Women and their love affair with saree The sari is a traditional garment worn by most Indian women. Although at present there is a lot of western influence in the way people dress. Today, sari comprises over 30% of total textile production in India. There is something about the sari that makes a woman look dignified, charming and every bit stylish. Over the years, the sari has evolved into a fashion statement, which most fashion designers glorify the look and feel of this traditional garment. - By Masooma Fatima

An Anchor, Actress, Producer, Dancerour cover girl is multifaceted! Niece to Chiranjeevi and cousin to Ram Charan Tej, Niharika surely does belong to a family of superstars but has created a place for herself in Tollywood by all on her own terms. We recently had a hearty conversation with this diva and spoke all about her likes, dislikes, inspirations, crushes and lots more! 38 JUNE, 2020 TULIP
- As told to Masooma Fatima
With ‘Mad house’ series happening so well, Can we hear any updates on your upcoming projects? I’ve signed a Tamil movie with a debutant director, Swathini and starting Ashok Selvan. We are currently also working on a couple of other web content on OTT platforms. If you are not born in Konidela family, what profession would you choose? I really enjoy acting, so whether or not from the Konidela family, I would’ve been into acting. Maybe not films but surely into theatre or something. Who is the best inspiration in your family? Chiranjeevi Garu will always be my biggest inspiration. Is it so stressful to be an actress as well as a producer? How do you manage both? Frankly, sometimes it is stressful. But I just take a minute to calm myself down and sit and peacefully finish the work. Time allotment is very crucial. Which I learnt the hard way. While your web series making its way to success. How do you filter your script choices? I love this career because I love being the
story teller. Either as a producer or as an actor. Initially, I’ve selected scripts solely because I liked the character but I understood that I need to see from the audience perspective and select scripts that excite me as well as the audience. Before deciding on a project whose advice would you like to take? I usually take my dad’s advice but my brother Varun is also very helpful with my script selection. You have been producing web – series, in future do you plan to produce a film as well? Like I said earlier, I love telling stories. If I think the subject needs to be portrayed on the big screen then I surely will produce feature films. But now, I don’t think there is much of a difference between the money/ effort and hard work put into both feature films and web content. What exactly are your expectations from industry? I like it when an industry has a good mix of all kinds of films. As the audience is concerned, we have people who enjoy a no- brainer kind of comedy film, we have an audience that

enjoys a very intense thriller film, we have an audience that enjoys female-centric films and we also have people who enjoy romantic comedies/ action. The same way I see our industry having a very healthy mix of films. And for people to understand that it is a medium of entertainment and it should not be taken offensively. Did you feel nervous while working with ‘Chiranjeevi Garu’? Oh yes! Thought I didn’t have a dialogue with him, I knew that he was supposed to look at me during that scene. And I have jitters. But the good kind!
You have worked in both web – series as well as films, which do you prefer to work further? As long as the content is reaching a wide number of audience and is being appreciated, I genuinely don’t mind either of the platforms because OTT platforms like Netflix and Amazon have their own large number of audience equivalent to the number of people who go to the theatres to watch the films. So I don’t mind either.
Rapid-fire 5 things that you always carry in your bag? Atleast 3 lipsticks Tissue paper My wallet My phone Hand cream Your celebrity crush? Suriya Chocolates or Sweets? Sweets Favourite movie? Shankardada MBBS What sport do you enjoy watching? Cricket Biggest fear? Lizards Favourite Superhero? Hulk and Iron man! Can’t choose one.

COVID WARRIORS The Perspective Of A Doctor BY Dr. Abdul Wasie (MBBS / F-UNESCO)

hat about the front line medical workers? What about their families? What about their children? Why do they wake up every single day and walk into their own deaths knowing that something could happen to them and in a snap their loved ones would be all alone. Hence I write this article from the perspective of a doctor who is in the face of the fire and busy helping those in need- I would like to name them as the “COVID WARRIORS”. One fine day when we were on duty it was officially announced that Corona has become a pandemic and we need to start treating COVID – 19 patients. To be honest, it wasn’t a really a shock as we knew it was lurking upon us and there it was. We got trained, prepared ourselves with the necessary information and equipment. Adorning our PPE’s and marched into the ER as if it were any other day leaving aside our inhibitions. And then, there it was… every patient that walked in, 40 JUNE, 2020 TULIP
transferred in or brought in an ambulance was a suspect. Suddenly our way of looking at patients changed, our perspective changed; although we had our own questions whether to go near them or not, whether to talk or not and again all those “What If ’s”. We had no clue who is who, where they might have come from, whom they might have been and with whom they might have interacted with, yet we chose to go near them and ask all the necessary questions. We didn’t think about anything all that mattered to us then as they were our patients and we needed to treat them. I would like to share the story of a fellow warrior who was in-charge of conducting public screening; little did he knew that he was actually stepping into a pool of people filled with positive cases. As he was sharing his story, he said “I remember being excited and energetic but the moment I saw the people I was scared,
COVID -19 or CORONA… these are words which everyone dreads. It has become a nervous compulsive habit to keep checking the current numbers, silently praying for the decline to begin. The panic stage is such that the sloppiest of people are thinking of how to disinfect or sanitize their surroundings. #stafehome, #staysafe # socialdistancing this is what the common man is busy with, trying to save his life and his loved ones. However, while we were all busy thinking about protecting ourselves and keeping our families safe how many of your have given thought to those people who are taking care of those infected? I didn’t have clarity anymore. I remember calling my dad and informing him who was a bit hesitant yet he understood why I was there and what I was supposed to do”. The thought that ran through my mind while interviewing him was being a father myself, I would only think in the best interest of my child. Just imagine the predicament and all the courage it must have taken for this father to let his son go ahead and continue. Like a soldier’s father who supports his son to fight on the battlefield, keep guard until victory prevails, the families deserve being equally saluted. Another story worth sharing is of a doctor who interviewed 4 people; two children- a 2 year old and a 3 year old and two adults-
EXCLUSIVE |
a pregnant lady, and an old lady who had a great impact upon him. The old lady was admitted and tested positive but all she could think about was her husband who kept insisting “it has been two weeks, since I saw him, I don’t know how he is”. The reason she made such an impression on the warrior’s mind was because even in the midst of this difficult time she wasn’t thinking about herself or her health or the fact that she was fighting this fight all alone. Hence the doctor decided to spend time with her even though this wasn’t a part of his duty, especially since she was a COVID positive patient he could have chosen to stay away and let it be, yet he chose his humanity over the virus. When asked about what would he like to say to his fellow warriors, he said “You knew you were choosing medicine, you might have never thought that you would have to deal with such a virus, but isn’t this the same reason we became doctors? To help people, to treat people. If you are afraid of a virus then don’t be, because it’s going to be there with us for a long time. If you want to be scared, then be scared of how you are going to treat the people, don’t let them feel left alone or not relevant;
because tomorrow it could be one of us, hence be there, treat them and make them feel safe. Make them feel important”. Let’s say you never had any patients who were positive; entire 3 months and zero patients and suddenly one day a patient turns out to be positive. This story is about another warrior who was involved in looking after suspected COVID cases, he walks onto the floor and gets ready, does his rounds, writes his handover and is about to end his shift, his phone rings and he gets the shocking news he could have never imagined- “Sir, the patient is tested positive for COVID”. As I know him personally, and I knew how outspoken and active he is, that day, that moment all I could see was dumbfounded silence. He stood at the door and gestured towards me and I knew something was off. He mentioned about the patient who was tested positive, but honestly if you ask me to describe my experience I would be speechless, hence I am in no position to describe his. All the “What if ’s” became true, now the question that he was asking to himself was “What Do I Do now?” He went ahead and told the unwelcoming
news to the patient’s attenders, he had to maintain his distance and he couldn’t even console them, he wasn’t there for them during this hour of need. He says “Has Corona divided us so badly, that we have to question all our morals?” There are many such warriors out there, they have their stories, their share of experience. I was only able to mention a few of them. I want all of us including me to think about this “What does these warriors have to gain in return? Despite of all the ill comments and treatment why do we go back? Why do we chose our patients our over families? Is it because of the billable hours or fame, the answer is “NO”, it’s because we took an oath which says “DO NO HARM”!

Yet, we did get to see the beauty of it which we couldn’t amidst the pollution from automobiles and industries. Here we have brought to you the pictures of your dear City before and after the dreaded pandemic hit it. 42 JUNE, 2020 TULIP

FASHION | The rains are here which means you need to change your look to suit the weather as well as look stylish. Here’s how you can do it effortlessly.
Monsoon style tips for men to look fashionable in the rain
The first round of monsoon showers is the best. Everything looks fresh, clean and smells wonderfully earthy. After the punishing summer heat, you look forward to the gloriously cool and cloudy days, when you can curl up in your PJs and sip on a hot cup of tea while the rain works its magic. This is until all that excitement gets showered down into a muddy puddle that you stepped on your way to college and now your socks are moist and everything s sticky. Welcome to the not-so-glorious damp days when you dread wearing white tees and jeans lest you get rained down. Dressing for unpredictable weather isn’t easy and it always helps to know how to style your wardrobe for the season. While the grey days are here to stay, add sunshine by styling your wardrobe. - Peram Srija Reddy

Layering is key The golden rule for the season is knowing how to layer. The best part about layering is that you can modify your outfit to suit the weather depending on how hot, cool or wet it gets. Get onboard the sporty Athleisure trend with a pair of denim joggers or actif denim for ease and comfort.
Sandy Artist Makeup Artist
Using lightweight fabrics can be beneficial as they dry easily. Polyester won’t cling to your body and will dry quickly. Linen and knits should be avoided because they tend to shrink in water.
Instead of whites and pastels, make room for bright colours and bold prints. Vibrant hues of red, blue and yellow are ideal to beat the gloomy weather. They will not only jazz up your wardrobe but also brighten up your day. While pastels and whites make for attractive formal wear, the rains can create a mess by leaving stains and making them look transparent. Is your footwear ready to face the monsoon? With streets being mucky and waterlogged, it is likely that your favourite pair of leather shoes soak up water like a sponge and you might just lose them. While leather and suede are the two most common materials that men prefer to wear at the workplace, they can easily get damaged in damp weather. Switch to a pair of PU leather shoes, which are monsoon-friendly or wear floaters to work and keep a pair of leather shoes handy at work.

Ideally, denim shorts and chinos work best to prevent mud stains and rain splatters. Add a dash of colour to the grey days by sporting vibrant chinos and printed shorts and tees. Layer this with plain white shirt, checks or washed-out denim shirt for a relaxed vibe.
Tackling the rain is not an easy affair. Choose monsoon-friendly fabrics for your backpack. In case you have to carry your laptop to your workplace, look for bags that come with lightweight rain covers.
Ashwin Mawle Celebrity Fashion Stylist
Add to your style quotient by picking up transparent umbrellas over the coloured ones. Navigate the rain in style with this sturdy, multifunctional tool. While buying an umbrella, look for quality, style and durability. Trendy transparent windcheaters could be a perfect companion as it would flaunt your outfit and protect you as well. Comfort is the key for monsoons and hence, it’s important that you don’t go overboard with your style because you are anyway going to get drenched. Stick to monsoon-worthy causal style and pile on t-shirts with graphics, patterns, etc. that can take you from boardroom-to-bar. Take out your rugged jeans and you will be right on track.

Jacket and shoes A practical must-have for this season is a waterproof bomber jacket or a wind-cheater or a denim jacket. Umbrellas and hats are a great way to give a more debonair touch to your look. For shoes, you have a range of options, from boots to casual sneakers and rubber-soled penny loafers. Always carry your deodorant or perfume.
Since you are going to be outdoors all day long, a parka jacket is ideal to layer your attire during the monsoon. This trend comes handy because sometimes, even umbrellas can’t arm your style.
Preetham Jukalker Celebrity Stylist & Designer
Thumb rule to stay on point in rains is to own the right kind of fabrics that keep you sweat-free for hours. A button-down shirt in cotton fabric is exactly what your monsoon wardrobe needs. You can be experimental here with tropical prints as they vibe well with the weather. Couple your printed shirts with chinos and let your sartorial garb do the talking. It’s time to keep your oxfords and brogues aside for a while and opt for strappy sandals. While choosing this footwear, make sure the style you choose matches your formal wardrobe as well. In monsoons, your feet deserve a bit of air that closed shoes won’t promise. Strappy sandals are your best bet for the season. 48 JUNE, 2020 TULIP

“ Monsoon is around the corner and that means time to get all jackets out to layer it up with simple Casual fashion.
I personally like to wear my denim jackets over simple dark coloured T-shirts and denim shorts as they are very comfortable to step out in rains and always opt for rubber sneakers or crocs. Crocs can be colourful as you go very neutral with clothing. And if you want to stand out with an ultra fashion game then you gotta pin-up GUMBOOTS, they make the look complete with and casual attire. If it’s for evening look in monsoon keep your nice fancy bomber jacket with a elements T-shirt with jeans or high waisted pants be it for men or women. Match it up with colourful sock and sneakers.
”
- Preetham Jukalker
. . . .
A handy tip to ensure that your clothes survive the damp climate is to buy a set of air dehumidifiers for your closet. As drying isn’t as effective, avoid washing your denim often, as this causes the fibres to become weak. This is incredibly important because you spent a fortune on buying your laptop. You can get caught up in the rain anytime, anywhere. So get a bag that’s water-proof, sophisticated and of course durable. Sport a stylish accessory in monsoons but just make sure it is water-proof. A fashionable watch can be a part of your ensemble to take your casual game up a notch. Even if you’re under an umbrella, a fedora gives your look a jaunty but classic edge. With a suit and trench or a casual sports jacket, these hats never go out of style.
.
. .
Denim is the go-to clothing item for men but you may want to rethink this when the rains hit. Denim is one of the least water-resistant fabrics out there and that’s not the only complaint we have against them this monsoon. They take the longest time to dry and there’s nothing worse than sitting through a lecture, a movie or a meeting in soaked jeans. One of the best trousers for men is chinos, made from quick-dry, lightweight fabrics should be your best picks when it pours. Prefer darker shades like olive green, brown etc. for lowers and lighter ones for your uppers. Avoid light-coloured jeans/trousers, as they get stained easily. Easily washable shoes should be your go-to footwear choice during rains. Rubber flipflops, leather sandals, and ankle-length boots are some cool and manageable options.

An Ode to Superman
Celebrating Father’s Day “When you’re young, you think your dad is Superman. Then you grow up, and you realize he’s just a regular guy who wears a cape.” -Unknown If we were to write a million praises about our fathers it would be less, we cannot fathom the role they play in our lives, we learn a lot from them. We spoke to some awesome people from all over Hyderabad to tell us why this father’s day is special. - By Inas Inayath “My relationship with my dad has been easy breezy. My favourite memory with him has been our Sundays when he was off from work and would have this big smile the moment he woke up, he would either play a sport like cricket with me and my brother or he would take us to the pool where we would have breakfast together after a swim. We have all heard that anyone can father a child but being a dad takes a lifetime. Dads have a big job from disciplining and providing positive examples to their children so that tomorrow when they need you they should trust you enough with your advice. At the same time, my role as a father would be to make my son much more independent and someone with a free mind to actually be able to see life more closely than I have.
The best part of being a father is the feeling of selflessness and unconditional love that u can give and get from your kids. The way my son opens the door and screams when am back from work, his infectious smiles and excitement when he knows daddy is home, his special way of explaining certain things or situations, getting to watch him grow up and in the end, the best part is simply all of it. This time fathers day would be special as everyone’s home due to the lockdown situation, I will get to spend more time with my son (Ahaann) and also get to be around with my dad. The silver lining of this lockdown is that I have been able to spend a lot of time with my dad which I thought I ‘ll never be able to spend cos of the fast-paced life everyone has. I feel blessed to be able to be around him and spend quality time without being bothered about work or any social commitment. This fathers day is truly special”

SPECIAL | “A fathers role in a child’s life is un-matched to any. Considering my busy schedule as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, I make sure I try and spend as much time as possible with my two lovely kids. I do as much as I can in my capacity and capability to see them happy and flourishing well. So much so that, that I see them asking me to do things that kids normally would want their mothers to do. It’s heart-warming!. This lockdown period has been a blessing in disguise as it has given me the opportunity to maximise my time with my family, be it playing games, cooking for them or be it the disagreements and not to mention the fights which get resolved in no time. Its all part of the most joyous experience of being a father to the two most beautiful and understanding children one would have ever asked for. I can only hope that my kids look up to me as the best father they could have hoped for”.
Dr Karthik Pingle, Orthopaedic Surgeon
“My father was always a strict father growing up. I would shiver with just one glare of his. But fast forward all these years and today he is my Best Friend, my confidant. Whether it’s business decisions or any other pickle I’m in, He is always my “Go-To person”. My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person: He believed in me. “The quality of a father can be seen in the goals, dreams and aspirations he sets not only for himself but for his family.” So, This father’s day reminds me of how blessed and proud I am to be his daughter”
Cindy Agarwal, Designer “Being a father has been one of the best aspects of my life. I was never nervous, even for a bit when I found out I was going to be a father. I always was energised that I had to mentor beautiful souls to the best of my ability. I moved forward with not only the idea of taking mine or my family name ahead but also raising them to become contributing citizens of a great nation and make some remarkable difference in the world. I feel blessed with two fantastic children who are much better human beings, then I had envisioned. Both my boys are sensitively focused, and the best part has a human touch in anything they deal with create in any situation and that gives me the most significant contentment. For me, the best part of being a father is that the boys have always made me proud of their various achievements. I am not bothered about what they choose to become in life, rest assured that their foundation is so strong that they will be the best in whatever they pursue. This father’s day seems to be unique to me as both of my sons are going to be with me. Lately, we share and a new level of bonding and understanding due to the Quarantine.”

“When I think about my dad, the only thing I feel his strength. My relationship with him has evolved since the past few years especially after I lost my brother in 2015. Earlier I and dad wouldn’t talk as much, car rides would be quiet and we’d have awkward silences. But since we faced a loss as a family, it somehow brought us closer. I understand him so much more now and feel that we are so similar. I was a difficult teen, but no matter what- I always had my dad standing right next to me as strong as a rock! He still is.. staying away from home makes me miss him even more!”
Nadika Ravi, Social Media Journalist
“There’s a saying, “One wise father is better than a hundred schoolmasters” and it can’t be more accurate in my fathers’ case! For as long as I can vividly recall, I’ve seen my father put every principle he has spoken about into a reality. As kids, we imbibe what we see our parents do. So growing up, I have never once seen him change his ways or fall back on his own words! Hence, no one has been able to match my fathers’ footsteps to date, not even my brothers! Regardless of what and where my Dad has achieved success in life MashaaAllah, he has been the most humble man and loyal to his roots!. As a daughter, I’m continually trying to follow his teachings. And if I fail, then there’s always that odd bit of scolding! But I wouldn’t want it any other way! I feel every single one of us, credits our mothers for their dedication and relentlessly taking care of us. However, I don’t believe in celebrating one parent over the other. For all of us seven siblings and now their kids, we have celebrated both parents together every single day because one can NEVER hundred per cent take the place of the other. On this Fathers Day, under the circumstances given. The sufferings have just been increasing tenfold around us. And where did most of us find solace? It was under our Fathers shade, In their homes, Under their protection. Alhamdullilah. With food on our tables and comfortable home to live in during this forsaken times, I can credit and show utmost GRATITUDE to my Dad for it. Fathers genuinely want their kids to be well fed even if they sleep empty stomach. The power and love of a Father are unparallel. I pray all our fathers to stay healthy always because they are genuinely a BLESSING IN DISGUISE!”

•
Follow the same thing for a rectangular-shaped marble piece by drilling holes and inserting the other ends of the 2 rods into it and glue it.
•
You can paint it for adding extra esthetics and you’re good to go!

Steps: We will need a sponge, a small container, fabric paints and any new handkerchief or square sized piece of good quality cotton cloth- preferably a light-coloured one • Take the sponge and cut it into tiny shapes of your choice, it can be a star, circle, heart, anything you want. It can even be cut into letter shapes. Use your creativity! •
Glue this to a small container for it to act as a stamp.
•
Dunk the sponge into some paint from a pallet and stamp it on the handkerchief.
•
Most fabric paints require a wash after it’s completely dried. Check the instructions on the package of the respective paint you’ve bought.

istorically, makeup has been used for so many different reasons and has gone through such an interesting journey through cultures and eras. Way before makeup brands were introduced, I was a beauty junkie. Makeup always fascinated me and I kept experimenting and practicing since I was 17 years old. My Instagram feed is an endless stream of candy coloured eye shadows. Even offline, my addiction is apparent; my sisters jokingly nicknamed my makeup corner as “Sephora I always aspired to improve since it was my interest. I did my makeup course from FAD, Dubai. Still, there is no end to learning. Makeup was a confidence boost, but why stop at feeling good when you can go for great? Ideal makeup remedy is keeping it as natural as possible. Working the no-makeup look is my forte. Less is more, no-makeup look gives you the perfect blend of accentuating the features and yet adding that softnes.

Satpreet Kaur, Luxury Travel Blogger from Hyderabad shares her thoughts on what to expect in term of travel in the coming months.
Gulmarg, Kashmir
Patrika Gate, Jaipur I was a teenager when I first travelled to Europe; I loved every bit of it. Every summer we explored a new country and that’s when I fell in love with travelling. Then, there was this summer when I wanted to go Kashmir and I fell in love with my country and promised myself I would try and explore every bit if India. The experience of food, culture, architecture, history, music and people are much more satisfying in our country because it comes with warmth and hospitality of our people that in history has been noted to be the best. For time ahead travelling locally is our safe bet to calm our ‘Fernweh’ moments.
What to expect?
Everyone is going to be conscious, but what we fail to understand is that people, who are looking forward to welcoming us, are as concerned about their health as we are so no doubt there will be precautions. 62 JUNE, 2020 TULIP
People like you and I will be looking forward to a holistic experience, a staycation or a luxury getaway. Said that travel is going to be an expensive affair, a luxury that will need a well thought out plan, cautiousness for yourself and people around you, and most importantly it will bring back the joy of experiencing the journey and the destination.
Value in travel
We will no more travel for the gram but choose wisely for own experiences. We will do our research, indulge in the joy of anticipation and journey as much as the destination. We will take better care of the places we go, try and maintain the serenity of the place that nature has regained in the last couple of months. Support local art, food and activities because places that depend on tourists, have seen it most hard.

Travel Local
It’s time you explore the beauty and abundance of your country. You don’t have to traverse vast continents to see Icescape Mountains, Green Valley, Water In Ocean that changes colors with passing clouds, seashore as far as your eyes can go, golden deserts and architecture that stood test of time.
New Rules
Sunset in Shimla
Fresh air and escape to the wilderness will come with social distancing. You might need to show ID, as well as some sort of immunity document or health certificate when travelling internationally or highly contaminated zones. You will need to spend hours at the airport as both bags and people may need to get sanitized, and health checks become the new normal, the process of checking in and boarding might start taking longer. Avid travellers might opt to drive or take the train instead. Closing point- let’s stop wanting things to go back to normal. Things will be better, yet not the same. We need to be conscious travellers, make sure we don’t pollute, reuse those towels in hotels, be sensitive towards locals, anticipate the experience, because when you travel post all of this; it is going to be an unforgettable experience that you will cherish forever, just like your first. What one needs to do to have a good immune system in this Covid-19 scenario?
“
I endorse regular healthy diet; I only use intermittent fasting when it’s necessary.
Immunity is probably the most complex systems in our body, not just one thing. Example our airways, gut, even our skin and a whole spectrum of blood platelets and our cells each of them has their own job to do in our body trying to protect us from infection. We all have our own immune identity and it is based on genetics again. Of course, elderly people are more susceptible genes that encode these special molecules make us unique. Some people respond bad and very easily with particular types of germs. As we age our immunity slows down .but for kids when they are around the age of 12 and 13 when they expose to germs their immune system starts to understand how to work against them perform correctly. Germs are everywhere but they are not as dangerous as Covid. Make sure you teach them hygiene it is the key. We need different vitamins and minerals and macros, not just vitamin C (which became boom after Covid arrived). If you are deficient to certain Vitamins and minerals you are more likely to get infected. Just get your blood test done. To know which vitamins are you lacking. I think there are no quick fixes when it comes to immunity. If your immune system already lacks or has a problem you need to fix it. If your immunity is fine then you need to boost it. Good nutrition, Sleep, less stress and Exercise plays a key role.
Are there certain ages at which a body’s metabolism slows down and what one should do? If you have five out of six things you probably have a slow metabolism: 1. You are cold (feeling cold) all the time 2. Dry skin and dry hair 3. Headaches 4. Constipation 5. Cravings 6. Depression There’s no such thing as slowing down of metabolism unless you’ve decided to stop exercising & eating right. Your body slows down metabolic rate when it doesn’t have any reason to consume that much energy. If you want to keep your metabolism high don’t stop the exercise and eating right. Strength training with weights, Cardio (Dance/Zumba), Flexibility (Yoga). These aren’t bad stuff unless you know how to mix and correctly apply them.

How to have a well balanced diet?
For a healthy balanced diet, you can apply a technique called “plate method” think of it as a blueprint for your meals. Half of the plate should have veggies cooked or salad quarter of a plate of any protein meal dishes. Leave a quarter of the plate for carbs like rice or bread pasta etc. If you only eat rice and meat you just end up eating more calories I suggest everyone add veggies too.
What good nutrition is important? Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle, your diet makes you what you look like, Feel like and perform. And also good nutrition reduces your risk of chronic diseases. And no one wants to look ugly and die fat. You’ve got one life. Right?
The famous question which everyone asks how to loose weight? Yes, I often get messages and questions from a lot of people “how to loose weight?” the only thing which I want to say is it’s not about loosing weight but you loose fat, look good and healthy. No one cares how much you weight as long as you look good and fit enough to run at least 500 mtrs without getting tired. Anyhow you don’t walk around with weight scale all the time. Stick to an exercise program and diet technique which helps you to stay healthy and fit.
The best diet for a diabetic person should have? Some people think if one has diabetes they need to avoid all the carbs but it’s not totally correct. Your body needs energy through carbs. The trick is to maintain your sugar levels and try to eat starch-based carbs “sweet potatoes” or “roti”. Eat fruits in moderation; try to stick to animal protein. I think plantbased protein is not a good idea and maintain healthy BMI (body mass index).
Anything you would like to tell our readers? I just want to tell one thing to everyone that loosing fat or being fit is not for one day, you just need to make exercise as a daily routine. Don’t get fooled by fancy or fad diets and fancy tricks. Remember people used to look fit and strong even in the 1960s too and earlier to that. You just need to have physical activity, with a proper diet and yes try to avoid alcohol as much as possible or at least limit it and smoking is very dangerous and injurious to health it takes a toll on your health. FACE YOGA As the popular saying goes, “the first impression is the last impression” and first impressions can last for quite a while and make or break a person’s appeal. The first thing that anyone notices about you is your face. As it is important to keep your body active, healthy and in perfect shape, it is equally important to keep the face younger-looking and stress-free. The muscles of the face are no different from the muscles of the body. Ageing gracefully can be a dreaded statement in this era of facial creams and gels loaded with chemicals. But not many of us know that yoga is the answer to it all and by adding yoga to our daily life we can keep our skin naturally beautiful and youthful. And doing facial yoga or face exercises is a completely natural way to make your face look young and tone the muscles of it. We got talking with some of the yoga gurus around the city and chalked out some of their expertise for our readers.
- By Rashmi Tuteja
Kawaljeet Kaur,
According to The Founder At Muscle And Fitness Yoga Studio. Facial yoga is a form of yoga which is practiced using facial muscles. It plays a key role in keeping muscles of the face tighter, rejuvenated, fresher looking and younger just as yoga does to the muscles all over the body by giving oxygen to the facial muscles. She says, facial yoga is a way of life and she makes sure that all her students practice facial yoga routinely. She also adds some of the benefits of facial yoga. 1. It helps to slow down the aging process by stretching the face and getting rid of fine lines and eventually get a tight and toned skin. 2. It helps release tension and makes us calm, our sedentary lifestyle and sitting for long hours leads to excessive tension on the spinal cord, neck and core muscles. So, facial yoga helps release the tension in these areas and helps to relax. 3. Double chin can be eliminated by doing neck exercise in face yoga which will help in dealing with the stubborn fat on the chin. 4. You can easily get a naturally glowing skin and toned face muscles just by facial yoga so, you wouldn’t need to use any anti-aging surgeries and other chemical-based interventions. 68 JUNE, 2020 TULIP

She says that facial yoga is focused on relaxing and toning the face. Before one starts doing facial yoga one must first keep their eyes closed, spine straight and should focus on their breathing and ease their muscles. She also suggested some facial exercise one can practice at home. *The first step is to remain common in each of the poses.* Fish Pout (for a toned and sculpted face) Steps to be followed Step 1: Sit in Sukhasana or Vajrasana whichever is comforting. Step 2: Suck your cheeks inside and make a fish pout your lips are out and raise your neck up. Step 3: Inhale through the nose deeply. Step 4: Hold your breath for 20-30secs and then relax your eyes closed for 10 secs and then gently open your eyes. ‘O’ shape (for the neck) Steps to be followed Step 1: Sit in Sukhasana or Vajrasana whichever is comforting. Step 2: Make your mouth in an ‘o’ shape and raise your neck. Step 3: Inhale through the nose deeply Step 4: Hold your breath for 20-30 secs and then relax your eyes closed for 10 secs and then gently open your eyes. Contract lips/pout (for overall face) Steps to be followed Step 1: Sit in Sukhasana or Vajrasana whichever is comfortable for you. Step 2: Contract your lips as if you are kissing and look straight, feel the stretch on your face and lips Step 3: Inhale through the nose deeply Step 4: Hold your breath for 20-30 secs and then relax, your eyes closed for 10 secs and then gently open your eyes. Doing these few facial yoga daily will help you to reduce the excess fat from your face, will help in reducing the double chin and will tone your complete face and give you a natural-looking glow. IN THE LOVING MEMORY OF
Rishi Kapoor & Irrfan Khan
“Kahaani khatam hui aur iss qadar khatam hui ki log rone lage taaliyaan bajaate bajaate.”
Aren’t we all familiar with these lines? Not familiar, rather we know them by heart by now, but today the scenario is totally different, whenever we say these lines or hear someone else say them, we are nothing short of teary-eyed, emotional and heartbroken. To some of us these lines mean so much and should be so, they have been written for the two most beloved artists of Bollywood, the most phenomenal, talented and versatile actors of Bollywood who are none other than the most celebrated actors of the industry, some of us have grown up watching their films, danced all night to their songs and still don’t believe that they’ve left us. These are none other than Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan khan.
Irrfan Khan
a true gem of Bollywood and Hollywood left us with his last words “be kind to each other and wait for me”, an epitome of talent and wit, known to have pulled off all the roles he has done a plethora of films that have left the audience star-struck and which they have thoroughly enjoyed, Irrfan Khan was one of the most humble and down to Earth actors of Bollywood. It’s rare to find or meet such people today, it’s even rarer to talk to such people today, he has been successful in every aspect whether it was on screen or off-screen his films and his work have proved that he was a gifted actor and an even more pure soul, he fought all odds to make a mark in the industry, it took him a while to be accepted in the industry, but he strongly established himself as an actor and proved it time and again. His achievements are not hidden from anybody, he has been a Padmashri Awardee back in 2011, and also bagged the National Film Award for Paan Singh Tomar in 2013, and the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in the male category for Hindi Medium in 2018, a lot more to be added on that list though. Irrfan Khan’s great pieces of art show how effortless he was on screen and how gifted he was as an actor and all his movies have been so beautiful that not only did we enjoy them but somewhere deep down they also left a message and made us think whether it was in Piku, The Lunchbox or even in the Life OF Pie, he gained tremendous success. When we heard of his last audio message very evidently we were emotional and moved, it was a heart warming message. It’s ironic, though none of these artists was related to us, yet we feel so connected to them, we lost two souls in a span of two days and its heartbreaking. TULIP - JUNE, 2020 77

Rishi Kapoor,
Veteran actor also known as Chintu, an iconic film star ruled hearts for more than two decades, he was known for a lot many things apart from just being one of the most respected and magnificent artists of Bollywood, best known for being brutally honest, straight forward and candid in most of his interviews, his frankness was not hidden from anybody, he was greatly appreciated to have that kind of a strong attitude. Rishi Kapoor has played a myriad of roles in his films which were also so varied in character and spirit, from playing a teen madly in love in Bobby or a charming Akbar in Amar Akbar Anthony to a rockstar in Karz, then transitioning into a dreadful Rauf Lala in Agneepath, he pulled off all of these roles effortlessly, there was a pleasant aura about him, so much so that he achieved even more in his lifetime. In 1970 he won a National Film Award for Mera Naam Joker and later on won a Filmfare Award for best actor in Bobby in 1974 and finally bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, even today when we remember him we are not only proud but also happy that we got to watch him on screen and that’s marvellous, even in his supporting roles he made his presence felt.
The day Irrfan Khan passed away, I was heart broken. The whole world was. The social media went viral. That was the impact he created. Now, all we can do is rewatch his movies during the lockdown and cherish all the moments.” Tanisha Varma
“Actors bring characters to life, but legendary actors like Rishi sir and Irrfan sir live characters to the fullest and give a meaning to them, such that it imprints in our minds and hearts forever. On that last week of April 2020, we lost these legendary actors. They might have left us but they left behind a legacy that we will forever cherish when on screens we will laugh with them, cry with them, dance with them and sing with them always.” Kirnasha Chittam 78 JUNE, 2020 TULIP
“Sometimes when you come across Irrfan Khan’s videos the fact that a person is so happy, full of life, young and talented is no more doesn’t sink in, his films and his contributions will remain eternal in our lives and there was no one else who was as frank as Rishi Kapoor, he will forever continue to love in our hearts through his amazing work.” Tania Abraham
“Losing two of my favorite actors in a period of two days, makes me feel sort of heart broken. I know I never met them, but losing them so soon is indeed depressing. I hope wherever they are, they are happy and all my positive vibes to their families.” Sumaiya Aamira

BOOKS A Thousand Splendid Suns (2007)
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a breath taking story set against the volatile events of Afghanistan’s last thirty years, from the Soviet invasion to the reign of the Taliban to post-Taliban rebuilding that puts violence, fear, anxiety and hope in intimate human terms. Khalid Hosseini is an excellent story teller and this masterpiece proves it. The story revolves around two women, Laila and Mariam who are battling a common evil in their lives, the evil being their husband, these women are from completely different family backgrounds and upbringings but brought together by fate, story embarks on a journey of hardships faced by these women so realistically, the details of Afghanistan are so finely written, Khalid has so beautifully shown us the predicament of the women of Afghanistan through the eyes of Laila and Mariam. “yet love can move people to act in unexpected ways and move them to overcome the most daunting obstacles with startling heroism”.
The Great Gatsby (1924)
Written by F. Scott Fitzgerald , one of the greatest classics of the twentieth century literature. This exemplary novel of the Jazz age has been acclaimed by generations of readers. The story is of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his new love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of the lavish parties on Long Island, it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s. Simple yet so beautifully written this piece of literature is totally scintillating and nothing short of heart-rendering. Now considered a classic of American fiction and has often been called the Great American Novel.
The Namesake (2003)
Pulitzer Prize winner JhumpaLahiri’sThe Namesake is a story of an immigrant Bengali family living in the US – the Gangulies. It is a coming-of-age novel about an Indian boy who has been raised in America feeling the struggles of fitting the demographic of his culture as well as the nation he was born in. It follows the journey of this boy as he becomes a man and the many hardships of life as well as the harsh lessons of life. This is certainly a novel that explores the concepts of tradition and familial expectation- as well as the way that names subtly alter our perceptions of ourselves, a story of a man and his family , of his life and hopes, loves and sorrows. Lahiri honors a bond stronger, and more transcendent than either of those.

| TAROT Aries You’re not backward in coming forward when it comes to speaking your mind, and this is definitely the time at which you can safely air your views and opinions, and persuade others to take action to right some injustice, or cope with underhanded behaviour that needs to be eradicated.
Cancer Cancer with your usual display of sympathetic kindness you’ll be lending someone in need of moral support a shoulder to cry on. This will consume a lot of time during the first two weeks of June, but later on a more rewarding, lively and cheering influence will work for you.
Libra You’ll be in a very relaxed and pleasant mood and no doubt want to put things off, but if you let lethargy take over and rule your life you’ll be brought back to earth with a considerable bump. That would be a pity, because around the 24th of June you’ll be in a particularly strong position to shape life just as you want to see it.
Capricorn Don’t ignore minor aches or pains – especially if your knees are suffering. Keep moving, but cool it at the gym, and for a few weeks avoid any too demanding new exercise schedule or adding extra weights to the bar
Taurus Taurean emotions and tenderness will be particularly well-received by your lover, and you’ll experience some blissful moments and memorable occasions. This is the time to concentrate on well-proved techniques rather than experiments.
Gemini Until the end of June 2020, you should take serious notice of any well-sounding opportunities that come your way. Though if you accept the challenges which are offered there’ll be an element of risk involved, as long as you’re consciously cautious of any problems you’ll be delighted with the outcome.
Leo You’ll be using all your leonine flair to socialise and entertain people you know well and love – and a number of those less close to you will feature in the general enjoyment, too, with new contacts being made from overseas after the 12th. All this will be energy-consuming and leave you exhausted but satisfied.
Virgo Think about the future. Set your sights on new aspirations, ambitious and challenges. There are excellent opportunities for you to move forward at present, so in true Virgo style you should make a careful and detailed plan of action.
Scorpio Scorpio shrewdness – especially during meetings or while on business trips – will come into play, and you’ll eventually have reason not only to feel very pleased with yourself and your actions, but pretty smug too, not only at the eventual outcome but at the way any tricky negotiations were overcome with the assurance and delicacy of a praying mantis climbs a wall.
Aquarius Things really seem to be alright with your world at present. You’ll have fun and experience a whole lot of really brilliant events and interesting developments. You’ll be on a winning streak – whether chancing your arm at the casino or in a new relationship.
Sagittarius Sparks will fly between you and your partner – sparks which will ignite stunning firework display – exciting, breath-taking and quite delightful. The fireworks might include a little spat or two, probably over nothing. A flurry of unexpected events will add even more colour to your joint existence as the month ends.
Pisces You’re naturally intuitive, and at present this quality is particularly welltuned. Listen to what it’s telling you; trust it, but at the same time be a little sceptical, and don’t rush into taking action before allowing a measure of logical thought to balance your strong feelings.

Reading June 2020
Clear your mind, take a few Deep breaths and concentrate on the 3 cards in front of you with the below question in mind: “What are my intuitive/psychic gifts?”
Now choose one card and look below for the answer to your question:
CARD 1
CARD 2
CARD 3
CARD 1:
The Devil You are feeling that the temptation of a certain relationship, pastime or other form of pleasure is too hard to resist - it’s almost addictive. Question your motives, these sorts of situations aren’t generally good news. You may also have rather low self-esteem at this time and feel that there’s not much hope for the future. Don’t doubt your abilities - try to be more positive. Think carefully, you can still change direction.
CARD 2:
Wheel of Fortune The Wheel suggests that you’re looking for a turning point in your life and positive change, and if that’s the case expect it now! Life will go up a gear or two and events will accelerate you forward. Destiny is at play here - have you noticed a number of events that seem rather ‘coincidental’? This is synchronicity, trust it and go with the flow.
CARD 3:
The Sun You are afraid that things seem too good to be true, so much pleasure and joy - well enjoy it, sometimes we can be pleasantly surprised! If you have been unwell this is a time of rejuvenation and good health. Perhaps you are afraid that things won’t actually get better - have faith you are about to enter a happy and pleasurable time. The Sun heralds an ending to difficulties and a time to celebrate with friends and loved ones, a time of pleasure and good news around children or the conception or birth of a longed-for baby.
