Pulp Pressery

At Pulp Pressery they get fresh produce daily and juice them using the Cold Pressed Juicer and deliver them to you fresh they also have their own outlet which serves you all things healthy and yummy. “Me and my wife Jags are primarily Zumba Fitness Instructors and run classes across Hyderabad along with our team Dance Jockey. Jags is well known in the fitness circuit as she is first Zumba Fitness Jammer (Trained in Orlando, USA ) in the country training Zumba Instructors. I have done my ‘ Plate by Zumba’ Course which is a healthy eating program by Zumba and started doing lot of research on diet and nutrition. We stumbled upon coldpressed juicing technology and started having these healthy juices and smoothies on a daily basis. This led us to the fact that there is no proper healthy eating / juice cafes focused on good tasty and healthy food. We wanted to create a cafe where we “ourselves would like to eat” on a daily basis. That’s when the idea of pulp pressery was born.” Says Karthikeyan What kind of research did you do before starting it or any course in particular? We did a lot of experimentation on ourselves first. We didn’t do any market research because not much data was available with respect to our kind of menu. We felt that if we are able to eat at our own cafe then I am sure there are lot of people who would like to eat too. Tell us about the juices, what are you targeting on -- detox, diet or cleanse? We have different packages addressing people with different needs. We currently have packages for people who want to boost their workout, or a casual detox or a full cleanse. We also have subscription plan for someone who want to make it a habit to drink juice on a daily basis. What are the flavour or core ingredients of these juices? Ingredient of the juices differs from one another. However we make sure we add some super foods to each of the juices and make it more effective than the regular juices. What do you think about level of health awareness in Hyderabad? Surprisingly health awareness is high in Hyderabad. People don’t need too much explanation about our menu as they know a lot about super foods. Tell us about the price range and subscription module of your products. Price range for subscription packages start at INR 549 for up to 5000 for a month worth of juice. How is your brand different form the others that already exist in the market? Our brand is focuses on inculcating healthy eating through the day not just juices or smoothies. We have menu where people can start the day with healthy breakfast or have proper lunch or dinner with family and friends. Address: Plot, 407, Rd Number 81, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Ph: 07331130884

Tell us a little about your journey and passion? I started my career in corporate relations then moved into marketing and now working primarily with education, both as a profession and as a social cause. Though the perspective from which we approach these three domains are definitely different, if you notice, there is a common thread to all. Each of them have involved using my interest for people skills. I feel it has been a natural progression route that I took. Education gives me the flexibility to find the best work-life balance, while remaining connected to my children’s education. Learning with my children helped me see strengths and challenges of the system, giving way to patience to handle their queries and with it, the ideas that now you see

in the form of my strong association in the field of education. Now looking back, I realize that I have always loved children and through initiatives such as Oi Playschool franchise and Global Edcom Pvt. Ltd., I am happy that we are adding value to children’s education and young adults’ personal and career transformation. How is your normal day like? Your schedule? I am an early riser and start the day with meditation. Usually the first half of the day until 3 pm is spent at the school working closely with the centre head, teachers, and personally talking to parents whenever possible. I am usually back by the time my children reach home. Evenings are either at home with children or spent in social get-togethers with

LIFESTYLE for their educational fees, food, refreshments, clothing, tuitions etc.In the next five years, I see such and many more initiatives really creating the necessary impact in the lives of underprivileged children and women. What next for OI Playschool Banjara Hills? Having received an award by the Education World, we were listed 8th out of 200 preschools in Hyderabad, we are now on the growth path. As we grow, we truly have always stood out for our new initiatives. We will continue to do this, keep identifying new opportunity spaces that children to explore and experience, in turn helping each one of them learn better and truly enjoy their time spent at the school.

friends and family. What do you like to do when you are free/ in leisure time? I am into meditation & kriya yoga and I am a part of the Art of Living. I also enjoy travelling, meeting new people and learning about new culture and lifestyle. Tell us a little about OI Playschool Banjara Hills? I head one of the most successful OI playschool franchise located at Banjara Hills. In less than four years, we have grown tremendously. When I say grow, I do not mean by enrolment numbers alone, but by the number of initiatives we have taken for the children’s benefit. While, we follow the curriculum assigned, we have single-handedly initiated many supporting activities that further develop the children’s learning. To give an example: A recent initiative of Oi Playschool Banjara Hills included a ‘Little Show Stopper’ event where children were encouraged to showcase a talent where they individually excelled in. There is always an apprehension of being in unknown places and a stage, which was put to ease by involving parents as part of the show. Children were allowed to perform with support and guidance of the parents. This gave them the confidence to go up on the stage and showcase their talent. This and many such ongoing initiatives are visible from the numerous awards received for Best Compliance Initiatives for 2 years in a row. We have also recently been ranked Eighth in the top pre-school centers in Hyderabad.

What is the main aim and objective of OI Playschool Banjara Hills? At Oi Playschool Banjara Hills, the ethos has always revolved around adding value to their individual learning within the limited time they spend with us. These are really young children in the age group 1 to 5 years. So, cleanliness, safety and fun are our predominant focus. Tell us about your other hobbies and things that you love doing apart from your work? I enjoy listening to music. Besides work, being a people person, I enjoy socializing and involve actively in voluntary work, including being the trustee of ‘We Believe Foundation’, FICCI’s FLO initiatives as well as support my husband in his Round Table community outreach activities and fundraising events. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Besides the growing role in the businesses that I am a part of, I am now actively a part of several social initiatives, including We Believe Foundation, a registered Not-ForProfit Organization that provides vocational/ employability skill training with placement assistance as well as career guidance services to poor and semi-educated people from disadvantaged classes. We do this by means of courses in beauty & styling, sewing & tailoring as well as communication skills to empower them to become self-dependant, make their livelihood and live a life of dignity and most importantly; break the cycle of poverty. It also supports orphanages by providing for the children aged 0 to 16 years

How do you balance your personal/ professional and social life in such a busy schedule? I am usually very well planned. Be it holidays or school calendar, I believe in remaining organized. Also, I break the work into processes and assign individual responsibilities within the staff; this greatly helps in training and being prepared in advance.

Rapid fire 3 things you don’t leave home without? Mobile Phone, Keys and Water Bottle. Where would you like to take your next holiday to? Travel again to the Europe. Soundest advice you have received by far? Never to let weaknesses or circumstances decide who we become. One thing that cheers you up immediately? Good music Your idea of a perfect day? Quite and undistributed time with my family Your strength? Personally being straight professionally, a stickler for order

Quick advice for young and budding entrepreneurs? One common advice is to be confident of their dreams and work steadfastly with discipline in achieving the set goals. Your inspiration and why? CUISINE

Let’s Drive-in To a Restaurant! The best thing when you spot a drive-in restaurant which have mushroomed in the city, in the past couple of years, is definitely to drive in and find a nice spot and be free from the burden of choosing one place that the whole gang will agree to hang out at because no one ever will or it will take forever! At least that’s what happens to us. In this article, we share with you what actually a ‘Drive-In’ means and where all in Hyderabad you can find some of the very best. MANGO PEOPLE Don’t blend in, stand out Mango People was established in January, 2014 to provide the most contemporary products from around the world. Anannya, the Cofounder of Mango People, was highly inspired by the beauty and magic of Sky Lanterns showcased in Tangled (a Disney movie) and wanted people to experience the same in India. There was a high demand for the product back then, especially for events like birthdays, weddings, festivals and even corporate events. It gave a brand a kick start and there was no stopping! Mango People has always looked forward to such products which are not only contemporary but are also of high quality and are something which makes your life even more happening than what it already is. Anannya and Harsh soon realised that there were not many brands in India which provided quirky, cool and out-of-box products especially like tech accessories, office supplies and home furnishing. Anannya being from a design college, Pearl Academy has always been inspired by Surrealism and Popart and therefore, a huge range of creative and artistic lifestyle products were soon launched which are the “neverseen” kind and would make anyone fall in love with them. Mango People is different from all other similar stores in the market because of the huge product range that we have that is not available in most stores. Also, the way we interact and create engagement with our customers is something that the customer loves! We believe in 100% customer satisfaction and therefore, provide the best quality products at affordable prices. The best features that Mango People is providing are Loyalty Program for all customers, Free Shipping* and shipping to more than 20,000 pincodes all over India so that nobody misses out on such cool products. What’s next: We are planning to develop an interactive app for Mango People through which people will not only be able to buy products but there will also be some engagement/interactive activities which everyone would definitely enjoy. We are planning to open brick and mortar stores soon but not in the regular manner. There would be Point-of-sale screens and scanners through which people could directly add their favourite items to the digital cart and checkout digitally as well. The future is here and we believe that technology has a huge role to play both in retail and e-tail industry. Find them on: https://www.mangopeople.biz/ Instagram: mngoppl

PUSHPAK VIMAAN by Sravani and Smarani PushpakVimaan was started about 2 years ago by siblings Sravani and Smarani. Starting a label has always been their mother’s dream; hence came to life this modest endeavour to fulfil her vision. “We are inspired by everything from the engraving detail of an antique headboard to the flowers in our backyard. With each collection, we try to tell a story through our motifs. We are intrigued by all things impossible; hence all our stories are a conversation with the surreal world. The collection – ‘Aham’ is an expression of the ultimate dream, the ultimate dreamer. A journey inspired by the search for the Supreme Being; within or without. AhamBrahmasmi.Tattvamasi. Our ¬¬¬design process, more often than not starts from an illustration of a character. This goes on to the story, he or she is trying to tell, which sets the mood for the entire collection. From conceptualizing and perfecting the tiny niceties to creating a playful dialogue between the fall and structure of our outfits; our studio is all about the love for details. MINT N’ ORANGES by ‘Preeti Mahajan

“In a world full of Bling, Simplicity is the ultimate Sophistication”; “Keep It Simple” is the ethos behind the Mint n’ Oranges Collection. “Mint n’ Oranges is a Creative venture where we house all things beautiful. We have Exquisite Hand-woven Pure Chanderi and Banarasi Saris, Lehengas and Dupattas. Almost touching 1 Lakh followers in a span of a little over a year, on Facebook, reveals the excitement and interest in the Brand. Mint n’ Oranges started as a brainchild of my daughter, 18 year old ‘Kalli Mahajan’ and myself. We had been working with the weavers and experimenting with blending various fabrics for some time. We thought of checking out the response as a Business by putting together a Collection & hosting an Event. To bring awareness of the Event, a Facebook Page was created. Before we realized, we were receiving Orders online even before we had a Bank Account in the name of the Company. “ The love, appreciation and excitement generated by the Collection motivated Preeti S Mahajan, who has been running her own IT Business for 20 years, to diversify into this. Kalli, her daughter, handles the Marketing and Communications for the Brand. “We work closely with the weavers and are mingling Pure Chanderi fabrics with Silk. We are known and loved for our beautiful color combinations and unique designs. Neon fluorescent colors are mixed with matt colors and we create eclectic Saris. A lot of our Chanderis have contrasting Silk blouses and Silk pallas giving them a rich look, yet wearable through the year. Our Banarasi Sari Range and our Lehengas have been a runaway hit. The uniqueness of rich Pure Banarasi woven design, without bling, is what we bring to the Customer. When a Client is keen on ordering, we click and send multiple pictures so that they have a very clear idea of what they are buying. Our reward has been the fantastic feedback we get from Clients, a lot of them thrilled that the Creations look even better in person, and this what we wanted to achieve” Find them on: www.mintnoranges.com, Facebook: MintnOranges, Instagram: mintnoranges Whatsapp : +919810286855

OH! FISH by Komal Kothari “A two day long hunt for a decent nightwear and nothing in hand after a tedious exercise, I went to a cloth shop to get a material for a pyjama and got it stitched for myself. Having no clue how it will turn out to be, it was actually WOW and as desired. After posting a selfie with them on the social media, I got a call from my cousin to get a nightwear stitched for her too for the pyjama party she had organised. And once that nightwear came from production, my first reaction was ‘OH!Fish , how pretty..And there was no looking back from there. First few orders were from word of mouth and family but as and when i posted pictures on Facebook and Instragram, the product was appreciated and i slowly started getting inquiries. It’s been almost a year now and touch wood the response has been overwhelming! Oh! Fish believes in keeping up with the trend and providing stylish, quality products, timely delivery at a reasonable price compared to most of its competitors and that has been the USP from the time of incorporation. The response has been awe-inspiring!! We started with pyjamas and boxers for girls initially then moved to night dress, shirt dress etc. What came as a bigger surprise to me was that the boys too wanted to get out of the boring striped and chequered boxers and tracks and get funky printed nightwear. And this was not the end!! We got orders from mothers who were bored to buy their children the same pattern of nightwear yet again...Available in the retail space. And this is how Oh! Fish now designs nightwear for the entire family. From a newborn to granny - no age limits. People have approached me for various events like Pyjama party, Bachelor’s party, Pre -wedding night bash, Kids birthday party, Mother - new born photo shoot, Corporate product promotion events etc. What’s trending is “Gifting”...We have designed ‘Couple nightwear sets’ for anniversary and wedding gifts. We have also customised nightwear with names and initials as Birthday gifts, Party giveaways, Mother’s day gift etc. On customer’s request, we have also started making eye masks matching to nightwear you order. There are a lot of other products in the pipeline that i wish to introduce soon to make every night different from the other!! What’s next: “Tonight’s gonna be a GOOD Night” is what Oh! Fish strives for in the future. A lot of new products are making way, which we plan to introduce to our customers later this year. Once we do that, we will make the products available on other boutique sites. We also plan to come up with a completely new range of nightwear for a lesser price for the masses. So, if you think, our current range is not in your budgets then just wait for a while, we have something coming soon for you!! SPLURGE COSMETICS by Dr. Roma Thadani “I have always had a very sensitive skin myself and have been very choosy about what I apply on my skin. I have had troubled skin all through my teenage years and once I completed my graduation in medicine I decided to first work on this issue I have. I started thinking maybe it’s the chemicals that don’t suit my skin, maybe it’s the harshness that my skin is repelling to. And I switched to using a lot of natural and homemade masks and oils to nourish my skin. And the result was gradual but beautiful radiant skin. That’s when I decided I want to pursue my specialization in Skin & Hair care and went ahead to London, U.K. to get myself a Certification in Natural & Organic Cosmetic Formulation and came back to start SPLURGE: Handcrafted Natural Luxuries. The response so far has been phenomenal. Women in India have started to pay more attention to the way they look, to the products they choose and to ways to improve their lifestyle. The consumer today is literate and understands what you are trying to sell to them. We have our loyal customers who love our products so much that slowly their entire families have started to use our products now. What’s special about SPLURGE is that we take our work very seriously and stand by the claims we make. All our products are made with the finest of natural traditional ingredients which are sourced from all over the world. There is intense R&D for each product before it goes out to the customer. All our products are Natural, PETA-Certified, 100% Vegetarian, SLS-free, Paraben-free and are all blended with Aromatherapy. There are very few products available today that are not only natural but are blended with purest of Aromatherapy essential oils, so that the efficacy of the product just doubles up. What’s next: We constantly have a lot happening back-stage and truly, that is what drives us. We have a couple exclusive ranges lined up and will soon be showcased :) We have recently been getting a lot of wedding hamper requests and this recent wedding season has been very busy catering to those wedding requests to perfection. ESSEMM FOOTWEAR by Sachi Maskara Lohia “I started this brand out of passion and had no formal training in accessories design and just went with the flow of my creative instincts. I had always wanted to start something of my own and be independent. My parents are the reason behind my success My mom is into designing clothing and apparel, also with so many designers out there already in market I wanted to do something different and still stay in line of fashion and that’s how I decided to step into designing shoes and clutches. I have got a great response since I started. I deal into Indian embellished and embroidered footwear. As regular footwear’s are available all over my products are more personalised keeping in mind the trend in terms of colours, season and of course the design. I try to give maximum comfort with good design and that defiantly is USP of my products. I customise bridal footwear’s, and on request for special occasion if they need it in coordination with specific dress, colour or style. I also do coordinated footwear with clutches so it works very well with customers and that’s something which is very new too, clients love it and like they say always match your handbag with your footwear, half the worry for your special date is sorted with these two essentials. You can just place an order with us, let us know the size and rest is sorted. Ecommerce is the next thing, people just want to sit at home and buy everything online. Initially we did face a lot of challenge with size issues but now it’s working very well. Instagram handle and facebook selling for us is doing very great. What’s next: Currently Essemm is available at Aza, Fuel store. And we keep doing exhibitions all over India so more and more people own essemm. We also plan to launch our own website very soon Find them on: Instagram: Essemmaccessories Ph:9769622241 TULIP - MAY, 2016 35

RADHIKA GULATI Radhika Gulati has always been very passionate of creating her own label. “I’ve enjoyed designing since I was a little girl. After my graduation and a lot of research I decided to setup my brand under my name. I am just lucky to live my dream and passion. When I started, I was supplying only one store and in a year I have been able to cater to seven stores in India and one in Indonesia. We are also supplying to two websites. The idea is to grow bigger with the target of supplying to the stores PAN India. We are working on our marketing team & trying to be more out there. It’s growing by leaps and bounds. I think it’s really building up in India as it’s a very easy access for people to buy clothes of their favorite designers by just sitting at home. Since I’m based in Goa and there aren’t many options here so even I pick on online shopping. The easiest way to shop! I feel inspired seeing nature, clothes from the previous era, architecture, paintings, things used in daily bases. India itself is so inspiring. But my true inspiration is my husband. I feel as a label we are growing and becoming better. I love getting reviews and critics both. It helps me to grow and do better and keeps me more focused. I personally call the stores when my collection goes to them so I can get a feedback from them and improve. I’ve my entire team from Mumbai and all the embroidery materials, fabrics, dyeing happen in Mumbai. It’s very challenging and frustrating at times because things get delayed but whenever I create that one outfit I just feel it’s all worth it. I really don’t think I would have been able to pursue my dream without my husband and my parents who have really helped me out and are still helping me. They are the backbone of my label. My in laws have been so supportive and understanding. They have always held my hand when I needed them and when I felt I was going weak. This one year couldn’t have been possible without all these people in my life and I really hope I can make them all proud,” she explains. VEDIKA M Art, fashion and creativity were readily available for Vedika Merh throughout her childhood. Visiting the textile unit with her mother was her favorite holiday pastime, creating prints and textures on paper and fabric began to give her a lot of joy. “The mystery of color and glamour of prints came naturally to me and my readymade unit helped me experiment and develop prints and textures which has become the main stay of my look today. Even before I took up fashion designing in Singapore, I was always keen in art and various crafts. After working in Singapore with a leading publishing house and an online fashion website, I decided to start my brand. At the moment we retail out of stores in different cities and take part in various exhibitions, so now we would like to build our own online website whereby we offer more variety in different price ranges. As color and prints signify our design’s identity, abstract prints from contemporary art are our main inspiration. Geometric patterns, brush strokes, splash of color and paint blotting help us to experiment with different textures to create our prints. The journey so far has been very inspiring and a great learning experience , and we hope to see more and more customers in our creations”, grins Vedika. DUET LUXURY Coming from a family business of exclusive wooden products going on for decades, Priyanka Baid wanted to start an exclusive product line, design and that’s when she met Shruti Bansal, who came from a business and marketing background. They shared the same dream of creating something unique, out of the box and thus Duet Luxury was born. Duet means Duo – coming of two people, and they have used it in the same principle, by blending exotic wood and leather/swarovski to create designs which are modern, aesthetic and yet functional. “We see ourselves as a luxury brand yet affordable to the worldwide market. We want to cater to a niche crowd and remain exclusive. Duet Luxury is now looking to expand worldwide, we have started tying up with companies and stores outside India, in places like UAE, England, USA and Saudi Arabia. We hope to be in most of the fashion capitals of the world by the end of 2016. The whole philosophy behind our designs is to keep the clutches stylish, fashionable yet simple, and enduring; we make these ultimate understated evening bags. We play with mix media and different forms to break out from the traditional woodworking giving it a new aspect sometimes also with the tone of wood to match the seasons color palette. We bring in an array of modern designs - ranging from minimal Baroque, Victorian era, art and architecture keeping it modern and sometimes abstract. It has been a short journey as of now, since we have been in the fashion industry for only 2 years, but we have received excellent response. MASAYA JEWELRY by Nirali Haria

More and more young working women are looking for jewelry which is modern, easy to wear and can be teamed up with western wear. Also we see a global change in trend in jewelry. Market is under a transition phase where intellectual & new age Indian women are buying more fashionable jewelry. Trendy fashion jewelry is smart and gives rise to a unique style statement, something all women look forward to. Women want to celebrate their individuality by creating their own fashion statement. Nirali wanted to make a piece which makes one feel happy - you can wear it on the beach, in the evening, in the day, in the snow, in bed, in the bath, for dropping the children off to school and that’s when the idea of Masaya which means happiness came to her mind. “We already have two stores in Mumbai and by the end of 2016 we want to open up two more stores in the city. Also in the next three years we want to open up stores in two tier cities where there is a huge potential and unsaturated by over competition, having room to breadth and where accessibility has been a big issue. It offers a lot of flexibility. The internet isn’t a 9 AM to 5 PM office job, but a 24/7 entity, meaning that as an online business, you can strike that balance between your work life and your personal life. Another major benefit is that you are opening your business to a plethora of new markets and potential customers worldwide. I’m constantly on the lookout for new sources of inspiration and ways to get my creative juices flowing. There are those that say creativity cannot be taught – which I agree with, but you can consciously spend time working on a few techniques to allow for more creativity, and you can build up your own sources of inspiration. Lot of my inspiration comes by going to art galleries – sometimes even just the form of a line or the blend of colors can be inspirational. I also find that being around different types of art puts me in the right mindset and can really stimulate me to think in terms of jewelry design. Designing something that’s incredibly intricate and complicated, is one kind of pleasure; the pleasure of watching a concept become reality, but to design something that’s simple but perfect in its own way is also hugely satisfying. Our client is not a demographic. It’s much more about somebody who has their own style, somebody who has a bit of confidence, somebody who’s prepared to experiment a bit, somebody who understands design and craftsmanship, somebody who gets real satisfaction out of wearing our jewelry,” says Nirali. THE HAELLI The name ‘HAELLI’ comes from “HAVELLI” which takes you down to the house of heritage keeping the culture of our country alive. The founder of The Haelli, Neha Sahu is an artist and contemporary Jutti designer, based in Gurgaon. “Personally I always felt Juttis are never out of fashion, and I have always experimented by pairing them up with Jeans and Tees, skirts or suits. Although, there was a constant need to break the stereotype and come up with something unique with these comfortable beauties. That need has given birth to my first painted Jutti, and since then there was no looking back. I always wanted everyone to know that this traditional footwear can also add to their style statement. And there are lot many workers struggling to keep this process alive. I wanted to make wearing Juttis fun to everyone so started by painting a pair for myself, which then extended to family and friends. As this thought took off I was approached by many others to design a pair for them. Now I want everybody to know how they can walk pretty and comfortable altogether. Response so far has been overwhelming. It has moreover become an amusement for different people. Bright colours, quirky designs have brought something new to the existing market of Juttis. We always get requests for different designs. People want to coordinate their attire with these juttis. Haelli gives everyone a complete different approach for Juttis, we are the first ones to come up with this idea of promoting hand painted Juttis across India and worldwide. What’s next: We have been approached to design and paint various other accessories. And we are in a process of collecting feedback. We will soon update all Haelli fans about our next venture. Lock your Worries Everybody has security issues these days and Navkettan lockers give you the ideal solution to all your worries and helps you feel secure with your valuables. We talk to Piyush Dak, founder at Navkettan lockers that help us know more about them.

Tell us something about yourself as an individual? I am a happy go lucky and loving person with a blend of two best cities of India within me. With my base as Mumbai where I spent my childhood and was brought up there, I landed up in Hyderabad, where I got amazing business experiences and love. I love venturing into new dimensions, love taking risks and enjoy travelling and driving the most. I am married and a father of two lovely children I now am completely involved in my work that I love the most. Besides Navkettan Lockers, a prestigious part of Navkettan Group, we are also into construction, IT & Mobile software. Tell us about how did you start off with Navkettan Lockers? Navkettan Lockers cherished family dream that came true. I’ve been visiting private lockers while I was in Mumbai, since last 32 years when my parents would hold my hand and take me. Private Lockers in India date back to about 85 years. We have been using one since the last 32 years in Mumbai. My Dad and I discussed to have one Private Lockers facility years back. For some reason it never happened or materialized. About 7 and half years ago, my family and I were searching for a locker at a bank, and we never got one. Just then I recollected me and my dad’s discussion that every house hold will require a locker to safe guard their belongings and people will never find a locker with the bank. That is when the dream thought rekindled and lo - we have Navkettan Lockers here in the twin cities. The first branch started a little over 7 years ago in our building Navkettan in Secunderabad and following the demand we started with the Banjara Hills branch on Dasara, about 6 months ago. What makes you different? Navkettan Lockers is the only private locker company here in Hyderabad. Availability: It is almost impossible to get a locker in banks these days. Even if they have lockers, it comes with a demand of a huge fixed deposit or some forced insurance to take. Even after falling prey to these demands you land up with a pigeon hole size locker. At our end, we offer 10 different sizes of lockers to choose from. There are no compulsions of any obligatory business. You want a locker - you get a locker. More so we assure you a locker whenever you want it. Operating hours: While you have a locker at the bank for your valuables, you are yet at the mercy of the bank to operate it. Banks are by default closed on bank holidays and public holidays and bandhs and what not, to add to the misery, now closed on 2nd and 4th Saturday as well. Even on the days the banks are open, the operating hours have reduced from 8am-8pm to 10:00am to 4:00pm making the strong room available only from 10:30am to 3:30pm. So, as against 5 hours a bank strong room is available, we are open 15 hours a day on weekdays and 8 hours a day on Weekends and Holidays. Security: Many banks don’t even have s security guard. If yes, the focus is mostly on the cash vans that come in and go out or on the cash teller counters. We have round the clock security, equipped gun man, digital security and other gizmos and gadgets all focusing purely on the strong room and security of your valuables. Authorized access to the strong 40 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

room, finger prints verified customers, various security norms and parameters make us one of the strongest and secured strong rooms in the country. Key: We have computerized dimple keys on 4 sides of the key, so only the right key can open the locker, just like the Cinderella shoe to its perfect owner. These keys cannot be replicated and this makes the Godrej equipment at bank and our equipment very different and secured. Godrej itself terms this as Godrej SECUNEX - Security of the next Generation. For every locker we issue, we give a sealed key that comes Sealed from Godrej. At banks, you will never get a secured key, and you never know how the easily replicable key has been compromised. Tell us about how a client can be secure after purchasing Navkettan Lockers? After getting a locker at Navkettan Lockers, you are assured of next generation security. The space is made keeping in mind every single requirement of yours. Air-conditioned strong room, soft carpeted flooring for seating comfort, mirrors to see you try & get ready for your and secured & agile security of International quality. Security is our backbone and we have ensured the best possible security with the most modern technology. Tell us about the objective and goal of Navkettan Lockers? COVER STORY

Shruti, Tanisq and Kshittij Mallpani Shruti Mapllani tells us all about motherhood

Tell us something more about yourself as an individual? I am a Life Coach and an Image Consultant. I love working with people to get the best out of them in terms of achievements and personal growth, while working on their Best Self. As an individual, I believe in individuality and nurturing what makes a person unique. I hate gender discrimination. I believe in teaching my sons that being a gentleman starts with the thought process. Apart from that I am a very happy person. What kind of a bond do you share with your kids? I share a very friendly, open and buddy like bond with my kids. I know that I am their ‘To Go’ person for everything apart from just requirements. They have to share their things with me. My younger one, Kshittij, believes that I have a solution for everything. He blindly believes that his illness, hurt or any problem will be taken care by me and he would just be fine. For my elder son Tanisq, I feel elated when I see him give a tough fight to his opponent in his Lawn Tennis Matches (Tanisq is a National Level Player Under 16 category). When he plays a winning shot and looks at me for acknowledgement, he is only bothered to know, did I see it or not. That’s when I feel this Mother-Son Bond the strongest. A golden advice your mother gave you? My mother told me to be my kid’s Best Friend but, to let them know that I will always be a mother 1st. Can you remember one memorable thing that each of your

children said, something that surprised you, amused you or impressed you that still sticks out in your mind? Tanisq now has surpassed me in height big time. So this one time, while walking in a mall, he very nicely slides his hand on my shoulder, in a hug and says,’ Mom- U Don’t look like a mom. You look like a buddy to me.’ Kshittij recently over a conversation says this -’ Mom! I like the way you talk to me. You let me take my own decisions after explaining things to me. I like that!” And I was pleasantly surprised ? Also, the direction towards me being a Life Coach was given by Tanisq. Looking back now, starting with your first imaginary thoughts of initially becoming a mother, how does it feel to watch your children grow up? When I conceived Tanisq, i was too naive to understand what I was getting into. I was happy with the thought, that I would be pampered. So, no imaginary thoughts before that related to him. But after I conceived, I gave my 100%. I read books of Ramayana and I would mention a particular one, ‘Mrityunjay’ which is one character of Surya putra,’ Karan’. I wanted my son to be like him, strong, intelligent and with a giving heart. Now when I see him and Kshittij, I am grateful to that book. Tanisq is already towering 6” taller than me. Kshittij is standing at par. Very Soon, they both would be much taller than me (their papa is 6”1’ tall) and I would have my solid pillars of support on my each side. Lastly, I would like to pay gratitude to My Mother for being who she is and for what she has made me.

An Ode to our most favourite person! Mother’s day, though, is one of the most significant days in our lives, what we at Tulip think is that, it should be celebrated often, almost every day, since it’s impossible to think of a world without a mother. Think of a place - black and white, no blooming flowers, no sunshine, pale and dark, no eyes with love or kindness - yes, that’s probably how it would be without a mother in your life. Nevertheless, for us fortunate lot whose world is as bright as sunshine, all thanks to our beautiful mothers. So, what are you still waiting for? Let’s celebrate her presence in our lives; not just this one day but every day forever! Here, we bring to you some amazing mothers and their kids. Let’s see what they all have to say: 42 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

Tell us something more about yourself as an individual? I am a simple person; I love the good things in life but don’t necessarily aspire for them. My family is very important to me and that very much includes my parents and in laws. I love spending time chatting with family and close friends. I am all about my relationships and it’s very important to me to be with the people I care about. Everything else for me is secondary. What kind of a bond do you share with your kids? I have a very close bond with my children. I am most definitely a disciplinarian and good manners, appropriate behavior and respect are all important; however I connect differently with all of my three children. Each of them is a character and I relate to them individually as I see so much myself in each one. I suppose that’s what makes it special. To recognize they have their own strengths and weaknesses and how that affects who they are and how they behave, is exciting. I love working with them on both areas and spend a lot of time trying to make them stronger and confident individuals by sharing a lot of my own experiences with them. How does motherhood change a person? I think it makes you realize there is so much more to you. I see myself living through my children and I see myself living on through them. The reality of that hits you when you give birth. For me, it means a sense of responsibility that I gave birth to these individuals and I am responsible to ensure they grow into responsible and loving adults. It also means that I am very accountable “to them” that I owe it to them to ensure they grow knowing what’s around them and also knowing how to maintain their own individuality through it all. Your favorite thing to do with your children? Watch movies tucked up in bed, Barbeque at home and take road trips A golden advice your mother gave you? For me my mother is the epitome of what a mother should be. I remember even though she always worked or did something or the other, I could rarely remember a time coming home from

COVER STORY

school and not seeing her there. She was the first person I wanted to see. Most days of the week I aim to be backing home in time for the kids, as much as possible. I know the days I am not there, my kids miss me and say so. My own mother lives as an example of what I consider the epitome of maternal instincts, nurturing, mature and applicable advice. She has always been way ahead of her times and I automatically emulate a lot of what I see her do. That I suppose is the best tribute to her. And I hope my children can say the same for me some day.

Can you remember one memorable thing that each of your children said, something that surprised you, amused you or impressed you that still sticks out in your mind? I have three children and there are tons of stories about them. My daughter Kiara who is the eldest and 12 years old is a wise old soul. One day, I was experimenting on them using a psychological tool to see how they perceive me as a mother, and I asked her – she thinks and says – “I think you are fishing for compliments” – however if you really need to know just ask yourself, your instincts will tell you if you are good at it or bad, she used my own lines on me. My second son who is 10 now is a dreamer and has a very creative mind. He is quite often lost in his own world. So, we all love teasing him and asking him what he ate for his last meal and it’s a family joke because he never remembers, and fires off anything just to get us off his back. My youngest is the brat and 6 years old. Kian has an opinion on everything, he loves to hang around in the kitchen and has decided he’s going to be a COOKER when he grows up – and that’s a chef - so he never goes hungry. Looking back now, starting with your first imaginary thoughts of initially becoming a mother, how does it feel to watch your children grow up? My priorities in life were always to find love, marry a good man and have tons of kids. Other things like career, success etc., I guess were something I knew would happen as long as I had a happy family. I feel blessed to sit back and see that reality today. I am so proud of my children, I feel overwhelmed by the love I feel for them and I just love being a mother.

COVER STORY A golden advice your mother gave you? Don’t underestimate your children’s maturity, involve them, indulge them and they will surprise you pleasantly with their balance of mind. Can you remember one memorable thing that each of your children said, something that surprised you, amused you or impressed you that still sticks out in your mind? To think of this, something funny comes to my mind, when Sanya was a toddler and barely learnt to write, she was perhaps in KG then, while going to school she use to leave a note on a table in her baby hand writing which said “Papa I love you but I love mamma more”, of course with time she grew up to be a perfect daddy’s girl! Aftab, says that “you are a good mother you take care of us and at the same time you really work hard and do your best!” Looking back now, starting with your first imaginary thoughts of initially becoming a mother, how does it feel to watch your children grow up? To be honest when I was expecting my children, I was always hoping that my children looked like my husband, but they are a good mix of both of us, in the looks and personality department! I am happy that they have turned out the way they have and wouldn’t wish to change a thing!

Samia, Sanya & Aftab Alam Khan Samia Alam Khan tells us all about motherhood Tell us something more about yourself as an individual? Samia as her friends woul know is like a nutshell, she is a very spiritual person, family, health and happiness are her priorities at the same time. ‘I am totally dedicated to accomplish whatever I try to pursue, let it be a business venture or an official project.’ She adds What kind of a bond do you share with your kids? We are an extremely close knit family by the grace of God! Modern day parenting is all about being involved, treating your children as your own friends and this basically gives way to a very open relationship, which results into a fun and enjoyable equation. My daughter Sanya and my son Aftab are teenagers but very matured individuals, the sense of maturity Sanya exhibits, sometimes amazes me. What has given you the most joy as a mother? The fact that my children are such matured people, at the same time they have their own likes and dislikes, they enjoy their childhood like their peers and are humble individuals. The values they have garnered gives me a lot of joy and pride, I couldn’t have expected anything better. Sanya says ‘My mother is my role 44 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

model and inspiration. She’s hard working, honest, beautiful and a perfect mother. She’s taught me how to face my problems and handle them with courage. She has made me the person who I am today’. These are small day to day things, which are people tend to take for granted but these are essentially pears of joy! How does motherhood change a person? I think motherhood gives a woman the full cycle of life! The happiness you derive from the achievements of your children surpasses the joy of your own achievements! Of course it makes you more responsible, because these innocent individuals are your responsibility and you would want to impart exemplary values to them and hope they become remarkable human beings. Your favorite thing to do with your children? Travel! It is by far the most favorite thing you could do with your children, the fact that you are pulled out of your routine and in a relaxed mode, with so much time to spend with each other, explore and learn as you see a new place is always something which I look forward to.

Your best holiday destination with your kids. Every single moment that we spend together is more than just precious to me. We have travelled to many places together and have had different opinions about each one of them, but the one holiday that all of us thoroughly enjoyed was our trip to the United States, to San Diego particularly. The impressive bayside setting and a sunny climate along with a set of appealing and distinctive neighborhoods successfully contributed to lightening and relaxing our minds. The shopping sprees, the sunbathing, the local bistros, the perfect beaches, the Broadway excitement. We enjoyed each and every moment in the vacationer’s paradise – San Diego. Your best thing to do together? Old really is gold. Pulling out the dusty old family albums and taking a trip down the memory lane is something we love doing. Now, that my girls are grown up to understand the family better, we are all amazed at how fast time flies. Those sweet, old days are always missed. What is the one thing you love about being a mom? The best thing that I love about being a mom is the unconditional love and respect that I get from my children. They are simply the best things that ever happened to me. What is the best gift that you’ve ever given to your mother? My mother always tells me that her two grand daughters (Gunjan and Suesha) are the best gifts that she has ever received. They go through a lot to bring us into this world. They are the emotional backbones of the family. They are extremely loving and forgiving. All a mother needs to know is that she has helped her child to be and feel their best. So, do every thing to make her proud, treat her with respect and love & care for her. Thank her for everything that she has ever done for you, not just on this Mothers Day, but every single day! Happy Mothers Day to all the mothers!

Ashu Gauri, Gunjan and Suesha Ashu Gauri talks about motherhood

Tell us about the kind of bond you share with your kids. The bond we share with each other is very very special. The children know that I’m always going to be there for them through laughter, worry, smiles or tears, to take care of them and to guide them. It is the most powerful relationship in the word. It is that lifelong relationship that sets stage for all the other relationships. With them I relive my youth. They are my lifelines! What is the thing that surprises you everyday about your kids? It surprises me to see my once little girls grow into the most lovable, respectful, compassionate and fearless humans. And the fact that they are gracefully, inculcating each and every value that I have always/ever wished my children to have. Honestly, it is overwhelming more than surprising. The best lesson that your mother taught you? She didn’t teach us one, she taught us a million. She taught us to be thankful for what we have, she taught us to be courageous, to never give up and to be happy, but most importantly to SPREAD that happiness. What is the most special thing that your kids ever did for you? My daughters and I, unknowingly, do a lot for each other. Each and everything that they do is special to me. However, I clearly remember when on one of my birthday’s my daughters gave me the best surprise ever. When I woke up that Saturday morning at about 7 am, my kids who generally prefer to sleep on weekends were up and about. I had a beautiful, freshly baked homemade cake along with a bunch of gifts sitting on the dining table, waiting for me. The entire house decorated with flowers. I was crying with tears of joy that morning. My little girls, aged 12 and 8, bought me gifts with the little money they had in their piggy banks. I was really touched. It was then that I realized that my little girls were not little anymore, they were now growing up. 48 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

COVER STORY

Rachna and Piyush Bajaj Piyush Bajaj talks about the bond he shares with his mother Tell us something about the kind of bond you share with your mother? I’m the youngest in my family, I have an elder brother & sister. Everybody in my family knows that my mom loves me the most. The bond we share is really special because, we both know if something is bothering either one of us or if one is sad or worried about something, we just reach out to each other. What is the thing that surprises you every day about your mother? The thing that surprises me the most about my mom even though I’m married now & I have a kid, she still makes sure whether I’m eating on time, getting proper sleep & staying healthy. It is unbelievable how she puts everything she wants for herself for the last. It’s the least of her priorities, her family always comes first. Best lesson your mother gave you? My mother is very simple; she gets happiness in very little things. She

has brought us up in the best way possible. She always told us to be thankful to God for what we have & never crib for what we don’t. To be happy that we can hear, talk & see properly & that we have clothes to wear & a roof over our heads, because a lot of people don’t. My mom has taught me to be hard working , dedicated , independent , organised , punctual & most importantly eager to learn always. From the time I was a little kid, I’ve had unconditional love & support from my mom. The best meal your mom makes? My mom is a fabulous cook. I cherish everything she makes for us. My favourite is the rasam she makes for me in her style. Remixed punjabi rasam. If you could take your mom anywhere, where would it be? Fortunately my mom has travelled quite a bit , but if I had the opportunity, I would want to take my mom all around the world again because she appreciates new things , places , technology , food, cultures, etc. like no one does. What is the one thing that you love most about your mom? She never lets me eat alone. Doesn’t matter how tired or sleep deprived she is, she would always want to serve me the best, piping hot food & she would re-heat again & again & be behind me to start eating. There are times when she falls asleep while I’m eating , while watching TV & in-case I turn of the light & TV, she would wake up & tell me to sit next to her .

Anshu and Bala Mittal

Anshu talks about the bond she shares with her mother What kind of relationship do you share with your mother? My relationship with my mother is emotionally very strong. It is a special bond that has spanned many years. It is way past the ‘Can’t live with her, Cannot live without her’ phase. She’s my biggest fan, best critic and my go-to person. Through laughter, tears, arguments, worries and smiles, our relationship has only grown stronger. It is true when they say ‘God couldn’t be everywhere, so he made mothers’. My mother always makes me feel better and is always there to hear me out. It goes without saying that she is the more giving and nurturing person in our relationship. What is the thing that surprises you every day about your mother? It amazes me how she is such a strong woman with a very soft heart. She can accept difficult situations with so much grace and ease and not bat an eyelid. Yet, she is so compassionate and loving at the same time. It surprises me how she dons so many roles at the same time in various situations with so much ease and love. I wish I come to possess these virtues someday. Best lesson your mother gave you? My mother has taught me invaluable lessons about life, family and work. However, the best lesson she has given me is to be disciplined, take up responsibilities without fear and accomplish them and be independent. The best meal your mom makes? My mom is a fantabulous cook. My all-time favourites are dal makhani with tandoori roti, cholebhature, rajma chawal and moong kahalwa.

If you could take your mom anywhere, where would it be? It has be the heaven on earth – SWITZERLAND. Both of us love the scenic beauty and tranquillity of the Swiss Alps. Your best thing to do together? We love to relax in the living room or lie down on the bed after dinner and talk about each other’s day and other things ranging from current affairs to life to fashion and some gossip. My mum is quick-witted and really makes the entire family roll with laughter in her humour. What is the one thing that you love most about your mom? Her generosity and selflessness. She’s the most generous person in the world I’ve known. She’s an active social worker and is always happy to lend a hand and help someone out in any way possible. She always puts the family’s happiness ahead of hers and personifies true and unconditional love.

COVER STORY What is the most special thing that your kid ever did for you? Every day is special with him around. A position like mine can be quite demanding and take away a large chunk of your personal life. But I’m glad my family and most importantly my son understands it and supports me. He’s my backbone during weak times and strength during a fight. Just the other day he mixed curd with sugar and fed me before I set off for a very important review meeting because he always saw my mom do it, which astonished me. Boys being boys, you never expect such gestures, but it took me by surprise, a very pleasant one indeed. Your best thing to do together? Monopoly and Scrabble – Endless Twists and Words. What is the one thing that you love being a mom? Togetherness – it completes you and there is always the next day to look forward to. He makes me aspire for more. What is the best gift you have ever given your mom? Her son-in-law. She absolutely adores him. A message you would like to give our readers on this mother’s day? “Oh Mother of Mine you gave to me, all of my life to do as I please, I owe everything I have to you, mother sweet mother of mine...” sung by Niel Reid. It is a song I sing to my mother on her birthday every year. You should listen to it and I’m sure you’d want to dedicate it to your mom.

Shibani Malhotra and Aryaveer Shibani talks about motherhood

Tell us something about the kind of bond you share with your son? True, Value and Transparency – that’s our Exchange Mechanism. I have instilled in him to communicate every joy, every difficulty, and every hurdle fearlessly with me. I have learnt to switch off the mother’s role in me when he’s ready to share a story and I try to hear him out as a friend. Although at times when the mom in me comes out, he straight up asks me to stop being so dramatic. What is the one thing that surprises you about you child? I wake up every morning to see my son grow taller and sound different. At his age, the voice modulation is unimaginable. There have been times, he’s passed a statement from behind and I turn around to check if it’s my son or someone else. Best lesson your mother gave you? I was a tom boy all through my childhood, so the 1st big lesson my mother taught me was that I can’t wear sneakers with a lehenga. And the 2nd lesson which stands strong in my life today, more like a rule book that I abide by before I start my day at work is that there is no parallel to “touch” – live everyday with Pride, Perseverance and Passion. In the field that I am in, the world is majorly ruled by the opposite gender and I take it in my pride and stand tall with confidence, as the Director of Finance for Marriott Hyderabad and this wouldn’t have been possible without the support and guidance of my mother. Your best holiday destination with your son? Bali. This trip was planned with a soul intention of family time No shopping, no meeting people, no planned tours, just my husband Atul, my son Aryaveer and me, spending some quality family time together. Spending such time made me realise how quick my son is growing up, it was on this holiday that I realised he holds my hand rather than me holding his. 50 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

WELLBEING

All You Wanted To Know About PCOS PCOS is a commonly increasing condition these days, and, there are many questions one can get about PCOS. Here is a complete knowhow of this condition; in a detailed discussion with Dr. Chandana. What are the risk factors that include PCOS? Some conditions related to PCOS are potentially serious. Many women with PCOS have decreased sensitivity to insulin, the hormone that regulates glucose (sugar) in the blood. This condition, known as insulin resistance, is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes. Women with PCOS often have type 2 diabetes, low levels of good cholesterol (HDL), and high levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) and other blood fats, including triglycerides. These factors may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke later in life. Women with PCOS who are overweight or obese can also develop a condition called obstructive sleep apnea, when breathing stops repeatedly during sleep. This condition can worsen the insulin resistance and cardiovascular problems of women with PCOS. Due to the irregular menstrual cycles and lack of ovulation, the lining of the uterus may not shed as often as it should. Left untreated, this may increase the risk of cancer of the uterine lining (endometrial). What are symptoms of PCOS? Along with irregular periods, the first signs of PCOS may be the growth of facial and body hair, thinning scalp hair, acne, and weight gain. However, weight gain, is not always present. Women of normal weight can also have PCOS. In addition to assessing signs and symptoms of PCOS, doctors take a medical history, perform a physical exam, and check blood hormone levels. They may also perform an ovarian ultrasound and measure glucose levels in the blood. Symptoms for PCOS can range from anywhere like irregular periods, delayed in schedule of periods, skin issues like acne problem, unwanted hair and difficulty in conception after marriage.

What is the frequency of the common age group who come for consultancy? 20-35 years old women usually come for consultation. What are the measures women can take to prevent pcos? They should watch on their diet. High protein diet is must to follow. Being active is also the most essential thing one can do. Thinner women have more PCOS problem than other women On what bases is this disease based on? Irregular or absent menstrual periods Infertility Weight gain (especially at the waist) Acne Excess hair on the face and body Thinning hair on the scalp Women with PCOS often have many small painless cysts in the ovaries; however, these cysts are not cancerous. Is this heretical in nature? Yes! For few of them it is hereditary. What is the efficient way to minimize the side effects of this disease? Seek health information from trusted sources to assist your decision making. Treat the physical symptoms of PCOS on time. Discuss your mood and psychological wellbeing with your doctor. Optimise your lifestyle! Seek the best quality health care. Priorities are most important to you and communicate this with your doctor.

What are the causes that lead to pcos? Fact is that, there is probably more than one cause. In general, an imbalance of hormones underlies the condition. It has also been called “ovarian androgen excess” because the ovaries produce male hormones (androgens) in increased amounts. PCOS seems to be inherited. Female relatives or children of patients with PCOS are at increased risk for having PCOS. Not all women with PCOS have difficulty becoming pregnant. For those that do, infrequent ovulation is a common cause.

What are the common eateries to avoid during PCOS? Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that provide the nutrients to the body to maintain health, feel good and enjoy life. Some foods can be eaten at time and help maintain health, whilst other foods should only be eaten occasionally. Even when you are not trying to lose weight actively, a healthy diet will ensure that you are getting a healthy and adequate intake of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. You may reduce the intake of refined carbohydrates in your diet, such as those found in foods like biscuits, cakes, soft drinks and confectionery.

What is the earliest known description of this disease? PCOS affects 7 to 10 percent women of childbearing age and is the most common cause of infertility. In the United States, an estimated 5 to 6 million women have PCOS. PCOS affects more than reproduction. It’s also a metabolic problem that affects several body systems PCOS is the most common endocrine disorder among women between the ages of 18 and 44. It affects approximately 5% to 10% of this age group. It is one of the leading causes of poor fertility. The earliest known description of what is now recognized as PCOS dates from 1721 in Italy.

How often should a women consult a gynecologist in this period of time? 3-6 months or even yearly.

As an all new range of the summer wedding and resort collection was showcased in the Lakme fashion week 2016, the eternal glam and beauty of St. Regis, Mumbai was studded by the flamboyant beauty of designs by over 100 young and talented designers featuring their astounding fashion sense and creating a perfect aura for the audience to blend their minds in the glitz and glitter and fall for them. We can’t get enough of fashion, can we? As it is said that first impression is the last impression, so the LFW 2k16 also maintained the quote and started their week with one of India’s best designer’s Manish Malhotra displaying his beautiful creations suitable for a perfect summer wedding. And to add the extra bling Kareena Kapoor walked the ramp as a show stopper. Manish Malhotra being the most appealing celeb designer perfectly defined why he is loved so much by all as he swept all the applause on the Day 1 of the fashion week.

Fashion Unleashed At

Lakme Fashion Week 2016!

Day 1:

As we kick start the glamorous journey of an all week long fashion filled arena, 2016 brings us some unique and summer friendly designs to match your perfect expectations of fashion, glam, glory and comfort. Rajesh Pratap Singh’s metallic, blazers and skirts, Archana Rao’s whites, peaches, nudes and frills, Pero: Aneeth Arora’s super dreamy white summer dresses and tops and greys, Hemang Agrawal’s Banaras inspired collection with a lot of saree-blazer combination, Surendi aka Yogesh Chaudhary’s jumpsuits, bodycons, maxis, sarees and ghagras, quirky prints and pastel shades by Quirk box, and black & white capes, crop tops, jackets and shorts by Sahil Kochhar, made everyone at the venue have a brow raising experience. What a list, indeed! But the day doesn’t get over till it reaches its finale by Anand Kabra whose designs stunned everyone by creating a fusion of a casual jumpsuit made with royal blue silky chanderi and a blingy golden over coat to wear for the hot summer wedding and flaunt the wedding in full style and comfort. He said,” A jumpsuit is another version of a traditional salwar kameez which is easily accepted at weddings and occasions, then why not the fusion of comfort and style in the form of a jumpsuit”. This start to the LFW 2k16 was absolutely breathtaking, isn’t it?

Day 2:

But guess what was the biggest takeaway from Day Two of the Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 — supermodel Carol Gracias walking the ramp with a baby bump - the first of its kind on an Indian runway. The showstopper for master-revivalist Gaurang Shah’s Calico line that’s a throwback to the 1920s in its styling, motifs and colours, Carol brought in the 21st Century feel by breaking stereotypes and becoming the toast of the online world. Looking radiant in a green-and-pink khadi jamdani sari and jacket-styled blouse, she catwalked as gracefully as she is known to and set a new trend. She completed the look with her hair in a bun, decorated with flowers. P.E.L.L.A presented the collection’ Maitake’ in fabrics like Eri, Tassar, Ahimsa silks, Cashmere and Pashmina in warm beige and brown color palette was followed by Swati and Sunaina’s classy yet comfy cotton sarees in serene colours along with Debashri Samanta’s beautiful cuts and layers in traditional jamdani weaves was rural-y modern, Mrinalini’s linen boho collection and Paromita Banerjee’s Indian ensembles were the highlights of the day. But don’t miss out on the new footwear trend in Wendell Roderick’s and Meraki’s collections as fashion is not only about clothes anymore.

Day 3:

Every design, every clothing and every fabric is getting better with each passing day as our young and talented designers have been working so hard to bring out the best out of the best and Jayanti Reddy’s Siaa inspired by Sita from Ramayana made her models and show stopper Aditi Rao Haidari rock the ramp wearing her elegant piece of work and making them look like queens from heaven. Payal Singhal’s floral prints, daring cuts and pastel shades along with SVA, Vrisha, Dhruv Kapoor, Amit Agarwal and Nishka Lulla simple yet eye catchy cuts and lengths totally made everyone feel the ‘aww’ moment. But, the one designer who stole the show and a million hearts was Anushree Reddy from Hyderabad whose Mughal India inspired showcase made her models Shruti Hassan and Ileana D’Cruze look nothing less than an ancient royal princess. The long flowy gowns, the zarakari sarees and the perfect definition of a kali model ghagra choli made the models look like never before. Over 100s of designers showcased their talent and their creativity through their designs but the two ladies Anushree Reddy and Jayanti Reddy from Hyderabad stole the show on Day 3 and got the highest and the loudest appreciation from the audience witnessing the beauty of the aura.

Day 4:

From Anita Dongre to Payal Khandwala and Masaba to Monisha Jaisingh, all our favorite designers set the ramp on fire with their astounding collections on different varieties of fabrics and colours. Their bold and beautiful gowns, ghagras and those white and beige metallic daring cuts were a treat to

the eyes making the show look like a fairy- tale spun in fabric. Shraddha Kapoor, Lisa hayden, Sonakshi Sinha and many more such heroines gave the show a perfect end by their awestrucking show stopper appearance.

Day 5:

The opening of a show is very important but a show never ends perfect without an absolutely stunning finale. And LYW 2k16 reached to its heart- throbbing end by the finale show of world renowned fashion designer Rohit Bal who is known for his psyche tickling designs which left everyone speechless. Karan Malhotra’s colour blocking theme, Prama’s white and off- whites, Urvashi Joneja’s off the shoulders, Neeta Lulla’s “She is me, women power!” and Rahul Mishra’s sarees, gowns, pallazos and dresses made The LFW 2016 end with a bang. When those top- notch super models were sweeping the hearts of the audience with their elegant walks, how the heroines of our Bollywood film industry could be left out of style. The Lakme Fashion Week summer/Resort 2016 featured many heroines such as Kareena Kapoor, Urvashi Rautela, Sushmita Sen, Ileana D’Cruze, Kirron Kher, Shurti Hassan, Soha Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and many more beautiful yet fashionable ladies. And not leaving any place to reach out women were our handsome heroes Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan who certainly stole the hearts of many women.

CAKE & CANDLES

FEATURE

This type of sleepover is pretty self-explanatory. So, hosting sleepovers on birthdays makes it “Birthday Sleepovers”! And we should inform you, that these are turning out to be quite popular among the lot. So, no more same old birthday parties from this year. Host a lavish birthday sleepover and surprise your friends with cute goodies. THINGS TO DO: - So, you can obviously go for a theme for your birthday sleepover or go for a basic sleepover with friends, Either way we assure you, it’s way more fun than the customary parties. - Get yourself into a never ending party mode with more music, dancing and fun after saying your goodbyes to the formal lot of the party. - And since balloon and birthday go hand in hand we thought you would like something we call a, “Balloon Sleepover” where you can get your activities going with a balloon schedule which “pops” on the hour revealing what’s on the agenda. Doesn’t that sound fun? - Some ‘things to do’ in the balloons could be building a fort of blankets, a spa session (manicure/pedicure/facial, you name it!), maybe a selfie session etc. or maybe something even more fun like sharing Ghost stories… Now those are fun! - You can also gift your friends’ small goody bags full of treats or DIY spa set as an appreciation. FOOD: - Since, it’s a birthday it has to have a cake or cupcakes (we don’t mind anything that is sweet at all!) and lots and lots of candies. Yup! You heard us right, and also maybe hold a ‘most jellybean in your mouth’ competition.

Trisha Banerjee

“Yes I have been to a lot of sleepovers. My ideal sleepover would include all my close ones together with junk food, beverages, a good movie or a good game with lots of catching up and remembering old times and sneaking out at midnight or maybe prank calling and then finally sleeping when people would expect us to wake up. And sometimes a theme based sleepover would be great too. Maybe a terrace one with lots of twinkly lights, old memories in pictures etc. and the rest remains the same. Or maybe a dramatic one like a Bollywood themed party or may be a sleepover where we need to play a game to confront our fears and all the friends overcome it together would be cool too.”

Sidhant Dhirsamant

“Yes, I have been to sleepovers and mostly the ones that can be termed as casual sleepovers. These are hosted almost every other weekend. We get together at someone’s place; watch movies, some food and then the next morning breakfast and done. Would also love to host or get invited to a theme based slumber party, maybe something themed according to a TV series like The Vampire Diaries or Game of Thrones or something like medieval or futuristic set up.”

Plus this sleepover calls for some major pampering by your mommy dearest once she manages to find you and your friends among the heaps of books! THINGS TO DO: - Well, any guesses what to do in such sleepovers? Yes! You guessed it right… study! - But you got to look at the brighter side of it too which is, you get to sleepover with your friends and get to eat all that yummy food that your mom prepared or maybe you get to convince your mom to order food. - And before that, make sure to tidy up your room, we know that it’s going to get messy by the end of it but it will get you extra points and maybe you’ll get your favourite pudding for dessert. Well that’s a nice thought at least for me to tidy my room!

FOOD: - Exam food is my favourite type of food, the only thing that gets me going at that time of the semester. - It is that time when you have full monopoly over your mom! Hence, all that favourite mouthwatering food just for you and your special gang of nerds! - So here, you go ahead to either convince your mom to make all your favourites or get to ordering yours and your guests’ combined favourites.

Divya Prasad, Pursuing Accessory Design

“I have not been to a lot of sleepovers or organised a lot. Ideal sleepover? Well I think, it could be a basic slumber party or sit and watch movies talk/gossip with my friends. I think I would like that better. For me and my friends it’s all about fun and keeping it simple and real, so we probably won’t stress much on any theme.”

Alisha Mohanty (Software Engineer)

“Yes I have hosted some and been to one. My favourite themes to get invited or host would definitely include pajamas, comfort is my thing! Seasons like summer, winter, fall and spring etc. would also be my type of sleepover. Also my dream theme will be something yoga inspired because I’m driven by it! Ideal slumber party could also be something princessy as it goes along any age.” 60 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

THE HOME SQUAD SLEEPOVER

This is again one of our favourites and takes us all the way back to those summers that were spent together with cousins and family. This is the party that everyone should experience at least once a year we say. These types of slumber parties again can be based on themes. And we suggest you go for the new in the market theme, “The Blacklight Party” with dark rooms and glowing objects or props to go with the theme. THINGS TO DO: - When you and your cousins come together, we doubt there’s anything that you can’t do! Buy some glow in the dark supplies, be it small ones, necklaces, bracelets, nail paint, hats etc. - Get your room some neon lights, set up your party supplies in one corner for everyone, put on some music and once that doorbell rings rush everyone inside. - Dance. Yes! Let loose of yourself and dance till you drop. Remember it’s not every day you get to spend time with your cousins, so put on your best music and go crazy! - And once everyone’s tired you can go ahead and share your family tales and bring back those bitter-sweet memories. It’s that time when you get to tease your little brother of his ‘no front teeth’ phase or retell the whole ‘picked up from the garbage’ story that never gets old. FOOD: - Go crazy with the food here, because honestly, nobody’s to judge! It’s the people who saw you at your worst, remember that five year old pot belly? - So, for this kind of sleepover, go ahead order everything you could possibly think of and let the brains of others work too in this direction. - Pizzas are a must, and that too all kinds of them, you never know when you might get hungry! There’s the whole night!! - Also a must are donuts. Yes! Transform the party to a doughy heaven.

KIDS CAMPING IN

You parents have to work for this one. But, if you want to make your child happy, well you got to do what you got to do. And the most popular of these sleepovers is the ‘Safari Sleepover’. Take your child and the bunch to a zoo or a safari trip and continue the fun back home by setting a ‘camping in’ at your home. THINGS TO DO: - Definitely book a mini bus to accommodate the lot, and brace yourself for all the mess after the storm. - Also pack some snacks and water and other necessities, hats, sunglasses etc. - You can also engage the kids with, ‘name the animal’ game. - Remember to put on some music while you travel in the bus to help the dozed off kids at the back! - ‘Camping in’ at home can include, small individual tents as bed (can also place some stuffed animals in them); animal face painting competition/ activity, sharing the safari experience and maybe also who makes the best animal sound round. - And lastly embrace the chaos, we say! FOOD: - For kids, food has to be finger food! No kid likes to have a full meal and especially on a sleepover. - Chicken fingers/nuggets an all-time favourite of every child which definitely needs to go on that list and also potato wedges. - One thing you sure can’t forget is the sweet! Cakes, candies, marshmallows, candied popcorns, and the list goes on.

FEATURE WEEKEND SLEEPOVER

These are the most basic and popular ones among the youngsters. The weekend sleepover explains itself quite well. And these don’t require any special theme to make them amazing; the company itself acts as a driving force! So, you know you got good company if you have been to a sleepover almost every weekend! THINGS TO DO: - Well, it probably doesn’t even need a mention but gossiping and giggling with friends is the most satisfying thing in the world! It acts as a stress reliever after all. So, you got to get that tongue rolling! - Anything better than gossiping about your latest crush? We don’t think so, but you can always go for a game of ‘Truth N Dare’ and get all those confessions flowing! - The legendary ghost stories find a place in this type. Assign one member to narrate a horror story every weekend, and don’t forget to switch that light off! - Also great for these types of sleepovers are the horror movies. Have a good laugh scaring that ‘fairy-tale’ obsessed friend of yours that we all have!

FOOD: - Since it’s a weekend thing don’t bother about the food much. Go for your regular sleepover snacks, cookies, chips etc. - But, you can always have that king size breakfast and make your guests feel grand. - Maybe you can go for, pancakes with extra butter and honey, or that crispy waffle.

BACHELORETTE PARTY

Bachelorette parties are all about fun and more fun. These types of sleepovers are best when followed a theme. Anyways these parties are all about no sleep and never ending fun that might even continue till the morning until people start crashing on beds. The theme one can follow is endless but the one we recommend and the popular one these days, is the ‘matching pajama’ sleepover. Cute we say! THINGS TO DO: - First thing you got to do is to set a date with your girlfriends and buy matching pajamas if you haven’t got already. Or if your troupe is lazy like us, you can also opt to order online. - Baking is one of the ‘ things to do’ that goes perfectly well with this theme, so drive with your girly gang around the city, get your baking essentials, have fun loitering around the supermarket and once you have made fun of every available cookie brand get back to work! - You can also go for a cookery competition, or maybe salad assembling competition if your girls are not that great cooks! (We understand! We fall in the same category…) The point is you get to demolish whatever it is that you baked or cooked by the end of it. - Another thing you should definitely do is watch some major girly movies and don’t you worry about what to watch, here’s the list Mean Girls, Sisterhood of Travelling Pants, Devil Wears Prada, Letters to Juliet, Confessions of a Shopaholic, Princess Diaries, Mamma Mia, Sex and the City, Freaky Friday, Bride Wars. FOOD: - The food has to be grand and sophisticated for an occasion this big! Hence, we recommend a bit of both simple and gourmet. - Go for simple/basic snacks that everybody enjoys like nachos and cheesy or meaty dip, homemade potato chips with less oil, you can also go for rice krispies both sweet and savoury if you are particularly feeling healthy. - And must we add the popcorn to help you with the never ending list of movies for the night. 62 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

Sushmita Dusa, Aspiring Jewellery Designer

“I’m not much of a people’s person! I am you can say quite an introvert, so sharing a room isn’t really my thing but I do enjoy it with a group of close friends. My ideal sleepover would definitely be with my close circle of friends and my dream theme can be something outdoorsy, like under the stars or bonfire/campfire but with only my group of friends.”

GAME NIGHT

This category refers to an early morning award show or late night football/cricket match. This type of sleepover is a perfect excuse to host your favourite people who are too busy to meet otherwise. But, remember not to get too drunk, because you sure don’t want to miss out on that important moment. THINGS TO DO: - Watching an event itself is a thing to do, but there are more things to be done before it all starts. - So, first clean up the room where the live action will take place, put on a soft music and subtle lights, spread the comforters and pillows, remember to always keep your bathroom clean. - Then, all you have to do is to arrange food and get ready for your guests. FOOD: - For this type of sleepover, keep your food options open, for there might be people who would go for all sorts of unhealthy snacks and then there might be the ones who would be watching their weights. - So, for every packet of crisps you have, keep one salad for the sophisticated ones. - Remember to keep finger foods in plenty because no likes to refill their plates when Dhoni is on fire. - French fries is a must, because you never know who might turn out to be a vegetarian of the lot, also keep healthy options like baked potatoes and fruit salads/chicken salads for the ones who love eating healthy and maybe fried chicken or fish fingers for the ones who can easily be labelled as carnivores!

Power Walking

Where: Necklace Road Mr. Sarath Chandra, a 60 year old grandfather, is a healthy man at heart and believes strongly in the concept of fitness and activeness. He pushes his children and grandchildren to involve themselves in some form of activity that ‘keeps them going’. He proposes, “In this young age especially, I believe children of all ages should constantly endeavor to achieve something, not just for a healthy heart and body, but also for a healthy mind. I do not like it when my children sit idle. Sometimes, it is okay, but not all the time. Idleness all the time only makes a man lazy. And young children should be far from being lazy. They should be high-spirited, energetic, active and quick on their feet. In fact, every individual of all ages should be away from the pathogenic ailment of laziness. This is why, every time I find free time on my hand, which is majority of the time because of my age, I involve myself in a task. And in the mornings and evenings especially, I power walk. So it’s not just strolling. I think strolling does not do much benefit. So I try and power walk, and fortunately, that has helped me stay active and healthy.” The optimistic and motivating grandfather suggests power walking as a good form of activity and exercise for those who are trying to get rid of their state of inertia or lethargy. He walks at necklace road, where he says he finds company in many, and welcomes anyone who is willing to join him.

Dancing

My favorite form: Zumba Harsha Maheshwari, ‘aka Komet’, is a 23 year old beautiful lady who is part of the auspicious Zumba fitness maneuver. Harsha’s life stands erect owing to the virtue of the foundation of love she holds in her heart for dance that also haunts her quotidian, habitual routine. Zumba is a fitness challenge thrown at an individual if they are aiming to secure a fit-self. Popular nationally and internationally, “Zumba focuses its attention to dance forms and steps, incorporating aerobic elements, to give you the physique you desire, treated with health and fitness,” elucidates the dance devotee. Harsha is of the opinion that wherever and whenever one finds sufficient time, they should dance because dance, according to her, will never bore one, will never disappoint one, and will only make one happier, healthier, and hale and hearty. Harsha is conducting classes to succeeding well-being at 360 Degrees Fitness Gym, Banjara Hills, and at The Hobby Hub, Kalpataru. She inspires and emboldens a crowd of yearning mortals that are striving propitiously to be fit as a fiddle. She encourages everyone to join Zumba classes, and she sincerely vows they will only benefit from them.

Yoga

Where: Sharmila’s Yoga Studio While many would associate activeness to persistent tumult, Mrs. Fariha Khan favors peaceful involvement in an activity, during her free time. A 47 year old teacher at Nasr Pre-Primary School, and a wife & mother at home, Mrs. Fariha Khan diligently and rigorously performs her duties in a relentless aura of chaos and havoc. Therefore, when the healthy lady finds leisure around the corner, she inclines to the nearest Yoga studio – Sharmila’s Yoga Studio – to find peace. “I do not think one should unnecessarily waste time, but I also believe that, when one finds free time, they should rest. However, my form of rest lies in Yoga for the simple reason that it gives me more peace than sleep would, or perhaps a much peaceful sleep later. Sharmila’s Yoga Studio undertakes three styles – power yoga, hatha yoga, and vinyasa yoga. They use techniques of meditation, pranayama, yoga, and nidra. Growing up watching her adults being profusely active, Aditi herself cannot remain in an inactive stand. The young girl spends all the free time she has, away from her Dental Surgery studies at Oyster Swimming Pool. Hydrophilic by nature, Aditi loves to spend her time in the pool. Sharing the details, Aditi adds, “The timings for ladies exclusively, at Oyster Swimming Pool, are 6.00a.m to 7.00a.m and 2.00p.m to 3.00p.m. They provide a lady coach especially during these hours. One can take a monthly, quarterly, halfyearly or yearly membership, and training is provided for beginners.” She insists that those who have free time should consider swimming as it keeps one healthy, fit, and active, and because, in her words, “There’s no place more beautiful than under water.”

Cycling Where: KBR Park

While all others at his age busy themselves with work, 22 year old Fareed Khan is more partial to his cycle that is his all time favorite ride. He takes off, with his paddle bike, to KBR Park, which is the only place besides his home where he is allowed to RIP [ride in peace]. Fareed claims he is not an expert at riding a bicycle, but challenges jokingly to out-beat anyone who attempts to compete with him. The two-wheeler wizard complains that his work, over the course of a day, gives him little time to enjoy his personal bike-date, but he brightly reiterates that in his free time he paddles away. Fareed’s friends reveal that he is one of the most energetic men they know, and they disclose how he is anti-lethargic, unwilling to subject himself to long hours of television or games. Therefore, Fareed goes over to the KBR Park as soon as he gets free time in the evenings so he can utilize his energy in best, possibly positive manner.

Blogging Where : Love.Hope.Dream Samreen Ahmed is an efficient blogger, her blog smartly named ‘Love. Hope. Dream.’ A 24 year old aspiring journalist, Samreen spends her free time getting out and shopping all kinds of things, eating in all kinds of restaurants, and exploring, so she can tune in the people on the latest and interesting updates through her lifestyle blog. Speaking of herself, and her blog, she reinstates, “My blog is something that excites me every day to try something new and share it with everyone. It helps me to follow up details of everything from food to even furniture very closely and get new ideas and try new things. I’m a person who is up for anything fun and new, which is why I love my blog.” She chirps that one can always start up a blog and busy themselves; in fact, in a pleasurable manner when they have plenty of time. “Free time should not be equivalent to a mentally inactive trance. One should realize the importance of respite and take to some creative mental or physical activity.”

Conclusively, it is noticeable that people, over time, are becoming more dynamic and favour activity over languor for a lot of right reasons. If you belong to the oppositional school of thought, well then, it’s never too late. 66 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

Taher Shah’s ‘Angel’, a must watch for old to new-borns!

Well, we assume you know, Mr Taher Shah, the controversy’s new found love. If you haven’t already, we suggest you first go and have a look at his video! Though it’s easier to make fun of the video, (he appears clad in purple robes, wearing a tiara. Standing before a tree, and roaming through a golf course, he croons that he is “like an angel” and that his heart is “like a rose... [Like] mankind’s soul”) the man has given us people some much needed explanation. According to a post on his official blog, there is an ideology behind the song. This ideology identifies that “loneliness, love and children” are the most important elements of humanity, and that mankind (composed of “flower-like” angels) should be “spreading love”. Well-put Mr. Taher! We wonder what the rest of the world will make out of this video! Hence, if you are on the same page as us, go have a look at the reaction-video made by the staff of US Consulate in Karachi. That’s a winner too!

MOVIES Movie Reviews

FAN Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Waluscha de Sousa, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Deepika Amin, Yogendra Tiku, Sayani Gupta; Directed by: Maneesh Sharma; In a star-struck country, where hero worshipping is a norm, “Fan” is an insightful film looking into the obsessive, delusional behaviour of a star admirer and his love for his matinee idol. Basically, the film is a battle of wills between Gaurav Chandna, the fan, and Aryan Khanna, the star. Delhi-based Gaurav is the reigning heart-throb Aryan’s doppelganger and a die-hard fan. It is his dream to meet his idol. So crazy is he that he follows the same trail as his idol to Mumbai and goes to any lengths to protect his star. The film belongs to Shah Rukh Khan, who in a dual role is a treat for his fans. Of the rest of the supporting cast, Deepika Amin and Yogendra Tiku, as Gaurav’s parents are fairly competent. Waluscha de Sousa as Aryan’s wife and Shriya Pilgaonkar as Gaurav’s love interest Neha, in small roles make their presence felt. Visually, Director of Photography (DOP) Manu Anand’s images are impressive. Namrata Rao’s razor sharp edits are crisp and note-worthy. She aptly layers the visuals and Andrea Guerra’s background score to make the film a sound and visual delight. THE JUNGLE BOOK Cast (Voices): Neel Sethi, Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o, Christopher Walken, Scarlett Johansson; Directed by: Jon Favreau; The slushy escape from a mad tiger and a landslide, astride a water buffalo, is worth a Revenant. The slouch atop a branch where a child, a panther and a bear hang out together, into the sunset, is worth a Lion King. The destruction wrought by an angry giant monkey is worth a King Kong. The heartbreak of a goodbye between friends is worth a Finding Nemo. The Shere Khan will haunt your sleep, the Baloo cheer up your day, and the Mowgli will make every child, and adult, want to walk swinging those arms just a bit. This is The Jungle Book reinvented for 2016, by a director who knows just how to mix the heavy blows with the light touch. Favreau, and screenplay writer Justin Marks, who struggle a bit in the beginning with all the harmony, come alive from here on as the film ventures into the jungle. If you look hard enough, you can spot the wily wisdom of Kingsley in Bagheera, the unmatched jowly languor of Murray in Baloo, the shiny and a spiky Walken in King Louie. Though nothing prepares you for the ferociousness and vehemence the mild-mannered Elba packs into Shere Khan. THERI Cast:Vijay, Samantha, Amy Jackson, Radhika Sarathkumar, Mahendran, Baby Nainika; Directed by: Atlee; Theri, has all of the ingredients to make the movie into a masala that Indian cinema terms entertainment. In the first hour of the film’s run time of 158 minutes has five songs and dances -one of them with Vijay (playing Indian Police Service Officer, Vijay Kumar) and his lady love, Mithra (a Bengali name that Samantha sports), dressed in Arabian costumes! Here’s a curious case of imagination running wilder than the movie’s make-believe creation. When Vijay is not swaying to the beat of the drums and the hum of the musical notes, he plays Mr Noble in Khaki, bumping off a powerful minister’s (Mahendran in his debut role, and what a fine piece of acting from a man who once directed classics like Uthiripookal and NenjathaiKillathey) son, because he molested and murdered a young Information Technology professional. Beyond this, there is little novelty in a plot that only appears rehashed (probably for the nth time) with some annoying and ethically questionable police methodology. However, to be fair to Atlee and his Theri, I must say that he got Vijay into a rare emotional mould. The star actually cries a great deal more than he usually does.

They are both broken, yet they are in love—they are colliding planets, specks of sand on this place we call Earth. They meet at a local pottery shop where Jonah has taken his littlest sister, Leah, to create her own piece of art. This is just the beginning. Jonah suffers from intense grief after the sudden death of his father (a local restaurant owner), which manifests itself through his own gift of cooking. Vivi has a zest for life and a hatred of life, sometimes simultaneously. Nonetheless, Vivi and Jonah give each other what they didn’t know they needed, before they knew they needed it. When

Eligible: A Modern Retelling of Pride and Prejudice (Curtis

Sittenfeld)

It’s hard to know for certain which bits of our culture Jane Austen would have critiqued if she had been writing today. But in “Eligible,” billed as a “modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice,” Curtis Sittenfeld lampoons CrossFit, reality television, tech start-ups, women’s magazines, independently wealthy yoga instructors, millennials and know-it-all journalists. Sounds fun, right? It is. Sittenfeld, the bestselling author of “Prep,” penned “Eligible” as part of the Austen Project, which pairs contemporary authors with Austen’s works. In this version, the Bennet family resides in an old Tudor home in a tony suburb of Cincinnati.

With a horoscope that promises a marriage of Death and Destruction, she has earned only the scorn and fear of her father’s kingdom. Content to follow more scholarly pursuits, her whole world is torn apart when her father, the Raja, arranges a wedding of political convenience to quell outside rebellions. Soon Maya becomes the queen of Akaran and wife of Amar. Neither roles are what she expected: As Akaran’s queen, she finds her voice and power. As Amar’s wife, she finds something

We Collided boils down to feelings: strong feelings, flat feelings, non-feelings and all of the feelings in between. It explores identity and individuality, what makes us human and flawed. Mental illness is a growing, trending topic in YA lit, but the latest novel from Emery Lord stands apart. It doesn’t focus on recovery or diagnosis, but rather on endurance, on how living with a mental illness affects that person as well as the people who surround them. Where We Collided digs its claws in, leaves readers gasping for air and likely speechless and in tears. Lord sensitively and adequately explores how happiness is a puzzle that we work toward completing, with each person’s pieces being different, but all creating a beautiful work of the art we call life.

Jane, the eldest of the five Bennet sisters, and second-oldest Liz live in New York. Mary, Kitty and Lydia all still live at home, where Liz judges them from afar at first, then in person when Liz and Jane fly back to Cincy to help at home after the surly Mr. Bennet has a heart attack. Ivy League-educated doctors are the aristocrats in this version of “Pride and Prejudice,” but the “Bachelor”-like reality show “Eligible” is what rescues the Bennets financially. Well, that and marrying rich. Sittenfeld’s story and voice are jarringly different from Austen, but some things don’t change — and that includes the absolute readability of clever social commentary told with wit and a wink.

else entirely: Compassion, protection. Magic and myth, life and death, fate and love - Roshani Chokshi enchants with a beautifully written narrative of one girl’s quest for freedom and true love. Inspired by Indian mythology, the story unravels in a vividly imagined world where stars dictate fate. Chokshi’s lyrical style warmly envelops the reader, drawing them into a deeply mythical world where anything can happen. But one can definitely see even deeper character explorations. The world just teemed with possibility. The Star-Touched Queen is an impressive, spellbinding debut which is sure to set the fantasy readership abuzz.

TAROT

Forecast For

May 2016 - Tarot reading by Nupur Heda Patil

GEMINI

LEO

You are happy masters of your life and nothing will change it in May. You like deciding about who will become your friend or what you will do. The month, May, will try to teach you to be a bit less critical and much more tolerant. Do not be so demanding. You may miss a lot of interesting things, experiences and people. You should also try to avoid conflicts in this month. In the past, you may have come out of disputes with a clean shield but you may not be so lucky this month. The new month, May, has spread cards in a different way than you are used to. Show a heart of a big player and play with the destiny.

You will be guided by angels through the whole 4 weeks of the month, May. Angels will bring happiness and satisfaction to your life. You will be satisfied, balanced and the destiny will be on your side. Thanks to the fact that you perceive the world positively and optimistically you will manage to achieve everything you do. Do not be afraid of new challenges as well as old, unsolved problems. If you feel there is an obstacle in front of you, stop for a while and try to imagine it from all sides. The solution you find will help you in every difficult situation you may have to deal with.

(born May 21 - June 20)

CANCER

(born June 21 - July 22) The month, May, will bring you a lot of beautiful things, but some problems will appear too. The minor health problems that you have suffered from for a long time, may unfortunately get worse. However, every cloud has a silver lining. Therefore do not get upset. The seeming evil that will cause the worsening of your health problems will actually be the way out of a difficult situation. It will lead you to professional doctors who will eventually help you with your health problems at the end of the month. The solution they will bring will fill you with optimism and joy. A good thing is that in other areas of your life you can expect only good news. The month, May, will be full of adventures and challenges you will deal with pretty easily. 78 MAY, 2016 - TULIP

(born July 23 - August 22)

VIRGO

(born August 23 - September 22) The month, May, will bring to you a lot of interesting news. The greatest news would probably be the solution of your housing. Angels together with the card spread will help you to get a mortgage or a construction at the beginning of the month. Nothing will get in your way to better housing. It may happen that you will get an unexpected source of finances – inheritage, lottery, etc. You must think twice before you use the money. With this money there may also appear people who will envy you. Be cautious because you must distinguish between people who are really your friends and are worth your attention and people who are false and are waiting for the first opportunity to hurt you.

TAROT

LIBRA

AQUARIUS

Angels that will surprisingly diverge from the influence of cards, will bring to you quite a few pleasant surprises and experiences. You have never been so social as in May. Not only you will look for company and attend various social events, but you will also be a very popular companion. You will be original, fresh, inventive and full of energy that will accompany you through the whole month May, mostly at the end of month and beginning weeks.

The first half of the month will bring a kind of a slow-down. Angels will leave you without warning which will bring feelings of frustration and inferiority. Do not get upset because in the second half of the month luck will come back to you and you will gradually be successful again. Despite knowing that you can expect a bad period you (that will not last long) you will manage to keep sanity and a cool mind. Thanks to that, you will avoid major problems and complications that may come in case you cease to trust in yourself and start to give up.

(born September 23 - October 22)

SCORPIO

(born January 20 - February 18)

(born October 23 - November 21)

PISCES

For Scorpios, the month of May will be a more peaceful period than they are used to. The health problems you have been suffering from for a long time will be solved and you will feel well – better than ever. The overall atmosphere around you will be relaxed and pleasant. The conflict-free environment will be good for you and a peaceful family pace will slow you down and it will help you relax more often. If you are a parent, your children will bring only joy to you in the month. Their successes will fill you with pride and enthusiasm. The only thing you should be careful about are hasty decisions. Before you make the final decision, you should think everything over again.

The problems with housing that have been worrying you for a long time should be solved in the course of the month. The new perspective that you get in the month of May will bring you new ideas and open new horizons that will lead you to a solution you´d have never thought of. Do not be afraid to renovate things and start major repairs. Thanks to the energy that the month of May brings to you will achieve everything you wish. You may consider buying a new house or moving into a larger flat. There is nothing that would prevent your happiness.

SAGITTARIUS

(born November 22 - December 21) Angels have forebodingly crept to your sign and it will not bring anything good to you in the month of may. You will have to be more careful than you are used to. Do not underestimate any health problems and arrange an appointment with your doctor! It will probably be nothing serious but you will have to také a good care of your health. Try to keep optimism and do not succumb to bad mood and pessimism. Remember that every cloud has a silver lining. Every obstacle you will have to deal with in the month of May will move you forward. Although you will have to make considerable effort to overcome it, you will gain experience that you will find very useful in the future.

CAPRICORN

(born December 22 - January 19) The month, May, will bring to you the desired peace. This is exactly what you need after stormy times that preceded the month of May. Relax and gain new energy. Recharge your body with energy. This energy will fill your body to such extent that you will pass it on other people. You need not worry that the month of May will lack excitement or dynamic. The inflow of enthusiasm and energy will ignite the flame in you again and you will be willing to achieve higher results and goals. It is only up to you which direction you will take. The success is granted!

(born February 19 - March 20)

ARIES

(born Mar. 21 - April 19) With a bit of exaggeration you can say that the month of May will be ground-breaking. The period of chaos will be replaced with a complete opposite. You can expect sunny days with a spectacular programme. You can expect small individual successes that will merge into a coherent picture of your happy period. The connection of Angels will arouse your determination to the maximum. If you are thinking of changing your appearance – whether it is a new hair colour, new hairdo or something even more radical such as undergoing an eye operation and getting rid of glasses, do not hesitate! The stars have prepared ideal conditions for your way towards perfection.

TAURUS

(born April 20 - May 20) The month of May brings to you literally bursts of energy that will fill your whole body. This cannot remain without consequences. Luckily for you, everything that you achieve, thanks to this energy and strength will be very good and will bring to you the feeling of satisfaction both in the personal and professional life. Throughout the month of May, you will be a source of energy not only for yourself but also for people who surround you. The positive impulse that you pass on to them is able to improve the relationships and melt the ice between you and the others, that has been here for months.
