Tulip is a whole package of information about our city. Being busy with my work I am usually not aware of what’s happening in the city. But Tulip provides me with all the events and happenings of the city. With such a busy schedule Tulip is like a boon, I know everything what’s going around without actually roaming around the city. Vishwajeet, Software Engineer The overall look of the magazine is really nice. My first glance at it, I was impressed and continue reading it from then. It covers all the aspects of the twin cities and I enjoy reading all the sections, it is short and yet very informative. Looking forward to read more such issues from Tulip. Sandeep, Businessman

CITY Workshop on Face Reading

It was a day to uncover one’s potential abilities through a Face Reading workshop conducted at NIFT recently. The workshop saw many of the city students and the event was organized and designed by RA Events. The second best face reader in the world Mr. Zane Cuxton who hails from Bengaluru was called upon as the guest of honor for the workshop. Zane Cuxton made the audience aware about the basic knowledge of face reading. He mentioned that the most unforgettable and unique feature of a human is his/her face which in its structure reflects its owners personal history, mental attitudes, intimacy, ethics, emotional style and verbal communication. The workshop had a strong impact on the audience who were curious to know more about face reading, putting up several questions to Zane, who answered them interestingly.

Queer Pride Walk

The city witnessed its first gay pride walk, where people from all walks of life participated holding colorful flags and shouting slogans like “Gay by birth, proud by choice”. People gathered at PV Narasimha Rao Ghat and happily marched all the way to People’s Plaza with their heads high, getting, rid of the dishonor they received till today. But unexpected part was apart from Hyderabadis, people from other cities turned up to enjoy the freedom and participated in the walk too. It was a healing experience for number of LGBTs (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) of the city who were seen dressed in beautiful attires walking hand in hand all through the way. The stage set up at People’s Plaza saw many of the transgenders performing on various Bollywood numbers. It proved to be a great platform for the LGBTs to express themselves through a small dose of entertainment. Many of the women’s groups and organizations also showed their concern towards the LGBT community spreading the word about the march. All the people present at the walk celebrated the honor and the victory of their battle made the event a successful and a memorable one.

The media had a tough time asking their questions to the movies biggest star Sanjay Dutt who came along with wife Manyata. It was disappointing that he gave an early exit but to maintain the spirit of the event, his co-star Arshad Warsi entertained the audience with his funny talks. It was actress Geeta Basra in a pretty pink dress who was seen keenly interacting with the media. It is said that her item song Ghaziabad Ki Rani Hoon Main in the movie is something different and fresh to watch. 22 MARCH, 2013

WELLBEING

The Boon of Counseling Counseling is a magical tool that can do wonders on people. But due to low awareness, and information about it people end up seeing it as a medical need for someone who is mentally ill. No its not. Counseling helps you overcome your day to day crisis, to deal with specific problems, cope with crises, improve your relationships, or develop better ways of living. It is a talking therapy that offers people a chance to change how they feel and to live better. Counseling provides a regular time and space for people to talk about their troubles and explore difficult feelings in an environment that is dependable and free from intrusion.

To know in detail we had a conversation with

Dr. Diana Monterio, Director The Hyderabad Academy of Psychology. Despite the name, counselors don’t usually offer advice. Instead, they help you to gain insight into your feelings and behavior and to change your behavior, if necessary. They do this by listening to what you have to say and commenting on it from their particular professional perspective. You may come to counseling because of difficult experiences you’ve been going through, such as a relationship breakdown, regret or joblessness. Or you may want help dealing with feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety or low self-worth that don’t seem to be connected to any particular event. Don’t be held back just because you feel ‘what others might think’, because if something can make you feel better, and help you lead a better life then, its your decision for your life and not others. Dr. Diana Monteiro obtained her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi, USA and worked as a licensed psychologist in Tennessee, USA, before returning to India in 2008. Her passion for providing psychological services made her initiate ‘The Hyderabad Academy of Psychology’ in Vikrampuri, Secunderabad in 2009. At HAP, Dr. Monteiro and her team of hand-picked counselors practice counseling, conduct courses and workshops, and supervise other counselors-in-training. She is someone who’s intelligent, accomplished and warm, a top-notch trainer and counselor. Her specialty areas include working with adolescents and adults, suicide prevention, relationship concerns, communication and multicultural issues. What exactly is counseling? Counseling is not a rocket science. It is an

intricate and abstract process which includes multiple ways of dealing with your own self to make your life better. It is possible only if you are motivated enough to bring a change in yourself erasing the problems that trouble you. It’s an emotional support which helps you deal with your day to day problems, a way of figuring out a solution to understand yourself better.

It is good to note that some people are coming forward to take counseling sessions instead thinking that it is a bizarre. The attitude of people towards counseling is now on a changing sphere. Thanks to the urban mind set and the internet which are making people accept the practice of counseling. But fear still prevails in the mind if many, when they have to discuss about it with their peers or anyone.

What is the first step in counseling? I think the first step in the area of counseling is decision making. It is difficult, confusing and the hardest to decide that you need counseling, once you decide that, half the battle is won. And when a patient comes to me, I introduce myself to him/her, assure them of confidentiality. Then I get to know about their problem. And only after that I start analyzing the problem and carry on giving him feedback.

How will counseling help in daily life problems like stress, depression, etc? Your daily life problems like stress, depression, relationship issues, etc. could all be solved if you attend few counseling sessions instead of banging your head and getting frustrated. It gives much relief to your mind helping you cope with your problem. It gives you space, where you can talk about how you are feeling, without having the thoughts of being judged, offended or even hurting someone. Because counselors are there for your help, and give you a professional viewpoint without judging you.

How do you think taking counseling sessions changes a person? It helps a person to face his problems instead of running away from it. It doesn’t change him during the counseling sessions, it is only after the session when the person implements the solutions in his daily life. He feels a change in his attitude as well as in his thinking. Is counseling prevention or a cure? Counseling is both prevention and cure to your problems. During your counseling sessions, you are provided with solutions as well as taught to recognize and deal with the problems which may occur in your near future. Counseling is not a strange thing, it is just a method to help you achieve your potential by learning to do things for yourselves. It is indeed a long term plan to make your life better. Have people become open to counseling?

Any memorable project or workshop which you conducted in your career? A workshop on Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender which proved to be really successful is the one close to her heart. I was surprised when the transgender individuals themselves turned up to attend the workshop. It actually ran the other way round where I wanted to train the upcoming counselors giving them tips to counsel the transgender individuals. Advice for our readers? You approach us and we give you solution to deal with any of your problem. Attend a counseling session, change your mind and make yourself feel better. Counseling is a foolproof treatment without any side effects, changing your life for better.

Say No To Stress!!!

In today’s world exams are an unfortunate necessity. There is a lot of pressure on both children and parents to succeed. While this article can’t make the exams go away it will hopefully help you to deal with some of the stress that you might be feeling and that in turn will allow you to focus on your exams. People who experience stress may be irritable, not be able to sleep well, lose interest in food, worry a lot and appear depressed or negative. Headaches and stomach pains can also be stress-related. Stress during exams is a common thing which kills a student mentally. It is very important to deal with it in the right way and at the right time. Sometimes it turns out to be irresistible making the student feel low and uneasy. No, never feel so, instead take help, look out for ways to reduce your tension, calm your mind, kill that stress in you and put the best on the exam paper.

Exams are a huge part of the school & college experience, it is something you have to deal with in life. Everyone gets stressed during exams but it’s important not to go out of control. In most of the cases, stress to the students can be from the parents as well. Parents usually compare their kids with others and want their kid to be performing well and top in the examinations. Sometimes it becomes a prestige issue for them, but definitely not for the kid who undergo peer pressure from his/her parents. It is sad to see that parents, instead of encouraging their kids pressurize them. Never compare your abilities with your mates. It may be the foremost reason for your stress. Always believe in yourself and try to perform the best. Keep yourself focused. Make sure you are confident in everything you do.

We have a few tips that will hopefully help you to deal with some of the stress that you might be feeling and allow you to focus on your exams. Improve your study habits - Studying is one of those necessary evils. No one likes to study, but it’s a necessary part of doing well .Find a time and place where you can study in peace. A trip to the library might just be the ticket to get some quality study time. Find a happy place - If the weather is nice, studying outside can be a great stress reliever. Find a nice spot on the lawn, put out a blanket, and grab your books. Plus, you’ll be getting Vitamin D. You will focus better outside your comfort place. A changed atmosphere could calm your mind. Breathe - Before starting your exam, or if you need a break during the exam, take a few deep breaths to help clear your mind. Having a clear mind will help you focus. Take regular breaks and plan - Each individual has a concentration span. Identify that and then take short breaks accordingly. This will allow your mind and body to relax. Draw up a realistic revision schedule and stick to it, it’s not healthy to constantly have your nose in a book. To maximize your concentration, break up your time into 15-minute seg26 MARCH, NOVEMBER, 20132012

tein too. Also, try to get some form of exercise. Even a 10 minute walk will leave you calmer and more focused. Just say NO- What you need to say no to, are the people who want to take up your time. There will probably be a friend who needs to talk to you for hours about her life or a party the night before your final, and if you say yes, you’ll probably be tempted to blow off studying. Resist the urge. Say no to the distractions and be selfish for a day. Visualize it all going right- Imagine yourself taking the test and feeling confident that you know all the information. Picture getting all of the answers right, and focus on how relaxed you feel. When you imagine a happy ending, most of the stress runs away from you.

Sleep- Adequate amounts of sleep will help you perform better in exams and keep you healthy. Aim for 7-9 hours, with no less than 6 hours of sleep. Sufficient amount of sleep keeps you fresh while writing your exam. Eat healthy and exercise- This seems like a no-brainer, but it’s a wonder how many people forget it. Skip the sugar, which will make you crash, and go for healthy cereal or fruits and veggies to keep your blood sugar stable. If you’re studying for a long period of time, eat some proFor me, the first reason of feeling stressed is the time. I have to complete my task in the accurate time. There is a lot to study before exams in a very less amount of time. To reduce my stress I prefer listening to music, it refreshes my mind and keeps me relaxed. Manaswini, Keshav Memorial Degree College

I am actually very cool, not worried about the exams. I make sure that I complete the portion on time before the exams. Neither do I do night outs nor mug up things at the last moment. The only thing I do before exams is to revise. So where does the question of stress arises? To avoid the stress, I plan out things before itself and complete them on time. Pooja, St.Martins Engineering College 28 MARCH, NOVEMBER, 20132012

TIP FOR PARENTS Don’t add on to the pressure Research has proved that most of the children who feel greatest pressure at exam time come from their family. “Keep things in perspective,” “Listen to them, give support and avoid criticism.” Before they go in for a test or exam, be reassuring and positive. Make sure they know that failing isn’t the end of the world, and that if things don’t go well they may be able to take the exam again. Don’t compare them with other kids, or talk about others achievements and failures, it just adds on to the pressure during exams. After each exam, encourage your child to talk it through with you. Then move on and focus on the next test, rather than dwelling on things that can’t be changed.

Exam time is pressure time. I feel so stressed that I end up getting frustrated at everyone around me. But the method of combined studies reduces my tension to a bit. My close friend and I sit and study together, discuss important topics and clear each other’s doubts. We both encourage each other as well which keeps us calm and ready to face exam. Chandana, Malla Reddy Women’s College Before I start preparing for exams, the first thing I do is, meditate for few minutes. It really helps to concentrate as well as keeps me fresh all through the study hours. To reduce the burden, I prefer making short notes for all the subjects. This also helps me to revise at the last moment. Nirupama, Loyola Academy

I feel the best way to deal with exam stress is to talk to your parents about the problem you are facing. My parents encourage me, giving me ample methods to reduce my stress. I feel relaxed after having a chat with them. Instead of pressurizing me they boost me up to do well. Their encouragement is my biggest strength. Anurag Loyola Academy Studying continuously for hours during exams stresses me out due to which I find difficulty to concentrate. To destress myself, I think of fun moments of my life and take a long breath after which I continue studying. I also take coffee breaks to refresh my mind and boost up my memory. Shieba Rekhi, Loyola Academy

When you meet her you will be delighted in her company, she is cheerful and has a forever smiling face. She is happy go lucky but with a strong emotional side too. She loves her family and treasures every moment with them. Married and settled in Jakarta with her husband Dolly moved back to Hyderabad to give her children a good education and bring them up with same love and care from the family as she grew up with. She along with her kids keeps travelling to Jakarta to be with her husband and so does her husband. She has been in field of jewelry for almost 15 years now, she initiated with being part of jewelry exhibitions in Honkong, China, Dubai and Jakarta. And now when her two beautiful daughters Diya and Ashna grown up she started with her fulltime store ‘ Diyaash- Fine Designer Jewellery’ which got its name from her daughters. She is spiritual, fun loving and a wonderful mom, she is a today’s women who multitasks without compromising and is good at it.

I generally wake up by 6-6.30 am in the morning. Wake up my kids, get them ready for school. Make them have their breakfast and have my share of cereal and milk too. Then send them off to school. Morning hour is totally dedicated to my kids, as I get to see them only in the evening again. 7:30 they are off to school and then it’s me time, sometimes I workout. It helps me stay fresh, calm, composed and stress free throughout the day. Or if I have had a late night I take a short nap. This goes on till 9:30, and then I get ready and leave for my work by 10:30.

11:00 I reach my office, I plan my day and make a list of what needs to be done during the day. Sometimes I have appointments with my clients, staff or workers. I also meet my manufacturers and associates and discuss plans and designs with them during this time. I like to personally attend my clients and so my day is pretty busy. It depends on the urgency of the matter that I prioritize my schedule. I generally have lunch at around 2-2.30 pm in the afternoon at my store itself with others. Sometimes during evenings I go home to check on my girls and spend some time with them and send them off for their tuitions and go back to work. The quality of jewelry and designs are very important to me. I ensure not to leave rough edges anywhere in my work. I don’t take chances with my work and deliver on my clients expectations. Probably, that’s why clients trust and love my work. I am really passionate about my work.

I generally leave office by 8-8.30 pm at night. I go home and have my dinner with kids and family, its totally family time, we discuss each other’s days and catch with each other. My girls sleep by 10:30 and then I have some me time where I just relax and can pamper myself. I like reading and usually my day ends with a little reading. 32 MARCH, 2013

Color Up Your Life Imagine living in a black and white world, where the only tees you wore were black, white or grey. Your favorite shoes meant black or white, the heroines in your favorite songs appeared black and white to you and all you could see around was black and white. Life would be so boring, everything would be so dull. If the leaves didn’t have their color, you wouldn’t adore them. If the sky was not blue, you would not stare at it. If roses were not red, they would never look beautiful. If chocolate was not the yummy brown, if biryani didn’t have the spicy red look to it, you wouldn’t feel like eating it or relishing any of the things in the world. Such is the impact of colors in our lives. Komal Sirwani brings to you the significance of colors and the festival of colors, Holi. While each has its own definition attached to it, all of them together should definitely mean a lot of happiness and joy that you feel when you experience a lot of colors around you.

olors make the environment around you feel beautiful, colorful and eye pleasing. Even a tiny thing like a mobile phone is attractive to you when a colorful cover is placed on its backside. A plain room suddenly gets vibrant when it’s painted with colors. Children, adults or the old, everyone loves colors and everyone lives in a colorful world of their own. With colors around you, it is seldom to have a dull moment in life. You feel alive, you feel lovely when you see a colorful picture of the world in front of your eye. Right from the plush green mornings to the dark black nights, every color holds great value, each color has its own significance and every color conveys some meaning.

C

When colors can make one’s life filled with cheer, the festival of colors brings along with it a lot of prosperity. Holi is one the biggest festivals of India and is celebrated with great pomp and enthusiasm. The whole environment is filled with colors, pichkari’s and water balloons. Friends and foes, everyone celebrates holi together forgetting all their differences to mark a new beginning. The whole festive mood is such that everyone happily obliges to participate in the water and color fights. Only a festival such as Holi can make even a fight look so much fun and contentment in their heart. The entire environment is filled with pleasant colors and happiness during this time. The spiritual significance of Holi is inspiring. It is the story of a boy, Prahlada, who refused to call his father God because he believed in one and only God- the almighty who is above all humans. To teach his son a lesson, Hiranyakashyap the egoistic father who thought there was nothing above him, devised a plan. He asked his sister Holika who was blessed to never burn in fire, to make the son sit in fire

along with her. The mercy of the lord upon the child was witnessed when Holika was burnt and the child came out safely. Holi, where on one hand is enjoyed with colors and water, it also teaches us to burn our vices in the holy fire and let go of all our pride and ego. Hyderabad celebrates Holi in its own nawabi style. Several bashes are held with great food, loud music, rain dance, colorful splash pools and a lot of colors to play with. Everyone in the city looks forward to the amazing preparations done during Holi to make it a joyful festival for one and all. Colors are of the deepest significance to us throughout all phases in our life. They have more influence on us than we can possibly imagine. Whenever life hits a low note, bright and cheerful colors can infuse one with happiness and energy and the strength to cope whereas dark drab and dingy colors tend to pull down one’s spirit and morale. Every color has its use, be it positive or negative. What is important is the innovative usage of colors. It can add a zing to life and give a deeper meaning to our life’s rhythm. Holi is the festival of colors, emotions and happiness. A day to celebrate and let goand what better way to do it than squirting colored water, throwing fistfuls of powdered colors of mesmerizing hues at friends, family and even strangers. With loud music and fun filled chatter in the background. Lastly no celebration can be complete without a round of intoxicating bhang with a variety of mouth watering delicacies such as pakoras, sandeshis and thandai to enhance the mood of the festival. Neethi Vigg, Teacher

To identify substances and environment, importance of necessity of color is absolutely clear. Color and its usage technique is the basic element of visual communication. Innovative usage of color, can give a deep meaning to our life’s rhythm. The bluish sky with a cute rainbow can cause happiness and excitement, whereas in an autumn’s day, a dark and gray sky gives a gloomy face to the nature. Holi, the festival of colors is celebrated after the full moon day in the month of phalgun. It is traditionally a harvest festival like all Hindu festivals. The reason for the celebration of holi can be traced to Hindu scriptures and it commemorates the victory of good over evil. The significance of holi is that victory achieved by a young devotee through his unshakable devotion for the lord. Vamshi Bharadwaj, Student A life without colors feels so dry and monotonous. The sense of color is as extended as the sense of life. The colors of life can change a dull day into the brightest day ever. Holi is a celebration of start of summer. It is a celebration of colors, joy, laughter and great food. Holi is one of my favorites because it’s celebrated quite differently from other festivals in India where you splash beautiful myriad of colors and water on your family and friends and for once you do not care how you look. Shruthi Gooda, Student

Life without colors is nothing. Colors can influence your moods, feelings and emotions. Colors influence your actions and how you respond to people, situations and ideas. As a dance instructor, for me colors is very important part of dance, because colors is the meaning of life where I can portray different shades of life through dance. The festival of colors is holi and I celebrate with my friends and share joy and happiness with music, masti and dance. Aryan Rajput, Owner, Twists n Turns

Which she did for almost a whole year. Her father never wasted a minute of his day, and kept himself busy with his work or indulges in his passions and hobbies. And the same qualities have been passed on to his daughter Suhani. The same drive, discipline and the same determination. No doubt her father has been her inspiration all along.

“Work is in my DNA. I believe it does not matter how big or how small what you do is . As long you have put in hours of fruitful expedition, you are achieving success daily!!” She believes,’ whether you are a boy or a girl, God has sent you with a purpose. We may take long to discover what the purpose is but it’s our duty and obligation to work on a path that takes us towards it.’ Her current career of a Jewelry designer was absolutely unplanned. they don’t. Women constitute 50 per cent of the world population and perform nearly 2/3rds of all work. Yet we receive one tenth of the world income and own less than 1 per cent of the world wealth. This is gross inequality. But that is changing, slow and steady. Today women are leaders, CEO’s, bankers and men work under them. There is respect for talent and capability. But change has to be at the micro level. It has to begin at home. The man should know, the house cannot function if a woman does not put her energy into it. He should be grateful, appreciative and thankful and not take the women for granted. Suggestion to young women - Never fear and never say die! Follow your guts and instincts. We women are specially blessed with them and in no way we are less than a man. So stand tall and stay focused.

And definitely today Neerus is a National Brand and not just a chain of retail outlets. Later, I formed another brand “Little Neerus” which was dedicated to the Kids being Fashion Lovers nowadays and inspiration for this Brand is my own Daughter-”Raaina”. Woman of today is - Women of today are definitely more advanced and intelligent compared to previous generations. One reason could be that woman of today are more educated and have more freedom. A Woman of today can live her life without any support from a man, and has the ability to do anything what a man can do. I think the hidden talent in women is getting explored. Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work - Yes they do appreciate the hard work, but not their willingness to be recognized for their work. There is still dominancy for a man’s work. Suggestion to young women - Just keep working towards fulfilling your dreams, and always aim higher. Do not lose hope if you have to face any challenges. Try to find solutions to the pitfalls on your way. Present your work wherever you have an opportunity. This helps you to create your own identity.

Of course it has few upsetting moments too, but overall I would say it’s been amazing. Woman of today is- Well aware, confident, believes in herself. Though there are lot of women who are still suffering from a lot of things, but the presence of media everywhere contributes a lot in gaining awareness, and educating them on how to deal with things around them. Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work - Not much, I think people of India still lack in giving women the right recognition for their hard work and contribution, they are not looked up with same respect and appreciation as men are. Most connected example I can give is our Indian badminton team where men’s team has 10 players, and girl’s team has only 4 players.

profession since 10 years and I am looking forward to have great progress in the field.

“When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.” Women Inspiration- Inspiration, Role Model, Respect – When I think of these words only one woman comes to my mind ‘My MOM’. I owe everything that I am, to her. She has imbibed good values, taught me that life is just too beautiful and important to brood over things big or small, and above all the essence of life is to forgive and forget. She has been the pillar of strength and backbone of support through the challenging phase of my life. She handles everything with a smile, which makes her adorable just not to us but to everyone who comes in contact with her. Nothing in this world is more important to me than my mom. Journey so far- The journey has been short in terms of time, but long in terms of experience. It has been marked with struggle, achievements, and disappointments, all contributing to learning’s and the realization that I am stronger than I thought. The experiences gave a reaffirmation of what I wanted to do. I utilized these learning’s and experiences to reach where I am now. Woman of today is- Well, it was in 1994 the statement ‘Woman of Substance’ was made famous by our very own Ms Universe, and since then women have been evolving as successful personalities. Today we only speak about the success of idea/concept/business/person and not what gender they belong to. Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work- When we talk about society, the gender ratio is almost equal in India. So the society comprises equal representation from women. And I am sure women do appreciate success of their own. And like I said as a society, we are in a state where all good work is appreciated irrespective of the gender. Look around and we can see hard work appreciated and recognized. The saying “Behind every successful man is a woman”, holds vice versa. Suggestion to young women- Keeping an eye on what’s happening around, acquire qualities and awareness about risk prevailing at home, workplace, traveling and when staying outside home. Have a positive attitude, strong determination towards life with goals set for future and strive to achieve them till you succeed.

Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work - I don’t think society, even today does justice to women, for their hard work. Most of the time it is taken for granted as a woman’s duty to do what she does. We are born to believe that some things are meant for women to do, and not expect any recognition or appreciation in return. Suggestion to young women - Today as a strong independent woman my only suggestion to young girls would be to stay focused and identify your goals, dreams and be passionate about it. ven during her college day’s she was enamoured by the way brands were built and how communication slowly became very important and integral to the marketing mix. So, when she got her first opportunity to join the hospitality industry as part of PR and marketing function she knew, this is where she was meant to be. Additionally, the opportunity to meet up and network with people from varied background and nationalities is what continues to endear her towards this profession. “Dream big and be open to learning and innovation” Women Inspiration- Princess Diana is one woman I am completely in awe of. She was truly a woman of substance. A people’s person who knew what she wanted and went an extra mile to achieve it. 40 MARCH, 2013

Journey so far -It’s been a fruitful journey for more than 7 years now. I have got the opportunity to pick up all the tricks of the trade, have successfully honed my skills and bettered as an individual. Moreover I have come across people from various walks of life and it has been an interesting exchange of ideas and experiences. I am proud where I am today and hope to continue at the same pace in my endeavour towards perfection. Woman of today is - Confident of herself and is well versed professionally. She walks at par with the opposite sex. Not only does she continue being a perfect homemaker like olden days, but a successful professional as well. Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work - I definitely think so. The more successful a woman is, the more she is respected and admired in the society. Suggestion to young women - Always believe that you are at par with the opposite sex, if not better! There is nothing that cannot be achieved if you are sincere in your endeavors. Believing in yourself is the first step towards to success.

Ashrita Vemuganti, Classical dancer

I

nitiated into the art form since a very young age, she developed a natural liking for the same. From a hobby to passion to profession, it has been a smooth and gradual progression for her.

Women Inspiration - I respect every woman who respects herself! Having a role model is my favourite source of motivation. While my mom and teachers have been constants, at every stage I have identified myself with various women of substance. “When the purpose is great, the result is greater.” Journey so far - The journey of performing began when I was 8 and is still on. After finishing my masters program, the responsibility has doubled and I am hoping to give it my all henceforth. Woman of today is - Strong and has qualities that are timeless. With her natural gift of understanding, enduring and sharing, she has and will continue to make this world what it is. I am hoping the growth of education today spells unleashing power every woman has. Do you think society appreciates women, their hard work, and their will to be recognized for their work - Society does appreciate educated and talented women but the percentage is very, very small. Achievers in some fields get media attention easily while there are many more doing their services silently. So, it is difficult to weigh how fairly the recognition is divided. On women’s day last year, our university decided to honour women from unconventional backgrounds like automobile service, fire and aviation industries, etc. Such recognition will throw light on rare fields, in turn serving as an inspiration to young aspirants. Suggestion to young women - If you are convinced of your potential and are willingly ready to smartly work your way up in this complex world, if you can rightly balance the various roles a woman is expected to play, if you can stand up for your achievements and failures with equal grit, if you genuinely believe in the purpose of your journey, then the world is yours.

Rendezvous with the Czar himself

FASHION

Satpreet Kaur meets JJ Valaya who was in city for the launch of his latest collection at Red Carpet. And found out more about his collection, inspiration and revelations on fashion trends. He is known for his opulent bridal trousseau. He literally brings history to your wardrobe. He started out in 1992 and so far has witnessed the innumerable fashion changes, trends and much more. When he started out, there was nothing called as fashion industry, fashion shows, channels or even media as today. He has been designing for men, women, and has exclusive bridal and evening collections in addition to day-wear and ready-to-wear for over 20 years. He is a true couturier and custodian of craft. Tell us about your latest collection. My collection speaks for itself. You can notice it in every garment on display. Each of my collection is product of, months of research, hard work and expands to a year of display, so everyone can make the most out of it. My collection on display right now is AZRAK, which refers to - rare and common. The collection was inspired by West Asia and the Ottoman Empire of Turkey. The creation has elements of minimalism and grandeur, Western and Indian silhouettes, traditional motifs and modern drapes & feminine form. Fabrics like silk, georgette, velvet, dupion, jacquards have been vastly used for this collection which comprised of saris, suits, long jackets, gowns and anarkalis. How has fashion evolved in past 10 years? It has been evolutionary. When I started out there wasn’t such thing as a fashion market. There were no labels, there were very few of us designers, who started putting our names on clothes, and people would be like- ‘you actually have your name on your clothes?’ There wasn’t much of competition or benchmark. What inspires your work, designs and ideology? Royalty, my designs, the colors I use, the fabric, everything is inspired from royalty. And it’s not just limited to India, there are royal families all over Asia, Europe who take it to a whole new level. I like the colors, the period craftsmanship, the weaves, and the sense of history that it rubs off. I try to replicate that larger than life quality in my work. It’s like Indian art. Very rich, very original. We see fashion keeps coming back, be it colors, fabric, or designs and sometimes trends on the whole. Do you think it’s because of lack of innovation or new ideas? Fashion is a life cycle. What is in vogue today is bound to be back sooner or later. It’s a cycle

which describes fashion or trend that you will love today, hate tomorrow, forget it and then crave for it. It’s very important to revive what you have, the rich culture oriented designs, fabric and work. For example many in India associate embroidery only to wedding but there is a way of wearing it and treasuring it in a lot of different ways. And that is what I do in my designs, keep things alive and people love it. There is still demand of classic and vintage, people love it and it is something that will never go out.

“People these days have stopped being an individual, they see celebrities, fashion houses, actors, and get similar stuff. There is no personal style” What is the Essence of JJ Valaya? Royality, Regality and Revive. 5 tips for a bride this season? I would rather say 5 words for brides, for every season. Look Into mirror and “Do Not Lie To Yourself”. What made you come to Hyderabad? Actually I have done few celebrity weddings from Hyderabad, but usually they see me in Delhi or Mumbai. Shruthi (Malpani) is the one who actually convinced me to come to Hyderabad. How do you think is Hyderabad market? No doubt it is important, but it is still blooming, it’s still getting there. The buying power and the buying capacity of people need to increase.

Do you think people in India are open to experimenting new things? Well everyone like to taste forbidden once in a while, but people here are still not ready, when you see real people and not the ones from glamour or glitz, the real people out there are either wearing jeans or kurtis, and when it comes to celebration or functions they prefer Indian. So I don’t think they are there yet. And this is what helps me make my designs, my collection is truly wearable, I like people wearing my designs and not just for ramp. What aspect of feminity do you try and draw in your designs? Actually I believe there is a draw of masculinity in my designs, you see I do a lot of jackets. Fifty per cent of our sales come from men’s clothes. Yes, there is a huge market there as well. It is just that not too many designers have focused on it. How do you think is impact of Indian style and trend on global platform? I believe that if any one of us are to make an impact on the world of fashion, if we want to be noticed in Europe we must focus on designs and textures that are essentially Indian. No one will notice us if we start designing the kind of things that French and Italian designers are already well known for. Our designs must be essentially Indian if we want to be noticed. You paint too, since when has that been your passion? It was always there, it is like sanity. There are no trends and no media. It gives a sense of free will and something that soothes me. You can see reflection of my thoughts and design in them too. I breathe the rich culture of art and treasure the most I can in any form possible.

If we shine a light in faces they will be cause off guard! But if you make friends and mingle and shoot them from a distance, chances are they will open up to me! I don’t make the films, the people in them do, and every-single-time I point my camera to shoot, something magical just happens.” Says Vishal. Every couple is unique and every story has a different plot but because it’s baseline is love, the plot will be great! The couple, their friends and family are the inspiration for them. You know it’s a true hug! And sometimes it’s not just the families! We get random emails everyday from so many people from Angola to Alaska telling us how inspiring they find these films! TRAVEL

Holiday in the Himalayas

I have visited the Ananda Spa, it is very calm and quiet place and is an ideal place for the relaxation of mind. It’s a fabulous and amazing place to visit and a complete get away from the city’s noise and pollution. The place is so beautiful It felt like a whole new world and was one of my best and most relaxing trips ever. Manisha Goel, Jewelry Designer

As the summer approaches and the temperature is rising, get away to the Himalayas where you can respite from the searing heat and high temperatures. The Himalayas offer a variety of destinations, from adventurous treks to relaxing spas you can be spoilt for choice. Himalayas are the most beautiful and scenic destination to visit, the place where earth meets sky.

Dalhousie Dalhousie is a quiet hill station with little night life, best suited for people who want to destress, who like the quiet, serene atmosphere, ideal for long walks, picnics and treks. It is not recommended for people who want discos, malls and multiplexes. While there is plenty to do, see and experience, Dalhousie exudes an old-world charm and it seems like it hasn’t quite caught up with the rest of the world yet. Dalhousie is known for its great valleys and high mountain ranges. Places like Panchpula are known for trekking. There are waterfalls, places to trek, or to sit down, relax, and experience nature. When at Dalhousie you can go to tibetian market and have a look around just for fun, enjoy long walks and picnics, and also have a barbeque at night and star gaze, the sky is said to be exceptionally clear in the night at Dalhousie. Shimla Shimla is one place which is a classic example of mixed architectures, the never forgettable snow capped Himalaya’s view, the wide variety of temples and churches, the sanctuaries and the natural beauty, all in one place. The beautiful mall road, the vice regal lodge, the gaiety cultural health museum, the Arki Palace and Chadwick falls all these places are worth the visit. The mall road is the main shopping hub of the city and other attractions on the mall road include the Christ Church, the Ridge and the Scandal point. illustrates nature at its best. The lofty hills draped in the first glistening snow of winter, the rolling green valley dotted with colorful blooms and laced by sparkling rivers depict nature’s munificence. Kullu, popularly known as the Valley of the Gods is a picturesque valley sited in the western Himalayas. The hill station, perched at an altitude of 1,219 m above sea level basks prettily along the banks of the

Beas River. The green carpeted meadows where the sheep graze are the perfect place for tourists, intoxicated by nature’s bounty to picnic and relax indolently. Manali, is another idyllic hill resort that is situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The landscape is mainly dominated by snowcapped mountains and is also known as, the ‘Switzerland of India.’ The revered shrines at Hadimba and Manu and the venerable Tibetan monasteries as well as the quaint little clubhouse hugging the left bank of the Manalsu Nallah River are all popular tourist destinations.

Dharamsala Serenely spiritual Dharamsala is home to the largest Tibetan temple outside Tibet. It’s known for its religious iconography and is the monastery of the Dalai Lama, who holds public lectures a few times a year. Once you’ve restored your spiritual energy, enjoy a picturesque stroll to Bhagsu Waterfall or climb the hill to Triund to bask in stunning views of the Himalayas.

ADVENTURE If you are a true fan and always want to go for a truly adventure tour then Himalayas are just perfect for you. These mountain ranges are most favorite among adventure lovers throughout the world. Adventure in the Himalayas has a range of Dhula Dhar for Trekking, Beas Kund to a glacial lake in Himachal camping, Kinner Kailash circuit, where you can see the snow leopards endangered, for hiking and camping, base camp Everest, where a walk to the mighty Himalayan peak, but certainly not without experience. There are several opportunities for river rafting in the Himalayan region as rafting in Zanskar, one of the coldest inhabited places in India. These regions mostly remains cut off from rest of the world. Here tourists rafting through the gorge of the Indus River Zanskar. A Bond By Birth

“I’m blessed and I couldn’ t be more grateful. Do you want to know why? Because I’m a mother, but that’s only half of it. I’m blessed because, when I need to, I can still just be a daughter. I get the feeling that there is nothing more precious than to have both of these roles, simultaneously.” - Adrianna Stepiano

Such is role of a daughter, a mother, this issue we have a special bonding of Shreedevi Chouwdary and her mother, Mrs. Preeti. The bonding they share is just like any mother daughter, strong, sometimes complex, friendly and most important motivating to stay ahead in life. I am sure most of them will agree when I say she is a lady full of confidence and yet very rooted, that is if you have had a chance to get to know her or even had a few conversations. Caring, warm, articulate and sensitive, she is a person who stands strong supporting the people she loves no matter what. Her father Mr. Venkatrao was from west Godavari, he played Ranji and was vice president of board of cricket control of India, and Andhra cricket association secretary for 25 years. Her mom is from Nimmakuru zamindar family Krishna district. Though she was born in Nagpur, her parents are settled in

Vijayawada now. Shreedevi did her schooling & graduation in Bangalore, and moved to Australia for her Master in Business Administration. When in Australia she worked for common wealth bank of Australia for a while, but later decided to move back to India, and settle in Hyderabad.

‘My Mom has always been one of my biggest supporters and the wisdom she has given me over the years has helped shaped the person I am today.’ Over the time she has been influenced by many women, her mother being the foremost. “My mother is my world, she is an extraordinary woman, soft spoken, very traditional and gentle at heart. My relation with my mother is very strong & beautiful, when I was a kid she was very strict, but as I grew up we became more of good friends. I share everything with her, whether its good or bad, what I think about particular situation or person, my work, everything she helps me stay grounded and gives me strength to

overcome any hurdles that come my way. We go on holidays together and spend a lot of time together. She is such an important part that I can’t pass a day without calling her and discussing my day with her, it is a blessing to have someone who listens to you so patiently.” She is a single and proud mother of a 19 year old son Aakash. She totally adores her son and he means the world to her. When it comes to her social life, she has some really close friends who know her in and out and are always there for her.

You have a strong Spiritual side tooYes, my mom and I are very spiritual, it helps us gain positivity in life and lead a more purposeful life. The gurus who I believe and follow are ‘Sathya Sai Saba, whom my grandmother has been following since she was 23. And the other guru’s I believe in are ‘Chandraswami Ji’ and ‘sadguru jaggi vasudev’

Your Favorite memory with your mother My life itself is a memory with my mom. How do you bond with each other Mrs. Preeti- Shree can keep me occupied the whole day. We go for movies, shopping, call few relatives for dinner, and she loves to learn new dishes every time I visit her. Shreedevi- I like cooking but always call her to recheck the recipe and ingredients as she is an amazing cook. My mom can sit quiet for whole day, so I do all the talking. We share passion of travelling and cooking, and that is what bonds us really well. Mothers always keep teaching their children but what is one thing you have learnt from her, that reminds you in your day to day life. Patience and perseverance. What is one thing YOU learnt from your daughter, that has changed your perspective at life. When I fell sick last year, she took care of me like her daughter. She made sure I dressed well even if I was sick and told me "god will see that u love life and he will heal you faster. When I was sick for almost three months , my other daughter, Shree's best

I pray to god I die one day before her because I don’t know how I would be in a world without her. My son Aakash, Lakshmi Manchu, and my niece Sanjana. I like Lakshmi and Sanjana as they are junior versions but more beautiful than me. And last but not the least my other son prince (English mastiff).

LATEST GIZMOS

The New Is Here

Sony Xperia Z

Sony Xperia Z comes with a 13mp Sony cyber shot camera inbuilt and it has a 5 inch screen with the Sony Bravia technology that’s used in the Bravia LED television. Its an inbuilt 16GB which is more than enough for your apps and games and if not it has an expandable memory. Comes with a android 4.2 jelly bean which is a negative as android is going to come out with android 5 very soon. It’s thin, light and fits comfortably in your hand, despite the massive 5inch screen. It’s roughly the same thickness as an Apple iPhone 5 but has the added benefit of being waterproof – it will shrug off a dunk in your pint, and you can even take it into the shower. The phone will launch with Android 4.1, rather than the newer 4.2 Jelly Bean update seen on Google’s own Nexus 4 smartphone, but new owners shouldn’t have to wait very long for the latest version - Sony product manager Lego Svardsater confirmed 4.2 would be coming to the Xperia Z “shortly after launch” and that news would be announced on Sony’s official blog over the coming weeks. It will be a welcome update, adding features like lock screen widgets and an improved notification bar that’s integrated with the quick settings menu. Android 4.2 also includes a new camera app, with the new panoramic Photo Sphere mode, but we doubt it will make an appearance. Sony has put a lot of effort into its custom camera app, which already supports panoramic photos. Going by the looks and the price, this one looks to me a winner but don’t expect a good resale because it’s Sony!

Blackberry 10

HTC Butterfly

Finally a relief to the blackberry boys and girls, if all of you were really bored of the clichéd BBM and whatsapp on your blackberry and envied your friends for playing their favorite games or the super cool apps on their android and ios devices then Blackberry 10 is a major reason to rejoice. Lets look at the key features of the blackberry 10:

The HTC Butterfly is the most expensive android smartphone ever, well priced at a not so reasonable 49,900/- the HTC butterfly is by far the most expensive smartphone in the market today. Well spending so much on a HTC doesn’t make so much sense even while this one’s loaded with super special features.

• Blackberry Balance: A system that will now allow users to separate professional communications and applications from music, photographs and other personal items. • Notification bar: Yes!! You will now be able to view notifications from your Facebook, Twitter and other accounts even while you are on your mail or work. • BBM Video chat: Well yes you are reading it right. Now BBM users will rejoice as they will now be able to video chat (but with add on tariff). • Blackberry story maker: Blackberry users can now use their BBM chats, videos, photos and create a movie out of it. Just to create that little special memory. • Application: You can now download more than 70,000 apps on your blackberry device on the new ios. Will have to wait and see if they are worth it.

The design of the HTC Butterfly makes a great first impression. The phone is constructed largely from plastic, which strays away from many of HTC’s previous aluminum body designs. The Butterfly is a very solid feeling device and there’s no evidence that HTC opting for plastic has come at a cost of build quality. As a direct comparison, we prefer the fit and finish of the Butterfly over Samsung’s Galaxy Note II. Both are large devices, but the Butterfly is thinner (9mm) and lighter (140g). The HTC Butterfly runs the 4.1 Jelly Bean version of Google’s Android operating system. Like most of HTC’s smartphones it’s skinned with HTC’s Sense UI, an overlay over the top of the standard Android interface. Whether you like the interface or not will ultimately be a personal preference, but we feel the company often makes changes for changes sake. The default keyboard and the multitasking menu, for example, are two examples where Android’s default options are both better implemented and more effective than HTC Sense. Going by the reviews the HTC has a poor battery life too. Investing a hefty amount on this one does not tend to make any sense. Wait for the prices to go down, which I am sure wouldn’t take much time as HTC is famous for this.

The glamorous actress is “tremendously happy and very excited” to be expecting another baby with husband Javier Bardem. She revealed the happy news when revealing her decision to skip the Goya Awards later this month. Penelope was expected to travel to Spain on February 17 but it was explained that she wasn’t able to take a long haul flight. The superstar couple got married in 2010 and had their first son named Leo in January 2011.

‘Love Actually’ has beaten off competition from ‘The Notebook’ and ‘Wall-E,’ to be named as the most romantic film ever. ‘The Notebook’ came in second place while animated film ‘Wall-E’ was placed third. In fourth place came ‘Notting Hill,’ while in fifth place was ‘Dirty Dancing,’ followed by ‘Ghost,’ ‘Pretty Woman’ and ‘Titanic.’ In at number nine was sporting drama ‘Jerry Maguire,’ and despite being widely regarded as one of the most romantic films ever made, ‘Casablanca’ made it to only tenth place.

ANOUSHKA Accepts Grammy for her father The 31-year-old, who is also a sitar player and composer, received the best world music album Grammy for her father. Ravi Shankar - who was also to be given a posthumous lifetime achievement Grammy at the show - won for “The Living Room Sessions Part 1,” while his daughter was nominated for “Traveller” in the same category. “It’s OK to lose to your father,” she said. In her acceptance speech on his behalf, she noted that it’s two months exactly since his death. Ravi Shankar died in December at the age of 92, after failing to recover from surgery at a hospital in La Jolla, California, near San Diego. His family was at his bedside. The Indian icon was among seven artists, including Carole King and the Temptations, named as Lifetime Achievement Award honorees ahead of Grammys show. Pandit Ravi Shankar was and is responsible for popularizing Indian classical music across Europe and the United States. The three-time Grammy award winner was suffering from upper respiratory and heart issues when he passed away. He was coined as “the godfather of world music” by Beatles frontman George Harrison. Shankar amazed and confused western audiences with his music and instrument, the sitar. He has collaborated with various western artists and is now a household name for Indian music in the West. He has received several prestigious awards as a musician and has held top positions in the music industry for several years. It was just the night before his surgery, he was nominated for the 2013 Grammy Awards for his latest album “The Living Room Sessions, Part 1.”

SONAM TO PLAY Lawyer in YRF film

TULIP

ENTERTAINMENT

Sonam Kapoor seems to be seriously busy this year, with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag opposite Farhan Akhtar, and Ranjhanaa alongside Dhanush. However, the icing on the cake is her upcoming project with Yash Raj Films. The yet untitled film which features her alongside Ayushmann Khuranna and is directed by Nupur Asthana (of Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge fame) seems to be drawing the audience attention. Interestingly in the film, Sonam will be seen playing a lawyer, “Sonam is very excited about the role. Like all her films, she will undergo training for this one too. And she is looking forward to it because she wants to play the role to complete perfection. She wants to be well prepared before she faces the camera for this film, which is why she will be devoting time to specially prepare for her part well in advance,” says a source close to the actor. While to understand lawyers, their body language and general demeanor better, the makers are scheduling meetings where Sonam will meet young professionals. “She will be chatting with them, taking tips and asking them questions and in general, observing them for a few days before the film goes on the floors,” added the source.

In a daily soap

I don’t want to be accessory in films

B O L L Y W O O D

NOW AMITABH BACHCHAN Bollywood’s megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who made his television debut with an iconic game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’, which was a huge hit and also one of the turning points in Amitabh Bachchan’s career, is now, as per the reports, all set to feature in a daily soap. After wrapping up sixth season of Kaun Banega Corepati, Amitabh Bachchan is once again ready to embrace the small screen, but this time in a different avatar which is set to go on air later this year. The project is being co-produced by his banner ABCL. However, the details of the show are kept under wraps. The buzz is that the audition for the show is started in full swing at several studios in Andheri. The show is expected to be made on a huge budget and scale. It is going to be one of the most expensive shows on television. Though Amitabh Bachchan will be the face of the daily soap, he will not appear in all the episodes. The 70-year-old actor is planning a detail promotion for the show. We also hear that the legendary actor has not signed any of the films this year so that the actor can give his cent percent to the daily soap.

Be it a ‘chick flick’ like “Aisha” or a ‘bromance’ like “Kai Po Che!”, actress Amrita Puri doesn’t mind being a supporting actor, but says she is careful about staying away from movies in which she just gets to be an “accessory”. “Bollywood continues to be a male-dominated, a hero-centric industry. That is the reason why I have been picky about my roles and prefer to keep gaps in between each film that I do. I don’t want to be just an accessory in films, so I must have an integral and meaty role in whatever I get,” Amrita said in an interview. And ‘Kai Po Che’ wasn’t hard for her in spite of three male lead because Abhishek Kapoor the director of the movie was on top of her list of the directors, she wanted to work with. She played a small town girl in her debut film “Aisha”, and was then seen as a housewife in “Blood Money”. In “Kai Po Che!”, the big screen adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s bestseller “The 3 Mistakes Of My Life”, she plays sister to Bollywood debutant Sushant Singh Rajput and the love interest of the character essayed by Rajkumar Yadav. As an actor, Amrita admits it is very comforting that “supporting roles” have a renewed importance in the Hindi film industry. She herself doesn’t come from a film family, but has a background in theatre. In her free time, she loves to be busy, she specifically likes to be on her toes travelling here and there. “I love travelling! I’ve recently been to Kerala and Goa, and I also love watching movies, reading and I have taken a liking to painting lately,” she said. MARCH, 2013 63

KAMAL HASSAN’S THANKS GIVING

To Tollywood for its support Lokanayakudu Kamal Hassan in a press meet at Hyderabad thanked big wigs from Telugu Film Industry who supported him throughout the recent crisis over Vishwaroopam. He said during the entire turn of events he was only hurt and pained and not angered. Top Tollywood personalities like Dasari Narayana Rao, K Vishwanath, Ramanaidu, K Raghavendra Rao, Ramesh Prasad, S S Rajamouli, Trivikram Srinivas, Nagarjuna, Prabhas spoke about Kamal Hassan which moved the iconic actor to tears. Recollecting Tollywood support, Dasari Narayana Rao’s words, at the time he expressed his anxiety of Vishwaroopam being banned in Andhra Pradesh, gave him lot of peace of mind. Dasari Narayana Rao criticized the censor board for being spineless and the government for the injustice done to Kamal Hassan when the film was originally slated for release on January 25. S S Rajamouli confessed that he was completely moved to tears when Kamal Haasan said that he might go away from Tamil Nadu. In turn, Kamal Haasan thanked everyone from Telugu film industry who came out in support for him and Nagarjuna in particular who gave a statement to a national TV channel in support of his film. He said, “Losing my house or property doesn’t matter anymore since I have a larger number of well wishers now, particularly in Andhra Pradesh. I also thank the media for supporting me so much. I am an actor and director, but not a rioter. I believe that an artist shouldn’t be insulted.” He said so many came to express solidarity and this is more heartening than finding a place.

RAJAMOULI’S BAHUBALI To be the most expensive Tollywood film ever Rajamouli believes in making larger than life subjects and to bring them into reality, huge budget is inevitable. Tollywood’s most successful director’s next outing Bahubali starring Prabhas, Rana and Anushka in the lead roles with M M Keeravani’s music is the most expensive film ever made on Telugu screen. After completing the pre-production work, Rajamouli estimated the cost of this period drama to be around Rs 100 crore. He discussed the production cost with producers K Raghavendra Rao and RK Media (Shobu), and they immediately approved having confidence on the director’s capability. A Rs 100 crore budget for a Telugu film is surely a big gamble as no Telugu film so far has crossed Rs 100 Crore revenue from theatre collections. But the director, having his own calculations, is confident that he could recover the money with this period drama. While his magnum opus Magadheera grossed around Rs 100 crore despite not having a theatrical release for Hindi version, Eega collected over Rs 60 crore though not having a big star in the lead role, he is sure to collect the money from this movie too. The film being made simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages is about to commence its regular shoot shortly.

WRESTLING DROPPED

PRAVEEN KUMAR BANNED

From 2020 Olympics

From Ranji ODIs

The International Olympic Committee leaders have dropped wrestling for the 2020 Games in a surprise decision to scrap one of the oldest sports on the Olympic program. The IOC executive board decided to retain modern pentathlon, the event considered most at risk, and remove wrestling instead from its list of core sports. The IOC board acted after reviewing the 26 sports on the current Olympic program. Eliminating one sport allows the International Olympic Committee to add a new sport to the program later this year. Wrestling, which combines freestyle and Greco-Roman events, goes back to the inaugural modern Olympics in Athens in 1896. Wrestling featured 344 athletes competing in 11 medal events in freestyle and seven in Greco-Roman at last year’s London Olympics. Wrestling will now join seven other sports in applying for inclusion in 2020. The others are a combined bid from baseball and softball, karate, squash, roller sports, sport climbing, wakeboarding and wushu. They will be vying for a single opening in 2020. The IOC executive board will meet in May in St. Petersburg, Russia, to decide which sport or sports to propose for 2020 inclusion. The final vote will be made at the IOC general assembly in September in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The last sports removed from the Olympics were baseball and softball, voted out by the IOC in 2005 and off the program since the 2008 Beijing Games. Golf and rugby will be joining the program at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. The sport’s governing body, the UIPM, has been lobbying hard to protect its Olympic status, and the efforts apparently paid off. UIPM President Klaus Schormann had considered traveling from Germany to Lausanne for the decision, but decided to stay away.

Pacer Praveen Kumar has been suspended from participating in the upcoming inter-state Vijay Hazare Trophy matches after being issued a show cause notice by the BCCI following his unruly behavior in a Corporate Trophy game recently. Praveen, who was named in Uttar Pradesh’s 15-member squad for the Vijay Hazare trophy, has now been left out of the squad. The bowler was issued a letter by the BCCI asking him to explain his stand on the incident at the Board’s Corporate Trophy held in Raipur, where he was playing for ONGC. Praveen had bowled a short-pitched delivery at Ajitesh Argal of Income Tax and when the batsman checked with the umpire whether it was a no ball, the former started abusing him. Praveen continued to express his displeasure with the on-field umpires, Kamlesh Sharma and Ajit Datar, who then reported the incident to match referee Dhananjay Singh. The match referee described Praveen as ‘mentally unfit’ as he lost his composure at the least provocation, and reported the incident to the BCCI. Previously before this trophy game also, Praveen had a showdown with the crowd and the local cricket authorities had to provide tighter security at the ground.

RANCHI RHINOS EMERGE AS WINNERS In the inaugural Hockey India League Ranchi Rhinos came from a goal down to beat Delhi Wave riders 2-1 and win the inaugural Hockey India League. The Rhinos were trailing for most part of the match after Simon Child gave Delhi the lead in the 25th minute. But the Ranchi outfit never gave up and displayed tremendous fighting spirit to score through Austin Smith (55th) before Manpreet Singh (63rd) scored a late winner for the home team. Uttar Pradesh Wizards rode on captain V R Raghunath’s four goals, including a hat-trick, to finish third, defeating Jaypee Punjab Warriors 4-3 in the bronze medal play-off match. As expected, the title clash, a match between the two best outfits of the tournament, displayed scintillating hockey by both Delhi and Ranchi, which was fast and free-flowing. The Rhinos made continuous inroads into the rival citadel in search of the equalizer and their consistent pressure finally paid off in the 55th minute. After managing to equalize, the Rhinos went for the killer blow which rocked the Delhi defense. After holding on to most part of the game, the Wave riders’ backline started to buckle under Ranchi’s consistent pressure and in the process made a mistake which cost them the title. Ranchi earned another penalty corner in the 63rd minute and Manpreet scored from a rebound after Ashley Jackson’s initial flick was saved. With time running out, Delhi pressed hard for an all-important equalizer but it was not to be as the Rhinos’ defenses were up to the task. It was a double celebration for the Rhinos as they not only won the inaugural HIL title but also bagged the Fair Play Trophy. Ranchi’s young forward Mandeep Singh also won the most promising player of the tournament. Despite the defeat there was something to cheer about for the Wave riders as its skipper Sardar Singh was adjudged player of the tournament. Besides the trophy, champions Ranchi Rhinos pocketed Rs 2.5 crores, while runners-up Delhi Wave riders took home Rs 1.25 crore. Third-placed Uttar Pradesh Wizards got richer by 75 lakhs. ABCD- ANY BODY CAN DANCE ABCD- Any Body Can Dance, directed by Remo D’Souza is one of the biggest surprises. It is not just about basics of dancing, but about living your passion and living for passion. The film with unique plot and awesome dance movements is the first dance film of India in 3D. Set against the backdrop of dance competition, ABCD leaves you with a feeling of achievement and gives you a feel-good factor. It’s a film that every Indian can relate to and above all, Prabhu Deva and Ganesh Acharya’s dance is a treat to watch. Though the plot is weak, the last dance finale will make you sit on the edge of the seat and this would be like the same feeling you get while watching a one-day cricket match between India and Pakistan. The plot revolves around Vishnu (Prabhu Deva) extremely passionate about dance along with his partner Jehangir (Kay Kay Menon) sets up a dance academy. Vishnu is lowered down in profile by Jehangir so he quits the dance academy and decides to leave Mumbai to go to his hometown. That’s when he spots a group of talented dancers who are preparing for a dance competition. He decides to take them under his wing and train them to be outstanding dancers. Prabhu Deva is extremely good in doing what he knows the best, and that is dancing while all the other actors have given a decent performance. SPECIAL26 After delivering the path-breaking ‘A Wednesday’ in 2008, director Neeraj Pandey is back with ‘Special 26’, a movie based on notorious truelife incidents, for which he deserves a huge round of applause. ‘Special 26’ shows a group of four dare-devil con artistes who are out to make a quick buck. To achieve their objective, they take the guise of CBI officers and conduct raids on the filthy rich, spread across the key cities of the country. When mischief mongers are around, we have Wasim Khan (Manoj Bajpai), a real and unbeatable CBI officer who masterminds a supposedly bigger trap to nab them red handed. At times moving away from the main course of the movie, the director shows the romance between Ajay (Akshay Kumar), the mastermind of the group, and Priya (Kajal Aggarwal), a teacher in his locality. The movie ending with the scope and promise for a possible sequel has Akshay Kumar in a totally new avatar with impressive screen presence. This is one film that you won’t regret watching, if you truly liked ‘A Wednesday’.

Know Your Fortune

FORTUNE

PISCES

- Tarot reading by Nupur Heda

(February 19 - March 20)

You tend to be a loner or have a secret hiding place in case you need it. You find the energies of others distracting right now. You should not follow the crowd just to fit in. Take time to think your own thoughts. Only clarity and a willingness to change is effective now. Remain modest, regardless of how great your merit. Be in the world but not of it. Do not be closed, narrow minded or judgmental, be receptive to impulses flowing from the divine. This is a time of growth and rectification. Do not be careless, know thyself and nothing in excess. My Angel Says: You are emotional, very considerate of others, and very understanding. Be when you are, friends will come along your way soon. A Note from the Reader: When you think about the month of March, what comes to mind? Do you think of rain, flowers blooming, fresh air, butterflies, and four leaf clovers? Did you know that March actually used to be the first month of the year on the Roman calendar, hence starting over a fresh new start. It’s a saying;“Until you make peace with who you are, you’ll never be content with what you have.”

ARIES

(March 21 - April 19) You seek close circle of friends to help you feel at home. You will know immediately when you have done the right thing, you can feel the thoughts of others. The intuitive part of your nature is urged toward harmony and adjusting the sphere of personal relationships, the need to share and the search after similarities. You now have the strength to achieve completion and resolution. Completing projects is your first priority. Free yourself from ruts, habits, or relationships that hinder your birth to a new life. Movement involves danger and uncertainty, stay grounded. My Angel Says: You must not push your own skills aside just to help others. Try to remain focused on your talents and skills.

TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)

You are not tame, nor are you wild. You are bored because you seek knowledge and excitement. Your thoughts are very complex and you need a very stimulating environment. You can be a little like the nutty professor, but when all your thoughts come together it can wow the world. Do not be shy about sharing your ideas, even if you do like to work alone. You want to be happy and carefree in every situation possible but it does not always works out as planned. My Angel Says: You are often misunderstood, and the victim of gossip. You can be jealous and very possessive. So focus on these areas to avoid more challenges in life. 78 FEBRUARY, 2013

GEMINI

VIRGO

SAGITTARIUS

Never be afraid of your powers and authority, no matter how others criticize you. You may appear gentle and kind, but you will not buckle under forces that try to harm you or your family. You must work on your emotional attachment to people and material things, try to care a little more often and not only when there is a threat. Do not rebel against the established laws and practices. Work to change them. You are a born fighter, try to use your stints more often.

Whether you realize it or not you have an effect on the way other people see things. You can be an innovator. You hold fixed ideas about yourself and when life gets boring you want to move on. You have many clever and unique ideas but you lack focus. Do not shun intimacy for fear of rejection, if you share your feeling you will emerge stronger and more dynamic. Kick up your heels, let your heart rule for a while.

You are forever expanding your world by following your curiosity. You have gained a great deal of knowledge, and are willing to share this with others. When you get involved in a project you can lose yourself in it, but at the price of your family and friends. Do not be closed, narrow minded or judgmental, be receptive to impulses flowing from the divine. This is a time of growth and rectification. Do not be careless.

My Angel Says: You are careful, precise, and you take obligations and responsibility seriously. Loosen up a little. Try being friends with people around you.

My Angel Says: You have ultimate potential in teaching, and know about self-sacrifice, you are very animate about your beliefs in highly desirable or perfect qualities.

(May 21 - June 20)

My Angel Says: You are indecisive and sometimes selfish, but you have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. Make full use of it when given a chance.

CANCER

(August 23 - September 22)

LIBRA

(November 22 - December 21)

CAPRICORN

(September 23 - October 22)

(December 22 - January 19)

You have deep understanding of the human condition, but you are reluctant to stand up for what you belief to be right at times. You might tend to shy away from anger and aggression because you are sensitive to emotions and your past experiences have not been really fair to you. You must learn to live in the present, for you always feel you were born in the wrong time era. Dreaming will not shelter you from the harsh realities of today’s world.

You are a strong and energetic person with a very clear sense of direction in life. Do not be intimidated by any arguments, you are on top with your quick wit. You are sensual and artistic, you love excitement, and indulgences of any kind, you can have a problem with your addictive personality. You are no stranger to hard work and luck has nothing to offer you that are realistic. Anything worth having must come through hard work, anything less is belittling.

My Angel Says: You are erratic and unstable, but this makes you appear mysterious and outspoken. Try understanding people rather than analyzing them.

My Angel Says: You love things solid, grounded, practical, and you are a conscientious hard worker. But remember you are not the only one. Respect people and you will get respect in return.

My Angel Says: Your deepest fears will surface, you must be willing to exercise control over what is not yet in form. It is an act of courage and an empty-handed leap of faith. The total sum of all your actions and their consequences must be paid.

LEO

SCORPIO

You must learn to cooperate with others, you cannot develop and grow spiritually if you do not interact with others. You have some great ideas, and you will never know how others feel about them if you do not share them and accept the feedback with an open mind. To gain the respect and admiration that you feel you deserve and desire will only come with a cooperative spirit. Try to keep up a fresh smile on your face more often, this may not only lighten your mood but also people’s approach towards you.

You may be denying the world’s greatest gifts with chronic procrastination. To avoid burnout you must learn to finish projects and stay focused on the ‘here and now’. You do not feel good about yourself, if you are first to confirm, you only know how to do things your way. If you cannot fit in then you must stand out, and make a difference, all others will have to follow. Leading does not always mean you are a leader, sometimes belief is more important to achieve a motive.

(June 21 - July 22)

You may pride yourself for being an individual, but you must also learn to work with the group. Learn to organize your thoughts and pool your energies. You have powerful influence over others, you just need to gain the wisdom to guide them. You truly inspire others when you are working for the betterment of the whole. If you are restless then go ahead change things up, be radical. Don’t push yourself too hard to achieve success in every sphere.

(July 23 - August 22)

My Angel Says: You can attract money easily and you can lose it easily. You love the challenge of making it. You are and can be very direct and outspoken, so never miss an opportunity.

(October 23 - November 21)

My Angel Says: You are broad-minded, idealistic, compassionate and highly creative. Try using your skills and achievements to gain success.
