The Witcher is an American fantasy drama series created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It is based on the book ‘The Witcher’ written by a Polish writer named Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher follows the story of Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than monsters and beasts. The Witcher’s world is a cynical one, perched on a history of brutal colonization, endless wars, and magic that doesn’t allude to gods and purpose but is literally chaos itself bent into submission. It’s where monsters are often more sympathetic than humans, products of abuse and random cosmic misfires rather than inherently evil morality figures. Here, fairytales end with everyone dying before the big lesson hits. Watch it on www.netflix.com

Many people from the City opted to travel to other places for New Year’s this time. No wonder the city had fewer options to party and even fewer people to party with as most of them dragged their friends along with them to have a good company; that’s true friendship!

Over a Cappuccino with

ANUSHA VUTHALURU A successful model, a budding actress, and an extremely ambitious Anusha spoke with us and shared delightful insights into her life. She is someone who makes ‘self love’ her priority, is an absolute workaholic and has forever loved being on the stage. Amidst all of this, she never compromises upon spending time with her pup, family, and friends! What is a typical day in your life? My morning starts with a cup of coffee and my Gratitude journal where I write down my thoughts and then go for a walk with my pup. I am a person who is career-driven and very ambitious. I like to work and keep myself busy most of the time. So, apart from acting and modeling which I really love and enjoy doing, I also do creative writing and brand management for a few brands. This helps me stay connected to both my education and my acting career. Also, I make sure to dedicate some part of my day in working out to stay healthy and fit. Tell us something about yourself. I am a dog person. A coffee addict. A sucker for fashion and clothes. The one and only thing in life I swear to live by is “Love Yourself More”. Every Single Day. Always love yourself first. What does it take for one to succeed in the field you excel in? I guess the one thing that anyone needs to succeed in their chosen field is Patience. It’s the most important characteristic one needs to have to be successful. So yes patience is one and the one other thing that is as important as Patience is Confidence. You need to really be 2

confident about yourself. You need to believe in yourself to achieve anything you ever want. How do you manage to maintain a balance between your work and personal life? I am a workaholic, but for me being a workaholic does not mean that I only keep working all the time. For me balancing my work & personal life is very very important. So even when I am working I consciously take time out for what is important for my mental being- such as taking time for myself, relaxing, spending time with my pup, friends, and family. I make sure that no matter how busy I am, I keep in touch with everything and everyone that keeps me sane & grounded. Tell us an interesting incident that happened at work recently. Every day gets interesting because, in the fashion and film industry that I am in, every person you meet, every project you do is interesting in its way. What has it been like to have a career in modeling and posing as a lead in a web series? How different has it been for you? Both modeling and acting are exciting and challenging in its own way.

actor to have worked with talented people across different industries and platforms. Also, I would really like to see myself succeeding as a businesswoman too.

LIFESTYLE |

The one thing I swear by is No sugar. That has always helped me in staying fit.

What is the proudest moment in your career? Since I come from a non-filmy background, every project I picked no matter how small or big was a proud moment in itself. But if I have to answer one such moment in specific, I guess it will be the day when I bagged a lead role in the web series “Hawala” that just got released on Zee5. It has been the most memorable moment for me. You know as the saying going goes “Firsts are always special”. What do you do in your free time when you’re not working? Whenever I have some free time, I spend it with my pup, listen to music or bingewatch on Netflix. They keep updating with really good content. I am a huge fan of “Suits”. Who is not? Right! It has been an overwhelming experience by far. I always wanted to pursue a career in this industry. Since my childhood, I have always been a stage person, I used to participate in dance shows, fashion shows, used to choreograph for events, style my friends, etc. So I guess being in this industry has always been something I wanted to do since I was a child. With this, I can say that my journey from modeling to acting has been really exciting and interesting. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Any upcoming projects? Now that’s a question I was waiting to answer. I would like to see myself as an established

What has the journey been like in this field? I just started. I don’t know if I can answer that yet. I want to do a lot of work here. But by far, it has been very exciting, challenging, interesting but overall it has been an enjoyable experience. What is your most embarrassing moment? So I had a friend who called me to wish on my birthday and instead of saying thank you, I said: “Happy birthday to you too.” This was super funny more than embarrassing I guess. How do you manage to stay fit? Is there anything you swear by?

Rapid Fire Are you a morning person or a night person? Night person Next holiday destination? London One habit you would like to change in yourself? I want to start being a morning person more. The last lie you told someone? A friend asked me if I was home. I was too lazy to step out so I said I wasn’t home. Lol. Your biggest addiction? Coffee, any day. Three things you never leave home without? My phone, my lip balm, and my air pods. What’s a day without music, right? Celebrity crush? Farhan Akhtar. Who would you like to work with next? The list is too long; I want to work with everyone. (laughs) I told you I am ambitious! However, if I have to name just one person, then that would be Allu Arjun. I really love the way he dances.

Let’s seek some advice from the experts this winter Well, with all the winter winds and the freezing temperatures out there in Hyderabad, we all need some expert advice on how to maintain healthy hair and skin, and there is no one better than those who have been in the industry since inception. Let’s see what suggestions are in store for us.

Prakash,

Senior hair stylist at F7, 28 years of experience Is it safe to colour one’s hair during the winters? Yes, absolutely. Colouring one’s hair will hardly affect the growth and health of anyone’s hair. It is the scalp that accounts to hair’s strength and can determine if it is healthy or not. What comes after hair colouring is only the maintenance. What are the basic hair care products for coloured hair? First things first, a client should remember that their hair colour experience does not end at the salon. It in fact begins once you leave the salon. Make sure to stick to an ammonia-free, colour protection shampoo and a conditioner. To consistently maintain smooth and shiny looking hair, treat your hair with a mask that suits your hair type every once a week. The key is to manage colour fade prevention, and your hair will be the most thankful to you. What kind of preventions to implement after the colouring process? Your hair, though managed by an expert hair stylist while undergoing 24

the colouring process becomes breathless. The key to maintaining healthy hair right after colouring is to lock away all those heating tools that you proudly display otherwise for a while at least. But, If you have to style your hair with no choice left, ensure to use the right heating protection as a precaution and follow up with leave-in treatments like oils or creams. How often should one wash their hair after colour treating it? Washing your hair on a daily basis can not only strip its fibres of natural oils, leaving it dry and dull, but it will also make your new hair colour slowly lose its impact and vibrancy. If you still want to wash your hair every day, make sure you use shampoo and conditioner specially exclusive to colour treated hair and try tinted hair masques for a hair colour revitalisation. To seek expert hair advice or to give your hair a transformation, contact Prakash on his social media Facebook: @prakashcool Instagram: prakash9764 Or visit F7 salon: 1285A ,1ST FLOOR ,SRI PARVATA BUILDING, Hyderabad, Telangana 500033

Jayalakshmi,

BEAUTY |

Owner at Unique beauty salon and make up expert Exfoliation in winter? Is it harmful to skin? Exfoliating during the winter can be even more helpful than the summer as in winters the skin tends to be more dry than it is during the summer because of the cold weather and low humidity. With a gentle exfoliator, you can remove dry skin patches that might be wreaking havoc on your skin and unveil a brighter complexion. There barely is any sun in the winters, so is an SPF required? Even if you stay indoors most of the times, and even if the days are overcast, SPF is extremely important in the winter. Because you’re getting twice the sun exposure due to the lack of ground absorption. Even if the sunlight is weak, you’re still getting those UV rays from both directions. You can in fact get sunburnt in the winter, and can damage your skin by not wearing SPF in the cold weather. As with everything else, you’ll want to choose an SPF that won’t dry you out. Stay away from sunscreens with fragrances. Choose a light sunscreen designed to go under your makeup, such as a makeup primer with built-in SPF for the best protection. How to maintain oily skin during winters? If you’re used to being able to skip moisturiser in the summer because you have oily skin, think again during the winter. Oily skin still needs a light, oil-free lotion in the winter to keep it protected against the harsh weather and environments. You can find a moisturiser that combines sunscreen to reduce the number of potentially pore-clogging layers that you need to wear. What do people with dry skin have to follow? If your skin is dry already, winter will be your most challenging time of the year. You’ll need to double up on hydration with a cream or oil-based cleanser to prevent even more moisture loss. It’s a good idea to look for a moisturiser that has protecting ingredients like hyaluronic acid or petrolatum, which trap moisture and add extra hydration. Also, skip out on foam cleansers, which dry skin out during the best of times. It will also be more important for you to hydrate at night so that your skin gets a constant regimen of extra hydration. What are a few tips for make up in winters? i) Before putting on makeup, make sure you use a good moisturiser that suits your skin. It will help you get rid of the dryness, and in turn provides a smooth layer for applying your makeup products.

ii) A silver eyeshadow looks great during winter. To highlight your eyes the right way, opt for an eyeshadow in shades of silver and white, complemented with a soft black liner for a contrasting effect. iii) A small amount of bronzer on the cheeks is perfect to flaunt during winter. It will not only make you look lovely, but will also perfectly complement your winter attire. For an evening look, you can use a creamy blusher and a complementing eyeshadow. iv) Red is an absolute hit during wintertime. Even if you find it too bold to wear round the year, winter brings you the opportunity to experiment with a variety of shades of red. Regardless of your skin tone, you can never go wrong with shades of red, dark pink, and burgundy. Creative hairstylist at Manea, the salon What are you suggestions to maintain healthy hair during winters? There are different types of hair such as curly hair, frizzy hair, straight hair, etc. Here are some tips in general: 1. Apply oil on the scalp only overnight for three alternate days in a week. 2. Wash your hair properly with the suggested shampoo the next day after applying oil. 3. Never overuse any application (oil or shampoo) Following these basic procedures, will definitely help you maintain hair with a good consistency and minimal hair loss during the winters. What are the best hair products to have a hydrated hair? Products do a great deal in the health and appearance of everyone’s hair, irrespective of the gender. The following products will help you enhance texture and balance in appearance. For Curly and wavy frizzy hair: Mythic oil shampoo For dandruff: Sensi Balance shampoo Breakage and dryness: Inforcer mask and shampoo For nourishment purpose - Liss Control creme and Liss Control plus+ serum are two different products which have to be applied together after hair wash. But most importantly, it is key to have a good hairstylist to look after the health and well being of your hair constantly. Any tips to tackle oily scalp in winters? Well, it is uncommon to hear about an oily scalp in winters, but it is very true. The scalp can get as oily as possible during the winters as it absorbs the moisture from the atmosphere around. Here are a few tips to tackle your hair during such situations.

iv) Avoid using a lot of hair products or straightening them too often.

i) Do not touch your hair frequently as you will end up transferring dirt from your fingers to your scalp.

v) Conditioners coat the hair, so those with oily hair should alter the usage according to the requirement.

ii) Wash your hair at right intervals, but keep in mind that overwashing can lead to increased oil production as the body tries to compensate for dry scalp. On the other hand, less wash can cause the accumulation of oils and fungal growth.

Whatever the reason for oily scalp, using a gentle shampoo is useful. A little amount of warm oil followed by a mild shampoo is useful if the scalp feels very greasy and if there is dandruff. You can even shampoo twice a week. However, conditioner use should be restricted to only the tips.

iii) Keep your pillowcases and combs well cleaned.

“The most special thing about Hyderabad is its Chai. I cannot start my day without a cup of Irani chai from one of the small shops near my house. The smell of the spices wafting through my window in the morning make me feel excited for the day ahead, which I know will be full of a few cups of this tea. Watching the locals make just one cup of tea with so much patience and passion makes the wait worth it. If you ask me, chai is not a beverage, it’s an emotion!” Prachi Bansal, Student

“Being a Hyderabadi by birth, one thing I can say for sure is that the food which is served on each and every street here is the BEST. Be it from a small shop in the corner of my street or a huge 5-star hotel, the dishes are always packed with flavours and represent the rich culture of Hyderabad.” Krithi Gurajada, Student

“Hyderabadi food has been quite a huge difference for me, being from Assam where the food is blander in comparison to Hyderabad and less spicy. Assam might be home to the hottest chilli but then, the spicy Hyderabadi food still makes me sweat! I guess if I were to talk about Hyderabadi food the only thing that comes to my mind always is obviously biryani. All sorts of biryani combinations are available from traditional tastes to modern improvisations. From mutton to prawns to chicken, or the most questionable Veg Biryani. I think Hyderabadi food always has a little something for everyone!” Eesha Singh, Student. TULIP - JANUARY, 2020 33

Raseeka 2019 was overall a great year for me, especially in terms of my work. I got the opportunity to work with a lot of talented and experienced individuals and had some major achievements that I never expected. I think my work is one reason I’m pretty excited for 2020, because there are a few targets I have set and I can’t wait to work towards those and also see what else is in store for me! 2019 has also been the year where numerous millennials came out there, set up their own ventures and started doing what they truly love. That’s another thing I really hope I get to see more of in 2020 and all the years to come. The coming year is also when I’ll be graduating from college (NIFT), a bitter-sweet moment but more so a proud one, which I’m really looking forward to! And of course, implementing all the wonderful things I’ve learnt from all the people I’ve met this year, and aiming to be a better human.

| COVER STORY

Harjit Kaur This year is special because it marks the end of a decade and marks the beginning of my very own salon in Hyderabad. I believe in making resolutions that are practical, doable and those that take me closer to my life goals. My first resolution would be to live every single day with gratitude. A lot of people haven’t made it alive to see this day and hence we should never take our lives for granted. So I resolve to live every single day with gratitude for being alive and healthy and having the means to live the life I want. This year I want to enrich my life holistically. Save more, spend less. Spend more on experiences, than on materials. Spend on things that I need rather than what I want. I pledge to listen to my body more carefully this year and in the coming years, nourish it with better nutrition, exercise and adequate rest. Align myself better spiritually. And work on my emotional quotient. Expect less and accept more. Spend more quality time with family and friends and be more focused on work than I have ever been.

Sharon Aamir This new year will be extra special as it’s not just a start of a brand new year but the start of an altogether new decade. Before jumping to resolutions, I feel we must first be thankful that we have lived another beautiful year, survived through the obstacles and were blessed to stay alive, as not many people are lucky enough to witness another year in their lives. Also, we are living and thriving in a world which is constantly changing and throwing challenges at us. Given that, we also have to face the economic struggle and other communalism issues in a country like India. So I feel each one of us should first develop the attitude of gratitude. Our resolutions should focus on growth; making sure that there is at least one development in our lives. Be it in the health department, family department, financial department and finally towards society as well. It is not easy balancing all these areas of our lives, but with the start of a new year, I believe that if I put my mind to it, I can experience growth in all aspects. And if anytime I feel I can’t cope up with the challenges of the new decade, I am gonna pause and ask myself How is the Josh?

Karen I am not a big fan of new year resolutions because I practice a lifestyle of moderation all year round and that’s what I teach people to do. Fundamentally most people get excited or desperate to make resolutions hoping that the year to come would be a better one. My resolutions run all year long and I do my best to keep them. I know very few people who stick to their commitments when they resolve to this way. That said it’s not that one must not make resolutions, it’s a personal choice to attempt to straighten your life out or put your life in perspective and every effort made for that is valuable whether successful or not. I do however thank God for the year gone by and pray for a safe, healthy and happy year to come. I make time to reflect on what I have done this year and how I could be better in future. My resolutions that run all year round have a lot more to do with my peace of mind, than physical things such as I give up on something. It’s resolutions to be better in ways I haven’t been before, to rest more, try and manage life’s stresses better, be a more relaxed parent etc. I find it very funny when people over do something only because they have resolved to give it up in the new year and I always tell them it’s unlikely you will stick with it. Detachment from things we consider not good for us happen over time not sporadically if it’s to be sustainable. 38

Once the sun sets and the moon takes over the sky, hundreds of kites carrying candles also known as Tukkals, paper lanterns are sent high up in the sky which illuminate the dark sky and fill it with a breathtaking view!

Makar Sankranti San is a very auspicious day in Hindu customs. The festival is an important impo occasion to mark the end of dark phases and the beginning b i i of a new phase in our lives. The local traditions during Sankranti are very popular which we follow diligently. This auspicious festival is celebrated four days in the month of Shravana (January). The first day is known as “bhogi”. At dawn, we light bonfire (popularly known as “Bhogi manta”) Girls dance along the bonfire in praise of the lord and the harvest. The second is the main day of all four and is known as “makar sankranthi”. On this day people we wear new clothes, cook traditional food and offer it to the god. We decorate our house with flowers and mango leaves. It`s a tradition to decorate the entrance of the house and streets with muggu (colourful floor art work). We fly kites making the sky beautiful! Another important custom is cock fight between two cocks. The third day is known as kanuma. It is the main day for farmers as they pray for their cattle with respect and love. A haridasu goes around and sings songs of lord Vishnu and we give grains to him from our new harvest. The last day is called mukkanuma. This dayy is mainly for the non-vegetarians getarians. Sahiti Raju, Student.

Sankranthi nkra is a festival mainly celebrated by South Indians. W We cook a lot of food in our house, the traditional Sankranti specials like pulihora. We celebrate it for three days. The first day we get up early in the morning, take a bath and set up a bonfire. We get rid of all the unused wooden items lying around our house. It’s the beginning of another year according to the Hindu calendar,, so we spend time together as a family; it’s the best way ay to kick kic off New Year! Surya Gurujada TULIP - JANUARY, 2020 43

Plan(t) your interiors the right way!

Analyze your space The very first trick into giving a makeover to your home is to first deeply study it, and then understand how to go about it. Analyze the room or rooms that you want to give a makeover to. Keep in mind the things which you do not like and would want to eliminate. Understand the kind of lighting the room receives and which plant should be placed where to get the best out of it. Once you know the basics of the space that you want to re-design, it’ll be easy to identify the problems and know how to fix them.

Pay attention to the amount of light your house receives. Your home has specific lighting conditions that will affect your plants’ health. Understand the type of plants you will need and place them according to the environment surrounding your house. You may have to place a certain kind of plant under the shade while some other plant may require partial sunlight. When you keep in mind the basic need of your plants, they will surely thrive and provide you with freshness throughout.

Fill in the gaps The best part about using plants for interior decoration is that they come in all sizes from small desk-sized to large room-sized. Depending on your personal requirements, choose plants that will fit into the designated space and see how it works wonders. You cannot always clamp up the room with furniture and so a plant will fit-in perfectly to fill in that particular corner of your house and it will no longer look incomplete.

Plant-wall Bored of that everyday look of your house? Revamp it with a vertical garden. It is a living wall with a collection of wall-mounted plants. Vertical wall gardens are the latest trend in home design and are the perfect way to bring a bit of the outdoors in. Living walls are not only beautiful but great for the air quality of your home too. Choose a design of your liking and adorn it with exquisite plants that will suit your environment.

Just hang ‘em! If you’re having a hard time deciding a place where you can add a plant, or if your floors are already filled to the brim then, this hack is for you. Bushy, trailing ivy plants work best if you’re looking for a show-stopping plant for your living room. Airier plants, on the other hand, are better if you don’t want to maintain long leaves and prefer a minimalist look.Apart from plants, there are also hangers or containers that you have to choose from. Go for a trendy macramé to hold your plant or simply club up a few together for a unique garden look.

Centre of attention! Want a centerpiece for that very elegant dining table? Invest in a plant and you are never going to regret it. Use a one-of-a-kind pot or go for those trendy geometric ones, or get a white pot and paint it yourself! Get creative and add lively colours to your room to accentuate its look.

Decorate your hallways Your corridors and hallways are a very important part of your house and solely are capable of making or breaking the look of your house. Choose wisely as the moment a person enters your house, the very first thing they come across is the pathway that leads into your home. Make it as fresh and welcoming as possible. Let your guests come home to the beauty and freshness of plants every time they come for a visit! TULIP - JANUARY, 2020 45

| INTERIOR “Plants in interior designing are generally used as we tend to relate to natural things. It gives a certain kind of connectivity with the world outside. Even when you are staying indoors you can stay connected to nature. And it is always an added element when you have natural grass around you. It gives a serene look to the whole place.” Komal, Interior designer K Design Studio

Decorate your balcony This is a great place to grow plants that need more sunlight. Use the place to its maximum to decorate it with fresh green plants and colorful flowers to change the look of your balcony. Decorate the railing with climbers or use them to cover up the walls that surround your balcony for that surreal effect. “Well plants are not just a mere décor item or an accessory which adds beauty to the interiors, they are the soul of the nature that exists in the world, which creates a lively environment in the surroundings. It appeals to an overwhelming ambiance to the users as well as space. Adding plants can act as a natural therapy that could enhance the physical and mental health conditions. They create a calm and soothing ambiance which leads to a productive environment. Apart from this, plants help your mind focus, which is an important aspect of the current generation. Some of the indoor friendly plants are lemongrass, bamboo palms, Hyacinthus orientalis hyacinth, arena pal, dwarf coconut, asparagus, begonias, passiflora, gerbera, pollinia, bonsai plants, heartleaf, hibiscus, lilies, mums, golden pothos, Tulips, etc. It all depends on the user preferences, regional conditions and the maintenance required.” Pooja Sri Mungi, Interior designer. “If there is one thing, we as Landscapists want to do; it’s got to be reinventing how people look at the green spaces in their world. We believe in fusing spiritual, aesthetic and modernity into our landscape designs. To put it in a nutshell, we pen down that future homes would be built around a garden instead of the other way around. The essence of plants being merged with the interiors is to add warmth and bring a certain connection to the soul of life, our living spaces. They serve as a reminder of nature’s wild beauty, acting as air purifiers to detoxify and bring coolness to your home. Being landscapists, we believe every indoor plant of the house is no different from the other living members of the home. A major piece of advice I could give is that when you are taking care of indoor plants always be passionate. To look beautiful and contented we try to groom ourselves in different ways; similarly, bringing in to merge different elements of decor through indoor greens will enhance the outlook of indoors- Aesthetic lung space.”

Sravanthi Kolluri Principal Architect and Managing Partner EssEnn Architects

“Indoor plants make the space more appealing and alive. They can be used as accent pieces or to soften areas or even to create a certain expression. Indoor plants enhance the look of your home and make them unique. It spreads a healthier vibe and it surely is more connected with nature. The most important thing clients need to keep in mind is that plants provide a lot of health benefits. And the right indoor plants can make a big difference in your mood, your stress level, your sleep quality and will surely improve the quality of air you inhale.”

Dogs are truly a gift to us humans, given how pure they are as living beings and how they teach us to be more empathetic, affectionate and emotionally intelligent. I love my two fluffy girls, and enjoy dressing them up for special occasions in baby clothes from mother care, especially during the winters, when they’ve had a haircut and find the weather chilly. Its French legacy is preserved in its French Quarter, with tree-lined streets, mustard-colored colonial villas and chic boutiques. Where to stay: Le Dupleix Situated in the heart of old French Quarter of Pondicherry, Le Dupleix was made as an ode to best of French architecture in Pondicherry. Le Dupleix- named after the last governor of Pondicherry, is an architectural charm that echoes in every hallway and room, every detail at Le Dupleix has a story to tell. The 18th - century hotel has been beautifully restored and stylishly furnished with the help of INTACH, an architect, sculptor and textile expert who restored the woodwork to its former glory and assisted Mr. Dilip Kapur to make it place that is revered by modern travellers. Le Dupleix is a fantastic mix of the traditional and the modern, and has a quaint forgotten in time feel to it. The hotel displays authentic woodwork, antique textiles lent by couture embroidery master Jean Francois Lesage and a custom design stone courtyard. The top floors shows an interesting contrast of intricate wood work and clean modern lines with glass. The restoration of the ancient building, which took a full 4 years, has been done entirely following the traditional methods of construction and finishing of the 18th century. The architects and the contractors immersed themselves in a study of the old techniques of construction which has more to do with the way high quality hand craftsmanship takes place than modern construction methods. | TRAVEL Room: Every room is different; every detail in each room has been specially thought out and designed for that room alone, with the end result being a hotel that surprises at every corner. All 14 rooms are unique in style and furniture but strongly in touch with their French colonial history. Every room is independently air-conditioned and in each room they provide an executive writing desk, internet connection, cable TV, minibar, safe deposit locker, tea/coffee maker and international direct dial telephone. Le Dupleix offers 2 superior rooms, 4 deluxe rooms, 5 luxury penthouse, 3 and luxury suites. Stay in one of their luxury suite, located on the first floor. An exquisite room with wooden flooring, a beautifully carved bed with inlaid tiles at both ends. The room features a mezzanine with a wood staircase leading to an extra bed upstairs. Besides a balcony, facing the quite leafy street below, the room comes with a magnificent swing in the outside porch.

Food - Le Dupleix is known for its fare of sea food and Creole cuisine. When you think of Pondicherry the food that comes to mind is either Tamilian or French, but traditionally it’s the creole cuisine that is local. Le Dupleix and Pondicherry have a very complex, diverse and cosmopolitan culture and at their restaurant they bring it all together- blending heritage and tradition and giving it a modern twist. You will see the menu is essentially influenced by creole cuisine, from Pondicherry and all across the world where the French and local, tropical culture mixed. There a lot of influence from New Orleans which has done more exciting cuisine than any other part which is influenced by the French, you see that in dishes like Gumbo, Creole Crab Cake, Soba Noodles, Creole Shrimps, Sea Food Grills, Crepe Suzette and a lot more. 64

Onions make an entry into the jewellery sector! After the sudden increase in onion prices, the country has taken over the internet and is ranting over the same through creative memes. Another similar episode happened recently with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Akshay Kumar, who were shown a pair of earrings made of real onions over the Kapil Sharma Show. Akshay Kumar, as thoughtful as he has always been, immediately knew that this would make a perfect gift for his beautiful wife, Twinkle Khanna. Twinkle Khanna then took over her Twitter handle to express her feelings regarding the recent gift from her husband. She uploaded a picture of the exquisite piece of jewellery gifted to her and also gave him the Best Present Award. She seemed very touched by this. She said, “My partner returns from performing at the Kapil Sharma show and says, ‘They were showing this to Kareena, I don’t think she was too impressed, but I knew you would enjoy them so I got them for you.’ Sometimes it’s the smallest things, the silliest things that can touch your heart. #onionearrings #bestpresentaward.”

ENTERTAINMENT | Ramya Krishna gives discount to Puri After the mega success of the Baahubali Series, every major actor involved in it has gained an extra huge fanbase and recongnition. The same is the case with Ramya Krishna, who plays Sivagami in Baahubali. After Baahubali, the actress is said to be charging anywhere near 6-10 lakhs per day if she likes the script and is allotting nearly 10-15 days for a film. That means she will easily be taking home at least a crore. But now, the talks doing the rounds is that she has an exception for a few films or a certain director/producer. Ramya is said to be charging considerably less remuneration for the film “Romantic” by Akash Puri, that is being produced by Puri Jagan and Charmi. She’s also likely to be part of Vijay Devarakonda’s ‘Fighter’ and the actress is said to be taking home less than 50 lakhs. Many say that Ramya is confident that Puri will give her a second break after Baahubali as the director is known for writing strong and bold roles for mothers in his films. People find that a strong reason for her not charging as much from a particular producer.

Record- breaking IPL Auction

The IPL auctions that happened at Kolkata had a few surprise elements in it. Pat Cummins, Australian Pacer was returned to Kolkata Knight Riders for a jaw-dropping Rs 15.5 crore and becomes the most expensive foreign signing in the history of the T20 league. He is also the second most expensive player in the history of the IPL auction, after Yuvraj Singh, who was signed by the then Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crore in 2015. The last time Cummins featured in the IPL, was in the year 2017, where he claimed 15 wickets for the Daredevils. However, an injury ruled him out of action for Mumbai Indians in the 2018 season and he was released before the following year’s auction. Another surprising buy of the auction was the 17 year-old Yashaswi Jiaswal. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s struggle story is now wellknown all over India. The 17-year-old, who once sold pani-puris for a living is now a millionaire as Rajasthan Royals snatched Jaiswal up for Rs 2.40 crore in the auction.

MOVIES Movie Reviews DABANGG 3

This is the third instalment of the ‘Dabangg’ franchise, and the audience is well-acquainted with the larger-thanlife, lovable cop and his world. Chulbul (Salman) spends his average day romancing his wife Rajjo (Sonakshi), troubling his brother Makkhi (Arbaaz) and fighting and reforming goons. A huge chunk of the first part of the film is about his younger days, his love interest – the beautiful and naive Khushi (Saiee) – and the circumstances that urged him to turn over a new leaf and become Robinhood Panday. There are a lot of whistle worthy moments in Prabhudeva’s ‘Dabangg 3’ for Salman Khan fans, one inevitably being him taking off his shirt, flaunting his well-toned, perfectly-greased body while he beats up the goons to pulp. The action is raw and solid, however, some action scenes are unreasonably stretched. While the story is clearly predictable, in this one again, Salman’s star power, swag and style remain intact. There is an attempt to infuse comedy in the story, but it seems rather forced. The storyline is not cohesive and the narrative is loosely strung together.

JUMANJI: NEXT LEVEL Directed by Jake Kasdan “Jumanji: The Next Level” continues the Jumanji franchise with yet another entertaining and hilarious instalment. While the film drags, there are plenty of fresh elements that keep the film interesting. The acting is terrific, the jokes land most of the time, and the plot is adequate. The movie talks about four students who play with a magical video game and get trapped into the Jungle world of Jumanji. Those who re-enter the Jumanji Universe in the sequel go through an act of sheer confusion where they find themselves in mismatched characters. When other bouts of body exchanges follow, it intends to be hilarious but most of the cast including Dwayne Johnson aka ‘The Rock’and Kevin Hart fail to pull off the differences and are rather inconsistent. This was the third movie of the Jumanji franchise.

VENKY MAMA Directed by K.S Ravindra This movie is a typical ‘family drama’ where the hero has been given umpteen opportunities to flex his muscles. It is a flimsy love story where there is clash between good and evil. Director KS Ravindra aka Bobby’s latest piece of work, Venky Mama seems to be stuck in an era where filmmakers can’t think beyond the usual ‘song-fight-sentiment’ formula, and the result is an over-the-top, melodramatic movie. Venkata Ratnam aka Military Naidu (Venkatesh) loses his sister and her husband in a car accident and decides to raise his orphaned nephew Karthik (Naga Chaitanya) as his own child. The duo become inseparable, so much so that Karthik rejects job opportunities in London so that he can stay with his mama and Venkata Ratnam stays a bachelor because women don’t love his nephew the way he does. They also set each other up with women using laughable, juvenile tactics, which inexplicably seem to work. However, there are evil forces at play that tries to break up this uncle-nephew combo. Nevertheless, the performance of the lead actors, Venkatesh and Naga Chaitanya in the movie are rather exceptional. Venky in particular is at ease and aces the role of the doting uncle.

| TAROT Aries

Taurus

Gemini

Mars, your ruling planet, has a lot to tackle early on in 2020, from broadening cultural horizons to achieving professional goals and expanding social networks. Good thing your energy and enthusiasm are practically unlimited! But practically is the key word here. Overdoing it could catch up with you by the time.

It’s time to take matte into your own hands! Just be aware of any potential risks, and be sure it’s really your heart’s desire before going all in. Face it, Taurus, you’re evolving. And this year, the effects are rippling out into all areas of your life. It’s exciting, but can be disorienting for you an everyone else.

From, the love goddess herself is helping you cultivate greater self-love and reconnect with the things that bring beauty, pleasure, and value to your life. The important thing is to stay focused on conserving your energies, not scattering them. This could mean changing some plans, dropping some projects.

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

And this year, Cancer, she’s serving up a double dose of moon magic. With two new moons in your signs, you get two chances to start your personal “new year” off on the right foot. You’re even more likely than usual to pick up on other people’s subtle, nonverbal cues—just don’t rule out the possibility that you’re projecting your own stuff onto them.

It may not be quite the adventure you had in mind, Leo, but this journey of self-discovery promises to be very exciting! With two of the year’s most powerful conjunctions also happening in this disciplined sign your sixth house of health—it’s time to get serious about taking care of yourself, body, mind, and spirit.

’s time to teach to take responsibility for your own happiness by structuring your life in a way that supports greater creativity, spontaneity, and joy. This means letting go of any fears and judgments keeping you from living life to the fullest. It also means saying “yes” more often to your inner child.

Libra

Scorpio

But as 2020 begins, you may find yourself retreating back into the cocoon. You’ll need a safe space in which to process your emotions with Jupiter conjoining Pluto three times this year. If all this seems heavy, Libra, have no fear. Your ruling planet Venus balances the scales by spending extra time in easy.

With your ancient ruler Mars beginning the year in philosophical Sagittarius you’re motivated not only to answer these questions, but to act on them. After all, with “I desire” as your sign’s motto, you’re not messing around! Still, enough to know that true ess won’t be found “out e.” It’s an inside job.

Sagittarius The time is now, Sag. With Mars in your sign at the start of 2020, you’re ready to step more fully into your personal power. But to truly seize the moment, you’ll need to let go of whatever’s weighing you down. You can start by taking responsibility for the energy you’re giving out.

Capricorn

Aquarius

Pisces

With Saturn, Pluto, a Jupiter all converging in your sign at the start of 2020, you’re definitely in the hot seat. How do you stand it? Ironically, not by “going hard,” but by softening, opening, and accepting. Through it all, take good care of yourself so body, mind, and spirit can support and sustain you.

It’s not about following anyone else’s rules! It’s about consciously choosing to stay within the limits that foster greater health, safety, wellbeing, and happiness for you. The truth is, Aquarius, having limits makes it easier— not harder—to express your individuality.

With boundary-blurring Neptune as your ruling planet it’s not always easy to tell. But if it feels like you’ve lost your vibe, 2020 is time to take it back! As a water sign, you need some kind of “container” to give your life shape and you will have opportunities to find one through participation in groups.

CARD 2: STRENGTH When this card appears in a reading, you possess the beginnings of a solid foundation. Yours is a very realistic dream. It is one you’ve known for a long time. The card is the power and strength to put your old life behind and start over again in some way. Dreams do come true if you let them. Today you might find a relationship that has real substance, if your wish involves love. Go for it and you will surely succeed!

CARD 3: THE TOWER Today is the day to begin to reverse old tapes and old defences. Unlock the barriers that keep the very people and things you wish for out. Erase the “I can’t” tape playing over and over in your head. Stop blaming others. You want something to happen. You have to do everything necessary to produce the result. This is a new day and you are dedicated to experience satisfaction in your life.
