions for Housewarming ceremonies, wedding collections, festival collections, interior artifacts, Corporate Gifts. Our web page displays the complete products line-up which gets updated every month with new products. Bathakkamma is a flower festival that is celebrated extensively in Telangana. We propose to come with new creations for this occasion. Tell us about the most trending flowers for the season? Now the colour trend is showing up in a big way in all events. People want flowers to go with the event theme and color. When the event

designers state the color theme and choice of flowers used for the event, LYO FLORALS can develop innovative designs to meet the requirement. We can also create interior accessories for home and office interiors and commercial establishments like hotels, malls, hospitals to go with the colour trend and interior theme. Tell us the specialty about your flowers? So far, we have never had a venture for floral preservation in our country, as there is no technology available for long preservation natural flowers. The company itself is named as LYO FLORALs as flowers are uniquely developed with advanced preservation using Lyophilisation technology. For us, every flower that goes into lyophilizer is processed with special treatment methods that are customized to the color, texture, sheen and appearance. The flowers are further dehydrated with low temperature and controlled vacuum pressure. The process involved for flower preservation is elaborate. It takes 10-15 days for creating lyophilised flowers and every product is hand-crafted. The designers then work for creating a utility to these flowers by developing unique designs for different occasions. We have standard designs and customized designs for different occasions. We take additional care to prevent damage from external heat, light, humidity, dust and pests, by giving right post-treatments and are then in sealed in glass bowls and air-tight frames, so that they retain their properties forever. However, it is mandatory to not to expose these flowers to extreme heat, light as they can fade, as they are still organic. What inspires you? “Natural beauty of Flowers”. What is next for you? I intend to expand the Lyo Florals’ product line to a larger customer group. As of now, I have been working on the designs which are feasible and would attract customers. I intend to work on many more challenging projects which can help me build my competencies and capacities that drive the quality to utmost perfection. I would like to extend my customer base and make Lyo florals the most recalled brand for gift and souvenir solutions. How to make a smart real estate investment? Real estate market is a place for sellers and as such buying is somewhat tough here. Fluctuating property prices, interest rates, location crisis, and many other factors make it difficult for buyers to invest in real estate. However, this does not mean that there isn’t a good house for you to own; you just need to think and strategize things by putting your foot into a real estate investor’s shoes and plan things according to the current market status. Investing in real estate has been a smart way to save money & secure one’s future and with the IT domain booming in various cities in India, the need to invest has become a necessity for all the hard workers to reap good benefits when in need. The upcoming Silicon Valley of India, Hyderabad, is here at your service, for all the real estate options you want to look into. So, invest in Hyderabad and be assured that your moneybags are sowed right.

Sushma Reddy

Director of Marketing & Sales, Aditya Homes The best area to invest would be Kokapet & Gandipet. For accessibility & pricing, it is very ideal because it is peaceful and affordable. Other cities don’t have much scope to invest because of the skyrocketed prices. We shall see more of interest coming from investors now. It is no doubt the best Indian city in terms of the quality of living for the third time in a row.

Did the formation of Telangana affect Hyderabad? On the basis of prolonged uncertainty over the last few years, it was expected that the creation of Telengana would usher a stable policy regime into Hyderabad. However, it is evident that the kind of clarity that is needed to fully revive sentiments is still to come. However, it is not practical to expect overnight results – the successful creation of a new state and the revision of administrative machinery take time. It makes no sense to harbor unrealistic expectations and come to any premature conclusions at this

point. On the plus side, the new state has a new party with a dynamic chief minister who is very conversant and involved with the ground realities. Both the party and the government are determined to make Hyderabad a crown jewel for Telengana in terms of new initiatives and developments. This involves building confidence, providing stability – and, obviously, attracting investments.

Tips to Invest: Right location Before investing in property, the home buyer should study the infrastructure of the area; both existing and planned. A good locality also has access to various amenities and enjoys good connectivity to other parts of the city.

The Best Areas to invest right now: Madhapur-Gachibowli: This stretch of land became popular after various areas near the HiTech twin towers became host of major companies such as Google, Facebook, etc. and eventually got overcrowded by every small and large scale establishment trying to make their impression. This area is a premium residential area closest to the airport and enjoys a good connectivity feature. Basic amenities are available and accessible for a large part of the day; thanks to the IT lifestyle nearby.

Reduced amount of mortgage When investing in a property, it is advisable that you fund the bulk of the investment yourself and keep the loan bucket light. A reduced amount of loan results in reduced additional costs, as well as fewer risks.

Kukatpally: The area spanning from Kukatpally until Nizampet, which is also one the largest residential areas in the country, is a still a hot cake for buyers and builders alike regardless of how old the locality has been. Thanks to its closeness to the IT sector and low property rates, many people who have invested around a decade ago still reap good benefits. It is well equipped with all amenities and transportation, making it a budgeted option, to invest in. Miyapur: As this area is adjacent to the Kukatpally stretch and also falls in the Greater Hyderabad region, it is safe to assume that the land is up for grabs. Also to be noted here, is that unlike Kukatpally which gives the onlookers a wide range of options, Miyapur is more popular for either plots or large apartments attracting people who like to have a slightly more urban home in the outskirts. This area falls on lesser populated state highway and hence not all the amenities are nearby. That being said, its proximity to the IT corridor and other public sector industries makes it a popular choice for investors.

Enhanced rental value To get a good rental value, keep the property prim and proper. For instance, keep it equipped with latest appliances, have well-painted walls, well-maintained bathrooms and kitchens, among others. Areas that can withstand market uncertainty At times when the market is facing uncertainty, invest in areas that are still looking up. These are likely to be least affected by uncertainties in the market. Maintain funds & analyze profitability Maintain funds & analyze profitability When planning to invest in property, ensure that you maintain a proper cash flow. Also, see if you could make the property more valuable by renovating it.

Jubilee Hills-Banjara Hills: Residential prices in these areas, which are Hyderabad’s most premium locations, are still significantly lower than those being quoted in the suburbs of Mumbai and Delhi. Here are some of the existing projects where high-profile residents currently aspire to live in these locations, which also see the highest demand from expatriate HNIs. In terms of affordability, the price range for most of these projects is very attractive.

Rohit Reddy

Founder of Signature Developers Hyderabad is one of the best places to invest in right now; especially around the Banjara Hills area. If you have the kind of budget as expected, then nothing like it! When compared to the other cities, Hyderabad is an ideal place to buy a property. Of course, it has been rated as one of the best cities to live too, thereby; one can expect the prices to shoot up very soon. In fact, there are areas where the land is quite expensive. If you are looking for something affordable, then, the outskirts of the city is also a great option to invest your money into. With new rules about the property, one can expect a lot of change in this field.

Moghny Khan

MD at Maqdoom’s big mall As a buyer, I would go by Gachibowli, which is the best area to invest and buy a property. I believe it’s high time we get textiles, medicine, parks and lots more so that the city also has a great amount of development on the outskirts of the Hyderabad. TULIP - APRIL, 2017 49

Ice Cream: You are never too old for ice cream. It’s fine if you still have a soft spot for the scoop in the cone that you grew up eating. We know that feeling! Whether it’s the hip Hot Chocolate Sundae or the retro Banana Split, digging into sweet sugary goodness brings back memories of summer. So, where exactly did it come from? With Gelato in Italy, Ice-Cream in America and Kulfi in India, the history of these frozen confections is obscure. Some say that Marco Polo introduced icecream to Italy. Certain biblical passages trace its origin to iced drinks that were enjoyed by King Solomon. Even Alexander the Great of ancient Greece is known to have loved frozen drinks flavored with honey or wine. The Romans, on the other hand, started preparing ice-creams when ice was collected and stacked in ‘ice houses’ (straw covered pits). It was in the 17th century that we saw a change in the way desserts were served and eaten. That’s when sorbets were invented in Naples. It’s during this time that frozen desserts became popular. However, the milk based ice cream is known to be a Chinese invention. The emperors of the Tang Dynasty are believed to have been the first to eat ‘a frozen milk-like confection’. It was made using buffalo or cow milk, flour along with camphor that was added for flavor. The mixture was poured into metal tubes and kept in an ice pool until frozen.

Ice Cream Can Betray Our Personality

Our favorite ice cream flavor can explain something important about us. A study has found it can reveal the kind of personality we have. The ones fond of vanilla flavor were more likely to be impulsive and idealist, chocoholics were dramatic and flirtatious, while Rocky Road lovers were good listeners. Praline ‘n Cream fans are loving and supportive.

Party Hat, Häagen-Dazs

In the study, conducted by Baskin Robbins ahead of the National Ice Cream Month, tried to identify how some ice cream flavors may suggest about individual personalities. They uncovered quite a few surprising finds. For instance, they found that people who prefer Rainbow Sherbet are more pessimistic than you would think, in spite of the flavor’s bright taste profile, and that those who prefer Rocky Road are actually very good listeners. And, the ones preferring Mint Chocolate Chip tend to be argumentative.

Summer staples that I can’t do without, how I use them and how they feel on my skin”! Kama Ayurveda Both the hand and foot cream are super luscious and luxurious which is why I only use them at night. They are like magic. You wake up with super soft skin in the morning. I personally prefer the fragrance of the foot cream over the hand cream because the hand cream has a bit of cardamom in it which I’m not very fond of but that’s a personal preference. I do love how they both leave my skin. Lavender Water This is what I carry in my big bag whenever I step out of the house. I spray it on my face and neck usually when it gets really hot. The Breitling DC-3 kicks off its great world tour Seventy-seven years to the day since its first flight, the Breitling DC-3 has kicked off the great journey that it will be undertaking right around the planet between March and September 2017. A new accomplishment for this legendary airplane that has marked the history of aviation forever. On March 9th 1940, the twin-engine propeller-driven Douglas DC-3 that now flies under Breitling colors made its maiden flight in the United States. Three days later, it was delivered to American Airlines. Hired out to the army from 1942 to 1944, it was subsequently used by various North American companies. Bought back in 2008 by pilot Francisco Agullo and a group of friends with Breitling’s support, and then restored, this veteran in perfect flying condition has since taken part in many aeronautical shows as well as events held by the brand. In 2017, Breitling has decided to launch its DC-3 on a great world tour in stages punctuated with various events and participations in airshows. The “Breitling DC-3 World Tour” officially kicked off at a dedicated press conference held in Geneva on March 9th. Francisco Agullo presented the project along with the program. After the Balkans, the Breitling DC-3 will head for the Middle East and India, followed by South East Asia, China and Japan, where it has received a special invitation to take part in the Iwakuni “Friendship Day Air Show”. It will then cross the ocean to begin a grand tour of the United States, prior to returning to Europe via Greenland and Iceland and completing its journey in September at the Breitling Sion Airshow 2017 in Switzerland. At 77 years old, the Breitling DC-3 is the oldest airplane to undertake a round the world tour and this new claim to fame will be one more to add to the already long list of its achievements. Breitling’s objective in organizing the Breitling DC-3 World Tour is once again to share its passion for aeronautics with a vast audience around the globe.

LABEL ISHANA

Ishana Rai Sethia had just moved to Kolkata in 2015 from Hong Kong where she was working in Financial Services. She was then exposed to the weavers and karigars of Bengal and was blown away by their dedication to keep their craft and their tradition alive. “I decided then that I needed to tell their story. I come from a family of very strong women - my mother, my mother in law - everyone has an identity of their own and so I wanted to be part of that movement and that energy. So here I was a recruiter and ‘people watcher’ by training fascinated by the craftsmen of Bengal and excited to tell a story as a young girl in India. I decided to design clothes for women on the go - who wanted to be stylish and wanted to make a statement. This is how LABEL ISHANA was born. We, the team at LABEL ISHANA feel so excited to come to work everyday because we know we are bringing joy to the life of everyone who is part of the family. Be it the women wearing our styles, our wonderful weavers in Murshidabad and Phulia, our embroiders in Ranihati, our team in the Kolkata studio - everyone. We want to continue to make beautiful and significant styles continue to share the story and perhaps even design for men in the near future! Everyday we need to learn and grow so that is what is next for us. I am inspired by multitasking superwomen who juggle so many things in life. I have no shortage of such women around me - my mother, my late Nani, my mother in law, my grand mother in law, my production head’s wife, my best friend, my assistant, my doctor, my professors from college - oh my God these women can do it all without breaking a sweat and with huge smiles on their faces! They inspire me and my designs,” she explains. Email: hello@labelishana.com Contact: 9748859853 Website: www.labelishana.com

MOVIES Movie Reviews

Badrinath Ki Dulhania Shashank Khaitan (after having directed HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA) springs up yet another winner in the form of BADRINATH KI DULHANIA, a film that sees him improved immensely as compared to his last film. On the whole, BADRINATH KI DULHANIA is a beautifully textured love story and an enjoyable entertainer that wins you over and keeps you hooked right till the end. At the Box-Office, it will be a sure-shot success.

Logan Make no mistake, Logan earns its tears. If Jackman and Stewart are serious about this being their mutual X-Men swan song, they could not have crafted a more heartfelt valedictory. Director Mangold drags [Wolverine] - much older, if not much wiser - into a Western, and ends up with the best superhero movie in recent memory.

Nenu Local On the whole, Nenu Local is a likable love story which is aimed at the youth and mass audience. Today’s younger generation will surely connect to Nani’s character and performance which is the biggest highlight of the film. If you ignore the routine story line and predictable proceedings, this film has decent fun, good songs and some light hearted entertainment which makes up for a good time pass watch.
