It was a very random decision when i subscribed to Tulip. Most of my friends were already receiving the editions every month. I did too, and was one of the best decisions ever taken. From being a fashion blogger to managing multiple brands as a Fashion Marketing Manager, Tanusha Bajaj wears many hats and pulls it off in style. She also styles looks for celebrities, blogs about fashion and happens to be an engaging writer. With the optimism that would cheer even a naysayer, she signs off saying, “I want to do many more things with my life that I constantly feel like I’m running out of time. I can’t wait to run and chase everything that comes my way and make the most of it.”
Tell us something about yourself? I am a media and journalism graduate. I’ve been blogging since I was in high school and now we run a media and PR company where we help brands grow using the right platforms in the most organic and efficient way. I’ve also been working with the Label Bazaar for three years now and it’s been nothing less than an overwhelming experience to watch it transform from an upcoming fashion and lifestyle exhibition to the most talked about exhibition in the country. I also enjoy working behind the camera and styling individuals for brand shoots and I’ve been lucky to be able to assist a celebrity stylist. What inspired you to start blogging? 20 DECEMBER, 2018 - TULIP
Science was my major in high school and I realised how much I hated it. This kinda led me to find what I actually wanted to do. I also had really supportive people around me who insisted that I put up my work out there. I’ve always been inspired by fictional characters like Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw and Sophia Bush as Brooke Davis who were so passionate about fashion and were such strong individuals with a personal style. Somewhere between trying to find my way in the field, the blog started as a foundation and it has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. What is the funniest thing that has happened with you recently? Travel has been another interest I’ve been extremely passionate about. It teaches you so much about individuals belonging to various cultures and their belief systems that are so different from our own. It compels you to be open to the idea that people live, dress and believe differently than you do and that’s okay. I’ve always been trying to amalgamate travel in my work and even though it is an expensive affair, I save up for these experiences and not materials. The funniest moment I faced (it wasn’t funny back then) was when my Australian visa got rejected. And God did it hurt! We were so excited and we had booked flights, the stay and everything else without considering the possibility that it wouldn’t work out. The worst part is everything was non refundable and it was a lesson learnt the hard way but I guess we have made peace with it to look back and laugh at our stupidity. What is the proudest moment in your career? It’s great to get recognition from other media houses, this interview for instance is really overwhelming. But I think the reaction when your friends and family spot your work on magazine covers and newspapers and the fact that they’re probably more excited and happy for the way things have worked out for you is something I really live for. I’ve been blessed with a lot of supportive and affectionate people in my life who I am grateful for and more than myself, I want to work towards making them proud.

What do you do in your free time when you’re not working? I am just another girl next door so you’ll find me doing regular things like hanging out with my friends, binge watching shows on Netflix or sleeping-in all day and reading poetry. I also enjoy other girly business like getting my nails done or going to the spa. But for most part, I dedicate my free time planning my next get away with my best friend. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? I don’t know. I honestly don’t. I don’t plan ahead of time and I never planned that things would turn out like this but I am so glad that they did. I think I’m just going to go with the flow. Hustle and work hard. Then travel. Because that’s what I enjoy the most. And who knows maybe I’ll be chasing taxis in the busiest cities or trek mountains or go on an expedition to find caves. I don’t know where I’m going but the future really excites me and I’m looking forward to what life has in store for me.

One habit you would like to change about yourself? Im always running late everywhere I go. So I’m aiming to start being Punctual. Your most recent fashion purchase? My cat eye sunglasses. Where would your next vacation be? Istanbul, hopefully. What is the one fashion trend you’d like to change? Men wearing coloured pants! Not everyone can really pull it off.

As the popular saying goes- the end of the year brings about a chance for the start of something new and new beginnings. Every tomorrow is an outcome of what happens today and the beauty of it is that today is happening all the time. In the past 12 months, we’ve seen some absolute highs in the city which again is a chief reason why Hyderabad is the best city ever! IKEA Launches in India-Hyderabad
In what I would call the biggest milestone of 2018, IKEA of Sweden opened its first Indian store starting in Hyderabad on August 9th, 2018; an investment of 1,000-crore, with affordable furniture and home décor which was speculated to lure shoppers from one of the world’s fastest growing economies. It was spread over 400,000 sq ft and the outlet boasted to be one of the biggest there was. It had been ruling the foreign markets for more than a decade and the company expected to welcome as many as 6 million visitors a year in its first store in Hyderabad, India. The showroom has some 7,500 products, out of which they claimed that around 1,000 will sell for less than 200 each. Hyderabad was the first of 25 stores IKEA planned to open across the country by 2025. IKEA launched in India almost 12 years after it took upon itself to study India and Indian markets. The store boasts of its epic feature- a 1,000seat restaurant one of the largest across IKEA’s 400-strong global chain that serves a mix of Nordic and local dishes, including biryani for 99 a plate. Chicken and vegetarian meatballs, for 129 a serve replaced the traditional Swedish ones made with beef and pork. Their claim- “IKEA has never failed; it’s never closed a single store in its history,” is something that is developing quickly and we wouldn’t bat an eye before acceding to it, given the humungous response the store has garnered over just a 38 DECEMBER, 2018 - TULIP
few months. The launch saw around thousands of excited shoppers accumulating outside the gates to shop and get a glimpse of the store. As the store opened on August 9, a staggering 40,000 customers visited IKEA’s Hyderabad store. The crowd started pouring in a little after the launch at 11 am. IKEA staff was initially struggling to manage the entry point. A video of the same had also gone viral on social media. The situation got so out of hand that there was a stampede like situation inside the store and huge traffic jams outside it. The road leading up to the 400,000 sq ft store at HITEC City in Cyberabad was jam-packed. Obviously the situation calmed down by a trivial percentage in the days following the launch, but even today IKEA is always packed with eager shoppers.

Sensation Hyderabad
Perhaps one of the most looked forward to events that took the city by storm, world-renowned electronic music event; Sensation Rise 2018 transformed Hyderabad into the world’s biggest nightclub with a spine-tingling show full of fantasy. Originating in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Sensation’s RISE is said to symbolize breaking free from the worries and boundaries of daily life, letting go, and rising above yourself to ultimate euphoria. Sensation toured over 33 countries and has entertained more than 2 million visitors. Sensation has always had a special place in Hyderabad right from the premier edition back in 2016 and was a night to remember with a mass of white swaying to some amazing tracks played by renowned artists. This year it was nothing short of spectacular, with artists like Nicky Romero, Mr. White and Robin Schulz, it was one hell of a treat for all EDM lovers. The Sensation dance music festival hosted RISE in India on 27th October 2018 at the Gachibowli stadium. It had over 30,000 attendees who
enjoyed the festival that literally made your heart throb, courtesy the unbelievable bass system! The aura and atmosphere brew a vibe of togetherness, ensuring that the diverse fans feel part of the larger experience, irrespective of their backgrounds and origins. It definitely was the biggest highlight of the year and has left us with some awesome memories that we look forward to reliving in the future.
Bryan Adams
Speaking of concerts and music festivals, another concert that the city went bonkers for was the Bryan Adams concert. Blending in a flurry of old and new hits, Canadian singer Bryan Adams rocked Hyderabad with his brand of feel-good pop a few months ago. Bryan returned to India after nearly a decade with a five-city tour across Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Performing here in Hyderabad to a few thousand-odd screaming, teary fans, the 58-year-old held the audience in trance for over two hours with his distinguished raspy voice. He was dressed in his trademark black tee and jeans. He kick started with Ultimate Love and then went on to perform 20 other spectacular songs without any break. This concert was typically like a trip down nostalgia lane as many reminisced their childhood memories that came alive with every song being played. The crowd could be seen holding back their tears when songs like Heaven and Everything I do was played. This was definitely a surreal experience and a thrilling highlight that we fondly remember.

Comic con
Comic con has always been the city’s biggest pop culture event that we really look forward to. This year, it took place at the Hitex Exhibition Centre on October 13 and 14. With the varying imagination of the youth of our city, it is always a great experience. Hyderabad Comic Con kicked off with some stunning personalities. Some of the highlights were comedian Sahil Shah from East India Comedy who hopped on board, not at all a stranger to the comedic tides of Hyderabad. He was also in the city for last year’s Comic Con as well where he kept the audience’s spirits quite upbeat. Rahil Mohsin, animator and comic book artist from Bengaluru, was part of Hyderabad’s Comic Con for the first time ever. He is an illustrator for Sufi Comics which is an indie comic book. Fans who were anticipating the release of Aquaman scheduled to release this December had quite a delight with the Aquaman experience in the visually breathtaking underwater world. And not to forget the exclusive peak into the sequel of Fantastic Beasts, and an enthralling Marvel studios experience at the Marvel studios zone where fans got to engage with their favorite superstars, which proved to be a quick fix for the fans experiencing withdrawals from their beloved Marvel universe. It is an experience that keeps coming every year, but it is so special and unique and bigger and better with every passing year! This year definitely surpassed its predecessor.

Numaish
The year started with a splurge right into a shopping sesh with Numaish. Simply put, this is the mother of all malls, the Baahubali version of exhibitions. While every city in India is dotted with its own share of yearly exhibitions and haats, the Hyderabad version rates high simply because of its gigantic size and the people’s connect it boasts of. The All India Industrial Exhibition, popularly called Numaish, was held in Hyderabad on 1st January and was spanned over a stretch of 40 DECEMBER, 2018 - TULIP

The number of people it draws is huge; this year alone, it had a whopping 40,000 visitors each day, with the number going up to one lakh over weekends. 21 lakh people visited the carnival last year. There are over 2,600 stalls from all over the country and abroad and the ‘mini-India visible here is vibrant, chaotic and always ready for a bargain. Hyderabad’s tradition of Numaish began in 1938 when the idea was mooted as an annual event to promote locally made goods and was later approved by the then PM Sir Akbar Hydari. Initially called the ‘Numaish Masnuaat-e-Mulki’, it was started with 50 stalls in Public Gardens for 10 days. As Numaish gained popularity, it was extended for a month. Today it is almost a national level expo, with the sheer range of products and variety it offers. It is often said that two visits are a must to do justice to the gargantuan fair, one to check out the best bargains and the second to actually make the purchases. There is a lot to choose from: woolens from Kashmir, chikan work from Lucknow, jootis from Rajasthan, furniture and wooden carvings from Chennapattana, dry fruits from Afghanistan (this year’s biggest hit), handicrafts from the far-flung exteriors of the country (it is a handloom lover’s dream) and indigenous tribal products. It also stocks everyday products like bed sheets, upholstery, bags, bangles, accessories, electronic goods, toys, odd knick-knacks and crockery. Some mornings in a week (usually Tuesdays) are strictly for women. Added to this are the variety of street food options (think cotton candy spun from antique wheels) and carnival rides (18 big rides and 30 smaller ones, including a train which goes through the entire place) ensuring that there is something for everyone. In this place seeped in old-world charm, you could even bump into a long-lost friend or a popular city designer shopping for latkans at Numaish!

However, what pushed the event was the wider and very much present conversation around environmental clean-ups. The full proceeds from the event went towards the aggrandizement of Bhoomi Foundation, an organization that leans into giving face-lifts to the city through vibrant artwork on gaping walls and fixer-uppers to corners like bus stands. When it came time to set off the lanterns that were brought from Bengaluru, into the sky, a meaningful hush came over the crowds. In some Chinese customs, the Lantern Festival brought men and women together for the sake of relationships, but obviously, as time went on, various traditions were implemented. It was clear people united to form relationships and a silent pact for the sake of the causes at hand. So when these lanterns were set off, where do they go? After all, over 4000 lanterns wafting off into the horizon are a concern for city-folk and the GHMC. Prior to the event, clean-ups were promised and organized so there’s a chance you may not see too many laying about. Knowing the potential mess and danger to animals and people that these thousands of lanterns would bring, hundreds of eager volunteers set to work after the event closed its doors to the public, proving there’s no end to service learning for the young.
Hyderabad’s first ever dog park:
Dog Lovers in the city rejoiced as India’s first ever Dog Park opened in Hyderabad. The city finally got to witness a time when they were able to take their dogs for a walk, play, and offer them other recreational activities in spaces created just for them. It is a first in the entire country and was inaugurated in October this year. Spread across an area of 1.3 acres, this park is just perfect for every dog’s day out. Dogs finally have a space outside homes where they can relax and rejuvenate. The park has been equipped with dog training equipment, play equipment, areas for exercise, splash pool, fountain, amphitheatre, lawns, separate kennels for big and small dogs and even a clinic. The park was constructed to provide training for dogs to stay fit. The park will also address all the issues related to dogs. This park has been developed as per the international standards for dogs & dog parents, and is also certified by the Kennel Club of India. According to the minister, a small dump yard near Hotel Radisson at Kondapur has been converted into this park with a cost of ₹1.1 crore. With this park’s inauguration, dogs and dog parents have all the reasons to rejoice and smile.

Lumina Lantern Festival 2018 was most definitely an illuminating homage to the city. Cult Fit is the most recent development to join the bandwagon of fitness centers already present in the city, but why would we say it’s a highlight? Earlier in October this year, Cult Fit, along with Mind Fit and Eat Fit, a fitness and wellness brand, was launched in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad by Hrithik Roshan. This gig attracted lots of people as they were very curious to know what this was all about. Hrithik said he had invested his heart and soul in it and also curated a complete workout called HRX workout. His business partner and he were very enthusiastic about this wholesome course which enhances not just the body but also the mind and soul. Cult Fit, besides their unique workouts, also launched kitchens and a special provision called Mind Fit which they believed will give them an edge over the other fitness brands in the market. Speaking about the same, Hrithik says, “Mental health is not talked about enough. Perhaps the longest running project in Hyderabad, the Metro transit system that started its foundation way back in 2012 is finally making waves all across Hyderabad. The Hyderabad Metro is a rapid transit system, serving the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. It is in Secant Operational model. It is being implemented entirely on public-private partnership (PPP) basis, with the state government holding a minority equity stake. A 30 km stretch from Miyapur to Nagole, having 24 stations was inaugurated on 28 November 2017 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. No other rapid transit metro service in India opened for public operations on such a long stretch of 30 km. At the beginning of this year, we had PVR launch two more multiplexes in the city. Hyderabad geared up as it was then revealed that the movie tickets were being sold for only 75/- with the complete experience of a big multiplex. The new PVRs in town — PVR Next, Galleria Mall, and PVR Icon, Hi-Tech City started attracting crowds like never before. With a movie ticket priced at 75/- against 150/- at multiplexes, people could go on a movie marathon or watch backto-back movies on a budget. And what’s not to love about that? They could grab popcorn at 175/- as well. Both the PVRs had 13 screens in total while the PVR Next alone had 8 screens with a seating capacity of 1,278. According to PVR, all the screens own Dolby ATMOS digital surround sound and 4K projection system which come equipped with Next Generation 3D screen. All of this at 75/- only? People loved this deal! It lasted only for 6 months as an introductory offer, but those were most definitely the best 6 months ever! You can’t deny.

Pickle in the Christmas tree or should I say spider tree?
An ancient legend narrates the story of how a poor family dreamed of various ways in which they would decorate the tree. However, due to lack of money, they could not decorate the tree. However the children wake up to discover that spiders had spun webs of silk that had magically turned into silver and gold all around the tree branches. Since then people of Ukraine decorate the Christmas tree in Spider Webs in the hope of a miracle. Another quirky tradition to the Christmas tree is that the head of the family hides a pickle in the tree, the first person to find it gets a special present.

One of my favorites, something new and something to look forward to is a new year’s ritual where close friends come together and write a list of things they look forward to for the next year. Once the list is done, its sealed in a jar away for a year and reopened on the next new year’s eve, where they all gather around to discuss how correct they were about their prediction and goals that they wanted to achieve. This ritual is a way of bonding and ensuring that each one has something to look forward to each year.

There are two types of people in the world- Pet people and boring people. Ha ha, now don’t get me wrong. It is totally your choice if you don’t want to own a pet owing to a hundred odd reasons, but if you ever did, you would completely side me when I point out the great deal you’re missing out on by never getting to live life with a furry little paw or a fluffy little kitty! Owning a pet may seem like the most exasperating thing in the world, but on a closer look, it is so worth it. People who own a pet appear to be healthier with a great sense of self esteem and sociability. Research has proven over the years that Pet Owners are said to be a lot more conscientious and amiable. Perhaps it’s the attitude and nature of the pet itself that rubs off on them, but a pet definitely changes your life for the better. The loyalty is so great, it can never be put into mere words. They are your one true source of emotional support on a daily basis. The unconditional love of a pet reaffirms your faith in True Love which is so rare these days. 2018 has definitely been a year of Animals. With everyone tagging it as “Age of the Dog/Pupper”, we couldn’t agree more. I got the chance to talk to some cute pet lovers from around the city who were more than willing to share the immense love and joy their little (and big) bundle of joy brings them and the journey of life with their paw people.

Zeba Rashwan Founder of Zebaaish designer studio, that tends to stunning, beautiful traditional designer wear, here in the very heart of Hyderabad, Zeba Rashwan is an absolute woman of class. Reflecting her sweet and groomed personality is her adorable Persian Cat Zaara. Zeba regards herself as an absolute Animal and Nature lover. Animals according to her are the greatest source of happiness a human can find. She says there are very few things in life that can be included as a source of immense soothing and she derives her calm from her pet. I asked her if her little kitty kept her super busy in life. She sighed and said she wished it was so. The busy quotient according to her is the other way round. Her profession demands her time and she doesn’t get to share it as much as she would have preferred with her pet. But since she owns a Persian cat, she feels that they’re the easiest pets you can have. They don’t demand your attention and are super self groomed and naturally trained with every aspect of nature. Her kitty is a constant source of joy for her and she feels that the way you learn to communicate with them on day to day basis is a learning in itself. She falls back laughing as she recollects a funny incident that happened one Ramadan. Her mom was fast asleep and totally weary with the associated rituals and preparations that Ramadan usually calls for. Her cat quietly strolled into the bedroom and probably wanted to lovingly show her affection to her mother by singing a lullaby. She tiptoed to her ear and began meowing and hissing. What transpired next was her Mum’s weariness turning into shock, fear and then absolute rage as she turned into Tom and Zaara turned into Jerry, with the former chasing the latter right out of the room and all over the house! “It was hilarious”, she quips. Zeba believes that the best part about her cat Zaara is that she’s a Persian cat. She says they are are self reliant, well groomed and all you need to do is feed them on time and comb the fur so they don’t get knotty because knots are a pain to detangle. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: “You are sure to be loved back! The constant purring, cuddling, and the need to be petted is so therapeutic! My advise to anyone who is reading it- it’s a big responsibility having a pet, it’s almost like having your own baby, but the rewards are genuine and great. Be geared to visit the vet, groom, clean and cajole! You’re are guaranteed to be loved back unconditionally!”

A fitness entrepreneur and celebrity trainer by profession, double certified pre-postnatal fitness expert, sports nutrition and core training specialist, winner of the 2015-16 Devil’s Circuit, and crowned as the fittest girl in the country for that year, Sneha Desu definitely has a lot of trophies on her stand, but the one thing she treasures above them all is her Golden Retriever- ASI. As she delved into her story, she told us how she had initially been petrified of dogs, but then eventually warmed up to them as time went by. Asi was her gift to herself on her birthday to start the year on a new, liberating and selfless note. Asi is a golden retriever. She was advised by many to go with a golden, as they are the best breeds for a first timer. Her partner told her he’d be her protector for life, hence they jointly chose the name “Asi”, which means “sword” in Sanskrit. She says that phase of a growing puppy is the most demanding and challenging one. With no help at home from someone who either understands or likes dogs, it was extremely difficult the first few days to juggle training, cleaning up and playing with Asi, with her work. She had to cut down on a few clients so she could spend more time with him. It took her a lot of reading and research to understand how to look after him. With Iess than 3 hours of sleep over 2 weeks, she felt like she was looking after a newborn. The difference that Asi made to her life is immense. “As a pet owner, you learn to love without any expectation and be happy and thankful no matter what. It is an incredible feeling to love and care for a being that can’t really say anything back to you. It teaches you a lot of patience. He keeps me more than entertained, there’s never a single dull moment with him. I’ve taken immense pride in some of most ridiculous things with him, like when he peed on command for the first time or learned to bring a ball back to me. He makes me cherish and celebrate the small moments in life. He brightens up my mood and keeps me driven.”
“My day starts at 5.30am with Asi – I train him for 10 minutes 3 times a day, feed him 4 times a day, groom him and wipe him once a day, play with him for half hour 3-4 times a day, and take him out to pee every hour! I timed all my clients in a way I could be home every hour. I soon grew to love every bit of it and now, after 45 days, I’ve learned to manage my time quite well, and have gone back to taking on more clients”, she happily said. Asi never fails to leave Sneha with hilarious memories. One of the funniest initial memories she has of him was getting him used to her working out in front of him. He was baffled and confused he looked and tried to attack all her exercise equipment. And even though she did quite a few workouts with him after that, he still continues to look clueless and goes crazy whenever she’s on the grind! Since she’s a doctor turned celebrity fitness coach, one of the main reasons she chose a retriever was because of their active lifestyle. Asi didn’t disappoint her in being one fluffy energy ball. The amount of energy he exerts literally baffles her on some days. She’s basically always burning calories with the amount of running around he makes her do. She absolutely adores how intelligent he actually is. At only a few weeks old, she was able to train him to sit, stay, lay down, fetch, let go and even potty train on command. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: Knowing that they are always, always by your side – come rain, come shine. They only want one thing (apart from food), and that’s your company. Karen Bhatia Karen Campos Bhatia is a Nutritionist, exercise physiologist and Lifestyle Consultant, with not one or two, but 5 dogs! When asked about her doggies, she very cheerfully quipped about all of them. Kaiser is a black Labrador who is 11 years old, Zara is an Alaskan Huskie who is 5 years old and together they had three pups Hitchkie, Sheeba and Akira who are a product of a happy accident and are a breed of their own called Labuskies - a cross between a lab and a huskie and are just 9 months old. They originally had a litter of 5 pups and 2 were adopted by close friends but they couldn’t bear to part with the other 3 so they stayed. She says she can’t remember a time in her life where she didn’t have a dog. Growing up in a home with parents who loved dogs, they had always been her constant companions ever since. “I believe a home where children are brought up along side animals ensures that those children grow up empathetic and loving in general”, she says. Karen has her hands fulI as she has 5 dogs, 3 children and runs three organisations! Whew! But her belief in life is “You must do everything you love in the life you are blessed to have and you must find a way to do so” Food for thought, don’t you think? She also adds, “Like children, dogs are unique. Each one has a personality, strengths and weaknesses and need to be handled differently. We as a family understand that and nurture each one where they need to be. They are most often always inside the home with us so they feel loved and someone in the house is always cuddling and hanging out with them at all times because we all love them immensely. It’s a give and take, we need them as much as they need us.” When asked about how her pets have made a difference to their lives, she delightfully says “Our faces light up when we open the door of our home. No one welcomes you back home like a dog. They light up when they see us and it’s amazing how they can make me forget all my troubles. As our children grow they need us less and get more independent but the love of your pet is always with you and constant, as they always need us. When the kids leave and go on their own paths you always have something to come home to.” Her dogs have a character of their own. Kaizer-don’tmess-with-me, who is a proper alpha Male, is extremely fierce and protective of the fam. Once he warms up to you though, he’s a sweet lamb! Zara-the-regal-huskie is more a cat than a dog. She doesn’t care to be cuddled and smothered, comes to you for her hugs only when she wants to otherwise she sits apart like a regal matriarch. The three puppies are hilarious, entertaining balls of energy, super naughty and always have a trick or two up their sleeve to trouble their parents, that leave everyone in splits. The way they fill up the house with life is the best thing about them. She always wanted a home with lots of children, lots of dogs, and a man who loves dogs and feels blessed to have exactly that. Her ageing parents who live with them always have their dogs to keep them company when they aren’t home. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: The love and the loyalty. They are yours for life. They love so unconditionally and so completely. Makeup artist and Hair designer by profession and an ardent lover of dogs, Rihanna always wanted a dog in her life since she was just a teenager. But hailing from a house with strict parents who didn’t want any animals in the house, she was never able to fulfill that dream until a few years ago when her husband surprised her with her adorable little bundle of joy ‘Mr. Dolce Rawlani’. It was the first question she’d ever asked her husband about his opinion on dogs, so that she could have one after marriage. To her absolute delight and relief, he said he loved dogs like crazy! She smiles as she says that she knew she always wanted a little fur ball in her life, but what she didn’t expect was how it would change her life forever! She quotes a famous quote ‘Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened’, and says she abides by it completely. It was 14th of February 2015 when Rahul, her husband surprised her with this adorable little shih tzu. According to her, it is by far the best gift she could’ve ever dreamt of. Since then Dolce and she have been buddies for life. He accompanies her for drives, coffee and walks together. Whenever the door bell rings he is the first one to go and wait by the door for them to open it; to see who came to visit him. She adds how excited he gets whenever she’s back from somewhere and greets her with immense love and happiness, with his tail wagging at say 100 miles per hour. He is super adorable and loves binging all the time and despite serving him with proper meals he always stares back with a cute little puppy face for his mistress to feed him her food. Rihanna adds “Dolce is a crazy Mango and Potato lover and would perform all sorts of stunts to just grab a bite of these. We have trained him to shake hand, but that again is only when we have a biscuit or chewstick in hand, otherwise he doesn’t like wasting his energy”, she laughs. Dolce has changed their lives for the better and is an integral part of their family. From waking them up every morning to getting them around their day to day activities, the kind of energy he brings to their home is contagious, which is precisely why she particularly misses him whenever she’s out travelling. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: “Their unconditional love for us! I guess no one can ever escape from it once you bring these tiny tots home. He is like this little baby in the house who’s loved and pampered the most. He is like an infant who sleeps with us on our bed. Dolce loves playing around and making everyone happy wherever he goes. I feel very blessed to have a little baby like him, without who i just can’t imagine my life.
Rebecca Aishwarya A freelance photographer who specialises in weddings, portraits and pets, Rebecca Aishwarya is a vivacious girl and an ardent lover of animals. She has always been bought up among pets since she was a baby and is used to being around pets ever since. She has always had cats and dogs. At one point, she also had a tortoise, monkey, parrots and a chicken! Pretty versatile list of pets, wouldn’t you say? She currently has a cat and like most cat owner’s most popular choice, it is a Persian Kitty named Sushi. She says that the most flexible part of owning a cat is that they’re independent and are always napping so she doesn’t have a problem with leaving her at home for almost 8 hours to juggle between work and home. Sushi according to her is definitely an entertainer. She may come off snobby at first but arent all cats like that? Almost everything she does is amusing. From suddenly popping out of boxes to running around the house for no reason. With Christmas round the corner it’s tough to maintain the decorations cause one minute she’s sleeping and the next minute she’s up on the Christmas tree. Sushi’s also quite a daredevil when she has to be, apparently. She softens as she says “The best thing about sushi is she’s super loving. Cats have their own way of showing affection. Sushi knows when I’m low and comes immediately and puts her head on my lap or shoulder and looks at me with so much love in her eyes!” The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: Just the joy my sushi gives me is the most rewarding thing for me. Akash Nahata Akash Nahata is a Data Analyst who shares incredible love for pets, especially dogs. He has a golden retriever named Kiara who is an adorable big ball of golden fur! Given his crazy work schedule, he still manages to give her his time early every morning by taking her for a walk and feeding her on time. With their cuteness, also comes a huge responsibility. Giving her bath once a week and also visiting the vet is one of his absolute routines with her. Reminiscing the past and his journey with Kiara, he says that he really wants to spend more and more time with her! “I am really attached to her and it feels odd when she isn’t at home sometimes or even when I am away. During evening time, we play a lot with her to keep her active. Her birthdays are so memorable, we make sure we celebrate it every year with some adorable clothes and cut the cake. Of course, when I got her home the very first time, she was really tiny. That is something I can’t forget.” Kiara is very obedient and patient. She always looks upto them and obeys what they say. With three dogs- Cherry, a Labrador, Hugo, a Cocker Spaniel Poodle and Diva who is a beautiful Golden Retriever, Urshila wanted to have a pet all her life, but it never worked out until her elder brother and she decided to get one when we were in their mid teens. They secretly conspired to get a Labrador. It was an auspicious day for her when she brought home a little bundle of love. It was at that moment it struck her and made her realise the way a parent can love their child and be so protective and careful of them because she felt exactly the same. She was filled with these motherly instincts towards her little pet; something she harbours till date. That was Cherry, her first pet that walked into their home and made it complete with her unconditional love. It’s been eight years since she arrived in their family and is now an integral part of it. Along came another little baby after 5 years of them having Cherry- the Cocker Spaniel Poodle boy- Hugo, named so because his parents happen to be Chanel and Coco. Hugo ‘the loving thinker’ is an adorable intellectual and is called Albert Einstein as he is a deep thinker. His gaze while he is in deep thought is very intriguing and amusing to watch at the same time. One would wonder what must be going through his mind when he is in such deep thought. His expression of love is an unparalleled tangible wave of energy. He is extremely expressive, and observant about everything. She had cameras installed all over the house which would enable her to see her dogs whenever she wished and they could communicate with her too. Diva is also super possessive of Urshila and her mother. She starts growling angrily if anyone comes close. Cherry once finished some KFC buckets which were got for New Years Eve and also secretly conspires to eat all the food in the house when nobody is looking. Hugo is the best boy in the world according to Urshila. “He is beyond perfect and the most understanding and well behaved boy. He knows only to love and play and nothing else! He loves cuddles and demands them in the cutest way possible”, she croons fondly. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: They are so loving, that they make you evolve out of you self created shells of fear and doubt. No love can ever match that of a pet at home.

An actress by profession and a complete sweetheart by nature, Swathi Deekshith is just like your girl next door with a crazy love for her dogs Kizzy and Whiskey. She wasn’t always a dog lover right from the beginning but sharing your life with a dog does bring out this love you never knew you had within you. Kizzy is a 5 year old Pomeranian and Whiskey is still a 7 month old baby Shih Tzu. It was around the time when she brought Kizzy home in 2012 that she realised how much it changed her as a person, bringing out her innermost vulnerabilities and emotions. “Kizzy is a very good boy and really special to me. He’s a little cranky but is super obedient and dignified even for a dog”, she chimes. Back in 2013, Kizzy was diagnosed with a health issue which threatened his life. It was at this point that Swathi realised how much Kizzy meant to her. She was on her nerves end trying to do anything and everything in her power to not let go of her piece of heart. Thankfully he recovered and is completely healthy today. Whiskey entered her life very recently and together they form an integral part of her life. Given her profession, travel is her constant companion and is one of the reasons she doesn’t get to spend as much time as she would like to with her dogs. Nevertheless, whenever she gets the time, she makes it a point to start her mornings with her dogs, pet and pamper them for a bit and take them out for a walk. Her nightly routine calls for the very same thing as well. Although she’s super tired whenever she returns from work or gym, her face lights up the minute she sees them wagging their tails and jumping all around her in excitement at her return back home. “They’re my cuties. They obviously don’t understand that I’ve had a long stressful day and I’d like to relax but I’m glad they do what they do, because it is the most stress relieving part of my day. It is in that moment, surrounded by my two dogs that I realise, there is nothing more I need in this life. The happiness that they bring me is immense and indescribable. I can never put it in words” When she is out of the country shooting, she always makes it a point to FaceTime her dogs who never fail to contain their excitement whenever they see her on screen. She finds it really adorable that animals that can’t speak can emote in such a way that makes your heart melt. They are her babies. Her two dogs have made so much difference in her life. In the midst of her stressful work schedule, the mere thought of going back home to her dogs, their innocent, pure love is something that revives her mood and reinforces her belief in love. She fondly remembers how Whiskey brings his food bowl, puts both his paws and entire body into it and waits for his food to be served whenever he’s really hungry. “Kizzy and Whiskey never got along with each other when they first met, but today it is so amusing to see them trouble each other. Especially Whiskey, who is the crazy trouble maker, never leaves a chance to trouble his elder brother. They’re always running around the house, imitating each other. It is the most amusing part of my day”, she says. The best part about her dogs is that they’re her personal alarm clock. No matter how late or early they sleep, they wake up at 6 am sharp. They come over and nudge her until she wakes up and takes them for a walk. On the rare occasions that she doesn’t wake up, they sit there with puppy faces and moan about staying indoors. It is the cutest, funniest sight ever. The most rewarding thing about being a pet owner: It is just the way they bring out the best inside me; feelings I’ve never known, emotions I’ve never felt, energy I never knew I had and a will to do whatever it takes for my cuties. How to stick to your new year resolutions How often do we plan about achieving certain benchmarks and after a period, forget about it completely due to various reasons? What about resolutions? Same old story, right? This year, be ready to check all those off your to-do list. Here we bring to you 8 ways to help you abide by your resolutions and complete them successfully. 1. Set achievable goals: Let’s get real. You’re not gonna shed 20 kilos in one month. What I am trying to explain here is to plan to hit targets, which are within our limit. That doesn’t mean that its impossible for you to do certain tasks, it just means that each person has a saturation point and no one can work beyond that. 2. Be patient: No seed grows into a tree overnight. Hard work pays off, so you need to have patience for visible results. You can’t quit smoking the very next day. You’ve to give time to yourself to realize what you’re going to do and how. 3. Keep your scales small: Let each level of your scale comprise of just one or two milestones. For example, if you’re planning to quit smoking, take the count of everyday cigarettes from 10 per day to 6-7. You can decrease them further over the days. 4. Start with simpler aims: Give yourself time to accept the changes. Do not jump to difficult aims and end up getting angry when you’re not able to achieve them. 62 DECEMBER, 2018 - TULIP
5. Maintain notes to update your progression: Recording your progresses helps you in feeling accomplished. Make notes of every level you cross. If your resolution is to save money this year, write your expenditures and cut down all the unimportant ones. This helps you in saving money for all your future needs. 6. Do not lose confidence if you trip on some days: Falling weak some days is human tendency, and should not be dealt with in a negative way. Do not lose hope. Everyone loses out sometimes and its normal. 7. Believe in yourself: Have faith in yourself and believe that you will be able to complete your resolutions this time. Lack of confidence will make you accept and believe that you are incapable of achieving anything in life.You need to trust yourself regarding the fact that you can and will pull off all that you’ve planned. 8. Do not compare your milestones to someone else’s: Everyone has a different time of achieving things in life. Someone gets married early while someone gets a job before all his friends. I had often thought of getting fitter but neither could I arrange for the time nor did I have the confidence that I’d be able to pull off both my clinic and the gym. Last year, I made a resolution to go to the gym to gain those toned biceps. I cleared 2 hours off my schedule by changing my clinic timings. It was difficult at the start as I was already tired by the time I got to the gym. I compensated that by having protein shakes, increasing my daily appetite and sparing 10mins for meditation. 2 years down, I’m on top form now.”
S.M Pragya, Final year BDS student “When I was younger, I’d a really bad habit of using abusive words. The major reason was the fact that I got into a wrong company and I feel that is what affects you the most as a growing child. Therefore, that year I made a resolution to stop abusing and succeeded at it. Whenever I got angry or agitated over something, instead of using cuss words, I started counting numbers backwards, i.e. from 10 to 1. It helped me a lot and I still practice it when I’m frustrated. Another tendency of mine that I have stopped is partying and drinking alcohol. Being in a professional field, I felt it would be too irresponsible of me to ignore my studies for a night of partying. In addition, I drive alone a lot of times and drinking, even mildly, wouldn’t be safe. As such, I have started drinking virgin mojitos to curb my craving of drinking alcohol at social gatherings or day parties.”

Partly, because I’m too lazy to follow up on things and also as I try to look for instant results. The one thing I started abiding by since 3 years is anger management. I have often got into trouble because of my short-temper. I started resorting to spiritual methods for controlling my anger. Now, I follow the proceedings of the Prophet and move away silently from the place itself or the person I’m angry against. It helps me a lot and I’ve become much calmer now. The one resolution I always work towards and haven’t achieved till date is to tone my body and gain some muscle mass. I don’t really follow it whole-heartedly because I get tired and impatient within the first week of starting the diet. I’m pretty sure my resolution this year will be the same and I’ll surely (read ‘not’) complete it this time!”

Probably I was a little more than the others were but it definitely had an impact on me. I was in my engineering first year when I made a resolution to lose weight and stun people. I started working out at home rather than going to the gym as the timings weren’t feasible for me. I used to do 2-3 hours of non-stop dancing which made me sweat out a lot along with cardio exercises without compromising on my food. I managed to lose around 10 kilos and I now look much better than what I used to in my bulky school uniform. I’ve come a long way in trying to erase the tag of being a laddu and accomplished it.”
Syed Hyder, Final year engineering student “I never really keep resolutions or anything as such as I don’t understand the purpose of starting something on the first day of a new year. Things or habits can be changed or worked on during anytime of the year, why specifically January 1st? It might also be because of the fact that I can’t live up to completing any resolutions. I get drifted very quickly and then there’s nothing that can take me back to doing the chore and following it up on an everyday basis. Although, recently I’ve decided to control my smoking habits. I used to smoke around 5 cigarettes per day and now have reduced it to 2. The motivation behind doing so was my dentist friend who showed me the horrendous health conditions of people who’ve been smokers in their life. I used to think that it only happens to chain-smokers, but as a matter of fact, it can affect any smoker, depending on their immune system. I’m looking forward to quit smoking completely very soon.”
Sara Siddiqi, BDS student “Everyone in my family is a doctor and evidently, I always wanted to be one too. I was never a bad student but time management was one thing I couldn’t work on. Every twelfth grade science student knows how pressurizing and scary the medical entrance test is. So that year, I decided to push myself and made a resolution to balance all subjects accordingly. I jotted down a schedule by allotting specific time period to each subject which helped me immensely. I made it a point not to skip or interfere with the timetable by setting alarms and asking my sister to keep reminding me if I took longer breaks. She made me take even shorter breaks, shouldn’t have asked her. However, thanks to her and my immaculate schedule, I eventually did clear my entrance test. We’re sorry, Cheryl, but no one is buying your reason. I was shocked and couldn’t recognize her at all in one of the pictures in which she is looking like Michael Jackson, no offence.

The Spice Girls are back!
You read that right. The Spice girls had a reunion and are now going on a music tour! But, unfortunately, Victoria Beckham is apparently not going to be a part of the tour as she has backed out of it. We may not know the reason behind it but the other Spice girls have said that she eventually will be joining them on the tour. I guess we’ll just have to wait for the tour to commence to put an end to these rumours. As for the concerts which are going to be held, the tickets for them are already going full house with each getting sold for a whopping 2000 Euros, and even more. There were tickets being sold on Ebay as well for 9999 Euros each. Now that is too much, if you ask me. Many fans are out on social media ranting about the fact that the prices for the tickets are too high and the true fans cannot come to the concert because of it. There was a lady talking about how badly she wanted to take her daughter to the concert, the band she always loved as a teenager, but cannot as the fares are not affordable enough for her or many people for that matter. Also, side- note: The BackStreet Boys are back as well and going on a world tour very soon! We just hope that their prices will not be as humungous as the Spice Girls’ concert.

The remake of Tamil film ‘96’ is a hot discussion in the Tollywood circles. Leading producer ‘Dil’ Raju has acquired the remake rights and wants a star hero to feature in it. Though all the three heroes liked the story and film, somehow they could not connect to it and declined to do the remake. After considering many names, ‘Dil’ Raju has knocked the doors of Macho Hero Gopichand. Brazillian Grand Prix F
Verstappen and Ocon fight at the Brazillian Grand Prix was caught on camera: Red Bull driver Verstappen was on course for a dominant victory before Frenchman Ocon attempted to unlap himself, wiping out Verstappen in the process. Angry Verstappen branded Ocon a ‘f***ing idiot’ in a furious X- rated radio rant. Ocon bizarrely raced wheel-to-wheel at 200mph with the leader before banging into the right rear of Verstappen’s car. The force on lap 43 sent Verstappen into a spin facing the wrong way while Lewis Hamilton sailed by to resume the lead. He immediately confronted Ocon after the race and tried to shove him. Ocon attempted to remonstrate with him, appearing to protest his innocence over the incident. But it took pit crew members to step in to separate the pair, before Verstappen stormed off. The hit cost him from winning the Brazillian Grand Prix as he got a second late and had to settle for the second place. You can see the despair on Verstappen’s face in the picture.

We may not have a proper picture of the baby but he is bound to be a cutie and a pro at Tennis and Cricket. I’m talking about Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik’s son, Izhaan who is just born. Sania recently posted a picture of him watching cricket alongside her. She mentioned as to how they often watch Baba’s (Shoaib Malik) matches together and also of the present tour. Izhaan’s picture was not available but we are told he is a handsome little boy from a sneaky side pose of his leaked into the media which qualifies for him being super adorable. We would love to know how he looks exactly and are hoping for either of the proud new parents to give us a sneak peak of it very soon. Tumbbad The director of this film is a visionary and definitely deserves a standing ovation. The film no doubt falls under the category of psychological thriller. But, it is a one of it’s kind. Intense characters, with dark visuals and greay visual effects, the film is definitely worth the money!
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald Hey Potterheads! FYI, this story has too many characters, and too hard to keep track of. It was supposed to be a kid’s movie, but somewhere with all the rapes and impregnations, it loses all the essence. Well, we all go to a J.K. Rowling film with expectations, my advice is, for this, please don’t.
Taxiwala This movie was a delight for all Vijay Deverakonda’s fans. Short film star Priyanka has also garnered her much awaited success with the film. This movie justifies how Vijay experiments with the characters he plays, only this time by turning a taxi driver for all his fans.

BOOKS The President is Missing-
Bill Clinton and James Patterson This was the most hyped book of the year. The copies sold out within hours of launch, and I just could not keep calm about it. This had to be on my shelf minutes after I read about it. James Patterson is a great author, and while I could sense that the momentum of the novel was propelled by his imagination, he also needed a guided expertise from the Political arena to complete the experience that a reader would want, hence, Bill Clinton. The novel kicks off with a ginormous threat that America will have to face. Somehow, authorities discover a threat from within the cabinet itself, followed by the President becoming a suspect and then a victim, as he goes missing. The book is set in real time for about three days, where the president goes missing. FYI, this actually could happen. The thriller in the book is mad, yet cliched, but the genre demands it. This enticing collaboration is worth a read, but beware it runs through 500 odd pages and if you’re in for a light read, this will definitely not be your cup of tea. I’d rate the book a 3.8/5. Not really on the higher numbers, but worth reading for the mystery of it.
Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orïsha)
- Tomi Adeyemi You have to agree with the fact that I easily picked it up because of the title given by the author. For a debut novel of the fantasy genre, this is a work of great penmanship. It is a huge novel and I’m attracted to big books, hands down! But unlike most of the books that have an exceedingly ridiculous number of pages, this is super-fast paced and on the move. It is a reader’s story, as the author gave utmost importance to the characters, especially Zelie, a fierce warrior, followed by Amarie and her amazing transformation. The action, the war sequences, the battles were all beautifully illustrated with the use of great word play. The plot is wonderful, and close to impossible to predict what’s coming next. This saga has easily come to stand as my favorite this year, and I’d rate it a 4.8/5 with no hesitation.

- Madeline Miller I have a weird obsession with Mythology, especially if it is Greek. This story is a great work of Greek fiction. Circe is a daughter born in the house of Helios, the Sun God, and the undefeatable Titan. Unlike other children of the Gods, Circe has no great powers to flaunt, and turns to the mortal world for companionship. Gradually, she discovers her powers of witchcraft, where she has the ability to turn any rival into a monster, and plant them against the Gods themselves. This threatens Zeus, who then banishes her to a deserted island. Circe then masters her powers when on the island. However, she has to decide paths between choosing to stay with the Gods that she was born to, or take sides of the mortals that she started to love. For me, I’d rate the novel, a 4.3/5.
