Tulip magazine is the ultimate guide to latest happenings in the city and keeps everyone updated with new places, which helps me decide whether it is a place to hang out with friends or authentic place to dine with family. I came across this magazine at one of the restaurants while I was waiting for my friend and since then I started reading every edition. I must say to those who want to know about the city and its latest happenings, Tulip would be the best source of information for them. Raghav, Working at Deloitte
I am a foodie and I like to try out new cafes and restaurants for which Tulip magazine is the perfect guide. It keeps me posted about the new places coming up with different cuisines and gives me details about the ambience, what kind of food to try out. I love the articles in the cuisine section. I am glad that Tulip captures these places which help not only the Hyderabadi’s but also people who are new in town. Sudeepthi, Student

Amsterdam
Known for its artistic heritage, Amsterdam has an elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades, legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk. Cycling is key to the city’s character, and there are numerous bike paths. With world-class museums, quirky festivals, theatre, live music, laid-back bars and delightful restaurants, there’s never a shortage of things to do in Amsterdam!
Alexa!
Amazon’s Alexa-controlled Echo speaker, now in its second generation and with several derivative versions available, continues to expand its music, smarthome, and digital-assistant abilities. It’s first a wireless speaker, but capable of much more. Using nothing but the sound of your voice, you can play music, search the Web, create to-do and shopping lists, shop online, get instant weather reports, and control popular smart-home products— all while your smartphone stays in your pocket. Over a Cappuccino with Akhila Pemmasani
Akhila Pemmasani, a 28-year-old Telugu girl born in Delhi who has been a Professional Fashion Model in the past has a Bachelor’s Degree in Genetics, Microbiology and Chemistry. She has dabbled in a lot of jobs during her career – Graphic Designer, Copy Writer, Risk Management Investigator, IELTS and TOEFL teacher and in 2017, started her own design firm, DesignFort OPC Pvt. Ltd. of which she’s the Director.
Your daily routine? I start my day with the warm greetings of my beloved dog, Kona, a healthy breakfast and then set off to work at Clapshot Visual Factory (production studio in Film Nagar) as their Business Development Manager. Post work, I enjoy a bit of everything I am interested in. On weekends I love spending time with friends and family. The occasional clubbing, mixed with some great creative and reflective days at home does me good! As a coffee addict, you can often find me sampling coffee and food at many joints around the city and socializing with good people. I recently restarted gym and that’s becoming my priority too! When I can, I squeeze in some ‘me’ time with The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim before I head to bed. Tell us something about your family. My Father is a PhD holder from IIT Delhi in Chemical Engineering and Mom is a Nutrition and Diet specialist. I come from a family that values education and culture above all else. Ever since my elder sister and I were little, my parents have provided us with excellent resources for education and encouraged us to not limit ourselves, but to actively
seek out new learning. My dog is my imprint. He’s a big part of my life and I consider Kona my family just as much as anyone else! A family that’s constantly pushing you to grow while being the close support group you always need; I think I’m perfectly blessed! We maintain close ties even with our extended family members and us cousins usually have a better time than a group of friends! How was your journey as a model? Now that you’re making a comeback, how do you feel? As a model with dusky complexion, to be honest it was an uphill task to bypass the ‘fair is beautiful’ mindset that’s deeply rooted in most Indians. Faith and belief in myself saw me through, however, as I’d invested a lot of time in self-improvement and building my self-confidence. After travelling abroad interrupted my modelling work, I love that I’m coming back not just older, but also wiser and better for it! Getting to know the local fashion scene all over again is a challenge, but I’m enjoying the game for sure. Have you always wanted to do something related to fashion? Yes, I always have, ever since I was 10. I would sneakily draw fashion

drawings on the back page of my subject books at school and Fashion Design has been my paramount interest. Fashion is perennial. It is personal. It is something that defines each and every person, no matter how much they try to deny it, everyone is fashion!

How did you come up with Designfort OPC Pvt. Ltd. As a Graphic Designer and Copy Writer with experience in Digital Marketing, I realized the content that local markets rely on is quite archaic and dull. DesignFort was started with the idea to make international standards in content the new benchmark for Hyderabad’s marketing, design and content industry. Most skilled professionals these days lack the ability to innovate and reverse engineer and struggle to catch up with the latest advances in their technology field. For example, over 90% of people in Hyderabad still use an old version of Corel Draw as their standard operations software while there’s Adobe Creative Cloud Suite 2017 ruling the roost all over the world as the industry standard. You’re planning to launch your very own Fashion Label, tell us about it! Fascinated by couture designers such as my absolute favorites - Ralph and Russo, Marchesa, Zuhair Murad, Teuta Matoshi Duriqi, Saiid Kobeisy and Elie Saab, my designs aim to bring Runway Couture fashion to everyday lives and special occasions of ‘regular’ people - not just models, divas or movie stars...but to everyone and anyone, who has fine and elegant taste and a passion for the refinements of human culture! Fashion can be inclusive and personal. My Label is called Akhila Pemmasani and is set to launch in a couple of months starting with accessories (bags, jewellery, belts), shoes and will grow to include dresses and other women’s fashion items. How do you manage your personal and professional life? I barely sleep! Yeah, pretty much it. Just know your priorities in life and focus on what drives you! Use your challenges to propel you to success and NEVER GIVE UP! Tell us about your other hobbies and things that you love to do apart from your work. My hobbies span a variety of interests. I’m a trained Carnatic vocal singer, a black belt in Karate, actor, writer, (have script for a children’s fantasy novel already to send to publishers), adventure sports junkie (white-water rafting, quad biking, trekking, scuba diving), an avid gamer (was a part of HALO MLG when I was younger), technology expert, a voracious reader (my favourite authors are Tolkien, Tolstoy, Shakespeare, Victor Hugo and Jane Austen), Artist, Fashion Designer and many things besides! Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? As a successful design and fashion magnate with the power to change lives of those denied rights to a better life. That includes the betterment of the lives of all animals and environmental sustainability in action.
Rapid Fire Describe yourself in 3 words. Unforgettable. Driven. Unstoppable. Who do you admire the most? I admire the spirit of Human Nature – the one that never fears to discover what others tremble to see. My inspiration is taken not from any person, but from the spark of Curiosity, Life and Goodness that drives all living beings. If a movie was made of your life what genre would it be, who would play you? It would be an Action/Adventure/Fantasy film and I’d be honoured if ever Cate Blanchett played me! Are you a dog or cat person? DOG! Definitely. Dogs are a reflection of their owners. My pup has been the reason for my growth and the source of my sanity. What is one of the things you would put on your “bucket” list? Take the Trans Siberian railway trip, even though it’s over 7 days on a train, it spans a record eight time zones. Your most embarrassing moment. Faltering on the stage when I was in school. That day, I made up my mind to never have stage fright, and I never did again. Two places you’d rather be right now. Finland and Siberia. Raw nature wrapped in the warmth of the kindness of Life. What is the first thing you notice about someone when you first meet? Eyes. Everything else can lie, but not the eyes.

COVER STORY Veni. Vidi. Amavi. We came. We saw. We loved. If Valentine’s Day was a Roman celebration...or the celebration of an execution we’ll never know. But since ages, we have associated it with the celebration of love. When I was single, the 14th of February was just another day. The only significance of that day would be grooving to Linkin Park’s “Valentine’s day”. No hullabaloo about it. For him, it was just another working day. See us post-marriage. On okay New Year’s Eve, it dawned on us that now we have a partner and maybe we will have to celebrate V day! It was such a stressful situation. We went around taking advice from our friends who were committed and ironically the singletons too. Chocolates, roses, soft toys and mushy declarations of love seemed extremely artificial. We wouldn’t define our relationship based on that. Finally, when it was time, we simply looked at each other and decided that we’d spend the day at home cherishing each other’s company and nothing else. No fancy gifts, no putting up with peer pressure but a happy couple! There are a thousand things one can say when in love but the truth remains that love feels different for different people. For us it is about appreciating life, making the most of whatever time we get and growing up together. When you’re with the right person every day is Valentine’s Day. Zainab Razvi and Zeeshan Hyder
14th February is a day that’s filled with love! As mid-January approaches, the stores are all set with Valentine’s Day decor. But why do we celebrate love or expect so much from our significant others just this day? He and I feel like love should be celebrated every day! Love is an essential part of our lives & we are surrounded by it. Loving yourself, your partner, your family should be an everyday routine. Of course if every now and then we forget to appreciate our loved ones, this holiday can be a good reminder to show our appreciation. As for me, we will be celebrating by treating ourselves to our favourite restaurant and dessert. Abida and Iftaqar Hussain
So you decide to suddenly fall deeper in love with someone, just because there exists a day, popularly known as Valentine’s day? And what about the rest of the year? ill-treat them take them for granted, fight with them and more? A special someone doesn’t require a special day to be made felt special... make everyday special for the special someone if they really are special! Happy just another love filled day! Sanya Kapoor, Interior designer
So we all know that 14th February is celebrated as Valentine’s Day. This day is meant for the couples to celebrate their love for their significant others. But, according to my perspective, this day should not only be about couples celebrating their love and togetherness, it’s a lot apart from just that. Valentine’s Day is to celebrate the bond of love, love of a friend, a mother, a sister, a brother and every other person who loves another from beneath their heart, endlessly, where there are no tags of terms and conditions. So basically, this festival of lovers is not restricted to any sort of relationships. Love only happens from one’s heart, not mind. One needs to understand the feeling of love and how precious it is. Whether it’s a bond of a sibling, friend, lover or parent, it doesn’t matter. Sacral Gupta, Student.
I personally feel that Valentine’s Day is a really cute concept for singles to express their feelings and for couples to celebrate their love. I do believe that love is something that has to be celebrated every day and Valentine’s Day is just a cherry on the cake. As a boyfriend, I never really did anything for my girl in the past or never really celebrated this day. Probably wished, that’s little I recall of but I do look forward to celebrating this day in the future whenever I find someone. Sahil Taiyebi, Entrepreneur

Nature also decided to bestow on me the gift of another and this good news was broken to me in February. “I don’t think Valentine’s Day is only for couples; it can be celebrated with friends and family as well. Why confine the celebration of our love and loved ones to a single day when they contribute to our happiness every day?” She asks. Faridah feels it is high time we changed stereotype social tags to relationships. To put it in a nut-shell, she says “February maybe the shortest month of year but it certainly is the sweetest.”

And of course, Valentine’s Day is not only for couples but for everyone.” She says. Date Outfit Ideas Deciding what to wear every day is a challenge in itself but it’s a daunting task when it’s time to plan your outfit for a date. Underneath all the excitement, there is one anxiety-inducing conundrum: What am I going to wear?! While some people love to get ready for dates it’s not so for the rest of us. When you’re out with your special someone, the last thing you want is to be fussing with your outfit the whole time! A great date calls for an equally great outfit and being dishevelled and stressed out about it is no way to start out! Repete Brewery and Kitchen Our second choice is a rustic micro-brewery located down in the streets of Jubilee Hills. Repete Brewery and Kitchen is super for a weekly session of letting loose and enjoying yourself on the good side. Plush, luxurious beige and off-white interiors are the signature of this Jubilee Hills Brewery. Overlooking a cute little marquee with warm yellow light bulbs reading “Ignite,” you can enjoy their exclusive range of beers, especially the Belgian Wheat and the American Pale Ale. If you have sworn off the sins of alcohol then the Watermelon mocktail is your glass of champagne (oops juice). Since the brewery is brimming with excited party-goers or corporates for business meetings, the service can falter. But it does not disappoint, coated with mozzarella and fresh julienned spinach, the Spinach pizza is a delight. The loose prawns and Avakai Murgh Tikka are next on our list of recommendationscharred to perfection and slathered in a mix of spices. If you stop by for just a snack the grilled chicken and caramelized onion is your pick. The soups are one of our top recommends, choose the hot and sour soup for a kick in the gut or choose the chicken corn soup for a friendly handshake instead. A hardwood interior, with overhead succulents and glass doors, Club Rogue is refreshing and charming. The lounge has a theme of enchanted wood, and the electric vibe is almost tangible. The restaurant may not have outdoor seating, but the food and décor make up for it. It is almost like a beguiling greenhouse, with a flowing water fountain pressed against one wall. It has a tree-house themed balcony seating, which is perfect for a romantic date night or a solitary night of soul searching. The Club is popular for its killer dance floor, headed by an up and coming DJ. If clicking pouty selfies and pictures of food is your cup of champagne the exhilarating nightclub is the ideal place. The ambience and interiors are terrific, however, the service could use some work. The drinks are affordable and well made, often incorporating interesting elements like citrus or cherries to the alcohol. The food is primarily of North Indian, Chinese and Continental origin. We choose Kua Pao prawns that were well seared and spiced with just the right balance. The pepper chicken was amazing, coated with spicy cracked pepper, paired with garlic with a sauce on the side. #788 Avenue Our next entrant is the new kid on the block with some things to prove. Suspended books, high roofs, photograph ready lighting, #788 Avenue is leaving conventional café bars with a chip on their shoulders. The lounge is divided into 3 primary sections, the indoor section, the outdoor section and the DJ area. We opted for the crispy lotus stem with burnt garlic salt and pepper which was pleasant and the perfect pick me up for a bad day. We also tried the Jalapeno cheese poppers that hit with blasts of cheesiness. The Mexican veg sizzler could use some improvement; the dish was dry and required a sauce to pair with it. The Red Thai curry is one of our must-try items, it is steaming and absolutely pleasing to the palate in the nippy winter weather. Tilt Bar Republic
Tilt Bar Republic is cool, confident and subtle. The Gachibowli is the man for the job if you want a rare set of fine Belgian or Dutch beers. Our top recommend in the beer section is the Barbar Blonde, a mildly aromatic beer, followed by the Dubbel which comes with bitter undertones, and the Belgian Kriek for a summery, fruity flavour. The ambience is great, with a peppy, laid-back vibe. The finger food compliments the drinks well, as they work in harmony. The distinctive new bar often has live music that adds to the culinary experience. The LIIT is literally lit, like gulping down a fireball. The vegetable garden pizza is amongst our top suggestions, paired with the chunky Blueberry cheesecake. They make quite
the formidable couple. Cost for two- 1,500 INR Opening hours – 12 PM to 12 AM Address: 2nd floor, Fantasy Square building, Opposite Nissan Showroom, Biodiversity circle, Gachibowli. Contact: 040-33165694

Uday Kumar Sangisetty holds Vajra world record for his unique art form; he comes from a small town called Nacharam which comes under Khammam district. He studied MSC in Hyderabad and during his graduation, he used to teach mathematics for Inter and 10th class students to earn some pocket money. While he was doing his MSC in Hyderabad he liked to spend a lot of time in nature and one day he saw a man drawing a portrait on the spot and was deeply inspired. He went back to his room and started practising himself. He found himself spending more time with the artist too. “I started doing the pencil art as a hobby, whenever I would attend my friend’s birthday party instead of buying materialistic gifts I would sketch something nice for them and give it as a gift. It was one of my close friend’s birthday I didn’t know what to gift her and then I found a pencil and knife, so then I thought why don’t I try carving her initials on the lead of the pencil which turned out to be pretty good and everyone appreciated me for that and since then there was no turning back. Currently I am working in Cognizant. Before coming to Hyderabad I was just Uday Kumar Sangisetti, but now everyone knows me as micro artist Uday thanks to Hyderabad. “ 54 FEBRUARY, 2018 - TULIP

Sapan Verma Vir Das Bollywood actor and stand up comedian Vir Das is riding high on success and why not? Netflix, which is the world’s biggest digital streaming platform, aired its first ever Indian comedy special on 25th April. Which means his punch lines-on racism, homophobia, love in the age of A/S/L - are going global. Das has also made his American late night TV debut via Conan O’Brien’s talk show. It was at Knox that Das first explored stand-up comedy with his first special, Brown Men Can’t Hump, which debuted in Knox’s Harbach Theatre. And stand-up comedy it was – the field he chose to pursue and succeed in. One look at his Youtube channel and his easily relatable jokes will tell the amazing story of his journey. He works with various popular Indian comedy companies like East India Comedy, SchitzenGiggles and the Papa CJ Comedy. Abhish has performed jokes internationally from New York to Holland. Abish style of humour is often provocative and not for the faint-hearted, Ugandan cops, Salman Khan, or your religious Catholic friend.
Kanan Gill completed his graduation in Bangalore and worked as Software Engineer in Exeter for 3 years, right before things took a detour for him after he won a competition titled ‘Punchline Bangalore’, and then one after that at the Comedy Store, Mumbai. That’s how the hot bedded affair between standup comedy and Mr. Gill began. Kanan Gill’s YouTube series called Prententious Movie reviews with fellow comic Biswa became hugely popular among audiences, Gill moved to pursue stand-up after quitting his job, and women realized that the engineer turned YouTuber was tad too handsome to not be enamoured of and thus began the saga of Rath and Gill going up the comedy hill. Apart from Prententious, there are several other ventures such as Dudes and Street Interviews. While Kanan Gill’s forte is sarcasm, his timing and an ability to elicit laughs at dating habits, the female attention he gets, Biswa’s IIT tag and the sheer sadness of Bollywood’s lowest fare make him worth your time.
Biswa Kalyan Rath Indian stand up comedian, writer and YouTuber, Biswa Kalyan came into prominence through YouTube comedy series, Prententious Movie Reviews with a fellow comedian Kanan Gill. Biswa and Kanan came up with the idea of the Prententious Movie reviews, a series of videos which soon went viral on YouTube. FEATURE I love watching stand up comedy shows and when I started watching Kenny Sebastian’s stand up comedy I couldn’t stop smiling, every joke of his is so hilarious, His show Keep It real in Amazon Prime literally makes my day. Anyone who is feeling low right now should definitely watch his show, all his jokes so relatable and wittiest. He has a great presence of stage. I would say that he is one of the best comedians in India has of course they are others too but I like him the most and admire his work. His stand up “Don’t Be That” guy is a must watch, it’s like the best thing I have watched so far. Looking forward to see more stuff like these.

Zakir Khan Zakir Khan is one of the many stand-up performers who have gained considerable recognition in the recent past. He is known for effectively using humour to pint out what is wrong with society. Zakir is gradually gaining a foothold for himself in the stand-up comedy scene, and has had quite an interesting journey. He is also writer and presenter and rose to popularity by winning Comedy Central’s India’s Best Stand up Comedian Competition. He has also been a part of a news comedy show, On Air with AIB.
I like Vir Das because he manages to keep his material refreshingly new. That in itself deserves credit. Vir Das delves into very critical issues, be it religious phobia, racism, patriotism, politics, corruption, lover or even parenthood. You name it he rakes it! He gives a sneak peek into his personal life as well. In the intolerable and easily offend-able world that we live in, It’s very difficult to discuss these issues in general and to ring laughter out of it is definitely commendable. What he does is not easy but he manages to do it with aplomb. He does not lose a second to point out his audiences’ hypocrisy, what the audience would take away most from his performance would be dirty jokes or toilet humour. His debut in Conan O’Brien talk show is the best thing I have watched.

Steaks & Sizzlers
- By Rabica Zulfiqar
All the meat-lovers out there know this to be true – the bigger the steak, the better. It is what other meat wishes it could be! Is there anything more delicious than a perfectly-cooked steak? A well-marbled steak has plenty of juicy flavours and the strong flavour of the beef is a hard one to not love! Sizzlers come after steak for some but they’re nothing less when it comes to flavour! Dessert sizzlers exist too, like sizzling brownies served with vanilla ice cream. Let’s not get carried away though, we’re here to talk about meat and meat only (Sorry dear vegetarians)! These are some of the top places in the city that serve steaks and sizzlers that are so good, they will make you drool!
Chef Inam’s Steak House This is the first name that pops up in your head when you hear the word “steaks”. Offering some of the most delicious steaks in town, Chef Inam’s Steak House is one of the best places to go to for steaks! Their Iron Man Steak is made in an all charcoal bbq and comes in a sizzling coal iron. Lying there, inside the iron is the mouth-watering tenderloin steak covered in sweet and spicy barbecue sauce. Cooked to perfection, it’s the juiciest, most tender steak we’ve ever had and we absolutely love it! All this is served with veggies, garlic bread, creamy mashed potatoes, corn and brown rice. Another specialty is the chicken sizzler steak which is served on a bed of Mandi Rice with veggies and chicken on top. The chicken alone is brilliant but when you have it with the rice, all the troubles seem to fade away! Address: Banjara Hills Road No.12, Fortune Enclave, Beside Ohri’s. Ph: 040 6999 4858

Aerobic training
What is aerobic? It is a mixture of dancing, Zumba, jazz and so much more. They are usually called workouts with low impact because they are slow paced compared to other aerobic workouts. Aerobic training strengthens your cardiovascular system by increasing your heart rate and breathing. These exercises use large muscle groups to perform rhythmic actions for a sustained period of time. They are performed for 15 minutes typically and should maintain your heart rate in between 60 percent to 80 percent of your maximum heart rate. Examples of aerobic exercise include fast walking, jogging, and running, stair steppers, elliptical and swimming. But you can’t enjoy being in any of your outdoor areas if they are not tended to. So what can you do about it? Well, you could hire a professional landscaper to organize something for your yard but that can be expensive and you also take away the chance to truly enjoy your outdoor areas. Gardening is a great hobby. It is relaxing, helps pass the time, gets you in touch with nature and even helps develop several skills. If you take care of them by yourself, you are going to appreciate every single thing a bit more. Use ornaments as finishing
Much more than an afterthought, garden ornaments can guide how you shape and use your outdoor space, and affect how it feels when you are in it. A wrought- iron gate can mark the entrance to a world of green, a tree-hung lantern raises your perspective, a curved bench inspire a nap. They also give a garden space a finished look in all four seasons. The trick is to not overdo it.
INTERIOR
Dress up Garden Entrances
Even in a small landscape, a sequence of discrete spaces, connected by passageways and paths, adds a sense of mystery and expansiveness to an ordinary stroll. The Befalls created a journey that begins with a wisteria-draped arbor near the house and winds downhill, across terraces, along walks, and down steps that continue the theme of eye-catching, weatherworn stone. Paths indicate the way; iron arches and gates— many from gardener’s-supply catalogs and covered with vines—mark transitions to different areas. Potted bougainvillea, citrus trees, and palms further accent entries, as do finials perched on pedestals.
Let Decorative Elements Play up Sound Hearing the trickle of water is an all-but-irresistible lure to exploring a garden. Listening to its music, you want to track it to its source, and in the Befalls’ landscape there are many. A fountain with an octagonal basin creates the liquid soundtrack for the herb garden. Another echoing the columnar shape of Italian cypress trees nearby, bubbles amid flower-like agaves, drawing hummingbirds in droves. Both pieces were potteryyard scores.
Cinder Blocks
Don’t have space for garden but still want some plant life outside? Cinder blocks are perfect for potted plants. All you need to do is arrange them in your own way to bring nature that little bit closer.
Pick Bold Flowers for Your Garden
Sometimes the best colour addition you can use is from plants. Research what brightly-hued flowers fit well with your garden and head on to a nearby nursery to get them. Some perennials have very exotic looking blooms and will give you flowers for a few years to come. TULIP - FEBRUARY, 2018 65

Collect all the colourful glass bottles from your next party or holiday event and put them to good use in the garden. Create a beautiful flower bed border that’s both thriftly and sturdy by burying the tops and leaving the colourful ends exposed.

Hang colanders in your garden
Now, these brightly coloured certainly make some unique flower baskets! They are extremely sturdy and practical.
Accessorise with Colours Decorate your garden cheaply with recycled tins Pond in a pot
Do you want to add small feature to your small garden but don’t have space? If yes then create a pond in a pot you can also make it in a bucket.
Some food and coffee tins are so pretty; it seems a shame to throw them away so don’t. Instead, you can up cycle old tins into gorgeous garden decor. Empty and clean them, then plant as you would traditional plant pots.
You can add colour to your garden without having to go big. You can choose to add small glass spikes, a few colourful planters, or may be just a bright outdoor rug. The trick is to keep everything balanced while still injecting a dramatic hue into your colour palette.
Stacked Crates
Create a vertical planter pyramid! Keep the structure from becoming too precarious by reinforcing the stacked crates with wooden planks.
Make use of old tree stump
Don’t throw away that old tree stump. Turn it into a cool, mini garden instead. Turn a lopped-off tree into the highlight of your yard by filling it with colourful flowers. 66 FEBRUARY, 2018 - TULIP

INTERIOR
I am very involved with my Garden. I feel that a good garden reflects the personality and energy of the inmates of the house or the person tending it. I am more of a foliage person. I like to have more of different colours, shapes and textures of leaves than flowers. Flower plants need more attention and care. I have my garden maintenance fine twice a month and lawn mowing to zero level twice a year. Weeds are a part of the ecosystems and we must not be too upset. I prefer to have them manually removed than use chemicals. Mulch should be encouraged. I use more of compost than chemical fertilisers. Personally I dislike the manicured look of a garden. I prefer a more natural blend of colours and plants. When it comes to pesticides, I prefer to spray neem oil but sometimes using chemical to ward off pesky pests becomes unavoidable. Speaking to my plants and loving them is a part of my daily routine. The positive energy I receive from them is overwhelming. Any plant lover will tell you that. Manjula Narsa

Passports:Before planning your trip, make sure your passport is way away from the expiration date. Airlines prefer six months before, but we say at least a year. Visas:Now, the second important thing after checking you have a passport is the visa. The visas are the most important part of travelling abroad. It is a form that has to be filled well before time so that you are allowed to stay in the country for a particular period of time. Tickets: An easy hack to get cheap airfares is to try browsing in incognito mode! Booking your tickets way in advance can cause you to pay more, so make sure you book the flights two months before the travel date and not too much before that. Hotels: Some people prefer to go their destination and look for hotels but that sometimes may not prove so handy when you don’t know much about the area. So the hack to book good hotels is to simply check out the reviews on different websites such as goibigo.com.
Packing
Packing is one of the most tedious tasks and can be a real pain if you are one of the organized. So we’re going to tell you some of the top hacks to pack your suitcase and make sure everything stays organized. Use packing cubes: It can be really difficult to pack with your clothes rolling in every direction, hence packing cubes were created. They ensure all of your clothes are packed without a problem and guarantee you the highest form of organization. To buy them, just go through Amazon. They have a ton of products in all different sizes and shapes! Pack ONLY the Versatile Items. (Do NOT Over-pack): When you are packing your clothes make sure you carry limited pieces of them. To carry a lot for no use would mean taking up unnecessary space in your suitcase. We would suggest carry 2-3 pair of jeans, shorts and couple of basic tees for a 4-5 days trip. Buy zipper bags:In case of the clothes, which you don’t mind getting creased (best for dirty clothes), put them in zipper bags. Zip them up and then roll them, 80% of air is poofed out and you can put them anywhere in your suitcase!
Sightseeing
Make sure you make a list of which all things you want to explore. If you’re on more than one country tour and visiting limited number of cities, make sure, you plan everything in advance especially if you are only there for a day or two. Check their opening and closing time and make sure you know the specialty of the food joint that you are visiting. If you are going to an amusement park or a theme park, make sure you check online how the ticket systems work. You should have them booked well before time!

TRAVEL
Food
When you are travelling abroad, there is one very important thing that you must not forget and that is food.Make sure you know your options if you are a vegetarian. It’s hard surviving out there like that! Carry ready-to-eat when you are abroad to avoid any unnecessary problems. The food is one of the most important parts of the place you are visiting. Each place has its different cuisine and is known by it so you wouldn’t want to miss on that!Check google about the most famous affordable cafes and visit them.
Currency
Make sure you carry a global debit/credit card so as to withdraw money from anywhere possible.Even if you are carrying only cash, make sure you hide it safely in your suitcase and under no circumstance do not carry the money when you go sightseeing in a foreign country. Carry limited amount of cash.Convert all your currency before you go to the country. Travelling to that country and exchanging cash there would prove a little expensive. If you have booked the tickets quite some time before, keep an eye if the value of currency drops, hence you can exchange your money at a much cheaper price!
Travelling
Travelling in and around the city can be tough in a foreign country and that is why before going to explore make sure you have Google Maps on your phone. Make sure you have all the cab applications on your phone! (Preferably Uber). Buy a bus pass or a metro pass if available, it makes travelling easy and affordable!Google on what is the easiest way to travel around the city.
Utilise the Lounge
Lounges are great, be it travel for leisure, business or adventure. Reach the airport early, indulge in great food and drinks. The Plaza Premium Lounge is located at all major airport throughout India and abroad and they hosting unique food festivals to keep their guests intrigued. Not many people know they even have nap lounges, which you can access when you reach early or if your flight is delayed for any reason (we know that happens a lot these days). The rooms are compact but great for a quick nap or rest between your flights. It can accommodate two adults, with each room featuring a bunk bed, TV electronics charging dock, WiFi and enough space to store carry-on baggage. Some rooms also have attached washrooms. The access is for a minimum amount but with all these benefits we say it’s worth it. Where: Plaza Premium Lounge TULIP - FEBRUARY, 2018 69

MOVIES Movie Reviews
The Post In a key moment in Steven Spielberg’s mesmerizing journalism drama “The Post,” Washington Post publisher Katharine Graham (Meryl Streep) is on a nighttime phone call, with several powerful men in her ear telling her, conflictingly, what she should do. Agonized but trying to remain calm, she makes the decision (“Let’s go”), hangs up the phone, and raises a hand, palm flat, to the empty room around her, as if she’s pushing away any second thoughts. Later, that same night, that hand gets raised again — but this time; it’s to a roomful of men, silencing them with a newfound imperiousness. “I’m talking to Mr. Bradlee now,” she says, in her dusky patrician voice; it’s as if she’s been transformed, in just a few hours. It’s an old-school movie in the very best of ways: A story-driven drama that’s paced almost like a thriller, taking us back to days when newspapers were assembled in hot type by men in fedoras (well, maybe that’s a costume designer’s flourish, but I’d like to believe it) and when suspense could be conveyed by some extremely dramatic Xeroxing. The film is both a gripping and timely celebration of the free press, and, in the remarkable hands of Streep, an exploration of what it meant then (and, perhaps, now) to be a woman thrust into power in an all-male world. “The Post” tells of a great moment in journalism — and a great moment in one remarkable woman’s life. Padmaavat The first thing that strikes you as Padmaavat unfolds on the screen is how tepid the opulent, overwrought film is in spite of its visual flair and technical wizardry. Its beauty, as is usually the case with a Sanjay Leela Bhansali extravaganza, is skin deep. It is magnificent but overly manufactured. Female lead Deepika Padukone - after whose character the film was named until censorial intervention shaved off the ‘i’ from the title and diluted its upfront distaff emphasis, is an eye-catching epitome of elegance. She is a sight to behold. So, as some Sanjay Leela Bhansali fans might assert, is the film. As for the film as a whole, the saving graces are of an entirely superficial nature. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali approach to filmmaking is on full view in Padmaavat, so no surprises there. He discards subtleties, pumps up the pitch and batters the material at his disposal into one big pulpy spectacle. The director’s most willing ally in this endeavour is Ranveer Singh, ebulliently evil and visceral in his portrayal of a venal villain on the rampage. He is never short on energy. If only he knew how to channel it with greater modulation, he might have made Alauddin Khilji a touch more human and a little less of the ugly beast he is made out to be. Gang Uttam Das (Suriya) is a man whose dreams of becoming a CBI officer are shattered by the corrupt system. Upset, he decides to take revenge by forming a gang who pose as CBI officials to loot money. The similarities between Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Special 26’ and Vignesh ShivN’s ‘Gang’, dub of the Tamil film ‘Thaanaa Serndha Koottam’, lies at the core of the film. ‘Gang’ is a heist film that is mostly playful, but for some reason, gets preachy right at the end. The film revolves around Uttam Das (Suriya), the charming and bright CBI aspirant. However, when his and his father’s dreams are shattered by a corrupt officer, it’s time for some payback. Suriya is the heart and soul of this film, delivering a stupendous performance. Keerthy Suresh is good in her role and Ramya Krishnan wows as usual. Her comic timing is on-point, so is her performance. Character developments in the film seem to be all over the place. A sincere and tough CBI officer who’s after the gang becomes redundant later on, with no explanation given, because the gang already has an antagonist. The climax seems a bit over the top with the film losing the celebratory and cheery tone it had built from the start and veering towards the OTT preachy. The heavy Tamil flavour that the film carries could be off-putting for some, even though the film is an entertaining one. If you haven’t seen the original, you will surely enjoy this one. However, if you have, go watch it just for Suriya and the fun factor, you will not be disappointed.

ARIES March 21 - April 19
TAROT
It’s said: “Fish and bread keep a poor man fed”. However, this proverb can’t be applied to Aries in February. Horoscope for the second month of 2018 advises that Aries will not belong to the modest ones who would be happy only with the basic. The 10 gigabyte data on your mobile phone will evaporate faster than a lemonade may disappear in hot summer. Similarly, when you will look at the sum of your spending on food, clothing and entertainment, it will give you the shivers. Aries, do not worry. The February horoscope only recommends – curb a bit your sense of cultivated taste accompanied by great generosity.
Forecast For
FEBRUARY 2018 CANCER June 21 - July 22
The beginning of 2018 is a favourable period for Cancer. February is a month when you will be able to solve all important issues – things will fit perfectly together as pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The February horoscope recommends to go often into nature, especially for all people born under the Cancer zodiac sign. Here you will find new energy, which is necessary for the next period of the year. The horoscope also reveals that you will probably receive an interesting offer. When you will doubt whether to accept it, simply toss a coin and hear the voice of your fate!
TAURUS April 20 - May 20
Taurus, in February you will tend to solve problems scientifically. Definitely, you will bet on some “wise” book, a bestseller, rather than on telepathy or intuition. But if Taurus is troubled by unhappy love, or if you have problems in relationships with colleagues or superiors, even the best advice found in books or on the Internet may not work well. During February, you will find out if you have really good friends. Taurus, the 2018 horoscope tells that close friends, but no one else, will help you overcome the difficulties and will give you best advice on how to prosper.
GEMINI May 21 - June 20
It’s time for your hobby! February is the right moment for creativity, also for rest, and for building lasting relationships. The horoscope encourages Gemini – If you like design, take a pencil and try to design a brand new chair. A skilful joiner can certainly turn your draft into a real piece of art. And such a unique piece of furniture can also serve as a gift for the one you love. But, if you love animals, adopt a giraffe and support the local zoo. Finally, February 2018 offers an ideal opportunity to test manual skills as well. Gemini, you can knit up a scarf, make a bird feeder or try to prepare a real handmade three-tier cake for your friends.
VIRGO August 23 - September 22 AQUARIUS January 20 - February 18 Aquarius should be alert in February. The desire for retaliation may easily dominate the mind. Obviously, the world is not just. Everything that does the beloved counterpart, mother-in-law or colleagues at work can certainly not be called as “the road to paradise”. But the right answer to the occasional offense is not emotional terrorism. Aquarius, the horoscope recommends that if someone is behaving badly let him or her know that you will not accept such offense for the second time. That is all.
February 2018 will be a bumpy road for Virgo. The horoscope encourages men and women born under this zodiac sign to prepare for an unpleasant surprise. Virgo loves comfort, but you have to do without it for a while. Your diplomatic / dramatic talent will be at the forefront. (Virgo usually keep this skill for worse times). Virgo, there may be no other choice but to act. If you are not sure about the right solution, simply join those who have more experience than you.

Libra is known for loving the order. But of course, “too many cooks spoil the broth” is the saying. If you have to arrange a children’s train trip, a corporate party, and a new golf club website that has offered you membership, Libra will get a serious headache. So, we are afraid that in February, people born under Libra will reach the limits of their managerial skills. It is enough when you are in the hurry and you just scratch one important piece of information on the “post-it” paper, and everything may soon go wrong. This yellow paper may accidentally disappear from the fridge, or from the bulletin board, or from the door. Therefore the horoscope warns Libra, stay careful and do not be afraid to say “NO” if you do not already have the situation under control.
Capricorn can expect a great opportunity; you may find a real golden vein during February. However, you do not have to fly to Alaska and buy all the gold mining equipment. It seems that the greatest power of Capricorn lies in interpersonal relationships and in the ability to negotiate, persuade, and bring people together. It will be safe to sneak through tough questions in unpleasant conversations, as if it was the 2018 Slalom World Championship in St. Moritz. If you got into troubles in marriage or partnership last year, now comes the ideal time to fix it.
It seems that you should concentrate on education. However, the February horoscope of 2018 shows Leo’s tasks in slightly different light. Leo’s mind will constantly hover in clouds, in the land of dreams and fantasy. Leo may simply fall in love. Who would in such case be interested in Excel charts? Who would be interested in the Latin name of the thigh muscle? Who would be interested in all the works of Ernest Hemingway when the most amazing “babe” is near you? A loud shot from a cannon, let alone an alarm clock, is useless in such case.
February 2018 will stimulate Scorpio’s ability to solve very complex tasks. What is also characteristic is the fact that if you decide to buy a new dress or a tie, it will definitely be some unique piece with complicated ornaments or patterns.Scorpio, it is very likely that after the demanding performance of your gray cerebral cortex, you will also appreciate your comfortable bed as well as your loving partner’s arms. In this regard, you will be definitely lucky. Although relationships may be tempestuous in February, Scorpio simply need to feel the pure intensity in love.
Sagittarius, do you know the movie ‘All is Lost’ with the famous actor Robert Redford? If not, it might be worth to see it now. February 2018 can bring you a similar worry. Sagittarius, you can feel lonely on your voyage, even though you might have imagined that loneliness would be the source of the desired relaxation. The horoscope highlights that the boundary between perfect relaxation and desperate solitude is quite thin. Do not forget to think about “saving for a rainy day “. Keep all the little but important things in mind during whole February (from one spare battery pack for your mobile phone to one extra pack of sugar in the pantry). And do not worry, everything will go well, in your life as well as in the movie.
Pisces, you will perceive the beginning of the 2018 as moving at snail’s pace. But do not be fooled. Things look different at first glance and in comparison with closer examination. A snail can unexpectedly become a tiger that throws away its shell and leaps forward generically. February will therefore be the month when Pisces may overcome prolonged health problems that are also related to slow pace of work. In some cases, the process of healing may be miraculous and strong as the story of Harry Potter. According to the horoscope, you may also enjoy interesting encounters and meet new people. Pisces, you’ll actually enjoy February, although it may not look like it now!
